its so frustrating how a lot of scu fans cant handle other sonic fans not having the exact same taste in sonic media that they do. like i feel like you can say something negative about literally any other sonic media on here and people generally wouldnt care that much but the second you say anything less than positive about the movies people start getting all weird about it and trying to argue with you ive had it happen to me and seen it happen to others as well .... like the sonic franchise is very big and has many different media types and writing styles not everyone is going to uncritically love everything. get over it ? im not trying to be mean but idk what else to tell you
#this isnt solely about the person who sent me that ask last night i was actually already thinking abut it before#(though it is very confusing that they did i literally havetn been talking about the movies lately they just yelled at me out of nowhere#i mean they apologized so no big deal i guess but like. huh)#i mean i understand not wanting to see a bunch of hate of something you like and its fine to disagree with peoples criticisms#but people are being VERY unreasonable about it when it comes to sonic 3#cant help but wonder if this sort of behavior is a result of the fact that a lot of people acting this way got into sonic through the movie#after sonic's reputation improved a bit and dont know what constant widespread hate for everything sonic actually looks like#so they dont know how to handle criticism or opinions they disagree with regarding what sonic media is good or bad#and place sonic fans criticizing it because they love sonic and think sonic and its stories and characters deserves better#in the same category as people who just mindlessly hate on sonic for no reason#not that im saying anyone who likes the movies is a new fan or that new fans are fake fans but you get what i mean hopefully#also this is going into hater mode but personally. sonic 3 is one of the least deserving candidates of this type of defensiveness#like. for one its not that goodand actively disrespects the source material in so many ways. but thats more of a subjective opinion i guess#but also its a very popular and successful movie . most people who watched it liked it from what ive seen#randos on tumblr not liking it isnt taking away from that ??????#also paramount doesnt deserve your money anyway#like whats the point in defending it so hard . who cares..

I swear to God, each time there was a discussion about fanfic in general there's always some haters, this is why one time I go on a full rant on twitter that my favourite fanfic writer decided to delete a bunch of their fics because of the hate, mind you it was tagged properly, twice, once in the post and once in idk some kind of website and they put it on the title, and it was also capitalized and passworded, I mean I'm not surprised because it's twitter but the amount of stupidity one have is extremely astonishing, I mean, academically, I'm bad, but I'm not that stupid. Sure if you're a victim, have PTSD, or bla bla bla, or it's "morally incorrect", I'm also a victim of child abuse and other things but I'm not going to bother people with it, it's literally a public space, human as a whole has "free will" which mean if the tags triggered you and you don't like it then don't f****** read, if you decide to read it and want to spread hate or terrorise the author because of it then you're the a**hole, and don't started with me about morality, if that isn't right with you then just don't look at it? It doesn't harm anyone, we literally live in a world full of ambiguous morals all around us and the one you decide to focus on is fanfics? Speak to me about morality when you're not a hypocrite, you make Sigmund Freud and Friedrich Nietzsche looks like an angel

Shen Yuan, 22, starts playing Proud Immortal Demon Way, a well-known Otome game, and gets insanely frustrated at the fickle point system, coding errors, and totally unbelievable dialogue! He absolutely trashes the game across all platforms - from Twitter to Reddit, there's no one who is a more dedicated hater than he is! His ratios on all platforms are not exactly in his favour... At the root of it all lies his hatred of Otome games in general - Shen Yuan hates being unable to say what he truly means.
Then one day… he bumps into Luo Binghe irl. Literally. In Liu Qingge’s pretentious uptown coffee shop of all places- face planting right between the man’s tits while he’s distracted by harassing someone on Twitter - oh my god, what kind of bad cliche is this??!?!?!!! At first, he’s so shocked he can’t even speak to apologise, staring dumbly at the fucking Adonis in front of him. When he finds his voice again, he squeaks out an embarrassing “sorry!” before scuttling off, right out the cafe door from whence he came. And without his coffee! The stranger didn’t even look that much like Luo Binghe from the game! Right……?
It doesn’t seem to matter… until he arrives at work to find fucking MOBEI-JUN!!! THE GUEST EXECUTIVE FROM THE COMPANY’S MAIN BRANCH!!!! Shen Yuan stares at him for an embarrassing amount of time, to the point that Mobei-Jun raises his eyebrow in question, before gesturing to the seat beside him. Shen Yuan…………... IS GONNA DIE!!!!!! Men can’t… they can't be allowed to sit like that! It should not be allowed! It's not like Mobei-Jun is really doing anything special, one ankle resting up on his knee, legs spread wide open and… SHEN YUAN PREFERS TO USE HIS IMAGINATION!!! THANK YOU!!!! At least his imagination isn’t so dangerous for his heart…
Shen Yuan can explain away many things, including not-Luo Binghe’s appearance at the coffee shop and Mobei-Jun being. Entirely Mobei-Jun, name, and all. But when it happens a third time!!!!! Shen Yuan becomes convinced he’s cursed. Yue Qingyuan might be the whiniest, most tragic character in the game but god he is so tall, his shoulders are so broad, and his smile- This is not allowed. Shen Yuan is sure there has to be some kind of karmic law against this. He’s been cursed, oh my god, he’s totally been cursed. Coffee shop not-Binghe, workbei-Jun, and now new neighbour Qingyuan. NO ONE’S BEEN IN THAT APARTMENT IN DECADES!!! WHY NOW!!! WHY SHEN YUAN??????
It only gets worse from there.
Mobei-Jun might not give a flying FUCK about Shen Yuan, his sole focus remaining on Shen Yuan’s insufferable colleague, Shang Qinghua, but that doesn’t stop Shen Yuan from getting almost-boners every time the man scoots behind his chair to go to the bathroom during long meetings, or stares at him with interest when he presents a PowerPoint manifestation of the ideas he had at 3am. And Yue Qingyuan might definitely be trying to get in Shen Yuan’s pants and Shen Yuan knows as soon as he unlocks this man’s backstory his life will be ruined but that doesn’t exactly mean he’s avoiding the free food and company he offers.
The only person he hasn’t seen recently is not-Luo Binghe… which is good! Luo Binghe hates Shen Yuan in PIDW, who’s to say real life won’t be the same? Shen Yuan prefers to be an asshole through the screen, not in real life where the risk of a man who you could fit two liquidised Shen Yuan’s into punching him in the face is very very real. This lack of meeting might also be because Shen Yuan hasn’t gone back to Qingge’s coffee place for two weeks. The man (friend???) in question, a coffee connoisseur (apparently) may or may not be threatening his life for skipping his morning stop for so long.
Unfortunately, Shen Qingqiu is stupid, so after those two weeks he assumes the coast is clear and it’s safe to return. It is not. Sat out the front, Luo Binghe is just as tall and unfairly beautiful as last time Shen Yuan had the misfortune of bumping into him. And nope, no, Shen Yuan was wrong this guy and Luo Binghe are fucking identical save for the sweet smile plastered across real-Luo Binghe’s face. As if he could get more attractive. THIS IS SO TWISTED. In another fit of brightness, Shen Yuan pretends not to notice him. Orders his coffee as per usual. He’s almost made it to the end of his order before Luo Binghe goes and ruins everything.
“I’ll pay for it,” Binghe announces cheerily, reaching over Shen Yuan’s shoulder with a credit card. Daddy’s money no doubt. What was his aggravatingly wealthy father's name in-game? Ugh, asshole. Shen Yuan splutters some kind of refusal, but Binghe just hums pleasantly. “You forgot yours last time. They were calling… cucumber for a long time…”
Shen Yuan just needs to go home and kill himself. Right now. He considers scurrying away again, but bracketed between Binghe’s massive arms and the till he just mumbled out a miserable “thank you,” and resigns himself to fate. Luo Binghe finishes his order for him. It’s kind of creepy. Which makes it hot. This definitely doesn't say anything about Shen Yuan sexually or developmentally. Shen Yuan ah, Shen Yuan. At least he rests easy in the fact that real-Binghe is definitely not coming onto him. After all, in PIDW the man doesn't really hate Shen Yuan for Shen Yuan, but for his female persona.
They both wait for his coffee in a corner, Luo Binghe standing so close to him their forearms are almost touching. Shen Yuan regrets wearing a short-sleeve dress shirt today. He regrets being alive at all, actually. He would reach for his jacket but that would mean their arms definitely would touch and he would rather tie himself to a pyre and light the match with his teeth.
“Cucumber?” the server says, unsure. Clearly new. Awesome. Shen Qingqiu now needs to gain back twice the karmic points he lost telling anyone other than Liu Qingge about that stupid fucking pseud. Luo Binghe follows him like a puppy out of the coffee shop. Shen Qingqiu coughs awkwardly.
“Thank you,” he says again. Luo Binghe cocks his head. Like a fucking dog!!! If he knew Luo Binghe was so cute maybe he’d give him a chance in-game… Shen Qingqiu barely avoids smacking himself in the face to tamp down the heat rising in his cheeks.
“You’re welcome… cucumber?”
“Shen Yuan,” Shen Yuan offers his real name with a huff.
“Luo Binghe,” Luo Binghe responds, beaming.
“I know.” Ah. Shen Yuan. You really can’t help yourself, can you?
Luo Binghe cocks his head the other way.
“Bye,” Shen Yuan waves stiffly before breaking into a full-out sprint down the sidewalk. FUCK! FUCK! NEVER EVER EVER GOING BACK TO THAT COFFEE SHOP! SORRY LIU QINGGE!!!!!!

Summary: It was supposed to be a normal frat party. Just a stupid game of Seven Minutes in Heaven. Just him, king of never taking anything seriously, getting shoved into a closet for a dumb dare. And yet. Now, he can’t sleep. Can’t think. Can’t stop thinking about you. And one by one, his friends are starting to realize—Whatever happened in that closet? It never really ended.
Outside in the garden, Toji mocked. "Man got a straight-up haunted hard-on."
"Wait, wait, wait," Sukuna wheezed. "Tell me why bro just made out with a ghost so hard he got a fucking boner."
"Can we not call it that?" Satoru groaned.
"That’s exactly what it was," Hiromi confirmed, shaking his head. "You got seduced by a fucking spirit."
Shiu, lying on the grass scrolling through his phone, barely looked up as he added, "Even in the afterlife, women aren’t safe from your dick preceding your reputation."
"I'm gonna kill myself," Satoru muttered, running a hand down his face.
"Ghost girl might be into that," Choso said thoughtfully, sipping a beer.
"Yo, shut the fuck up," Satoru snapped.
"You were rock hard for a literal corpse." Shoko was almost rolling in the grass, clutching her bottle.
"FOR THE LAST TIME, I DIDN’T KNOW SHE WAS A GHOST!"
"And yet," Suguru drawled, gesturing vaguely at the still-very-visible problem in his jeans.
Satoru made a strangled noise, willing his soul to leave his body.
“If I see your haunted dick in my nightmares, I’m suing." Yuki yelled.
"I have hater friends. At least she thought I was beautiful." Satoru smirked.
A collective groan echoed through the garden.
Kento dragged a hand down his face. "I hate him. I hate him."
"Fucker just got ghosted in every sense of the word, and he still has the audacity to make it about his looks." Kashimo jeered, leaning on Haibara, who was barely holding himself up.
"Kill yourself," Sukuna muttered.
"Honestly, yeah," Hiromi agreed.
Satoru just grinned. "Jealous much?"
Suguru physically sighed. "Let's go, you delusional horny disaster."

Satoru couldn’t stop thinking about you.
Not the way your lips had felt against his, or how you made him laugh, or how you got flustered easily but still kissed him first like a paradox he couldn’t solve—though that haunted him, too.
No, it was the way you had looked at him.
Like you had been starving.
So, Satoru did what any rational person would do.
He spent an unhealthy amount of time at the library.
Gojo Satoru. At the library. Voluntarily. His friends thought he was having a crisis.
At first, there was nothing.
No students matching your description in the recent records.
No tragic accidents or ghost stories written in the university archives.
It was like you had never existed.
But then—
One night, while flipping through the school’s oldest records, something caught his eye.
An envelope stuffed with papers.
He pulled out a diary first.
Diary of Miss L/N
(Archivist - Leather-bound, gold-embossed. Found in the ruins of the university, its final pages splattered with what appears to be dried tears. Handwritten, ink fading in places. Some pages torn. Final entries nearly illegible—written in a shaking hand, desperate and uneven.)
January 3, 1914
There is a new litter of kittens in the old courtyard! I counted five, all squirming and mewling, their mother, a thin little thing who watches me with wary eyes. I left some bread soaked in milk, though I do not think she trusts me yet. Perhaps if I sit quietly tomorrow, she will let me closer.
(If I were a cat, would I be loved more easily?)
The groundskeeper scolded me, said I am too soft-hearted, that I let animals take advantage of me. As if a kitten could be cunning! I told him there is no harm in kindness. He only shook his head.
Satoru sat back, staring at the first entry, his thumb tracing your handwriting. He didn’t know much about you—hell, he didn’t even know you were alive a hundred years ago—but he could picture you, kneeling in the courtyard with kittens, trying to be kind. He imagined the faintest smile tugging at your lips when you saw them squirming in the dirt. The idea of you feeding a stray mother cat made his chest tighten in an odd, unfamiliar way. He ran his fingers along the edge of the paper, almost as if trying to feel your presence through it.
That groundskeeper? He was an idiot. He didn't get it. Satoru couldn't help but feel a spark of frustration. You didn’t need anyone’s permission to be kind. He almost laughed at the idea that someone might scold you for being soft-hearted. If anything, he wished he could go back and tell you not to worry about those around you. He would’ve probably looked at you the same way—the way he did when you kissed him, not knowing why or how, but unable to stop himself from caring just a little too much for someone so—soft.
January 10, 1914
I do not think they like me.
Not in the way they like each other.
They are polite, of course. They smile. They call me ‘Miss L/N’ with syrupy sweetness, but their eyes flicker. I see the way their lips press together when I speak. The way their laughter dies when I enter a room.
But it is alright. Not everyone has to like me.
I just wish they did not hate me, either.
Satoru skimmed the next entry, his eyes narrowing. You were already noticing the tension in the air, weren’t you? The polite smiles, the murmurs. The fake sweetness they showed you—he could practically hear the insincerity in their voices. He frowned, shaking his head. You didn’t deserve that. Nobody should ever make someone feel like they didn’t belong.
For some reason, even though you were long gone, he found himself angry on your behalf. He didn’t understand why they treated you that way. You were probably just too good for them, weren’t you? Too pure, too gentle. He shook the thought off, the sharpness of the moment still biting at him. It made him wonder if maybe he would’ve been one of the few who would’ve actually liked you.
January 25, 1913
Viscount Salvatore looked at me today. He did not merely glance—he looked. I was in the library, carrying too many books, and he leaned back in his chair, all effortless indifference, and drawled, "Planning to read all of those, Miss L/N? Or are you building a fort?"
(He thinks I am ridiculous.)
(He noticed me.)
I almost dropped Wuthering Heights on my foot.
A frown burrowed on Satoru’s face when he read about Viscount Salvatore. You noticed him. He noticed you.
He flipped your yearbook with his other hand to find any Salvtores; there had been two in your class who’d gone to become Army officials in the first World War and then died there. Your description fit the blue-eyed one with a cocky smirk. Like Satoru? Did you have a type?
He felt a slight sting in his chest at the thought of this Viscount—some guy who probably had no idea what to do with someone like you. Still, he couldn’t suppress the bitter taste in his mouth. Jealousy? Was that what this was?
A sigh slipped from his lips. It was stupid—he was more than a hundred years too late. He didn’t even know if you’d ever seen him the way he now imagined you looking at the Viscount. The thought of another guy noticing you—really noticing you—made him want to jump from a boat. But instead, he read on.
February 2, 1914
It was a joke. Just a prank.
"She'll cry and beg to be let out," one of them whispered, giggling behind her lace glove. "Let's see if Miss Perfect is still so polite in the dark."
The door slammed. The lock clicked.
The dark swallowed me whole.
I did not beg.
I bit my tongue until I tasted iron and waited. And when they let me out—smirking, triumphant—I smoothed my skirts, fixed my hair, and walked past them as if I had not spent the last hour choking on the thick, dusty air.
They did not like that.
"A little too perfect, isn’t she?"
(They will do it again.)
Satoru’s eyebrows furrowed as his gaze lingered on the next entry. You were trapped. Locked in a closet by the very people you probably thought were your friends. It was sickening. He almost couldn't finish reading—his stomach lurched with disgust. The way you didn't beg... it said so much about you. You must’ve been used to pain by then, used to being pushed aside and ignored. But still—you walked out of there like nothing had happened, like you didn’t carry the weight of what they had just done to you.
Satoru shook his head, muttering to himself, “Cowards. All of them.” He clenched the paper tighter in his hand. He hated the idea of you facing that kind of cruelty alone, without anyone there to stop it. He could feel it—your loneliness, your frustration, your unwillingness to break. And somehow, it only made him want to be there for you more. He'd never admit it, but there was a strange urge within him to make it right—even if it was a century too late.
February 10, 1914
Today, I found a sparrow with a broken wing. I named him Edgar (after Poe, of course).
I should have left him alone. Mother says I should not dirty my hands with such things. But he was shivering—how could I leave him?
Viscount Salvatore saw me, kneeling in the grass, my gloves stained with dirt. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
Then, just as he passed, he murmured, "Don’t name it. You’ll only make it harder."
He has such an awful way of speaking. Always so practical. So cold.
(He was right. Edgar did not make it through the night.)
Satoru didn’t expect to feel as deeply affected by this entry. You found a broken bird and tried to help it. Just like the kittens. Just like everything else. He read about the sparrow, Edgar, and that bitter, practical remark from Viscount Salvatore.
He rolled his eyes. That guy was cold, wasn’t he? It was almost like he couldn't even understand that you just wanted to do something kind. His jaw clenched slightly at the thought of this Viscount, cold and indifferent. Did he not understand the pain of losing something you tried so desperately to save?
“You deserved better than that.” Satoru muttered quietly to himself. He could barely comprehend it, but it stung to think of you, caring for something so fragile, and yet not having anyone there to help you when you needed it most. He could almost hear the sadness in your voice, like you were speaking not just about the bird, but about yourself.
February 13, 1914
Razor blades in my book bag today.
I did not see them in time.
A sharp sting—red seeping into my gloves, blooming against the pale silk like a dying rose.
A girl gasped.
One of them. The one who used to call me her friend.
She reached for me, hesitated. Opened her mouth—closed it.
Did nothing.
(They are all cowards.)
I smiled at her anyway.
(It is getting harder to smile.)
The entry made Satoru stop in his tracks. Razor blades? What the hell...? He had to reread the paragraph twice, the sharpness of the words sinking into him with every line. It was hard to stomach—knowing that someone, one of the people who had once called you their friend, did this to you. Left you bleeding and didn’t even care.
He felt a fire burning in his chest now, a rage that was foreign to him. A strange protectiveness, something darker, almost suffocating. He didn't know how you had kept going through all this. And yet, you had. You smiled through it all, even when everything in the world was trying to break you.
Satoru stood up suddenly, pacing around the room. He was aware of how ridiculous this was—he didn’t even know you. But damn it, you deserved someone who would’ve fought for you. Someone who would’ve taken those blades from your hands and never let you feel alone.
February 14, 1914
Viscount Salvatore pulled out a chair for me today.
The smallest thing. A flick of his wrist. A glance in my direction. A murmured, "Miss L/N."
But I have not been spoken to kindly in so long.
For a moment, my eyes burned. My throat ached.
But I said nothing. I only sat.
And when I looked up—just for a second—he was already watching me.
(What a strange, strange man.)
Satoru’s fingers lightly brushed over the paper. He didn’t know what it was, but something about that entry—Viscount Salvatore pulling out a chair for you—made him pause. He didn't react outwardly, keeping his face carefully blank, but internally? There was a slight stir of discomfort. It was such a small, insignificant thing, yet it meant so much to you. A simple gesture, something that should’ve been normal.
He imagined the quiet moment, your surprise. The thought that such a little thing could make you feel seen, even for a second, gnawed at him. A frustrated sigh left his lips. Why did it have to be like that? If he were there—if only he were there, he would’ve shown you kindness, not just with gestures, but with actions. But that was a thought he quickly pushed aside, frustrated by how much time had slipped through his fingers. He kept reading, though.
February 20, 1914
I have decided. I loathe Viscount Salvatore.
He is insufferable. He speaks in riddles and always looks as if he is laughing at me. I do not know why I bother thinking of him.
(He held the door open for me today. Said nothing. Just waited.)
(I hate him.)
A faint chuckle escaped his lips as he read the next entry. You’d decided to loathe Viscount Salvatore now. "Insufferable," you called him. Satoru almost wanted to agree, though he couldn't completely share your sentiment. He had a feeling there was more to him—more that was left unsaid. Still, it was a funny thought. Viscount Salvatore being that frustrating, mysterious figure. Satoru was intrigued by how you wrote about him with such sharpness, but the words seemed like a cover for something deeper. He wasn’t sure what, but the tension between you two was palpable.
“Is it really that bad?” he muttered, flipping the page, knowing he wasn’t going to get an answer. He felt a flicker of something, but the rest of the entry, especially with the way he “held the door open,” left him feeling... unsure. He wasn't exactly proud of it, but maybe there was some part of him that didn't want you to find comfort in anyone else.
March 2, 1914
I found a dead rat in my desk.
Its body bloated, eyes staring.
Its tiny mouth open, frozen in a silent scream.
There was a note pinned to its belly. Still feeling generous?
I swallowed back the nausea and took it outside myself.

Satoru’s expression hardened as he read about the dead rat in your desk. He closed his eyes briefly, forcing himself to focus. The cruel games they played—it disgusted him. He could almost feel the sickening weight of it, as if it were happening right there, in front of him. Who does that? He set the paper down and ran his hand through his hair, trying to keep his composure, though his jaw was tight.
You didn’t even flinch. You simply took it outside. There was an odd kind of resolve in the way you wrote that. No begging. No breaking down. Just... handling it yourself. It made him uneasy—how much you had to endure, and how little anyone had cared. He couldn’t imagine what you went through, not yet, but the pieces were starting to come together. The cruelty. The silence. The isolation.
June 20, 1914
I am tired.
No, not tired. Weary.
I wake up with my body braced, waiting for something—waiting for the next whisper, the next cruel trick, the next unseen hand that will shove me down the stairs when no one is looking.
I have not eaten all day.
(They will not break me.)
The word “weary” hit Satoru like a punch to the gut. He could picture you, slumped in exhaustion, never having the chance to recover. He could almost hear the quiet panic that sat beneath those words. The next cruel trick, the next shove—it was too much. His hand tightened around the paper as he read on.
He didn’t need to know everything to understand that what you were going through wasn’t just physical. It was something deeper. Something that made your bones ache and your heart heavy. And yet, here you were, still breathing, still defiant. He let out a breath, annoyed at the powerlessness he felt just from reading your words.
July 24, 1914
I am going to the party.
They said they want to start over. That it was all just foolish jealousy. That they want to be friends.
I should not believe them.
I know I should not believe them.
But I am so, so tired of being alone.
Just for one night, I want to pretend I belong.
Satoru frowned, eyes narrowing. The truth was already in your words before you even said it. He felt an odd mix of sympathy and frustration as you told yourself you were going to the party—hoping, wishing to belong, even for just one night. He had to read that part again, swallowing a lump in his throat.
He flipped the page; the diary ended. Satoru immediately scrambled to pull out another stack of papers from the binder.

They lied.
Of course they lied.
The music was loud. The air was thick with cigarette smoke and laughter. For the first time in years, I thought—maybe.
Then hands.
Grabbing. Dragging.
"Let’s see how perfect you are now."
They locked me inside.
A closet. Small. Cramped.
The door will not open.

Personal view, as someone who grew up in an abusive environment and is hyper-reactive to seeing children in distress or being mistreated by adults, including in fictional depictions, I never felt the kids in Harry Potter were in any danger from Snape. He’s bitchy and snarky, yes. But no more so than other teachers in Hogwarts. And from what I’ve experienced in the fandom, a lot of Snape fans are abuse survivors in some shape or form. He’s a complex character, and unlike a lot of fictional abuse survivors, he can actually be angry and rage. It’s very cathartic for people who have had to mask and suppress their negative emotions in real life.
It's curious how most Severus fans tend to be survivors of bullying or people who see themselves reflected in him because they went through similar experiences in school, or people who have experienced violence at home. Meanwhile, the haters are simply kids who have a terrible teacher and project that onto Snape, so they hate him.
If we're going to play the "I had terrible teachers, so I know how it feels" card, then I can use that too. Not only did I have terrible teachers—so bad that what they did was absolutely reportable and punishable—but in university, I even had professors who LITERALLY made students cry with their critiques. And yes, I’m very angry with those teachers. Even though I wasn’t always a direct victim, thinking about the teachers from my old school fills me with rage. And yes, whenever I’ve run into some of them on the street, I’ve made sure to say something to them in a super passive-aggressive way.
But the thing is, I don’t see any of them in Severus. Not a single one.
Severus has always reminded me of a literature teacher I had in my last years of school. He was a guy who taught classes to make some money while finishing his university doctorate—clearly, his goal was to be a researcher or teach at a university level. And you could tell from a mile away that he HATED having to teach teenagers. But hey, the school paycheck was good, right? I’m not going to blame him for that. The thing is, he had a degree in Philosophy and Literature and had a level way above that of a regular high school teacher.
I remember he was young. At the time, he seemed like an old man to me because when you're 16, anyone over 20 seems ancient, but he probably wasn’t even 35 yet. The thing is, he had no patience for nonsense. He hated childish antics in class, got annoyed by dumb questions, and if he explained something and someone asked the exact same thing two minutes later, he would clearly get irritated. I remember once a kid told him he had just read the latest Dan Brown novel, and this guy, with the most cunty smirk, said, "Well, I wouldn't know about that, Mr. X. I don't read mass-market literature." And it was like… lol why so mean? But I found it hilarious.
He was the only teacher who called us by our last names and never used informal speech, which was shocking to us because it never happened with other teachers. He rarely attended staff meetings or team dinners (a teacher who was actually abusive and spent entire classes physically humiliating 15-year-olds used to complain about that a lot). You almost never saw him interacting with other teachers because, honestly, I’ve always had the feeling that he thought his colleagues were idiots—and I don’t blame him. If I worked with that bunch today, I’d think they were idiots too.
Now, this guy was strict. Very strict. If you got a 4.9, he wasn’t giving you a 5, because you didn’t get a 5. He wasn’t going to be nice to you unless he thought it was strictly necessary. He wasn’t going to be warm, he wasn’t going to be friendly, he wasn’t going to be funny. He despised mainstream literature and bestsellers, believed certain books were absolute garbage, and thought people who only read that kind of stuff didn’t actually understand literature and lacked the braincells for it. You could agree or disagree with him, but his behavior wasn’t abusive.
Was he sometimes too blunt? Did he have incredibly sharp, sometimes unpleasant responses? Yes. And, funnily enough, this teacher was widely disliked precisely because he was one of the strictest ones. He was hated even more than the guy who groped female students or the one who called kids fat, gave them weight-loss tips, and told girls they dressed like prostitutes if they wore certain tops. But those guys used informal speech, gave you a 5 if you got a 4.6, and weren’t that strict, so people didn’t hate them as much.
That’s why Severus always reminded me of this guy. Ironically, I really liked him because I appreciated his sardonic, sharp humor, and he appreciated that I had read One Hundred Years of Solitude at 12 lol. But above all, he liked that, even though I never paid attention in his classes because I physically couldn’t focus on a lecture for more than 10 minutes, I never disrupted anything. I never got caught talking, never caused trouble—I was just drawing my stuff or reading things unrelated to the lesson, but I wasn’t bothering anyone.
And honestly, I think that’s all Severus wanted from his students: for them not to be a pain in his ass. And if he was an even bigger jerk to some, it was precisely because they got on his nerves the most.
The Weasley twins were total chaos and constantly acting like fools, yet they never have a bad word to say about Snape throughout the saga besides that he was kinda mean sometimes. Why is that? Maybe because they didn’t put the whole class in danger? Maybe because, while they were insufferable in the hallways, they knew they had to tone it down in Potions?
Only two people have a real problem with Severus as a teacher throughout the saga: one is Harry, who disrespects him from day one, constantly challenges him, talks back, breaks the rules, and does exactly the opposite of what Severus tells him. The other is Neville, who basically exists to give Severus seven consecutive nervous breakdowns in a single class.
That doesn’t make you an abuser—it makes you an adult who is sick to death of two pain-in-the-ass kids.

One of my least favourite genres of "fans" in the fandoms are people who chronically mis-diagnose who is a drama-bent hater in any given discourse.
Like, for example, you know cringe Gehrman haters who not only have reasons TO hate this character that go completely against things stated in canon to begin with, but also consistently try to make a point about how fans of this characters are irrational and "try so hard for *gasp* CIS WHITE MAAALE", if not accuse them of being misogyny apologists? Yet they are "just silly people with their own opinions 🥺", but someone who points out how this behavior is obnoxious, unfair and makes fandom a worse place? Now THAT'S a bad person who stirs up the drama in their eyes! And not toxic people who made them retort in the first place! Similar situation with Godrick, minus the misogyny accusations bit.
Or, you know fans of Malenia and Miquella who are particularly obnoxious and will spread hostility and toxicity towards any fans whose reading of these characters is a single bit critical, if not straight up harass those with "heretical" readings of them? The loosers that will scream misogyny / media illiteracy / etc if someone (correctly) thinks these characters done some wrong shit, and who became straight up cultish because SOTE crashed their perfect pure innocent idol expectation that they kept using as excuse to be toxic? They are "just fed up with weird Redditors and try to cope with shitty Fromslop writing 🥺". However, someone who points out THEY are the actual problem in the fandom and have been such even before the DLC? Now, this is the bad person that stirs drama. Similar with Marika, only SOTE gave her toxic stans more means to harass "heretics" over the awful sin of giving her complexity and agency, rather than crashed their idol.
Like, yeah, sure. How daaaare you to point out unfairness in the fandom and react at fans bullying other fans for no reason! :т I have very concrete names in mind during typing this post and I am glad those people fucked off from my field of vision for good. I don't know who the hell taught them that bullying is completely acceptable but it is reacting at that bullying that is bad and immature. You guys should be less accepting of toxic people who deliberately cultivate hostility towards fans who did nothing wrong and then play victims when someone doesn't have it, instead of pushing that spineless "be a bigger person" crap. Being a pushover is not "bigger person". Also just because you also dislike/like a character that became the cornerstone of toxicity doesn't mean you should accept literally any nonsense your "fellow fans" do, like if you are some sort of "community uwu" that can't afford "losing" a single member, no matter how bad?

I especially hate when people say Lucy's only personality is liking Atsushi, bc it literally isn't. She's actually was already fleshed out during the guild arc and the reason it seems like her only personality is liking Atsushi is bc the fandom only seems to care abt her in the context of Atsushi. Also regarding canon itself Atsushi IS essential to Lucy's character development, their relationship is the turning point for Lucy's character. Lucy would not have turned away from the Guild if not for Atsushi.
The one point I'll give the haters is we don't know much abt Lucy's relationships outside of Atsushi which I admit is unfortunate but that kind of applies to most of the Guild, since there hasnt been like, any extra Guild centric content and most of the members only get screentime/relationship development with one specific other character (Steinbeck and Lovecraft, Hawthorn and Margaret, Louisa and Fitzgerald, Poe and Ranpo).
Also even if you step into the haters shoes, Poe is arguably more centered around Ranpo than Lucy is around Atsushi (seriously even his backstory was facilitated by Ranpo's presence) but a good portion of the fandom adores him regardless.
(also disclaimer this isn't to say I think Poe is badly written)

why do some (not all) bsd fans hate the female characters so much? i don’t get it. like, everybody hates teruko for just DOING HER JOB because she was fighting sigma. then people say, ‘oh, i don’t like her because her childish personality is annoying not because she’s a woman just TRYING TO DO HER JOB’ and then their favorite character is ranpo. or, people will hate a female character because she ‘gets in the way of their favorite ship’. if you haven’t seen this before i’m happy for you, but an example is ‘lucy gets in the way of sskk!!’ seriously? like, seriously? that is so fucking stupid. (saying this as a sskk/taniatsu shipper) just ship whatever you want and let that character exist. and to those who deny this, if lucy was a man and akutagawa was a woman you’d hate akutagawa because she ‘gets in the way of atsulucy’ there’s also the ‘oh, her only personality is liking a man!!’ when we were first introduced to katai his only personality trait was liking a woman and the fandom still loved him. i don’t like that in any character, but i’m willing to put up with it if the author fleshes out the character’s personality later. i absolutely despise the way this fandom treats female characters, yeah, some of their writing isn’t the best but they’re still necessary to the plot. this has been lou. i’m sorry for all the rants i’ve been doing recently, but i’m pissed about a lot of things. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

people who act like batman isn't "judge jury and executioner" because he doesn't kill people are like. genuinely so funny to me because. they're very obviously thinking of "executioner" as like. the stereotypical guy with axe who chops people heads off, and not, yknow, the literal definition of the idiom itself, which is about someone who has the ability to judge and then subsequently punish someone unilaterally. which is quite literally what batman does.
he has the ability to decide what is a "crime" to him, he is the one who decides whether people are guilty of those crimes, and he is the one who executes their punishment. the severity of the punishment doesn't matter - he is unaccountable to anyone else, and indeed is allowed to commit as many crimes as needed to reach his arbitrary ideal of "justice."
the ideal of batman is this: a man who is so fundamentally changed by an act of senseless violence that he takes it upon himself to fight back against the rot and corruption in the world. he does this not through political activism, not through ridding himself of his wealth in favor of a greater good, not through community outreach, but through an individualistic fantasy of being a hero.
and you'll say: charlie, but he does do that !!! he donates his money all the time, he funds social programs, hospitals, orphanages, gets people jobs -
and i will say this: so why don't things get better?
because here's the base of it. gotham, at its core, can't get better. no matter what bruce wayne does, there will always be more crime, more villains, more death, more people for batman to beat up in back alleys. because that's what sells.
reoffending rates don't matter in gotham, prison reform doesn't matter in gotham, what actually causes crime doesn't matter in gotham because that doesn't sell books.
and so here it is; dc has unintentionally created a world where batman can't win, but can't be wrong, and where thousands of nameless, faceless, only-created-to-die civilians must be pushed into the meat grinder that is gotham, to fuel bruce wayne's angst and vindicate his constant, tireless, noble fight against the forces of evil.
and then: a new robin, who is poor and who's parents are dead or gone because of this cycle; who is happy go-lucky and hated by editors and fans for being robin, for not being dick grayson, for being poor.
and this robin is written, unintentionally or not, to be angry at the ways in which batman's (the narrative's) idea of justice is detached from its victims. bruce seems perfectly fine to allow countless unnamed women to be at risk from garzonas in his home country, yet robin is the one who is portrayed as irrational and violent.
this robin is not detached from gotham in the way bruce wayne is: this robin is a product of gotham.
(and here's the thing. you can't punch aids. you can't fight a disease with colorful fights and nifty gadgets. and how would robin dying from aids add to batman's story; it would call into question the systemic changes that haven't been made in gotham. how does a child get aids, in batman's city?)
so robin dies, and then bruce (the narrative) spends the next couple of decades blaming it on him. it is jason's fault; he was reckless, he just ran in, he thought it was all a game. if only bruce had seen what was coming, if only he could have known that jason wasn't rich enough or smart enough or liked enough to be robin.
batman gets a little more violent, a little more self destructive. he hurts people more and almost (!!) kills a couple guys. this is bad because it's self destructive and "not who he is." it is not bad because batman should not be able to just beat people up when he's angry.
and then he gets a shiny new robin - who is all the things jason "wasn't": rich and smart and rational and he doesn't put who batman is into question. batman and robin are partners, and jason is a grave and a cautionary tale, and (crucially here) never right.
the joker kills thousands and it doesn't matter because they were written to be killed.
batman beats up thousands and it doesn't matter because they were written to be criminals.
and then jason comes back, and nothing has changed. there is a batman and a (shiny! rich!) robin and the joker kills thousands. (because it sells)
and jason is angry - he has been left unavenged - his death has meant nothing, just as willis' had, just as catherine's had, just as gloria's had, just as -
thousands. ten of thousands. hundreds of thousands. written to be killed.
but one of them gets to come back.
and he is angry - not only at the joker, but at bruce (the narrative) - because why is the joker still alive (when thousands-)
here is the thing - jason todd is right. not because the death penalty is good, not because criminals deserve to die, not because of everything he says -
but because of what he calls into question. why is the joker alive?
because he sells books.
and dc has written a masterful character, through no fault of their own, because jason knows what is wrong, and he knows who is at fault - batman. (the narrative)
so the argument that bruce can't kill because he's not judge jury and executioner; the argument that jason is a cop or that jason is insane or that jason is in the wrong here; they hold no weight.
batman can't kill the joker because the joker sells comic books.
and jason can't kill the joker because the joker sells comic books.
so he will beg and plead and grovel - he will betray everything that is himself, he will forsake his family and his city and kill himself - just so that bruce (the narrative) will let the joker die.
he was condemned to death by an audience, and after he came back he has spent his whole life looking us in the eyes and screaming, asking, pleading; why is the joker still alive?
why are thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands (the number doesn't matter, see, because they're just a number. not people. not real.) why are we expendable for his story? why did i have to die just for nothing to change?
and the answer is money. and the answer is the batman can never be wrong. and the answer is shitty writing. and the answer is -
nothing jason can ever change.
which is the worst of it all. he is a victim with no power, and no one else in the world can see it. he is raging and crying and screaming at his father and his writers and you - and it doesn't matter. jason doesn't matter. and he knows it.
