Hi. I recently finished watching Coffee Prince based on a few recs posts that you had put out and MY GOD I'm so glad I decided to give it a try. (This was the first Kdrama where I got past 2 eps) I loved this sooo sooo much.
Do you have any recs for media (queer or otherwise) with similar strong characters as Eun-Chan? Even otherwise, thanks for your great rec posts!
Another Coffee Prince convert! Thank you for telling me, anon, it gives me so much joy every time someone gets to experience it for the first time. And I am not surprised Go Eun Chan captured your heart, everyone who meets her feels the same.
Tumblr media
Since I don't know exactly what about Eun Chan captivated you, I am not entirely sure what kind of characters you are looking for. Is it her generosity of spirit? Is it that endearing mix of bravery and naïveté? Is it the way she keeps going through confusion and uncertainty? Is it that she is just so lacking in artifice and unapologetically herself? Or maybe it's her gender questioning journey that spoke to you.
Given that I am not precisely sure, I am just going to give you a mix of great dramas of various genres with strong characters that give me some aspect of that Eun Chan swag--feel free to come back and ask for more recs if you have something else in mind! In alpha order:
Be Melodramatic (Viki)
Tumblr media
Shan found another excuse to rec Be Melodramatic? Must be a day ending in y. But seriously this drama is full of fantastic characters and there's a strong thread here about being yourself unapologetically and finding the people who love you for that.
Great Men Academy (grey)
Tumblr media
Another character experiencing gender, but this time via a magical-unicorn-induced body transformation (don't ask I could not possibly explain it). This story is all about Love figuring herself out and the bisexual king who loves her in any body.
Healer (Viki)
Tumblr media
Chae Yeong Shin is Park Min Young's best character ever and it's not close. She has a lot of Eun Chan's relentless spirit and optimism in the face of life's nonsense, and she's a spunky one. Healer is also just a great action romance with a lot of fun hijinks and a very swoony male lead, if you're into that kind of thing.
Joshi-teki Seikatsu (Life As A Girl) (grey)
Tumblr media
Miki is an all-time great character. A trans woman rebooting her life away from home, she is more assured about who she is but has a lot of Eun Chan's core generosity and bravery. I love her so much.
Kieta Hatsukoi (Viki)
Tumblr media
Chaotic confusion with a heart of gold, thy name is Aoki.
Koisenu Futari (grey)
Tumblr media
Sakuko, my beloved. This show is about two people on the aroace spectrum connecting and finding companionship and family in each other, and it's so beautiful.
Light on Me (Viki)
Tumblr media
Woo Tae Kyung is definitely sitting at the "unapologetically themselves" table with Eun Chan. And he has a love triangle, too!
My Lovely Sam Soon (Viki)
Tumblr media
If you're up for an even older kdrama, I love this one to pieces. Kim Sam Soon has a lot in common with Go Eun Chan, in that she doesn't perform femininity the way people expect and she is trying to find her place in the world, all while crushing on a guy who feels very out of her league. This is a journey for both lead characters, and I was so moved by where they ended up that I burst into tears at the end.
She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat (Furritsubs)
Tumblr media
My girls!!! I love every character in this show. I don't think it's possible to watch this drama and not find someone to connect with; it's all about exploring the many different ways to be a woman and finding the people who will love and respect you for who you are. And it's very queer while doing it!
Twenty-five Twenty-one (Netflix)
Tumblr media
Na Hee Do is a legend, and not just because of the fencing. This show is her coming of age story and you will love her.
Weightlifting Fair Kim Bok Joo (Viki)
Tumblr media
Kim Bok Joo, another heroine wrestling with her femininity as she navigates coming of age and changing relationships. She's fantastic.
As always, if you have trouble finding any of these, you can always hmu (off anon, because we don't share secret files in public lol). Hope you find something to enjoy among these!

Night Has Come FF (Kyungjun x reader)
Tumblr media
Part: One
YOUR OCCUPATION IS: POLICE OFFICER
You stared at your phone screen, mostly bemused and a little perplexed. You had played mafia with your family as a pre-teen often. So, this strange game app version of the game brought up in you a feeling of pleasant nostalgia.
You looked over to your classmates.
"What is your occupation?" a girl from your class asks with a grin.
"What's the fun in telling each other?" another one said.
You smiled at that. But then something hit you.
"How are we playing this game?" you ask slowly, looking around the circle of classmates around you.
"What do you mean?" girl Nahee asks. You check the icon at the top of your screen to make sure before you answer.
"We have had no internet since coming here, and no signal," you reply.
"Maybe it's part of the game.?" one girl asks. You think it over for a moment. It's possible, but there's a small yet unavoidable feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach.
Before you can respond, your phone buzzes.
GROUP MESSAGE:
Heo Yool: MY TIME TO SHINE GUYS
How can there be a group chat with no signal? You frown at the screen. Then try to restart your phone. But it simply doesn't turn off. You press and press the off button, but nothing happens. Then another buzz from everyone's phone.
¨KIM SO-HEE  HAS VOTED FOR HEO YOOL ¨
¨NAM YEON-WOO HAS VOTED FOR HEO YOOL ¨
¨IM EUN-CHAN  HAS VOTED FOR HEO YOOL ¨
the notifications went on. Almost everyone had voted for Yool. It wasn't that odd really. He was a prankster, and a bad one at that.
"Look. Everyone is voting on Yool. He probably made the game no?" Na-Hee said.
"Yeah, looks like something he would do." Another girl agreed.
"We should vote for him too, right?" Nahee asked. You shrugged, "Yeah why not?"
You all voted for Yool too.
"He'll be so pissed." one girl giggled. You smiled too. Yool would be pissed. He lived for this type of thrill. Being out of the game this soon would be a bummer for him, but if he did really create the game then maybe he would end it and we could go back to our trip.
You got up then with Nahee to find something to eat. You arrived on the 3rd floor at the snack bar and arcade. It looked deserted and closed. The whole snack bar was locked behind a large orange garage door.
"I didn't know they closed this early." You said, staring at the door.
"Yeah, staff maybe took a break?" Nahee suggested. You nodded. You both took off down the silent halls again.
Nahee voiced what you'd been thinking. "Where are the staff anyway? I haven't seen anyone since our teacher left."
"I know. And it's almost 12 by now." you agreed, walking past classmates. A door opened to your left and Yoonseo and Jeongwon and the class president, Junhee walked out. Yoonseo looked rattled. You touched her shoulder. "Het are you alright?" you asked scanning her face. Jeongwon gave you an odd look. Yoonseo nodded, "yeah, thanks y/n." She smiled at you, but then glanced back to look at Kim Somi, the vice president of your class.
At Somi's expression Nahee cursed. "What did she do this time?"
"Nothing. It was nothing." Yoonseo says but you're not convinced.
"Class president! Our teacher isn't back yet. What do we do?" someone asked.
Junhee stopped walking and addressed everyone with one hand on his hip. Somehow, he had authority. Even Kyungjun and his rats turned to listen.
"It's late, so for now let's all go to our assigned rooms, and I'll go out in the morning to look for help." Junhee said. There were some grumbles, but everyone seemed to agree.
You were all in the process of shuffling to your rooms when a sudden blaring alarm sounded all around you.
You instinctively covered your ears. Everyone looked confused. Then a female robotic voice sounded.
¨VOTING HAS ALMOST ENDED ¨
You look at your phone to see a timer counting down time.
At the end of the hall, you spot Yool and his friends. He seems annoyed.
You all decide to just stand there and wait it out. Other kids are pointing fingers at Yool and laughing.
Then the alarm and voice come back.
¨VOTING HAS ENDED. HEO YOOL WITH THE MOST VOTES WILL BE ELIMINATED.¨
Your phone suddenly buzzes.
CHECK THE OCCUPATION OF ANOTHER PLAYER.
You sigh and click a name at random. Nahee's name.
AN NA-HEE IS A CITIZEN
You smile at the screen. Of course, your best friend wasn´t a mafia.
You hear another noise then. Your gaze snaps back to the end of the hall. Yool looks to be in pain. He's clutching his head like he wants to pop it open. You frown and take a step towards him. The sight sets your heart racing. And when he looks up you scream with the rest of some of the students.
Yool's eyes are completely white. No pupil. No iris.
He then proceeds to drop to the floor and pound his head into the stone tile. You scream again as his blood splatters in all directions. He doesn't stop. He keeps going even as you all scream his name.
Then he runs, so suddenly, past you in a blur. He runs through the glass windows at the end of the hall and falls. Dead.
¨HEO YOOL WAS A CITIZEN¨
You stand there, frozen in horror. Your mind can't comprehend anything. You glance up. Across from you is Kyunjun. His eyes are wide with horror. It´s an expression you´ve never seen on him before. Your eyes meet briefly.
Then everything goes black.

Author’s Note: Here’s a new chapter and the next one will be up in another two weeks! It will only be downhill from here...Personally, the ending of this one is my favorite writing so far ♡
Tumblr media
The rest of the hike back to the retreat center is done in silence, no one daring to say a word.
There was no solace found on the journey.
Near death experience.
No way to escape.
Frozen reality.
Where do you all go from here?
Without prompt, Eun-Ha had taken on the responsibility of helping Na-Hee, allowing Hyun-Ho to switch over in support of Dong-Hyun, the latter's arm thrown over the former's shoulder, exhaustion evident in every single heavy step of his.
You can't help but observe how angry your cousin is, more than you've ever seen him before, a deep scowl present on his face. It's typical for him to blame himself when he can't protect someone, and given how you and Dong-Hyun, two of the people he cared for the most nearly lost your lives, you know he's wallowing in self-blame. If the two of you really had passed, you didn't think he'd ever let himself live with that fact.
When your eyes meet, his soften immediately, the dark look on his face passing briefly from the reassurance of the small smile you send his way. You can tell even without his direct confirmation this would become one of the moments that will haunt him forever. Even so, he'll remain strong so as not to worry you and your heart hangs heavy with that knowledge.
Noticing the silent exchange, So-Mi shuffles along in the back while constantly chewing on her nails, glancing between you, Dong-Hyun, and Eun-Ha in succession, more worried for her own life than anyone else's.
When your tears had long dried up, Jun-Hee insisted that he'd carry you on his back the remainder of the way no matter how much you refused. With your arms around his neck, your chin rests on his shoulder and your face is pressed against the side of his.
He's sweating profusely and you pull the sleeve of your blouse down to wipe off the drops that accumulate on his hairline. "Jun-Hee..." you start, a weak whisper.
"Don't," he responds gently. "I know what you're going to say."
"Then put me down, please."
"I won't." He strengthens his hold on your calves, fingers curling and uncurling, itching to touch the scratches, some more severe than others, marring the length of both your legs, the blood yet to dry.
"By the time we make it back, you're going to be in pain."
He turns his head slightly, cheek brushing against yours with an exasperated sigh. "And you think I'm not already in pain when I see you hurt?"
"But I can bear it when I'm hurt alone. I don't want anyone else to suffer because of me. Especially not you."
"Then you, more than anyone, should know how I feel."
Exhaling tiredly, you know there's no point in trying to dissuade him. Relenting, you brush the strands of hair that have fallen into his face out of the way instead, tightening your hold on his shoulders and closing your eyes, succumbing to the deep ache you finally allow yourself to feel.
A few tense minutes later, the group stands in front of the building's glass double doors, everyone stopping to stare.
The trip was pointless and you were all back where you started.
One step forward.
Two steps back.
The moment Jun-Hee pulls at the door, even without opening your eyes, you can tell the hurried footsteps belong to Yoon-Seo and Jung-Won, the two meeting you all by the entrance, having watched and waited the whole time for your return.
You feel a hand on your arm and a gasp follow. "Seol-Hwa..." comes Jung-Won's voice, shocked.
"We saw the notification. What even happened?" Yoon-Seo pats your arm soothingly, backtracking at the look on everyone's faces. "Anyway...it doesn't matter. You don't have to say anything. As long as you're back and safe."
"I'll tell you later," you utter, and Yoon-Seo nods, eyeing your injuries restlessly. Jung-Won's eyebrows are knit in worry, curiosity evident on her face although she doesn't voice it.
The remaining students await in the lobby anxiously and you tap Jun-Hee's shoulders softly to let you down but he doesn't give in. If anything, he only tightens his hold, keeping you close.
Eun-Chan comes running up in surprise. "What happened to Dong-Hyun and Seol-Hwa?" He shifts his gaze between the two of you, eyes widening at the state of Dong-Hyun's ripped clothes streaked with dirt and the bruises littering your skin.
"Say something," Mi-Na presses, voice shaky. "Why do you guys look like this?"
"Dong-Hyun..." So-Mi begins nearly inaudibly, timid. "He thought the line stopped there so he was checking. Then he slipped and Seol-Hwa tried to save him. Both of them..." she pauses, and you bite your lip hard, nearly enough to draw blood, wishing the discussion was anything but this. Her voice alone irritated you. "...Nearly went over the line."
"Funny that you should be the one to recount the story," Eun-Ha states grimly from the back.
"What are you talking about?" Yoon-Seo questions, focusing with rapt attention on Eun-Ha.
"So-Mi here, our role model of a vice president, loves to bend the truth." Eun-Ha's cryptic response has So-Mi fuming, striding over to shove her shoulder back roughly.
"Weren't you the one who told us all to vote for Yool that first night? What about that, huh?!"
"Guys, please calm down—" Yoon-Seo steps in hurriedly to pacify the situation, attempting to pull the two girls apart.
"You love to turn victims into criminals, don't you?" Eun-Ha's eyes blaze with anger, pushing So-Mi's hands away harshly. "As long as it's not you, right?" Eun-Ha crosses her arms and chuckles in So-Mi's face, a sarcastic and dry laugh devoid of humor. "I saw what you did with my own two eyes. Come to think of it, I shouldn't even be surprised. Out of all of us, you would definitely be the one to do it."
"Say it properly so we can understand." Jung-Won walks forward. "Just what the hell happened?"
"She...intentionally led them downhill under the guise of herself having slipped to guarantee that they wouldn't make it out alive." Eun-Ha points between you and Dong-Hyun, the others following with their eyes, the sight matching up.
A few of your classmate's mouths hang open in disbelief while others freeze, trying to process the information as neither you nor Dong-Hyun speak on the matter.
Where you're pressed against his back, Jun-Hee tenses up and you can feel the way his muscles stiffen, jaw clenching and head snapping toward Eun-Ha as he listens, wordlessly seething.
So-Mi rushes over to Dong-Hyun and grabs his hand desperately, the grip unreturned, her hold hanging limply. "Dong-Hyun," she pleads, trying to catch his eye as he avoids it, staring straight at the floor with Hyun-Ho glaring daggers at her. "Tell them that's not what happened."
With bated breath, she awaits his answer but regrets it the moment he speaks up, her face falling. "You didn't catch my hand earlier, so why hold it now?" He looks up at her through narrowed eyes with a look that could kill.
Head shaking, So-Mi drops his hand and falters, taking backward steps toward you as a last resort.
"Seol-Hwa...please." In a crazed manner, she turns to you with an outstretched hand. Before she can so much as graze her fingertips against you, Jun-Hee swivels his body in a way that shields you against her touch.
"Don't you dare lay a hand on her. I won't apologize for my actions if you do." His voice is cold and it makes So-Mi stop immediately, his warning like a slap of cold water across her face.
Not giving up, she turns to the crowd instead. "Are you all really going to believe Eun-Ha, the one who was the first to point fingers at innocent Yool?" She fixes each student with her gaze in turn. "Over me?!"
"What makes you think just being you gives you a pass?!" Eun-Ha slams the backpack she was carrying for Jun-Hee earlier onto the ground, the sound echoing in the still lobby. "Stop acting like you're better than everyone. You would have been a murderer, Kim So-Mi," Eun-Ha spits out with venom, articulating the name like acid that burns her tongue.
"Do you even have any proof, you bitch?!" So-Mi screams.
Calmly, Eun-Ha looks her dead in the eyes. "As if their appearance isn't enough proof," referring to you and Dong-Hyun. "Why are you so defensive then if you're not at fault? The more fervent a denial is, the stronger the confirmation."
"You're cornering me—"
"BOTH OF YOU SHUT THE HELL UP!" Kyung-Jun's voice reverberates in the space and everyone silences. "I don't give a flying fuck what your roles are right now. It's more important whether we can even leave."
He turns to Jun-Hee, regarding you behind his shoulders, eyes flickering over your form, contemplating what Eun-Ha said for a moment before shaking his head. "How far into the village were you able to go? You said you would meet people and call the police. Did you?!" Kyung-Jun's voice gets louder and louder with each sentence.
"We couldn't get anywhere. At least, not a distance that mattered. The entire place is enclosed within the lines and we're trapped here." Jun-Hee's voice is quiet and robotic, clearly hating to be the bearer of bad news.
Kyung-Jun slams his phone to the ground so hard that it ricochets and bounces a short distance away, the screen clattering on the floor.
Yoon-Seo turns in Jun-Hee's direction, looking at him hopelessly. "Then...does it mean we can't leave this place until the game is over?"
Jun-Hee nods remorsefully, the hopes of the rest falling along with his bowed head.
Tumblr media
You're walking up and down the floors of the building aimlessly by yourself when you spot Yoon-Seo tucked into an alcove's corner, sitting in the dark of a resting area with her head down.
Approaching soundlessly, she doesn't notice your presence until you speak up. "Yoon-Seo, are you crying?" You lower yourself into a chair adjacent to hers.
She looks up at you with red eyes brimming with unshed teardrops. The ones that have already managed to escape outline tear marks on her cheeks. "If I hadn't suggested that we could try going to the mountain, neither you nor Dong-Hyun would've almost died. Even Jun-Hee is acting differently. All of you came back like you lost your souls out there." She swipes at her eyes frustratedly, choking up with every word that comes out. "What a stupid thing for me to have said. This is all my fault. I made everyone more hopeless than they already were."
Seeing her so sad hurt your heart as her friend. You didn't blame her one bit. No one could've predicted the events. "You didn't make any of us go, Yoon-Seo." Reaching over, you place your hand over the back of hers, warming her cold ones. "We all volunteered. Even then, at least you were able to think of a solution we could try. You can't resent yourself for not knowing that there wouldn't be a real way out, could you?" You give her a genuine smile as she looks over at you. "So, what will you do? We can't leave this place until the game is over. Are you just going to waste your tears here and mourn our regrets?”
"No," she replies resolutely, placing her other hand on top of yours, making a stack in the middle, both your hands tightening with determination. "We must find another way out, no matter what it takes."
"Count me in," Jung-Won adds as she rounds the corner, joining in, the three of you sitting peacefully and comfortably in each other's presence, discussing what to do going forward. "First, why don't we try searching through the staff lounge again?" she suggests.
As the three of you approach the room, you hear muffled yells mixed in with the sound of the table phones going off.
Swinging the door open reveals Jun-Hee hunched over, screaming into the phone's receiver angrily before swiping all present office materials off the desk's surface and onto the floor.
"Yah! Jun-Hee!" Baffled, Yoon-Seo approaches him and picks up the phone he casted aside.
"What are you doing?" Jung-Won quickly flips the light switch on, bathing the room in a soft yellow glow.
"Why aren't you answering the phone?" Yoon-Seo swiftly presses the phone against her ear, listening before trying a greeting that remains unanswered.
"Forget it!" Jun-Hee yanks the phone from Yoon-Seo's grip harshly and once again, tosses it on the floor to land uselessly amongst the other things he threw away in rage.
Jung-Won glances over at you, concerned. You shut the door and walk toward him, taking his forearms in yours and hold them tight so that he'd stop making a mess of the room. "Jun-Hee, it's Yoon-Seo," you remind, shocked that he would lash out at her like that. Yoon-Seo stands still next to you, staring at him like a stranger.
His frustration boils over, and he withdraws his arms out of your grip, grabbing hold of an empty mug with all intent to smash it against the glass cabinets. Yoon-Seo and Jung-Won clench their eyes shut, prepared for the impact, but before he can chuck it, you throw your arms around his waist, hugging him tight, face pressed against his chest. "Stop! Please, Jun-Hee." In a quieter voice only for him to hear, "For me?" He trembles in your hold before immediately lowering the mug, placing it lightly on the table, all tension finally leaving his body. You pull back enough to look up at him, slightly apprehensive about the repercussions still. "What's gotten into you? You're never like this." He's the calmest person you've ever known, rarely losing his temper when uncalled for.
"It's fake. Everything is," he says, a faraway look in his eyes, irises still burning in anger.
You stretch on your tiptoes and turn his face toward yours so that your eyes can meet. Once his dark eyes focus again on yours, they soften entirely, staring at you deeply.
"What are you talking about?"
Jun-Hee slumps into the chair he was sitting in previously. "The phone lines..." he begins, dishearteningly. "They're severed. Every single one of them."
"What?" you look around the room in incredulity.
Yoon-Seo makes herself busy, going from cubicle to cubicle, confirming that even the computer wires were cut and frayed in the same manner. Closing her eyes, she drags a hand down her face, not sure what to make of the discovery.
"Look at this." Jung-Won flips through file folders and binders organized in a bookshelf by the door, tilting it in your direction. "They're all empty..."
Yoon-Seo sinks into a chair opposite yours as Jun-Hee pulls one out for you, guiding you down by the hand into it before dragging it as close to his as physically possible.
"I'm sorry, Yoon-Seo..." Jun-Hee looks her way guiltily.
"It's okay. I know you were just disappointed." She puts her head in her hands. "I too, feel like I'm about to go crazy the longer we're here." Jung-Won settles atop a desk, turning to Yoon-Seo as her friend voices her ideas. "You know, the person who created this game...What was the reason behind putting us through this? I think we need to find that out before anything else."
Jung-Won spins a pen in her hand, thinking. "Where do you think the creator of this game is? Isn't it just us here?"
"Maybe they sneak in when we fall asleep?" Jun-Hee proposes.
"It's a bit unnerving to think someone is sitting around watching us. Also, what makes us sleep automatically without being able to fight against the feeling?" You revisit the role of the announcements. "If there is someone, how come we never see them but can only hear them?" As an afterthought, you add, "If that's even their real voice or it's modulated."
"They probably killed Ju-Won when we weren't aware."
"No, I don't think so," Yoon-Seo refutes Jung-Won's statement. "We were specifically told that it was done by the Mafia." She shudders at the thought. "Only us students are part of the participants list, so it has to be those hiding among us."
"Right," you agree. "If it was someone else, their name and picture would be listed along with ours."
"They must have also chosen the Mafia members when developing the game." Jung-Won stands up, pacing back and forth. "I don't know how they decided that though, or by what criteria."
"Then, someone in our class really killed Ju-Won in cold blood?" Jun-Hee leans against the chair's headrest.
Yoon-Seo takes a deep breath and exhales heavily. "Unfortunately, according to the rules we all saw, that was more than likely what went down."
A knock interrupts your little gathering before Woo-Ram pokes his head into the room, peeking around the door until he spots Jun-Hee. "There you are. I was looking all over. Everyone's saying it's time to vote, so we should go." He looks around, addressing you, Yoon-Seo, and Jung-Won too. "All of us."
Stepping out into the hallway, Jun-Hee looks at Woo-Ram incredulously. "Yool died after we voted and they still have the heart to go through with that again?"
Sighing, Woo-Ram hangs his head. "What else can we do? We can't leave until the game is over." Na-Hee rounds the corner just then with Hyun-Ho and Dong-Hyun in tow. "None of us have much of a choice."
Yoon-Seo tries to persuade him, regardless of the circumstances. "Still, how can we sacrifice someone? We have to stop them. As a group, we mustn't vote at all."
"Wait, Yoon-Seo." You hold her back from marching off to find the others and talking them out of it. If we want to convince them, we need an alternative otherwise they won't listen."
"I'll do it," Jun-Hee decides with determination. "Are the rest gathered together?"
"No, nearly everyone's in their room," Woo-Ram juts his thumb at the closed doors all down the hallway.
"Can you assemble them for me?"
Woo-Ram nods and Na-Hee agrees to help him round everyone up. "But...there's something you should know." Woo-Ram pulls Jun-Hee aside. "Da-Bum is being cornered by Kyung-Jun's crew downstairs. It was where I saw them last."
Hyun-Ho curses under his breath. "Those bastards. I never liked them." Without waiting any longer, he walks away, Dong-Hyun and Jun-Hee hot on his heels.
You, Yoon-Seo, and Jung-Won all fall into step behind, hoping that nothing had befallen Da-Bum yet at the hands of the cruel group.
It doesn't take long to locate the boys, screaming and shouting heard loud and clear coming from the cafeteria.
Jun-Hee swings the doors open, nearly hard enough to throw it off its hinges as it slams into the wall behind. "That's enough! What on earth are you doing?" Jun-Hee pulls Kyung-Jun away from Da-Bum, jostling Jin-Ha and Seung-Bin away in opposite directions. "What's your deal with him anyway? Is it fun for you to belittle others?"
You run in and help Da-Bum to his feet. "Get up, Da-Bum." A quick glance-over reveals he hasn't suffered too much yet, your group having arrived in time to prevent disaster. Yoon-Seo is by your side in mere moments, assisting to take him away not within reach of the three bullies. Jung-Won directs him backward further from the entrance so that he's blocked by your group, standing where someone would have to go through everyone before getting to him again.
Hyun-Ho steps up, leaving Dong-Hyun to look over all of you. "Three on one guy? Aren't you ashamed of yourselves?" he scoffs with disdain.
"Where do you think you're going?!" Kyung-Jun balls his fists up and makes a beeline for Da-Bum, but Jun-Hee elbows his chest hard, forcing him back.
"Cut it out."
"You can't stop me even if you are the class president." Kyung-Jun slides his upturned eyes over angrily. "Why do I have to listen to you?"
Wanting to help out his friend, Hyun-Ho further adds fuel to the fire by shouldering Kyung-Jun until he lands on the floor.
"You're not the boss of me either." Kyung-Jun balls his hands tightly, staring Hyun-Ho down as he gets back up. "Understood?"
You watch with trepidation, sensing a huge blowup about to take place and not being able to do anything to stop it without escalating the situation.
"You jerks never get it when I say it nicely. Guess I need to teach you a lesson, huh?" Hyun-Ho turns around to grab a metal container off a well-organized display of snacks, smacking Kyung-Jun on the head with it before proceeding to launch him over the very same counter, the table collapsing inward under Kyung-Jun's weight, products flying every which way.
Usually Kyung-Jun would back off and take revenge in some other way when spectators are none the wiser. However, with the presence of so many people, he needed to prove his point and show the control he had, which was in reality, very little. You rear back, knowing that to jump into the middle of this would both be stupid and pointless. Hyun-Ho and Kyung-Jun's rivalry has simmered for a long time with no one truly knowing the real reason behind it.
Seung-Bin looks around, eyes settling on a trash can, immediately upending it to smash against Hyun-Ho. It hits him square in the back and he wavers slightly but doesn't give up.
A kick behind from Kyung-Jun has him pivoting on his heel as the former grabs one of the foldable metal chairs scattered throughout the room to hoist overhead, trajectory sailing toward his opponent.
Luckily, Hyun-Ho ducks right as it brushes atop his head, the chair collapsing into itself and thumping with a loud clang into the opposite wall, sending bagged chips and snacks falling from the shelves upon impact.
The food rains down and Hyun-Ho quickly tosses them in succession at Kyung-Jun's face, the two ending up engaged in a fistfight on pure strength alone, no more creative petty methods as distraction.
Kyung-Jun winds up no match against Hyun-Ho and gets flipped onto his back, crashing into the ground harshly. Seung-Bin and Jin-Ha also get tossed to the side easily, incapable of retaliating for the time being.
Hyun-Ho hovers over Kyung-Jun to pin him to the ground with a tight grip around his collar, forcing him down to the spot.
"Let go of me," Kyung-Jun grits out, thrashing around in vain as Hyun-Ho has no intention of freeing him. "I said let go, you son of a bitch." Though he tries to appear threatening, you watch the rapid rise and fall of his chest, knowing the fight has left him. He's aware that he has lost, fair and square.
Hyun-Ho tightens his hold, squeezing Kyung-Jun's neck hard enough that he starts sputtering, glaring up revengefully. "Then, are you going to finally listen? Will you do as I say?"
Kyung-Jun uses his last spurt of energy to bat Hyun-Ho's fists away from his throat, kicking him off. "Fine, you bastard."
Hyun-Ho brushes off his hands and pants, all the more disgusted at the sight of the messy cafeteria. As he turns to everyone waiting by the door, Kyung-Jun grabs something from the counter, hiding it out of view beside his leg before making a beeline toward Hyun-Ho.
Jun-Hee dashes over and bends his arm back before the rest of you can even register he has in his possession.
You look up to see him wielding a pair of scissors meant to stab Hyun-Ho by way of petty retribution. Without hesitation, you drag Hyun-Ho out from the room, knowing the more Kyung-Jun sees him, the angrier he'll become. "Gaesaekki, get back here! I'm not through with you yet.”
Having had enough of standing around as a mere spectator, you step into the room before Hyun-Ho can stop you, moving Kyung-Jun away from Jun-Hee and stand between them. "Will you give it a rest for goodness' sake?!" He simply fixes you with a steely glare but halts, gauging your reaction. "Can I tell the others what you just did? What do you think they'd say if they knew you were willing to kill someone?" You keep your tone even and face neutral, wanting to appear reasonable rather than confrontational as much as possible. Kyung-Jun relents after a short pause, albeit reluctantly, weighing the consequences. "Come to your senses."
Jung-Won sidles up beside you in support. "What's the point of talking to him?" She points a finger, jabbing it against his chest. "If we vote on you now, everyone else will follow suit. Do you want me to press your name?" Taunting him, she goes so far as to pull out her phone. "I can do it easily. Say the word and I won't think twice."
"You bitch," he grits out between clenched teeth, trying to snatch Jung-Won's device.
You grab his balled-up fist even as he tries to evade it, fingers clenching around the scissors in his right hand. "Drop this now and I promise I won't let the others know." Not backing away from his glare, you stand your ground. "Just stop here."
Surprisingly, Kyung-Jun yields to you, his curled knuckles loosening in your grasp as he thinks better of his odds against your large group. Removing your hand from his, you turn it palm side up, tilting your head toward it. Getting the hint, Kyung-Jun slaps the scissors into your outstretched fingers and steps closer threateningly, lowering his head down to look straight into your eyes. "You better keep to that promise or I won't sit still."
"Aish shibal," Seung-Bin spits out from the corner where he's slumped in a heap nursing his sore arm, forced to surrender.
You regard Kyung-Jun for the last time as you turn to leave, his eyes following when you stop short to mention, "We're all going to gather in the assembly hall in a short while. Come once you've all calmed down."
As everyone files out, Hyun-Ho throws one final remark at the bullies. "You better leave the cafeteria door open and accessible for everyone to use unless you want a repeat of this."
Tumblr media
After the confrontation, you had dragged Hyun-Ho and Dong-Hyun by the ears to the infirmary despite the two of them protesting all the way.
Once there, you push both of their shoulders down onto the beds so hard they bounce back up before settling into the mattress, their weight dipping the material.
You stand before them with arms crossed, eyeing their identical meerkat expressions in all seriousness.
The two look back and forth between one another before glancing back up at you inquisitively, entirely confused.
"Why are we here again?" Hyun-Ho speaks up.
"This is like couple's therapy," Dong-Hyun mumbles under his breath and Hyun-Ho elbows him as you roll your eyes.
"You guys never listen," you scold, flicking both of them above the eyebrows.
"Yah!" They say in unison, hands coming up to their foreheads in sync.
"Always getting into trouble. Making me worried," you mumble, busying yourself around the room gathering supplies.
"Talk about yourself," Hyun-Ho retorts, touching his forehead where a red mark is still imprinted. You press the q-tip you were holding dipped in antiseptic and squish it against his cut lip hard, narrowing your eyes as he winces in pain and flinches away from you. "Watch it! Can't you be a bit gentler?"
"Oops, my bad," you tease with a sarcastic smile. "Tough love."
Dong-Hyun tries to hide his chuckle before you also turn to him with an ice pack in your extended hand and he swallows the next fit of laughter immediately. "It's not funny," he says, suddenly stoic. "Nothing is funny." Looking to the side and up at the ceiling, he begins to whistle, hoping to avoid the same fate as Hyun-Ho.
You laugh, hiding your smile behind your hand. "I don't know. This is pretty funny." You place the ice pack lightly down into his lap, pressing it against his stomach where he slipped face-first down the dirt hill earlier on the cliff.
"Why is he being treated better than me?" Hyun-Ho sulks.
"Because he has more injuries, none of which he intended to have." Dong-Hyun sticks his tongue out at Hyun-Ho, enjoying being off the hook. "And you," you start, tapping your forefinger against Hyun-Ho's forehead, shoving it back lightly. "You willingly put yourself into less than desirable situations without thought and get hurt for fun."
"This time there was a reason!" Hyun-Ho argues. "It's not fair for them to act all mighty when they're really nothing."
You sigh, dabbing his lip and some scratches visible on his face with ointment so that it'll heal faster. "I know there is," you concede. "But do you think Kyung-Jun cares about that?" You step back and look at the boys in front of you. "This game...we don't know how it will end. It's best if we try to avoid conflict as best we can. We can't begin to imagine what anyone is capable of with ill intent and a deep-seated grudge that refuses to go away."
"We can protect you!" Dong-Hyun chimes in. "I owe you my life."
You run a hand through your hair, fond but exasperated. "I don't want you guys to have to risk your own wellbeing for mine. I can take care of myself, you know?"
"We know," Hyun-Ho answers. "But that doesn't make us any less worried for your safety."
"Then, can you at least promise me to put your safety before my own? Please?" you plead, knowing how the boys are, unyielding in their principles. You step forward and pull them both into an embrace, their arms coming around you immediately and squeezing tight, the circle becoming smaller in the group hug.
"Are you trying to convince us with your affection or what?" Hyun-Ho's voice comes out muffled where his face is pressed into your shoulder.
"Depends," you say. "Is it working?"
"Feels weird. We never hug."
"Don't get used to it."
For once, Hyun-Ho is solemn, hugging you tighter. "Promise."
"I don't hear anything from you Dong-Hyun," you tease.
He pats your back firmly. "I promise."
"We'll all make it out of here together," you say to them quietly. "Wherever we go, as long as we have one another."
With one last squeeze, you release the two of them, insisting that they head to the auditorium first while you clean up the infirmary. By how the game was already going, you felt like this was as good a place as any to know like the back of your hand. Heavens knows more and more will be injured the longer this goes on.
You've only just started looking through the medical supply cabinet when the door to the room slams open, bounding off the wall with a hard thump.
A hand placed over your heart in shock, you swivel your head toward the sound, seeing Kyung-Jun with one foot nudging the door open, keeping it from swinging shut.
Looking behind him with his hands in his pockets, he hasn't yet realized you were even in the room at the moment. As he sighs and lifts his head from the previous position, his hand also reaches up toward his face, touching his split lip.
You're gawking still, bandages in one hand and antiseptic in the other. It was unusual to see Kyung-Jun look, if you dared to say it, so down and defeated.
Finally, he steps over the threshold and kicks the door closed behind him, looking up and stilling as his eyes make contact with yours. You don't miss them widening slightly, clearly expecting the room to have been unoccupied.
Without saying a word, he turns on his heel about to leave, but putting the clues together, you stop him in his tracks.
"You clearly came for something."
"That's none of your business," he replies evenly, one hand on the doorknob.
"Then, I'll leave so you can stay," you offer.
You see his fingers slackening from the handle before he spins around again, analyzing you. The silence is uncomfortable, and his penetrating gaze, suffocating. Whatever it is he was searching for in your expression finally settles a look of indifference over him, his shoulders slumping.
"No." He takes a few steps forward, still staring at you. "You were here first."
Your eyebrows knit together, not quite understanding. "Come again?"
He purses his lips together, clearly regretting having remained in the room when he should've left. "Stay and do whatever you need to do and I'll wait until you're done."
Kyung-Jun plops himself on the bed Hyun-Ho and Dong-Hyun were just seated on earlier and the atmosphere is such a stark difference, you're tempted to pinch yourself to see if you happened to be hallucinating. Never in your right mind would you ever think you and Kyung-Jun could be in the same place at once without the former going on a rampage. You two were not the type of people who belonged together in any type of setting.
He leans against the hospital bed frame and kicks his leg out on the length of it, remaining quiet.
Decidedly, You don't say anything more and go back to sorting through the supplies, earnestly wanting to get out of the room as soon as possible. The only reason you didn't go escaping at the first sight of Kyung-Jun was you didn't want him to think you feared him at all in any capacity. He always used others' distress as leverage against them to remain in control and you weren't going to fall prey to that trap.
"When will you be done?" he asks, and you can feel the slight irritation in his voice rising.
"Soon," you counter curtly, disregarding his presence. Despite that, you can feel his stare fixated on the back of your head.
You hear rustling followed by liquid sloshing and you turn around just in time to see Kyung-Jun about to smear something on his face from a suspicious bottle that looks a lot like the one you told Na-Hee to use for her foot. You scurry over in a haste and yank it away from Kyung-Jun.
"What the fuck?!" He curses, as a q-tip drops from his hand, tumbling to the floor. His eyes are narrowed in slits as he glowers at you. "Didn't I tell you to do your thing and I'll do mine?"
"This..." you reveal to him in an even tone, pointing to the brown bottle, "...is for the feet only."
His eyes shift over to the label on the bottle he definitely did not read earlier in your grasp. If you didn't know any better, you would say he looks a little sheepish and embarrassed at the blunder.
"Aish," he groans, hand once again going to his lip as the wound stretches from the movement of forming words.
Shaking your head, you walk back to the cabinets, setting the bottle on a high shelf and grabbing the antiseptic you stored away earlier. With new cotton swabs and circular bandaids in hand, you approach Kyung-Jun and place it on the bedside table.
"I'll do it for you."
"I didn't ask."
"First, you came here to the infirmary for an obvious reason," you start ticking off on your fingers what you've observed. "Two, you could've kicked me out like you usually do to others that are in your space." He makes to speak but you plow on, unperturbed. "And finally, the third and most important point, you clearly don't know what you're doing." You look at him with a pointed stare. "Isn't that why you allowed me to stay? You weren't going to ask for help, but on the off chance you swallow your pride and decide to, it's better to have someone here. Am I wrong?"
"No, but I don't like to admit that I am."
"You can try, starting from today."
That draws a smirk from Kyung-Jun. "I like you better than Hyun-Ho." He glances up at your face again from his seated position, swinging his legs over the side and onto the ground, scooting to the edge and closer to you. "You have guts," he says, tapping his forefinger near his lip. "Go ahead." He visibly has to bite his tongue after, inwardly reprimanding himself for having said it at all. Shaking himself out of it, Kyung-Jun closes his eyes and lifts his chin up, inclining his head toward yours.
He's tall even as he's sitting, and you have to lean forward, bending at the waist to be able to clean both his lip and his forehead wound. It wasn't hard to fall out of favor with Kyung-Jun who more or less saw everyone like a thorn in his side, yet for some unknown reason, he tolerates you—back in the cafeteria and even now.
You pause with a swab in hand, not exactly sure how to touch his face. The wait has him opening his eyes, one at a time until they're focused on you, gaze steadfast. "Don't get scared now." He pulls your free hand against the side of his face in a much gentler manner than you expected. "I don't bite."
You look up at him, considering, and he lifts his brows at you. "We'll see."
The corner of one side of his lips quirk up in amusement, but he doesn't say anything else, opting to stare straight at you as you work, easily disinfecting the hurt areas and applying ointment after, waiting for it to dry before you can cover it up. Kyung-Jun's eyes lazily trail the path of your pupil's movements as you inspect the wounds, but he sits still otherwise, not flinching at all, no matter how deep you press the q-tip in certain spots.
"You sure have a high pain tolerance," you intone more so to yourself, having a habit of voicing your thoughts at times.
"I do, but I can't lie that this still hurts like a bitch."
"And you decided to not say anything?"
"You're gentle."
You tilt your head at him in perplexity, and he runs a frustrated hand through his hair. "Don't give me that look."
"What look?"
He doesn't say anything anymore, and you don't push it, bewildered and curious all at once. You were genuinely confused. His labile personality was giving you whiplash but you power through it and finally place the bandaids on him, stepping away.
"You didn't give me weird themed ones, did you?" He inquires suspiciously, tapping both bandaids to make sure.
"Of course not. That would be a waste of the nice ones."
He studies you for a moment, halting his movements before finally getting back up to his feet. "Don't tell anyone I was here." Gone was his usual bravado and you finally understand why he had ditched Seung-Bin and Jin-Ha back in the cafeteria, along with the explanation for his shifty actions prior to entering the room. He didn't want to be seen as weak.
"I wouldn't dream of it," you confirm resolutely, finding no necessary reason to ever bring it up to anyone anyway.
"I mean it." Kyung-Jun points a finger at you. "If you do, I'll kill you."
"People who truly want to kill someone won't announce it beforehand. They just will."
Kyung-Jun lowers his arm, having been caught in his bluff and contemplates your very nature at the core, stare lingering before shaking his head to himself and striding toward the door. As he opens it to step outside, he pivots and casts his attention on you once more. "That look... I hate it like crazy." It finally registers to you that he was circling back to what he said earlier. "Your eyes...." he pauses, gaze flitting back and forth between your own. "Some people will misunderstand and think you actually care."
With that, he leaves, and you're left in the dark wondering if by some people he was referring only to himself.
As you finally make it to the gymnasium, everyone is congregated in a circle, the atmosphere tense and somber. You slip in beside Jun-Hee with Yoon-Seo to your right cradling her phone.
"I gathered all of you here not to decide whom we should vote for, but to give up on voting for good," Jun-Hee starts, hushed murmurs spreading through the crowd.
"Abandon voting?" someone probes with uncertainty. "Are you sure about that?"
"If we vote, one person is guaranteed to die. If we don't, we all stay alive."
"What if we agree to this but someone votes in secret. What will you do then?"
Although Mi-Na wasn't outrightly rejecting the idea, you didn't think she was really in favor of it either, going by the questions she brought up, her wariness ran high. You didn't blame her for you could count on one hand those you without reasonable doubt one hundred percent trust.
"She has a point," Ji-Soo concurs. "How can we truly believe you that this is the best option for us all?" Yu-Jun doesn't chime in, settling for taking glances at his girlfriend as he quietly debates the suggestion.
"We should at least try to trust one another," Jun-Hee resolves. "We can collect the phones so no one will be allowed to vote."
Eun-Ha nods, deep in thought. "He's right. That'll work." You look over at her, analyzing her actions and statements up until now. Call it your astuteness or pure instinct, but she in no way, shape, or form struck you as a Mafia member.
Ji-Soo continues to dissect Jun-Hee's idea, not so readily agreeable. "Who's going to guard the phones, then? The person in charge might change their minds last minute."
She's not wrong per se, given that your classmates were willing to go through with murder, a small betrayal like this didn't seem too far fetch.
Yoon-Seo gestures with her phone to the center of the court. "In the middle. We can all keep watch over it."
"What if someone steals it?" Mi-Na adds in, looking around at everyone's faces lacking confidence. "I'm not doing it." She takes a step back, crossing her arms and hiding her phone. "Don't count on me handing in my phone."
"I think it's a decent plan," Yu-Jun speaks up weakly, daring to take a peek at his girlfriend this time, linking arms with her. "Let's give our phones, yeah?"
Ji-Soo retracts her arm, rounding on him, her open blouse flapping wildly. "Are you crazy?!"
As the couple argues back and forth much less strained than you expected, probably due to Yu-Jun's calm demeanor and ability to recognize Ji-Soo's short temper, it helps her simmer down somewhat, the two going on to hold a conversation despite their differences.
"Can't you live without your phone for a few minutes?!" Joo-Young outbursts against Mi-Na, reaching out toward her friend's mobile device.
Mi-Na evades Joo-Young's hands and sidesteps the circle. "Why the hell are you yelling at me?!" Angrily, she tugs her hair roller out from its strong hold on her bangs and tosses it to the floor in a show of defiance.
"Gosh, you all are noisy and annoying," Kyung-Jun bellows, everyone immediately shutting up. "Banjang is actually making sense for once. Why won't you cooperate?" Looks are thrown around the room, curious as to why Kyung-Jun is siding with Jun-Hee. He doesn't agree with anyone or follow the rules, gladly making his own to follow. When no one says a word, Kyung-Jun grits his teeth and fixes everyone with a menacing stare. "I'm not asking. I'm telling you to do it, and you better damn well listen to me when I'm being nice." He emphasizes the end of his sentence, purposefully throwing it in Hyun-Ho's direction, echoing the words relayed to him previously.
The wait that follows is excruciating after Kyung-Jun collects phones and thumps the trash can haphazardly into the center ring. You and Yoon-Seo had tied white ropes in a line and placed it around the receptacle, enclosing it within, almost like no-man's land.
[ ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ ɪs ᴀ ᴍɪɴᴜᴛᴇ ʟᴇғᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴠᴏᴛᴇ. ]
No matter how many times you hear the announcement, it still makes goosebumps run across your skin and your hair stand on end, habituated to expect the deathly siren to follow.
"Yah Prez, are you sure we'll be alright?" Seung-Bin probes, head in his hands and fingers running through his buzzed hair repetitively, visibly anxious.
Calmly, Jun-Hee replies to him but doesn't take his eyes away from the collection bin. "Let's just wait a little longer. It's not midnight yet."
"Fuck this shit..." Seung-Bin curses as he settles down, trying to manage his restlessness by wringing his hands in his lap instead.
All around you, your classmates are either sitting frozen with eyes unmoving from the center, biting their nails to the nub, or pulling their hair out in worry, scattered in various spots. Some are in chairs, others are on the floor, and the remaining are lying down like they've given up already.
You're no better, sitting cross-legged with your eyes transfixed on the clock by the exit sign, unwilling to remove your eyes from the second hand. 30 seconds to go. Every tick of the black plastic has your heart beating along with it, palpitations irregular and resoundingly loud in your ears. You don't realize you're bouncing your leg repeatedly against the heel of your foot below it until Jun-Hee lays a warm palm on the exposed skin of your knee, just below the cover of your skirt and you turn to him, his eyes silently questioning.
You nod and smile back, trying to not make it as strained as it feels. His touch is a welcoming distraction in forcing you to stop staring at the numbers on the clock you've been so focused on that the printed dots and dashes begin to blur into a swipe of black and white, hypnotizing you.
All of a sudden, Woo-Ram springs up, his metal hair skidding back as the legs screech against the wooden floors. He points with a shaky finger toward the clock. "Hey, hey, hey." He pats those next to him hurriedly. "It's past midnight now and there was no announcement. Did it work...?"
You whip your head toward the clock and sure enough, it was now well past twelve, time ticking by so much faster than when you were waiting on it.
"Have we made it?" So-Mi's eyes widen in shock, the first time you've seen a true reaction from her not screened by her fake acting.
"We did it..." Jun-Hee whispers as you both spring to your feet, unable to believe in the miracle of a loophole.
Joo-Young turns to Mi-Na, grabbing and shaking her in excitement. "It's over! We've beaten the game!"
Jun-Hee draws you into a triumphant hug, holding you close. You can feel the smile on his face as he presses his cheek against yours. He's squeezing you so tight, it almost lifts you off the ground, your arms winding around his neck as you stretch on tiptoes, celebrations breaking out all around you.
In a matter of seconds, the smile drops right off of your face and your throat closes up as the alarm blares incessantly, signaling a broken rule.
Jun-Hee's arms fall from around your waist as he falters back, staring at the intercom, almost wishing he could will it away.
[ ᴘᴀʀᴛɪᴄɪᴘᴀɴᴛs ᴍᴜsᴛ ᴠᴏᴛᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪғʏ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴀғɪᴀ. ]
Without a second thought, Joo-Young scurries toward the trash can of phones.
"What are you doing?!" Hyun-Ho yells to closed ears.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Joo-Young counters, spinning around to look at him, crazed. "Nothing else but grabbing my phone." She gestures wildly at everyone's sheer panic. "And if we do nothing only to die? Are you going to take responsibility?!"
"You can't return lost lives and you know it," Mi-Na reiterates, hastily moving to where Joo-Young is standing right on the ropes acting as a barrier.
"Wait..." Jun-Hee splutters.
"For what are we hesitating? We're still doomed," Joo-Young says with frustration.
"Stop blaming Jun-hee and settle down," So-Mi states from her spot on a chair, unmoving. Her friends listen to her for the time being and you wonder what she has over their heads that they willingly cater to her and heed her every beck and call.
Mi-Na's abrupt scream pierces the room as a body unexpectedly drops from atop the bleachers onto the floor with a sickening thud.
Your blood runs cold as you eye your fellow classmate, knowing a drop from that height would've crushed her organs resulting in internal hemorrhage with only fatality as the outcome.
There's no salvation.
Your hands shake and you have to clasp them together hard enough that your knuckles lose all color. Even then, they continue to tremble.
You wonder belatedly if in this position you could pray. Would the gods offer saving grace, or have they abandoned you too?
Instantaneously, another body plops down on top of the previous one, the impact so hard the corpses rebound off the ground before plopping with listless limbs back to the floor, the cracking of bones clacking.
Blood pools, a sea of red expanding vaster and vaster.
[ ғᴏʀ ʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴜʟᴇs, ʟᴇᴇ sᴏᴏ-ʙɪɴ ᴀɴᴅ ᴘᴀʀᴋ ᴊɪ-ʜᴏᴏɴ, ᴡʜᴏ ᴡᴇʀᴇ ʙᴏᴛʜ ᴄɪᴛɪᴢᴇɴs, ᴡɪʟʟ ʙᴇ ᴇxᴇᴄᴜᴛᴇᴅ. ]
"Grab your phones if you don't want to wind up like them!" Kyung-Jun shouts across the gymnasium as someone chucks the trash can overhead and phones scatter every which way.
Complete pandemonium and utter chaos ensue as every single person resort to crawling on all fours to locate their phones, no less like grave sinners atoning for their wrongdoings, groveling for leniency and forgiveness.
[ ғᴏʀ ʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴜʟᴇs, ᴏʜ ᴊɪɴ-sᴇᴏᴋ ᴡɪʟʟ ʙᴇ ᴇxᴇᴄᴜᴛᴇᴅ. ᴏʜ ᴊɪɴ-sᴇᴏᴋ ᴡᴀs ᴀ ᴄɪᴛɪᴢᴇɴ.]
Jun-Hee's legs give out and he falls onto the floor, staring lifelessly into the void of the room, unblinking, overcome by the burden of guilt and the deaths he sentenced innocent individuals to inadvertently.
"Jun-Hee..." you call out weakly as you kneel beside him, receiving no answer for the first time.
A deafening silence befalls upon the room as bodies continue to barrage down with every passing minute from the rafters, lifeless forms hurtling to the ground with abandon amidst the crimson flashing lights.
The danger.
The warning signs.
Red as pure evil.
Why didn't anyone see it sooner?
Why didn't you?
But how could you? When Jun-Hee's still here in front of you, dressed in white, like a fallen angel succumbed to watching human suffering. Your eyes can only see him even in the shroud of red, but you're forced to remove your rose-tinted glasses. No, this shade of red isn't the color of love, of ardor, or of vitality.
It is the color that dyes the remnants of anger, uncontrolled flames, and stains of blood.
Not even the gentle flashes of white associated with light, goodness, and transcendence can mask the deep hue permeating all around.
Instead of peace, you see madness.
Instead of bliss, you see misery.
Instead of life, you see death.
No more did the divine exist in white.
The gods aren't here—you're all alone.
Yet, try as you might, how can you dare to blame the gods when humans are the most dangerous of all?
Unforgiving.
Unrelenting.
Self-persevering.
Plain naïve.
You had hoped—hoped so desperately.
But to hope is to risk disappointment. Now it's gone and left, leaving you exposed and vulnerable, clinging onto the shreds of previously existing innocent expectations.
The space has become a battlefield littered with bodies and drenched in torrents of blood.
Red meant war.
And you're losing the fight.

Fandom: Seventeen (SVT) (boyband)
Relationships: !Idol-boyfriend S.coups x !f non-idol reader
Summary: You are going through something that is going to be very life changing for you and S.coups, but you try to keep pushing for him, yourself and everyone else.
P.s. this is based off my current experience with being sick, and I just wanted to write about it with one of my comfort idols. S.coups, but mainly all of svt, and a few more kpop groups and idols have been keeping me out of a dark place since I've been diagnosed with my chronic histoplasmosis disease in my left lung.

As you lay in your hospital bed, weak and vulnerable after the lung surgery, S.Coups never left your side. He held your hand tightly, providing comfort through his mere presence when he could be there.
"Hey babe, how are you feeling?" S.coups said as he gently brush your wild hair out of the way. You smile softly, yet full of pain that can be seen. "Ugh... I'm in pain but having you here makes it bearable."
S.Coups pout slightly as he puts your hair in a silk bonnet that look brand new. "I'm not going anywhere; I'll be right here with you until you're back on your feet."
Throughout your time together at the hospital, S.Coups took on various roles - caregiver, cheerleader, and confidant. He made sure you, his darling Y/n followed all medical instructions while also showering you with love and affection.
"Ya, Y/n don't forget to take your medication on time; it will help speed up your recovery." He says in a soft tone as he breaks your pill in half so it'll be easier for you to swallow.
You roll your eyes at him with a cheesy grin on your face. "I hate taking pills... but if it means getting better sooner so we can go on that vacation we planned... I maybe can make an exception."
"Exactly! We have so many adventures waiting for us once you're fully recovered... plus I owe you front row seats to our concert that's coming to town soon, and the boys really want to see you." He stated as he sat one the recliner that was in your room.
Slowly as the weeks progressed with you getting better the conversations were filled with laughter, and light banter as you reminisced about past memories; plus shared dreams for the future. You loved how he found a way to take time off... to fly to the hospital that you had surgery at during his busy schedule all for you.
One evening while watching Twenty-five, Twenty-one together; your eyes filled with tears as you thought about the uncertainty of her condition.
Pausing the show, you sit up with tears in your eyes. "What if something goes wrong, Seungcheol?" You asked as you look at the wires and medical machines you were hooked to.. trying to contain the tears that weren't fully out of your eyes. "What...what if it comes back but worse like the doctor said it would if they didn't... they didn't get it all out of me."
S.Coups quckily shushed you and pull you closer into his body as he laid in the hospital bed with you. "Hey, hey, hey darling..don't think like that. You're strong, and we'll get through this together. I love you... Y/n my sweet darling, and I made a promise to you when we made us official, baby. Thorough thick and thin, me and you til the end... princess."
You sighed as you look in his eyes for any tells of him lying to you, but giving in once he kisses the tip of your nose. "I love you too, and I thank you for all that you have done for me while being a busy man for yourself." You say as you try to catch your breath once again for the 3rd time that day.
He just shushed you once more in a caring yet loving way, and turned Twenty-five, Twenty-one back on. "Let's focus on Na Hee-do and Baek Yi-jin for now, yeah." He stated as he wiped your tears and kissed your left temple.
S.Coups' unwavering support and reassuring words provided you with the strength to face your fears head-on. As days turned into weeks, the growth of your health gradually improved, thanks to S.Coups' constant care and encouragement... even with his busy schedule as an idol.
Finally, the day arrived when you were discharged from the hospital. S.Coups couldn't hide his excitement as he helped you and your mom who was also taking rotation shifts with him pack your belongings.
S.Coups pushes you in the wheelchair to the car as he thinks about what he is planning to feed you when your mom isn't feeding you what she has cooked with love for you. "No more hospital food! We can finally enjoy your favorite homemade meals again."
You shook your head with a chuckle as you both reach the car. "And no more uncomfortable beds! I can't wait to sleep in my old yet still cozy bed." You state as you get in your moms freshly cleaned car to head to your childhood home to recover properly, and safely.
You and S.Coups knew that your love had triumphed over adversity, and so much more. The both of you were ready to face whatever challenges life threw your way, knowing that together the both of you could conquer anything, especially with the love, and care you had for each other.

I want to adore The Atypical Family but I really can't.
I won't deny that Da Hae and Gwi Ju have great chemistry. The problem is that Gwi Ju is genuinely in a state of mass depression plus an alcoholic. She's exploiting that, particularly his innate want to take care of his daughter. He wants to take care of I-Na, but legitimately cannot because of his depression and alcoholism.
Da Hae is also manipulating and using I Na, who already is vulnerable and feels invisible. It's not 100% clear to me if Da Hae's brother meant to allow I-Na to see him following her (though given this family I lean towards deliberate) but if so, a major fuck you to Da Hae and her brother for terrorizing a 13 yo so they could "rescue her".
Mostly I want Gwi Ju to get therapy and rehab, so he can heal, mend his relationship with his daughter and be there for her. I kinda don't want him anywhere near Da Hae. Though given she's the only one in colour when he travels back in time, the only one he can physically interact with her when he does and he'll be the one to save her from the fire she was in, he'll magically recover from depression and alcoholism etc... meh.
Da Hae and her family are interesting characters. I am curious about their background.
I do love I Na, and I am pretty invested in her and her well being. I wonder how long she's known about her power. I suspect she's had it for a while had has hidden that. She's extra sensitive about people touching her glasses so I think that while she really does need them to see, they also hinder her power. Also, I looked up the actress because I would have sworn she was 9 or 10 but she's 12. Either I have no idea what a 12/13 yo looks like or she's legitimately tiny.
I do like the sister and how she's suspicious Da Hee (for good reason). I just want her to be happy.
The mother/grandmother is a horrible person. I loathe her. Honestly, if it didn't impact Gwi Ju, Dong Hee and I Na, I would gladly cheer Da Hae and co draining her of her money.

a colossal disaster ~ impossible heir final reflections
Tumblr media
I recently finished watching the last two episodes of impossible heir and I am convinced that this show will go down as one of the biggest disappointments of 2024. After being a close follower of Lee Jae Wook's career for several years, I was excited about him playing another cold traumatized morally ambiguous character. However, there are too many weaknesses in the writing that cannot be made up by the spectacular acting from Lee Jae Wook, Lee Jun Young, and Choi Hee Jin. We all already know how I feel about Hong Su Zu and her character Na Hye Won. Like many predicted, the big reveal in this show is that Lee Jun Young's character Kang In Ha is a backstabber that has been secretly plotting to frame his best friend Han Tae Oh as the murderer of Kang In Ju in order to fulfill his dream of ascending the Kang-oh throne.
I do think that the shift in In Ha's becoming an overly ambitious fake friend was somewhat well justified with the writing. There were signs in the earlier episodes that he saw Tae Oh as his "dog" and held very little regard for him. One notable example is him "stealing" Na Hye Won despite being very well aware that Tae Oh had a crush on her. When In Ha is finally recognized by his father as his son, In Ha makes several independent decisions without consulting Han Tae Oh- suggesting the very early signs of a schism between the two men. However, its hard to swallow that out of nowhere he becomes capable of conspiring in the murder of his own brother, his best friend, the man that helped him kill his brother, his father, and finally, physically assaulting his wife and having her institutionalized against her will. What is actually quite bewildering in all of this has to be the relationship between In Ha and Mo Gi Ju, the murderer of Kang In Ju.
In last week's episodes, we are shown that Han Tae Oh comes across video evidence from the murder scene, which directly implicates Mo Gi Ju and Kang In Ha. This subsequently allows Tae Oh to be declared innocent and have his charges dismissed. When Gi Ju is interrogated, he refuses to disclose In Ha as his co-conspirator and in the last episode, we see that Gi Ju initially considers In Ha to be his friend. This is what is incredibly perplexing because at what point in the plot did these two become friends? It's one thing to be co-conspirators or to make a mutually beneficial deal, but to become close friends to the point that one of them is willing to take all the blame to protect the other? This is a loose thread in the plot that the show runners never seem to take the time to address.
Another thing that is never explained in the show is In Ha's extensive connections with the prison system. However, this could just be me being picky and maybe in the short span that he was able to be recognized as a legitimate son, he also was able to bribe a prison guard to help him carry out his dirty work. Despite these flaws, I will say that Lee Jun Young is absolute perfection when it comes to playing a maniac.
Apart from this arc, one of the biggest flaws in the last episode was the drastic shift in the characterization of Kang Seong Ju, one of In Ha's older brothers, who along with his mother was scheming to become the CEO of the company. However, after his mother's arrest, Seong Ju tearfully exclaims to his mother that he's sick of vying for the top and wants to prioritize his happiness. This is a sharp departure from his conduct just a few days prior when he was attempting to fill the vacuum left by his father's illness. What is even more difficult to swallow is the sudden respect that Seong Ju develops for Tae Oh, even going as far as respecting him as the next chairman of Kang Oh and bowing to him even though like everyone else in the family apart from Hui Ju, believed that Tae Oh was lesser than and a threat to their ambitions due to his proximity to the chairman. Seong Ju's arc is almost too good of an ending that you can't help but feel that the writers resorted to deus ex machina in order to tie all the ends.
Hye Won as usual was a disappointment and its confusing why they would market her as a main character when she had barely any lines or things to do in this episode. She has been one of the weakest female characters I have seen in a while with her existence mainly serving as a prop used to justify the conflict between the two men. She, herself, does very little to move the plot forward. Perhaps one of the saving graces of the show and the only reason I stuck with watching it is a brief scene that we see in the last few minutes of the show. Kang Hui Ju decides that she is going to travel the world and during the three year time leap, we see Tae Oh smiling at a picture of Hui Ju in Cancún, which she sends as her "survival update". The ending is very open-ended and ambigious, but if you were me, you interpreted it as Tae Oh finally reciprocating his feelings for Hui Ju.
While The Impossible Heir has been an utter disappointment, one of the good things about the show was the chemistry between Hui Ju and Tae Oh. Luckily, this has captivated the minds of some amazing writers and there's a flourishing AO3 page for the show with some of the best angst fanfics I've seen in a while.
Rating: 1.0/5.0

You know what keeps me awake at night, its not the fact that Hee do and Yejin broke up. Its the ending scene where we see a security question on a computer screen,
Who was your first love?
And someone types: Na Hee Do.
She was his first love. Yes we grow out of first loves, i did. But i didn't have that kind of love. I didn't have the bonding like Hee do and Yejin. So for me it make sense. But for them, it doesn't make sense at all. The Hee Do i know never left Yejin, not when he disappeared without saying a word. The Yejin i know fought for Hee Do. The Hee Do i know compromised on Yejin being late on their dates. The Yejin i saw, read a fencing report like a poetry sonnet. They would've made different choices. They probably take some time off, but they would've found their way back to each other, like they always did.

Over 240,000 words, 45+ chapters, written over 4 and a half years. Blood, Water is complete.
Tumblr media
This post is long overdue. I finished the fic over 6 months ago (can you believe it?!) and I’ve been caught up in things offline, to put it lightly. But on the 5th (!) anniversary of the posting of the first chapter, i thought there was no better time than to, finally, put this out.
I really couldn’t have finished this work without all the love and support i received while it was being posted. I know we like to say to write for yourself, not the crowd, but god that support really motivated me and brought so much happiness to my life. And i hope i was able to return some of that to you, through my work.
Well you’ve all waited long enough. Let’s get started!
The inspiration of fic title is given in the fic summary. Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. Although this quote is attributed as the full version of the common adage blood is thicker than water, it actually isn’t! It was coined later, though i don’t know by whom. (i actually didn’t know this when i first wrote the fic, but i stand by the quote—it’s great and very fitting)
I think i came up with the title like minutes before i posted the first chapter. I ended up posting it impulsively, kind of. I knew it was gonna be a big project but i wasn’t thinking about my other ongoing fics at the moment, i was so excited and i just had to start sharing this one
The entirety of the fic was written in a Google Doc titled Vampire 8.
Seonghwa’s favorite kaomoji (as referenced in Chapter 11) is (❁´◡`❁)
All the prominent vampires in this have ‘unsexy’ ages, and that’s on purpose. I wanted to do something different from the typical centuries-old vampires. So, instead, at roughly 200 years Seonghwa is the oldest, while Mingi would still be a young man if he hadn’t been turned
Don’t ask about the progression of time in this fic. It went on so long (i wrote this over literal years) i genuinely forgot
I like to write other idols into my fics, and this one is no exception. Most prominent would be VIXX (current and ex members) as the coven essentially in charge of the vampire world, but there’s also Monsta X’s Minhyuk, whose conversation with Yeosang was brought up in Chapter 22.
All our main coven’s makers were named after famous Korean actors and actresses. Ji Sung for Wooyoung and Yeosang, Nam Ji Hyun for Jongho, and of course Kim Tae Hee for Seonghwa. Mingi’s maker is never referred to by name but her name is Nara, after Jang Na Ra.
Author has a cameo in Chapter 6! Cashier staring shamelessly at Seonghwa in his full vampiric glory :’)
Seonghwa’s real-life fits were often used as inspiration, but one was straight-up duplicated. This was of course the teal turtleneck + mushroom hair combo from the amusement park date in Chapter 13.
I did do a little color theming for some characters, but nothing too strong. We have red for Hongjoong, turquoise/teal for Seonghwa, purple for San, and gold for Yeosang.
Another theme i love for all my writing is space. Seonghwa and his planet/star comparison is probably the most obvious. Personally, i have a lot of fondness for the framing of Wooyoung and Yeosang as the sun and moon, and then the addition of San as the Earth.
There have been some questions about the systemic issues in world of Blood, Water that i’ve kind of avoided answering because i wanted to focus on the immediate, personal story. But basically vampires are an open secret in the world that the government continues to staunchly deny. The vampire population has historically been very, very small. Vampire society, as a whole, didn’t exist until recently. Around 20 years ago, the government decided to crack down and eliminate the vampire ‘issue’ once and for all, leading to the hunting days that cost many vampires their lives—including Yeosang and Wooyoung’s maker, Jisung. When the regime changed, the new government stopped the state-operated vampire hunting. The blood den/club business that had always operated on a small scale—accessible only to the most connected/wealthy vampires—grew and even regular vampires (and humans) could get in. This reduced the ‘mugging’ operations less well-off vampires had to resort to, but bred new problems. Increased vampire-human interactions resulted in more turnings. By the start of the Blood, Water timeline, vampire population has started to outpace the blood available at the blood dens. Vampires of a certain level of society, like Seonghwa, are strongly advised not to turn any more new vampires, because soon the problem might get too big to hide.
Technically there is no vampire leader, although the authority everyone defers to is Hakyeon and his coven. But, as Hakyeon himself would say, they’re not a government—they’re businessmen. Anything they do—keeping the surrounding areas safe, putting down dangerous vampires, providing blood and feeders for newborns and adults—is to keep their business running smoothly. Vampire society is officially lawless so, yes, if Wooyoung wanted he could kill another vampire.
In the 4 and a half years from conception to completion of Blood, Water, a lot of things changed. My initial conceptualization of Yeosang was as a cold, dangerous individual, one that you might think would actually hurt San. Early on i decided to go for a tragic angle, so his sensitive, selfless nature came through.
Another change that got made very, very late was Yunho and Mingi’s ending. Don’t shoot me, but i initially plotted a different, sadder ending for them. After Yunho almost dies at the big house by newborn San, Mingi gets too into his head about Yunho’s safety and they break up. They uh don’t get back together. Yunho leaves Seoul for a better opportunity (a job, possibly a dance position—one of those things Mingi could never be a part of). It’d be kind of hinted that they’d get back together, but in the future, after Mingi’s worked through more of his vampirism issues and his anxieties. Obviously this isn’t what ended up happening, but, damn, it almost did. I decided not to do this because things were getting too heavy at the end there haha.
Finally, a not-insignificant part of Blood, Water was the chapter graphics that accompanied every chapter release on Twitter. It wouldn’t have been possible without all the wonderful stock image available for use online. A full list of resources:

Well, we’ve done it. We’re at the end of this post. Pretty long-winded but i figured if we could power through 240k words of the fic, we can survive a few paragraphs of my rambling. Thank you all again, so, so much, for all the love and support you’ve given my work. I really could never have done it without you. It was an honor and a blessing to go on this journey with you, and i wouldn’t give it up for anything.
So what’s next? Keen readers might’ve noticed Blood, Water is part of a series, titled Ties of Blood and Silver. I do have plans for a direct sequel. Yes, our vampire boys will be back! With new challenges, new angst, and even new relationships. I’m organizing shit in my real life so it won’t be starting immediately, but you can all look forward to it! Until then, thank you, i love you, and see you all around ♡

character: Heo-Yool x fem!reader
kdrama: night has come
!!: thoughts are in italics
🫶🏻: friends to lovers, valentines day, before the game
-
y/n pov
It was a normal day and the sun was shining. I walked towards school excited to see my friends. It was the day people would go around giving their boyfriends/girlfriends/crushes gifts. One of the most beautiful days in the year.
“y/n!” I heard my name being called. I turned my head ans saw Eun-Ha. “Eun-Ha!” I greeted her and gave her a side hug. “Planning to give out anything this year?” I asked and she shook her head. “I don’t think so, maybe someone gives me something.” She told me and I nodded.
We reached our class and sat down in our seats seeing almost everyone there already. People were in good moods.
The day went by fast and it was already time to eat lunch. Eun-Ha told me that she and Yeon-Woon would go buy something and me and Eun-Chan would wait them in the classroom.
“Are you handing out this year?” I asked and turned to Eun-Chan. “No, I mean nothing with a romantic interest, but in a friendly way.” He said and I nodded.
I heard people passing by our classroom and saw him. Heo-Yool walking with another boys. They weren’t from our class. We made eye contact and I gave him a small smile, he smiled back and then went back to joking with his friends.
“What about you? Are you giving out something.” Eun-Chan asked and I turned back to him. “I just might.” I sighed out as Heo-Yools smile was stuck in my mind.
Eun-Ha and Yeon-woo returned and sat down with us. I took out my own lunch that I packed and so did Eun-Chan. “So do you have plans for later today?” Eun-Ha asked and I shook my head. “Nope.” Both of the boy said.
We chatted and I gave small glances for your classmates. Ji-Soo and her boyfriend Yoo-Joon gave esch others gifts and praises. So-Mi praised herself for getting so much gifts. Na-Hee and Hyun-Ho sat together eating and chatting. It was obvious that they liked each others but were too shy to say anything.
Kyung-Jun was napping as usual and his goons we’re talking about how to give out their gifts for some girls. Everyone was so peaceful today.
“y/n!” I heard my name being called, I turned my head and saw Heo-Yool with a small smile and hands behind his back. “Heo-Yool, hi.” I said as he walked closer.
He ealked up to me and revealed a white rose and a box of chocolates and handed then to me. “Here.” He said with his usual smile and a small blush. Small gasps were heard in the classroom. Nobody had ever seen Heo-Yool and me interact that much.
“I-. Thank you.” I said and took the rose and box of chocolates. “Whaat, I never knew Heo-Yool liked y/n!” Eun-Ha said and patted me on my back. If anyone didn’t look at us before now they definitely did. I heard Jin-Ha and Seung-Bin snicker and whisper how Heo-Yool just is getting rejected.
But he didn’t mind he just smiling and sat down at our circle. “Of course I do, I mean how couldn’t I when she’s the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen. Plus she’s super smart and fun to be around.” He confessed and I felt blush creeping onto me cheeks.
“Actually Heo-Yool…I have something for you.” I said and reached for my bag. I took a box of his favorite chocolate and an envelope. “Here.” I said and gave then to him, and now he was blushing hard.
“What what whatt???” Eun-Ha said and dramatically gasped. “Does this mean y/n like Heo-Yool back!?!?” She said as Eun-Chan and Yeon-Woo gasped the way to tease me.
I felt words being stuck on my throat and my face just blushing harder before I gave them a small nod.
Before Eun-Ha could say anymore Heo-Yool got up and grabbed my wrist to drag me out with him. He dragged us to the school roof.
“Why did you drag me here..?” I asked trying to calm myself from all the blushing. “You like me?” He asked and I nodded. “I mean like like me, the way Ji-Soo likes Yoo-Joon?” “Yeah..” I breathed out and switched my gaze up to him.
There he stood still with blush covering his face. “I’m glad.” He said and quickly wrapped his arms around me. “Because I like you the way Yoo-Joon likes Ji-Soo.” He said and I wrapped my arms around him as well.
We stayed at the roof for 20 minutes talking and laughing together. “y/n. Do you wanna be my girlfriend and go on a date tonight?” He said and I nodded. “Yea and Yes.” I told him and turned my head towards him. “Thank god.” He said and slowly pulled my head closer until our lips were touching.
His lips were surprisingly soft, And I loved it. And this moment. What a good day.
End🤞🏻
But like excuse me why was this amazing man first to be killed in the show. Not fair😞
Also hello Umm yes i’ve been gone for like a year again and bow writing a completely different show😻 (sorry night has come just gave me motivation to write again🙏🏻)

📹 How to romanticize your life; tips from asian dramas ⛸
Hey! I gathered a couple of ideas from asian shows to help you live a better life.
Journal about your daily life and goals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Korean drama "twenty five twenty one" the main character Na Hee Do is always journaling about her goals as a fencing athlete and her daily life with her friends and family. Her journal is so full of stickers and drawings showing off how the character has a strong and extravagant personality.
Tumblr media
Record vlogs and take pictures always.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The main character of "when I fly towards you" Su ZaiZai records her journey to winning the heart of the male lead Zhang Lurang as well as the happy moments with her friends, leaving awesome records of their history and making this show the special piece that it is.
Tumblr media
Live like there is no tomorrow and have the best time of your life.
Tumblr media
Eun Dan Oh is certainly one of the most extroverted characters of all. After she finds out that her heart disease might cause her death at any time, she starts to say whatever she wants and express herself as she really is. In this k-drama called "extra-ordinary you", the main message is that you can be the main character of your life and live for yourself.
Tumblr media
Try out new things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Life can get really hard in a glimpse between one a and two. The main character of "cheer up" Do Hae Yi has to take care of her mom and brother, as well as work and be a good student in college. Her life suddenly changes after joining the cheerleading team from her university and she finds her colorful side that always wanted to shine.
That's it. Thank you for reading this post. I might do another one as I practically watched every asian drama possible. Hope you enjoyed it <3

random question inspired by my general disdain for The Holidays™: what's Christmas like in the Philippines? I'm extremely fed up with how most Americans celebrate it so I'd be super interested to hear about how another culture does it. :D (if you don't mind, of course!) Feel free to infodump as much or as little as you like :)))
WAAAAA I'd love to!! Also that's totally understandable OOF, but yes I'd gladly talk about it!!!
Tumblr media
So I hope this doesn't come as a disappointment but the Philippines is a pretty Americanized country, but of course there are still many key differences in our traditions! For one, which you might have heard LOL, we start preparing for Christmas all the way in September (as in, Christmas decorations start going up already, and Christmas music starts playing in the malls). Generally we don't celebrate Thanksgiving since it's an American holiday and we don't care as much about Halloween, so it's not like a WHOLE THING like it is in America (I was surprised to learn how big of a deal it is over there LOL!).
We have this celebrity who's also a beloved Filipino meme, Jose Mari Chan, who basically is like, the harbinger of Christmas here. Like months in advance we'll have memes pop up occasionally saying stuff like "Ready na ba kayo?" (are you ready yet??) and things like that LOL. Here's some of my favorite examples:
Tumblr media
("I'm just warming up")
Tumblr media
(explanation and translation: we have a famous Filipino Christmas song that starts with, "Whenever I see girls and boys selling lanterns on the street...", which is what Jose Mari Chan is starting to sing LOL, then the guard is saying, "Sir, seniors aren't allowed to go out." (this was made during pandemic times HAHAHA)
And a personal favorite:
Tumblr media
LOLLL
Also since the majority of the Philippines is Catholic that plays a huge factor in it too. Another tradition that's mainly Catholic (so I haven't ever actually participated in it) is called simbang gabi, which is basically nine days of mass before Christmas. Then on Christmas Eve the final mass is called Misa da Gallo. It's basically a way for everyone to prepare for Christmas!
Another big thing about Philippine Christmases (although I'm sure a bunch of other cultures do this too LOL including Americans), we a lot of the time celebrate Christmas with our extended families (both sides during different times if possible!), since, you know, family is very important to us!! Us younger ones will usually go around to the adults to "bless" them, or do "Mano po" (basically press the back of their hands to our foreheads which is like, a traditional sign of respect) to all the adults, and a lot of time we get angpao (money inside those little red Chinese folders) tee hee hee! And a lot of the time we get more specific gifts from our ninongs and ninangs (god fathers and god mothers) (yes sometimes we have multiple no I can't really explain why HAHA). And if we're blessed to have them, all the cousins hang out and do whatever we like while the adults mingle (sometimes we go to the bedroom of whichever cousin's family is hosting the gathering)—I have very fond memories of those times.
Tumblr media
But I think one of the bigger differences is that we don't have our official celebration on Christmas morning—we actually celebrate the night before, on Christmas Eve! We like to prepare for our Noche Buena (also a Spanish tradition LOL, it's basically a special Holiday feast) for the whole day, then we wait for 12am to strike, then THAT'S when we start eating and playing games and of course opening presents. It's such a fun time and I've spent multiple Christmases up late until the sun rose reading my new books or something. From what I know most families here stay home during the rest of Christmas day resting and enjoying the time with their own families.
We also do Christmas caroling differently. Idk how it works in America but in the Philippines random groups of kids go around to houses to sing Christmas songs for money. Sometimes they have makeshift instruments, occasionally a guitar and tambourine. They aren't always that good HAHA but they do their best, and they have a lot of fun doing it (my siblings and I did it once!! It was a lot of fun).
Tumblr media
We also have a traditional Christmas decoration, called the paról. It's basically these star-shaped paper lanterns, and they're beautiful!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also may play games like Pinoy Henyo (similar to charades, basically a paper with a word is placed on yours or your teammates forehead and you/your teammate need to help them guess what the word is, answering questions like is it a person?? animal?? place?? etc., getting more specific until you figure out the word), Bring Me (basically you need to be the first to bring the item, for example: bring me a wallet! A lot of parents usually help the kids by giving their own things LOL), and Longest Line (basically you need to make the longest line only using things you're wearing) (yes some guys have taken off their shirts, sometimes people just lie down in the line LOL). It's a lot of fun.
Tumblr media
So in conclusion, while, like with any country, we can also be prone to commercialism, Christmas is a lot of fun in the Philippines, at least for me!
Anddd that's mostly it I think!!! thank you so much for this ask!! I was really excited to answer when I got it lol!! I'm sorry it took a while tho, I wanted to let my friends check to see if what I said was accurate (because I am uncertain like that LOLL). I really enjoyed answering it too so thank you and I hope it was interesting!!!

cat got your tongue?
Tumblr media
wc: 1.1k | g: fluff, superhero!au, chat noir!jaemin, gender neautral reader | w: profanity | a/n: tee hee chat noir jaemin tee hee ps. little personal mentions of the murder mystery novel i've been reading + the cat beanie i've been talking abt w sunny
Beyond the swaying trees and the dimly lit street lamps of the park, Na Jaemin manages to spot you between little gaps of the canopy above you, smiling a little fondly at the sight of you getting lost in another book you'd gotten; knee perched up against your chest and your book perched right up against your thigh as you indulge yourself completely in the plotline of your novel.
Though the hour is late, he knows all too well that you'd lost track of time already. Hopping off of a roof he'd been resting on, Chat Noir quietly sneaks behind the bench you sit on, pressing his hands next to both your shoulders.
"I believe someone should be heading home at the moment?"
At the slight upbraid, you can't help but jump with shrugged shoulders, turning around with what Jaemin thinks is the cutest bewildered expression.
"Chat Noir," You huff, pausing to mark the page you'd last left off. "Would it kill you to not give me a scare every time we talk?"
"It would, actually, yeah."
"Oh, very funny." Rolling your eyes, you stuff your book into your olive green satchel, fingers brushing against the faded denim.
Your "coincidental" interactions with Chat Noir had been an ongoing thing for months, though at this rate you're convinced he's monitoring you.
"Cute beanie," Jaemin comments, eyes casted to the headdress snug on your head. It's cat shaped, which makes him a little giddy. "What is this, a tribute to yours truly?"
"Sure, you could say that." You laugh softly, adjusting the beanie and brushing stray strands of hair behind your ears. Your response is like a little cup of serotonin shot into his veins, and he smiles.
"Come on," Urges the nation's greatest hero, tugging on the sleeve of your sweater. "I'm seeing you off to your home."
"You know where my home is?"
Yes, Jaemin resists the urge to bite out. You'd taken me there to work on a pair assessment together.
"Yes," Chat Noir drags out in a small voice. "A hero should know where everyone belongs, should he not?" Scrunching your nose up at him, you begin walking by his side. "No," You reply. "I don't think Seoul's mightiest hero should personally know where I sleep every night."
"Don't twist the story!"
"I'm not twisting shit and you know it, Chat Noir. It's as creepy as it sounds."
"It's not like I'm selling your information or anything. I doubt anyone would want that anyway." Jaemin says, a tad sour. You laugh at the slight bitter tone in his voice, bumping your shoulder to his in a playful manner.
"What book are you reading, by the way?"
"A murder mystery. Why?"
"Nothing, I'd just like something to do to kill time now and then."
You give him a sly, cheeky smile, "Heroes have time to kill?" To which Jaemin scoffs through thin lips, "More time than crimes to kill, trust me."
"Alright," You trail off. "I guess I could lend you my copy." Jaemin almost trips against the gravel below him. "Borrow-? Your copy?" Your head cocks to the side as you meet eyes with him through his jet black mask. "Yeah, it's cheaper that way, is it not?"
"Sounds like you're looking for more reasons to see me."
"That too, maybe,"
Now Jaemin freezes. He can't help the halt of his legs when you retort back. You'd always been witty with your responses, but never had you been so... bold. Nonchalant. He didn't know what to think of it.
"What? Cat got your tongue?"
Now you're doing cat puns? You'll be the death of him.
With dusted cheeks, Jaemin stretches his arms out and kneels down on one knee. At the action, you give him a strange look, grip tightening a little on your satchel.
"What the fuck?" You give him a confused laugh. "Are you, what, proposing?"
"I'm proposing to give you a ride home."
"What? How?"
Tumblr media
You never thought you'd ever have your arms wrapped around Chat Noir's neck, let alone see him give you a charming, boyish smile as he jumps from one rooftop to another nearing your apartment.
"This is literally crazy." You mumble, eliciting a small yell when the hero jumps a little too high, though you can't deny the small rush in your veins when he does. "This is literally safer, you child."
Your roll your eyes at his childishness, but still laugh. Frankly, he could not blame you for the way you're acting right now.
"I'm not a child, and I'm not a fan of cold winds." You complain, referring to the cold gust that bites at your cheeks. The skin of your face is cold and numb, and you bit the inside of your cheek to maintain any form of sense on your face.
"Sorry, love. We'll be there soon, I promise."
You can't argue with that. At all. He'd whispered it in your ear with his stupid soothing voice, you'd melted into putty in his arms at this rate. All you're left to do is watch the scenery of silhouettes contrasted compared to the dark blue that paints the sky.
"Blue hour," You mumble with a sense of admiration in your voice. "Your favorite," Jaemin adds. You hum, recalling when you'd told Chat Noir that on your way to your favorite bakery, around the same hour.
It doesn't take long for Jaemin to arrive at the balcony of your apartment. Perched up safely, he helps you out of his arms and into the safety of your home.
"Thank you," You chime, leaning closer against the same railing he rests on. "Oh, before I forget: here's the novel." You hand it to him. He admires it, the pages already slightly worn out, the paperback cover having been bent a little by your little habit of picking the corners of it.
"How about this," Starts Jaemin. He sets the book back into your hands, softening at the surprised tilt of your head. "You can give it to me the next time we meet."
"When will that be?"
"On our date. Next week Thursday, blue hour. I'll pick you up here."
You can't seem to form words, mouth slightly agape at the idea of going out with the city's greatest, most charming hero. Jaemin gives you a warm smile, letting a finger rest under your chin just to lift it up.
"What, cat got your tongue?"
You can't help but laugh, closing your eyes to relish the warmth from the proximity. Standing against the tip of your toes, you shift and press your lips against his warm cheek.
"Okay. A date."
Pulling away, you lean back down to your original height and step away slowly. "Good night, Chat Noir."
Slowly, Jaemin wears the shyest smile you must have ever seen him with, "Good night, Y/N."

Chopra Household: Chapter 6, Part 6
New Year's Eve family style.
Tumblr media
If Viola is attempting to say something it will be in brackets, otherwise you can assume it's just trying out sounds Mercedes has a speech delay and may get words wrong, correct wording will be in brackets if that is the case Savannah aka Honeybee Mercedes aka Little Ladybug Viola aka Green Bean
New Year’s Eve means face paint and matching cat ears for the whole family! This is followed by a small dance party.
Tumblr media
Viola begins fussing. The music may be kids radio but my cautious infant still finds it too loud.
Viola: *cries* ga lu doo (my ears hurt)
Cassandra: Come up here little green bean, it’ll be okay
Mercedes: Dancing fun Viola!
Savannah: I love the music mama
Cassandra: *rocking Viola* I’m glad you’re having fun. Anyone got any resolutions?
Mercedes: What res loot tin
Cassandra: A goal you want to achieve in the next year
Savannah: I want to be butterfly
Mercedes: Me to!
Cassandra: Sounds good to me
Tumblr media
Viola: *fusses* ca ne boo da (music is loud)
Cassandra: Can you say mama? Huh? Mama
Viola: sa loo da (mama mama mama) *giggles*
Mercedes: *yells at the top of her lungs* IT NOT FAIR
This sudden increase in noise causes Viola to begin wailing again.
Rahul: Mercedes, do NOT yell like that. It upsets your sister and it’s not nice for me and mama either
Mercedes: But Viola make fun of me! She heard I have true bell (trouble) talking and she make fun! She LAUGHED!
Here Mercedes pitches a proper fit, throwing her arms and legs around as much as she can. Cassandra tries to soothe a confused Viola while Savannah oh so innocently bangs away at the xylophone and Rahul tries to stop Mercedes flailing about before she hurts herself.
Tumblr media
Rahul: I know this may be difficult to understand but Viola does not know enough to make fun of you. She’s still an infant ladybug, Viola laughs when she's happy. If someone does make fun of you, you just tell papa or mama and we’ll figure it out together
Mercedes doesn’t understand most of this yet but it sounds like papa is on her side which must means she wins against Viola!
Cassandra: *sighs* Big guy I think Mercedes could use some cheer up playtime
Mercedes: Playtime???
Rahul: *laughs* okay but please try to go easy on me this time little lady
Rahul picks up Mercedes and begins to swing her around, making her giggle in delight. Viola meanwhile has settled back down so it’s time to try some new things.
Tumblr media
Cassandra: Alright green bean, you lie down there
Viola: he naa du (suddenly the ground is not blurry)
Cassandra: Now crawl to me, come on. Crawl to mama
Mercedes: She staying mama, she no brain
Cassandra: She’s staying for now but she can do it. Come on Viola, crawl to mama
Viola: ne laa du... gee rey (Is that blurry lump you or... is it that one)
Savannah: Mama maybe... Viola broken?
Cassandra: Girls, you should understand it takes time to learn things. It’s not nice to poke fun at people needing some extra help or encouragement. You'll make them sad
Mercedes: What co rage mint (encouragement)
Tumblr media
Viola bursts into tears and hides her head in her arms.
Viola: *cries* hee na du (why is moving so hard)
Cassandra: Encouragement is…
Savannah: Being brave!
Cassandra: Almost honeybee. Encouragement is... cheering someone up so they can do things like be brave. Or crawl to mama!
Viola looks up, tears still flooding her face, unencouraged.
Mercedes: *focused on stacking rings* You try Viola, you try
Savannah: Go go! *taps out victory xylophone beat*
Cassandra: Now now green bean. I’ve seen you push yourself up on all fours. You’ve done that before. Crawling is that with a few extra steps
Viola sniffles but manages to push herself up to all fours. At least for a moment. She does crash back down pretty quickly.
Tumblr media
Cassandra: It’s okay green bean, maybe we’re just not ready to crawl yet
Mercedes: *pouts* I can walk
Cassandra: Oh ladybug I know. You’re are doing very well with your walking, and going up and down the stairs
Savannah: I go up down stairs at… what it called mama
Cassandra: Occupational therapy. If you want we could shorten it to something to make it easier to say
Savannah: Yes. I want Mercedes be able to say
Cassandra: Well the brochures said it’s also called OT so how about we try that?
Mercedes: Savannah do OT. I want good name to
Tumblr media
Cassandra begins moving the girls to the dining room as it smells like Rahul’s finished the dinner. Mercedes of course wants to be carried which means back carrier time for Viola.
Cassandra: What name do you want for your speech therapy then
Mercedes: You pick mama, you pick good for me
Cassandra: What about… word class?
Mercedes: Word class? Yes, yes!
Savannah: MAMA! PAPA! My chair dirty *cries* I NEED food mama
Cassandra scoops up the fussy toddler and deposits her in Viola’s normal chair while Rahul sets about cleaning Savannah’s regular one. Mercedes has a good appetite but they’re also learning she’ll get extra fussy when she’s hungry. The best solution is food as quick as possible.
Tumblr media
Rahul: Here we are! Mercedes what’s wrong? I thought playing cheered you up
Mercedes: *sadly* I talk bad
Rahul looks at Cassandra. They were worried about this following the psychiatrists visits. They may think their daughters are amazing but what to do when their daughters don’t believe it? They are technically behind others their age and will likely require extra help throughout their schooling. They need to know home is a safe space.
Rahul: I like to hear you talk little ladybug
Cassandra: So do I! And I love to hear you sing
Savannah: And me! We twin talk, it best talk
Viola: he na duu (I don't even talk)
Mercedes: *sniffles* I not talk… bad?
Tumblr media
Rahul and Cassandra assure her she doesn’t and eventually Mercedes cheers up enough to start eating.
Savannah: The food nice papa
Rahul: Thank you Savannah. Now Viola, how about we try… carrots?
Viola tastes and pats at the lumpy mixture but following the emptying of the jar she is still unsure about the whole thing.
Tumblr media
Following the late dinner Viola is put to bed and the Chopra’s gather in the lounge to countdown to midnight. Since the twins had long afternoon naps they manage to stay awake for the new year, hugging when the TV announces it’s hit midnight. Cassandra and Rahul being the love birds they are share a kiss before carrying the twins to bed.

Weak Hero Character Names
For those who don't know, the Weak Hero webtoon anglicized a bunch of the characters' first names from Korean to English. They don't do this for newly introduced characters anymore AFAIK, but all the names they anglicized initially have been kept that way.
Since I've gotten a few people asking about the names, so I decided to compile a list of their original Korean names. You can find amost of these on their character profiles on the Weak Hero fandom page, but I figured people would appreciate having a quick reference that is all in one place. Hopefully this helps people learn/connect their original names.
