more thoughts about sunday/welt:

if they're sleeping in the same room and welt gets used to waking sunday up from nightmares and helping him calm down after, they'd quickly lose the proper sense of distance for two dudes platonically sharing a room.

one day, a few weeks into traveling on the astral express, sunday comes across welt reading a book in the lounge and sits down beside him. he stares off into space (literally) and gets too deep inside his own head and welt can tell he's brooding--and welt doesn't look up from his book but he reaches up and ruffles sunday's hair and tells him not to think so hard. and because this isn't so new or startling, sunday goes with it and lets himself lean over and put his head on welt's shoulder and just zone out for a bit, and welt doesn't pay him any mind besides shifting a little so they're both more comfortable, and it's nice.

and then march and dan heng walk in.

sunday's eyes snap open and he sits up straight but it's too late. they've seen... whatever it is they're looking at. they're not sure, but it's making them deeply uncomfortable. sunday stares at them. they stare at sunday. march opens her mouth. dan hang slaps his hand over it. sunday gets up and walks very quickly in the other direction.

welt, having missed this entire exchange, only looks up when sunday moves. he's confused as to why sunday is leaving so quickly but sometimes young men need their space; and then he notices march and dan heng.

"oh, you two," he says, and then notices dan heng's hand over march's mouth.

dan heng says, with measured calm, "we're sorry to have disturbed you. we'll be leaving now." march tries to protest but it's muffled by dan heng's hand, and then he literally drags her out of the room.

welt spares this oddity another moment of thought, then goes back to his book. sunday spends the next week unable to look directly at dan heng or march.

Dan Feng:

If Dan Feng ever got the chance to somehow walk among the living again, visiting his successor would be one of the first things he'd do. It was only natural that he'd want to see how her studies were progressing, when she would be ready to formally take on the title, if she was shaping up to be a good leader, and... how his friend was doing.

Despite the fact that, in truth, very few parts of what could even be referred to as her "former self" remained. Still, the precious little that was still there was more than enough. He would never regret her existence. He'd wonder if she would agree, as it was likely no one had thought it worth it to teach her of the love that had gone into her creation, only the tragedy.

Shifting away from sentimentality, he would think her behavior and conduct needed work. A normal child was free to play carelessly, but a high elder should already be outgrowing such rebeliouness, especially since she was already at a disadvantage. Though, if her escapes really were the last traces of a life spent chasing the stars, he wouldn't be able to bring himself to dull them. Blind obedience to their demands was the last thing the manipulative preceptors deserved, anyway. He would be glad that she at least was loved by the public for it. It seemed the millennia of Imbibitor Lunae being a godly figure, untouchable and unfeeling from high up above, would end with her. A part of him would have to admit he'd like that.

Dan Heng:

When Dan Heng had first made the choice to meet with Bailu, he hadn't known what to expect. The new Imbibitor Lunae created from his past life's sin, though no fault of her own, bearing only half of the power she should. After getting to know her better and learning of her circumstances, he felt saddened by all she had to go through, being despised by the people meant to raise her, and even dealing with assassination attempts. And he knew very well what it was like being viewed as only an unfortunate remnant of another's legacy, not an individual.

He wished to do something to ease her burdens, aware that a child never deserves to be caged and treated in this way. Although nothing could be done to save her yet, he could at least give her a break by spending time with her, or buying her food, or whatever she asked for, yet was told she wasn't allowed to have. As a person, he appreciated her intelligence, and strong will despite all the challenges, and sort of felt charmed by her bright personality. Though, that same excitableness sometimes made him feel out of his element, as he didn't have much experience with kids, yet he wished to be kind to her.

Sometimes, he still thought about her, images of her situation and the hands they were both dealt in life accompanied by a genuine wish for her to be alright, and to someday find her own freedom.

Once again thinking about Nahida and Dan Hengs similarities.

Just, the fact that people will say they are their just straight up their predecessors when that's not really true gets me sometimes, especially with Dan Heng.

LIke, for Nahida, she and Rukkha are different people, even if Nahida is basically a part of Rukkhadevata. Nahida hasn't led the same life, and she couldn't have cured Irminsul if they weren't

And for Dan Heng and Dan Feng, they've led completely different lives. Dan Feng didn't grow up in a prison with pretty much everyone hating him for just existing. Dan Heng didn't spend time with the High Cloud Quintet like Dan Feng.

The relationship between Dan Heng, Nahida, and their predecessors is honestly, to me, most similar to one of a parent and child, albeit a bit more closely tied together.

i'm glad you liked my dan heng piece but im sad to say that i don't really take requests for hsr characters yet </3 (emphasize on yet!)

my requests are currently closed as well until further notice since i have to focus on some personal matters with regards to school and such,, + i still have around 4 in my inbox rn so like to prevent more stress i closed requests so i could still relax in some way :')

"At least let me clean and seal your wounds first before you get proper medical attention," it's brusque, and given more as a presumptive statement than a question.

💭 + being High Elder for Dan Feng!

𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓭𝓬𝓪𝓷𝓸𝓷𝓼 — send 💭 + a topic to receive a headcanon about said topic.

It's not an easy job being the top person in charge for the entire Vidyadhara race. Having so many responsibilities on his shoulders even from such a young age, being on such a pedestal amongst his people from that young age as well that there was no such thing as a normal childhood for Dan Feng.

It's not a position that he would wish on anyone knowing how much is involved with the title of High Elder, but he also would never just give the position away to someone else even if he had the choice to abdicate. With an entire races future in his hands, Dan Feng knew how much trouble could be caused for the Vidyadhara race as a whole if the power fell into the hands of somone who did not take it seriously or did not have his peoples best interest at heart.

Dan Feng had mixed feelings about what he wasn't able to have growing up: being able to simply play with other Vidyadhara children when he was little, getting to do silly things for hours and just be outside and have fun. Having hours and hours of studying and learning to do every single day very early on got to the point where even if he did have friends his own age, the responsibilities each day were far too numerous and the preceptors likely wouldn't have let Dan Feng have that time to himself anyway.

But as an adult it was difficult for him to be upset and feel longing for something he never got experience, so in that way he doesn't have an emotional connection to what he missed out on.

It wasn't really until Yingxing came into the picture and Dan Feng had a relationship that existed purely for him as a person and for no other reason, that the occasional wistful thought of a world where he perhaps didn't have all the responsibilities that he did so time could be spent more with the man he came to love, especially given how Yingxing's life would be significantly shorter than his own.

So between that and the High Cloud Quintet, Dan Feng had friendships that were his own and not entirely to do with his position as High Elder and they came to have an importance in his heart almost as great as the responsibility he still shouldered to be a leader for his people. But at the end of the day, he knew that he could never shirk his responsibility because if he wasn't in that role doing his job, Dan Feng did not know of anyone else he could trust to do it.
