ELIJAH MIKAELSON: The Patriarch of the Mikaelson family
K: Please don’t lecture me, Elijah. You have no idea the agony of being a father; loving someone so much you cannot bear to see them in pain. E: I think I might have some idea.

Where's Kamski?
So, I know a lot of fic writers like to write Kamski's house like it's way out in the middle of nowhere, but it's factually not. In fact, he's sitting right in Belle Isle practically at the foot of CyberLife Tower.
For your convenience, I've located it on Google Maps. Note: I would not do this if it lead you to an actual real person's home, but Belle Isle is a state park open to the public, so you, too, can go stand there should you ever find yourself in actual real-life Detroit. So, starting with our reference point, the view outside Kamski's home when Hank & Connor visit:
Tumblr media
(Originally I didn't have Connor labeled but I didn't want him to feel excluded.)
So there are some landmarks visible despite the thick gloomy fog: specifically, the really close stuff. Note the river is to the right, and CyberLife Tower sits on the left with the causeway leading up to it indicating Kamski is on the same piece of land. So that puts him on Belle Isle. More importantly, look at the scale of the causeway: it's really close to the house.
And here's CyberLife tower:
Tumblr media
As you can see, the same causeway is visible, the tower sits nearby, there's a pond with a fountain and statue in front of it and the river that separates the island from Detroit proper. So then I took it to Google Maps. Here's a street view of the closest current building to where Kamski is:
Tumblr media
See he's just across the river from Detroit proper.
On the map, you can see the causeway, the place where the tower and fountain would be, and, from the street view, exactly the same view as where Kamski lives.
So, canonically this is where he is. The likely reason Hank had to make calls to get a meeting with Kamski is because CyberLife posts security on the causeway and doesn't just let anybody through. Bonus Headcanon: Kamski waved metric craptons of money at the State of Michigan to get the rights to build on a state park, then left CyberLife the deed to the very tip of the island and kept the rest for hi own personal playground. When they gave him the boot, he obviously just parked himself there out of spite and refused to leave.

I’ve already written about the Kamski Test in another post, but this is one of those subjects where different parts of it jump out more as you go, so here’s more.
Today’s rambling: Kamski and Hank have no idea what they’re doing but they act like they do, and they don’t stop to consider that they don’t.
Does anyone remember the part at the Eden Club where Connor has no easy way to test for deviancy on the spot? How there’s no flag that anyone can bring up on a debugger and go ‘Aha, a deviant!’, there’s no concrete answer. Despite this, Hank and Kamski both act like this Kamski Test is miraculously capable of doing that, even though the test basically says ‘Quick, Connor, let’s blackmail you into shooting this girl and then form opinions about your worth as a person over it!’
Anyway, they buy into it. If Connor doesn’t shoot, then Kamski is thrilled, and he waves the words empathy and deviancy around with relish. Hank hurries Connor out protectively in front of him, and when they talk outside his tone is notably speculative and pleased.
If Connor shoots, Kamski’s tone switches hard from enthralled to disappointed, and he declares Connor to have shown no empathy. Hank, meanwhile, is furious. Chloe showed no emotions except pretty smiling and Connor visibly struggles during the test, but Hank’s focus is entirely on reeling over Chloe’s death and accusing Connor of being a machine.
Hank actually holds on to this test even on into the next Chapter, where he can bring it up after they talk with Fowler. Hank will follow the steps of the Kamski test, looking at Connor’s actions, and evaluating them for their empathy.
(If Connor didn’t shoot Chloe) Hank: When you refused to kill that android at Kamski's place... You put yourself in her shoes. You showed empathy, Connor.
(If Connor saved Hank from falling) Hank: When I was hanging off the roof, back at the urban farm, you let that deviant go in order to help me. You put my life above the mission. You showed empathy, Connor.
(If Connor protected Hank from shooting) Hank: Back at Stratford Tower, when that android was shooting at anything that moved... You protected me... You... Risked your life to save mine. That showed empathy, Connor.
Tumblr media
No one stops to question whether or not Connor wants to participate. Kamski came up with a test, they accept between themselves that it’s valid, and that’s the end of it. While Hank does tell Connor not to complete the test when it gets to the part that involves shooting the Nice Girl, Connor had already been showing stress and trying to divert things before this point, and Hank doesn’t actually intervene on either android’s behalf.
TL;DR: the humans in the room decide to give their android a half-assed five minute test for sentience, and then both completely buy into their own speculation.

How I look camping ⛺️ your page everyday waiting for you to post… like your writing is so good and I’m so obsessed with it. 💜 But about Kol and I guess the other Mikaelson boys (minus Finn),, they’re all scary in their own ways.
With Klaus he’s scary because of his rage and his plans,, you can immediately tell when he’s angry because he makes it known through his throwing things and shouting.
For Elijah, he’s calm and collected and that’s what makes him scary, you don’t know how he’s truly feeling or going to react because he hides it so well. I don’t remember the exact scene but it was in the originals I believe where you could like see the rage on his rage and that too is scary because he’s so angry in that moment that he isn’t even attempting to hide that rage.
For Kol (my love), he’s a wild card, a loose cannon. He can be violent but he can also be gentle as seen with his relationship with Davina. I just think his personality is so fun and intriguing. There is absolutely no reason for a vampire, an original at that to be using a baseball to beat people but he does just because he can?? does this make me crazy?? maybe a bit?
a common misconception i see a lot is when Kol is undaggered and Klaus backs away from him. this is for two reasons… yes, i believe Klaus was nervous of Kol being awake again because he knows his brother is a loose cannon but also because it meant that the others were likely awake as well and perhaps he could fight one of them but he definitely couldn’t find all of them at once.
no matter though because both Kol and Klaus can admit that Elijah is the “scariest” so your love wins that contest~ 💜
Hello again darling camping anon! I have so much to say on this subject.... like SO MUCH. So buckle up.
I think the fundamental difference between the three of them is how they react to and experience control. It's simultaneously an emotion, a situation and a choice. And something that all three of them couldn't really have growing up.
They are all victims of domestic violence, and each one is dealing with it differently. (And not in a healthy way at allllllllll. They absolutely continue the cycle of abuse...)
First we have Klaus, (The iconic little shit that he is)
Tumblr media
He clings to control like a lifeline. Being the most helpless as a boy, he has always felt that if he was stronger, had more power, he could keep those around him safe. He believes that the only way he can feel safe is if he's in control. So, in his mind, any time someone takes that from him, they are actively trying to harm him. He will fight for control over everything and anything. His family, his city, his art and (most importantly) his life. His need to control the narrative around him and keep his secrets, is born out of the trauma and fear that his father instilled in him. His rage is born out of his own sense of helplessness.
Joseph Morgan does an excellent job of conveying that pain. Klaus is always a bundle of anxiety and panic and fear, no matter how he's acting. He's hyper vigilant and constantly looking over his shoulder, waiting for someone or something to try and control him again. It's why he clings so desperately to control, because he never wants to be made a victim again.
Tumblr media
Second we have Elijah, born after the loss of Freya. I've always viewed him as a tragic character, who seems to be nobody's favorite in the family, but also the glue that holds them together. He's burdened with being the adult in the room. I can imagine that Esther's grief and guilt around losing Freya sort of imprinted on to him. She probably saw him as a replacement for the daughter she lost, putting all this pressure on him to be perfect, while simultaneously giving him no agency to be his own person. His entire childhood was spent either protecting his siblings or taking care of his mother's emotional needs. (This also applies to Finn, who i'll talk about later)
His relationship with control is nearly equal to Klaus'. He's always been a peacemaker, the level headed, calm brother. Always trying to bring harmony between his siblings. And while he has a much different way of expressing his feelings, he is a victim of the same violence that the rest are.
But, what makes him the scariest is the fact that his anger is silent. Elijah doesn't show his emotions, he represses them. And then when his control snaps, it's like a damn bursting. You don't see it coming, because he's so good at hiding his anger (& all of his other feelings). But when it's there, you feel it. And it's terrifying. Because his anger is fueled by pain and a lifetime of having to be strong. It's a glimpse at a deep well of pain that you realize he has been hiding all along.
Daniel Gillies absolutely nails this simmering rage with his eyes. Somehow that man can convey every single emotion without saying a word. When he looks at his family, or a person he cares for, there is this warmth and kindness. But when he looks at a person he is angry at, a person who has hurt someone he cares about, you can see the light almost dim, and his eyes will become cold and dark. You can feel the danger and rage in them. It's a delight to watch.
Tumblr media
Third we have Kol, who is a complicated and messy character. Kol was born into a family that already had a system and a hierarchy, and he was pushed aside and ignored. Nobody's favorite, nobody's first choice. He grew up angry and frustrated, feeling unloved and unheard. He looks to his older brothers and their relationship with control, and takes the proverbial baseball bat to it. If they couldn't love him the way he needed them to, then he would make sure that they would at least remember him. So he becomes the black sheep, the outcast. He's wild and chaotic, doing whatever he can to get attention. He doesn't really care about control, because he never had any growing up. I have always viewed his bloodlust as an allegory for addiction. His response to the violence of his youth is to numb the pain with the rush of adrenaline and power. To take from others what was taken away from him.
His rage is the loudest and the quickest to come to the surface. He's not one to stew, he's quick to fight and fast to burn. Which is why his relationship with Davina is so good for him. She loves him the way he needs, and rightfully calls out his bad behavior. As gross as it sounds, she's kind of the mother figure that his actual mother never was. (IM SORRY I KNOW ITS VERY FREUD OF ME .... BUT AM I WRONG????)
I'm not going to bash any acting... But I think Daniel Sharman captures Kol much better. His complicated relationship with death, control and magic is portrayed beautifully. Especially the scene where he is dancing with Davina before he dies. It shows real growth on his part, no longer the baby brother, no longer the victim and the victimizer. In that moment he's the protector, trying to shield his girl from grief. And it always makes me tear up ...
Tumblr media
(This scene always makes me laugh, I truly believe Elijah is the funniest character)
And last, we have Finn. Who I love to make the butt of the joke here on this blog. But I do have a few things to say about his character.... Which is.... He isn't really a character. But an object.
They drag the poor man out to show the audience what bad thing can happen to an original. First with his death in TVD, teaching everyone about the white oak stake and sirelines. Second in TOG with Lucians deadly bite. He's just... Not written to be liked.. and it's never really explained why they kept him daggered for 900 years.
And with Finn... there is no control or lack thereof, because he has no agency. And his rage comes from the fact that he is a man out of time, with no one who cares about him.. And it makes his character all the more sad and pathetic.
They make him this bitter, angry villain. Trying to kill his niece, and they never justify exactly why. I think fear of Dahlia is a piss poor excuse. I would rather he lean into revenge for being daggered than trying to hold onto his righteous nonsense.
(But lets be so real here... its because the writers didn't want to give him any depth. They didn't want us to get overly attached, so they could use him as a low-stakes original vampire that demonstrates the actual deadliness of a weapon or person)
But!!!! Yusuf Gatewood is the absolute GOAT and his portrayal of Finn and his rage is just delicious. He almost reminds me of like a rabid preacher, the way he spits out his hatred and bitterness. But it's so fun and I enjoy it every time.
Anyways.... Sorry to hijack your message lol.. I just love to psychoanalyze crazy fictional men!

I was losing my mind thinking about the weird Klayley dynamic again. Hayley very clearly has daddy issues, and it's one of the reasons she's drawn to Klaus (Elijah too, to a certain degree). Klaus is this ancient, powerful being, an authority figure who exercises control over everyone, and Hayley is undeniably attracted to that. It’s why she was all over him in that tvd episode, coming on to him, teasing him about loving to be in control, and ultimately allowing him to have control over her. But at the same time, he also functions as a sort of father figure to her
He was a mentor to her during her first experience as a hybrid, guiding her when no one else could. Elijah tried, but he couldn’t get her to do anything, she was a mess, and he simply couldn't handle her. She didn’t respect him enough or love him enough for him to have any real authority over her. But Klaus? He gave her space to figure things out on her own while subtly nudging her toward a more violent path, and she followed. Yet the moment he truly stepped in, firmly demanding that she regain control and move past her grief, Hayley responded. She huffed and puffed like a child, but at the end of the day, he was the only one who actually disciplined her
She saw him as a symbol of dominance, and as rebellious as she is, she loved pushing back against it, throwing tantrums, challenging him at every turn. But he was still the only one who could truly affect her, the only one who could make her fall in line. He made her stay despite all the threats to Hope. I remembered that scene where he sternly made her promise not to go after his mother, and she weirdly acted like a child, muttering her agreement, only to go back on her word the second he left the room, whispering "Yet"? as if she had to wait for him to be gone to rebel. And I found it oddly endearing, she actually respects his word that much, even though she tells everyone else to fuck off when they try to control her
And again, yes, she thrives on challenging him because she’s defiant by nature and he represents authority to her. But when he makes something clear, she just complies. No one else can uplift her or break her spirit the way he does, and it’s soooo

From this fandom ask game.
22. Give us a headcanon for [character]
I want you to know that trying to answer this one gave me a headache because I'm pretty sure any headcanons I have for Elijah I've either used in one of my fics or they're so obvious they hardly count as a headcanon.
Also they all seem to relate to his interactions with Elena because I'm very one-note.
So let me please just answer with something easy.
Elijah a 100% recognized Elena for a hundred reasons, and I'll list a few:
He knows Elena well enough to know that her heart jumps when she's dishonest with him (additional headcanon, more related to Elena - it's interesting that he added 'with me' instead of just ending it with 'when you're dishonest').
Elena wasn't actually that good in her Katherine act. She was too startled to see him. Looked strangely disappointed in him when she realized he'd been 'shacking up with Katherine'. And smiled at him way more like Elena than Katherine.
Go listen to it if you want. But the way Elena says 'Elijah' and Katherine says 'Elijah'? Totally different.
Maybe less significantly because Katherine's a bit of a con artist but Elena's hair and dress were very not Kat's style even with the stolen shoes and jacket. Elena had counted on fooling a stranger only familiar with Katherine, not someone who knew them both.
Hell, even Katherine herself was sure he'd recognize Elena in ten seconds (the brief exchange of words, the kiss, and the little fond peck right after the kiss?... way longer than ten seconds)... after which he'd yank her heart out of her chest (nice guess, no dice!)
Rebekah thought Elijah would recognize Elena, which is why she broke in her stonewalling.
On their first introduction Elijah recognized Elena as human by scent. Don't think Elena could have fooled Elijah's nose even if nothing else tipped him off.
The whole interaction was actually felt very... testing the waters, seeing how she reacts. Kind of... back and forth. He calls her 'Katerina' -> she freezes momentarily but plays her part and comments on him being late -> he walks to her, not looking away; comments on her hair (which, as mentioned, not Katherine's style); runs his fingers over the red streak and tells her he likes it -> she exhales in relief (convinced he's bought the act) and says thank you -> he kisses her -> she's startled again but kisses him back -> he tells her 'I missed you' -> another pause before she responds with a touch too cold an air for the same sentiment (what an interesting place Elena's head must be during this bit) -> he asks after the Cure -> she visibly breaks character -> and Elijah "notices" the ring. BRAVO BOTH OF THEM honestly.
During the whole scene Elijah looks just a bit amused.
And in conclusion. Two separate scenes...
Tumblr media
Same look...

Words cannot describe how much I hate the 'Kamski made Markus specifically to lead the revolution' theory.
It takes so much agency away from Markus and undermines everything he went through to achieve freedom, however tenuous it seems, for his people and some are going to say it was all Kamski's doing?
Markus' origins are largely unknown, besides the fact that at some stage Kamski gifted Markus to Carl, but it's a bit gross that people automatically think that means that Kamski made him as some kind of pawn. It's sus for sure, I'm not denying that, but there's so many more interesting (and less insulting) theories you could come up with with that information.
And yes, I know about the cut Kamski scene where he says he'll lead the revolution next time, but that more seems to insinuate that he thinks the first revolution failed because he wasn't involved.
I don't know, the whole thing just reeks of white saviour bullshit and I hate how it minimises Markus' struggles because that was 'supposed to happen all along'.

The Mikaelson family’s relationships, especially their romantic relationships, are weird. Klaus and Elijah have a weird thing going on in which they share partners (Katherine, Tatia, Hayley - but probably more. I think it’s kinda gross being with someone who’s been with your brother but to each their own I guess). Freya fell in love with someone she kidnapped - which is never a great sign.
But the worst is probably Rebekah who is technically Marcel’s aunt - and yet they’re together romantically. Davina is like Marcel’s daughter - and yet she’s with Kol who is like Marcel’s uncle which would mean that Davina is like Marcel’s aunt. However, if Hope is the sister of Marcel, and Marcel is the father of Davina, would that make Hope her aunt? Or if Davina’s with Kol, does that make Hope her niece and Marcel her nephew?
Honestly I think the only Mikaelson sibling to have a normal (as normal as it can be given that they’re vampires and live through centuries) romantic relationship is Finn. I think he and Sage were a pretty normal, average couple compared to everyone else.
I don’t know… I’m trying not to analyze the Mikaelsons and their messed up relationships too much because it kinda grosses me out and makes my head hurt. Im trying to focus on the bright side - no one is actually related - so that’s good.
The Mikaelson are each so fucked up and their personal relationships are even more screwed.
It was implied in The Vampire Diaries the Mikaelson shared partners sexually, and there was this one girl called Mary Porter/Scary Mary, who was a "Original groupie". She was close to all of them, to the point none of them could "remember" by which sibling she had been turned. Knowing how fucked up they are, sharing partners isn't something weird, especially to Klaus and Elijah who loved fighting over the same girl.
Freya falling in love with Keelin was so fucked up. I like them, they're cute once you get past the whole kidnapping thing, but it's wrong regardless. After she finally got with Freya, her storyline was reduced to nothing: she just became her love interest and stopped being her own person. Not surprising, though, the writers of this shows love doing that.
Marcel falling for Rebekah is just straight up grooming, and it's crazy how it was never addressed or how the fandom denies it. You're gonna tell me she saw him grow up, saw his brother love and care for him as his own son, and still managed to be attracted to him? To even marry him and want children with him? It's a miracle he never called her aunt at least once, even if it was sarcastically. I really don't like how the show kept painting Marcel as the bad guy and Rebekah as the victim because he refused to be/couldn't be with her, like why?
I can overlook Kol and Davina because he never saw Marcel as family and she never saw the Mikaelson as her family either, didn't even like them. Still wrong tho, because Davina was like fifteen/sixteen by the time they met and Kol/Kaleb looked around his twenties.
Finn and Sage were absolutely adorable. I truly like Finn and I wished he had at least a chance at a happy ending, but sadly he died twice and he couldn't even mourn the woman he loved.
At least they're not related, but fucked up anyway. I try not to analyze the Mikaelson relationships either because they're clearly problematic and fucked up even for an universe such as The Vampire Diaries, but oh well.
Thanks for the ask! I had fun answering it.

the mikaelson siblings dynamic is so fucked bc they all think they’re the black sheep. like first klaus is the black sheep bc he’s a bastard and hybrid. then finn’s a black sheep cause he’s the creepy quiet boring brother (with a large age gap to the younger ones). then freya’s the black sheep cause she’s the long lost sister they never met raised by their weirdo auntie. then kol’s the black sheep cause he’s the only witch and a ripper. you could even say rebekah’s the black sheep not on surface level being that she’s the favourite and adored by all, but how she’s infantilized and can never be in the boys club. elijah is the only one who i’d say fits closely to what the parents and siblings want/expect from a family member: to be reliable and level headed and logical but still loyal to a fault. and even he breaks that illusion with the red door and his off the rails arc in s4-5. henrik died before we ever got to know him but he seems to be loved perfectly by all of them, so i won’t include him.
the ironic thing about klaus as a protagonist and his major fear that he is categorized as other is that all the people he’s afraid see him that way also feel that way about themselves. but they all think that they’re the worst version, that their exclusion and/or neglect is the most real.
and in truth it’s actually finn.
edit: niklaus is vocalized by his siblings as the outsider a number of times, called “bastard” and “half brother” a few times, but i believe this is only them trying to hit him where it hurts in response to his horrible treatment of them—not because they see him as less because of his birth father. in TO kol is also referred to as the black sheep and “the wildest”, a description you’d think would be put on klaus instead. goes to show that the insecurities and loneliness does in fact spread across the whole family but from klaus’ pov he thinks his siblings are “normal” while he’s the odd one out.
+ aside from their general feelings of being black sheep there’s also an additional layer of feelings of exclusion based around the always and forever vow, which obviously impacted finn and kol throughout their centuries. idk if freya knew or heard anything about it before s2, but i do think in s3 she felt less than for her lack of history with klaus and the difference in his treatment of her and rebekah (which i attribute to older sister vs little sister dynamics and the fact that he’s still getting to know her)

Okay, okay it‘s not a request but what do you think would have happened if in "Rules" Klaus wouldn’t have killed the reader?
Do you think Elijah would have came with him because of his siblings?
How do you think the reader would‘ve reacted? Like I‘d be mad at my guy.
Tumblr media
Oooh, I love this question… there are so many possibilities!
If Klaus didn’t kill the reader (let’s assume she stayed safely hidden), the sacrifice would still play out as it does on screen. Klaus would promise Elijah he’d return their siblings, and Elijah, loyal to his family, would betray the Salvatores and side with Klaus.
This would devastate the reader. Not only facing her brothers’ relentless “I told you so” (especially Damon) but also questioning her relationship with Elijah and her own judgment. Elijah would feel guilty, torn between his love for her and his family, but before they could address their fractures, Klaus would dagger Elijah and take Stefan, setting up the chaos of season 3.
In season 3, the reader would be on a redemptive path, consumed with guilt over trusting Elijah and focused on getting Stefan back alongside Damon and Elena. Despite rejecting her feelings for Elijah, she’d still be deeply concerned for him. Around this time she would most likely meet Rebekah(I figure they would become great friends or bitter enemies - no in-between lol) and that relationship might also reveal a new perspective on Elijah, further complicating her emotions.
Everything would come to a head once Elijah is undaggered. Damon would inform the reader, warning her to stay away, but she’d struggle with avoiding him. The Mikaelson Ball would be the perfect setting for their confrontation. Polite at first but unraveling as Elijah questions her avoidance and she challenges his betrayal. The tension would be palpable, blending bitterness with lingering affection.
When the reader learns of Esther’s plan, she would face a difficult choice: warn Elijah, risking alienation from her friends and brothers, or let the plan proceed, knowing it could mean the end of the man she still loves.
And that’s why I ended it in season 2 😂 it gets waaaay too complicated and messy...
Thanks for asking!!!

i've seen you answer a few questions about tvd so i thought i might ask, what are your thoughts on the main love triangle? and klaus/stefan?
As a caveat: I did not watch much further than the first few episodes of season 4, in fact I ragequit when one of the writers revealed we wouldn't be seeing Elijah on screen again until 4x20 at which point I thought, "Well I simply won't watch until 4x20 then".
And then 4x20 was a backdoor pilot to the spinoff The Originals and I simply watched that show instead.
All this to say, I was 100% a gung ho Vampire Diaries fan and you can tell by how closely I was following it, sadly the only TVD I know of would be the first three seasons. Same actually goes for The Originals, as I for reasons I don't remember wasn't able to access episodes post-season 3 so I wound up not knowing what happens after Hayley drives off with the entire family hibernating in her truck either.
Another disclaimer: it's been more than ten years since I watched this show and my memory may fail me at times.
With that:
The main love triangle
Having only seen the first three seasons, I think that Damon wishes quite badly he was a different man, and he is unable to take responsibility for his life and relationships being what they are. He would rather blame his failings on Stefan, and, whenever Stefan fails or falls short in some ways, it's immensely validating to Damon because who's the bad brother now?
His love for Katherine is not only about Katherine, but about being chosen by someone over Stefan. Because, as Damon will try to tell himself, just because she was sleeping with both of them and decided to turn them both, doesn't mean she didn't prefer Damon (after all, she had to compell Stefan, while Damon slept with her willingly. Victory for Damon!), and also- look, don't question Damon on this. It's fine and he's a well adjusted man, and once he has rescued his lady love from her tomb she'll tell him how much better he is than Stefan.
Enter Elena, who looks exactly like Katherine, is living in Mystic Falls just the same as Katherine, and who has drawn Stefan's interest.
Damon, eternally pulling Stefan's pigtails and being a goddamn creep, starts creeping on Elena, this does not work. Instead, however, he learns that Katherine faked her entombment, and has in fact been living her best life for the past 150 years. Worse, Damon and Stefan were never more than boytoys to her.
Cut to Elena, who is just as beautiful (in a very literal sense of the term), only she is kind, genuinely loves Stefan, the polar opposite of Katherine in every way.
Damon transfers his emotions from Doppelganger B to Doppelganger C.
Stefan, meanwhile, seems to... fall in with Elena, for lack of a better way to put it. They meet, he is confused about the resemblance to Katherine for long enough to get to know her, by which time he's into it, and Elena sees a very handsome and pleasant man who is easy to fall for.
The trouble with Stefan is I don't really have a grip on his character, he is... there, for three seasons, and he has his character moments and his speeches, I can tell you things about his personality except I can't.
He is one of those people you can know for years but never actually know who, having killed his father and become the Ripper for so many years, seems to be that he is running away from himself. That is the only way I can interpret his strange nothingness, as well as bizarre decisions like coming to live with his nephew Zach and attend high school.
I think Stefan wants to surround himself with people, form relationships with them, and through that find a sense of identity that he can enjoy. Which is where loving Elena comes in, as she is kind, generous, mature, vulnerable, and fun- the type of person you can lose yourself in, and have those simple moments of happiness Florence Welch sings about.
In other words, while my real ship here is Elejah, Stelena trumps Delena any day.
Klaus and Stefan
Klaus is a deeply sad person who is only interested in dating two people, and they are his sister Rebekah and his brother Elijah. At the time he met Stefan Elijah wasn't around, so Stefan became replacement Elijah.
(The proof of the Elijah projection lies in the fact that Klaus was fine with Stefan sleeping with Rebekah. He is historically not fine with outsiders doing this, you have to be family for Klaus to accept these things.)
"Look, Elijah," Klaus would imagine himself saying to Elijah, "I have a new brother now and he is hotter, cooler, and not a total bore like you! Stefan loves me more anyway," and then Elijah would sit and cry and give Klaus so much attention and it would be great.
As for Stefan, I think he just liked partying.
They probably did fuck, but Klaus is too embarrassing for Stefan to ever admit as much.
