I think it's really interesting how your godly parent determines how people perceive you in CHB. They ostracize and exclude Nico because he's a son of Hades. They worship and admire Percy for being a son of Poseidon. They trust Annabeth because she's a daughter of Athena.
But really, aren't they all just kids who deserve better?

hazel drawing her friends
she doesn't draw leo's face bc she's drawn that same face before and its very weird for her but she'll draw faraway shots of him steering the ship like an 18th century sea captain
she drew festus too, asleep but still frightening
piper's self conscious about being drawn but hazel loves her and loves how she looks and spends a lot of time trying to capture what makes piper so magnetic
she herself is kind of self conscious about drawing reyna or annabeth but she draws them in each other's clothes - reyna in jorts, annabeth in a toga and cape - and they both think its funny as hell
hazel draws reyna's dogs too. they pose for her and everything.
obviously arion is her top model
she draws frank all the time and it makes him blush. she'll draw frank drinking juice and caption it "frank drinking juice"
she drew frank in a world war one uniform for childhood crush reasons but felt like something was missing so she drew him in a plane that was about to crash and ended up getting super invested in the plane detail so its a very dramatic drawing. frank was like "uuhhh why am i getting shot down?" and she was like "clearly you don't understand art???"
she draws nico and gives him better hair bc she's nice
she also gives him a cool vintage car in some pictures. or a vespa.
she won't do a self-portrait
she draws percy destroying the glacier, like if the son of neptune cover was drawn by a non-professional artist.
she had one drawing of jason based on the day that she met him at camp jupiter. it was not a good day for her bc she was newly resurrected and very scared. it is a very good technical drawing of jason, and he looks powerful and strong, but he has intense eyes with no expression behind them and there is a very unnerving feeling to the drawing itself.
to piper and leo it reminds them a little of when jason had amnesia, but this is a drawing of him before that, which is not quite accurate to how hazel perceived him or to how he really was. its probably hazel's best work but it makes her and everyone a little uncomfortable.

something something annabeth going out of her way to pay respects at her mothers temple and always trying to be the perfect daughter and not being saved and percy being out right rude to his father and still getting saved and how it mirrors how black women must go above and beyond only to get mistreated and how white men get to be rewarded for mediocrity something something

I wish they gave show Annabeth blonde hair and grey eyes. Just think about it. The only solid thing the book gave us about Athena kids are that they have blonde hair and grey eyes. How gorgeous would grey eyes and dark skin be? The contrast alone has a part of my brain going jsjejjeejekeke.
And the confidence a black girl would need to rock blonde hair? It could be a character arc for her. Plus it would make her canonical complaints of no one taking her seriously because she's blonde valid. A white girl complaining about that makes her seem vapid or naive. A black girl doing the same because people think she dyed her hair blonde for the attention instead of being born like that on top of the racism? It would be a valid, weighted complaint.
Just think about it.

Annabeth hearing Luke’s confession, Annabeth seeing the Fates cut the string, Annabeth and her relationship with Luke and Thalia expanded more, this show is really giving her the attention she deserves

I'm rereading Titan's Curse, and I've realised that the only reason why Bianca and Nico were even safe from Thorn in the end was because of Percy.
He went to get them without Thalia, Annabelle and Grover's help. Then he was captured along with them, and it was the empathy link that he had with Grover that let the other three find Percy, Bianca and Nico.
Percy's stupid decision to go and get Bianca and Nico with no backup was probably the only thing that saved them that night.

I'm completely fascinated with the state of Percy and annabeth and their relationships with their godly parents now and in the future, because as the series progresses it's kinda flipped, with Percy and poseidon having one of the better godly parent and kid relationships, meanwhile annabeth gets progressively more bitter towards Athena, especially when she sends her on the suicide quest in moa
Interestingly enough, I don't think Athena denying them sanctuary this past ep will diminish annabeths opinion of her that much. She's spent years praying to her and believing in a system with the gods, that's not gonna go away after one situation. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think she's gonna be hurt/disappointed by this, but I also think she's gonna think she deserves it for getting involved in sending the head to olympus

child of urania here! i'm a rogue demigod but i wanted to know how the urania cabin looks like!
Urania! Ooo, hoo, hoooo! That's an interesting one! You don't meet too many children of the muses! I guess that makes us cousins!
Anyways, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we don't actually have any finished cabins for the muses yet. I currently am staying in the Hermes cabin, but Lady Hestia has offered her cabin as an additional place for unclaimed kids or children whose parent hasn't gotten a cabin quite yet. I might end up moving there for a little bit!
Good news, though! Five of the nine muses' cabins are already under construction. I helped oversee some of the plans, along with Jason and Annabeth. Urania's is one of them, and it's definitely going to be cool!
Based on the designs I’ve seen, there’s going to be lots of really cool astronomy stuff!
The ceiling will be like a planetarium, with all the visible stars being projected in real time. And then you’ll be able to control it like a real planetarium, too! There’s going to be a lot of really nice shades of black and blue, with gold accents. It’s going to be really pretty! I’ll see if I can get a photo of the plans. Also, Leo’s building an astrolabe unique to your cabin!
And then, once it’s complete, I’ll formally invite you to come to camp! And you won’t have to stay all the time, but I think you would really enjoy it.
Hope to see you soon! Construction should be complete in a few weeks to about a month!

If you think about it, Percy and Annabeth are a perfect couple.
They're alike in all the ways that matter. They're both extremely loyal and protective of the people they care about.
They will both feel eaten alive with guilt if they think that they let someone down. Like when Percy failed to save his mom from the minotaur, or Annabeth couldn't save Thalia.
Both of them are good at becoming focused and resilient under hardship, so they don't lose their minds in situations that would break most people.
Percy isn't as dumb as he sometimes acts or is made out to be.
Percy's actually very resourceful. He just needs to put his mind to it more often. Percy has been shown to be able to work out things in a pinch that require intelligence and resourcefulness.
Annabeth won't initially appear to be as open-hearted as Percy, but she is if she's given the time to think things over and absorb the situation. She always sees that Percy is right to give 'different' people like Tyson a chance.
Annabeth is initially cautious and distrusting, but she's not closed off or closed minded.
My point is that Percy and Annabeth are actually a lot more alike than their usually playful squabbles let on. Annabeth is the most ideal romantic partner for Percy.
Percy is also the perfect sweetheart with women. He never makes unwanted romantic advances on anybody. He holds off and waits.
In fact, Percy usually doesn't push anyone to do something that they might not want to do.
Percy has a heart of gold.

Thinking about how the love from the gods while true isn't a good one and how luke and annabeth who were more raised in their godly side have the most real yet messed love in the series.
thinking about how, in an effort to detatch himself from the gods as much as possible, luke became just like them. his love for annabeth, while true underneath, is mostly contingent based on her being on his side. he's always trying to convince her to join him—yes because he loves her but also because he ultimately holds his values in the world of mythology over his love. it isn't until the moment that he is in danger from kronos, that he offers to run away from all of this with annabeth.
ofc, the same could be said on annabeth's end, though perhaps a little less so, as she's a lot more hesitant to hurt him as he is to hurt her. between her two parents she probably had more influence from her mom or definitely her mom's side of things, though really the most influence she had was from luke. it's kind of facinating that he essentially raised her, and the values he seemed to instill within her (& ofc there's the nature vs nurture of it all) don't seem to match with what he was thinking internally (thinking about the demigod diaries). i know that she saw him in an idealized light, though i'd love to see what their relationship looked like early on through another character's perspective.

I swear the PJO show has breathed new life into me. Like I feel like I’m 13 again, staying up an hour til my alarm went off reading fanfics. It’s really shaping up to be one of the worst hyperfixations I’ve had in a while. I’m practically begging for table scraps of content and I’m having so much fun. These books were my life as a kid and I’m gonna reread them all over again.
Not to mention Annabeth is black! Like, she’s literally me! Omg it makes me wanna cry when I think about it. I’m so in love with the cast and I can’t wait to watch them grow into these roles and other roles outside of the franchise. I absolutely need a second season. I need every season so badly! Omg the percabeth scenes literally make me ascend!!! I’ll pay for the underwater kiss myself if I need to!

[pjo series thoughts - spoilers ep. 1]
First note is a biggie: When Sally starts describing the story of Perseus in the museum, I had to pause. It starts with Perseus and his mother thrown into a box and cast out to sea, to be forgotten about, to die basically. It made me think about how Sally and Percy basically grew up alone, how that situation mirrors Perseus in the myths, and the fact that in the myths the mother-son pair were 'surrounded by sea' (the exact words Sally uses to tell the story, btw) just adds to the parallel.
In the books, Sally describes Poseidon essentially going to the sea and never coming back. In the show, we meet her properly at the apartment and she's standing in the rain, surrounded by water. In short, the 'surrounded by' part of that story is equivalent to 'being shaped by'. Their lives – both Sally-Percy and Perseus and his mom in the myths – had a large part of their lives determined by Poseidon, determined by the sea.

• Bobofit? just makes me think of Boba Fett and now I'm picturing Nancy fanart as a star wars clone XD
• Eddie the Super is a bro in this adaptation. I agree with what I've heard some other folks saying around these fandom parts, I like this change from Eddie being one of the poker buddies to being at odds with Gabe, too.
• Sally Jackson listening to 'logical' by Olivia Rodrigo. Sally Jackson being an Olivia fan!!!!
• Gabe and Sally's relationship here... it's not good sure, but in this adaptation, I can see sort of how they could have started, maybe at first it not being about 'protecting Percy', as they sort of have a banter here that doesn't just seem like a watered-down/kid-friendly version of a dysfunctional marriage but also like the remnants of some sort of clicking. Of course, I want to believe that Gabe is still an awful human being, and yeah, the show portrays that he's a slum, a verbal dick towards everyone in his life, has abusive habits like checking Sally's phone without permission, so I still don't like him here. But, there's a difference between series!Gabe and book!Gabe in which book!Gabe was just painted as cut and dry, black and white awful, like the worlds slimiest, grimiest old fool. Maybe it's the act of seeing it instead of reading about it since in the book we ARE the narrator – a twelve-year-old boy with a limited worldview and seeing things more as cut-dry/black-white – and here we're more on the outside looking in, so we can approach the world with a more objective viewpoint, and see details not as 'good' or 'bad' but as just details. Just something like 'life just be like that sometimes' kind of way.
• 'Like a puzzle with have the wrong pieces' hit home for me. Also, describing Percy's attention slips through the mist as 'daydreaming' is such a good way to relate ADHD to his demigodness. I like how the series described Percy's mind and disabilities better so far than the books.
• 'Something that felt real to you that no one else can see?' The way Sally delivers this line... UGH so good at being very subtle in suggesting that she can relate to Percy personally here, hinting at her ability to see through the mist as well despite being 100% mortal. Or maybe that's just me knowing things revealed later in the series and subplanting that onto the now.
• It's hard explaining greek gods being real to your son. LOL undercut perfectly with Walker's comedy ("like– like Jesus?"). Also, Walker's acting? 10/10
• putting Percy and Grover at odds in the series just like in the books but each do it differently – in the books, Percy ditches Grover bc he's acting weird and it's stressing Percy out. In the series, Grover is the one that does the dirty deed and makes sure Percy gets expelled from Yancy. Either case, they both put tension in the relationship (to be repaired later in the narrative). So, before you say anything bad about the differences between book and series, think about the emotional part of it. The series speaks to the HEART of the scene, of the story, even if it's not a word-for-word retelling with visuals.
• "He is brutal, he is relentless, he–" "He is still wearing underpants." Classic Percy comedy akdjfhgklsjdfg I'm in love
• Sally setting Grover up for his emotional journey on the quest by making him swear to protect Percy against all monsters/threats that come his way.
• Oh god, it's even more heartwrenching the second time watching Percy watch his mom "die" – the silence that encompasses the moment, all sounds drowning away, the rain so crystal clear on his face, and his eyes... god. so good.
• I love the last scene. The campers' voices coming out of the blackness, the blackness fading into a hazy purple sunset as Percy's vision come to. Annabeth's voice saying "he must be the one,' as she so wants him to be the one that will bring her along on a quest. just the way the framing lands at the end, with the subtle movement of camper silhouettes shifting away and Chiron front and centre, welcoming Percy (and thus the audience) into the world (into the series). Such a good introduction. So, so good.

Annabeth was not one to fawn. She was a warrior. A demigod, but Architecture was her world. It was one of the things that made perfect sense and had captivated her even when she'd run off with Luke and Thalia. So looking at some of the old buildings in the neighborhood brought utter warmth and intrigue to her. The brunette's heart beating faster as calculations danced in her head. It was lovely. Reminded her of the laptop that had been one of her souvenirs from the labyrinth quest. She missed that knowledge. Her dream had always been to create a new Olympus. Something that Luke had tried to corrupt her with before. But this could be her homeland in this new land. It was a marvel that was old. Classic in a way that didn't usually speak to her but spoke of a turning point in the past.A royal commission Queen's House completed in 1633 and again . It showed Inigo Jones's purist Palladian style that did not mirror the exuberant Baroque fashionable in mainland Europe. "Have you seen anything like it?" the Athena child found herself saying.

This is such a tiny detail but I love how Annabeth gave Percy her necklace before he went to Olympus and in many ways it makes even more sense than giving it to him before fighting Ares. Sure, the Ares fight was a big deal and he needed all the luck he could get but going up to Olympus was genuinely really dangerous and he had to face perhaps the biggest “monster” of all which Annabeth finally recognised and that’s why she gave him the necklace
