The Harkonnen's Claim
Feyd-Rautha x Atreides!Reader
Summary: Your brother, Paul, took you from Feyd in a vulnerable moment, and if he wants the woman he loves back, he will have to give your brother something in return.
Notes/Warnings: this is part 2 of 2. Ignore canon ages in the timeline. I don’t know what they are, but everyone young is in their twenties, cool? Cool. Dune inaccuracies. Mention of pregnancy (present) and miscarriage (past). Jessica and Paul kind of (very much) suck. Feyd’s a soft boy for our reader. Smutty-ish (18+) and fluffy stuff, tidbit of angst. I'm sure there are spelling mistakes. I read it twenty times, but you know how it is. I think that’s it.
Words: 3300
Feyd Masterlist Part 1
You can’t see him—your eyelids are too heavy—but he’s shouting. Cursing. With each of his grunts glass shatters and metal clangs against the walls. Feminine voices are shrieking in sync with the rageful sounds coming from your lover and his actions. He is scaring them. He shouldn’t be scaring them. It isn’t their fault.
“Get out!” he yells.
More shrieks. Multiple pairs of feet rapidly shuffle about. The door slams and then Feyd is sitting beside you on the bed, one hand brushing your hair back from your forehead, the other rubbing up and down your forearm and pulling it onto his lap.
“My love…” he says, “It’s ok. You’re ok.”
You swallow hard and peel open your eyelids to see his face hovering above you. A sigh leaves his lips when his eyes connect with yours.
“They were only here to help,” you mutter.
Feyd bites down hard, sharpening the line of his jaw. He has much to say, you know, but he struggles to release his frustration in any manner other than shouting or fighting in the arena. Right now, he can’t do either.
“They did nothing to help,” he softly snaps.
But he’s wrong. The women he brought in to examine you did exactly as they were told. It’s just that their conclusion upon taking a look at you was not what he, nor you, expected to hear.
“Considering the excessive bleeding, she seems to have—” the woman paused; you could hear the tremble in her voice “—lost the baby, my Na-Baron. I’m very sorry.”
Neither of you has spoken about heirs or lineage or combining the genetics of Great Houses. You hadn’t even known of your pregnancy until you heard them tell Feyd that you are no longer carrying the child, and yet, you feel a tremendous loss. You instantly wonder what that child would have been. A boy? A girl? Would they have been a warrior like their father? Or more level-headed like their mother? Maybe a combination of both—that would probably be best for everyone.
“We’ll try again when you feel better,” Feyd tells you, leaning down and pressing his forehead into yours.
Slowly closing your eyes, you reach a hand up to rest on the back of his neck, your thumb caressing between his ear and the curve of his jaw. “Feyd, we weren’t trying to begin with.”
“Does that mean we shouldn’t?” he asks. “You are meant to be the mother of my heir.”
You sigh. “Feyd–”
“You are,” he demands, but you can detect his hidden plea. “You will be.”
—
They are scared of him—your son—or, at least, she is.
With your ear pressed against the door, you can hear them in the halls. Mother and son arguing over your value.
“Get rid of them, Paul, while you still can,” Lady Jessica implores him. “It’s in our best interest. You have no idea the kind of man she will raise that baby to be.”
But Paul has embraced his new role. There’s no hesitation in how he speaks to her anymore. His words are firm, but well-chosen. He truly was born to be a leader, just not the leader the Universe agreed on.
“The boy will one day be the Baron, and by then, he will have grown stronger than most, his father included,” Paul confirms. “But we only benefit from having that on our side. From Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen’s need for my sister, an alliance will be formed that could last decades, maybe centuries. But if you harm her, he will come at us in a way his House never has before. And if he finds out you also took his child from him then he’ll spend the rest of his life hunting you, me, Alia…Chani…your future grandchildren—he won’t stop.”
Paul sighs. You can picture him running his hand through his curly locks. He’s done that ever since he was a child. From the moment his little hand could reach above his head, his fingers would be playing with that hair. His mother scolded him wherever he did it in front of the other families of great Houses. ‘Makes you appear anxious,’ she would say, and no son of hers was permitted to come off as anything but respectable in front of their equals. She knew of the man he would one day become. But her nagging didn’t help him in the end.
“Paul, listen to m–”
“QUIET,” he commands in the Voice that seems to ripple through the halls. “You act as if I won that duel without effort. As if I could do it again in my sleep. But not only did he survive what should have killed him, he almost killed me,” he reminds her. “So do not let your hatred for my sister lead us down a vulnerable path.”
You pull your ear away from the door. How strange that you always knew she hated you and yet never heard it from anyone’s lips until now. You can’t say it hurts, but it does affirm that the only thing keeping you alive is the one thing you didn’t want to be: Feyd’s weakness. He’s saving you even though you’re out of reach. You and the baby he put inside of you.
You run your hand over your clothed stomach. There’s no physical evidence of your pregnancy, but now that you know he’s there you can feel him…somehow. You feel his strength. You feel his grit. You feel what Lady Jessica fears, and you love it. You hope she lives in fear for many years, always keeping one eye on the half-Harkonnen child that her son commanded her to spare.
The doorknob twists and you quickly back away as Paul steps into your bedroom. His brows pinch when he sees how you’re standing in the middle of the room. You’re not resting, you’re not admiring the scenery outside your window, there’s no book in your hand—you look suspicious. You can practically hear his thoughts. What were you doing, sister?
“It’s time to go,” he tells you, stepping closer. You don’t have a chance to reply before the command “SLEEP” weaves into your brain. Your eyes close. Your body goes limp into your brother’s arms. Your mind shuts down. You’re gone.
—
It’s bright. The inside of your eyelids are glowing the same orange shade as the flower your father traditionally gifted you on your birthday. It’s brighter than Caladan and Arrakis. A brightness you know only comes from Giedi Prime’s midday sun.
You're moving but not by your own feet. Your eyelids flutter to adjust to your surroundings, and when they open, you find yourself tucked against a chest. An Atreides soldier, once your father’s, now sworn to serve your brother.
“Put me down,” you mumble, but he doesn’t. “Put me down!”
“Put her down if she wants to be put down,” Paul says. “She won’t go anywhere. This is exactly where she wants to be.”
You’re set on your feet, but the soldier’s hand wraps around your bicep as the group comes to a halt. You do a quick glance around. Sixteen soldiers, suitably armed and shields activated. More on the ship likely, ready to attack if necessary. One Bene Gesserit bitch. One intended emperor with the skin of your brother. And you, anxiously awaiting him.
“Atreides!”
Feyd steps out of the Harkonnen fortress alone. He walks down the lengthy walkway alone. He has a blade at his hip, a shield, but no soldiers. You know they are somewhere, though, hiding, waiting for his call if needed.
As the distance between you lessens, tears attempt to blur your vision, but you blink them away. Your legs quiver, and you would collapse to your knees if not for the vice grip on your arm. He’s alive. He’s so beautifully alive. He’s broad, and strong, and he’s stomping toward your brother like a predator honing in on its prey. You didn't know for sure what he would look like after near death, and the last two weeks gave your mind the will to run wild, but he's perfect. Like it never happened.
“Paul, you must reconsider,” Lady Jessica whispers from behind him. “We do not need him.”
“I decide who and what we need,” he says. “My sister, my negotiations.”
She tips her head and steps back into place before shooting you a glare that you refuse to acknowledge.
Feyd is closing in, but his next step is deemed too close for Paul. Weapons are drawn. A blade presses into your neck. Feyd pauses.
“Give me what's mine, Atreides!” he snaps.
He’s seething and makes no attempt to hide it as he paces along the invisible line your brother has drawn. His brow is low, a shadow over the blue eyes piercing through Paul’s head. He hasn’t looked at you, but you know he won’t. Not directly. He already knows what your brother has over him and there’s no need to remind him by giving in to the internal panic he’s fighting.
“Yours?” Paul returns. “She’s not yours yet, Harkonnen, so it would be wise of you to cooperate.”
Feyd practically growls, pale lips splitting to reveal black teeth as Paul gestures for you to stand beside him. The soldier shoves you forward and you turn to smack at his wrist.
“I know how to walk,” you grumble. “Bastard.”
Paul clasps his hands behind his back. “You want her; that is understandable. She wants to be with you, too. You should have seen how she fell apart when she thought you were dead,” your brother taunts. His tongue clicks to make a tsking sound.
Feyd’s fingers twitch at his side, itching to grab the hilt of his knife. You know a layer of red bleeds across his vision. His thoughts are a jumble of demands bouncing around his skull. Kill. Maim. Destroy. Take what’s yours. But he can’t. And, excluding his uncle, Feyd hasn’t ever faced a situation where he can’t do as he pleases with whatever stands in front of him.
“Do not push him too far, Paul,” you mutter in warning. “He's not alone, either.”
Your brother ignores you, voice raising as he says, “And your son? You would like to have him as well, yes?”
The pacing stops. Feyd’s lips softly part. His eyes widen ever so slightly and he finally looks at you. When you lightly nod, his jaw clenches.
Paul doesn’t miss the silent communication. “So,” he says, lifting his chin a half-inch, “are we calm now?”
Feyd inhales a deep breath and huffs it out through his nose. He does it again and again, chest puffing out then deflating like an animal desperate to strike. ‘Calm’ isn't exactly how you would describe him—good, you expect nothing less—but he’s not displaying the same heightened level of fury.
“What do you want, Atreides?” Feyd grunts.
“Loyalty,” Paul doesn’t hesitate to answer. “You are my cousin. You love my half-sister and the two of you will share a child, assuming you can behave yourself. Family should inherently be loyal to family, I believe. That’s a fair place to start.”
“To start?” Feyd spits. “Do not play with me, cousin. Tell me all that you want from me now.”
Paul’s lips curve in a slight smile. The same modest smile he used when greeting guests of your father’s. You have your own version of that smile. They are smiles capable of hiding secrets. Like the smiles you would give Lady Jessica in front of your father, and the smile Paul gave Princess Irulan when he formally claimed her hand days after the duel.
However, there are no secrets behind the smile this time. He knows exactly what he wants from your lover and takes pleasure in revealing the totality of it.
“This war is just beginning,” Paul tells Feyd. “The other Houses reject my leadership. You will not. You will make a public declaration that the Harkonnens will fight for me, alongside the Fremen,” he says. “If you refuse to fulfill this, I will return with every fighter I have. My sister will be our primary target and you will fail to protect her…again.”
The disrespect lingers in the air. To force a Harkonnen to kneel to an Atreides is a power Feyd once told you only you possess. But it appears Paul has forced an unexpected exception.
“There's nothing for you to debate, I imagine,” Paul says. “Not when it comes to the woman you love and your child.”
Paul gives a winning smirk at your lover’s silence—Feyd’s glare is answer enough.
With a hand firmly on the center of your back, your brother guides you forward. “Go on,” he instructs. “There's no reason to keep him waiting.”
You turn your head back to Paul, expecting a trick, but when he nods in encouragement you rush over to Feyd in a light jog so as not to get tangled up in the skirts you can’t wait to tear off your body. A pale hand reaches out for you and curls around your waist when you’re close enough to be pulled against his chest. A kiss lands on your hairline before his forehead falls to rest on yours.
“You're not hurt?” he asks.
“I'm fine,” you promise him.
“This will never have to become complex, Harkonnen,” Paul calls from his side. Your heads raise to look at him. “Your House now fights for mine. If loyalty is upheld, personal lines will not be crossed. In other words, your child and woman are safe from me as long as my empress, concubine, and children are safe from you.”
Feyd’s Adam’s apple bobs harshly with his hard swallow; another practice in tamping down his rage.
“I’m glad we can all walk away from this satisfied,” Paul continues, grinning ear to ear. “Except for my mother, of course. Were she given her way, my sister would be cut open on the floor and her womb ripped out of her. She doesn’t believe a Harkonnen can exercise restraint and respect agreements. I’m sure you’ll prove her wrong.”
Your dress tightens at your waist from Feyd’s fingers fisting into the material. “Keep your head,” you gently whisper. “Let him go.”
“You have three days to officially announce your allegiance,” Paul tells the two of you before turning to his ship. He enters first, followed by his mother who gives you a final look of disapproval, and then, two-by-two, his soldiers. Not until they’re a speck in the sky does Feyd place a hand on your cheek, guide your face to his, and seal his lips to yours.
—
He intends to burn the dress to ash in the built-in incinerator that the Harkonnens consider a fireplace. Before now, you haven’t seen it demonstrate its purpose. Feyd refused. “We do not need that,” he would tell you, somewhat offended when you would request a bit more warmth in the middle of the night while he was next to you. He’d strip himself of any clothing he might’ve been wearing and tuck you into his side. “See? You’re fine now.”
Tonight, however, he’s quick to turn the thing on and let it heat up as he takes his knife to the back of your gown, slicing through the buttons that trace along your spine until the material slips off your body. He helps you out of the ring of destroyed fabric at your feet before wadding it into a ball and tossing it into the flames.
Feyd hums, satisfied, then piece by piece the armor falls from his form until he’s bare with his body to yours, his lips sucking and nibbling, fingers kneading and exploring, cock easing in and out of your core. You cry as he bites into your neck, and soak in the moment for what it is compared to what it could have been had he not survived. How alone you would be. How distraught over what would become of you.
But he did survive. He’s here. You have him. His lips and teeth and touch and cock and heart—all yours. You have the warmth of his breath that brushes your face and neck and shoulders. You have his groans and moans; the perfect sounds he makes when he first enters you and when he cums. Everything you thought you’d lost is wrapped tightly in your arms. Safe. Protected.
He finishes inside of you twice, and as he begs for one more, the ache between your thighs tempts you to remind him he already got you pregnant. But when you study the tenderness in his eyes, your desire refreshes, the pain washes away, and you can’t get enough. You take until he can no longer give—when all he has the energy for is holding and kissing.
Feyd leans over you in the bed, your legs intertwined under the sheets and his hand at the back of your head as his mouth moves with yours.
“W-Wait,” you say between kisses. He hums against your lips and when you tilt your head back, he makes a noise of protest before joining them again. “I-I’m ser-ious.”
With his brow pinched, he pulls back to stare into your eyes. “What’s wrong?”
You worry your bottom lip between your teeth as you search for a delicate way to question the effectiveness of his new authority. “Feyd, what’s going to happen? What will everyone think?” you ask. “Your people? Your soldiers?”
“That’s what bothers you right now while in this bed with me?” You nod. He sighs. “I observed my uncle in his time as Baron. I’m capable of explaining these changes in a manner that will have them think nothing of it. Should an outlier take issue, they will face the known consequences. The rest will do as I command,” he says, emphasizing his words with another kiss. “Just as they will do as you command and as our son will one day command.”
You shake your head. “Don’t be silly. No one on Giedi Prime will listen to me,” you tell him. “My voice doesn’t mean anything to them.”
“They'll respect the voice of their Baroness.”
Your brows raise. “Your wife?”
Feyd smirks and dips his head into the curve of your neck to lick and suck at sensitive skin. “Do you have objections, my love?”
It would be a lie to say you haven’t imagined being Feyd’s wife. It didn’t occupy your every thought, but it crossed your mind. Like when he would pluck out the eyes of the men who leered at you or remove the tongues of those who scoffed when you spoke. Or when you would watch him sleep and his face was unable to maintain the hard, stony stare that he brought back with him after dealing with his uncle. He’d be serene, the epitome of peace, and it was so lovely that sometimes you couldn’t help yourself. You would kiss his puffy lips until he woke to reciprocate, which led to him spreading your legs wide and stuffing his hard column of flesh between your folds. His ability to be gentle in his cruel world was how you knew he would be a good husband—to you, anyway. You have no idea the fate of his marriage were there a different bride.
His tongue runs over the bite mark and you gasp. “N-No.”
Lips trail along your jawline as his hand slides from the base of your neck between the valley of your breasts to settle on your stomach.
“He'll be strong,” Feyd says, looking at you. “Our boy.”
You chuckle. “Stronger than you, I heard.”
Feyd swallows, then nods in acceptance. “Good. He’ll need to be,” he says, thumb stroking just above your navel. “The only Atreides my son will answer to is his mother.”

Hey
Hope you get rid of this writers block soon ✨
How about hand holding no 34 with Wanda 🥺
Wanda Maximoff x Reader
prompt: holding hands while driving | warnings: none.
When you suggested taking the lead, it had much more to do with the crestfallen witch in the front seat than the retired Avenger's possible fatigue from driving for a few hours. Don't let Barton hear you say that.
Wanda gave you a brief smile as you took the driver's seat, and unfortunately, your attempt at conversation ended up being disastrous because you simply didn't know what to say to her.
Losing her country, and her brother, and growing up in a civil war only to be dragged from battle to battle her whole life doesn't seem like something you can fix, no matter how many bad jokes you say to try to make her smile. Still, you think you should keep trying. Because Wanda is so special, she's so sweet and clever, and you enjoy her company so much. She deserved all the good things life had to offer, even if she didn't believe it.
You end up getting so distracted by your own thoughts that you don't notice that Wanda has been stealing glances in your direction for a good few minutes until she finally calls you.
"Huh, sorry, I was distracted." You mumble, glancing at her quickly before focusing on the road again. "We'll be there in the morning if you're wondering."
She's looking at you funny. Maybe you mumbled something. It wouldn't be the first time you've let your thoughts slip away. It doesn't recall you that Wanda didn't need you to speak to know what you were thinking, and focused on the road, you didn't notice the brief red flash of her eyes either.
"I wasn't." She retorts, perhaps more harshly than she'd like. You don't know, but Wanda hates how she's a disaster whenever she tries to talk to you. But still, you never seem to mind her clumsiness. You laugh weakly, nodding. She uncrosses her arms, her nervous fingers gripping the seat. "I mean... this trip isn't so bad. And I wouldn't mind staying in the car a little longer."
You hum thoughtfully, clicking your tongue afterward. "I get it, I guess. The car feels safe, right? While we're here, no one on the team is fighting, nothing is falling apart. It's calm. It almost feels like... well, just a trip between friends." The tables have turned a bit, and now it's Wanda who feels the sudden urge to comfort you. You, who have been nothing but kind and considerate, who are watching your entire family fall apart because of a mistake she made in Lagos, even though everyone keeps telling her it wasn't her fault.
"Maybe we should stay here." She murmurs, and at the same time, you both glance in the rearview mirror, where Clint and Scott are sleeping in the backseat. "Maybe we could just not leave."
"We already left, Wands." You sigh sadly. One of your hands goes to the gearshift, there's a small curve in the road. "I did it, in Berlin, when I refused to fight my brother. And you did it, when you agreed to leave the Tower and get in this car." You say, one hand resting on the seat. "Maybe it's finally time for us to be proud of our choices and start standing up for what we believe in. Not just as a team, but as individuals." She knows you're talking about the accords, but she doesn't want to think about it again. Because for the past few weeks, everything has been a mess and within a few hours, she has the feeling that there won't be any more Avengers. So Wanda stops squeezing the seat and decides to squeeze your hand instead. You look at her immediately, before turning your attention back to the road. She makes a motion of pulling away, seeing your shoulders tense, but you adjust your grip to intertwine your fingers together. Her heart skips two beats in a row, but even with her voice cracking, she speaks; "You're right. We should honor our choices. And our feelings." There's a soft blush on her cheeks, which when you notice it in the rearview mirror, spreads to yours.
You nod in agreement and don't let go of her hand anymore.

SKZ! FAKE TEXTS: Felix Make Up
Chan | Minho | Changbin | Hyunjin | Jisung | Seungmin | Jeongin | Part 1
You feel your blood boil as you force the door open, a scowl on your face as you glare at Felix. He stood there tears streaming down his cheeks as his eyes widened in surprise. "Love...." He sighs as he wraps his arms around your waist. His head rests on your shoulder as he inhales your scent. The smell of his best friend, Sooji's perfume still all over him. The entire night was an epic fail.
What was supposed to be a fun night at the fair, became a nightmare. Let alone your boyfriend forgetting the purpose of the date in the first place. You couldn't understand how he could be so amazing but the second Sooji came around, he dropped everything for her. How could you get over this? You felt you could deal with a third wheel on your anniversary date. Felix works a lot he doesn't have much time to hang out with you often let alone his best friend. But you couldn't stand that you became the third wheel for a night you were paying for in the first place. You felt stupid, you paid for her tickets, meals, and prizes. You spoiled your now ex-boyfriend's side chick. Like an idiot. and he had the nerve to show up only minutes after you arrived home? He had the nerve to act like what they did wasn't wrong and touch you?
"Get off of me" You grit as you shove him slightly. You hear Felix whimper as his grip tightens. You can feel his head shake a resounding no. "Now. Lee Yongbok" You growl. Felix begins sobbing harshly into your shoulder. "No! Please! please...I'll do anything! Please don't make me let you go. Please don't make me leave....." He pleads. His body trembles as he continues to sob and beg.
"Do you even know what you did?"
He stares at you dumbfounded. "I-I.....uhm...I-I...." He stammers as he pulls away slightly. You use the opportunity to free yourself from his grasp and close the door behind you. "Felix, you love Sooji. You should be with her...." You state with a sad sigh. He shakes his head in denial "N-No! No that's not true. I'm sorry if I made you believe that but I swear, it's not true. I love you. Y/F/N. That's who I love. that's who I want to be with. I'm so fucking sorry but please...please believe me. i just made a mistake. I should have realized today was important and that she shouldn't have come—You think that's the problem?" You cut him off. "You think I care more that Sooji came and not the fact that you made me bankroll your little date with Sooji on our anniversary? You think her presence was the problem and not the fact that you treat her more like your girlfriend when she's around and if you don't she throws a fucking fit?"
"I-I don't know what to say....I-I didn't realize—of course you didn't. you only care about how Sooji feels. You only care about Sooji" You cut him off again "Please leave. go be with her I'm tired of being your second choice."
"You're not! stop saying that I like Sooji; I don't. I love you, I pity Sooji. Thats all! i don't want to be with her. Im sorry, I'm so fucking sorry. I shouldn't have behaved like that with her. I'm sorry I made you misunderstand me but please know that the only person I want to be with is you. I'll do anything to fix this please let me fix this....." He argues, his voice cracking as he finishes his plea. He stares at you with a fear-stricken expression when you don't say anything. His hand holds yours as he sniffles. "It's my fault. I should have been better, you can be mad at me as long as you want. I-if you want to hit me that's okay.....just please, please give me a chance to fix this. I won't talk to her ever again. I won't make you uncomfortable with any more friendships. Please give me a chance...."
"I don't know, Felix....."
"I can make this up to you. you know I can. please just let me come in and we can talk. That's all I want is to talk, please..."
“What do you want me to do, Felix? Pretend I didn’t come out of the bathroom and see you guys all over each other? Pretend you didn’t show more interest in her than me? Pretend that you don't really want to be with me?”
“Stop fucking saying that!” He growls angrily as his palm slams into your door frame forcefully. His face was red as rage boiled over in his stomach "Sooji is someone I fucking pity. I feel bad for her because she was abandoned by her family. I felt like I'd be an asshole if I just ditched her too but I don't feel shit for her. I love you just fucking listen to me for once! Yes, I fucked up. but she doesn't mean what you do. She's not close to your level in my eyes so fucking stop" He growls. You flinch as he raises his voice. For a moment, he was almost unrecognizable. You had heard that he could be temperamental on occasion but you had never witnessed his anger firsthand. You look toward your neighbor's house. His hand caresses your cheek. "Look at me...." He urges, and you shake your head "You really hurt me...."
"I'll spend every day making it up to you."
"I can't trust you..."
"You can....but I-I understand why you feel like you can't. But Y/N please know, I would never do anything like this again. If my friendship with Sooji makes you uncomfortable then I won't be friends with her anymore. I won't talk to her or see her anymore....." He stammers nervously, his voice trembling slightly with fear. "I'm not the type of person to dictate your friendships, Felix. and I don't want to be with someone who doesn't know how to draw a line or notice when someone is being too much. Like if I had a guy friend that treated me the way you treat Sooji. Would that make you feel comfortable? Would you have faith in our relationship after catching me in the situation I caught you in tonight?" You question softly, nervous about his answer. You finally turn to look at him and notice the way his jaw is clenched. His free hand balled into a fist at his side, eyes closed as his anger and jealousy were painted on his expression.
"T-That's different...."
"Why? because its me? " You snide.
"No! Because I didn't even realize how it looked until now. I thought I was just being a supportive friend! I didn't mean for it to look like anything inappropriate was going on. I don't like her like that, I love you. I want to be with you. If you're so sure I don't love you then why am I here?" He argues. He steps closer to you. your chests now pressed together, as he leans in closer his lips brushing over yours. "Why am I here fighting you on this?" He whispers. You stare into his eyes feeling his sincerity. "I-I—Because—" He cut you off with a passionate kiss before you could argue. You stand frozen for a moment before your arms wrap around his neck and your lips move against his. "I love you" he whispers infatuatedly as his lips continue to move against yours. His hands gripping your waist as he pulls you closer to him. Your cheeks are a bright scarlet as he repeats the phrase over and over as he presses your back against your front door. "I'm so sorry for hurting you, My love." He kisses you softly again. "I'll make it up to you I promise. please forgive me?"
You pull away, your breath heavy and your lips swollen. Felix stared at you like a kicked puppy as you made space between you. "I'm not gonna let you off this easy....." you mumble "You better work your ass off to make this up to me..." You cross your arms, and a bright smile forms on Felix's lips as he pulls you into a bone-crushing hug. "Thank you! You won't regret this I swear! I promise you, I'll make this up to you." He smiles as he rests his forehead on yours. "Starting tonight!" He states excitedly as he pulls away slightly, lifts you over his shoulder, and playfully rushes into the house as you laugh at his antics.

April 2030
UConn 84 Notre Dame 82
The blue and white section of the Moda Center crowd erupts in cheers as the final buzzer rings through the stadium. Confetti rains down on the court as the UConn Huskies are crowned national champions once again. Paige’s scream is drowned out by KK’s louder whoop as the two of them excitedly wrap their arms around each other, jumping up and down like they’re college students all over again.
“Oh okay, love the inclusion,” Ice rolls her eyes but it morphs into a grin as her former teammates pull her into their group hug, all three of them making a ruckus that’s drowned out by the crowd around them roaring in excitement.
“Can y’all be a little quieter. I’m tryna mourn my Irish in peace,” Sonia says lousily, glaring at them in irritation as she fiddles with her clover bracelet.
“Oh cheer up Citron,” Paige teases her Wings teammate, “at least y’all finally made it back to the Final Four.”
“Fuck all the way off Bueckers-”
“GO HUSKIES,” a loud voice interrupts Sonia’s grumbling as Jana rushes into their section, the Valkyries center smiling vibrantly as she crashes into her old friends, “BLEED BLUE BABY!”
“Bleed blue!” the three UConn faithful chorus back as Sonia glumly saunters over to Maddy Westbeld who had come over with Jana, the two Fighting Irish alum sharing a commiserating hug.
“This is why everyone finds you Huskies insufferable,” Maddy says with disgust.
“Because we just keep winning? There, there little leprechauns,” Ice taunts, light-heartedly patting Maddy and Sonia’s heads as both of them bristle and flash the Wings forward with a synchronized middle finger, “I’m sure you’ll catch up to us never.”
Paige is about to join in on the ribbing when KK turns to Jana with a frown, “where’s Azzi? I thought all of y’all came together.”
She shouldn’t care this much anymore. It’s been five years and Paige thinks it’s a little ridiculous how quickly her ears perks up at the mention of her girlfriend, thinks it’s a little pathetic how she leans in closer to Jana, embarrassingly eager to hear the answer to KK’s question.
“We did. She wanted to go call her parents to check on Stephie,” Jana explains.
KK rolls her eyes, her face as disappointed as Paige feels, “of course she did.”
“What’s that supposed to mean,” Jana narrows her eyes at the shorter woman, a protective edge to her tone.
“It means that this avoidance bullshit Azzi’s on is pretty fucking tired,” KK sneers.
“KK bro chill,” Ice steps in immediately, looking worriedly between her two friends as Jana’s eyes flash with fire.
“She’s checking on her daughter KK. She’s not trying to avoid anything,” Jana’s quietness is in stark contrast with the loud cheers around them and Paige swallows the guilt clawing at her throat. This is their fault. Her and Azzi’s. They’d caused an earthquake in their own lives and the aftershocks had rippled throughout their friends and families, creating rubble where there had once been solid foundations.
KK laughs bitterly, “she had to check on her daughter right now? The game ended like three fucking seconds ago and she couldn’t just wait?”
“You’re being unfair.”
“Why are you always defending her?”
“Because she’s my teammate and it’s not all her fault,” Jana spits out, eyes briefly darting towards Paige who digs her fingernails into her palm, “it’s not her fault that she doesn’t always feel welcome around certain people.”
“And how about the rest of us people who’d really like to see her once in a while?” hurt tinges in KK’s words, “she can’t put the other shit aside for one fucking second?”
Jana opens her mouth, ready to defend her Azzi again but before she can speak, a calm voice cuts in, “hi guys.”
Goosebumps rush up Paige’s arms as she takes in the sight of the ex-girlfriend. There’s nothing extravagant to Azzi’s outfit, a simple UConn sweatshirt paired with black ripped jeans and minimal jewelry but she looks as radiant as always. There’s an awkward tension in the air as Azzi warily takes in the way KK and Jana are still glaring at each other. Her eyes accidentally lock with Paige and the blonde can see the same guilt of this is our collateral damage reflected back in those dark brown orbs.
“Hi Azzi,” Ice is the first one to break the silence, wrapping the Valkyries shooting guard in a hug, “how’s Stephanie?”
Paige watches as Azzi’s eyes light up at the mention of her daughter's name, all of her previous apprehension gone as she begins to gush about the little girl, “she’s good. Somehow manipulated my dad into letting her stay up past her bedtime but good. She’s only two years old but already such a damn menace,” the brunette’s gaze wanders over to KK, “I guess that was to be expected huh? Any child of mine was bound to be one.”
KK cracks a half smile, bumping her shoulder against Jana’s as a truce sign, “you call it being menace, we call it being smart as hell right El Alfy?”
“Dude that’s what I tell her every time,” Jana immediately accepts the white flag, slinging an arm around the shorter woman, “Azzi just has genius children. Me, you, Nés and now Stephie.”
Ice gawks at the two of them, “seriously?”
“Well you see Ice, statistically she can’t have all genius children. Someone needed to be average,” KK mocks, high-fiving a giggling Jana.
“Are y’all seeing this bullying?” Ice rounds on Paige and Azzi, hands on her hips with dramatically wide eyes, “are y’all really gonna let them bully your favorite child like this?”
“We don’t have favorites,” Paige and Azzi say at the same, pausing abruptly at the resurgence of familiar synchronicity between them. They glance briefly at each other, shuffling nervously, before immediately looking away.
“I hate all of y’all,” Ice pouts, petulantly folding her arms against her chest.
“Aw cheer up Icey,” Jana pats the top of Ice’s head, “how about a round of shots at the hotel bar to cheer you up?” she turns to Maddy and Sonia, who’d been having their own conversation, with a devilish grin, “losing team’s paying.”
“Y’all are sore winners,” Maddy huffs.
Paige’s eyes dart towards Azzi, waiting for the younger woman to come up with a shallow excuse like she usually does to get out of having to spend more time with the blonde than necessary. And she knows that it’s unfair of her, knows that it’s only natural for someone to actively avoid being stuck in the same place as their past -thinks only a fool like her could want to be in their ex’s presence- but every time Azzi escapes being around her, Paige can’t help the disappointment that curls in her stomach.
“Y’all coming,” KK asks, a slight edge to her voice as she twists to look at Paige and Azzi.
“Of course,” Paige grins, locking arms with Sonia who immediately groans, “I’m not passing up free drinks. Especially not when the Irish are paying.”
“Az?” KK’s eyes are hopeful.
Azzi bites her lip and Paige can almost see the cogs turning in her brain before she schools her features into a soft smile, “yeah. I’ll come.”
***
Paige isn’t sure how it happens. Well actually, that’s not quite right. She definitely has an idea of how it happened. She’s not quite sure when KK, Ice and Jana had had time to devise the plan but she’s certain that’s how it happened. Because really, there’s no other reasonable explanation for how she and Azzi have ended up being the only two people, from their previous party of seven, that are still sitting at the bar. Maddy and Sonia had left first, muttering under their breaths about not wanting to be around insufferable winners. Ice had been the next to leave, making up an excuse about how she wanted to call her boyfriend. Then Jana had apparently needed the bathroom. When she hadn’t returned in a solid 15 minutes, it was KK’s turn. A barely disguised grin and a hard-to-believe lie of I think Jana got lost, I should go help her on her lips as she’d excused herself to the sound of Paige and Azzi’s protests.
The two of them sit in awkward silence for a bit until Azzi suddenly bursts out laughing, the corner of her eyes crinkling. Paige regards her with amusement, trying to ignore the way the sound of the younger woman laughing feels like hearing her favorite song come on in the car on a warm summer road trip.
“You’re a little young to be going crazy,” she remarks.
“Shut up,” Azzi rolls her eyes, lightly punching Paige’s shoulder, “it’s just- they’re still all really shitty liars.”
Paige laughs, “and they still come up with the dumbest plans.”
“Do you remember when they locked us in the Werth changing rooms when we had that stupid fight-”
“Hey,” Paige interrupts indignantly, “it wasn’t stupid-”
“It was definitely stupid-”
“You asked Carol to drive you to rehab instead of me.”
“Because you had practice at the same time.”
“I wouldn’t have minded being five minutes late to practice.”
Azzi snorts, “more like half an hour and you sure as shit wouldn’t have been fine when coach would have yelled at you and made you run suicides after.”
“I wouldn’t have cared,” Paige shrugs, “running suicides would have been worth it for an extra hour with you.”
Azzi stares at her, mouth opening and closing several times before she finally looks away, a soft sigh falling from her lips, “you’re doing it again.”
“I’m not doing anything,” Paige says, unable to keep the defensiveness from creeping into her words.
“You are,” Azzi slips off the barstool, “you are and you don’t even know it.”
“Azzi,” Paige curls her hand around the other woman’s bicep, pulling her in to stop her from leaving and it’s a bad idea because now they’re too close and her heartbeat quickens immediately at the fact that if she leaned in just a little bit more, there would be no more space left between them, “what am I doing?”
“You’re- you-” Azzi stutters, gulping as her eyes briefly flicker down to Paige’s lips, “you’re making me feel.”
“Making you feel what?” Paige presses.
For a second, Paige thinks Azzi might just give in to her heart, might just tell the truth but then something hardens in her face, and the next word that slips out of her mouth has both of them going rigid, “how’s your wife Paige?”
“Az-”
“I should go to bed,” Azzi says firmly, trying to wriggle out of Paige’s tightening grip.
“Azzi-”
“I have an early flight and I should probably wake up a little earlier than I normally would cause you know Jana’s gonna need me to wake her up,” Azzi rambles still trying to twist her arm out of Paige’s hold.
“Hold on-”
“Can you just let go of me-”
“I’m trying to tell-”
“I really need to get to bed-’
“Az-”
“I have to go-”
“Azzi I’m getting a divorce,” Paige bursts out; the admission feels light a heavy weight off her chest.
Azzi stops fighting against the blonde’s grip, “oh.”
“We’ve- um-” Paige’s throat feels dry as Azzi’s eyes continue to bore into her, “we’ve been separated for a while and I finally-uh- finally filed the papers a little while ago. So um- to your question- I uh- I don’t know how she is because I- I don’t- there uh- there isn’t- there isn’t a wife.”
There’s silence for a bit as Azzi’s head bops up and down as she processes Paige’s revelation, “I’m um-” she clears her throat, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. It’s not like it’s your fault,” and that’s not completely true -not when Olivia had repeatedly thrown the past back in Paige’s face- but she doesn’t think Azzi needs to know that, doesn’t want the younger woman to feel guilty for things beyond her control. She’s confused when Azzi flinches, like a memory has just pinched her nerves.
“Right,” Azzi bites, “I really should- I really should be going to bed.”
Something gloomy settles across Paige’s heart as she nods at the brunette’s words, slipping out of her own chair as they start walking towards the elevator in the lobby. She feels antsy, like she’s leaving something incomplete. The silence rings loud between them as they wait for the elevator doors to open, keeping as much distance as they can from each other. It feels like ages before the familiar ding! finally rings out around them. Despite the abundance of room inside, the doorway into the elevator is rather condensed and their shoulders brush against each other as they make their way inside. Audible sighs involuntarily roll off of their tongues at the brief second of contact as they both shiver from each other’s familiar touch. There’s enough space now that they could easily move away -they probably should move away- but instead they stay pressed together. The sound of their uneven breathing fills the elevator as the doors close in front of them.
“I’m uh- I’m on the third floor,” Azzi says as she presses the #3 button, “you?”
“Fifth,” Paige breathes out, eyes fixated on the goosebumps that appear on the back of Azzi’s neck as her hands shake while pushing the #5 button.
The elevator jolts up and Paige immediately reaches for Azzi’s hips to steady her, eliciting a small gasp from the other woman. She waits for Azzi to move away but the brunette stays put and Paige doesn’t move her hands.
The doors open on the third floor. Both of them suck in a sharp breath.
Azzi doesn’t get out.
***
Paige wakes up to the dreadful sound of her alarm clock blaring around her room. It takes a second before the memories of last night start pounding against her skull. Her body aches in the best way possible. The room is still dark -just like it had been last night- and she closes her eyes, trying to revisit the feeling of Azzi’s lips pressed against her forehead, right before the younger woman -with her hair disheveled and bitemarks littered across her jawline- had left Paige’s room.
Paige hadn’t asked Azzi to stay. She wonders if she should have; wonders if Azzi would have agreed if she’d asked. But she hadn’t asked and Azzi hadn’t stayed. She regrets it a little bit. She wonders if Azzi does too. And Paige thinks that maybe that’s just the melancholic truth about their tragic story.
Maybe they’re destined to always regret.

April 2033
Paige thinks Azzi’s guest room air conditioning must be broken or something. There’s no other explanation for why, despite having kicked off every single blanket, she feels like she’s tossing and turning in red hot lava. She feels restless, like she has a purpose that she’s leaving unfulfilled. All the different scenes from tonight are rushing through her head, but her heart keeps stuttering on the last one; an image of the way Azzi had looked at her before they’d kissed good night.
Azzi had asked her to stay even if she’d hidden it under a lame disguise of it being too late and Paige being too angry to drive home alone. And it’s not completely false that her blood is still boiling, their little encounter with fucking asshole still dangerously lingering in her mind as she thinks of the 101 ways she would have liked to murder him. But they both know that the minute Azzi had run her hand down Paige’s back, the moment she’d called her baby, the moment she’d given her the reassurance she was too scared to ask for but needed desperately, Paige had felt all the anger in her body replaced by that familiar sense of calm only Azzi had ever been able to provide.
And after that had been decided, they’d both hesitated in the hallway, looking back and forth between Azzi’s master bedroom and the guestroom. Paige doesn’t know what had possessed her, why she’d decided tonight of all nights to play this false chivalrous rule-abiding good girl persona when it was the last thing she wanted to do. Because the last couple of weeks had been hell. The stupid rules had been hell. Going slow had been hell. Having to pull away from Azzi and walk out the door every night when all she wanted to was to lose herself in the brunette’s arms had been hell. But she’d done it for Azzi. She’d done it because there isn’t a thing in the world that she wouldn’t do for Azzi. Except tonight had been different. There had been that look on Azzi’s face -the way the younger woman had bitten her lips, the way her eyes had been hooded over, the way her cheeks had been flushed as her gaze roamed over Paige’s body- and it had morphed into one of pure disappointment when Paige had said she’d take the guestroom.
You’re a fucking idiot Paige Bueckers, she thinks to herself as she bolts right up, the image finally burning a little too bright behind her eyelids to continue this façade of trying to sleep. Perhaps it’s pointless. It’s late and Azzi loves her sleep; there’s no way she’s awake. But Paige slides out of bed anyways, breathing unevenly as she turns on the nightlight and walks towards her door. She doesn’t have a plan, doesn’t have any idea what she’d even say if Azzi is, by some miracle of god, even awake. But fuck it, Paige needs to see this through. She pauses at the door, hands wrapping around the cold handle as she gives herself one more chance to back out. Really, she doesn’t even know why she’s so nervous. It’s Azzi. Her Azzi.
Paige twists the handle to tug the door open.
Azzi’s eyes widen in surprise, her fisted hand -that had clearly been raised to knock on the mahogany door- freezing in place as she swallows and Paige is mesmerized by the way it highlights the veins in her neck. Her eyes move downwards, fixating on where Azzi’s oversized t-shirt hangs looser on one-side, leaving her right shoulder and collarbone on display. The shirt right above her thighs, giving Paige the perfect display of Azzi’s toned long legs looming beneath and the blonde gulps at the sight.
“Hi,” Azzi speaks first, the low graveliness in her tone causing a coil of want to wrap itself around Paige’s stomach.
“Hey,” Paige whispers back, “couldn’t sleep?”
Azzi bites her lip, “no- I just uh-, people always say- like when Jana sleeps over or something- she always says that- that the guest room is um- it’s too cold so I just- I wanted to make sure- wanted to ask-” she clears her throat, taking a step forward as she look earnestly at Paige, “are you cold?”
“So cold,” Paige confirms, moving closer to Azzi so their chests are almost touching.
“You could um-” Azzi licks her teeth, “you could stay in Stephie’s room-”
“I could?” Paige asks, pressing herself flush against the younger woman, hands wrapping around her waist. There’s barely space for air between them but she wants to get closer, wants to stitch herself into Azzi’s skin and keep them intertwined forever.
“You could but,” Azzi’s hand trails Paige’s biceps, causing the blonde to shiver, before finally interlocking around her neck, “I think- I think her bed might be a little small for you.”
“Way too small,” Paige breathes against Azzi’s skin as she nips at the brunette’s jawline, before ghosting her lips against her neck, leaving a trail of mine mine mine down her throat.
“Paige,” Azzi’s voice is breathless as she tilts her head, hissing when Paige bites harshly right above her collarbone, immediately soothing it with her tongue, “I think- I think-fuck” she cuts herself with a moan as Paige turns them around, maneuvering them back towards the bed that suddenly looks far more inviting then it had before, “I just think-”
“You think too much,” Paige says softly, finally removing her lips from Azzi’s skin -she misses the taste of it immediately- so she can smile teasingly at the brunette.
“Do I?” Azzi grins dopily.
Paige rolls her eyes, continuing to walk them backwards, “way, way too much.”
They’re forced to a halt when the back of Azzi’s thighs collide against the backframe of the bed. It feels like a turning point, like they could unlock a new chapter or keep themselves on the one they’re already on. And while Paige would really to skip forward, she’ll be okay with whatever happens next as long as the story being written is still theirs, still about her and Azzi.
“Paige,” Azzi whispers again -and Paige loves the way Azzi’s lips curl around the syllable of her name- as she bunches the blonde’s shirt in her hands, “make me stop thinking.”
“Whatever you want baby,” Paige promises before they both go tumbling into the mattress, their lips colliding in a heated kiss. It feels like they’re trying to meld themselves into each other, like their bodies are carving out an indent of you and i just always feel right against the bedsheets.
“I want this off,” Azzi breathes out between kisses, hands lifting the edge of Paige’s shirt, “off, off, off.”
“So bossy,” Paige smirks, leaning up off of Azzi to take off her shirt in a tantalizingly slow manner, enjoying the way the brunette’s eyes darken as they glide across her abs first and then her breasts, “enjoying the sho- fuck Az.”
The words are stolen from her mouth as Azzi swirls her tongue around one erect nipple, her hands cupping Paige’s ass to balance the blonde on top of her. She’s always known exactly how to get Paige to shut the fuck up. Paige groans as Azzi flips them over, shifting herself to press her thigh in between Paige’s legs and the blonde can’t help but grind up against it, desperate for some much needed friction, as Azzi sucks a possessive bruise against her jaw.
“Missed this,” Azzi whispers, as she kisses down Paige’s neck, “and this,” a kiss pressed against her collarbone, “and these,” Azzi presses her lips softly to each breast, “and this,” against Paige’s stomach, “and these,” two featherlight kisses are peppered against her hip bones, “and I really missed these.”
“Azzi,” Paige moans as the brunette’s lips glide across the inside of her thighs, taking her sweet time marking only i could ever make you feel like this against every inch of Paige’s skin.
Azzi stops right above the edge of Paige’s boxers before slowly peeling them off as sparkling brown eyes staring up at her with a myriad of unspoken emotions that Paige could spend a lifetime trying to memorize, “missed all of this. Missed everything about you. Missed you so much baby.”
Vulnerability echoes in Azzi’s voice as she slowly moves herself back up, hands coming to cup Paige’s face as they press their foreheads together. And it’s not like she hadn’t known that Azzi must have missed her in these last couple of years. But there’s a part of Paige that had thought that there was no way Azzi could have missed her as much as she missed Azzi. Because missing Azzi had felt all consuming, like there was a constant noose around her neck that got tighter and tighter with every day that passed by. But there’s something about the way the words reverberate around the room, something about the way Azzi looks like she can finally breathe again after saying it out loud that it hits Paige; it hits her that they’ve both been suffocating without each other.
“I missed you too,” she breathes out, tears pooling at the edge of her eyes, “missed you so fucking much Azzi.”
“Yeah?” Azzi whispers, lips catching the lone tear that falls from Paige’s eyes, “how much?”
Paige shudders as Azzi’s fingers teasingly ghost over her wet folds, “s-so much. Azzi please. Need it so bad. Need you so bad.”
“Whatever you want baby,” Azzi repeats Paige’s own words back to her before she finally gives her what she’s desperately been craving, two fingers rhythmically pumping in and out of her pussy as her thumb rubs circles against Paige’s clit.
“Fuck, fuck, just like that-” a litany of curses waterfall from Paige’s lips as she bucks her hips up against Azzi’s hand, “fuck please.”
“Please what?” Azzi asks coyly, fingers moving at a faster face as she hides a grin against Paige’s neck, “gotta tell me what you want baby.”
“W-want your mouth please- please Azzi-baby please,” Paige begs, writhing underneath her when Azzi immediately complies, lips attaching to her clit as she adds another finger, “fuck Azzi- I’m so close.”
“I know baby,” the words vibrate against Paige’s core, sending another bout of ecstasy shooting up her spine as she feels that familiar buildup in her stomach.
“Azz I’m gonna-”
“I know. Let go baby. I’ve got you. I’m gonna catch you I promise,” Azzi whispers.
And it’s those words, that promise, that sends Paige over the edge, a cry of Azzi’s name falling from her lips. Because she knows Azzi means them for a lot more than just this moment, that those words -the promise- are born out of something deeper than lust. And maybe neither of them are quite ready to acknowledge that yet, not ready to make vows that teeter dangerously close to the ones they watched themselves break in the past, but it lingers between them, like a string made of we’ve always been inevitable connecting their hearts to each other.
Azzi slowly eases her fingers out of Paige, pressing open-mouthed kisses against the older woman’s stomach as she recovers from her high, before looking up at her with a smirk. Never breaking eye contact, Azzi slips her fingers into her own mouth, leisurely sucking at them as she watches Paige’s face contort with desire.
“Was I good?” she asks teasingly and Paige growls.
“How have you gotten better at that? Actually you know what never mind,” Paige shakes her head, “I don’t want to know that.”
Azzi laughs, hiding her face against Paige’s neck, “only that good for you.”
“Good,” Paige tightens her arms around the woman on top of her and then scrunches her face as she feels the material of Azzi’s shirt itch against her wrists, “well this is unfair.”
“What is?” Azzi hum backs.
“I’m fully fucking naked and you haven’t taken a single thing off,” Paige grumbles as she coaxes Azzi’s face out of her neck, hands gripping the edge of her shit, “take this off.”
Azzi stills, her previous serene expression replaced by something more nervous, as she lifts herself up so she’s straddling the older woman’s hips, “Paige-”
“What’s wrong?” Paige’s senses are on high alert immediately as she rises up herself, maneuvering them so Azzi’s fully on her lap.
“I just-,” Azzi draws in a deep breath, looking downwards as she chews her lips.
“Hey,” Paige whispers, lifting the younger woman’s chin back up before pressing their foreheads together, “talk to me baby.”
“Can we just-” Azzi plays with the end of Paige’s hair, “can we maybe just-” she cocks her head towards the nightlight on the desk, “do you think we could turn the light off?”
“What?” Paige asks confusedly, “Azzi I’ve seen you naked-”
“Not since- not since I had Stephie,” Azzi interrupts, cowering under Paige’s intense stare, “the lights- the lights were off that one time and the other time I don't think- I don’t think we were sober enough for me to care or for you to remember so can we just-”
“Azzi,” Paige cups the younger woman’s face, “baby there is no amount of alcohol in the world that could make me forget you. Trust me I’ve tried,” she slips her hand under Azzi’s shirt, caressing the skin underneath, “but every time I see you baby, I memorize every little part of you,” she dances her fingertips across where she remembers those stretch marks -the ones Azzi is so afraid of her seeing again- are littered across her stomach, “and whether I’m sober or drunk or something in between, I always think every little bit of you is perfect.”
“Paige,” Azzi says softly, something akin to awe coating her voice.
“Just wanna make you feel as good as you made me feel baby. Please,” Paige wraps her fingers around the edge of Azzi’s shirt again, “can I?”
“Okay,” Azzi concedes quietly, lifting her arms so Paige can finally tug the offending shirt off.
Paige gives herself a moment to look at the woman in front of her, the woman whose body she’s seen countless times yet she swears that it feels like a different adventure every time. And then she lets herself have a taste, running her tongue lazily across Azzi’s skin, as she slowly maneuvers them so she can hover above the younger woman. A soft smile flitter across her face as she rubs her fingers over the tattoo printed across Azzi’s ribcage. It’s a purple S tattoo, with butterfly wings fanning out on either side. For Stephie.
Keeping her eyes trained on the darker-skinned , she brushes her lips across the stretch marks on the darker-skinned woman’s abdomen and she hopes that Azzi can read the all of your imperfections are still made for me that Paige is spelling out against her skin. She uses her teeth to pull down Azzi’s panties, smirking to herself when she hears the younger woman's breath hitch above her. Eyes still interlocked with Azzi’s, Paige is purposefully slow as she licks a stripe up Azzi’s folds, relishing the way the other woman’s eyes roll back into her head.
“So fucking wet,” she hums, “all for me?”
“You know-” Azzi shudders when Paige’s lips brush against her clit, still teasing, “you know it is.”
Paige smirks, “only for me.”
“Please,” Azzi begs as Paige continues to lazily lap at her pussy, giving her something but not quite enough.
“Say it,” Paige demands, harshly biting against Azzi’s inner thigh as she brings up a hand to rub infinity signs around Azzi’s clit, “say it’s only for me.”
“It’s only for you-” Azzi cuts herself off with a scream as Paige plunges her tongue deep inside her, setting a tempo she knows will have Azzi seeing stars.
“Doing so good for me baby,” Paige coos as she adds two fingers with her tongue, “always so good for me.”
“Fuck,” Azzi fists the bedsheets, trying to gain some semblance of control as she writhes under Paige’s touch, “feels so good. Paige please.”
“I know,” Paige whispers, “I know what you need baby.”
And that’s the thing about them. That’s why it’s good every single time. Because Paige knows every little crevice of Azzi’s body like it’s her own, knows exactly where to touch and how to touch to elicit those little gasps of pleasure that she wishes she could record and listen to on loop. And it doesn’t matter how long they go without each other in between, coming back always feels like home. But as much as she loves the feeling of coming back, Paige never wants to feel it again. Because this time, she hopes there is no in between without each other. She hopes that this time, they both stay.
“Paige,” Azzi moans again, her name falling from her mouth like a prayer.
“I’ve got you,” Paige whispers, capturing Azzi’s lips with her own as she continues her ministrations with her hand, “fall apart for me baby. I swear I’ll put you back together.”
There’s nothing quite like watching Azzi come undone and Paige drinks in the sight of the other woman quivering as she grabs the blonde’s bicep so tight that it’s bound to leave a victory mark. Paige coaxes her through it, nibbling at Azzi’s jawline as the younger woman slowly climbs down from her peak, going limp in Paige’s arms.
They’re quiet for a while, languorously pressing delicate kisses against each other's skin, soft hands exploring all over each other’s familiar bodies as they tangle their legs together; close not being close enough.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Paige whines when Azzi starts to move out of her grasp.
“I got what I came for,” Azzi teases, “so I’m going back to my own bed.”
“Shut the fuck up,” Paige scowls, pulling the younger woman back into her chest.
Azzi laughs, kissing away Paige’s pout as she wriggles out of her grip and slips out of the bed, “relax. I’m just getting something to clean us up with.”
“Well hurry up. I’m already cold,” Paige mewls before letting out a wolf-whistle as her eyes drift over Azzi’s naked retreating form, appreciating the tautness of the brunette’s back muscles down to her perfectly curved ass.
“You’re 31 years old Paige Bueckers,” Azzi chides as she walks into the ensuite bathroom but Paige can hear the blush in her voice.
“And you’re hot as fuck Azzi Fudd,” Paige calls out with a smirk, keeping the and you’re all mine as a secret in her own thoughts.
“You’re not bad yourself Bueckers,” Azzi returns from the bathroom with a smile and a damp cloth as she hops back onto the bed, gently dabbing it between Paige’s thighs.
It’s a simple act but Paige feels tears prickle at the corner of the eyes. Because it signifies so much more than just this moment. For most of her life, Paige had grown accustomed to the idea that no one would take care of her unless she took care of them first. She didn't know it was possible that someone could reach out first, that they could hold her first without any expectation of anything else in return. Until Azzi.
“Baby?” Azzi’s voice is wrapped in concern as she takes notice of Paige’s tears, immediately rising up to brush them away, “what’s wrong?”
“Nothing I just-” Paige loops her arms around Azzi’s neck, shuddering slightly at how earnest the younger woman’s face is, “I really fucking missed you.”
Azzi’s eyes soften as she caresses Paige’s cheek before pressing her lips against her forehead, “I really fucking missed you too.”
***
Paige’s eyes flutter awake to sunlight peeking through the blue curtains of Azzi’s guest bedroom. She groans, shifting to bury her face further into the brunette’s stomach, pinching it when Azzi laughs above her. Lifting her head slightly, Paige can’t help but smile at the woman above her. Azzi’s got her glasses on, a book in her hands as she peers down at Paige with nothing but pure fondness. Something aches in Paige’s chest as countless visions of mornings just like this fill her head. She’d resigned herself to believing that she’d never get this back again, that she’d have to rely on memories of the past to fill the empty void that rattled hollowly against her chest every time she’d woken up without Azzi by her side.
“Morning sleepy head,” Azzi says softly, putting her book down to brush her fingers through Paige’s hair, “assuming you slept well considering you didn’t even notice when I left to grab my glasses and a book from my room.”
Paige frowns, “you left me?”
“I was bored,” Azzi defends herself, “you were fast asleep and I had nothing to occupy myself with.”
“I can believe you left me,” Paige petulantly accuses again.
“I didn’t leave-”
“You left me!”
“Okay fine,” Azzi concedes with an eyeroll, “but I came back.”
“Yeah you did,” a soft smile takes over Paige’s features as she leans up to brush her lips against Azzi’s, “you came back.”
“I did,” Azzi whispers against Paige’s mouth, cupping the older woman’s face with her hands.
Paige is about to deepen the kiss, her hands beginning to slip lower, when the sound of a doorbell ruins any chances of putting in motion any of the uncordial ideas that had taken birth in her mind. She groans as Azzi immediately pulls away.
“Shit, I didn’t realize they’d be here so early.” the younger woman curses, hurriedly tossing Paige’s discarded clothes at her, “here, put your clothes on. I’ll go down first while you change.”
“I- I can come down?” Paige asks slowly.
Azzi crinkles her eyes in confusion, “what do you mean? What else would you do?”
“I just. I dunno-” Paige shrugs, “I just assumed you uh- you wouldn’t want Stephie to know I stayed the night. I figured I’d sneak out of the window or something.”
“Paige,” Azzi whispers, walking over to grip the older girl’s hands, “you’re not- you’re not my dirty little secret or anything. I’m not- I’m not quite ready to tell Stephie about us- hell I’m not even really sure what we are yet but I know- I know that I don’t want to hide you from her. Besides,” she nudges Paige humorously, “we’re on the 2nd floor babe. I don’t need you trying to climb out the window and breaking your knee before the season even starts.”
Paige watches quietly as Azzi walks out the door. She doesn’t think the younger woman quite understands how much she had needed to hear those words, how much she had needed to not feel like a secret again. It fills Paige with a sense of hope, hope that maybe things would be different this time. Maybe things would be better this time.
***
“Miss Buecks,” Stephie squeals from Azzi’s arms as she spots Paige descending down the stairs, “you’re already here!”
Paige smiles at the little girl, tapping her nose over Azzi’s shoulder, “I promised you I’d be here bright and early didn’t I?”
“Very bright and early,” Katie cocks an eyebrow as she smirks at Paige and Azzi, “how did you get here so early Paige?”
“Don’t be silly Nanna. She drove of course,” Stephie says matter-of-factly before scrunching up her nose, “but Miss Buecks. How come your car isn’t outside then?”
“That’s a great question Stephie,” Katie says and Paige thinks the woman’s a little bit too peppy for a grandmother, “why isn’t your car outside Paige?”
“Because-” Azzi gives her mother an exasperated look before fixing her eyes on her daughter, “because Paige slept over last night.”
“Miss Buecks slept over last night?” Stephie repeats.
“I did,” Paige confirms, glaring at Katie as she snickers in the corner.
“Mama can you please put me down,” Stephie says finally.
The little girl looks upset and Paige feels her heart constrict with fear. In general, she doesn’t really do well with people being mad at her. But she definitely doesn't think she can take Stephie of all people being mad at her. The little girl has chiseled herself into Paige’s heart and if she ever left, Paige thinks she’d leave a hole so big, her entire heart would cease working.
Azzi shares a nervous look with Paige as she sets her daughter down before crouching down to Stephie’s level, “what’s wrong Stephie-bean?”
Stephie’s bottom lip trembles as she looks between her mother and Paige, “you let Miss Buecks sleepover.”
“I-” Azzi looks helplessly between her own mother and Paige, both of whom look just as tense, “I did but sweetheart why is that upsetting you? You like Miss Buecks.”
“I love Miss Buecks,” Stephie wails and Paige lets out a sigh of relief, the little girl's words wrapping themselves around her like a warm blanket.
Azzi blanches for a second, “I don’t understand then what’s the problem-”
“YOU GUYS HAD A SLEEPOVER WITHOUT ME,” Stephie yells, stomping her tiny feet.
Oh.
“Stephie-” Azzi says softly, unable to keep the smile off of her face.
“I can’t believe you’d do this to me Mama,” Stephie sniffs as she turns to Paige with a betrayed expression, “and you Miss Buecks. How could you guys have a sleepover without me?”
“Oh sweetheart,” Paige falls to her knees beside Azzi, trying not to smile when Stephie dramatically turns her face away from them, “we didn’t mean to. It was just really late when we got back from the party-”
“The party,” Stephie cries out, “first you went to a party without me and then you had a sleepover without me. I can’t bel-ieve you guys would do that to me. Don’t you guys love me at all?”
“We’re really sorry Stephie,” Paige says as seriously as she can, reaching out to fold Stephie’s tiny hands into her much larger one.
“Very, very, sorry,” Azzi echoes.
“I don’t know,” Katie supplies unhelpfully from where she’s watching the whole situation with pure amusement, “they don’t seem that sorry Stephie.”
“Mom!” “Katie!”
Katie raises her hands in mock surrender as both Paige and Azzi glare at her, “just looking out for my granddaughter’s best interest.”
“Stephie-bean,” Paige says again, maneuvering the little girl’s body to face her, “your Mama and I are very, very, sorry for having a sleepover without you. Please forgive us.”
Stephie looks at the adults kneeling in front of her with a contemplative expression, “you promise you’ll never do it again?”
“Never,” Azzi promises as Paige nods along.
“And when we go to the park today I can get three scoops of ice cream?” the little girl asks, the hint of a smile starting to breakthrough her lips.
“I don’t know about that one sweetheart. That’s a lot of ice-”
“Of course you can!”
“Paige!” Azzi hisses.
“And you’ll push me on the swing at the park for twenty minutes?”
“I’ll even push you for thirty minutes if you want,” Paige says and Azzi rolls her eyes.
“Just had to one-up it didn’t you Bueckers,” she mutters under her breath.
“And even though Miss Buecks said she’d get me fries at the park, I can get In-N-Out for dinner too?”
“You’re pushing it Stephie-bean-”
“In-N-Out for dinner sounds perfect,” Paige winks at Stephie as a full smile finally overtakes the little girl’s face.
“You’re hopeless,” Azzi chides the blonde, throwing her hands up exasperatedly but there’s no denying the grin on her face as she looks back at Stephie, “is that all your highness? Are we finally forgiven or did you want to ask us for more unhealthy things?”
“Just one more thing,” Stephie’s eyes twinkle with mischief, “Miss Buecks has to sleepover tonight too.”
Paige and Azzi share a toothy smile with each other before turning to the little girl.
“I think that could be arranged.”
The words are barely out of Paige’s mouth before Stephie goes tumbling into her and Azzi, tiny arms somehow wrapping around both of their necks as she pulls them into a group hug. The two adults laugh, cocooning the little girl in between them as she rambles on about how excited she is. And Paige thinks that when all is said and done, when she looks back on her life, she’ll remember this moment as the one where everything started to finally come together. Right now, with Stephie's arms wrapped around her neck and Azzi’s hands curling around the little girl’s back to intertwine their fingers together, this moment here feels perfect. This moment feels like it belongs to Paige.

How Could You Do This Part 2
Part 1
Claudia Pina x reader
warnings: angst
Summary: Claudia tells you the truth
Not proof read so let me know if you see any mistakes.
~~~
Patri was heartbroken at the sound of her best friends soft cries. She thought about what Claudia could have possibly done to make you so upset that you refused to even be in the same room as her.
"Did y/n find out about the surprise?" Patri asked once she heard Pina's crying turn into quieter sniffles.
"I don't think so. I know she doesn't like when I spend a lot of money on her, but I don't think she would have this strong of a reaction."
"Ok well when did she first show signs of being mad at you?"
"She was fine at the beginning of my interview. I let her tik tok on my phone and she was fine with sitting there and waiting for me to finish, but when I was done with the interview I couldn't find her until I heard her crying in the bathroom. I don't know what happened."
Patri realized that this was all her fault. You had seen her text messages from that morning. She had no idea that you would be on Claudia's phone and would be the one that would see her texts. She knew she had to fix this.
"I... I think I know what happened. I think she saw the texts I sent you this morning about meeting up with the agent."
"What texts? I didn't get a text."
"Yes, I texted you this morning that you should tell y/n before she finds out."
Claudia then went and looked and saw the two texts that her best friend had sent her and checked the time of them and it was in fact during the span of time that you had her phone.
"Oh my god... she thinks I'm cheating on her doesn't she. Thats why she was so upset. These texts look so bad. She didn't have any context about who you were talking about. What am I going to do... she doesn't want to talk to me and Alexia won't even let me near her."
"Ok... ok we will figure this out. It will be ok. Its just a misunderstanding. I will call Alexia and try to get her to listen to me and explain the situation. You get the surprise ready and you can show y/n and explain to her what was really happening ok. I will call you back in a little bit after I talk to Alexia," Patri said before she hung up with Claudia and called her captain.
~~~
"Patricia Guijarro you better not be calling me right now. I don't want to hear from you right now."
"Wait, wait hold on, let me explain please. Claudia did not cheat. She never would do that and you know her she is so in love with y/n."
"What happened Patri, and you better not lie to me or leave out a single detail."
Patri then explained the entire situation and let Alexia in on the surprise that started this entire mess. Alexia had no idea what to do. She believed Patri and deep down knew that Pina would never do anything to hurt you. Claudia was so in love with you and Alexia was beyond happy for the both of you. She knew she had to help Patri try and resolve this situation.
"Ok Patri, tell Pina to come over here in thirty minutes and plan a romantic date for them, I will take care of the rest."
"No problem, thank you so much Ale and I really am sorry for causing y/n to be so upset."
"It's not your fault, lets just fix this before it gets any worse."
~~~
"What did Alexia say, can I go talk to y/n. God I can't believe this is happening, I love her so much and I just want to make things right. Hopefully by telling her about the surprise now, she will understand what the texts were about," Pina said as she paced back and forth behind the sofa where Patri had been talking to Alexia.
"Alexia is still upset that we hurt y/n, but she said that you can go over there in thirty minutes and take y/n out on a date to explain the whole situation to her."
"Oh thank god, I'll call and make a reservation at our favorite restaurant."
Claudia quickly made a reservation at the restaurant where you both shared so many memories, including your first date where she was so nervous that she spilled her glass of wine all over you. Claudia thought back over all of her favorite memories with you and knew she had to sort this out quickly before she lost the best thing thats ever happened to her. Finally, it was time to leave, and she hugged Patri goodbye before she headed over to Alexia's apartment.
When Claudia arrived, she was met with a wary glance from Alexia. "She's in the living room," Alexia said softly. "Good luck, Pina and please don't hurt her anymore. It kills me seeing her heartbroken like this."
Claudia nodded and walked in to find you sitting on the couch, hugging a pillow tightly to your chest with old game highlights on the TV. Your eyes were red and puffy from crying. Seeing you like this broke Claudia's heart all over again.
"Y/N," Claudia began, her voice trembling slightly. "Can we talk?"
You looked up, hesitant but nodded. "I don't understand, Claudia. I thought we were happy, but then I saw those texts and..."
Claudia moved closer and gently took your hands in hers as she sat down. "It was a misunderstanding. Those texts were about a surprise I was planning for you. I would never cheat on you, ever. I love you more than anything."
You looked into her eyes, searching for the truth. Pina was always a terrible liar and looking into her eyes you relaxed slightly knowing she was telling you the truth. "A surprise?"
Claudia nodded. "Yes, a surprise. Patri helped me find a new real estate agent after the last one was not meeting any of our requirements. I was meeting a real estate agent because I wanted to buy us a home. A place where we can move in together and build our future. It has everything we both want, including the pool you always dreamed of."
Your eyes widened in shock. "A home? For us?"
Claudia smiled softly. "Yes, for us. I know you don't like it when I spend a lot of money on you, but this is something I really wanted to do. I want to build a life with you, Y/N. If its ok with you I was gone pay the down payment today."
Tears filled your eyes again, but this time they were tears of happiness. "Oh, Claudia. I was so scared. I thought I was losing you."
Claudia pulled you into a tight embrace. "You will never lose me. I promise. I'm so sorry you had to go through that."
You hugged her back just as tightly, feeling the love and sincerity in her words. "I love you, Claudia."
"I love you too, Y/N. More than anything. Now do you want to go tour our new home and then go to dinner?"
Chapter Two …
Present Day –
As 12AM hits, I find myself still waiting for Ale to come home from training. I decide to call my bestfriend to prevent my thoughts from further spiralling. “Hey chica, wait what's up?” my best friend's voice blares through my headphones as a frown etches onto her face, sensing that something is off with me. “Did she do something?” I start to shake my head because I know if I speak my voice will betray me and all my anxieties will be laid bare for her to see. It’s not that I don't want her to see, more that I don't want to acknowledge any of this. I’d like to believe that Alexia and I are still in that honeymoon, that she’ll come home early and shower me with kisses while we make dinner,that we will go back to watching films while our limbs intertwined till we didn't know whose body is whose. I know deep down that we have derailed so far away, we are slowly plummeting into an abyss of resentment and I don't know how to save us. “Y/N please talk to me” Kira’s voice brings me back to earth, I see the anxiety increasing tenfold on her face as she watches me intently. “I don't know," I admit, my voice barely above a whisper as I fiddle with the strings of my hoodie.
"It's just... Ale was out late last night, and she's still not home. And she's been so distant lately. It’s like I am living with a ghost, I can't shake this feeling that something's wrong." I rush out as quickly as humanly possible, as if I say it fast enough my brain won’t think about it and therefore it won’t become real.
“That’s strange, have you brought it up with her?” Kira's voice held a gentle probing, her concern evident. But then again, I couldn't fault her for that. Our nightly chats had become a lifeline, teetering on the edge of panic. It's strange, really. Ale used to be the one to ease these moments, but now, it's her actions that stir them up.
Present Day | Alexia’s Point of View —
As I step into the dimly lit apartment, the sharp remnants of the night at the club are still echoing in my mind. However, the laughter and camaraderie of my teammates felt distant now, replaced by a hollow emptiness.
I moved through our shared apartment with a sense of detachment, a space that was once so familiar now feels like a ghost town. The weight of exhaustion drags at my limbs as I head towards our room. But as I pass by the closed door, I can hear a snippet of a conversation that catches my attention, drawing me to a sudden halt.
"... it's strange how Ale used to calm me down from these attacks and now it is her that is causing them," Y/N's voice, tinged with worry and frustration, drifted through the door, sending a pang of unexpected guilt coursing through my chest.
For a moment, I stood rooted to the spot, Y/N’s words hanging heavy in the air like an accusation. The weight of her evident disappointment bores down on me like a crushing weight, quickly suffocating and stealing every word out of my mouth. How had I become the source of Y/N's pain, when did this happen?
Without another word, I retreated to the living room where the walls feel like they are closing in around me as the echoes of Y/N's words reverberated in my mind. Hours passed in agonising silence, the tension in the apartment thickening with each passing moment. And then, as if on cue, the dam burst.
Present Day | Y/N’s Point of View —
I took tentative steps to the living room to check if Ale had come home, the faint scent of alcohol hanging in the air further proving that she’s back.
As I rounded the corner, my gaze fell upon Alexia slumped on the couch with her head bowed and a half-empty bottle of whiskey clenched tightly in her hand. Her usually vibrant eyes were now dull and unfocused, the lines of exhaustion etched into her features.
A sudden surge of anger and frustration takes over my body. I naively thought that maybe today would be different, that today Ale would come to me instead of seeking comfort from a bottle.
But as I stood in front of Ale and truly take in the sight in front of me, a different surge of emotions come. I am quickly overwhelmed with a wave of guilt as I watch the woman I love more than anything crumble beneath the weight of her own self-destructive tendencies. No matter what I try to do or say, nothing can seem to get through the indestructible walls she had built around herself, the walls she once used to let down around me.
All of a sudden, I couldn't muster up any anger towards the woman who firmly held my heart in her grasp. I could shove aside my own emotions, even if it meant indulging in self-destructive tendencies, just to care for her.
"Ale," My voice was soft, barely more than a whisper as if my words would fracture her even further. I slowly approached the couch, my heart aching with a pain I couldn't name. "What happened tonight?" I asked while tentatively taking the bottle out of her grasp.
Alexia's head snapped up at the sound of my voice, her eyes glazed and distant as she struggled to focus on me, an effect from her excessive drinking that has become more familiar to me than I’d like. "Nothing," she muttered, her voice slurred with the aftereffects of alcohol. "Just... just another night out with the girls."
My eyes furrow with concern, I try to find any piece of the woman I loved, the woman who would buy me new flowers immediately after the previous flowers died, the woman who would wake up earlier before practice just to spend time with me, the woman who would bring me food to the library while I was drowning in assignments. But all I could see was the shell of that woman. All I could was emptiness and it was killing me. She was killing herself while clutching my heart within her hands, bringing me down with her.
My voice trembled with disappointment as I settled beside Alexia on the couch, the tension between us crackling like electricity. The atmosphere in the room felt heavy, suffused with the weight of unspoken grievances and broken promises. "You promised, Ale," I began, my tone beginning to edge with unbearable frustration as I decide to confront her broken vows. "You swore you'd try to get better, that you wouldn't let this control you anymore. That you would try for me, for us."
Alexia's eyes flashed with a mix of shame and defiance, her fingers stealing the bottle from my hands and tightening around the bottle in her hand as she clearly tried to brace herself for the impending conflict. The lines etched on her face increased tenfold. "I know," she admitted, her voice strained with the evident weight of her own struggles. "But it's not as simple as just trying, Y/N. You don't understand how hard it is. You just don’t."
My patience waned quickly as I met Alexia's gaze, my own resolve beginning to falter under the weight of our unresolved issues. "I'm trying to understand, Alexia," I defiantly retorted, my voice rising slightly with frustration. "But how can I when you won't let me in? You keep shutting me out, pushing me away every time I try to help."
A spark of anger ignited within Alexia's eyes as she rose to meet my challenge, her own frustrations bubbling to the surface. "Maybe if you actually understood what I'm going through, you'd realise that I'm not doing this to hurt you," she shot back, her voice tinged with bitterness. "I'm doing this because I can't bear to see you disappointed in me again."
The raw emotion in Alexia's words further broke my heart, the sting of guilt mixing with her own simmering anger. "I know, but you promised, Alexia," I murmured, my tone quiet but sharp with anger, "It just seems like you don't care about keeping your word anymore. You're drowning yourself in alcohol, and you're dragging us down with you."
I can see Alexia's gaze harden, her own frustration boiling over as she shot back once again, Never one to back down. “Don't act like you're perfect, Y/N. You're always on my case, like you have it all figured out. But guess what? You don't. You never have."
I clench my jaw as I fight to keep my temper in check, I know that Alexia isnt in the right state for this discussion, but her words hold some flicker of truth which is why the words spill out despite my best efforts. "I may not understand everything you're going through, but at least I'm trying. What about you, Ale? Are you even trying anymore, or have you just given up once again?"
The accusation struck a nerve, and Alexia's temper flared, her voice rising to match my intensity. "Of course, I'm trying!" she exclaimed, her hands balling into fists at her sides. "But it's not enough for you, is it? Nothing I do is ever enough!"
My eyes flash with hurt and indignation while my voice trembles with emotion. "That's not true, Ale," I protest, my heart aching at the sight of the woman I adore unravelling right before my eyes. "I just want you to be happy, but I can't stand by and watch you destroy yourself. I can't do it anymore when it is destroying me further knowing I can’t help you despite my best attempts to."
Tears welled in Alexia's eyes as she struggled to contain her rising emotions, the weight of their argument bearing down on her like a crushing weight. "I don't know how to be happy anymore, Y/N," she admitted, her voice breaking with despair. "I feel like I'm drowning, and I can't find a way out."
The distance between us grew with each passing minute, each second driving a deeper wedge between our fractured hearts. And during the chaos of our bitter exchange, I just had a sinking feeling that my love might not be enough to save us from the impending darkness that I know will consume us completely, sooner or later.
Exhausted and emotionally drained, my voice immediately softened, a tremor of uncertainty lacing my words as I try to grind the words I thought I’d never say out loud, not to Alexia, not even in a million years or in a hundred different universes did I think I’d say this to her.. "Maybe... maybe we need some time apart," I suggest, the weight of the admission heavy on my tongue.
Alexia's breath caught in her throat, her eyes widening in disbelief at the suggestion. "A break?" she echoed, the word heavy with resignation and a hint of desperation.
I nod, my own heart aching at the realisation that our relationship might be hanging by a thread. "Just... for a little while," I murmur, the words tasting bitter on my tongue. "To figure things out."
6 Months Ago | Alexia’s Point of View —
As the sun set over the horizon, casting hues of pink and gold across the sky, I led Y/N to a secluded spot in the park since I decided to surprise her with a special outing to a drive-in cinema. I see her eyes widen in surprise at the sight of twinkling fairy lights strung between the trees and a soft glow emanating from a cluster of candles.
With a nervous but determined smile, I take Y/N's hand and lead her to a cozy spot in front of the car. We start to settle onto a blanket spread out in the back of the car, the air filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant sound of birds chirping.
As we cuddle together under the starlit sky, the screen flickers to life with the opening scenes of "La La Land," Y/N's favorite film, I had put that somewhere in the depths of my mind when she told me, knowing it will somehow be important later on.
During an especially poignant moment in the film, I reach into a nearby picnic basket and pull out a carefully crafted scrapbook that took me longer than I’d like to admit. After all I am athlete not an artsy person. But for her, it’s all worth it.
I watch as she curiously flips through the pages, her eyes widening in surprise and delight as she sees photos of our many movie nights together, interspersed with handwritten notes and film strips capturing precious moments we’ve shared over the last few months.
My hands start to lightly tremble while I intertwine Y/N's hand with mine, as I feel her hand fitting perfectly into mine, a warmth spreads through me, comforting the trembles that threaten to give away my nerves. "Y/N," I start, my voice barely above a whisper but laced with the depth of my feelings, "I never imagined that one person could fuel my heart with such love and devotion, I can’t even imagine my life without by my side and I ..."
Y/N's eyes meet mine, shimmering with unshed tears of happiness. Without a word, her gentle nod speaks volumes, affirming the depth of her love and commitment. "Yes, Ale," she murmurs, her voice a soft caress against the night air, "I choose you, now and forever."
Present day | Y/N’s Point of View —
Before I can even take a step forward, a familiar blonde head of hair envelops me, momentarily throwing off my balance. "Geez, Leah, trying to knock me over?" I chuckle, returning the embrace of my lifelong friend. Football was never my thing before Ale, but Leah and I go way back to our days in the primary school astronomy club, and our bond has only grown stronger since then. Proving our friendship to be stronger than any time zone or country.
"How do you manage to shrink every time I see you? Is there something in the water in Barca?" Leah teases as she takes my luggage from my grasp and leads the way to her car. I just shake my head at her usual antics, gazing out at the Heathrow Airport parking lot. London. I haven’t been back home in years, never felt the need to with Ale around, but now that I've lost her, it feels like I've lost my home along the way as well. The realization hits me like a punch to the gut, leaving me feeling nauseous. In just a few days, I've lost everything that mattered.
Hours later, after battling the infamous London traffic, we finally arrive at my flat. It's a sad time capsule of my past life. Remnants of old friendships and memories linger in every corner, a stark reminder that while I've changed, the world around me has kept on spinning. That time waits for no one, and as I sink deeper into my thoughts, Leah's concerned voice breaks through the silence. "Are we going to talk about it, or are we gonna keep pretending like nothing's happened?" she asks, her honesty cutting through the tension. I join her on the couch, resting my head on her shoulder with a heavy sigh. "I don’t know," I admit, uncertainty weighing heavily on my mind.
“Cmon, as your favourite bestfriend I think i deserve more honesty than that.” She tries to lightly joke, but I know her words hold some level of honestly. And the words hit me harder than I expected, and for a moment, I find myself at a loss for words. She's always been there for me, through the good times and the bad, but this... this feels different. It's not just a bump in the road; it's a complete upheaval of everything I thought I knew. I know nothing anymore.
"I know," I finally say, my voice barely above a whisper. "It's just... it's all so overwhelming, you know? I thought I had everything figured out, but now... now I don't know what to do."
Leah quickly wraps an arm around me, pulling me closer in a comforting embrace. "It's okay not to have all the answers," she reassures me, her voice soft but firm. "Just take it one step at a time. We'll figure it out together. You still have me no matter what. You know that.”
I nod, grateful for her words of wisdom. But even as I try to take comfort in her presence, a nagging feeling of unease lingers at the back of my mind. How do you move forward when everything you once knew has been shattered right in front of you? Where do you even begin?
Tuscany was a place that brought me inner peace, childhood memories, a sense of safety.
It reminds me of the summers I spent with my grandma, sneaking into the kitchen to watch her make homemade pasta and pizza. It reminds me of being free and knowing that here I am my own person, that I can be myself and not a racing driver.
When my grandma passed away, she left this house for my sisters and I, leaving my mother with other properties, knowing how much this house meant for us and how many memories this place holds. Here we had first kisses, first love… Every inch of this house has our signature with small details: a wall piano where I used to sit with my dad to play it, a pottery jar my sister Soleil made, a painting made by my sister.
This house is my place, my safe space, my sanctuary.
And yet there he is, stepping into my space when no one asked him to be here, turning my life upside down as always with his selfishness.
“You have to leave” I said firmly, placing a protective hand over my belly.
“I want to talk, Dafne… please” he sighed, not tearing his eyes away from my swollen belly, making me turn around and walk towards the couch I occupied before he showed up.
“There's nothing to talk about, Charles” I sighed. “You've done enough. Leave me alone”
“I won't” he frowned, following me, making me hug myself. “I won't leave. Not this time-”
“Can't you see that the only thing you do is ruining my life?” I snapped, turning around to face him. “Look at what you have done! This is your fault!”
“I know!” he exclaimed, making me clench my jaw. “I know! And I'm so sorry!”
“Saying sorry won't fix this” I frowned, pointing at my belly. “Saying sorry won't make me have my career back. Saying sorry won't make me hate you less”
He clenched his jaw, but never looked away. He stayed where he was, looking at me all the time, following me with his eyes.
“I'm not leaving until you hear me” he frowned, making me groan while I sat on the chair.
“You think you can just show up here and try to be in my life after everything you did? After the panic attacks, the harassment, the constant media hounding?” I frowned. “You made me lose a man I really wanted to be with. Sebastian is more man than you, he tried to put back the broken pieces of my heart after the disaster you made. And then I had to see his heart breaker when I told him that this baby wasn't his but yours. You have an idea of how much that hurts?”
His eyes filled with regret as he clenched his jaw, but I couldn't let myself feel sorry for him. I have to be strong. For me. And for this baby.
“I know I've made mistakes” he sighed, and before he talked again he took a few deep breaths closing his eyes. “But I'm here to make things right. I came to talk things and fix this”
“You can't fix this” I said, pointing between us, fighting the tears. “You can't just show up and expect things to be okay. It's too late”
“Please Dafne…” he begged, taking a few steps closer. “I'm not asking for forgiveness right now, I just… Just give me the chance to be here, for you. For our baby”
“Our baby” I repeated bitterly. “This isn't about you, Charles! The world doesn't turn around you! This time is about me and what I need. And what I need right now is to have you away from me”
He stayed silent, with his eyes moving from my belly to my eyes. For a moment, I thought he really was going to leave. I saw him close his eyes slowly and take a deep breath, I saw that tic he has in his jaw whenever he's nervous. For a few seconds I felt relieved, thinking he was going to turn around and walk out of the backyard.
“I'm not leaving” he said, opening his eyes again. “I'm going to stay until you believe that I mean what I said. Until you decide to fix things and speak”
“You are so stubborn!” I exclaimed, frustrated. “Why can't you just respect my wishes?”
“Because I care about you, okay?” he exclaimed back, raising up his arms. “Why do you think I came here? I waited patiently until you came back to the factory, but you never came. I was going crazy because you weren't giving signals if you were alive or not. You didn't even make a statement about you retiring!”
“Do you think that's easy?” I mumbled. “Why do you think I came here? Why do you think I didn't say anything? Because this is hard for me, Charles! You have an idea how embarrassing it is for me to say you can't race anymore because you are going to be a mother? Do yu have an idea of how many times I had to answer to multiple people that I wanted to focus on racing when they asked me about my future plans, about making a family?”
“I…” he sighed.
“You have it easy” I said pointing at him with my hand. “You can keep racing, you can have as many kids as you want, after all you won't have to carry them for nine months. But I have to carry this baby, Charles. I can't race anymore, my body won't be the same”
“And I'm sorry for that, it's my fault” he sighed.
“Yes, it is” I scoffed. “If there's one to blame here it's you. I did nothing wrong. Just because you decided to not use a condom and be drunk”
“You were drunk too” he tried to attack back, but he stopped looking at the floor.
I stood up and turned around and hugged myself, looking at the sunset and taking a deep breath.
“You can stay the night” I said. “But I want you out of here before I wake up”
“Dafne-”
“No” I stopped him. “Right now you only bring me pain. If you want to fix things, go back in time and go to your hotel room instead of mine”
Laying in bed, now more than ever, only brought memories.
The room that always has been mine changed all over the years. My grandma inherited this house from her father, who was something like the lord of the land. It's a big house, and when my mother had Erica and then me, she decided that she wanted to give us a room for ourselves, making my mother know that this building was also ours.
My room was decorated the moment my mother knew she was pregnant with me, and it started to get shape as I was getting older. The bed changed a few times, the shelves were full of books and plants, the wardrobe had summer clothes, the walls were filled with pictures of all the places I had been in my life.
This room it's my sanctuary more than the house itself.
And knowing that Charles is at the other side of the door, as many other times, makes me want to stay here safe.
I heard him walking around the house like he owned it. After all, he spent many summers here, he knows where the things are here. I heard him walk in the kitchen downstairs, making something for dinner. I heard him sneeze and yawn.
He really won't leave.
I sat on the bed, rubbing my belly softly while looking out the window, taking deep breaths when I felt my cat walking towards me.
“What should I do?” I whispered, looking at my cat.
The day I found out I was pregnant wasn't the best day of my life. I had a crash that made me fall unconscious, I pushed away a man I knew I could fall in love with and be with him, I disappointed my parents.
I sighed, rubbing my belly softly, something I found myself doing more than I wanted. And somehow, I liked feeling it. I liked feeling that I was growing a human in me, it made me feel stronger than ever. If only this baby was from the man I love…
The door opened slowly, making me turn my head towards him. He had a hand on the handle and the other on the door frame, looking at me, watching how I had my sweater raised up so I could feel the skin of my stomach.
“Eh… I made dinner” he said, with his eyes fixed on me.
“Good for you. What do you want, pats on your back? A trophy?” I answered sarcastically.
“I want you to eat dinner” he frowned.
“No, thank you. I won't eat something you made” I scoffed. “And I'm not hungry”
“Oh my God, can you stop?” he frowned. “I just want to apologize, make things right! And you make it very hard for me!”
“So? I think I made it pretty clear that I don't want to have you here” I frowned.
“And what are you going to do, raise that kid alone? It's mine too, I have every right to be here” he groaned.
“But I don't want you here!” I exclaimed. “I don't want to see you. I don't want to remember every second of the day that you are the father of this baby, that you are the one that made this!”
“Well, I'm sorry! Accidents happen!” he exclaimed, raising his arms.
“Exactly” I groaned. “This is an accident. But who will be the one that won't be damaged? You. I want you out of my life”
He clenched his jaw and looked at me, shaking his head. I just want him to leave me, is it that hard?
“You can't push everyone away, Dafne” he sighed. “You did that with Sebastian. And you always did it with me. I think it's time for us to act like adults”
“Get out of my room”
“Fine. But I won't leave this house until we talk” he said before closing my door.
“Asshole!” I screamed, grabbing a pillow and throwing it to the door. “I hate you!”
“Well, I don't!”
What?
I frowned looking at the door, hugging my stomach softly.
What did he say?
“Whatever” I groaned, turning around on the bed and laying on my side, with my back facing the door. “Your dad is not good, you won't like him”
I swallowed thickly, looking out of the window and drawing circles on my belly with my nails. I'm hungry, the baby is hungry, but I won't give him the satisfaction of eating whatever he made, not even sharing the same room with him.
Charles might have been the first love of my life. But that was a stupid, childish and innocent crush.
My stomach growled in the middle of the night, making me groan and rub it softly.
I'm hungry.
I sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed, rubbing my eyes while I put warm socks on my feet. I got up and wrapped my shoulders with a blanket, taking a deep breath before walking out of my room.
I expected the house to be cold, like always. But it was warm. Maybe he fired the fireplace and let it die before he went to sleep.
I went downstairs and sighed, wrapping the blanket tighter around me. The stairs were cold against my covered feet, making me shiver softly.
When I reached the last step I frowned, watching him. He was on the couch, an uncomfortable couch, hugging himself and with his head on a pillow.
“Idiot” I whisper, looking at him.
He could have gone to the room he shed to sleep in with his brothers whenever they came. But he stayed here, for what? Waiting for me to come?
I shook my head and walked towards the kitchen, sighing when I saw a plate on the counter. I sat on the chair and looked at it, biting my lip when I saw a sandwich on it.
And not a simple sandwich. My favorite sandwich.
“How the hell…” I frowned, turning around and looking at him.
How does he know that my favorite sandwich is the one that has tuna with mayo and ketchup? How?
I sighed, eating it and groaning when I swallowed it. God, it's so good.
“Is it good?”
I gasped softly, flinching. He's awake.
“Why are you sleeping on the couch? You have a room” I said, not turning.
“Just in case you walked downstairs” he sighed. “I know you, Dafne…”
“You know nothing about me, Leclerc” I frowned.
“I know that you love eating” he said, standing in front of me at the other side of the table. “I know that for dinner you always need your comfort meal, and after that you always have cookies with milk. You have been doing that since we are little”
“Fuck off” I groaned, looking away.
“I know that you love peaches, but you are allergic to the peel” he continued. “That you love the chocolate of Cadbury, more specifically the Wispa bars”
I frown and look at him. How? How does he know that? Why? Who told him?
“I know you, Dafne” he repeated.
“No, Charles! You don't know me” I said tiredly. “If you did, none of the shit that is happening between us should have happened! If you did, you would understand why I hated every second of every fight we had. Why can't you accept that I want to be someone successful? Why can't you let me be and mind your own business?”
“And do you think it was easy for me?” he exclaimed. “Do you think it was easy for me watching you risk your life every time you got into your kart and now into the cars? I knew from the start that this sport was dangerous, and when I saw you for the first time in a kart I nearly had a heart attack!”
“You are being so selfish! This is my dream” I exclaimed, standing up.
“And I tried, every time I could, to make sure you left it” he said. “I tried to fight against you to make you hate it, to make you see that…”
“What? That I'm not made for this? That this is a sport for men?”
He swallowed thickly and looked away, walking towards the window of the kitchen, his back facing me.
“When Jules died I started to have nightmares nearly every night” he whispered. “Some nights his crash on Sakura was on repeat in my mind. And then other nights that crash was happening to you. Do you have an idea of what was going on in my mind when I realized that the one that was in the barriers in Abu Dhabi was you? Do you have an idea of how hard it was for me knowing that you were unconscious?”
“Charles” I frowned.
“Do you have an idea how hard I tried to keep you safe? Dafne, I-”
“No. Don't do this. You have no right. How dare you? Why are you like this? Why the hell you have been acting all our fucking life like a jerk with me, making me feel so little, and then you come here now to say what, that you love me?” I scoffed.
But then he turned his head slowly, looking at me with those green eyes.
“No” I mumbled. “No. No, don't. Leave. Leave right now! I don't want to see you! Get the fuck out if my house!”
“Dafne…”
“No” I groaned. “You have no right”
He turned around to look at me but I just took a step back before he could reach me, walking out of the kitchen and going to the hall of the house to grab the key cars.
If he doesn't want to leave, then I will.
Even if it's two in the morning.
Stray Kids as angst tropes:
Hey, guys! Okay, so I was in the mood for writing some angst, so here you go four angsty Stray Kids drabbles. I still have to work on Seungmin's, which means I'll probably post the other four tomorrow. Until then I hope you enjoy these ones.
Kisses😘
Chan:
You and Chan were walking down the street holding hands and laughing when a girl stopped in her tracks next to you.
"Chan? Is it really you?" she said with a surprised laugh.
The confusion on Chan's face quickly changed into pure happiness when he recognised the girl.
You've never met the girl before but you know exactly who she is. You know that she's the owner of the box of women's clothes on the highest shelf in Chan's closet. You know that she's the reason why Chan's watching Attack on Titan every Tuesday night. You know that he can't say he loves you because of her. And it hurts even if you told him a thousand times that it's okay. He looks at you like you're the prettiest girl in the world, but her... He looks at her like she's his whole world.
"Chan, stop apologising"
"But I didn't know this will happen, we were only supposed to meet to catch up a bit, not to find our unresolved feelings for each other"
"I did"
"What?" he looks at you in confusion.
"I knew this was coming, she was always who you'd choose"
"I'm so sorry, y/n"
"I guess it was my mistake" you let out a bitter laugh.
"No, don't you dare say you're at fault"
"I should've left sooner" now both of your eyes were glossy from tears. "Goodbye, Chan"
You hugged.
"I wish you all the best, y/n"
Minho:
Ringing. Not even remotely unusual sound for Minho. Especially because his best friend since high school was calling him nonstop for the last few days. He just ignored it for the most parts. He didn't want to talk to her. He had no idea what to say to her after what happened at Friday night. But then the ringing stopped and did not start again like Minho anticipated it to, like it did oh so many times already this weekend. What happened? Did you give up?
He almost felt relieved but then he realized... He knows you too well to believe you gave up. You're too persistent. And boy was he right. The next thing he hears is banging on his door.
"Open the fucking door, Minho, or I swear to god I'm gonna kick it in your face"
With a sigh he opens the door and you storm in.
"Y/n, seeing you is always a delight"
"Cut the crap, Min, I deserve at least an explanation"
"I'm not sure I can give you the explanation you wanna hear"
"Please, what happened? I thought you wanted it too" you whispered.
"We ruined our friendship"
"No, we didn't. Our friendship doesn't have to be ruined just because we start dating, it's not..."
"I don't want to date you! I never have and never will" he cuts in bitterly.
"But... I watched you go out with numerous girls waiting for the day you realize that the right girl was right in front of you the whole time" you trail off, tears now freely falling from your eyes.
"Sleeping with you was the worst mistake of my life" he answers without any emotion what so ever.
"And knowing you was mine. Fuck you, Lee Minho!"
With that you walk out of his apartment and his life. You never wanted to see him again not as a friend, not as a lover and not even as a stranger on the street. You wanted to forget him and the piece of your heart that he took for forever.
Changbin:
It was collecting up in you for long by now. Ever since Changbin and you became official you're getting hate from his fans. And we are talking about regular death threats level of hate. But when your sister got involved too you had enough. You decided to break up with Changbin. It was a hard decision but you had to do it, you couldn't take it anymore. Even though he had a really hard time dealing with the fact.
"Please tell me at least part of it was real" he pleaded
"All of it was real but I can't do this anymore. I'm not strong enough to bear it"
"Don't say it. Don't say goodbye"
"I'm so sorry, Changbin" you choked out, lips trembling, voice cracking and tears collecting on your lashes. "But we were never meant to last"
You left the room and was about to open the front door when he shouted after you.
"If you knew that from the start you should have told me before I fell in love with you"
For him the only indication of you hearing it was the sound of the front door closing right after. That was the last time you saw each other.
Hyunjin:
You and Hyunjin were madly in love at the start of your relationship and you made sure that everyone knew that. You were probably the cringiest couple alive. You did everything together and you were all over each other all the time. So everything was perfect until your third year anniversary. You had a huge fight and Hyunjin left and spent the night at his friend's. A girl he suddenly started to spend an awful lot of time with. Since then you felt further and further away from each other. You stopped going out together.
You were slipping away from each other and what is better evidence to that than the situation you're in right now. You are standing exhausted and completely soaked by the rain in front of the Café you work in. The Café your boss closed at 19:00. Exactly when he does everyday, exactly when your shift ended and exactly when you asked Hyunjin this morning to pick you up from there. That was an hour ago. Since then the rain is getting more and more intense. You are not sure anymore whether it's the rain or your tears that's running down your cheek constantly.
At the start of the hour you thought it's him every time a car passed by. You are not hoping anymore. Not even sure why are you still waiting for him, you could've gotten on a bus and you'd already be home.
caught kissing santa | dave york
-> pairing: dave york x f!reader
-> word count: 1586
-> content warnings: 18+ blog; established relationship/reader is married to Dave and stepmom to his kids, mentions of food and drinks, non-religious Christmas celebrations and Santa beliefs, alluding to sexy time but no smut, kissing, mentions reader is wearing pajama pants, fluff, soft Dave, one use of ‘good girl’.
-> note: this literally came to me this morning and i whipped it up during nap time. Not beta’d, so all mistakes and misspelling are my own fault!! -> masterlist / holi-dave masterlist
“So let me get this straight. You saw Santa last night. In the flesh. Just standing in our living room?”
You hear Dave ask Alice to retell her story again from where you’re standing at the kitchen counter, pouring steamed milk into your coffee. Except this time, he encourages her to tell it at a slower pace so you both could catch every word of it.
“Yeah!! I was thirsty and wanted to get some water. So I got up to go downstairs, but when I got to the stairs I could see him in the living room.” Alice says, sitting across from Dave at the kitchen table where there’s a huge breakfast of pancakes, waffles and all the sweet toppings laid out. Her excitement is infectious. Her innocence is still palpable and going strong, as she states she saw Santa with her own eyes.
“And what was he doing?” Dave encourages Alice to share more as he spoons several helpings of mini chocolate chips onto his stack of pancakes with a hearty serving of peanut butter melting over the top.
“Putting our presents under the tree.” Her words were muffled by a mouth full of sliced strawberries.
“Hmm. I guess that makes sense. Where were you Molly, when all this excitement was going down?” Dave looks over to the youngest of his two girls, who’s been enjoying her own helping of pancakes with a mixture of berries and chocolate chips piled on top.
“Sleeping.” You snicker into your cup at Molly’s blunt response. Her mild temperament was proof enough that the apple doesn’t fall far from the Dave York tree.
You turn and lean against the kitchen counter, so you can watch the rest of their conversation unfold.
It took some convincing to get Dave to go along with your idea of dressing up as the Jolly Man in Red this year. Knowing that Alice gets up every night to get herself a glass of water, it was the perfect set up for her to happen upon. Thankfully Dave folds easy to your convincing pleas and a good make out session on the couch late into the night seals the deal.
Alice had come to you a few weeks ago about the matter. Asking about the validity of whether or not Santa was real. She had heard her friends talking about how they were getting too old to believe in such a silly thing and how it was their parents all along. You could sense the turmoil of her wanting to still believe in the idea of Santa, but also wanting to feel a part of her friend group who seem to be eagerly growing into their not quite pre-teen selves.
As her stepmom, you didn’t feel like it was your place to have such a turning point conversation with her. Wanting to leave that for Dave and Carol to broach the topic with her if it were to come up again, supporting whatever their approach would be. You told Alice that Santa is real and he makes sure to bring a little holiday magic each year to everyone, no matter how old they are. Your answer seemed to satisfy her inquisitive mind and gave you an idea to give her a little extra Christmas gift in case this would be her last year believing in Saint Nick.
“What was Santa doing?” Dave sits back into the chair to take in the rest of what Alice had to say. His arms crossed over his broad chest. Your attention is briefly drawn to the way his gray nightshirt pulls tight over his shoulders and back, then quickly refocusing back to Dave and the girls.
“Putting all the presents under the tree. He had a big bag of them, too.” Her arms stretched out to give him an idea of how big the bag was.
You smile at the way Dave is giving her his full attention. Never letting on that he was the one wearing the suit late into the night as he placed each present under the tree in the living room, while you watched him from where you sat under a blanket on the couch. Snapping a few photos of him as he really got into character with each gift. Pausing every so often, his hands on his waist, complaining how miserable and hot it would be to actually be Santa in the thick red suit and beard for an entire evening. He even warned that your gifts would be lost if you continued to laugh at his misery.
Pushing off the counter, you join the three of them at the table. Settling into the open chair next to Dave, as you continue to sip from the warm coffee in your mug.
“So did you say anything to him? Ask him if he brought you anything special this year?” You ask Alice.
“No! I was worried I would scare him away and that he’d take our presents with him.” Her eyes widened as shakes her head no. It warms your heart hearing her response to this whole situation, the exact reaction you were hoping for.
“Oh! I didn’t even think of that. We wouldn’t want him to take everything away that he brought for us.” You say looking over to Dave who’s smiling into his own cup of coffee.
“He also seemed a little busy once he was done putting all the presents out. So I just went back to bed. Wanted to be surprised when I woke up this morning.” You’re confused by what she means when she said he was busy.
“Busy? How so?” You ask before taking another drink.
“Well—“ She pauses and looks at Dave, as if to search for the right words before continuing, then back to you. “I saw something else before I went back to bed.”
“What would that be?” Dave’s gaze shifts over to you momentarily when he inquires about what exactly Alice saw. Clearing his throat as he adjusts his position in the wooden chair and grabbing for his mug to keep his hands busy, his grip on it tightened and his knee bouncing at a steady pace. His fidgety movements are a telltale sign that he’s anxious— valid, given the way Alice has you all hanging by her every word at the moment.
“I saw you kissing Santa under the mistletoe that’s hanging over the fireplace.” Alice looks you straight in the face when she says it.
Dave nearly spits out the sip of coffee he had just taken. Coughing into his napkin as silence takes over the entire room. Molly halts her pancake devouring to stare at you with a shocked expression.
“Oh! Umm, well—“ You fumble over your words. Sheer panic runs through your body as you try to come up with something quickly as to why Alice would have seen you kissing “Santa”.
“Hey, girls look at what time it is. Your mom is going to be here in 20 minutes to pick you up. How about you go on upstairs to get your stuff together. Brush those sticky teeth and get dressed so you’re ready to go when she gets here.” The girls cheer in unison as they both hop off their chairs and run in the direction of the stairs that lead to their rooms. The bombshell revelation is long forgotten now.
“Oh my god!” You let out a big sigh and slump down in your chair, your head turning to see Dave silently laughing to himself. “She’s going to ask me again why I was kissing him— but I think you bought me enough time until they’re back from Carol’s.”
Dave reaches over and grabs your hand, pulling you from your chair and into his lap. Your arms drape around his shoulders, your temple resting against his forehead. His hand smooths over your pajama clad thighs, the other resting at your hip where he gives you a few gentle squeezes.
“Thank you for doing that for her. She might not believe in him next year, but she’ll have this Christmas as a fun memory to tell her kids when they’re asking whether or not Santa is real.”
“Thankfully all she saw was the kissing— or she would have been scarred for life.” Dave says between the soft kisses he’s giving to your neck.
“You’re the worst!” Playfully hitting his shoulder.
“That’s not what you were saying when Santa was showering you with all those gifts last night.” His eyebrows waggle as he looks at you, rolling your eyes back at him. Your face heats up at remembering just how many gifts you were given.
“How about when the girls leave, you slip back into that red suit— forget the beard. And you can give me some more of those wonderful gifts.” You whisper, as if your suggestion might be heard by two sets of small ears. “I might be in the giving mood and have a few for you as well.”
“I don’t know. Have you been a good girl this year?” Dave asks in a low sensuous tone.
“The best!” You manage to say before his hand is pulling your face to his, kissing you with earnestness.
The sound of feet bounding down the stairs cuts the kiss short. Alice and Molly making their way back into the living room to pick up where they left off with their new toys.
“Merry Christmas, Sweetheart.” Dave places the softest kiss to your lips.
“Merry Christmas, Dave.”
Husk: “I was trying to help you motherfucking losers!”
Vaggie: “Like hell. Telling others how much they suck feels good doesn't it? Feels like you've got it all figured out. No reason to get your own shit together when you can point at people who're an even bigger mess than you. No, you've already learned your lesson, you fucked up but won't be making any more mistakes. At least you're not in denial over it. At least you're coping with it the right way, aren't you."
Husk: "Well you'd sure fucking know since you're doing it right now."
Vaggie: "Takes one to know one."
Husk: "Tell yourself that if it helps."
Vaggie: "Oh you wanna talk about helping? Charlie’s trying to help every one of you assholes here. She's the one opening up and risking fucking up and getting hurt trying to reach you! Not that it matters to any of you.”
Husk: "Hey your fucking self."
Vaggie: "Angel Dust said you had a drink with him.”
Husk: “Yeah? What if he did?” (ears flattening) “He didn’t even get fucking tipsy and I’m not telling anyone what that loser would’ve said to me while drunk off his ass anyway. I don’t hate you motherfuckers that much.”
Vaggie: (smiles) “Yeah. I know.”
Husk: “…. your miss princess asleep?”
Vaggie: “Technically she’s in bed. Angel Dust came over for a sleepover girls night and I kicked Pentious out of a shadowy corner to join them. You seen Niffty?”
Husk: “No. Sounds like she’s still enjoying that shitty film though.”
Vaggie: “Sounds like? What-”
Husk: “Shh. Listen.”
Vaggie: “…… are the air vents..”
Husk: “Moaning.”
Vaggie: “That’s Angel Dust’s moaning. That’s his work moan- Fuck, I never wanted to know what that sounded like- but does that means the hotel ventilation system is-?”
Husk: “Piping hot garbage throughout the hotel like hell’s shittiest surround sound.”
Vaggie: “Great.”
Husk: “Hope your princess is ready for the audiobook.”
Vaggie: “Ugggghhhh.”
Husk: “Drink?”
Vaggie: “Just break the bottle over my head....”
Husk: “Fuck no.” (grins) “I’m not wasting a whole bottle on you.”
Vaggie: “Pour it out for yourself then. Tonight you’ve earned it.”
Husk: “Earned what, a fucking hangover?”
Vaggie: (rolls eye) “Just drink up, old man. I’ll drag you back to your room and toss you in when you’re done getting drunk off your own ass.”
Husk: “Huh!”
Vaggie: “I also won’t tell your princess he left you smiling like a dumbass for the rest of the night either.”
The Patron Saint of One Way Trips
Ch20
Description: action heavy chapter - mainly from the guys’ POV - laika is held by Graves… next chapter is gonna be JUICY!!!!
*Ghost's POV*
Johnny had fallen asleep briefly on our drive over. He wakes up when I pull the car up to a halt. It's early morning, the rain has finally stopped..
"Where are we?" Johnny asks - "Alejandro's safe house. Gave me the location just in case" I reply - "Why didn't he tell me?" - "It was need to know" - "What if I needed to know..?"
I roll my eyes - "Shhh, Johnny.." stepping out of the car..
As we approach the building, I sharply come to a halt, stopping Johnny in his tracks too. "Booby trap... Stop Johnny.."
"It's a pressure plate LT.." - "Alejandro rigged it" - "Smart bastard.."
I look up at the building and spot a window that will get us inside. "There, Johnny - look" I nod my head in the direction of the window. Johnny jumps through first and I climb through just behind him. I see a red laser point from the darkness - pointing right at Johnny.. "Don't move".
I remove my knife and throw it towards the shadows, roughly where I think the laser is pointing from. I hear it hit wood - missed.. FUCK. Johnny raises his rifle and takes aim at the dark shadow..
¿Quien esta ahi? a voice calls out. Fucked if I know what that means.. "Rodolfo!!!" Johnny shouts. "Soap, Ghost.. You're alive!!
"Affirmative" I reply
Rudy pulls my knife from the wooden beam and walks towards us. "Good to see you, amigos" - "Igual, amigo" Johnny replies in dodgy Spanish. My knife is handed back to me, I nod in thanks.
"Nice throw. Where were you guys?" Rudy asks in his accented voice. He is brave for an Omega..
"On the run" I reply.
"I was on the run. Ghost waited for me" Johnny cuts in.
"Of course, no?" Rudy asks as if it should be obvious - it was obvious...
"No" Johnny says at the same time I say "Yes-"
Johnny looks at me, surprised.
"We're pack... This happened on my watch and I'll need help to fix it. No one fights alone. We need to find the others.." I say, trying not to worry too much about Laika or Alejandro. I should never have ordered to stay in the room. The Shadows knew exactly where she would have been. I hope she is safe - otherwise it's my fault.. my mistake..
Johnny nods.
"Why did Graves turn?" Rudy asks
"We don't know" - "Las Almas can corrupt anyone" - "Not us"
"For now, General Shepherd, Laswell, and anyone else outside this room is considered a hostile. With one exception"
"Alejandro...?" - "We need him back"
Rudy nods in agreement and turns to a map on a table. "Graves is holding Alejo here - my team are there too"
"And Laika..?" Johnny asks. "Most likely - I couldn't find her when they started detaining us though.. she had already gone"..
My stomach drops and a growl escapes my throat. "What do you mean, 'GONE'?!" I bark. I feel a little guilty when Rudy steps back. It slipped my mind that he is an Omega.. I need to keep my cool..
"That doesn't matter right now, LT - How do we get 'em all back, Rudy?" Johnny steps in, somehow staying calmer than me - he was usually the hotheaded one...
"By breaking in" I grumble, head screwed back on.
"And that's why I love the Ghost" Johnny teases.
Rodolfo walks over to a huge door and slides it open, revealing an armory full of weapons and gear.
"It's well-stocked" Rudy explains, nodding to the vast array of weapons and equipment..
Johnny laughs, amazed by the selection. He always gets excited by this sort of thing.. like a kid at a sweetie shop.."My man- We're gonna need new wheels. Preferably up-armored" he says to Rudy.
At that, Rudy tosses me a set of keys and turns on the lights to the building. We had been standing in the darkness this whole time. As the lights flash on, it reveals an armored vehicle. That'll do!
"Alejandro thought of everything" I say, respecting the Alpha's preparation.
"Yeah, he did. Let's go get them"..
*Laika's (Y/N's) POV*
"Sweetheart?" I wish he would just leave me alone..
"C'mon sweetcheeks, I'm gettin' bored of this now.. we have almost arrived - tell me..? You wanna share a cell with your buddy Alejandro..? Or do you wanna stay with me.. I'll keep you safe, you can be my little attack dog, huh - so good at following orders..?
I stay silent. "Maybe we should call the Russians, ask them how to re-wire you a little bit.. what buttons to press.."
I gulp. He chuckles at my reaction.
"Alejandro doesn't like me.. thinks I'm a rat.." I whimper, trying to manipulate Graves, by telling him little truths, sprinkled by a little white lie here and there..
"Does he now, Princess..? S'that why he made you leave the meeting on the roof..? Stupid sonovabitch played right into my hands there!" he chuckles "Oz led you back like a lamb to slaughter.. pity you'd already pissed off when we came back for you.. smart, by the way - probably wouldn't have caught you if you didn't have such an obsession with helping civvies.. your file says you've always been disobedient in that way.." he laughs. “Look at the bigger picture, princess - acceptable losses are - necessary.."
Bastard. Fucking Bastard!!!!
"Yes, commander.. it's a vice I'm unable to shake" - "Well, if you're gonna be useful to us, you better start fuckin' shaking it, asset"
WHAT?!
Graves turns his attention to the soldier driving the car. "Fuck this, Shadow - take us back to HQ, buddy. I don't want her at the prison with the others. She stays with us.. Understood?"
"Yup yup"- the car makes a sharp turn and speeds in a different direction. "Your buddies will not be able to find you, you're on a one way trip to America, sweetcheeks.. you look good in Shadow gear, I could get used to it"
Creep. Fucking slimy, pervy fucking creep!
*Ghost's POV*
We pull up outside the old prison facility. Rudy grabs a huge rucksake, filled with guns and weapons for his men once we'd freed them.
Rudy speaks up once he has hauled the rucksack onto his back "Graves'll have this place locked down".
"Let's hope they're alive" Johnny says with a hint of anxiety..
"Count on it, amigo"
Johnny starts asking Rudy questions - he does this when he is nervous, I have noticed. A distraction, or coping mechanism..
"Rudy, how long've ya known Alejandro?" he asks
"20 years. Signed up together. Toughest dude in the regiment. Turns out we weren't just friends, he claimed me five years ago now"..
"I wouldn't wanna mess with him..." Johnny says, seriously.
Rudy laughs "We used to say 'el unico que puede matar a Alejandro es Alejandro...'"
I furrow my brow, not understanding "What's it mean?" I grunt.
"The only thing that can kill Alejandro is Alejandro..."
"Glad he's on our side, then, amigo" Johnny replies.
"Two snipers, first tower. Soap- you take one, I'll get the other" I bark orders. The Shadows are shot down quietly.
The sound of a helicopter roars from above. "Looks like a supply drop!" Rudy shouts over the noise..
We move quickly through the facility, using CCTV to guide us. The place is crawling with Shadow soldiers, we deal with them quickly and quietly.
I go off on my own with guidance from Johnny and Rudy. I plant a few bombs and settle behind a barrel for temporary cover. I speak over the comms "We're all set here, Johnny. Have we located Alejandro?"
Rudy's voice cuts through the radio "Perfect timing. I found him on CCTV".
"Where?" Johnny asks, studying the screen in front of him.
"He's in solitary. Two Shadows on the door" Rudy points.
"I see 'em. Ghost, we got him. He's alone, no sign of Laika. Two Shadows on guard"
"Vamos!" Rudy shouts - I know that word. Lets fuckin' Vamos then!!
"Ghost, what's your status?" Johnny asks
I stand from my hiding spot and make a move to start towards them "Comin' your way".
The sound of another helo comes from above. They must be onto us by now..
"It's locked!" Johnny shouts - having reached the cell block door.
"We'll need to breach it" Rudy replies
"No, Rudy- Knock.." I suggest, finally having caught up with them.
"On me..." Rudy says, as he stands and bangs the door in the same way a returning guard would. Stupid fuckin' Shadow opens it immediately That was too easy..
We ambush the guard as soon as the door cracks open. Bullets rain from above, balconies lining the upper floor of the cell block.
"Light 'em up-!" I bark
We make it through all of the Shadow's for now.
"There's Alejandro's cell... Open it up, I'll cover you" Rudy shouts.
I remove the bolt cutters from my belt and cut open the lock.
Johnny enters the cell immediately. Suddenly, Alejandro grabs Soap from behind and shoves him against the wall, ready to punch him. Rodolfo steps in and stops Alejandro.
"Al- It's me, hermano" - Johnny says, shocked by the sudden attack.
"Alpha! Calm, tranquilo - it's us.. we came for you" Rudy speaks softly
Alejandro calms down, happy to see his Omega, they have a fast hug and Alejandro grumbles happily before speaking..
Soap!! Rudy, Ghost...!" he sounds surprised..
"Didn't think we'd leave you, did you...?" Johnny jokes, shaking hands with a grateful Alejandro.
"What the fuck took you so long, pendejos?" he jokes back..
I roll my eyes at his joke before replying "place is crawling with Shadows. There'll be hell ahead. Let's get Laika and then make a move. Rudy, go get your Cowboys.. Alejandro - where is she?"
Alejandro looks confused, then. I feel anger rising to the surface.. "Alejandro..? Where are they keeping her..?" trying to keep a lid on my anger..
"Amigo, I don't think she is here.. And I don't think she is on our side. Be careful who you trust.."
I growl, "What the fuck do you mean by that" I bark at him, grabbing the neckline of his jacket and shoving him backwards.
"She has been here before. I recognised her as soon as she arrived. Almost killed me a few months back - missed her shot. She's a sniper, amigo. A spy.. A rat..?" he explains.
Johnny looks utterly betrayed.
"Alejan.." - "NOT NOW RUDY! I KNOW WHAT I SAW" he shouts at his Omega.
I take a step back, lifting my lips angrily, like a growling dog. FUCK!
"We find her - I don't care. Find her first, ask questions after. That's a fuckin' order. We came for you Alejandro, now you fuckin' help us find her" I bark.
Alejandro shrugs "Fine, if that's your call. I wouldn't be shocked if she isn't in league with the Shadows, amigo. They've proven that they are not to be trusted.. but I will help you find her if that's what you want.."
I nod, mulling his words over in my head "It is what I want.."
"Let's go then - we've wasted enough time" Alejandro shouts.
Rodolfo hands Alejandro a BAS-P submachine gun.
"Let's fight fire with fire" Alejandro laughs as he storms towards the cells his men are being held in.
We make good progress in freeing the soldiers,
Johnny speaks up and asks Alejandro "You seen Graves here?"
"No, but I plan to pay that cabron a special visit" he replies - "Aye, Me too...he might have our girl.." - "Don't get too attached, amigo - she cannot be trusted..."
We move outside into the open yard of the facility. There are several Shadow soldiers ahead. FUCK -
"Riot shields-!" Alejandro shouts in warning.
"Soap, throw whatever you got at them!" I shout, knowing that Johnny loves his flashbangs and grenades.
After a series of bangs and crashes, Johnny laughs "Think we're clear, LT."
The freed Vaqueros rally around Alejandro and Rudy, collecting weapons and readying themselves to help us fight our way out of here.
The front courtyard is saturated with Shadows. We are massively outnumbered, even with the addition of the cowboys..
Alejandro speaks to his men "Weapons hot, hermanos. Stairwell leads down and out... We'll link up with the other and exfil the fuck out of here"
"Exfil vehicles are set. Ghost planted charges to help us get out" Rudy explains.
"With Johnny's help.." I add, I didn't plant all the bombs on my own, after all..
Alejandro laughs "I can't call Soap "Johnny"..."
"Don't" Johnny smiles "Only pack can pull that off".. I nod and give him a quick pat on the head before moving off.
"We'll have to cross the yard to get everyone out" Rudy shouts.
We reach the doors leading out into the prison exterior, but come under fire from the Shadows.
"Sniper on the roof"
"Sniper down" Johnny shouts.
"Good shot, hermano!"
Soap, and Alejandro lead Los Vaqueros down the road, but a pickup truck arrives and offloads more Shadows.
"Johnny- That truck's got one of our charges on it. Detonate it" I bellow
" With pleasure, LT - Here it comes"
BANG
"Ka-freakin-boom, baby-!" I roll my eyes at Johnny's happiness. He always has loved explosives..
Shadows start to organise their position. They're surrounding us!
FUCK
We keep trying to get closer to the exfil point but the Shadows have us held. The sound of an approaching helicopter catches my attention. If that is more Shadows, we are fucked..
"You hear that?" Johnny asks
"Helicopter-- Searching for us! - Take cover, amigos!" Alejandro shouts.
The enemy helo opens fire on the first group of Los Vaqueros. We stand no fuckin' chance now!!
Our comms growl to life simultaneously.
"All stations, this is Bravo-6- Get down!" - I could cry - but I won't - It's Price.
I glance up to the perimeter wall and see Price fire a rocket at the helicopter. It hits and plummets to the ground with a huge explosion.
"Hell fucking yeah!" Johnny shouts, elated.
"All Bravo and Vaqueros... Top o' the wall. Get here and I'll get you out. How copy?" I hear through my earpiece.
"Loud and clear, Alpha. Comin' to ya...!" I reply
"Who is he?!" Rudy asks, anxiously
"Our Alpha..." Johnny replies - Rudy raises an eyebrow. "You're a pack of all Alphas.. unusual, no?"
"We make it work.." Johnny answers.
"I like him already" Alejandro laughs.
We all hurry to the wall where Price lowers ropes for us to climb.
*Johnny's POV*
As I reach the top of the wall, two arms reach to help me. "Gaz" I laugh, climbing into his arms, hugging him and stuffing my nose into his neck.
He laughs along with me, re-scenting me as well.. "Well, what happened to your arm, Soap..?" he teases "Fuckin' Graves is what happened".
Gaz steps to the edge of the wall and scans all of the soldiers climbing up. He turns sharply, the smile wiped from his face.
"Where is she, Johnny...?." He growls.. I pause - not able to think of how to tell them.. that we didn't exactly know, and that Alejandro has reason to believe she is a traitor. I can't bring myself to believe it though. Not Laika, not our girl..
"Sergeant MacTavish..." Price warns from behind me. "Kyle asked you a question.. where is she..?" he warns..
"I - We don't know exactly.. we thought she'd have been brought here when HQ was taken.. but we haven't found her.."
"We need to find her. Laswell thinks she is in danger... Soon as Shepherd and Graves went dark, she called us" John explains as we load up into the exfil vehicle.
"Laswell, still solid as a rock - we weren't sure who to trust.." Simon grumbles "You trust pack, Simon.." John growls back, angrily.
Alejandro appears at the top of the wall then, he quickly makes his way towards us.
"Colonel Vargas, meet Captain Price and Sergeant Garrick" I introduce - "Thanks for the assist" the Alphas shake hands - "You need to help us find our girl" John growls.
"Let's get the fuck out of here, hermanos" Alejandro orders his men
"Down the wall... WE ARE LEAVING!" Price barks, too.
We start getting in the vehicles - "Captain, follow me" Alejandro speaks, jumping into the drivers seat of the first jeep.
"Copy. Gaz, drive!"
Gaz starts up the vehicle and drives away from the prison.
"Shepherd burned us" Ghost says as we follow Alejandro's vehicle.
"He sent Graves and his Shadows to kill us and round up Los Vaqueros" I explain
Price growls and nods his head.. "We know why"
I raise my eyebrows, surprised.. "Why..?" I ask.
Gaz answers from the drivers seat. "Laswell did a bit of digging..."
"What did she find?" Simon grunts
"The truth...The truth about the missiles. And - the truth about Laika.. we need to find her.." he growls, absolutely livid.
Alejandro leads us back to his safehouse.
*Laika's (Y/N's) POV*
Graves has been pacing up and down in front of me for the past hour. I'd been cuffed and my head covered with a sack. He has been on a video call with General Shepherd. The computer starts making a ringing noise and a familiar voice joins the conversation. Before Shepherd answers, he tells Graves to stay silent so he doesn't pick up that he is on the call. Graves walks over to me and roughly puts his hand over my mouth so I can't make a noise.
"You hid this- Why...?" a rough growl comes through, angrily - "We all keep secrets, Captain Price.. some more than others.." he laughs. I whimper from within the darkness of the sack. Graves shakes me roughly to shut me up.
"Why the hell wasn't I informed?" - "Consider yourself well-informed now, John"
John laughs in a terrifying tone "Oh, that's really fuckin' helpful, General. Thank you. But, you're a day late and a missile short. There's three of them- we only found two. And, you've taken something of ours. I want her back.."
"Then, point yourself in that direction and fix it" The General snaps back.
"And who fixes you, eh?" John says, threateningly. "I don't need fixing. I'm a patriot protecting my country".
I hear the scuff of a chair sliding sharply. Price must have stood up in anger.
"You're protecting your own ass" he growls. I'd never heard him so angry. He was radiating pack Alpha energy.
"I do what needs to be done, Captain, and no one holds me down with a roll of red tape. I know what's best for the cause"
"You've lost your fuckin' mind, General"
"And you've forgotten what you're fighting for, John. To do good, you gotta do some bad. When we shit, we bury it, that's how it works"..
"Yeah... But we don't bury each other with it, do we? Where is she..?" he growls again.
"You need to turn off that side o' your head and face down the real enemy" - "she ain't our enemy.." John interrupts.
"You need to call off your Shadow, NOW"
"You mean Graves...?" - "Yes!" - Shepherd laughs "Now, Captain.. He's a dog with a bone, and I highly recommend you don't try and take it"..
"This is your last chance to change your mind" John warns..
"Then what?" Shepherd taunts..
"Then after I kill him... I'm coming for you" the laptop slams shut.
*Captain Price's POV*
I slam the laptop, shutting off the uplink. I nod to the other four soldiers in the room. "Graves has her" I growl, angrily.
"Hey- Vaqueros, pay attention" Alejandro shouts into the large safe house.
All of Los Vaqueros gather around Alejandro us at the table.
"Alright, listen - We are taking back your HQ. We are getting our girl. We are killing Commander Graves" I order.
"When?" Rudy speaks up
"Now" Ghost grunts
"We are not 141 and Los Vaqueros on this. We're a team...understood..?" I growl
Ghost empties a bag full of skull masks onto the table.
"...Ghost Team" I nod, clenching my fists. The Alpha in me was desperate to get loose and rampage the HQ with little regard. But as Captain, I needed to keep my head.. No being a hero. Get in, get our girl, kill Graves, get out.
Ghost removes his mask in front of everyone. I nod and smile at Ghost.
"Good to see you again, Simon" I laugh, he rarely took it off in public. I hadn't seen his face since we had taken Laika, come to think of it..
I remove my boonie hat in solidarity and notice that Kyle takes off his 'lucky cap' too.
"If you're in, take a mask... If you're not... Don't" I order.
Everyone around the table takes a skull mask.
"My troops know the Fuerzas Especiales facility better than the Shadows. So, we'll have the advantage - Be advised, they'll be on high alert because of the prison break. We'll infiltrate the base with two Ghost Teams....Team-1 is Captain Price, Gaz, me, and one pilot.. Team-2 is Ghost, Soap, Rudy, and Los Vaqueros.. Team-1 will use the tunnels to get to the tarmac and commandeer a helo. My pilot will take the Captain up. Team-2 will stand by outside until Price fires on the entry gate and lets them in to fight their way to Graves, and the girl... I suspect he'll be in my HQ defended by his best shooters" Alejandro describes. I nod along in agreement. This has to work...
"we will see how this plan goes and once the place is clear, Gaz and I will locate and secure Valeria... The rest of you will look for the girl and Graves... and Kill him.." he growls.
"Lets fuckin' go" Johnny shouts, marching towards the vehicles.
Lets go get our girl..
“Please don’t go to sleep yet,” Artie said. She sat halfway up and looked at Lou, really looked at her, for the first time that night. She looked haunted. She had been still for a while except for that tremor that she didn’t seem to be able to kick, but she looked fragile. There was a mark across her cheek from resting on Lou’s jeans for so long.
“I’m beat, Artie. My head is killing me. My arm,” Lou said. She could barely keep her eyes open. “I’m out of stuff to say. You look alright now.”
“It’s not that,” Artie said. She buried her face in Lou’s lap again.
“Then what?” Lou said.
Artie said something, but her voice was so quiet and muffled, Lou couldn’t hear her.
“What?” she said, leaning in close.
“I’m not ready for you to hate me again,” Artie said, a little louder that time. She winced at the admission.
Lou nodded. “I ain’t apologizing,” she said.
“You shouldn’t,” Artie said into Lou’s thigh.
“I ain’t. And I am still mad, don’t go around thinking I ain’t mad,” Lou said.
“I don’t,” Artie said.
“But I think, since we’re gonna die and all we have is each other anymore, I think maybe I’m finished hollering at you,” Lou said. Artie looked up at her from the ground, her dark eyes glossy in the low light. “I do have two stipulations. Don’t fucking slip me nothing else.”
“I won’t— I swear to the gods I won’t. That was a mistake— you– you have no idea how much I regret–“
“Nothing. No matter your intention,” Lou said.
“Nothing,” Artie agreed, eagerly.
“And,” Lou said, “you gotta be nice to Holliday again.”
Artie grimaced like she’d been given something extremely bitter to eat.
“She’s deluded and mean and this is all her fault, but there ain’t no point in being mean back, now. She lied to us but she didn’t know she was taking us on a wild goose chase. She believes something’s out there for her. Really believes,” Lou said. “If I can be tolerant of you and her, you can tolerate her. Let’s spend these last days in peace.”
“These aren’t our last days,” Artie said. She sat up. Even in her pale and drawn face, her eyes had an intensity and determination behind them that Lou felt she hadn’t seen from her in a while.
“Weeks, then,” Lou said. She didn’t know how fast someone could starve to death. The prospect of starving slowly for months chilled her.
“I’m gonna keep us alive,” Artie said. “I’m bringing you home. I’m bringing you home alive. Leave it to me.”
“Okay,” Lou said. She nodded and Artie nodded back, determined. Lou didn’t believe it, but, like with Holliday, there was no need to argue about it anymore. Let them all think what they needed to think to die peacefully.
Not just a flower child huh? ( logan howlett x reader ) part 4
summary : jean get the result of the test she ran on y/n only to find something that well didn't make sense but did all in the one go . The findings , well they needed to know more about the lab and logan of all people not expecting the answer to their questions.
warning : angst af , past childhood trauma , child abuse ( what happen to our girl when she was in the lab) second hand guilt
(previous part)
It couldn’t be right ? but yet she checked it over and over compare the two and yet one their it was as clears day on the screen . it made no sense , maybe the machine was on the brink but the others ones too was impossible. Yet in the absurdity of it all it weirdly made sense when jean pieced it all together maybe the professor would know the right way to go about it all and maybe it was time to see if y/n could tell them more of the lab she was kept in and who kept her there. She was so worried sharing the result maybe this was a bad idea , maybe it would make it all come back and stunt the little progress y/n had made. What if she lied and told her everything else and left it out then again she didn’t want to lie at all . it was hard she become fond of y/n in the short time the woman was with them she admired and could call her a friend . the strength and courage, the selfless courage to protect those before herself no matter how much it would hurt . she didn’t want to be the one to hurt her or bring back something painful . that day she seen what y/n showed the professor something like that would haunt the hardest of hearts and it killed jean for y/n to think it was her fault . she cried that night scott had to hold her while she sobbed for the pain and heartache her new friend carried and let haunt her every night . another think she notice first time she was able to see into the womans mind it was like she was shielding them of the horrors she witnessed another selfless act.
“ call the team including y/n i can be the one to break it but we can not keep this from her break the trust we made” the professors voice rang in her head.
A deep sigh jean grey agreed rounding up the team and y/n as they sat in the professor office. She wondered why she was gathered in with them all did she do something wrong , the concerned look on jeans face didn’t help when the woman notice she was looking she tried smiling but it wasn’t real it was forced .
“ you’re not in trouble dear girl” the professor chuckled making his way to the desk the copy of jeans findings in his lap . “ we have the result of your test something well it came to our attention you share the same mutation as someone in the room “ he said softly.
“ you and jean we already know she does those mind tricks “ logan teased hoping it would ease her tension.
“ actually she shares you mutation logan a form of it almost identical” charles explained .
“ but that can’t be possible you’re not saying she my kid right” he asked feeling sick to his stomach .
“Not possible i was there at her birth and you are not our mothers type” piotr countered.
“ no she doesn’t share his actual dna , it more you mutation , the enhance sense like smell , the hearing , his healing factor ” jean asked.
“ how you able to tell who’s coming so quickly” scott pieced it together.
“ i thought that was cause i’m traumatized” she mumbled trying to make sense of it all .
“ the people your parents sold you too , they keep you this whole time , do you know anything of them?” storm asked .
“ they were american or well i think they were they spoke english , the man they called him colonel he took me to the lab , he said he wasn’t going to make the same mistake again ” she said his face flooding her mind.
“ is this the man “ charles asked her showing the picture of her tormentor , the one who stole her innocence and childhood .
“That’s him , stryker “ those word hit him like a ton of bricks like she knocked the air out of logans lungs , her earlier words “ he wasn’t going to make the same mistake again” she was taken because logan got away.
“ he must of had a vile of your dna or something and gave it to her” scott spoke .
“ yes i think we know that part genius” logan rolled his eyes and yet internally he felt like he was going to throw up if only his memory wasn’t lost he would of been able to stop stryker , he would been able to stop the pain she endure.
“ i don’t have claws or anything” she asked suddenly looking at her hands .
“ no only the elemental power , telekinesis , mind control , and ability to read minds and well his senses and healing factor like regeneration , the elemental are the one of your own mutation as well as the telekinesis but the rest well was whatever they gave you “ charles explained.
“ making you most powerful mutant here” scott blurted out.
“ well least i didn’t go through it all for nothing “ she mused dryly.
“ i’m guessing they force the mutation to come out?” .
“ it makes sense why i don’t have scars i always wondered why the scars went” she said more to herself not noticing the sad looks on the others faces or how her brother fist clenched or how tense logan was. “ at first they tried a non physical approach scar me i would cry and scream for them to stop but they never would some would even laugh and taunt me , then when that didn’t work they used their imaginations sometimes i would pass out it was too much “.
“ no one will ever hurt you again” piotr pulled her to his side only for her to flinch at the rudeness before relaxing .
“ could i be excused please” she asked softly .
“ of course if you need to talk we are all here if you need us” storm spoke up .
They all sat silent even after she was gone , they knew the world was cruel but they just fathom how depraved it truly could be even to something so sweet and innocent like a child. She really did have their respect more and more each day .
This time he really couldn’t sleep some how he felt some sort of responsibility and other part of him was glad she did have his mutation , the fact she was always going to have the mental scares of what she went through she didn’t need the physical one to remind her even more . he could imagine the sick ways they did it , he knew stryker , how cold and void of humanity in that mans ways he’d seen it first hand and now to know .. could he class her as his friend . to know someone as amazing and special as y/n . walking down the silent halls he could see the kitchen light already on meaning she once again couldn’t sleep . he couldn’t help chuckle to see the beer awaiting him , the light cast of ice around the glass and the back door open . walking out to see her standing at a fire pit he knew wasn’t always there but nothing got past that charles . he watched as she clicked her fingers and the flame that appeared lowering it in to the pit .
“ you should start sleeping aren’t you like old as this place” she asked pulling the chairs over to the pit and taking a seat.
“Actually probably am” he chuckled taking a seat pulling out the cigar only for her to click her fingers and hold her hand out in his direction.
“ bag of tricks” she smirked making him laugh.
“ your something” he smiled .
“ that could go either way that comment” she arched her brow.
“ you have every reason to hate the world , to be angry at it and yet your not” he said truthfully .
“ the world didn’t hurt me people did , well it seems the same person who hurt you hurt me” she sighed.
“ and i was an unbearable prick because of it “ he smiled when he heard her laugh it was one of his favorite sounds.
“ it sucks i don’t have the kitty claws , they look so useful for the cooking i’ve been doing lately” .
“ not kitty claws sweetheart but if you need help in kitchen call me i can show you” he winked.
“ your hair is like the ears too” she snorted.
“ ok i prefer you calling me doberman now” he rolled his eyes.
“ your not such an unbearable prick” she smiled.
“ and you're not a monster” he said.
“ if you saw you would think differently i kill many men” she admitted.
“ and i bet it was to protect someone”.
“ it was and part of me wanted to as revenge but i don’t want to talk about it not tonight it’s a nice night to feel normal or pretend to “ she sighed watching the sky above her.
He was still pissed off , knowing another asset was gone but he knew he would get her back , he just needed to do it carefully , he need to make sure whatever they planned was perfectly executed or it would get harder and harder. William stryker knew the damage she could do and how she could rid the world of the thing he despised most . he’d spent too long to give up now and he wasn’t letting history repeat never again would he face the humiliation he did before , his reputation was nearly non existent and this was his last shot to get some of his dignity back . the first target would be the school that held them there , burning that to the ground would be a great start to the reckoning . he wondered if he got her to comply would the same trick work on logan maybe the two together oh the destruction in their path would be catastrophic but for now he would settle on her even get more serums to work make her completely indestructible. Now it was getting her back , back to the cage he wouldn’t mix her with anyone that was a mistake but the tape he held of her after how she pulled them a part like they were made of paper , how she made them suffer it was a piece of art and he was the artist . this time he was going to be the one on top and god help any mutant that got in his way when he was .
I often hear people say they would never go as far as getting someone fired even if they hate someone. I would. I hate one of my coworkers so much and I’m not the only one so we’ve been collecting evidence to get her fired because she’s constantly getting the rest of us in trouble for her mistakes. Even when we present her with evidence proving something is her fault, she refuses to acknowledge it. Her mistakes always cause us to get yelled at by customers and because our system is very old, there’s not much we can do when mistakes happen, so we get in trouble for even letting those mistakes happen in the first place. It doesn’t help that the company I work for doesn’t really fire people, unless they’ve done something really bad. So we all gather the evidence and it’s compiled into a folder on my computer and once there’s enough, we’re suppose to present to upper management. When I told my mom about this during one of our meet ups, she actually got really upset that I would try to get someone fired because what if that employee resents me and tries to get even with me. So I told her the alternative is me, and some other people, all have to keep doing her work, and I’m not about to just silently take it. My mom’s worried that as a WOC, I’ll get targeted which I get, but I also can’t just sit here and continue doing her work for the same pay. So far upper management has made it clear they don’t care about what she’s done so far so unless we can collect a lot of information that they can’t ignore, we’re all stuck doing her work.
The next morning Y/n got into the Impala with Sam and Dean while Cas rode with Ellen and Jo. The place was empty. No people, no signals no EMF. Dean put the car in park and they all got out. They met up Ellen and Jo but Cas was nowhere to be found.
"Where did he say he was going again?" Sam asked.
"He said the place is flooding with reapers." Ellen replied.
"Wow we've already lost the angel up our sleeve." Dean commented.
"You think Lucifer got him?" Sam wondered aloud.
"Beats me." Y/n shrugged.
Soon there were demons swarming up the place. The first person to notice them was Jo. She stopped walking when she heard a female voice say.
"Hello boys, Y/n."
"Meg the bitch." Y/n smiled at her as if she was greeting an old friend.
"Damn I missed the attitude, babe." Meg smiled cunningly.
"Wish I could say the same." Y/n retorted.
"You made a mistake coming here, Sam. He's here. And he'll make you say yes." Meg snarled.
"You wish, bitch." Y/n shot at Meg and she groaned. A few demons came out of from buildings and Sam and Ellen shot at them. Dean was hovering behind Y/n just to be sure she's safe.
"You're gonna regret that." Meg said as she waved her hand around and loud growl was heard. Followed by another. Dean's eyes widened as he stared at the ground. He couldn't see it but he knew. Hell everyone knew. Hellhounds. Sam and Ellen shot at it and ran backwards. Dean almost seemed frozen at his spot and Y/n pushed him away putting her body in between him and the Hellhounds. She felt teeth on her calf and screamed in pain but then Jo shot at it. And he left Y/n's leg and ran after Jo. The Hellhound tore at Jo's body. The four of them grabbed Jo and ran into the hardware store.
Y/n and Ellen immediately grabbed as many bandages as they could to stop Jo's bleeding. Sam and Dean poured salt over doors.
"You shouldn't have done that, what were you thinking?" Y/n said as she pressed up a cloth against Jo's stomach.
"It was coming after you, it would've taken you." Jo replied meekly.
"You..just stop talking okay." Y/n felt like she was hyperventilating. Jo was like her little sister, She was supposed to protect Jo. Not the other way around. "You're gonna be okay yeah." Y/n's hand shook as she tried to stop Jo's bleeding.
"Y/n you're bleeding." Sam whispered.
"Shut up Sam." She intended to snap at him but her voice came out as a whimper.
"Y/n." Ellen called out. "You're bleeding. Let Sam patch you up." Her voice held such authority that Y/n couldn't defy.
Y/n slumped against the counter and let Sam wrap bandages over her wound. The gash wasn't as deep as Jo's but it was pretty deep and it bleed profusely.
"Hey look at me." She heard Sam's voice. "Not your fault okay?" He made sure she heard him. "You hear me? It's not your fault." She nodded halfheartedly.
"Sam's right. It's no ones fault. We came here to fight and if we go down, we go down fighting." Ellen said looking at y/n.
Dean hasn't spoken a word. He couldn't. He couldn't even bear to look at y/n. She's is pain because he was caught off guard. He looked at her face, tear stricken and sweaty. Blood seeping through her jeans where the Hellhound bit her calf.
"You have to get out of here." Jo mumbled lowly.
"We need to get out here." Y/n snapped.
"Cmon y/n i know I'm not making it out of here. My guts are all spilling out and we're barely holding them with bandages. How far do you think we can go."
"Jo please."
"Do you have any other plans?"
"What're you thinking?" Dean asked and y/n looked at him with a you-better-not-be-serious look.
"They're not going anywhere those Hellhounds, they have your scents forever and you can't outrun them. We're in a hardware store, perfect place to make bombs."
With a heavy heart they all agreed on Jo's plan. She was going to stay there, they'll get the hellhounds to get inside and then she'll blow herself up along with those filthy dogs. Sam and y/n prepared the bombs while Dean and Ellen placed them throughout the store, placing a wire on them to connect them all. Dean placed the detonator in Jo's hand and she took it with weak hands. Dean leaned and connected his lips with hers. Y/n wished she didn't witness it but that was Jo's last kiss and Y/n couldn't really hate it since she and Dean are nothing. Never were.
Ellen sat beside Jo and Sam gaver her a look.
"Someone has to let them in. I'm not leaving my daughter alone. Go."
A few minutes pass as the three of them left the store the place blew up in pieces. The trio watched as the large flames erupted and y/n let out sob which made Sam pulled her into him.
"Let's go." Sam helped y/n run as she was limping due to her wound.
They found Lucifer at the cemetery where he was supposedly performing a ritual to awaken Death. And Dean shot him with the Colt. Straight into his head. Lucifer fell onto the floor and the trio watched in anticipation. But then he got up and the bullet fell from his forehead.
"It doesn't work on me guys I'm an angel remember?" Lucifer said turned back to what he intended to do. He awakened Death.
Before they knew it Dean, Sam and y/n were zapped to Dean's car. They drove back to Sioux Falls.
"Cas can you heal her?" Sam asks from the front seat. Cas nodded and placed a hand on y/n's calf and the wound was gone.
"Thanks Cas." Y/n said quietly.
"We need to talk. When we get back." Cas looked at y/n and she nodded.
"What is it?" Dean asked from the drivers seat.
"Nothing that concerns you."
The drive was exhausting as they were all barely awake when they reached Bobby's house. The four of them walked inside and Bobby understood it didn't go well from their lack of enthusiasm and not to mention two members missing. Y/n walked to the garage and sat on the hood of one of the cars.
"Do you know or I'm going to be the one to tell you.?" Castiel stood beside her.
"I had my suspicion but you're gonna have to confirm or deny." Y/n whispered.
"It's true." Castiel answered. "You have be careful Y/n. Very careful." He warned. "If i hadn't healed you back there you could've.."
"I know Cas thank you." She whispered as the tears dropped down her cheeks. "Hey Cas."
"Huh?"
"Can you please keep it to yourself, not tell a soul?" Y/n asked him hoping he'd say yes.
"You don't want to tell your friends?"
"No"
"And the father?" She shook her head. "I promise I won't tell anyone."
The next day Sam and Dean decided to hit the road. They can't keep waiting here and hoping that some miracle is going to happen and the apocalypse will be stopped.
"Y/n c’mon we've to leave in ten." Sam banged on her door.
"Leave me the fuck alone Sam, I'm not going anywhere." She yelled back.
"What why?" Sam asked.
"Come on in." She told Sam. Sam walked inside to see a pile of blankets. And from under the heap a head was peeking.
"What's gotten into you?" Sam said sitting beside her.
"I'm mourning." She mumbled from under in the blankets.
"Okay and?"
"And I can't do this anymore, Sam." She sat up let the blankets fall off of her. "I'm tired and I'm exhausted. Sam it never stops, the nightmares, the deaths, the terrors. Im losing myself here Sammy." Tears pooled in her eyes and before she knew it she was full on sobbing in Sam's arms. "I hate being weak, i hate that you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and here i am pathetically crying to you that my life sucks." She sobbed.
"Hey hey hey...look at me, where's all this coming from?" Sam asked in distress.
"I can't save anyone Sam, I had made peace with knowing that revenge wouldn't make it all right but then I met you guys and I stayed, and once we killed Azazel I thought it'll be over, but it never stopped. It's taken so much from us Sam, I lost my parents, your mom, John, Ash. Ellen, Jo I can't even...." She sobbed and Sam tried his best to calm her down.
Sam heard heavy footsteps approaching and he knew Dean was coming up to her room. He hoped his could brother help because clearly he wasn't able to. Dean burst into the room and he saw a mess of tears on Sam's shirt, a sobbing y/n in his arms. He kneeled in front of her.
"Sweetheart look at me, hey.." Dean pulled her away from Sam and made her look at him. "What's wrong darlin'?" He took a seat beside her.
Y/n just shook her head and kept crying, he pulled her closer to his chest and hoped she'd calm down, his heart was breaking into a million pieces. The love his life was a mess and he couldn't do shit to make her feel better.
"Sammy can you grab her some water please?" Dean asked and Sam left the room quietly. "Baby hey, cmon angel look at me please." He made her look at him. "Hey tell me what's wrong baby you're breaking my heart here." Dean asked as softly as he could.
"Everything is wrong Dean... there's nothing left anymore."
"Hey now don't say that, it's not like its the end of the world." He tried to joke but she didn't even smile, her face set in a frown. "You're scaring me now, you know?" She pulled herself away from him.
"Why're you even here Dean?" She asked quietly.
"I'm here because I love you. And it's ripping me apart to see you like this." His words sent a shiver down her spine. The words she desperately wanted to hear for so long but now it felt too late.
"Why now, Dean? Because it's the end of the world?" She asked.
"No because I'm tired of running. I love you. I need you, and I'd be damned if I let you go ever again."
"I love you too Dean." This was the first time either of them had openly acknowledged their feelings. But she knew she couldn't tell it to him yet. The news.
"It's the end of the world." She mumbled.
"It's not. We've got time. I promise."
"You're not thinking of anything stupid are you?" She stared at him. Sam came in back with a bottle of water.
"Define stupid." Dean asked.
"Micheal stupid." she turned to Sam, "did you go to a damn well to get me water?"
"Shut up." Sam replied with an eye roll. "Yeah Dean are you thinking of Micheal stupid?"
"No i promise I'd rather die than say yes to that asshole."
"Guys i... i don't want go."
"Why?" Sam asked.
"I don't think I...I don't want to be a hinderance to you two."
"That's a load of shit you know that right?" Sam said nodding his head at her.
"Sam no seriously. I'm not in the right state of mind. Apart from you two and Bobby, Jo and Ellen were my family. I guess I'm pretty shaken up from what happened to Jo. Part of me feels it was my fault and i just can't....I'll be more trouble than help to you two." Dean took her hand in his and squeezed it.
"I understand I guess. You take your time okay?" He said softly.
"Sammy?" Y/n asked looking up at him.
"Rest up kiddo." He kissed her forehead. She smiled and hit his chest.
"You're two months younger than me you giant." She giggled.
"You two are annoying." Dean rolled his eyes playfully.
"Look who's talking." Sam replied.
"Bitch" Dean said.
"Jerk." Sam replied.
"Whores." Y/n dropped in. The two of them looked offended and she giggled.
"Promise you'll take care of yourself?" Sam asked.
"Promise Sammy." She replied. "Before you go, can you get me my bag and my gun. Its in the trunk of the Impala."
"Sure." Sam asked Dean for the keys and he tossed them to him.
Dean's lips were on hers as soon Sam left the room. He grabbed her by waist and pulled her as close as he could. His other hand went to grab her neck. He kissed her as if his life depended on it.
"Fuck baby, I'm gonna miss you." He pulled away for air. "Gonna miss these pretty lips and all the pretty noises you make for me." He pecked her lips over and over.
"I'm gonna miss you too. Come back safe yeah?" She pecked his lips.
"Yeah, you take care of yourself for me." Y/n nodded as Dean made his way towards the door. He was almost out if the door when he came back and pressed his lips her once again. "God I love you."
"Mhm i love you. Now go." She pushed him lightly. She heard his footsteps getting further away and heard him say something along the lines of 'what took you so long' to Sam, she assumed. Sam came back with her things and bid her goodbye as he left.
