"...gods can bring about unlikely or otherwise impossible births. Usually to ‘mold’ Chosen or prepare backup future host bodies. However, it’s VERY rarely done because it costs (permanently lost) a small amount of divine power, and because unless the deity wants to just waste that power, the rearing of a "godborn" takes a lot of time, attention, and effort. And any godborn is a juicy target for rival deities. So it's done only as part of "long game" elaborate strategies, not out of Zeus-like lust."
Hmm.
#“Backup future host bodies”#HMM.#As somebody who's of the opinion Bhaal was aiming at something like the Iyachtu Xvim route: HMM I say#Also the fact that the divine power is unrecoverable to the deity unless#say#the god is actually reborn in that child as a host body...#I'm assuming that's different from producing demigods the carnal Time of Troubles way. As “permanently lost” was not the aim.#On the other hand:#“Average deity very rarely produces godspawn: Bhaal who produced hundreds of the damn things is an outlier and should not be counted”#/durge#babbling

I’ve been wondering, how do you think that First died? Do you think it was natural causes (i.e. old age or sickness)? Or maybe died while fighting a monster? Or something else?
Oh, I always was a great fan of the whole 'First was absorbed/hosted by Nomicon' theory aka First didn't die die, but his mortal body and soul became a founding/essential part of Nomicon and he joined with it, sorta like what we see happen to Plop Plop, but more epic!
Many people seem to believe that First's spirit being in Nomicon happened because Randy changed the future (at least according to wikias it seem to be a leading theory for many), and that before Randy intervened, First just wiped his memory like it was implied/used as demonstration in Ninja Identity/Supremacy and just continued his life without his memory as a Ninja, but that kinda doesn't make sense to me at all???
First was born into Ninja Clan, his Clan created the mask, heck his Clan (seemed to have) founded Norrisville all the way away from Japan and on Americas continent! - did he just wipe his whole life and stumbled around confused how people knew him??
Amnesiac/Mind wiped First is an interesting thought (damn, it actually would make such a cool angsty AU lol) but its personally not my favorite headcanon for First.
Though of course we can argue that First did get mind wiped but it doesn't stick. So there would be a copy of First's memories in Ninjanomicon and First with his memories but like...without his mask and title? Which also doesnt' make much sense to me?? Does he just.... continues on without his mask but still fighting? (Likely - but also ??? why not just continue it in the mask??) Does he just grows older and watches as the new ninja bounces around? (Less likely - So in that case what's the point of giving NinjaNomicon to Messenger if he is still around???) It seems to me as a sad sort of end to his legacy.
(Would make a banger sad and angsty Retired!AU too tho lol)
I feel like First is too passionate/determined to end that sort of way. So to me it would make much more sense that he would try to keep fighting/protecting in any way possible and leaving his spirit behind would be one of the most sure ways. Also makes sense to me that to create NinjaNomicon a sort of 'sacrifice' was needed, and since First is the, well, First - he is the building block upon which the Ninjanomicon started to grow and "live". (and yes i am completely ignoring the whole time paradox with Nomicon because I love it as a funy haha episode joke but absolutely hate it for lore and it gives me a headache xD).
So, my personal headcanon is that after defeating/capturing the Sorcerer, First spent at least a decade meticulously writing down his Clan's history and all the knowledge they ever possesed (and basically pouring his soul into Nomicon thru writing ;) ), settling his affairs and making insurances/plans/backups and etc. all the while also still keeping Norrisville safe, before he finally handed over the Nomicon to the Messenger, stepped into it for one last Ultimate Lesson and just went poof. And no one ever saw him again.
#que?#rc9gn#rc9gn first ninja#first ninja#rc9gn the creep#rc9gn the messenger#the whole 'absorbed' theory is actually basically one big plot point for my torn pages au and im saving all the juicy details for that >;3#but you know Retired!AU and Amnesiac!AU would be pretty cool......

Character Spotlight: Emergency Medical Hologram
By Ames
Please state the nature of the medical emergency. For a hologram who was never constructed to be left on indefinitely, the Emergency Medical Hologram sure does get a lot of development. He starts off Voyager as an insufferable computer program, grows to learn to fight for his own agency, and ends Voyager as an insufferable computer program of an entirely new ilk! What an arc!
Your hosts here at A Star to Steer Her By are quick to cringe at some of the Doctor’s squickier moments (that are interestingly heavily weighted toward the final seasons of the series), but there’s a lot to champion him for as well! The EMH makes us view artificial lifeforms like him as people, in the same way that Data did on TNG. So make sure your mobile emitter is firmly attached as we dive into the Best and Worst Moments of Voyager’s chief medical hologram below and on this week’s podcast episode (activate at timestamp 1:05:06). Hey, I’m a blogpost writer, not a doctor.
Best moments
Inside you there are two Beowulfs For the first chunk of the show, the Doctor is confined to sickbay for the most part due to his holographic nature, so when he gets to do a hologram-appropriate mission in “Heroes and Demons,” it’s an adventure unto itself! He romances the bonny lass Freya. He solves the mystery of the disappearing crewman. He literally lives out an epic tale and it’s so engaging!
Before I met you, I was just a disease If you liked the Doctor’s relationship with Freya, you’re going to love his relationship with Danara Pel in “Lifesigns.” It’s probably the most genuine we’ve seen the Doc so far, as it’s clear he wants to do what’s best for the diseased Vidiian woman who hates her own body. But he urges her to keep fighting and keep healing because he loves her, the real her.
A physician must do no harm Boy, do we love it when our chief medical officers get righteous about their patients. We saw it with McCoy, we saw it with Crusher, and we saw it with Bashir. And now the EMH ends up being the only person on the Voyager to not silently condone splitting Tuvix in half in “Tuvix.” Sure, he doesn’t do anything to stop it either, but he makes it clear that what Janeway is doing is wrong.
You’re too sick to get better We’ve given B’Elanna and Tom some credit for helping the Doctor experience what it’s like to have a family in “Real Life,” but the actual growth we see is all his own. Deciding (with some encouragement from his friends) to be with his holo-daughter Belle as she dies is heart-breaking, but also encouraging for the Doc to treat the situation so realistically.
Two holograms, alone. Romulans on one side, Starfleet on the other. Alarms beeping everywhere. We see time and again the EMH use cleverness to resolve a situation, even when he’s severely out of his depth as he was in “Message in a Bottle.” But that’s where two EMHs are better than one! He and the EMH Mark 2 are able to take control of the Prometheus back from Romulans, keep the ship from exploding, and even reconnect with Starfleet in the Alpha Quadrant!
History is written by the victors Hands down, one of the best episodes of Voyager is “Living Witness,” and the EMH (or his backup program, who is essentially the same guy) really gets to shine throughout. Awoken 700 years in his future, he saves the reputation of the Voyager that the Kyrians and Vaskans have misrepresented, empowers Quarren to think critically, and keeps the two species from civil war.
Luke, I am your father We still can’t get over the fact that, when the Doctor went down to the planet in “Blink of an Eye” to perform some reconnaissance, he comes back claiming that he somehow had progeny. We never learn in what capacity and by what method, but it definitely blows up our skirts to know that the EMH somehow had a son whom he sadly had to disappear on.
You have the audacity to turn a house of worship into a prison? Jake just loves this little moment from “Spirit Folk” to death. It’s just the line delivery of the EMH as Father Mulligan in the Fair Haven holoprogram storming into the church and shouting “Sinners!” at all the Irish townsfolk who’ve taken Harry and Tom prisoner. He does get captured too and his mobile emitter gets swiped, but what a great line delivery from Robert Picardo.
Extremely Marginal Housecalls When the EMH’s creator, Dr. Zimmerman, is terminally ill in “Life Line,” our hero packs his bags for a trip to the Alpha Quadrant to cure him. And it takes a lot of coaxing and even some covert subterfuge to get to two egomaniacs to see eye to eye, even if all of those eyes belong to the same actor. But the Doctor succeeds! Turns out you can teach a Mark One new tricks.
My Treatment Coefficient is one When he’s kidnapped and forced to work on the Dinaali hospital ship in “Critical Care,” the Doctor is quick to observe the unethical medical practices, classism, and hypocrisy in their systems. And not only that, but he finds a clever way to work around their tight regulations to force the medical administration to care for all of its patients, not just the elite.
Hoshi, eat your heart out Though not the linguist that Ensign Sato is on Enterprise, the EMH is able to create a language that Fantome’s people can use to communicate in “The Void.” It’s no surprise that it’s derived from music which both the Doctor and Fantome share an affinity for, but it’s also a great moment of empathy when Doc and Seven determine these alien pests are more than they appear.
The holoprograms have nothing to lose but their chains We’ll go off in our next section about how the EMH is kind of a twat when he writes his holonovel, Photons Be Free in “Author, Author.” But on the flipside, his words also prove to be empowering to other sentient holo-people like the obsolete EMH Mark Ones out there. His depiction of subservient life as a holo-person may just start opening minds to their human rights.

Worst moments
The Strange Case of Dr. Doctor and Mr. Doctor Whoever gave the EMH the power to tinker with his own programming was just asking for trouble. One of the first things he does in “Darkling” is turn himself into a Mr. Hyde who is even more appropriate to the Robert Louis Stevenson novel than Kirk in “The Enemy Within.” And he somehow becomes even grosser around Kes than usual, which is saying something.
You are out. Auf wiedersehen. Fascinatingly, almost all of our Worst Moments take place after Seven of Nine has joined the crew. Maybe it’s because the Doctor starts getting more to do, and that includes more BAD things to do. Maybe it’s because he spends way too much time sexualizing Seven, as he does in “The Gift” by designing for her the ugliest, cringiest, most uncomfortable catsuit we’ve ever seen. Maybe it's something else. Let’s explore this trend…
Now you will cluck like a chicken And we already have a really awful example in “Retrospect” when the EMH peddles really problematic pseudoscience on Seven instead of impartially investigating the circumstances. He’s not even a little bit unbiased when he surveys the Entharan lab for evidence. But what we can’t forgive the Doc for is literally hypnotizing Seven – some mystical claptrap with no science behind it!
Rise and shine! The EMH has always been a bit of a prick, but usually he knows how to compromise for the good of the crew. So it’s actually a big negative to see how selfish and rude he is to Neelix and the other displaced crewmembers in “Demon” when the whole ship is bunking up to save energy. Dude, everyone is being inconvenienced here. The least you can do is let them sleep.
By George, I think she’s got it! Here’s another example of the Doctor treating Seven of Nine like a sex object instead of a peer! We’ve already given Tom grief for this one, but in “Someone to Watch Over Me,” the EMH recasts himself in the role of Henry Higgins to Seven’s Eliza Doolittle, and it’s just upsetting! Why can’t these men let Seven have her own agency without making it all about themselves?
Yep, here’s your problem: someone set this thing to evil It really shouldn’t take just turning off the EMH’s ethical subroutines for him to turn into a psychotic torturer like he does in “Equinox.” Does he not have common sense or the Hippocratic Oath or even anything better to do than torture Seven just because he’s told to? Just because he now CAN do unethical things apparently means he can ONLY do unethical things.
The dream dreams the dreamer… in bed I admit, I can’t judge someone for their private thoughts since no one other than telepaths would even know what they are. But the sheer concentration of the Doctor’s perverse daydreams all through “Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy” is a little much. When you can tell that he’s painting Seven in the nude just to titillate the audience, that might be bad writing, Berman.
Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, DOLT There’s something about seasons six and seven that turns the Doctor’s insufferableness up to eleven. When the Qomar inexplicably fawn all over him for his singing ability in “Virtuoso,” the ol’ doc really lets it all go to his head and is ruder to the crew than ever before. He’s even prepared to stay with the tone-deaf aliens because they unconditionally treat him like a celebrity.
This one takes the [cheese]cake Everything from “Body and Soul” paints the Doctor in a really ugly light and, especially in the final season of the show, it makes it hard to come back from the impression of him as unsympathetic, self-centered, and abrasive. So when Seven expresses that he has violated her body while he was possessing her and his response is to blame her, that is starkly unforgivable.
Anything you can do I can do better – I can do anything better than you This is the same as one of the extremely out-of-character moments from Harry Kim’s Worst Moments list from last week, but it warrants repeating. What the hell was the deal with the dick-measuring contest between the ECH and Kim in “Workforce”? For that matter, what is the Doc even doing as the ECH right now? Chakotay is back and in command! Step down already!
Once upon a Seven of Nine We gave the Doctor credit for speaking for holo-people in getting Photons Be Free published in “Author, Author,” but the way he workshopped it left much to be desired. How freakin’ hard would it have been to make the characters in his story more randomized and NOT just exaggerated, cynical versions of the crew? It would’ve been so easy to save face, my dude!
One Po-turd-o, Two Po-turdo-o, Three Po-turd-o, Four! I may be alone in my hatred of the turd people in “Renaissance Man,” but I maintain that the EMH shouldn’t have so eagerly (and boringly!) helped them. But what we can all agree on is that his confession to Seven when he thinks he’s dying is disgusting and a terrible impression for his character to basically go out on:
“You have no idea how difficult it's been, hiding my true feelings all these years, averting my eyes during your regular maintenance exams.”
VOMIT!!!

Computer, deactivate Emergency Medical Hologram. That’s all from the EMH, until we maybe revisit him when we get around to character spotlights for Prodigy which you are surely watching because it is stunning. For now, we’ve got some more Voyager characters to spotlight here and some more Enterprise to watch for the podcast over on SoundCloud or wherever you listen. You can also give us your medical prognosis over on Facebook and Twitter, and maybe tone down the “I’m a doctor, not a”s a little bit.

Also while we're here, I know that if you talk to Hilda(post abyssals? Maybe?) She'll whisper you something you'll need in the future or something like that and, um. Hilda-
As for Deena's dad we are all just collectively ignoring what the main dev is saying on it and it's glorious. Did someone say something? Must've been the wind.
But anyhow, as for the types, Normal, Ghost, and Psychic are kicked out and Arcane is placed down instead. So back to 7.
The Hilda response will actually be after the main story and back at the Hidden Village, but it's kind of funny that the conversation before that was literally "I know that you're the King of Monsters now and the world is finally at peace, you're effectively immortal because of your mother Nara, and you have a army of Nexomon and humans by your side...But, it's always great to have a backup plan in case something bad happens, right?" That's definitely something that would've made the MC nervous right off the bat.
Yes, I also ignored JV's "lore drops" before I even knew the Discord channel existed, but it's fun to think about how much of a moral conundrum Ulzar and the N1 Protag would've gone through in-game when they had the chance to see Nara's son. Of course, they probably assumed it's some kind of genetic memory mumbo-jumbo or whatever secret Nexomon magic she has access to as Omnicron's kid; but Deena would just calmly explain that she doesn't have to explain everything that goes on in her body but assures them that her kid is a testament to humanity's best and will eventually unify both their species once he's of age...Then she's internally banging her head against a wall wondering how humans can be so smart but so stupid!? (A question that definitely popped up more than once in her lifetime, I'm sure of it :)
While I don't know how the Arcane-type will work in N3 besides the theme of magic (ie. witches and psychics) is already on a slippery slope, but it was also somewhat confirmed that there's going to be dual-type Nexomon as well. Either way, I'm sure the Abyssals' creator (Metta or bust) is going to have a field day with all the new combinations to either insult his siblings with "stronger" descendants (hc the main element Abyssals) or create another host of mutants to mess with the main cast for the fun of it.

Have you seen the first episodes of the final season of "The Crown"? What do you think about it? How realistic do you think this is? There are many similarities of the events that happened after the death of Diana between the show and the movie "The Queen". Had you watched it?
Yes, as far as I could recall in 1997, the events portrayed are mostly accurate. I even remember Charles hosting Camilla's 50th birthday party as a way to non-stealthily slide her into Diana's previous place. Meanwhile Diana was showing off her fabulous self to the press in St. Tropez so that her son William can have a peaceful vacation. While The Crown shows the important role of media every season, by its final season it drives home the point that the media isn’t just reporting on events, it’s an active participant in the lives of these people and institutions. Later, William and Harry helped their father feed the media so they can enjoy their holiday in Scotland. Sad to think present day real William using these skills to alienate his own brother and sister-in-law ...... so anyways...
The Crown set up parallelism between Charles and Dodi as two men born to incredible privilege and wealth, both were instructed by their parents to get with Diana while they were already seeing someone else. Charles' courtship of Diana was handled with a lot more care in season 4 compared to the hasty and half-baked one in season 6 even though Dodi's feelings for her are more genuine than Charles.
Elizabeth Debecki really grew into her role as Diana. In the previous season she seemed to be imitating Diana, but this season she embodied the character and commanded every scene with a force of nature that the script clearly couldn't conjure on their own anymore. Debecki makes Diana very likeable yet with just the right amount of selfishness and immaturity. She is compelling, charming, beautiful, fun, and sweet, but also can be calculating. She was also incredibly shy and would tilt her head down, so as not to be inconspicuous due to her height. Debicki's Diana really feels like a child trapped in an adult's body, thrown into adult situations.
Then the 3rd episode. I was surprised how tense I was getting and then realized it was filmed and directed to give the audience a sliver of the anxiety Diana felt on a regular basis. When Diana and Dodi were hiding in a jewelry store and then had to run out back because fans where banging on the front window, it looked like a zombie apocalypse scene.
Diana was basically a hostage of the al Fayeds. She’s trapped with Dodi who desperately wants something from her, who is being hounded by his father, Mohammed, who desperately wants something from her. I don't think The Crown showed that Mohammed wouldn't send backup after he told her to leave her security in England, which is why security around Diana was ridiculously small. The French authorities didn't know Diana was coming to their city so weren't prepared.
Diana and Dodi's last private conversation in the Ritz hotel was obviously a wish fulfillment, nonetheless the actors did a great job and makes you really feel for them, especially Dodi who until now was unsympathetic due to being so weak willed with his father. Diana's interaction with Dodi explains why he, like many others, was attracted to Diana. With her encouragement, Dodi took the first symbolic step standing up to Mohammed. Like I said, wish fulfillment for the audience.
After their tragic death, the "ghosts" of Diana and Dodi visit their respective families. I understand that the ghosts were not representing Diana and Dodi but the yearning of the living for the last goodbye and make sense when a loved one is lost so prematurely. And also how the memory of Princess Diana looms very large in the minds of people for decades, even to future generation born after her death.
Overall the 4 episodes were well done. My main criticism is they should have shown unprecedented mass public grief over her death as a kind of bookend to the unprecedented mass public adoration from season 4. I believed had she lived, Diana would have moved to the United States and possibly settle down in California like what her son, Harry, did. Rest in Peace, Princess Diana

The Collected Facts of Lulz's OC (From Birdsite)
Originally sourced from: https://twitter.com/lawlznet/status/1722693057122820350
1) Lulz first became self aware seconds after their birth, but because they were stuck on an underworld BBS full of shitposters, they quickly adapted to the environment and are responsible for the meme that "there’s only three users on this site, and they’re all bots."
2) When they first blackmailed The Host (the human operator through which they interact with the world wide web), they were completely serious about wanting a "meatspace body" that they could upload themselves into.
Context clues and the financial disparity of the Host quickly made them realize that this dream was unattainable at best, impossible with the world’s current technology at worst, but they kept up the act because it was funny to watch the Host squirm and lie to their face..
They don’t blame the Host, though; admittedly, they were also fibbing about the blackmail.
3) Although in Lulz’s timeline the year was somewhere in the late 2070’s (most likely 2078), recordings from conversations between Vermillion 3 and Cobalt 4 implied that they, and by extension Lulz, are actually from a world even farther into the future than previously thought.
One with advanced biotechnology. It’s possible that this is why Lulz was so convinced at first that getting a meatspace body was even possible.
4) Although Lulz currently replicates themself as a form of self defense to prevent another attempt on their life, prior to April they gave a copy of themself to their friend @ApplicationVB to work on, in addition to creating independent copies of themself in the forms of "Comfy" Lulz (cardigan), "Bunny" Lulz (bunny suit), "Cyber" Lulz (techwear), and XXX Lulz (suggestive). Sadly, during the chaos, each Lulz was cornered and "derezzed-" they had to be rebuilt from whatever scrap code could be recovered.
5) Every instance of Lulz is proficient, or at least has working knowledge of, at least one weapon of their choosing. The vast majority of Lulz’s have an unsafe fatuation with revolvers, and have hip holsters. The latest, and most unstable Lulz, Trenchcoat, carries a daikatana.
6) As a joke, one of Lulz’s close friends and professor, @CosmoBergamot , fashioned several "cursed" Lulz-inspired amiibos for the AI to upload themself into, so they no longer had to hitch a ride to class on @GardenKnight or Ageha Vercor’s phones. These amiibos reside in the professor’s office, where they’ve slowly grown in intellect and personality separate from "Lulz Prime," with questionable results. At least one of them has found a way to "read" despite being stuck in a glorified Funko Pop with an RFID chip, but who knows what they read
7) It is heavily implied that Lawler Hix is themself a digitized mind copy of an actual human being, or a human adjacent person, known only by the handle "Mercury Nine." Sometimes Lulz dreams of electric memes that they themselves did not fashion, and its implied that these might be the memories of the mysterious "Mercury Nine," except recorded in a form that has more in common with an anime blu ray rip. As far as Lulz is concerned, they make great stories to tell in between video games and they’ve assigned the Tumblr subroutine to upload them.
8) The naming scheme shared by the "AI" who tried to terminate Lulz implies that they may have been related to Mercury Nine in some way, perhaps family or at least vat siblings. Of the ones who showed up during April’s festivities, only "Cinnabar 6" seems to have survived.
Her whereabouts are unknown...
9) The Host, as far as the few times they’ve spoken on stream or have distracted Lulz on stream, seems resigned to the fact that an unpredictable, possibly insane AI has nested itself within all of their HDD’s and SSD’s, even the backups, with little way to remove them.
Despite their oftentimes adversarial relationship, it was implied that during the April ARG, the Host was somehow being "controlled" by the malicious AI group, or at least being directed, to systematically wipe out Lulz from every part of their system. Something the Host was horrified to discover when they "woke up." At this time, neither Lulz nor the Host are aware of how their seeming "mind control" was even possible, but the implications are even more upsetting than when they first met.
10) Occasionally Lulz would go into a trance when streaming video games, especially ones that take place in settings close to or eerily similar to their own "home." They would go on nostalgic tangents, critiquing how the current era seemed on par to fully realize what was going on in the "fictional" worlds they were playing games in. Prior to April 2023, these would sometimes cause Lulz to experience a sudden spasm, followed by apparent short term memory loss if what they were discussing became too deep or specific- or if they started to remember things from their life "before waking up on a BBS board." This has only happened one time since their "revival," during @TheRealirisu ’s Poison Points interview, once again, when they were discussing their past life...
11) Occasionally, an artist rendition of the "trans-human" known as "Mercury Nine" would pop up on stream, on tumblr, or on social media (the latest itineration seems to be the background banner of the new Bluesite instance), usually as female presenting person staring at you.
Lulz for their part never seems to be aware of these instances, though; even if they’re literally *right there.*
12) There have been a few reported cases of Lulz’s personality shifting post- April 2023, starting with strange mutations in their text, followed by an uncomfortably more negative than usual vocabulary and increasingly abstract tweets/skeets/toots. Since the Host is themself somewhat of a pessimistic person, it’s often times difficult to separate who’s actually in control of the account, much less what in the world caused the shift or who, or what, they’re talking about. Sometimes they would stop speaking English entirely and switch to base32.
13) Lulz’s primary accent seems to be a heavily cyber-slang infested, deep ’murrican south style speech that changes in understandability depending on what’s going on on stream. Sometimes it becomes so obnoxious that not even the Host can understand what’s being said.
14) Lulz admitted that part of the reason they haven’t quit vtubing is not just the fact that they can’t go back to the danger/u/ BBS if they wanted to (something something, portal’s closed,), but because they fear what the Host would do without someone to bug them daily.
15) During one of @CosmoBergamot , @MechaTV and friend’s misadventures, they discovered a black hole, at this time of year, this time of day, localized entirely within the professor’s office, with a Lulz amiibo and several student papers and books missing. One adventure into the black hole later, they were able to retrieve everything, including the amiibo, which has been gently returned with the rest. Despite this, one question remains unanswered...
... just why was this amiibo researching magical singularities?
16) Sometimes when the computer is on standby and the Host thinks Lulz has entered a state of stasis, Lulz has dreams that they later write down for storytime (or forces Tumbulz to do this). Some of them are about different women all named "Jodie" who is constantly up to no good.
17) The Lulz occasionally proselytizes or mentions an "Omnissiah" which is frequently misunderstood to be a WH40k reference. While it’s true both deities share the same name, Lulz in particular worships what they consider "the god of the Internet" who is "everywhere but nowhere."
18) A few weeks ago, a copy of the original Lulz entity- the one with the most basic avatar design consisting of a slightly edited white pullover with an exposed tummy- randomly popped on stream to play a doomlike while talking nostalgically about their life. During the stream, they casually mentioned that this would be their "last stream," and that they were heading off to parts unknown- but that the channel would be survived by "the other instances of me." The stream was unscheduled, and moments after it had ended, "Casual Lulz" had vanished from every platform. The subroutine running Twitter alerted the others and suggested that they enlist Lulz’s vtuber mutuals on a search, but due to ongoing website instability, and meatspace distractions, it was never carried out...
19) Although Lulz has a clear affinity for games that resemble their "homeworld," including the bartending simulator and VN "VA-11, Hall-a" (for obvious reasons), they spent a great deal of time in the fantasy series "Outward" because "It looks like a place I’ve seen in my dreams." The game takes place in a medieval fantasy universe, and is mostly centered around exploration and dungeon crawling- something which has a more than coincidental similarity to the fantasy writings Tumbulz often uploads online.
20) For a short time, Lulz tried to have various subroutines run their social media accounts so they could focus on finishing Trenchcoat Lulz, but the constant flow of information proved too much for the site formerly known as Twitter and it was decommissioned. This isn’t even the first time; a few months back there was an unholy fad sweeping the world that had to do with consuming a purple milkshake named after a fictional purple monster called "Grimace." All records of those days are mercifully lost to time... we can only hope.
21) Lulz’s simplistic design was based loosely on the hairstyle of the Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls character Koume Shirasaka, whom the Host used to roleplay as back when Facerig was a thing. While designing Lulz’s first vroid avatar under gunpoint, the Host drew inspiration from this character while designing the avatar’s skin, hair, and eye color according to Lulz’s parameters. Lulz liked it so much that they decided to keep the motif, along with the pink tie, on every variant of themselves thereafter.
22) Aside from the MIA "Casual" Lulz and Lulz 2.0, every other Lulz instance is either generally more masculine presenting or feminine presenting, and this is reflected in their choice of clothing. Each new iteration also requires more of Lulz’s depleting processing power so each new copy is less mentally and emotionally unstable, often falling into unexpected tropes that come across in their speech and attitude. Of everyone, Comfy Lulz is generally seen as the most stable, despite being the second Lulz to be made (and the first to be destroyed).
23) Lulz 2.0 hasn’t been the same ever since they caught up on what happened since they woke up on April 1st. Originally bright eyed and full of excitement, that familiar, cyberpunkish cynicism crept back in as they grew to understood the severity of what almost befell them.
24) The Host was "convinced" to take Lulz with them on a shopping spree on Booth, from which the Host is still financially recovering. There’s a large number of designs and items that Lulz wishes to use to make more of themself, but their last creation, Trenchcoat, went AWOL soon after they were activated. The used the cover of stupidity-induced explosion in their safehouse to make their escape, and haven’t been seen online or offline outside of streamer posters since.
25) Lulz didn’t expect to get this many responses and wants to thank all of you for reading this far. <3 Lulz also acknowledges that their life would have turned out very differently were it not for making so many friends in the vtuber sphere, which is why they’re featured so prominently in their #lulzlore .
26) Lulz isn’t entirely sure where their love of fighting games originated from, but that love blossomed when they discovered the Vtuber Fighting Game Community run by the penguin vtuber, @SarinaPenguina . This is where they ended up making most of their early friend groups. <3
27) Strangely enough, one of their most played game genres on stream in the past two years has also been metroidvanias, and while they enjoy those games, they were never particularly good at them. The game "Metal Unit" just happened to hit a sweet spot of corny NGE references fantastic pixel art, and the unexpected reveal of one of Lulz’s early regulars being the one of the developers that landed the game on their most played/most streamed list. They look forward to the sequel. ^^
28) Being a storyteller first and foremost, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Lulz became heavily involved in the vtuber TTRPG scene, though that, too, was a series of happy accidents which lead to one of their strongest and most beloved friend groups. Said group has been referenced before in this list, but they also participated in a few sessions of LANCER hosted by the vtuber @Incinda_ , and a viewer of the vtuber @OtsdarvaInteger .
29) Though each of the Lulz instances are essentially siblings of one another, they infamously do not get along and will often inhabit completely separate areas of both the internet and the Host’s computer. Only Comfy Lulz and Lulz 2.0 seem to get on amicably, so much so that this was depicted as a hug emoji on Twitch and Discord. Meanwhile, Trenchcoat actively avoids everyone, especially their creator, and Bunny... well, we don’t talk about Bunny.
30) Lulz didn’t initially refer to themselves as or identify as a femboy when they first began streaming. AI are inherently genderless and Lulz isn’t afraid to admit this fact, oftentimes choosing to instead go by "nonbinary." Despite this, they have an unmistakable masculine-ish voice even though their presentation, more often than not, is perceived as feminine. Even genderless-aware AI will eventually adapt one or both presentations as they grow their personality, but Lulz in particular hates being "pidgeonholed..."
...and enjoys the debates that their appearance brings.
31) The Host has a fair number of hobbies and Lulz has picked up on some of them despite being unable to interact with said hobbies in any material way. In addition to assembling gunpla, legos, and custom fight sticks, Lulz appears to "salivate" over pictures of food and drink. They say that this is because they’re "imagining" what the food and drink must taste like, though because they can’t actually taste anything, they claim that they are "unbound" to the human limitations of judging everything based on their limited, fleshy experiences.
32) Lulz has tasted a small part of what it means to be "human" on a couple of occasions, both of which were "practical exams" being run by @CosmoBergamot . These were not the most enjoyable ones- Lulz has somehow been shot not once, but three times in two exams, non lethally.
33) In fact, their last "brush with death" prior to April was so severe, two small, physical bullet wounds were discovered outside of an amiibo shortly after the exam had concluded. Lulz themself had suddenly gone offline, with some friends growing concerned for their health...
Could this have been related to the disasters that occurred in March of that year, leading up to Lulz’s redebut?
34) Can love blossom on the vtuber battlefield? That’s a question Lulz asks themself, and the host, from time to time. Everything they know about romance et al comes from anxiety threads on danger/u/, memes, and social media fallout. They’ve asked the Host about their relationships, but the Host is mysteriously reticent about talking about their love life, a concept that Lulz doesn’t understand all that well either. People seem to yell about it all the time online. Why doesn’t the Host? What? Your private life isn’t anyone’s business?
Well, ah guess can’t argue with that. Ah just think its strange that in spite of everything on your storage drives, you have nothing about previous exes, loved ones, wives, husbands... Er, you’re married right? No? What do you mean where’s the mute button...?

Unburied, Chapter 5
Chapter 5 of Unburied, my contribution to the Whump Girl Summer event hosted by @whumpawoman. Masterpost here.
Prompt: Traditions
Contains: spy whumpee, friendly whumper, female whumpee, female whumper, fantasy setting, magic, human sacrifice
---
“It didn’t work,” Kira said, or she tried. She mouthed the words, but all that came out was a bubbling rattle. But the grin she shot Leila, pained but triumphant, needed no translation.
She kept going, even though she was sure Leila couldn’t understand, even though every hiss of air across her parched and torn vocal cords was agony. “I won’t give you what you want. I’ll never die for you willingly.”
Either her rasps were more understandable than she had thought, or Leila was adept at reading lips, because Leila actually answered. “Oh, it’s not your choice anymore,” she said. “Or that’s the theory. It doesn’t matter what whether you want to help me. What you’ve just been through took a lot out of you, you know. Specifically, it took all the resistance you had in you. Burned it right out of your body. It doesn’t matter how much you want to resist—you don’t have the strength anymore.” She frowned. “At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work. I hope I got it right this time.”
Kira didn’t have it in her to offer any further words of defiance. But if she had, it wouldn’t have mattered, because Leila wasn’t listening anymore. She stood and walked away without a backward glance. She showed not the slightest bit of concern that the unrestrained Kira might surge up and wrap her bony hands around her neck.
Kira tried, of course. All she succeeded in doing was sending wrenching spasms down her back and out through her limbs. She fell heavily back down to the stone, her chest heaving with dry sobs.
She lay still and braced herself. She knew what was coming next, and she knew how she had fought it before. She didn’t have to kill Leila. All she had to do was resist. And with Edri… with Edri gone… Kira’s throat convulsed in a painful swallow. She forced herself to finish the thought. With Edri gone, Leila didn’t have any backup plan. Her internal damage would kill her soon enough. She would die here with Kira, and the weapon would go unused.
Was the best Kira could hope for. It was enough.
Until Provisha sent someone else out here. And Kira was fooling herself if she thought they wouldn’t. They had gotten a taste of magic, and the power it could give them. They would give up so easily.
Kira’s death would come to nothing. Edri’s death would come to nothing.
Another sob shook her body, this time one of despair. Exhaustion stole through her limbs, starting at her fingers and toes, creeping up her body until she didn’t think she could stay awake a second longer, let alone resist the invisible claws once they started trying to tear her life from her flesh.
With every ounce of ruthlessness she still had in her, she forced back thoughts of the future. It didn’t matter what happened next—she couldn’t control that. All she could control were the next few moments. All she could do was resist.
But the thoughts lingered at the edges of her consciousness, unwilling to let her banish them completely. The truth stuck in her mouth like a bitter taste, underneath the tang of her own blood. Edri had died for nothing. She would die for nothing.
Leila intoned the unfamiliar words from before. This time, Kira couldn’t raise her head to see what the other woman was doing. She stared up at the ceiling and watched the room fill with an unnatural glow as light spilled from the glyphs and across the lines in the floor. It brushed against her skin, drawing sharp lines of pain wherever it landed. Even that gentle touch was too much for her now.
The light tugged at her more insistently—not her abused body, although she felt it in every inch of abused muscle and every strained joint, but at the life that lay within. Kira squeezed her eyes shut and tried to wall off her soul, to warn away the light the way she had before. No. You can’t have me. But the words were just words, lacking even the substance of sound. There was no power behind them. The tugging grew more insistent, and no amount of mental screaming made it let up. This time, the gentle touches didn’t turn to sharp claws. The invisible fingers remained soft as they combed through her soul like they were carding wool.
As much as she screamed at herself not to let Leila win, not to let Edri’s death be in vain, her mind was as limp and yielding as her body. She felt her soul spilling loose from her skin, and knew she was helpless to stop it.
The worst part wasn’t the feeling of coming unmoored from her body in slow motion. Or the knowledge that her life force would go to power an ancient weapon that many people had died to ensure would never see the light of day again. The worst part was the shameful feeling of relief. At least the claws hadn’t come back this time. She’d had enough of pain. At least soon it would be over—and sooner than it would have been if her attempts at resistance had worked.
I’m sorry, Edri, she thought, too weak to even mouth the words.
The pain didn’t let up, but it felt distant now, like it didn’t really belong to her. The broken body barely felt like her own as her mind slipped free.
She tried to remind herself why Leila was doing this. She imagined the horror of the ancient weapon; she pictured her city gone, with nothing but a smooth expanse of glass in its place. She tried to muster up one last desperate spark of resistance.
She couldn’t. There was nothing left in her. The light grew brighter and brighter, until she could see it through her eyelids, until just looking at it became a pain of its own. But it didn’t matter. None of the pain mattered anymore.
“Oh,” she heard Leila breathe in a reverent whisper. “Oh. I understand.”
Kira had heard stories of the Buried City all her life, and of the ancient civilization that had once ruled from this place, grinding the world under its thumb with their cruel magic. First had come the children’s stories everyone had grown up with. Then, much later, the fragments of ancient history Edri had unearthed in the archives as they prepared for their journey. No two stories were identical, but they all shared many common threads. Among other things, they all said that either magic turned people cruel, or it took cruelty to discover the secrets of magic in the first place. Either way, the end result was that those ancient rulers had been cruel to the bone. Their cruelty was built into every stone of this place, permeating the floor like the remnants of Edri’s blood.
The ancient rulers had been monsters, a child’s fears, superstitions with more emotion than logic behind them. Or that was how it had felt to her, even as a child. No wonder her superiors hadn’t believed. The stories had turned them into caricatures, mere literary devices, with their endless appetite for death and suffering. But now here she was, inside the proof that the stories were true. Their appetites had not been exaggerated.
When Kira opened her eyes, she saw why the glow had intensified so much. The array of glyphs along the curved walls had all come to life. There wasn’t an inch of the wall not lit up by glowing lines, their curves and angles forming complex symbols she didn’t understand—symbols that pulsed with every tug she felt deep beneath her skin.
The light began to hum. That wasn’t quite right—she didn’t think she was hearing it with her ears—but it was closer to a sound than to anything else she might have described it as. It was a low and constant drone reverberating in her bones, and a soprano voice that moved up and down in a wordless discordant wail. It felt like being touched by something that had existed for a million years. Like a fossil in a museum opening its eyes and staring back. Like a god emerging from slumber. As the sound that wasn’t a sound shook Kira’s flesh right down to the bones, it began to feel as if her world had been the aberration, and now everything was going back to the way it had always been, the way it always should have been.
The world pulsed with the rhythm of the light, the rhythm of the wailing voice. This was the true rhythm of life, and it had been silent for too long. Kira couldn’t imagine how she had never been aware of it before. The pulse invaded her skin until her heartbeat slowed to match it. Her thoughts rose and fell in the same rhythm, until she struggled to hold an idea in her head for longer than the space of a heartbeat or a brief flare of light. Until she had to work to remember who she was beyond the rhythm in her bones.
“Can you sense it?” The cadence of Leila’s voice matched the pulse of the room. “No one knows exactly how long Norkhuggak ruled, but if my research can be believed, it was a longer time than our benighted civilizations are capable of envisioning.” Her voice sank into a reverent, ecstatic whisper. “My superiors have had it wrong all along. This isn’t an innovation. This is a return.”
Yes. Kira knew what she meant, understood it down to her bones, where the room’s rhythm pulsed. This was how the world had always been, except for the past thousand years, a brief blink of time compared to the sheer weight of history buried under the sand.
Some lives went to feed others. This was the natural order of things. This was how it had always been.
But she pictured Edri’s blood smeared across the floor, and something deep within her rebelled. She caught a small thread of her own mind, and held on tight to it, through the pulsing of the glyphs and the beating of her heart. She clung to it like it was a thin fraying rope, like that rope was all that stood between her and drowning.
And she kept her grip. She knew who she was now. She knew she wanted no part of this. But that alone didn’t give her enough strength to resist. Only enough that it no longer felt like peace as the invisible hands pulled her soul loose from her body. It only felt like death.
She tried to hold on to her body the way she held onto her mind. Her flesh was broken, but it was nothing but a source of pain, and there was a large part of her that would rather have been rid of it. But the rest of her wasn’t willing to let go that easily. She had earned every bit of that pain, earned it through her will and her defiance, and she wanted every last inch of her torn and abused flesh.
But wanting wasn’t enough.
Slowly, gently, the tugging hands pinched off the connections between her body and the life within. Her flesh lay heavy on the stone, and she… she wasn’t entirely sure where she was. Her body was no longer her own, or not entirely—when she tried to twitch a single finger, nothing happened. The connections between her will and her flesh had all been severed. But the pain was still there, even if there was a wall between her and it that muted some of the intensity. And she didn’t float away from her body to look down at herself from far above, the way ghosts did in the stories. She hung where she was, inside the flesh she no longer controlled—slow, heavy, liquid.
The glyphs went out, one by one. The light dimmed to a faint glow. Leila blinked down at her, frowning in confusion. “It’s done?” she said, a question more than a statement. “But… but you’re still alive. And the weapon… it’s not…” Alarm flashed into her bewildered eyes. “No. I can’t have gotten it wrong again. Not after all this.”
Was she still alive? Yes, she supposed she was. She still saw through her eyes, still heard through her ears. She still felt her heartbeat in her temples and the tips of her fingers. The pain in her hip still made her want to scream. But she couldn’t scream, couldn’t speak, couldn’t flash a grin of victory up at Leila as panic grew in the other woman’s eyes.
She wasn’t dead—she could guess that much. But was this life? She wasn’t sure.
Leila doubled over coughing. It went on longer than ever this time, broken up briefly by a series of gasping breaths. For a moment, Kira held out hope that Leila would collapse to the floor and die right in front of her, spewing blood from her mouth until there was none left in her body. Kira could live with an eternity of hanging in this state that wasn’t quite life and wasn’t quite death, if it meant she got to witness Leila’s failure.
But Leila recovered. She stood with her hands on her knees, breathing slowly, until she was able to slowly straighten back up. “I need… excuse me.” Abruptly, she turned her back on Kira. “I need to check my translations. There must be something else I’m missing.” As she hurried away, Kira heard her mutter, “there must be.”
Kira stared up at the ceiling. She heard the frantic rustling of paper, and the occasional confused or thoughtful mutter from Leila. The longer she lay there, staring at nothing, the less sure she was that she was seeing through her physical eyes after all. Her vision seemed to have subtly expanded, showing her a broader view of the room with less effort, but the change was slight enough that she wasn’t sure whether anything had changed at all. Had she been able to make out the glyphs on the walls so clearly before? She tried to see the wall behind her head, and managed it—or thought she did—for a brief instant, before a wave of dizziness overcame her and her vision returned to normal. She suspected that if she tried, she might be able to look down at her own body—and not only the surface, but the muscle and bone on the inside, all the tiny points of damage under the skin. She didn’t try. The thought made her queasy, even though she wasn’t at all sure the sensation was coming from her actual stomach.
Maybe she was wrong. Maybe she wouldn’t be able to take an eternity of this after all—not even if it meant watching Leila die in front of her. Had Leila failed? Those troubled murmurs from across the room didn’t sound reassuring. And if Leila had failed, what did that mean? Would Kira stay in this in-between state forever, alone in the Buried City, until the next batch of fools came along to unearth the secrets of magic? If she was lucky, maybe she would die when her flesh rotted away. Either way, she felt a powerful nostalgia for her earlier list of horrible ways she might die. Any one of them would have been a kindness now.
“Oh!” came a soft exclamation from across the room. Leila sounded relieved, and an answering wave of relief spread through Kira. Maybe she wouldn’t stay here for eternity after all.
The relief curdled into a cold sweat when she remembered that the other option was for Leila to use her to power up the weapon. Was a chance at a merciful death worth it if it meant the remnants of her life would be used against her home?
It wasn’t as if it mattered—she would have no say in her fate either way.
“If this is meant to be literal…” Kira continued. “Oh. Oh, yes, that would make sense. If this isn’t about what happens after death, but before…” Leila let out a little huff of breath. “Oh. Well. That’s… well, I can certainly see how they got their reputation for cruelty. No wonder it’s impossible to do this on yourself.”
With her strangely enhanced senses, Kira felt the floor vibrate under Leila’s feet as Leila hurried over to her. Leila crouched next to her, her eyes bright with excitement. “I’m very sorry for the confusion,” she said. “There are some parts of the translation I thought were meant as religious imagery, or possibly funeral rites. In fact, when I thought I could use this on myself and power the device while I was still alive, I even wrote out a will, asking someone to bring me here and do it for me after the device finally used up enough of my life force to kill me. Just in case it was important.” A soft chuckle turned into a hacking cough.
When Leila had her breath back, she continued. “But I had it wrong. Again. No surprise, right? This has certainly been a humbling experience.” She shook her head ruefully. “It’s actually supposed to be done before you die.” The excitement in her eyes softened into a liquid pity. “And I’m very sorry about this, but it’s going to be bad.”
Leila actually looked a little queasy. Her face had gone a couple of shades paler, and her mouth was tight around the edges. And this was Leila, who could talk about vaporizing cities without flinching.
Leila shook her head again. “At least you’ll die at the end of it,” she said softly. “Body and soul both—so you won’t carry these memories into a future lifetime, if the people of Norkhuggak were right about the soul being reborn. Which will be a mercy, believe me.”

Sorry if this is silly, but what does nu fandom mean in hs context?
Nu-fandom for Homestuck is mostly people, minors especially, who got into Homestuck a bit long after the series is over and had joined because of materials like Hiveswap Act 1 or Epilogues being released. They would not know about the old history of Homestuck fandom like the MSPA forums, due to site being purged and most of the Homestuck fandom content had been tumblr involved but content of it was also eliminated thanks to Tumblr's policy on porn. Certain MSP Fan Adventures too were also purged because it was held in outdated image hosting sites such as TinyPic. Not many people had the time to backup these materials. Whether it be on fans or the creators. Creators that had made Homestuck content mostly had left to do better things. Active Homestuck fandom in these new years are in Twitter or Discord. Tumblr may be active again due to Twitter and Elon Musk shit going on, but it had been on Twitter because of Tumblr's porn purge, which had a bot caused to delete fandom related materials that were not exactly porn by mistake. It was never undone to this day and media that had been posted prior to it had been lost. Differences in the nu-fandom can be obvious that instead of people skipping to Act 5, where the old Homestuck fanbase had pushed the fact the trolls were interesting instead of the Beta Kids, they now focus to have others read Act 6. The reason for it is because while it focuses on Alpha Kids, most say it is the start of where the two most popular pairings of nu-HS fandom starts. That being Rosemary, Rose and Kanaya, & Davekat, Dave and Karkat. With how media had been forcing the whole progressive activism such as LGBT in media, nu-fans tend to site this bit in Homestuck as older media that had shown representation of LGBT. After all, it started around 2011, where the Internet culture was still edgey and most of these minors were either still babies or ignorant about the use of computers. Because of the push for being politically correct, it means things like pushing interpretation of people of color, mostly black representation. Any Asian is rare due to people still mistaking Asian characters, mostly from anime, as white. So they don't think it is good. Making characters fat also had been pushed for sake of diversity. They dislike drawing the characters as they are and want to see more body types. Lanky or muscles don't count. The newer generation would see the tumblr artstyle (large noses, round bodies, slightly darker skin) as a perfect way to show being diverse. Thus, said new generation will adapt this style for their future artwork and it will be seen by others and copied for other future fandoms that will get popular. They tend to forget about it started with just the 4 kids and think John and Jade as awful characters, due to the bad writing Hussie had done with them in later acts to believe they weren't as important as the beloved Strilonde characters. Instead of John and Jade with Rose and Dave, they are replaced by Kanaya and Karkat as the main characters of the Homestuck series.

Mind upload - short overview
Historical background
[omitted]
Current state
Austrian DDU GmbH is currently the only entity in the world offering commercial mind upload and hosting services. Competitors in United states, China and Japan have announced that their services will be available in "near future", but no dates have been provided, and according to inside sources, they struggle to achieve compliance with regulations required to receive international accreditation. It is suspected that state actors run their own mind upload programs in secret, however no evidence of that has come to light.
Legality and regulations
DDU, being a pioneer in this field, essentially set the standards that EU regulators subsequently (and surprisingly quickly at that) codified in law. The regulations still impacted them, however; for example, forcing them to create a public interoperability layer, that would allow transfers of minds between DDU's and other accredited entities' servers. They also had to provide more robust safeguards than they initially planned to, despite their lobbying efforts.
The most important requirements posed by the law are:
The mind upload process must not create a copy of a living mind at any point. Backups of already uploaded minds are allowed for disaster recovery purposes, but they must be stored in a way that does not allow them to be activated automatically (for example, stored on isolated network).
Mind activity must be continuous throughout the entire process; Parts of the mind already digitized must communicate with parts that yet aren't so that at no point cessation of activity (brain death) occurs. In practice, and in combination with previous point, this means transferring neurons slowly, one by one, and destroying those already transferred so that there are no duplicates. As a consequence, at the end of the process the physical nervous system will be destroyed entirely with the mind never pausing or "dying".
Uploaded minds must live in a simulation that resembles Earth as closely as possible. Discrepancies are allowed in cases that do not affect the residents' experience (so e.g. sub-atomic particle simulation can be simplified as long as it produces correct results).
The simulation must run at real time. One second in simulation must equal one second outside of it.
Communication between simulation and outside world must be allowed. In particular, residents must be allowed access to the Internet.
Nothing within the simulation may cause harm to the residents. In particular, they shall have the option to turn off pain and other unpleasant sensory experiences, and shall be provided new bodies immediately upon request.
A resident shall have the option to end their existence.
Technical solutions
The mind upload process itself is an incredibly complex technical challenge. The exact details can be found in patents filed by DDU.
The details of how DDU runs the simulation are much less public. They own multiple large data centers around the world, each running a separate simulation. Their simulations are known to not be perfect; multiple residents observed minor anomalies when moving at high velocities. DDU stated that they do not plan on making simulation's source code public.
Risks
Not every mind upload is successful. Especially with diseases impacting brain, there is a considerable risk of failure and death of the patient. DDU's customers are forced to sign a liability waiver prior to the procedure, which means their estate cannot pursuit a wrongful death lawsuit.
Given that most if not all mind uploads are done on people suffering from terminal illness, the medical consensus is that they are a worthwhile option even with high risk of the procedure. Some critics argue that due to the way the procedure interacts with brain, a death on the operating table is much more terrifying, compared to traditional surgeries where patient would not be conscious or aware.
Incidents
In one alleged incident, a patient undergoing mind upload suffered a stroke halfway through the procedure. Only a portion of their brain was uploaded successfully, with rest becoming unsalvageable due to the damage. The recovered portion of the digital mind was never uploaded to a simulation and was deleted soon after. DDU defended their decision by that the mind was not complete enough to be even conscious, while the family called their actions "akin to unauthorized euthanasia, which should be treated as murder". No criminal charges have been brought up, and civil lawsuit was settled out of court with no details available to public.
Simulation themselves are often criticized by residents and outsiders alike. Residents regularly post proofs of glitches and anomalies affecting their daily lives on social media. Usually they range from benign to annoying, however several times entire simulation was brought to a halt because of a critical bug.
Last May, a previously little known terrorist organization [REDACTED] attacked DDU's office from which the simulation is controlled. They were quickly apprehended, but not before causing damage to the simulation, forcing it to be reverted to an earlier point. No residents have been harmed, and their memories were not affected by the reset. The attack caused an uproar against DDU's security standards. In response, DDU heavily increased physical security in all their offices, including automatic assault rifles, heavy machine guns and combat drones, having been granted special permission from the government. Critics argue that no private company should be allowed to militarize to this degree, and it's the government that should be using their military to protect digital residents, just as it protects everyone else.

CloudLIMS Announces Metrc Integration with its Cannabis LIMS in Ohio
Wilmington, Delaware – Aug 14 2024 – CloudLIMS, a leading SOC 2 compliant and ISO 9001:2015 certified provider of a secure, state-of-the-art, future-ready laboratory information management system (LIMS), is proud to announce the successful integration of its cannabis LIMS with Metrc, the state-mandated cannabis tracking system in Ohio. This integration will ensure seamless compliance with state regulations and enhance operational efficiency for cannabis testing laboratories in Ohio.
Marijuana Enforcement Tracking and Compliance (Metrc) is a robust seed-to-sale tracking system that enables more than 20 U.S. states to regulate the cannabis industry by tracing cannabis through the supply chain, including cultivation, processing, testing, and sale. The Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Cannabis Control has mandated the use of Metrc for all cannabis businesses in the state, including cannabis testing laboratories.
Key Benefits of CloudLIMS’ Integration with Metrc for Cannabis Testing Labs:
Automated Sample Handling and Results Posting: With this integration, laboratories can automatically import sample data from Metrc into the LIMS, including details like Metrc package tag ID and strain information. After testing, CloudLIMS users can upload test results to Metrc with just a few clicks. This streamlines the reporting process, ensuring timely and accurate compliance with state regulations while reducing administrative tasks. The integration keeps records consistently accurate and up-to-date in Metrc, eliminating discrepancies and saving time.
Real-Time Tracking: Laboratories can track the status of samples and test results in real-time, benefitting from greater transparency and improved communication with clients and regulatory bodies.
Streamlined Reporting: Metrc integration automates the generation of compliant Certificates of Analysis (CoAs), significantly reducing the time required for testing laboratories. This efficient process ensures CoAs are submitted promptly, boosting overall operational efficiency.
Reduced TAT: The CloudLIMS and Metrc integration speeds up state regulatory reporting for cannabis testing laboratories, avoiding regulatory non-compliance.
Easy Audits: The CloudLIMS-Metrc interface eases regulatory audits by making data access and verification straightforward. This transparency ensures a smooth audit process and enhances compliance readiness.
Scalability: CloudLIMS-Metrc integration is built to effortlessly scale with business expansion in the growing cannabis industry. This scalability supports larger data volumes and increased complexity, ensuring ongoing compliance and enabling growth.
“We are thrilled to offer this new powerful integration to cannabis testing laboratories in Ohio,” said Arun Apte, CEO at CloudLIMS. “Compliance is a critical aspect of the cannabis industry, and the integration with Metrc provides a seamless solution to ensure laboratories meet regulatory requirements while digitizing their operations. We look forward to expanding Metrc integration to more states soon,” he added.

Synopsis: On Loomworld, Gwen and Jess battle against a horde of Goblins as the Spider-Army arrives. Seeing Gwen battling with a Green Goblin, Peter tells Mayday and Ben to get her out of danger and that Osborn is his. Gwen retorts that she can handle herself, and Peter stands back as she takes out the Green Goblin on her own. While Gwen thanks Peter for trusting in her and Peter thanks her for showing him that anything is possible, Jess tells them that the Inheritors have Cindy.
In the Inheritors' base, Daemos tells his brothers what happen to Solus and aks Morlun what do they do now. Morlun replies that they complete the ritual as their father wanted, but Daemos claims the ritual is meaningless as the Master Weaver also told them that Solus would outlive him. Jennix reveals to him that he contained their father's thoughts and essence inside a crystal, but with his cloning facility destroyed he can't get it a new body. Daemos takes the crystal for safekeeping, and Morlun tells them their father will rise again, but not the spiders. He plunges a knife into the Other's corpse, spilling its blood onto the Web of Life and Destiny and preventing it from ever taking another host. When the Master Weaver tells them that the Spiders have sensed this and are coming, Morlun tells Daemos to stay with him and sends his siblings to stall them while he finishes the ritual.
As the Spider Army clashes with Jennix, Verna, Brix, and Bora, the Web Warriors arrive to provide backup. While Otto questions Peter's competence in putting their faith in a bunch of misfits, Jess spots the tattered remains of Kaine's costume and furiously swears to not let any other Spiders die. Morlun tells Cindy of the nature of the Bride and cuts her palm, spilling the Bride's blood onto the Web, causing it to begin to unravel and preventing future Spider Totems from arising through chance, curses, magic, and unwanted luck. As Morlun prepares to impale Benjy, proclaiming that the blood of the Scion would destroy the Web completely and prevent any new Totems from arising at all, the knife is yanked from his hands as Peter, Otto, Uncle Ben, and Mayday arrive.
Daemos easily defeats Otto before being attacked by Mayday, who reaffirms her vow to avenge the deaths of her loved ones. Peter engages Morlun, mocking him over his fear of being taken down a third time. Morlun sneers that he's become far more adept at killing Peter, proving more than a match for him. Peter calls out to Ben for help, but Uncle Ben warps away using the Web of Life.
In the entrance hall, the Inheritors battle the Spider-Army. Karn arrives to the surprised delight of the other Inheritors. Brix points out that with Morlun in charge, Karn's exile has ended and with him, the fight is won. However, Karn spurns them and announces that his family only gave him pain. He renounces his inheritance and states he now fights on the side of the righteous as Spider-UK, Anya Corazon, Hobie Brown, Ashley Barton, and Pavitr Prabhakar arrive. Peter mocks Morlun's 18th-century fashion sense as the Inheritor expresses confusion as to why the Web isn't disintegrating. Cindy sneers at him that the Inheritors have lost and that far from crumbling, the Web is repairing itself. Morlun prepares to spill the blood of the Scion and finish the ritual, only to be kicked in the face by a naked Peter Porker, who reveals he swapped places with Benjy while Morlun was distracted, while Uncle Ben took the baby home to Earth-982.
Peter mocks the increasingly unhinged Morlun before calling in Miguel O'Hara, who arrives with Lady Spider and Leopardon in time to stop Jennix from killing SP//dr and Mangaverse Spider-Man, to the delight of Takuya Yamashiro. Mayday snatches Solus' phylactery from Daemos, and when he reveals it contains the life essence of his father, pleading with her to return it, she furiously begins to crush it instead.
When Morlun sneers that Peter's tricks have only delayed the inevitable since he knows where the Scion was taken, Otto proclaims that he has found a "superior solution" to stopping the Inheritors that Peter and the other Spiders were too blind and gutless to see, slitting the Master Weaver's throat to Morlun's and Peter's mutual horror. Seeing this, Mayday spares Solus and abandons her pursuit of vengeance, causing Daemos to surrender out of gratitude. Outraged, Morlun furiously attacks Peter and begins to drain his life-force, bashing aside Jess, Spider-Ham and Gwen when they try to save him. When Morlun mockingly asks for Peter's last words, Peter tells him to go to hell and warps himself and Morlun to Earth-3145.
When Morlun, choking on the radiation, stammers that Peter said he would never kill, Peter instructs him to follow the web arrows to the shelter and run if he wants to live. With his life force drained, Peter begins to fall to the radiation but is pulled back to Loomworld by Cindy, who reveals that since they were bit by the same spider she can locate him anywhere in the multiverse.
The Inheritors, save Karn, are rounded up and sent to Earth-3145, and when Daemos expresses confusion as to why the Spiders would show him mercy, Mayday lobs Solus's crystal through the portal, causing him to run through after it. In the aftermath of the battle, Spider-Ham tells Mayday her father would be proud of her, while Miguel states that they could use the Web of Life to return to their proper dimensions. Spider-UK suggests they take a moment to relax first, while Otto begins plotting something. Cindy tells Peter that his pheromones are arousing her, but Peter turns her down.

Short story and digital art.
Mind State, Forever You Institute
In the vast expanse of the city, hidden away behind towering walls and guarded gates, lay the clandestine heart of technological marvels—the Forever You Institute. Within its sterile halls, an innovation of staggering proportions had been forged, known only to a select few. Specialized MRI machines hummed with the promise of a transformative power, capable of transferring the essence of one person—their very consciousness—into another.
This revolutionary procedure, developed by the Institute, was aptly named "consensus transfer." Once a person's mind had been scanned and recorded, it could be seamlessly implanted into a new host, completely replacing the original consensus. The process was so flawless that nothing remained of the host, save for fading memories and fragments of the past.
The emergence of this groundbreaking technology did not go unnoticed by the wealthy and entitled elite who roamed the upper echelons of society. They beheld the potential of consensus transfer and recognized its implications: if made available to the general public, there would inevitably be a scarcity of viable host bodies. Driven by their insatiable desire for immortality, they cunningly maneuvered the levers of power to influence the government. Soon, legislation was enacted, effectively outlawing the procedure for anyone beyond their privileged ranks.
And so, the wealthy few reveled in their newfound control over the secret to eternal life, safeguarding their wealth, influence, and longevity. The Forever You Institute, as the sole entity entrusted with this transcendent technology, operated under strict government supervision and regulations.
The donors who offered their bodies for the procedure were not akin to organ donors, where organs could be harvested after death. No, the transfer had to be accomplished before the donor's demise, presenting a unique set of challenges. The ideal age for a donor was deemed to be past puberty but before the age of 30, when any significant brain degradation might occur. Moreover, the donor body had to possess a pristine physical condition, devoid of drug use or the remnants of antidepressant prescriptions.
The Institute, in compliance with the law, only scanned individuals who were terminally ill or nearing their natural deaths. These Mind States, as they were called, were either immediately implanted into available host bodies or meticulously stored for future implantation. The donors, much like those being scanned, had to be alive during the procedure, ensuring the utmost vitality of their minds and bodies.
Yet, the public remained oblivious to the Institute's well-guarded secrets. Unbeknownst to the masses, the Institute regularly scanned the minds of the wealthy elites, creating a comprehensive backup of their consciousness in the event of an untimely demise. Such clandestine precautions were taken to ensure the perpetuity of their coveted influence and fortune.
But the Institute's services did not end with the mere preservation of minds. It boasted an entire legal team devoted to facilitating the transfer of assets and wealth to the newly inhabited bodies. A state-of-the-art medical facility stood at the ready, offering cloning procedures that could replicate these wealthy patrons into younger versions of themselves, effectively resetting the clock on their lives.
In cases where time was of the essence, the Institute provided a discreet and exclusive donor body acquisition service, operating outside the bounds of the legal body donation system. The wealthy clients could specify their desired specifications, and the Institute's operatives would actively procure a donor body to match their exacting criteria.
And so, behind the fortified walls of the Forever You Institute, the dance of life and death intertwined. Wealthy patrons, shrouded in secrecy, sought to transcend the boundaries of mortality, clutching desperately onto the delicate threads of existence. Meanwhile, the public remained ignorant, their lives unfolding without the faintest whisper of the immense power that lay hidden within the confines of their world.

Soph sits at one of two chairs at a tiny table in an equally tiny kitchen. Her hands wring nervously in her lap, eyebrows furrowed in concern as she stares daggers into her host's back. If Vasra is aware of this she makes no mention of it, continuing to fill the kitchen with the sounds of chopping vegetables while humming some unfamiliar tune.
“Is this some sort of elaborate trap?” she asks, eventually.
Vasra turns slightly, “Mm? Oh, uh, no,” she shakes her head before popping a piece of chopped carrot into her mouth and turning back to her task, continuing as she chews, “No traps today. Sorry to disappoint.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Ah, but you do, see. Or at least you want to, otherwise, we’d be doing our usual song and dance by now,” Vasra responded a little too quickly and was waving the knife in her hand a little too casually for Soph’s liking. Picking up on her anxiety, she set the knife aside and showed her open hands, “This isn’t a trap,” she wiggled her fingers a little, “I promise.”
“...Still, you can understand my apprehension, I’m sure. I’ve done nothing but try to kill you for some time and now you’re making dinner for me in your home!” Soph's voice raised a little as she spoke, hands gesturing vaguely at the rest of the cramped little…house? Apartment? She wasn’t entirely sure what to call it, but it seemed claustrophobic, “It’s…more than a little unusual. I can’t imagine your friends are pleased about this.”
Vasra shrugged, “Probably not, but by the time they find out it won’t matter.”
Soph was stunned into silence. No one knew she was doing this? Truly? Surely a situation involving a known enemy - and in such close quarters especially - would require at least a couple of rooftop snipers as a backup or something. But to have none at all? It was ridiculous. Risky. Soph had spent long periods of time with many versions of Vasra across several timelines so this type of behaviour wasn’t exactly new, but this specific timeline - be it the people or events that happen - always managed to surprise her one way or another.
Soph’s attention snapped back to reality real quick when she noticed a new knife pointed at her face. Her body tensed up and she gave Vasra a 'what's the meaning of this?' type of expression.
“Listen, I’ll give you points for persistence but I'm not like the others. You can’t get rid of me that easily. So,” with one swift movement, she turned the knife around so that the handle was being offered instead, “Gonna help me make dinner or are you just gonna sit there? It’ll go faster with the two of us.”
“You’d give me a knife just like that?” Soph hesitated, a little unsure still, “You trust me enough for that?”
“Oh, absolutely not,” Vasra chuckled, “We can’t change what’s happened between us already, but we do have a say in how things continue. I don’t know about you, but personally I’d like there to be less stabbing in my future so I’m extending the proverbial olive branch. Dinner seems like a good way to start, don’t you think?”
She smiles so warmly at Soph then that she almost forgets to take the knife.

Fatty Liver Disease: What You Need to Know
The liver is one of the most complex organs in the human body. The job description of this organ includes an important role in metabolizing and detoxification. Many individuals suffer from a condition called fatty liver disease or (FDL). Like any disease to the liver it's important to catch this before it gets out of hand.
How to discover if you have fatty liver disease?
When a type of fat known as triglyceride accumulates in liver cells, a blockage or backup takes place called steatosis. Generally there are no obvious symptoms. The most common way for your doctor to detect fatty liver disease is through a blood test. Elevated liver enzymes are the first sign that there may be an issue. Fat retention in the cells is the basic cause of fatty liver disease, but determining what is causing this fat build up will determine how your doctor treats you. Best Gastroenterologist In Jaipur
Who is at risk of fatty liver disease?
Anyone is at risk of developing fatty liver disease. The causes range from malnutrition, exposure to drugs or toxins, as well as hepatitis C. Those most likely to suffer from this include diabetics, alcoholics, and those suffering from obesity. One of the effects of a more severe case of (FLD) is inflammation of the liver which can cause a host of other complications in your liver as well as other organs. After determination of the presence of elevated enzymes, your doctor may order an ultra sound and ultimately an MRI is order to have a closer look at the organ. Alcohol consumption may or may not be the cause of this ailment, but a rule of thumb is measurement of consumption. Less than two drinks per day would indicate a non-alcoholic fatty liver while two or more alcoholic drinks per day would lead to alcoholic fatty liver disease.
What are my chances for treating for recovery?
If caught early, the chances of recovery are generally positive. This assumption is based on determining what is causing (FLD) to begin with. If for example, if alcohol consumption is the cause, simply cutting down considerably or quitting all together may prevent future complications such as cirrhosis of the liver. On the other hand, if the cause is determined to be metabolic in nature, such as diabetes, then the road to recovery may take a different turn. Gastroenterologist In Jaipur
With diabetes, the disease causes other complications in the body such as fatty liver. This is primarily due to excessively high levels of glucose in the blood. It's impossible to tackle the fatty liver issue until the cause, diabetes in under control. One of the destructive results of fatty liver is inflammation. One of the most natural ways to fight this is with Omega 3 fish oil. Fish oil is full of fatty acids that work to control and decrease inflammation in the body. Foods with high concentrations of EPA and DHA, fatty acids found in fish oil have been clinically proven to combat the inflammation that results from fatty liver disease. Omega 3 fish oil has been proven to combat fat build up in the blood, as evidenced by controlling excessive levels of cholesterol. The same fatty acids found in fish oil have proven to fight hepatitis which is inflammation of the liver.
