Evan and Sam have a particularly close relationship, i think, because Evan has never found anything with Sam to sort of transact or make even. with k, while they were in the early stages of their relationship, it was the classic needing to do stuff for you to earn your affection. with jammer, it was a feeling of needing to match deeds done (jammer putting himself between evan & tallulah or bodily pulling him put of his shadow being repaid with evan "dracula owl" body guarding him). what has sam done for evan?

she's talked to him. that's why we didn't see as much of it in season 1, i think, because it wasn't any big moment like the crush confession or summoning the weights. i think it was a lot of late night conversations over properly sweet sundaes about mlm schemes and falling through educational cracks and different types of intelligence and how they move through the world. i think sam sat at beside him so she could show him stuff on her phone and expose him to casual, gentle touch without overstimulating him.

the meeting of her light & his shadow is equilibrium. he can see the filament she shines from and she can see the spark in his dark eyes. they can see each other. they talk to one another, and she can let down her social mask around him because he doesn't have a concept of one. sam sees evan's context and chooses to only ever refer to him as her best friend. evan doesn't care if sam goes by britain, black, or butler, she's his best friend. they don't really do gestures for one another. they have study sessions. they parallel play. they take turns dumping about their interests, the other always listening intently because they care. the only thing "transacting" between them is love.

After they've "fixed" magic I need misfits and magic 3. The gangs back together. It's 4 years later. They make their own magic school, the right way, in Chicago.

Sam as the headmistress (magic mommy), who's also teaches charm and amplification magic. Evan as the "muggle studies" teacher, being a force for good and showing "evil" students the value of family. K uses their tech and magic to teach communications and hacking. Jammer teaches sport magic and still engaging with Chicago directly as his home.

Jammer talking to his mom after receiving his letter questioning whether or not he should go to bird school: the initial excitement has died down, he’s not sure he wants to leave his friends and most importantly, his family behind. His mom wants what’s best for him and tells him to go, he tells her he’ll visit as often as he can, or write or text or email, he doesn’t know if the wifi will be good or not. He tells her he’ll work hard, study hard, learn hard, etc. so when he comes back, he’ll be able to help out more

Jammer gets CPR certified after his second time visiting LEEP. After the first time he went with his college basketball team, he’d sent Jewel an email asking about if they needed any extra help or if they had open volunteer hours. She’d sent back an effusively enthusiastic response, telling him he’d be welcome any time. After he went back the second time, she’d emailed him some extra resources he could use if he wanted to continue volunteering, including links to several different cpr certification classes he could take. It’s so inconsequential and he’s probably never going to have to use it anyways, it never crosses jammer’s mind to tell his friends about it.

Theres a kid at leep that freaks jammer out (but he still likes her because she somehow manages to be a sweet kid anyways) who talks in a fake british accent and has an imaginary friend named cassandra

a Jammer and Evan conflict, in the way that people who care deeply about each other but have opposing worldviews conflict. It’s not an argument so much as highly charged conversation about their opposing moralities and what they will or will not do for each other. Evan loves his friends enough to kill for them, jammer loves his friends enough to bring them back to life. Jammer doesn’t want his friend to kill anyone, evan doesn’t understand how jammer doesn’t understand it’s out of love. The source of all conflict between evan and jammer is that jammer believes that people are inherently good and want to help people because he wants to help people, and evan believes that people are inherently bad because he thinks he’s inherently bad.

jammer realizing that he's not allowed to leave when he tries to visit home. he already feels terrible for missing the holidays with his family. (Thanksgiving without his mom and grandparents? Christmas without his mom and grandparents?) maybe one of his family members is sick. maybe he's trying to go home to help them. the rest of his friends are fine staying, they're find not being able to leave, but Jammer? he can't leave his people. the problem is that in order to be there for his people, he has to leave his people. they're supportive, they tell him to go home and take care of his family, they tell each other they'll keep in touch, jammer's gonna watch all of sam's livestreams, they'll text and facetime, they're not going to stop being friends. jammer gets home. he tries to be the person he remembers being, so he can support his family in the way he remembers doing. due to the nature of being human, he fails. he starts telling people that he bought spalding from temu

I love Lily so much, since dying my hair ginger one of my favourite comments I get on tiktok is people saying I look like how they picture Lily which is the biggest compliment. I hc Lily as being bi and currently my favourite person to ship her with is Pandora but I have Chappell Roan related plans to write a one-shot of MaryLily. Lily's favourite flowers are daisies and angel's breath and you can find them in her hair during the summer. She loves to read either by the fire when it's cold or under a tree in the park in July. She's an omnivert and enjoys quiet study sessions with Remus where they don't have to talk but also is very happy to be dragged up to do karaoke with Mary and Marlene. Her favourite colour is sage green because it brings out her freckles and her favourite season is spring because she says "the air just smells different". Also plus-size Lily all the way!

Mary

Mary is a girl's girl. She is the one who teaches the younger students how to do their makeup and and is the chief hair braider. She has a diary the whole way through school and she writes all of her juiciest secrets in there because she knows all the gossip about everyone and keeps them all in the bottom of her trunk. Her favourite song would either be Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac or Does Your Mother Know by ABBA. She is the biggest flirt with everybody and the real Casanova of Gryffindor Tower. Her signature lip gloss is cherry scented and everyone is the group has had at least one kiss on the cheek from her which has left a pinky-red lip gloss mark there. If I was going to assign a fc for her it would be Rachel Chinouriri, I think she's so beautiful and the Mary vibes are just there.

Marlene

Marlene being from Manchester is so real for me. She grew up supporting Manchester United and went to the matches with her dad. She is the masc lesbian of my dreams (I saw someone who looked like her once and I might have fell a little bit in love) and they own the wolfcut. Marls can be sighted wearing a little top (baby tee/ tight crop top) and big pants (literally the baggiest jeans you have ever seen). When Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis comes on, she is singing the loudest. Marlene never came out, everyone just knew they are gay and when they got their first girlfriend everyone just shrugged and was like "cool". Marlene uses she/they pronouns and will punch anyone in the dick if they are mean to her friends. She absolutely adores Dorcas and is like "my girlfriend" at any opportunity. You can catch Marlene dancing along to Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender because "he just gets me", she she will insist he is the only man she could ever love just to annoy the Marauders boys.

Pandora

My Ravenclaw girliiieeee!! If you couldn't tell, Pandora has really grown on me recently and I am slowly working up to writing a fic where she is in the main ship. Pandora being a Ravenclaw like Luna is so important to me and I hc her as a Rosier and is Evan's twin when I write her, but not the way that people normally write them. Pandora is very adamant that she is her own person and there is more to her than being a twin. She loves her experiments which we know from canon, she would have loved watching How Its Made (the tv show), and was that kid who would take things apart to see how they work. She collects insects like butterflies, moths and beetles and keeps them in a display in her room and has pet stick insects that she loves to freak people out with. Pandora would LOVE Paris Paloma, she's vibing with Labour and Notre Dame and The Fruits. Although I said I love shipping Lily with Pandora, Xenophilius and Pandora (xenodora) have my heart, I love them, they are my favourite straight-presenting queer couple. I think they chose the surname Lovegood when they got married (I hc Xeno as a disowned Malfoy) which I know a few people hc. I could talk about Pandora forever but I will move on.

Dorcas

Last but not least, Dorcas! She's the kind of girl who calls everyone babydoll (Barty loves it). She's such an it-girl and would be the person you see on Instagram posing in front of the houses in Kensington with her iced coffee. Dorcas is taalllll and has legs for days, models should be glad she decided to stick to being the office siren. Her favourite hobbies are judgingly people watching in the window seat of coffee shops, and taming her girlfriend to stop them from trying to fight everyone who looks at the two of them funny. Everyone thinks Dorcas hates them at first (even Marlene who spend months thinking Dorcas was rebuffing her advances), but she just looks at everyone like that, she shows her love by being mean. Dorcas loves to listen to Rina Sawayama, her favourite song is STFU!

Evan tried to sew K's jacket because he saw how uncomfortable they were, and he knows what its like to be uncomfortable. He did it because he wanted to help. He did it because they aren't together anymore but he still Cares SO much for his friends.

K tried to heal Evans arm and realized they couldn't fix anything because it was already healed. But they could heal it Better if they tried to re-brake it. So they did, they used magic to try to break and heal Evans arm. They tried to fix him. They were uncomfortable with the damage Evan had been through and wanted to fix it, to feel good about themselves and to rid themself of the physical reminder that bad things happened to Evan. Evan wasn't upset with his scars or how his arm healed. K saw something they thought they could fix and it blew up in there face. And in Sam's face. And Jammer's face. And Evan's face lol

ok ok it's theory time bc i'm rewatching mismag 1 as a coping mechanism so potential spoilers ahoy & forgive me if it's rambly i've also had a sedative

the serpent in the storm. the one without a name and only shown as an illumination in the Tome of Nimble Working. is that what was possessing evan? like is it the amalgamation of the "demons" that were haunting him, or even just The Main Guy? i'm not sure if this creature has anything to do with the breaking of magic, I just started thinking about this today at work, but hear me out.

in Class Conflict, the manifestation of the thing haunting Evan when it emerged to protect him was the blood cobra, and the barb that Tallulah hit Evan with after potions class was that all she heard was "hissing noises." so we know that snakes are something evil & monstrous in wizard culture (as much as they were in HP) but not because they're the mascot of the "evil house" Aqarbus. so where did the serpent symbolism come from?

later, in Family on Six when Evan makes the agreement to lean on the demons to save K, the "permanent change" that Brennan describes is that out of the shadow across evan's face "just goes black and is leaking black oil and water." aabira's description of the illumination of this creature was "a mix between a snake and an oil-soaked bird of prey." oil-soaked.

this is kinda what got me thinking in the first place, because what are the things you think of when you think of Evan Kelmp? Bird Facts and Gas Station Parking Lots. this absolutely feels like something Aabria would pull to make Brennan eat the lore he created.

it's also the type of shit she would do because of K's attempts to find any sort of books about what these "demons" might be during the exorcism, only to be met with "you think you're going to find me in a book?" maybe not named. not studied. no anatomical drawings or any sort of understanding as to what it is. but yeah. they'll find it in a book.

i do think that maybe this bird snake entity has been tied to Evan since before his birth---aabria's description in the latest S2 ep: "you feel yourself and the inside of you is empty, and something that was always meant to be poured in is beginning to pour itself back in" tells me that Evan was born to be a vessel for something. now, the demons at the exorcism said that Evan was promised to them. promised by whom? promised by what? maybe by the thing that knew it was going to be held within Evan, and knew that if he were to grow up with a dark enough childhood, if he were to be haunted enough, he might become the Dark One.

now, we don't really know the mythology of the Dark One. we don't know what sort of prophecy was told about it. going off of the general trope of the thing, we've gotta assume that it's something along the lines of "this person will unleash a great terror/darkness/evil upon the world." this likely was supposed to happen as a result of evan's torment like a psychotic break, or maybe as a defense mechanism in a life-or-death situation. either way, this creature and the magic that it represents would have wanted to be released, maybe still using Evan as a vessel and working through him to maintain its unknown, mythological status. this thing isn't Tad, it can't and won't be lulled to sleep.

could this creature have been accidentally released as a result of sam's exorcism? probably, it had to have been a thing or else it wouldn't be on the orery.(besides, this ancient monstrosity would never have anticipated Sam Black). could it be that it was released after K killed Evan? possibly, idk how often gm's rearrange lore behind the scenes to better fit what's happened in the story they're playing through.

whatever the case, I do think that it's not insignificant that Evan only started getting inklings of this sort of repossession leaking in after the events on Seeganpelater. the place where he saw the creature through the serpent's watch (a scene that in illustration implies that, maybe, the serpent could see them, too). the place where he snapped his wand. the place where he killed Boudicca. where we saw him be a magic murderer, where we saw him truly tap into the darkness he's been assigned his whole life. somewhere on cannibal Island, there was a moment of reconnection, and it helps that the very next places they went to were the islands that 1) stressed Evan out beyond belief, and 2) worked with amplification. it was able to strengthen its bond either the minute they landed, or as soon as Evan leaned into his strengths to scratch the tree with his shadow.

maybe this creature is what broke the well of magic. maybe it created the storm and destroyed Gowpenny. maybe this is a version of the Dark One prophecy coming true, breaking the rules of magic to the point that the entire system is broken and the world can never be what it used to. maybe it's not involved in anything and is just reveling in the chaos. I don't know. maybe all of these are coincidences between seasons. fun to think about, though!

I have absolutely no excuse for the fact that my "Six Sentence Sunday" is fully 1,000 words long, other than that I wrote this scene in like thirty minutes and I love it and just want to share it all. Also, because this is a part of a sequel to a fic that I have barely started writing, by the time I post this for real, you all should have forgotten it existed

Anyway, enjoy some Hevans angst with a side of pining Blaine. Below a cut because, like I said, it's long.

When Blaine opens the door, it’s to Kurt thrusting a red and white jacket into his arms. “I need you to take this,” he says, and then rushes back to his car to collect a box, “and all of this.” He drops it in Blaine’s entryway and then shuffles quickly backwards like he’s scared it’s going to attack him.

Blaine gapes for a second and looks down at the jacket in his hands. He sees a large E and V on the back and carefully shakes it out until he can see the name Evans emblazoned on the back. Kurt bites his lip and a distressed whimper makes it’s way out. Blaine immediately rushes forward to comfort him, but Kurt shies away.

“Kurt,” Blaine says softly, “what happened?”

Kurt hugs himself and takes in a shaky breath. “I broke up with Sam.”

Blaine’s heart flutters in excitement and then promptly sinks into his stomach with guilt. Kurt’s heartbroken, and that’s easy to see, just because this means Blaine actually has a shot with him does not mean he should be glad for Kurt’s pain.

Blaine drops the jacket in the box and then goes to Kurt, wrapping him in as big of a hug as he can when he’s two inches shorter than him, standing on his tiptoes to do it. Kurt clutches at his back and sobs into his shoulder.

“What’d he do?” Blaine coos, rubbing soothing circles up and down Kurt’s spine.

“He didn’t do anything,” Kurt hiccups, “he’s perfect, like he always is. He’s kind, and he’s caring, and he’s understanding, and he’s beautiful, and I love him.”

Blaine’s heart clenches and he pulls away, settling his heels on the ground as he grasps Kurt’s biceps to push him back a step so he can look him in the eye. “I’m confused,” he says after a moment of studying Kurt’s face trying to piece it it all together.

Kurt rubs the back of his hand under his nose and Blaine pulls his handkerchief out of his pocket to give him. Kurt laughs for a second before his face crumples again. “He’s not coming back from Kentucky,” he says, “at least not before school starts. He doesn’t know when or if he’s gonna come back to Lima, and he’s hopeful he’ll be back here next year, but I’ll be in New York next year, so we still won’t be together, and who knows if he’ll want to come to New York when he graduates or if we’ll be stuck in the long-distance relationship forever, and what if I just want my boyfriend to be near me, okay?” Kurt rushes this all out in one breath and then takes a second, breathing heaving.

“Is that selfish?” he asks after a moment. “Am I terrible for calling it quits instead of sticking it out as it slowly breaks me?”

“No,” Blaine reassures, reaching up to cup Kurt’s cheek, “of course you’re not. And if Sam said you are–”

“But he didn’t!” Kurt cries, his bottom lip quivering. “He didn’t object at all, he just sat there, staring at me through a grainy web cam, all stoic and sad, and said ‘if that’s what’s best for you,’ didn’t even try to fight me on it!”

Blaine frowns. “So… you amicably broke up, because you wanted to, but you’re mad at him for not fighting with you over it?”

“Yes!” Kurt says throwing his hands in the air and knocking Blaine’s hands away from him. Blaine takes a startled step back as Kurt finally moves from his entry way and stomps angrily up the stairs to Blaine’s bedroom. Blaine follows and he swears Kurt waits for him to enter the room before he throws himself dramatically on the bed.

“If he doesn’t fight me on it, how do I know he even cared?!”

Blaine slumps in his desk chair, fighting back the fond smile he can feel creeping onto his face. “He could probably ask the same thing about you.”

Kurt sits up and glares at him. “So now you’re taking his side?”

Blaine holds up his hands in defense. “I’m not taking his side, I’m just pointing out that you’re… being a little hypocritical.”

Kurt huffs and collapses back on the bed, folding his arms over his chest. “Isn’t he supposed to like, try? Posit some grand gesture about how he’ll find a way back here, come hell or high water?”

“He’s sixteen, Kurt. We’re teenagers, we are held to the whims of our parents', and currently, his parents are in Kentucky, and would like him to be there with them.”

“You’re not subject to your parents' whims,” Kurt grumbles.

Blaine snorts. “My parents' whims are to leave me home alone, ‘house-sitting’,” Blaine makes air quotes, “while they spend the summer in Scotland. I’d, for one, love to be living in Kentucky with parents and siblings who remember I exist.”

Blaine watches Kurt deflate as his arms fall away from his chest and he fully starfishes on the bed. “But then you wouldn’t be here for me to complain to,” Kurt says and Blaine can still hear a slight pout in his voice.

Blaine sighs and stands up, crossing the room to kneel beside the bed. He takes the hand closest to him in both of his and holds it, staring at Kurt with the biggest puppy-dog eyes until he rolls his head to the side to look at him.

“And I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Blaine says, and kisses Kurt’s knuckles, glad to be rewarded with a small, if sad, smile. “You pick out what movie you want to cry to while I go hide the ‘Sam box’ away from you, okay? I’ll keep it safe until you want it back.”

Kurt frowns. “What if I never want it back, wouldn’t it be better to burn it?”

“You burn the stuff from bad exes, you hide the stuff from good ones, because one day you’ll want to look back and remember your first boyfriend.” Blaine stands up and holds out a hand to Kurt.

“You’ve never even been in a relationship,” Kurt points out, allowing himself to be pulled into a sitting position.

Blaine laughs. “Maybe not, but I have seen Gilmore Girls.”

“The ‘Dean-box’,” Kurt sighs.

“The ‘Dean-box’,” Blaine repeats and forces himself not to linger on the fact that Kurt hasn’t let go of his hand.

what i think the marauders favourite tv show would be - based on my favs :)

james - stranger things. he’d watch it because everyone was raving about it and then become emotionally invested in the characters. he thinks the concept of the monsters is really cool but also very terrifying. he’d definitely make everyone else watch it too, and he’d be mouthing along the lines while they did. his favourite character would be steve harrington, because i think they’re pretty similar. the episode he’d like the most would be s4 ep6.

regulus - the rain on netflix. it’s a kinda disturbing show about an apocalyptic world where the rain literally kills you if it touches you and there’s a whole thing with sibling betrayal and i just feel like he’d eat it up. his favourite character would be lea or kira. he would really love dystopian and apocalyptic shows in general tbh. his favourite episode would be the cult one, because it explores religion in an apocalyptic world.

sirius - greys anatomy. i’ve said this before but he would secretly LOVE greys, even if he won’t admit it. his favourite character is addison montgomery, closely followed by mark sloan. the episode he likes the most is the musical episode but if you ask him, he hates it. also he would so do the superhero pose amelia shepherd does before her surgeries before he does anything important.

remus - the society. it’s a dark, weird and kinda obscure show that only had one season because of covid but he’d love it. he’d bring it up in conversation with everyone and ask them what they’d do if all adults suddenly disappeared, which would obviously have varying responses. he’d complain about not getting a satisfying ending to it all the time. his favourite character is sam or kelly definitely. he can’t choose a favourite episode because literally so much happens in every one.

lily - the good place. i’ve also said this before, but i just genuinely think she’d love it. it’s a show that she would watch while knitting or studying, because it’s easy to follow and funny. she’d definitely quote it a lot and it’d create some great & healthy conversations between the marauders about mortality, morals and death. her favourite character is janet!

pandora - a series of unfortunate events. she’d love this show wholeheartedly. it’s so messy and reminds her of the odd things that seem to keep happening to her. she’d know the “that’s not how the story goes” song and sing it all the time, though she’d change the lyrics to fit whatever situation or drama is going on. her favourite character is sunny, and she started wearing more bows in her hair because of violet! her favourite episode would be s2 ep3!

mary - desperate housewives. she would love the drama, the betrayals and the overall storylines. she’d know every little thing about it, from all the names of lynette’s children to mrs mccluskey’s backstory. her favourite character is gabby solis and she will take no criticism. her favourite episode is the one where carlos’ mum falls down the stairs.

marlene - glee. i genuinely believe she’d know every single big song and wouldn’t stop singing them. you hear “Don’t Stop Belivin’” being sung (badly) in the hallway? it’s marlene. her favourite character is santana lopez and she knows the entire monologue that she says to kurt in season 6. she constantly complains about this show but really does love it. her favourite episode is the klaine & brittana wedding!

dorcas - heartbreak high! she’d love the petty drama and storylines that happen in this show, and she’d so create her own “map” but put concealment charms on it because unlike harper and amerie she’s smart enough not to get caught. her favourite character would be ca$h or harper, and the episode she likes the most would be ep4.

barty - how to sell drugs online (fast)! this show is so hilarious and i really think he’d enjoy it. he’d smell the plot twists coming a mile away but he’d still love it, and probably make evan watch it with him. his favourite character is moritz because he’s just such an idiot and he sort of reminds him of himself, though i feel like he’d love lisa too. he would say that he doesn’t have a favourite episode because he loved it all.

evan - the umbrella academy. he would compare the dysfunctional family to the marauders nonstop. he’d love the way it explores time travel and superpowers, and would spend hours in the library researching if it was possible because he’d get hyper fixated on it of course. his favourite character is klaus (no surprise there lol) and he literally cried during that one episode in season 3. his favourite episode is the first ever one.

(as always, these are my own opinions!! i’ve personally watched all these shows and love them all very much!! this took a while to make but we move who needs a sleep schedule anyway. )

For @bucktommyweek day 2: Day Two: A figure from their past. Title: When the Sun Goes Down Pairings: Eddie/Buck/Tommy, past Buck/Abby Rating: Teen and Up Notes: Eddie doesn't like Abby but this isn't an Abby bashing fic, at least I don't think it is. Summary:

Buck was happy. Happier than he ever thought to be. He was free and finally felt comfortable in his skin. Chimney liked to tease that Buck was even more like his golden retriever side with all his bouncing and smile that never left his face when they weren't on a call. Bobby and Hen were so happy for him. And he knows that Athena gave both Tommy and Eddie the shovel talk, it was the scariest moment of their lives according to them.

Tommy meets Abby, the woman who broke Buck's heart.

Teaser: Tilting her head Abby studied Buck, he had gotten even more handsome if that was possible and while she loves Sam and the life she made with him and their girls there is a part of her that wondered what would have happened if she stayed and tried to make a life with Buck. He was amazing in bed and treated her like a Goddess. “How are you, Buck? We should get together while I am in town. Catch up, you could finally meet Sam.”

‘Hell no.’ Was the response that flashed into Buck's head there was no way that he would put Eddie in the same area as Abby, the man hated her with a passion. There would be no way of holding his boyfriend back as he let Abby know just what he thought about her treatment towards him.

‘Then there is Tommy.’ Buck wasn't sure what his other partner would think of his ex.

As if summoning a strong arm wrapped around Buck’s waist as a kiss was placed on his cheek, “Evan, sorry I am late Lucy decided she wanted to tell me in great detail about her date last night.” Tommy blinked as he took in the woman staring in confusion at him. “Oh, who is your friend?”

Clearing his throat Buck leaned into Tommy's embrace. “Tommy, this is Abby Clark, an old friend of mine. Abby, this is Tommy, my boyfriend.”

Tommy has heard all about Evan's ex-girlfriends Eddie has been very vocal in his dislike of those who used and then tossed aside their adorable boyfriend. Taylor Kelly and Abby Clark were tied for first place in Eddie’s bad books, those names were banned in their house for how they treated Evan and the last time Taylor's face showed up on the news Eddie had gone on an hour-long rant.

“Oh, it is nice to meet you, Tommy.” There was something in Abby's eyes that said it was anything but nice.

Tommy was instantly on guard. He could see why Evan was drawn to her, she is pretty but she had shattered Evan's heart and that was not something he could forgive. “It's nice to meet you as well. I have heard so much about you.”

Buck wanted to run away and hide. Tommy had heard about her from the presidents of the ‘We hate Abby’ club, Eddie and Maddie. Even Christopher didn't like her and they had never met!

‘She hurt you Buck that is all I need to know.’ Christopher looked so much like his dad with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face.'

I feel like I can no longer pick Evan as an underrated character because I swear half of my posts are about him/Rosekiller. Which means I also can't pick Barty. Shit. I've already yapped about Pandora and Xeno...

So here's some yapping about Marlene!

I think Marlene grew up in Manchester with a muggle mother and pure-blood father, maybe in the Salford area, and is very much that person who says "Manchester is waaaay better than London anyway" every year when they go down to get the Hogwarts Express.

Marlene has two older brothers (Damien & Carl) who are 5 and 9 years older than her and a sister (Heidi) who is 2 years younger. They grew up in a 3 bedroom house so the 2 boys and the 2 girls share until both boys have moved out and Marlene gets her own room which she says was the best day of their life (until their first kiss with Dorcas).

Weekends were spent going to Man United matches with her dad and brothers, tagging along to go to the pub with her dad where she sits by the jukebox asking people to give them a pound so they can choose a song, and as a teenager during school holidays she'd get the tram into the city centre to get some fries and a milkshake from Maccies and sit in Piccadilly Gardens. Marlene 100% would dip her fries in the milkshake.

When she went to Hogwarts, Marlene found herself questioning gender and sexuality a lot. By the start of third year they'd accepted being a lesbian but gender was still a big thing for them. At the end of third year, Marlene has developed a big fat gay crush on Dorcas but doesn't do anything about it for 2 years. At 14/15, Marlene cuts her hair short-ish and gets called a boy for the first time. It doesn't feel right but it sparks something. Marlene has always been a tomboy but begins to find joy in androgyny. It makes me very sad that Marlene didn't live to see the film Paris is Burning (1990) because I think Marlene would have loved it. I could see Marlene getting into drag and being a drag king? Stealing clothes from the boys and dressing up in the common room and singing along to whatever music is on, standing on the tables.

In a modern AU, I could see Marlene being really into Oasis and I've previously mentioned how loud and enthusiastically they sing along to Chelsea Dagger. She'd be a big Sam Fender fan and worships the ground Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde walk on.

One day in 5th year, the library is packed with students studying for exams and there is one table that is empty enough for Marlene to be able to work at. They recognise the person sat there, a Slytherin girl who is friends with Sirius's brother. She sits down and has the need to fill the silence with awkward yapping. Somehow, she manages to charge this girl into agreeing to go to the last Hogsmeade trip together but Marlene doesn't really realise it's a date and Dorcas is lowkey pissed because Mary and Lily are there. Marlene lies and says the other two girls are going out and it's a double date and makes them go along with it. They have their first kiss on the train at the end of the school year and they write to each other over summer. Dorcas is the first person Marlene talks to about gender and its something they help each other with.
