Sony Masterworks Broadway lanza la grabación de estudio del elenco de WITNESS UGANDA (AN AMERICAN MUSICAL), un álbum con la música del impactante musical ideado por el dúo creativo de Matt Gould y Griffin Matthews. Ya disponible.

El álbum, ya está disponible, contiene 24 canciones del espectáculo, interpretadas por Matthews y un elenco repleto de estrellas, entre las que se encuentran la superestrella Cynthia Erivo, la artista Ledisi, ganadora de un GRAMMY, y las estrellas del teatro y la pantalla Nicolette Robinson, Emma Hunton y Kristolyn Lloyd, entre otras.

Con guión y una banda sonora de Griffin Matthews y Matt Gould e inspirada en hechos reales, Witness Uganda documenta el viaje de Griffin en una misión de voluntariado en Uganda, durante la cual crea un vínculo improbable con un grupo de estudiantes adolescentes. Cuando el hogar no se siente como tal, y hay que forjar cualquier conexión familiar, Griffin y los estudiantes descubren la comunidad donde menos lo esperan.

El álbum se presentó inicialmente con el tema principal, "Bricks", un número grupal de gran energía y con un estribillo rotundo y ritmos africanos propulsivos; mira el vídeo visualizer aquí. Lanzado junto con un conmovedor vídeo musical, el siguiente sencillo, "Fall", se presenta como un dueto entre Griffin Matthews y Emma Hunton, que ambos comparten sus profundas historias personales en cuanto a la raza y la imagen corporal, y las dolorosas cicatrices que inevitablemente se han desarrollado en el camino. Ambos temas muestran la amplitud del álbum de 24 pistas, que también incluye la balada de gran carga emocional "Be The Light". La cantante de R&B Ledisi, ganadora de un premio GRAMMY, actúa junto a Matthews y Hunton para crear fuegos artificiales vocales que son a la vez vulnerables y ferozmente resistentes. En definitiva, el álbum refleja la narración de historias en el corazón del musical descaradamente político: divertido a veces y dolorosamente crudo en otras, Witness Uganda (An American Musical) une al público y rompe barreras. 

 La grabación del elenco de estudio de Witness Uganda (An American Musical) fue producida por el ganador del premio GRAMMY® Stephen Bray (Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Hudson, Respect Movie), que se hizo fan del espectáculo durante uno de sus primeros talleres. Grabado a lo largo de seis semanas en Los Ángeles y Nueva York, el álbum también fue producido por Remy Kurs, Cian McCarthy, Michael Verdick, Matt Gould, Griffin Matthews y Oliver Roth y contó con la producción ejecutiva de OHenry Productions, Jana Shea, Jonathan Demar, Margie & Ed Pikaart y Van Dean y Deena Zucker para Broadway Records. David Manella, Terri Nolan, Devon Spencer y Tiffany Dunn de Loeb & Loeb LLP actúan como asesores de producción.

Estrenada originalmente en el American Repertory Theater de la Universidad de Harvard en 2014, Witness Uganda fue creada por y para artistas queer. Después de una temporada off-Broadway en Second Stage en 2015 bajo el nombre de Invisible Thread, el musical fue reimaginado para su estreno en la Costa Oeste en The Wallis en 2019, donde fue ampliamente aclamado por la crítica, y del que Associated Press dijo que es "un musical vibrante y palpitante", y TimeOut NY que "el espectáculo lanza ondas de fe, esperanza y amor". Desde su creación, Witness Uganda ha recibido otros reconocimientos de la prensa, como The Los Angeles Times, The Light New York Times, The Boston Globe, CBS y Huffington Post, entre otros. 

El álbum marca un momento de cierre de círculo para el matrimonio de cocreadores, que realizaron por separado estancias de larga duración en distintos países de África. Durante su primer viaje a Uganda como parte de un viaje de ayuda, Matthews se inspiró para lanzar UgandaProject, que ofrece oportunidades educativas para estudiantes ugandeses. Hasta la fecha, el musical ha recaudado cientos de miles de dólares para apoyar a UgandaProject. Matthews ha actuado en el teatro, el cine y la televisión con créditos como The Flight Attendant, Dear White People, Ballers, Law & Order: SVU, entre otras.
