Barriers I face for appointments
Great, you spent years fighting for your appointments, now you got them. Except the hospital you have to go to is 20 miles away, a 1hr 45 minute train and bus journey, a 25 minute car ride.
Twenty miles really isn't that far. 1hr 45 minutes travel time isn't that bad for the journey. A 25 minute drive is pretty easygoing. For someone who isn't ill that is.
I'm not allowed to drive for a start, it is illegal because of seizures, I had to return my license and until I'm seizure free for at least 12 months, maybe then I can have it back.
Someone like me, cannot manage 1hr 45 minutes on a train and a bus. Sitting up for 30 minutes, is too much for me. Like my body, is physically not capable of sitting up like that. You're generally not allowed to lie down on the floor of a moving bus or train.
Walking between the stops, to catch my next leg of the journey, is not possible. It will take me 3 times longer than an abled person. I will have to stop, every few steps. I will be in pain & out of breath, exhausted. My legs will end up turning into jelly, will bend like rubber and completely collapse underneath me.
You know that big step up there always is, between the train platform, the gap and the train? Yeah I can't do that anymore. It's too high. You think they roll out the ramp for little me? Ha!
So say I walked all that way, I caught the bus somehow, I walked again and I managed to somehow get on the train. I get off at my destination and I have to walk again, for '16 minutes.' times that by 2 or 3 and we're looking at 30 to 50 minutes.
I'm at the hospital. I'm in tears. I'm on the verge of passing out. My body is d o n e. [I could collapse in a heap and they will just say I'm dehydrated]
I go through the appointment as arranged. (Hooray?) I spent all this time waiting and finally it's happened. I hope it reveals answers this time. I hope it provides some insight into my physical and mental states. I feel hope.
But now I have to get home..
Tumblr media
[you bet your a$$ I'm getting a taxi/lift and will be lay strapped across the backseats like a creepy little car goblin, another costly expense (£65 return journey compared to £12 public transport), a kind of disability tax, for being f***ing ILL]

Hi! What is the average recovery timeline for top surgery? One of my best friends is getting married a couple weeks after my surgery date (17 days to be exact) and I'm invited to the wedding! He's also had top surgery and said from his experience I should be okay after 2 weeks. I'll have to fly, but my partner will be with me just in case I can't lift my bags or anything. But any advice? I'll be flying out there pretty much 15 days after my surgery date. Thanks!!!
Lee says:
I had my top surgery when I was 18 and bounced back pretty quickly, but my younger age, lack of physical disabilities or chronic illnesses, and relatively good health (semi-athletic, non-smoker) made it easier for me to recover than many.
For context, I had inverted-T incision top surgery (double incision plus two extra incisions) and drains.
I was exploring the city I had my top surgery in within the first 2 weeks post-op and going to libraries, museums, candy factories, etc and taking public transportation for all of it.
You'll need to speak with your surgeon about what they expect your recovery timeline to be like as it can vary depending on your medical conditions, and whether you develop post-op complications (something that can't always be predicted when you're still pre-op).
That being said, if you are in good health and a young adult, it's likely that you would be able to go to a wedding 17 days post-op, especially because it's an event that's important to you (one of your best friends) and you'll have the support you need (a partner who can do all of the heavy luggage lifting). You'll probably be more tired than usual, but it's probably worth it to you to be present for the wedding.
This is what my top surgeon told me about post-top surgery general activity limitations:
5-7 days: may engage in ADL’s (“activities of daily living”; light housework, etc, provided not lifting more than 20-30 pounds)
7-10 days: may consider RTW (“return to work”, again with the above lifting limitations x 4-6 weeks)
2-4 weeks: may engage in light exercise/extra activity (dog-walking, etc)
4-6 weeks: may engage in moderate exercise (bicycle or treadmill, but no full exertion)
6+ weeks: full activity (including heavy lifting/jogging) generally OK
Generally, most people are back to their normal routine by 2-4 weeks. Overall, it generally takes 3 months for significant swelling to go down and 6-12 months for scars to mature/fade.
Whatever you decide to do regarding the wedding is ultimately up to you (after you have your surgeon's clearance to attend); it's valid if you don't feel comfortable going because you're concerned about being away from your surgeon and developing a possible complication.
But people do travel for gender-affirming surgeries, and it's pretty common to only stay in the area for ~2 weeks after top surgery before flying home, which is what I did.
So if you do not develop any major complications early on, it likely would be fine to leave the town that your surgeon is located in and take a flight to the wedding at ~2 weeks post-op.
Good luck with the surgery!
Followers, any additional advice or personal experiences to share with anon?
Followers say:
sequintial said: I was NOT ready to do anything like a wedding 2 weeks after top surgery. I had double incision and I'm fat, so I had a much larger area to heal, and one that interfered more with my mobility
bdw531 said: I basically slept all day for the first 1.5 weeks and couldn't even lift a glass of water to my face. Went back to work after 2 weeks. At 4 weeks, I hiked 75 miles of the PCT and at 6 weeks I was bouldering again. As with any surgery, everyone heals differently. I probably would have been up for attending a laid-back wedding ~17 days so long as I could sit and didn't dance.
happysadyoyo said: I was 29 when I had top surgery, and it took me about two weeks to stop sleeping so much. I was able to move around and do things, but especially when I had the drains in I pretty much did nothing but sleep and watch TV. The drains I feel are the most limiting factor. If you still have them, they're gonna be annoying, but even with them, so long as you're able to pace yourself (and at a wedding it should be fine) and there's no major complications, it should be fine.

World Animal Road Accident Awareness Day
World Animal Road Accident Awareness Day is on October 10. It’s a fantastic opportunity to help raise awareness of the problem of animals getting hurt on the road and sometimes abandoned without assistance or much care. It’s a day to urge people to consider what they would do if they hit an animal while driving. It is hoped that through education and action, fewer animals will suffer, and more animal owners will be spared the anguish that traffic accidents entail. Driving with extra care and attention will save many lives, but accidents will happen — even to the most animal-loving drivers.
History of World Animal Road Accident Awareness Day
No animal deserves to be dumped on the side of the road after a car accident. Every day, 630 cats are killed in car accidents. Only 25% of these incidents will be deadly, leaving 75% with a possibility of survival, but only if the animal receives assistance. Many people attempt to educate the public on what to do if they hit an animal on the road. Fortunately, the Cats Matter Organization has made raising awareness of the issue easier. Cats Matter is committed to this worthwhile cause and is the driving force behind Animal Road Accident Awareness Day. Annual road fatalities are expected to kill 100,000 foxes, 50,000 badgers, 50,000 deer, 30 million birds, and hedgehogs, which formerly headed the fatality list with 29% of them killed by automobiles and are now critically endangered.
Authorities estimate the accurate death rate to be about 70 million animals based on a statistical study of those that may have gone undetected. Highways England claims that 2,143 dead animals were discovered on about 4,300 miles of roadway — less than 1% of the U.K.’s entire road network.
The Road Traffic Act 1988 in the United Kingdom specifies that drivers must notify the police if they strike any of the following animals: dogs, horses, cattle/cows, pigs, goats, sheep, donkeys, or mules. Although there is currently no requirement to record all animal deaths on roadways, police suggest drivers contact the owner of domestic animals, such as cats, to alert them of the situation. Whatever the regulations, the most important thing is that the animal is provided with the best opportunity possible if it survives the initial impact.
Today highlights the fact that many animals are disregarded for no other reason than a motorist did not value their life enough to give them a second consideration.

Lightspeed over the Light Rail
Say what you will about the way American cities are laid out -- they make for some awesome race tracks.
Tumblr media
When you string together a few 90 degree turns and connect it with a squiggly line on an empty lot, it can turn out to be racing magic. Such is the case for a circuit like Long Beach. A magical minute around the coast line through some of the most glamorous sights SoCal can provide a great spectacle that lives on in racing legend for decades. Toronto provides a white knuckle ride around Exhibition Place with little room to breathe, let alone race for position. Even something as silly as the new Nashville track can have its merits, albeit if it's just for a few laughs.
However, track designers must be careful balancing a very fine line between spectacle and disaster. The characteristics that can make for a great circuit can also lead to a terrible catastrophe -- something that has been seen time and time again throughout the last 30 years. With Champ Car and Indycar alike taking their chances to reach a wider audience there is bound to be a handful of nightmares for teams and organizers alike. San Jose and Baltimore prove as such examples for when public transport wreak havoc on suspensions.
Tumblr media
In 2005 the CCWS went to San Jose for their inaugural Grand Prix. Looking to become a second reincarnation of Long Beach, the circuit was a blinding flash through the heart of the downtown district, only coming in at a mile and a half. Whilst the rest of the circuit wasn't very memorable, one part of it did stick out in the history books for all the wrong reasons. A fast chicane had the potential to be a fun challenge for drivers and a great spectacle for fans at the track and at home. Traveling at over 150 mph through this precarious flick would showcase bravery and skill, making the car dance right on the limit. There was just one problem though...
youtube
This single light rail track would seal the fate of the GP. These stiff and agile Champ Cars would fly over this small little bump in the road, causing figurative and literal pain. Although the organizers provided a quick fix the next year, it wouldn't save the event as the demise of Champ Car would not see the event return.
Tumblr media
Indycar picked up the slack, adding their own multitude of street circuits after the merger. In 2011 Baltimore was able to host their own race, funneling drivers around Oriole Park via a very technical layout. Drivers found the chicane before the light rail section unnecessary after the conclusion of the first ever race, leading the organizers to remove it for 2012.
They would regret suggesting it.
youtube
Friday came around, with the drivers taking to the track for their practice laps. At full speed, the cars would visibly take off from the ground and come to a hard landing with not much time to react. Several Indycar and ALMS teams then pleaded the organizers to backtrack, re-adding the chicane and avoiding any potential chaos. Well, not really, but that came down to the rest of the track.
youtube
Baltimore would exit the calendar without much grace after 2013, with scheduling conflicts and broken promises of increased city revenue ultimately killing hopes of becoming a regular fixture in the motorsports calendar.

helloo i'm from singapore and here's some things i can share about us! first off for food, you can literally find ANY food here, we have chinatown which is very popular during chinese new year for the many festive things they sell, we also have little india, which you can find many indian food places and shops,, we have golden mile , aka thai street, which sells tons of thai food etc!! you would be able to find hawker centres almost everywhere though, which would also have food of different cuisines you can get. it is also easily accessible to malaysia,, taking at least 30 mins to travel by bus depending on the crowd! as singapore is quite small, we don't have much places you can travel to when you have explored singapore, but travelling on a short trip to malaysia is always an option!
personally, the people i have meet and surrounded myself with are all very friendly, and no matter who you are, you won't be discriminated/look down on because of your race, since there are many different people who stay in singapore, so it is a common occurance to see other pocs and different people, especially in the central business district (CBD, aka where most of our more expensive tourist spots and hotels are located) of course if you search online, every once in a while you would see an auntie or uncle (we call all older women/men 'auntie' 'uncle' as a respect! no matter the language you speak :)) making racist remarks/being disrespectful, but i can assure you most of us aren't like that!
tourist spots wise, a popular place to visit would be a nearby island sentosa!! theres hotels there but its on the higher end side as its basically an island,, and our attractions such as SEA aquarium/Universal Studios is located there! you can also access islands and batam from our jetties!
overall, i think singapore is quite nice to live in, especially since i do part time jobs, and the pay is enough to sustain me because you can easily get affordable food from hawker centres and coffee shops, unlike our title, clean and green, we're not very clean but we're trying! especially because of the very strict fines and law here, and littering can literally cost you $10,000 😭 and theres cameras almost everywhere, so it is quite safe, though still dangerous once in a while
omg i love this ur like a little tour guide hehe
I’m so late tho 😭 but thank you for this info! I especially like how there’s many food choices. I’m from a small city in a rather boring state in the US, so food variety is not a bit thing here, yet it’s something that I want so bad. Another thing that’s not common here is the public transportation. Driving is really scary for me, so i’d much rather take a bus or train!
I’m thinking of maybe going to Singapore for med school, but that’s a far off plan of mine, so we’ll see. When I did my research, I noticed how many different people lived there. In america, ofc it’s very diverse, but once again lol I live in a small city, so I don’t see many different people, especially with the language differences.
And the SAFETY! YES! I NEED SAFETY! As someone who has pretty bad anxiety and is paranoid, even going out to run errands or to work is scary bcs you never know what will happen. There’s daily shootings where I live and it’s seen as normal here, so safety is rlly important for me when i’m looking for a place to stay in the future. Anyways, thanks for letting me know everything. heart heart :DDDDDDD

Situated on the Canadian side of the Niagara River, this iconic location offers visitors a wide variety of activities, from exploring the stunning waterfalls to enjoying fine dining, shopping, and cultural experiences. To fully enjoy everything the region has to offer, efficient and convenient transportation is essential.Whether you're planning a short visit or an extended stay, this comprehensive guide will explore all the transportation in Niagara Falls Canada. From getting there to navigating the city and beyond, we've got you covered with practical tips, details, and suggestions to help you move around smoothly.
Tumblr media
1. How to Get to Niagara Falls, Canada
Before we dive into getting around Niagara Falls itself, it's important to know how to get there. Whether you're arriving by car, train, or plane, Niagara Falls is well-connected and easily accessible from nearby cities in both Canada and the United States.
By Car
Driving is one of the most convenient ways to reach Niagara Falls, especially if you’re coming from nearby cities like Toronto, Hamilton, or Buffalo. Niagara Falls is located about 27 miles (43 kilometers) north of Buffalo, New York, and around 75 miles (121 kilometers) south of Toronto. The Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) in Canada and the Niagara Parkway provide scenic and direct routes to the city, making it an easy drive from either location.
If you're driving from Toronto, expect about a 1.5-hour drive, depending on traffic, while the drive from Buffalo to Niagara Falls takes about 30 minutes.
By Train
For those traveling from Toronto or other cities in Ontario, taking the train is a comfortable and relaxing way to get to Niagara Falls. VIA Rail and GO Transit are the primary train operators serving the region. VIA Rail runs service from Toronto to Niagara Falls year-round, while GO Transit offers seasonal commuter trains that run from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to Niagara Falls, typically from spring to fall.
Taking the train offers a scenic and stress-free option to travel, especially for those who prefer not to drive.
By Air
Niagara Falls is served by several nearby airports, making it accessible for international and domestic travelers. The nearest international airport is Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), located about 90 minutes from Niagara Falls. Another option is Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF), which is about 30 minutes away by car.
There is also a regional airport, Niagara Falls International Airport (IAG), located just across the border in the United States. This airport serves limited domestic flights but offers direct access to the Niagara Falls region.
By Bus
If you prefer public transportation, several bus companies operate routes between major cities and Niagara Falls. Companies like Greyhound, Megabus, and Coach Canada provide bus service from cities such as Toronto, Buffalo, and Hamilton, with routes running regularly throughout the week. Bus travel is an affordable option, but it may take longer compared to driving or taking the train.
2. Transportation Within Niagara Falls, Canada
Once you've arrived in Niagara Falls, there are numerous transportation options to help you get around and explore everything the city has to offer. From walking to taking a trolley, here's a breakdown of the most popular ways to travel within the city.
Walking
Many of Niagara Falls' top attractions are within walking distance of each other, especially if you’re staying in or near the Fallsview area. Walking is a fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of the region, as the Niagara Parkway offers stunning views of the river, the falls, and surrounding landscapes.
Major attractions like the Horseshoe Falls, Table Rock Welcome Centre, and the Niagara SkyWheel are all located close to each other, making it easy to explore on foot. Additionally, many scenic walking trails, such as the Niagara Gorge Trail, provide an up-close look at the area's natural beauty.
Niagara Falls Trolley Service
For those who prefer not to walk, the Niagara Falls Trolley is an excellent option. This seasonal service provides convenient transportation between key attractions, including the falls, Table Rock, the Skylon Tower, and the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. The trolley operates from late spring to early fall, making it a popular choice during the peak tourist season.
The Niagara Falls Trolley is an affordable and relaxing way to get around, especially if you plan on visiting multiple attractions in a short amount of time.
Public Transit: Niagara Region Transit
For those looking to explore areas beyond the falls, Niagara Region Transit offers a reliable public transportation system. Buses run throughout Niagara Falls and neighboring towns, including St. Catharines and Welland, providing access to shopping centers, wineries, and historic sites.
If you plan on visiting nearby attractions like Niagara-on-the-Lake, Welland Canal, or St. Catharines, public transit is an affordable and easy option.
Taxi and Rideshare
Taxis are readily available throughout Niagara Falls, particularly near major hotels, tourist attractions, and transportation hubs. Taxis are a great choice if you need to travel a short distance quickly, especially if you have heavy luggage or want to avoid walking.
Alternatively, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are also widely available in Niagara Falls. These services can often be more affordable than traditional taxis, and you can easily hail a ride using the mobile app.
Bicycle Rentals
Biking is a popular activity in Niagara Falls, particularly along the Niagara Parkway, which offers scenic views and a flat, paved route for cyclists. Several bike rental shops throughout the city provide bikes for daily use, making it easy to explore the area at your own pace.
If you're interested in a guided tour, many companies offer bike tours of the region. These tours take you along the parkway, through vineyards, and to other nearby attractions, providing an engaging way to experience Niagara Falls beyond the usual sightseeing.
Car Rentals
While Niagara Falls is a walkable city, renting a car can be a great option if you're planning to explore areas outside the main tourist district. For instance, you may want to visit the nearby Niagara Wine Region or head to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a charming town known for its historic sites and wineries.
Car rental agencies, such as Enterprise, Hertz, and Avis, have locations throughout the city, and cars can be rented for daily or weekly use. This gives you the flexibility to explore at your own pace and venture to areas that are harder to reach by public transit.
Shuttle Services
Many hotels in Niagara Falls offer shuttle services to key attractions, including the falls, local wineries, and shopping areas. These services are especially useful for visitors staying at resorts or hotels that are a bit farther from the falls.
Some shuttle services also provide transportation to and from major airports, such as Toronto Pearson International Airport and Buffalo Niagara International Airport, making it easier for visitors to reach their destination without the hassle of public transit or taxis.
3. Unique Transportation Experiences in Niagara Falls, Canada
In addition to traditional modes of transportation, Niagara Falls offers a range of unique and memorable experiences that allow you to see the region from a different perspective.
Maid of the Mist and Hornblower Niagara Cruises
One of the most popular ways to experience Niagara Falls is by taking a boat tour. The Hornblower Niagara Cruises operates on the Canadian side and offers an unforgettable close-up view of the falls. Passengers get up close to both Horseshoe Falls and American Falls, feeling the mist and hearing the thunderous roar of the water.
While the Maid of the Mist operates from the U.S. side of the falls, Hornblower Cruises on the Canadian side offers a similar experience. Both cruises are seasonal, typically running from May through October, and are an essential part of any Niagara Falls visit.
Helicopter Tours
For a truly unique experience, consider taking a helicopter tour of Niagara Falls. This gives you a bird’s-eye view of the falls, the surrounding landscapes, and the Niagara River. Several companies offer helicopter tours, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the falls from above.
These tours offer spectacular views and are perfect for those looking for a memorable experience with a bit of adventure.
Niagara SkyWheel
Another great way to experience Niagara Falls from a different perspective is by riding the Niagara SkyWheel, located at the Clifton Hill entertainment district. The SkyWheel is one of the largest observation wheels in Canada and provides panoramic views of the falls and the surrounding area. It’s a great way to take in the scenery, especially at sunset or after dark when the falls are illuminated.
4. Tips for Navigating Transportation in Niagara Falls, Canada
Peak Tourist Season: Niagara Falls is a top tourist destination, so expect large crowds, especially during the summer months. To avoid congestion and long lines, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (April-May or September-October) when the weather is still pleasant, but the crowds are thinner.
Parking: If you’re driving, be aware that parking near the falls and in the city center can be expensive and limited. Many hotels offer parking for guests, but if you’re visiting attractions for a day trip, look for public parking lots or garages, which tend to be more affordable.
Weather Considerations: The weather in Niagara Falls can be unpredictable, particularly in the winter months. If you’re visiting during the colder months, be prepared for snow and icy conditions. During the warmer months, pack sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes to explore the area comfortably.
Conclusion:
Navigating Niagara Falls, Canada, is easy and convenient, with a range of transportation options to suit every traveler. Whether you prefer to walk, take a trolley, or rent a car, you’ll find plenty of ways to get around and explore this iconic destination. With its stunning natural beauty, historical landmarks, and unique attractions, Niagara Falls offers an unforgettable experience that’s accessible to everyone.
By planning your transportation in advance and choosing the best options for your needs, you can maximize your time in this spectacular region and enjoy everything it has to offer.

Electric Scooters vs. E-Bikes: Which One Should You Choose?
Tumblr media
In today’s fast-paced world, the use of electric scooters and e-bikes has surged, providing eco-friendly alternatives to conventional vehicles. As urban congestion grows and the demand for sustainable commuting options increases, many people are exploring these two forms of electric transportation. If you’re thinking about purchasing an electric scooter or an e-bike, this guide will help you evaluate the advantages and disadvantages to find the option that best fits your needs. Take a look .
Understanding Electric Scooters and E-Bikes
Before we get into the details, let’s clarify what electric scooters and e-bikes are. Electric scooters are small, lightweight, and generally intended for short commutes. They typically have a standing platform, handlebars for steering, and a small motor that offers assistance. In contrast, e-bikes look like traditional bicycles but come with an electric motor to help with pedaling. This extra power makes it easier to tackle hills and cover longer distances.
Key Differences Between Electric Scooters and E-Bikes
1. Design and Functionality
E-bikes provide the comfort of a regular bicycle. They include pedals, a larger frame, and usually feature a more comfortable seat, making them ideal for longer journeys. On the other hand, electric scooters are built for quick, short trips. Their compact design allows for easy navigation through busy urban areas, and they often have a footboard, enabling riders to stand while commuting.
2. Speed and Range
When it comes to speed, both electric scooters and e-bikes offer efficient travel options. Electric scooters usually reach speeds between 15 to 25 mph, depending on the model. They are perfect for short trips and city commuting. In contrast, e-bikes can achieve similar speeds but often provide a greater range thanks to their pedal-assist feature. E-bikes can easily cover 30 to 50 miles on a single charge, making them a more suitable choice for longer journeys.
3. Portability and Storage
One of the biggest benefits of electric scooters is their portability. Most models are lightweight, making them easy to store and transport. If you live in a small apartment or need to take your ride on public transport, an electric scooter could be the better option. E-bikes, while still manageable, tend to be bulkier and may require more storage space.
4. Legal Regulations
It’s important to understand the legal regulations regarding electric scooters and e-bikes before making a purchase. In many areas, electric scooters are subject to different rules than e-bikes. Some regions require electric scooters to be registered, while e-bikes may not have such requirements. Always check local laws to ensure you comply with safety and operational guidelines.
5. Cost
Cost is another key factor when choosing between an electric scooter and an e-bike. Generally, electric scooters are more affordable than e-bikes, making them appealing for budget-conscious buyers. However, prices can vary based on brand and features. For instance, if you’re looking at electric scooters, you might want to consider options from Yukie Motors, which are known for their quality and affordability, catering to various commuting needs.
Pros and Cons of Electric Scooters
Pros:
Easy to Use: Electric scooters are typically user-friendly, requiring little to no prior experience.
Compact Size: Their small footprint allows for easy storage and transport.
Affordable: Generally, electric scooters have a lower initial purchase cost.
Cons:
Limited Range: Most electric scooters have a shorter range compared to e-bikes.
Less Comfortable: Standing for extended periods can be uncomfortable for some riders.
Pros and Cons of E-Bikes
Pros:
Comfortable Riding Experience: E-bikes offer a more comfortable ride, especially for longer distances.
Higher Range: With their pedal-assist feature, e-bikes can cover greater distances on a single charge.
Exercise Benefits: Riding an e-bike still allows for physical activity, promoting a healthier lifestyle.
Cons:
Higher Cost: E-bikes typically have a higher upfront cost compared to electric scooters.
Bulky Design: They can be heavier and more cumbersome to transport.
Making Your Decision
Ultimately, the decision between an electric scooter and an e-bike hinges on your individual needs and lifestyle. If you’re looking for a quick and cost-effective way to weave through city traffic, an electric scooter could be the perfect choice. On the other hand, if you prioritize comfort and have longer commutes, an e-bike may be more appropriate.
When weighing your options, it’s crucial to consider the brand and model that best meet your requirements. Yukie Motors provides a variety of electric scooters that balance performance and affordability, helping you find the right match for your commuting needs.
Conclusion
In conclusion, both electric scooters and e-bikes come with their own set of pros and cons. Your decision should reflect your commuting habits, budget, and personal tastes. Whether you opt for an electric scooter for its convenience or an e-bike for its comfort and distance capabilities, both alternatives offer eco-friendly solutions to contemporary transportation issues. By grasping the distinctions and evaluating your specific needs, you can make a well-informed choice that improves your daily commute. Don’t forget to check out options from reputable brands like Yukie Motors to discover the perfect electric scooter for your lifestyle!

Simplify Your Move with MoverJunction: Quotes, Companies, and Guides
Deducting Your Moving Expenses: What’s Eligible and What’s Not? Every little bit helps when it comes to paring down moving expenses. So it might be a happy surprise to learn that Uncle Sam offers a little relief at tax time, at least if the move is work-related.
The IRS doesn’t dole out tax breaks freely, so you’ll have to meet their criteria, which is published in their “Moving Expenses: Publication 521 (2015). If you do, moving might sting a whole lot less.
General Requirements for Earning a Tax Deduction
The basic criteria that qualify you for a tax break on moving expenses deal with the purpose of your move, how far you’ll travel and the time involved. To prequalify for a deduction, you must meet these restrictions:
Your move is directly connected to the start of a new job You meet the IRS distance text You meet the IRS time test Moving across town to start a new job probably won’t make the cut. But genuine relocation to another area might. Visit moverjunction.com to learn about professional movers and what to expect.
Meeting the IRS Tests
Starting a new job doesn’t automatically qualify you for a tax break. Starting a new job that requires you to relocate to a new area often does. The IRS looks at the time and the place of the new job as compared to your move to decide whether or not a deduction is allowable.
Moving a short distance doesn’t measure up to the IRS distance requirements. So in addition to moving for a job and making the move at the right time, you must also need to make that move. According to the IRS, 50 miles is the make-or-break line. Here’s how they calculate it: your new job must be 50 miles farther away from your old home than your previous job was. Pretty simple.
As for the time test, both employees and self-employed people can qualify as long as either is a full-time job. As an employee, you must work a minimum of 39 weeks out of the first year after you move to the new home. They don’t have to be consecutive weeks. If you’re self-employed, you must meet the same requirements, but for 78 weeks out of two years instead of 39 weeks out of one year.
Moving expenses Save your receipts. If you moved this year, the time requirement means that deductions might not apply until one or two years have passed. What You Can Deduct
Publication 521 also explains what’s deductible and what’s not. In general, the guidelines are just a reasonable way of considering moving expenses. If it’s related to the move, it’s usually deductible. If it’s not related, such as the meals you eat along the way, it’s not deductible. Here’s what’s allowable:
Travel by car (explicitly excluding air or rail travel or public transportation) Gas, oil, and other consumables used on the trip Driving and parking fees and tolls Lodging on the trip plus one extra day’s motel or hotel lodging after you arrive Packing, crating and hauling household goods Utility connect and disconnect fees Vehicle shipment Pet shipment / transportation Household goods storage and insurance for 30 days The same expenses for every person in the household. So if you drive two cars and get two rooms for lodging, both are deductible. What Doesn’t Qualify
The IRS imposes reasonable restrictions on what you can deduct from your taxes. Don’t expect to get a tax break for a big meal at a steak house along the way. And entertainment along the way is all on your own dime, too. Here’s what Uncle Sam frowns on:
Repeated trips to the new home. You can only deduct one trip. General vehicle repairs, maintenance or depreciation Lodging at your new location that exceeds one night. Shipping or purchase cost of furniture bought en-route to the new home. Household goods storage that exceeds 30 days Tax breaks might not help with hiring a mover or buying packing supplies, but they can certainly come in handy later. And you know what they say: a penny saved is a penny earned.
In general, tax deductions are allowable for anything that’s reasonable. But also be aware that federal guidelines change. Before you make a move, be sure to check out the IRS website to learn whether there have been any updates. You might even find that more deductions are allowed than before.
When you’re ready to make a move, we can help connect you with a great moving company with solid, trustworthy credentials. That’s peace of mind. Contact us today and get a free moving quote.
