as soon as I see the start of the "it's so cool that she is now independent and strong" or even the "she is so beautiful she needs no man" (etc. cause that one post that used "my lesbian brain now likes her more in season 2 because she is seperated from Jayce and finally has a story" ???????) bullshit they pull with her I open the accounts and ohhh it always hits me like a brick when I scroll and am hit by a wall of Jayvik

I can’t take criticism on Mel seriously because most of it is done by jayviks who say she’s pretty and call it a day then act like they love her😭. Like sorry, I’m not taking you seriously when your account is filled with only jayvik and you only talk about Mel to objectify her and seem like you don’t hate “the female character that gets in the way” that’s simply not enough. A lot of these hardcore “Mel is a manipulator” people are very obviously biased lmfao. “Jayce dumped her” except that never happened? They talked and then he left and fucking died lol, one important thing to remember is that these are CHARACTERS and there is writing behind them. What I’m saying is that they were handled poorly by the writers and they never actually “broke up” or should I say he never “dumped her🤓” they just.. had a thoughtful conversation and it was never brought up again. I feel like yall only say he “dumped her” so it fits the shitty narrative that Jayce dumped Mel for Viktor which is NOT true and literally never will be. You guys literally call her an “independent black woman who doesn’t need a man” except in different wording to make her seem unlovable. Yes, she doesn’t need a man but she WANTS a man. Stop acting like you actually want her to be independent, you just want to get her out of the way but also still seem like you’re an “”ally””.

you know what I want to add a little bit more to that post. Mostly about the "Mel got removed from Jayce and finally became her own character" bit.

I fear my first reblog hasn't really captured the spirit of that yet. We get to know Mel in the second episode of season 1 and her first scene shows us how calculating and smart she is. She is also very aloof in this scene, not even acknowledging the person handing her the puzzles. Her conversation with Elora, while still showing some sort of relationship, is also distanced. She talks about her riches and how she is "still the poorest medarda" despite being the richest person in Piltover.

So what this tells us is this:

She is alone. In her family she seems to be the odd one out. She thinks herself to be standing in the shadow of her family (=mother though we only find that out in episode 8 of season 1). In short this basically tells us a contradiction. While everything they already gave us at this point in the show tells us she is incredible, smart, knowledgeable etc, she sells herself short.

When Mel talks to her mother about her banishment it isn't just a conversation, it explains to us who Mel is and why she is that way. It tells us that in a way she is self conscious and hides herself away. This is the starting point of her character, keep that in mind.

Ok, that brings us to my next point. How she used that childrens toy to her advantage. Again, smart as fuck. Had she not done this, then Jayce would have been banished. There were 4 votes against 3 meaning gaining that one vote changed the fate of Jayce, literally. She didn't find Jayce interesting as a person but as an investment during this time though. Nothing about him influenced any of her decisions, especially not here. She chose to give away that toy and she chose to vote against Jayce's banishment.

The look Mel and Jayce give each other after Jayce and Viktor found their way to Hextech also already spoke volumes. They obviously had the hots for each other and like good for them, lmao. After the timejump their relationship has shifted as well. While she still obviously sees the investment, she now also sees him as a person, too. They are extremely comfortable with each other.

Now after Jayce didn't show their newest Hextech project? She did walk away but that also gave us something:

She very obviously isn't resentful. That is also seen in how, while rightfully being annoyed, she immediately gets why Jayce left after their night together. Her giving Jayce the position in the council ALSO wasn't cause she loved him but for political reasons. That, again, tells us another thing about her:

She can clearly separate work and home life.

All of this, while maybe including Jayce, are of her own character and not because of someone else. We see her acting in the council too, and that's also interesting. Because while some others like Salo seem to be ready to jump around and scream, she never does. She waits, calculates, listens and then offers her voice. She is never holding back but she also doesn't just react crazy. Not once. Not after the explosion happens in act 1 of season 1, not when Jayce talks about Magic, not when Vi is in the council with Caitlyn, not even in the end of season 1 when Jayce proposes the peace treaty with Zaun. None of this is linked to Jayce or because of Jayce. She just is her own character.

And then season 1 did something incredibly fascinating. Now they actually introduced a character Mel seems to have some dependency to. Her mother; Ambessa Medarda. It's reluctant and it's awkward and it strengthens her character very much.

At this point in the story the love between Jayce and her is already blossoming, it's after their sex scene. Their relationship doesn't influence any of her other decisions, she doesn't suddenly act differently to before or becomes dependent on Jayce. If anything it, again, strengthens her.

When in the beginning we saw her as thinking she is standing in her mothers shadow, she now steps into the light when she steps up and calls out Ambessa. When she lets go of the weight of family holding her down to vote for peace, it also shows how she's grown. She isn't distanced anymore, nor is she someone who stills sees herself in her mothers shadow. Her character went from incredible with an arc before her to that arc being masterfully concluded. And that happened WITH Jayce and not BECAUSE of Jayce. When in the beginning she was aloof, distanced and calculating, in the end she was ready to show herself to Jayce, be herself and be caring. She wasn't distanced and gave Jayce a look into her life (telling him about her family after he told her about his troubles).

She was still very smart but also let herself be emotional about a decision, she gave away the weight of her family and left the shadow it cast over her completely.

Anyways yeah just wanted to talk more about Mel. Because she was nothing but very interesting in season 1 and saying she just now got interesting after not being with Jayce rubbed me the wrong way whoops

Y'know what, I really was trying to take a break from ranting about Arcane but shit keeps pissing me off and twitters format doesn't let a bitch rant like she wants to.

I'm sick and fucking tired of white queer people acting as if they're the only ones that are underrepresented in media. Like actually get a fucking grip on reality. I keep seeing people say that MelJay doesn't count as rep because "it's straight" as if that is not a direct representation of a dark skinned black woman being loved and cared for without needing to fight tooth and nail for it. As if that isn't an interracial couple that doesn't have a white person in it for fucking once. As if Jayce isn't a Latino coded man.

Straight white people have a fuck ton of representation, sure, but let's be fucking for real, out of all the people in the LGBTQ+ community that need more representation, white queer people are not at the top of the list. Y'all get most of it actually! Y'all have me on the internet fighting for my life about a straight ship because y'all can't stop for two fucking seconds to think about anyone that isn't fucking you!

"I think Mel is sapphic though!" - And a good chunk of the time the account has not shit about Mel on it. It's just a JayVik shipper using it as an excuse to completely shove her aside.

"She deserves better than a man"...they don't live in a patriarchy bookie. Jayce is not some misogynistic asshole from the real world, he's flawed for sure, but he's not treating Mel like she's inferior to him. He loves her and she does in fact deserve someone that loves her. If that person happens to be a man then so fucking be it. Not to mention...'she deserves better than a man' but you're ultimately using it as an excuse to...ship two men together? Oh okay...

EDIT: Real quick - I dont really wanna hear about how you 'just prefer gay ships' babe. I prefer sapphic ships. That doesn't take away from what I said. Actually, it just makes me feel like you're trying to deflect from the topic at hand rather than just listening and shutting the fuck up and I can't promise my reply to that is going to be particularly kind <3

OKAY Y'ALL, I NEED SOME OPINIONS

What are your thoughts on the last episode of Arcane season 2?

Here's mine: (SPOILERS!!)

Okay so first of all, i don't HATE it, i just wish it wasn't the way they went with it, It really sucks to have an ending not be what it could have been (heh "what could have been" ouch), especially when the show had so SO much potential, i know i know "they were trying to get them to be like in the game", to bad i don't care, bc so many more people watch then show then play LoL, they could have still done that while having an actual ending to be proud of, that made everyone watching feel like the show ended nicely, instead of .. This, the arcs are concluded, but at what cost?

This show had so much potential and seriously, they could have done way better, Riot you had so many eyes on this final act and it was fumbled imo

Not to say i wont be rewatching it over and over again, bc i will! And theres probably stuff i missed that could change my opinions, but these are just my thoughts for now

Something that bugged me in particular,

I feel like Jinx could have had a little more of a reaction to Ishas death, season 1 showed us how her visions affected her and we barely got any of that in season 2, we didn't even get a Selvika reaction to Isha being gone, like it was completely brushed over that she was even there in the first place so WHY was she even there?? And i feel like the ending with Victor was rushed and confusing, Ekko just hits him in the face and he wakes up from all the lives he's breaking? Huh?? (That part might have to be explained to me bc im still so confused)
