i used to be one of the people who‘d just do motherlode motherlode motherlode and just... what did i do? Why did i do that??? But not anymore lol. Like I said i haven‘t played sims in a few weeks but i‘ve been watching a few legacy challenge let‘s plays and usually i play with the aging off. So my sims just don‘t age 💀 but i could (should) turn aging on so that it stays exciting and i have limited time and everything. and once i get bored with my current sims i can just make them have kids and continue playing as their children when they get older- like recently i remembered that i haven‘t played the acting career in ages? and i haven‘t had a shop in ages? and i think you can even become a vet right??? like those are definitely some things i want to do in the next weeks!!! Also yes sksksjs i have a few hundred hours on sims as well (if not thousands 😭) it was just that one household that i‘d been playing with for 24hrs

i wasn’t tagged but i’m doing it anyway because you can’t stop me 

1. what is your ideal setting for focusing on your writing?

ideally at my desk since its where i have everything i need (plus my google home is there for when i need music), or i actually like to sit on the floor and write at my coffee table with my headphones on - i do listen to music when i write but then i’m really concentrating i have to switch it to something that has no words otherwise i get my thoughts all jumbled up! 

2. what is your favourite genre to write?

i’m a film student so i’m sorta well versed in a lot of genres, i treat my fics like i’m writing a movie (is that weird?) so i really get into the genres i write, but if i had to pick a fave genre id actually say horror or even suspense fiction, i like gothic romanticism and fantasy as well lmao. 

3. do you prefer to write on paper, or digitally?

both - i jot down ideas/small paragraphs of stories on paper and transfer them, or i write just into a word doc, i’m not too fussy.

4. it’s the middle of the night and you suddenly wake up with an idea. what do you do?

short hand it into my evernote and pray to god that i remember it in the morning - i have to really be passionate about it to actually get out of bed to write it down!

my short hand is messy but it makes sense to me.

5. who is your favourite person to write about?

im a ff writer, i have been for a very long time (not on this blog) but since im writing kpop ff atm and i have an undying love for my exo bias, imma go with sehun - its just so easy to write for him and i have such a respect for him that everything just flows. 

I sorta mould my writing to whoever i’m writing however, i just to make sure my fics (at least characterwise) don’t sound tonally all the same. 

6. do you like making your own characters, or do you usually write about real people?

although atm i’m writing kpop ff, i have in the past made many a character and i have a very long process into how i do it, maybe ill share one day.

But, I like both, but i do enjoy the work that goes into making a character, but tbh - when you write kpop ff you’re not really writing about a real person (unless stated), you build a character around an existing human and it still works!

7. have you ever written a book, or a story with more than 15 chapters (or 100k words)?

In the past i’ve written nearly 100k but that was when i was still a teenager and didn’t put the most work into my stories. 

I’m trying to write a book and i’m writing a ff thats about to be 20 chapters lmao, i’m over 65k into born to die and its only chapter 6 so i can only imagine what it’ll be on by the time i get to chapter 20 since i at minimum write 11k a chapter! 

8. how often do you get ideas?

i’m having one rn as i type. 

i get ideas all the time, i’m very influenced by my environment - from the places i’m in to even what i’m listening to, i draw ideas from it! 

i also am a sucker for getting ideas from media that i intake! i’m an avid reader and movie watcher but i’m also pretty big into gaming and have been since i was a teenager! 

9. do you ever get an idea that you really like, but just can’t seem to finish?

All the time, sometimes the direction you go for just isn’t feasible for a story or it ends up being a bit lacklustre but i do have a few shelved ideas that just wont get finished for various reasons.  

10. what is your least favourite plot?

Huh, of my own? it would be one of my shelved idea’s 

of other peoples? its harder to say, I’m very picky so i don’t just read anything not matter how desperate I am to read something

How do you make your icons circle with the pixels on them?? :o

ooh! tutorial time! heads up, i use photoshop in case you wanna do this yourself and all commands will be windows commands. i do not use a mac.for pixels, i just find them on tumblr via blogs like pixel-soupone google search and you can probably find hundreds of these pixel blogs. i really hope this is helpful. i will try to go over all the steps in case people are not photoshop smart.

sorry this! got really long! i wanted to be detailed and wanted this to be as helpful as can be!! please, send in any questions if you got any

first things first! you gotta open photoshop and file > new. for this, we are gonna keep it at 100 x 100 pixels.

once that is open, we are going to be using the ellipse tool which can be found on the sidebar here or you can press u and it will go to that tool. ( default tool is the rectangle tool i believe. )

you can either just click on the screen once you have the tool selected or you can click and drag into the size / shape you want. i find the single click is easier as you can just type what you want in for the size as seen here

you will probably need to move it. either with the transformation tool ( ctrl + T ) or you can use the properties window. ( if it isn’t open, go to window > properties ) and manually type where you want it. for this, we want it centered and just slightly smaller than 100px x 100px.

next you will click the ‘mask’ button on the properties window and then you click that… rectangle selection tool. i really do not know what it is called but it will select the circle. that is what we want! oh yea! do not mind the background of the circle. it can literally be any colour we want it.

in the window where we deal with our layers, make a new layer. if you do not know how to, click that button that is circled below. we want the layer above the ellipse!

on the new layer, go back to our circle that is selected ( if you accidentally deselected, just go up a step and just do the mask thing again ) and select stroke.

width can be anything you like / prefer. i just like 2px. colour can be anything you like. for this icon i am making, it is gonna be pink. location is going to be inside. you can change all this for your preference but this is how i just normally do mine.

with those steps done, it should look something like this

now, hopefully, you grabbed the pixel you wanted. for this i am using a chibiusa wand pixel. and you just… drag the layer you want from the pixel plop it onto the current icon we are making.

now it is there… a bit big. we are just gonna use the transformation tool ( ctrl + T ) to move it around and to size it down a bit.

ta-da! that looks better already!!

and then we just grab an icon. imma borrow an icon from here. since it is 240 x 240, im going to size it down to 100 x 100 before placing it in the icon file.

huh… thats not right.. okay we need to move it under everything…well that’s better but it is still not what we want! 

so this is where we want to do a clipping layer! so we right click on the layer and hit ‘create clipping layer’

aND BAM!! CIRCLE ICON WITH A PIXEL~!

to your surprise, he rolled his eyes, laughed and ruffled your hair

“that was a really bad joke but you’re lucky i have the same sense of humor” his laugh was infectious so you had to smile

then he asked, “are you okay? not too tired?”

sitting up, you put your phone back in your pocket

“nah, my arms just ache, but it’s fine.” your polite smile suddenly grew into a wide smirk. “thanks for worrying, mum”

“i’m not a mum!” his expression made you have the sudden urge to burst into endless chuckles

in the corner of your eye, you could see ten, doyoung and johnny elbowing each other, pointing at you and kun and singing “kiss the girl”

the two of you had been walking and talking for a while now, but kun still didn’t say what he was going to show you

you were waiting patiently, expecting him to eventually tell you, but you gave in

to your relief, he didn’t hear you, because he laughed at your pout and pressed on

coloured lines streamed down from the top to the bottom, like a very pink, purple and blue waterfall, while stage lights at the bottom smoothly changed from red to orange to yellow and more

it also reminded you of the windows screen when you used it for the first time (if that even makes sense?)

white light shone from beneath the many large stars decorating the tree, making them pop, and the wind revealed that the tree wasn’t made of smooth silver metal, but silver sequins that showed the water ripples and waves from below

the star at the top was the most intensely bright of them all, with a rainbow outline and a gold center

needless to say, it was pretty darn beautiful for a sight that would otherwise hurt your eyes

you stood there with your mouth wide open, looking like a pathetic fish, and almost missed what kun was saying

“i wasn’t sure if you would like the ferris wheel or the tree, but then i found out that the ferris wheel would be closed today, so i just chose this,” you felt his gaze shift onto you, and you tried not to get flustered. “do you like it?”

you took a moment before you spoke. “yes, i really like it a lot,” the view was that breathtaking it took away your ability to talk like a proper adult. you turned to him and gave a smile, trying to make it look as genuine as you could. “thanks for bringing me here, kun.”

So, you've got a story. You've done your research, created your characters and got your plot locked in. You've sat for hours staring at a screen, cursing the muses: why can't what's in my brain just be put on the page!?!? #impotent rage#

Finally you've done it! The words are there in black and white. It's perfection.

Wrong

You start to notice things out of place: a comma here, a word there. Suddenly perfection isn't so perfect.

That's where editors come in. Bet you didn’t know there’s different kinds based on what they do for you?? Wanna know?? Imma tell you anyway cause it’s my love <3

Proofreader

The first point of call for any writer wanting their work checked. Their job is to go through your work and pick out spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes, as well as continuity errors and query writing styles. They will have perfect punctuation and grammar and are basically living fine tooth combs when it comes to spotting mistakes!! Maybe you use the American English spellings; they’ll make sure no pesky British English sneaks its way in lool Maybe you’ve chosen to capitalise the first word in a list after your colon -- who knew there was a choice, right?? There is. Continuity checking will make sure every first letter after a colon is capitalised just for you ^=^ Names!! Omgosh who hasn’t spelled a name wrong sometimes?!?! Especially when you’re typing up a storm and haven’t noticed you’ve switched the middle letters around...common mistake, believe me.

So, yeah, the proofreader will be your pioneer into the grammar of your book, cutting through those mistakes and making them right.

What should a good proofreader expect to make?? £27000pa Not bad huh?? Just for correcting a few mistakes {;-D

Copy Editor

Not the same as a proofreader, although ppl do mix up the two since the jobs overlap some. Occasionally misnomered as a beta reader, but their job is far more involved than that. These brilliant people will take your work and comb through the entire thing, correcting all the same things as proofreaders do, but they will also offer suggestions to improve the final work. They’ll go that one step further, though and research your facts and anything else you’ve included to make sure it’s right. How embarrassing would it be to have an incorrect fact floating about in your book!! OMGOSH!! They manage language translations -- better than google too -- and offer suggestions on how to improve the overall tone and pacing of your book.

For all that they’re actually cheaper than proofreaders too!! Can you believe that?!?! They make a very nice £25000pa.

Line editors.

Will not only do the above two job roles, but will also go through your work and offer suggested changes as well. “Wait. Did you just say that’s what copy editors do?” I did!! But, line editors are where the creative fun really lies lool  Did you not finish a sentence? They'll do it. Your character's voice sounds identical to another, yet has a different grasp of vocabulary? They'll simplify their speech. Your action scenes are too introspective? They'll bring the punch you wanted it to have. In short, a line editor is an extension of you, filling in the gaps you might have missed. They will never take from your work, only enhance what you have created. Your voice is their voice and a good line editor will love your work as much as you do ^=^

Their salaries are a little more difficult to pin down, since what they’re doing is a lot more involved than simple editing and fact checking. The best paid line editors will get £25,000 per bestseller.  So for argument’s sake JK’s line editor got £25,000 for each book she wrote, netting them a very nice £200,000. 

Ghostwriter.

Expert level editing. They'll not only correct your work, they'll do it all for you!! You have the ideas, but not the skill to put pen to page. This is where the ghostwriter steps in, taking your concept and bringing it to life!! You get your name on your novel and they get a nice payday. Win/win. Ghostwriting doesn’t just apply to fiction, it applies to anything where your words end up being used by someone else. Trump desperately needs one I think we’ll all agree lool Ghostwriters can be hired for all sorts of jobs, whether it’s factual, speech writing or fiction. If you have the idea and don’t know how to get it out of your head then it’s their job to crack your skull open and pull it out!!  Unfortunately, it’s not the highest paid work of the lot. In fact, it’s the lowest lool  You’d think someone doing all the work would get more money?? Why would someone hire them in the first place in that case?? No, our poor, lowly ghostwriters only net between £10,000-25,000 per work, and that’s only if they’re the very best at what they do.

Beta readers

You didn’t think I forgot about this one, did you?? It’s not technically a paid position, since it’s usually filled by a writer’s friends or people who’ve volunteered to help for research.  A beta reader will read through chapters and ask questions. They’ll point out inconsistencies with things and make comments, suggest possible plot twists -- if it’s fiction. They’re the first people besides the writer who get to see the first draft of a thing.

Have a concept I wanna writeSince you mentioned the lost prince, let’s just use that as an example haha.I love ideas of like the lost prince/princess (Anastasia what?) so I really wanted to do a gyuhao lost prince concept and man, wouldn’t hao be the coolest knight ever???

Have a scene I want to writeI wanted Minghao and Mingyu to meet during an altercation and Minghao saves Prince Mingyu’s ass. While running away, they end up rolling down a hill and then Minghao knocks his tooth against Mingyu’s pinky and oops! They are now magically bonded as prince and knight!(Tbh, the first chapter was originally the only chapter I was going to write, but then…well, ahem, 25 chapters later…)

Why did that scene occur?Brief introduction, it doesn’t need to be super detailed, but just basic setting! Since he’s a lost prince, he’s probably…not living in the palace. How about a marketplace? So who’s chasing Mingyu? Hm, ruffians! >:) and I wanna build a little moral uprightness in Mingyu’s character so he was protecting children~

Write it!Probably the hardest part ;;A;;)/ words are difficult! But sometimes outlining it and skipping around might help! Fill out what you can and come back to what you can’t!If you can’t find the words: think of how other people said it! I do a lot of reading both fanfiction and books and just searching for passages with those subjects (as well as searching through thesaurus.com LOL). One time I was trying to think of different ways to describe angel wings so I literally googled “how to describe angel wings” and then kind of formed what I was trying to say that way.NEVER BE AFRAID TO GOOGLE STUFF (Wikipedia, yahoo, bing, whatever) because a lot of times, it’s easier if you have a reference (no plagiarizing tho, that’s not cool)

I will admit that I probably think about the storyline for much longer before I start writing, BUT I will always start from one particular scene! If there is no such scene and I have an AU idea, I usually just let it sit until I can think of a very specific scene I wanna write.

If it’s not an original idea but rather an AU of a set universe, I do something similar EXCEPT I usually sort people into their roles beforehand.Ex. If I were to write a Hogwarts/Harry Potter AU, I would sort all the members into houses and short explanations of how they are

And usually the story kind of comes to me as I give people roles in the AU.

GENERAL TIPS

Write what you loveLet it be the most self-indulgent thing ever because that will make it easier to write and probably easier to motivate yourself to write.

An invested reader’s input is amazing BUT never let it sway what you want to write.Believe me, if you let what your readers want dictate what you write, you’re going to feel pressured and put off writing it.

ITS OKAY NOT TO KNOW WHERE THE HELL THIS STORY IS GOING!Especially if you’ve just started fic writing! No pressure friend! You’ll get better at story planning as you plan and write more! The more you write, the better you’ll get at planning them! And if you have to abandon a story ‘cause wtf was I doing? It’s A-OK! I can’t tell you HOW many stories I’ve abandoned over the years LOL *sweats nervously*

Do NOT compare yourself to other writers!Some writers have been writing for YEARS (and if you haven’t seen them around, they may have been in other fandoms!), and some writers are language/English MAJORS irl (as in they study words/writing and read A LOT!!!). And of course, there are just some writers who have a way with words and some have these holy shit ideas! Some writers crank out beautiful 30K+ fics and some writers write the most moving But you know what? YOU will be that amazing writer to someone out there. Does it take time? Yes. Does it take work? Yes. May you feel discouraged at first? YES. And that leads back to my first general tip: Write what you love……and people will love what you write

for example i could say Einführungsveranstaltungsteilnehmer (which is not underlined with red by tumblr because it is a grammatically correct compound word (i think that‘s what they‘re called?)) which is the words introduction + event + participant, so that word just means “participant of an introductory event“ but instead it‘s one word? i hope that makes sense? dkdkkdksks i mean it makes sense in german but idk if it makes sense to you cause idk if i‘m explaining it very well lmao,

I used to watch all of my series in German (like H2O) bc obviously they were on german tv so they were german- and i knew that most of these actors i saw on tv were american and i was always SO fascinated that they all learned german for this show???
