👩‍💻 Juli Ovchar, a student participating in ENGin's program, had the pleasure of meeting her American volunteer in early September. Their journey began last summer when the ENGin team worked their magic to create this unique connection. ✨

Initially, Juli had reservations, wondering how they would find common ground given their significant age difference - she was 29, and her volunteer, Diane, was 75. However, as time unfolded, they discovered various shared interests that kept their conversations flowing for over a year. They discussed topics like travel 🌍, exchanging photos from their adventures 📸, their favorite movies 🎥, and books 📚, their mutual love for animals 🐹🐾 (even featuring their cats during video calls 🐈), recipes 🍳 (with Diane trying out Juli's recipes 🍽️), holidays 🌴, life events 🎉, and, of course, their heartfelt conversations about Ukraine 🇺🇦.

Juli and Diane became close friends as the months passed, maintaining regular correspondence and phone calls. Juli's desire and proficiency in learning English grew steadily.

Then, during a video call, Diane dropped an exciting bombshell - she and her husband, Don, were planning a European vacation ✈️. Juli's husband seized the opportunity and proposed that she join them for a meet-up. From that day on, their minds raced with the details of this upcoming encounter.
