what has happened in bnha lore wise. <-guy who was out of the fandom in 2019 (aka around overhaul arc?? with eri)

ok i will be so for real right now my understanding of the current plot is mainly what i get through skimming some of the more recent chapters/season 7 episodes and reading fanfic so i'm. not super well versed on details but from what i understand:

1) there were two war arcs, apparently: the paranormal liberation war arc and the one that just wrapped up, the final war arc. i say "apparently" bc before i got back into it i thought those were the same thing, lmfao. but essentially in the paranormal liberation war arc, various pro heroes + class 1a (or maybe all of ua? i'm kind of unclear on that) are fighting against the league of villains + the paranormal liberation front. don't really know much about motivations, but i do know that that's the arc where aizawa loses his leg and his eye, and also the arc where katsuki takes a hit from shigaraki/afo (i'll explain that in a sec) for izuku. the final war arc, on the other hand, honestly do not know a lot about that either outside of how it affects izuku and katsuki specifically. like i know that they're fighting just the league + afo, and i know that the members of the league that are still alive are slowly killed off (or at least defeated if not killed) until it gets to the final fight with shigaraki/afo and Mainly izuku, but others step in along the way too i'm pretty sure. major thing that happens this arc is that this is where the leaks of katsuki lying dead on the ground came from, but don't worry! he got better! he comes back a while later to help fight shigaraki alongside izuku, says some pretty homosexual shit while doing so (such as calling himself "kacchan" to afo's face at one point), and then the final stretch happens where all of class 1a pushes izuku forward to finally defeat shigaraki/afo. yippee!! where the story's gonna go from here i have no idea, but. there's that.

2) i did find out also that the traitor to ua that got hinted at a few times was revealed: it turned out to be aoyama. basically his whole deal is that it turns out he was also quirkless, but his parents, out of fear of him being looked at differently, made a deal with afo to give their son a quirk, hence him having navel laser at the start of the show. i'm pretty sure his parents weren't aware afo was a villain at the time, they just heard rumors of a guy that could give people quirks and were like "oh sweet, our son is saved!" but in exchange for giving aoyama navel laser, afo had him leak information about ua such as where the class would be for festivals/training during his time there so that the lov could attack. fucked up stuff honestly 😭 i'm not 100% sure how that gets resolved but i do know that him and his parents were taken into custody, his parents i think for colluding w afo and aoyama was taken in mainly to ensure that he wouldn't be a danger to ua anymore (as in like. they wanted to make sure afo didn't do anything to him to make him a ticking time bomb. lol!)

3) ok the whole shigaraki sort of being afo thing i will admit i think i know how that actually happened. i'm pretty sure that after the my villain academia arc, shigaraki is modified by dr. garaki (i think that's his name but the same guy that diagnosed izuku quirkless in the beginning) to basically be a new host for afo. so for a while shigaraki, and by extension the league (i think), are out of commission, and then once shigaraki wakes up and is succesfully made the host of afo, they get back out there and do crime, lol. for a while shigaraki acts pretty much the same as he always did with afo's voice in his head in a similar way to the previous ofa users in izuku's head, and then there's a turning point in the paranormal liberation war arc where afo straight up hijacks shigaraki's body, lol, so that's cool. i think he controls shigaraki fully up until the last few chapters of the final war arc too, although i might be wrong abt that.

4) the most recent chapter leaks i did fully read through, so i know what goes down there! basically it takes place one week after the final war, and the first half is dedicated to explaining how recovery efforts are going. not too much major stuff going on there, just mainly people saying they're glad it's over and that people having quirks makes the recovery process easier, but not necessarily better. second half of the chapter is katsuki and izuku in the hospital! they're in separate rooms, katsuki with his parents and a doctor, and izuku in another that he shares w all might (who is alive after all of that btw - i honestly thought he died). katsuki gets told that his right arm might never recover and that he'd be better off with a prosthetic, but he shuts that down and says that he'll kick recovery's ass, lmao. then it switches to izuku and all might talking, with a major thing there being that, in order to defeat shigaraki, izuku had to transfer ofa to him, meaning that all he has left are the embers of ofa, and soon he will be rendered quirkless again (don't ask me why the transfer had to happen btw i have no idea). this is where katsuki bursts in, and upon hearing that izuku only has the embers left he reflects on how he bullied izuku in the past and starts crying, bc he's upset that they won't be able to compete for the number one spot together anymore (this fucked me up btw God). izuku tells him not to worry, all might says some stuff abt both of them being the greatest heroes, they both smile, and then the chapter ends w izuku and his fuckass haircut looking up at ua being rebuilt.

i think that's most of what i know!! sorry i went on for so long, lol, i said i didn't know much at the start but the more i typed the more i realized i actually did know 😂 at some point i might go back and pick up the manga where i left off, bc i am very much intrigued, but idk when that'll happen, so. yeah!!

I have boy problems and I need some advice…

I’ve been seeing this one guy on/off for a couple of years. In the beginning it was just going out on dates and hanging out but after a year of that I had developed feelings way deeper than him so I wanted to take a break. The break lasted for about nine months.

We started seeing each other again in a more friendly manner. It took us many months to have sex again after the break. Ever since we’ve had this weird fwb/on/off relationship.

At this point I honestly don’t know how I feel about him anymore because we don’t really talk about our feelings and one of my friends just recently told me they see him as an opportunist who’s only taking advantage of me.

I have to add that we don’t have sex every time we see each other anymore (even when we sleep in the same bed) and even though I don’t know how I feel about him/the situation I feel like I know him well enough to argue against my friend. Also, all of my friends love him except that one friend. I want to rely on my own intuition about him since this friend of mine has only met him like 4 times over the past few years but I just can’t get their opinion out of my head.

What would you do in my situation? Or how would you communicate this to them when having trouble communicating??? Sounds weird, I know, but he’s the first person ever who I’ve put myself before (the break) and been sincere with. He’s always responded with respect. We’re just never talking about our feelings towards each other. I know he has his own issues but I think he and I could work things through.

It may be confusing to some, but, I’ve been in a very similar situation myself so this not only makes sense, but rings a bell. What I’ve learned is (and this may piss people off and I’m sure I’ll hear about it in my ask box lol) is that it’s possible for both things to be true. We may not want that to be the case because of course it would be easy to either say “he’s using me so fuck him” or “he’s a lovely saint of a person. No way.” I think with my and my ex? He liked me a whole lot. Sometimes this was clear from the way he treated me and spoke to me. BUT I also think there was an element of ego in it too. He enjoyed the fact that I’m a very select person who doesn’t really open up to many people and I opened up to him and liked him and I think that made him feel worthy or special. He liked the attention that I gave him cuz I was hopelessly in love with him and went above and beyond. So something he would come to me if he’s feeling down or whatever just cuz he knows he’s gonna be showered with love and care and support. He didn’t always return the favor. I always cared more than he did. It’s not like he didn’t like me or secretly talked about me behind my back or anything so patently cruel. He liked me. But I guess it’s hard not to like someone who treats you so good, you know? We also had a lot in common similar childhoods. We liked the same movies and books. So there was an ease to our hang outs and stuff. Like I think that’s why we were friends even when weren’t actively hooking up/ dating/ etc. and have stayed friends now that our relationship romantically exploded lol.

If it were me? I would get clarity from myself first. What do you feel? What do you want? Do you think you love him? Do you wanna be with him in like a long term monogamous romantic relationship (like beyond just sex and friendship)? Once you determine this, then it’s time to find out how he feels.

My one thing that I will emphasize is that when it came to my ex, he was always wishy-washy. When I would ask him how he felt about me he would say “it’s not like you’re over there having all these intense feelings and I’m completely dead inside." So you see how vague that is? It’s not an “I love you” or “I like you and want us to give this a real shot” or a “let’s date casually and see where we go from there.” It doesn’t say anything really. He and I were so intimate and so well connected that I kept making excuses for him. Told myself that he’s bad at communicating. He had a bad childhood (as did I) and is uncomfortable about romance. He’s a boy. Boys are shit when it comes to talking about feelings. Well he does treat me nice enough. He’s respectful so that’s something. I made all these excuses for him and kept ignoring my need for clarity, my desire for my love for him to be acknowledged and reciprocated. Until I just couldn’t take it anymore. It hurt so much and fucked with my mind and drained me emotionally. We “ended” things in 2018/2019 and it’s only a few months ago that I started to move on.

So, my suggestion would be, figure out what you want, then have a direct conversation about it with him. If he tried to get out of the conversation or if he’s vague and weird about it, that’s your answer. That tells you all that you need to know.

You deserve more than just nice enough or respectful. That’s the bare minimum. You deserve someone who’s committed and direct and doesn’t use you as a confidence boost or to compensate for insecurity. It’s hard. Hurts a lot. But you can’t ignore your own feelings just to prolong your relationship. It’s not worth the pain I promise.

Although I do wonder if my favs would be different if i'd gotten into the show at a different time, like if i'd had more time with newer seasons and less nostalgia chaining me to the older ones lmao.

so like sgdkdhdkdhd I say Jay and Lloyd are my “favorites” but honestly it’s so hard to pick favorites out of this skittles squad like I love EVERY character for a variety of different reasons. I was going to also infodump about Lloyd but then I started talking about Prime Empire and then this post got. Long. So. it's just Jay I may infodump about Lloyd another day especially since I'm very Conduit Brained Rn but yea yea!

I AM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THE IDEA THAT PRIME EMPIRE WAS WRITTEN TO BE A DIRECT PARALLEL OF SKYBOUND AND WAS CENTERED ON SHOWING HOW THE NINJA ESPECIALLY JAY HAVE GROWN THROUGHOUT THE SEASON

when season 12 rolls around we are at the point in Jay's development where he is CONFIDENT in who he is. He's a fun-loving jokester with the power of lightning and the drive to help people whenever he can. He uses jokes and humor to help alleviate tension and get people through whatever's happening. And when on his own what does he do?

BECOME AN ENTERTAINER BABEY

i like to think jay's club in prime empire was a safe haven for anyone stuck in the game who figured out hey. we Can't Leave and felt freaked about it. Also Jay would generally try and spread the word that hey something ISN'T RIGHT HERE which would lead people to want to stay with him

(totally plugging my friend's fic but this kind of thing is explored in would you like to enter prime empire by @finn-m-corvex y'all should check it out cool cool)

also the prime empire shorts which i watched all of in the midst of typing this video cuz i love them go watch them please please please jay was publically fighting the red visors which I imagine may have raised some red flags for some players

THIS SOMEHOW TURNED INTO PRIME EMPIRE INFODUMPING LMAO ANYWAYS Jay's confident! He becomes an entertainer because it's who he knows he is! And it's something that will get people hyped and having fun, which is very in-character for Jay to do! He uses those kinds of things to mask the Bad Things going on and get people remembering what's good

I've talked about this sort of thing before but that's Jay's whole philosophy as early as season 9! Which is a DIRECT contrast to how he views it in season 6, as Nadakhan puts it scarily accurately

"You make jokes to mask the fact that you're afraid"

making jokes to hide your fear and using humor to remind yourself of what's good and coping with the bad are two VERY different outlooks on it

so I think this outlook is what drives him to make this glamrock persona in the first place - this is a bad situation, one he's in with other civilians, and what better way to keep him and themself safe until the others get there than throwing a big performance at a safe place!

also it's just so gender okay I want to look like Superstar Rockin' Jay so badly

it's also interesting to see his outlook on his parents change over time! In season six he finds out Ed and Edna aren't his birth parents and feels upset about it, not understanding why his birth parents would've abandoned him. In season twelve, that outlook changing is EXACTLY why Jay's able to get through to Unagami

"I was abandoned by my parents, too!... I never understood why, and I never had the chance to even ask. But I always hoped there was a good reason. What if there's a reason?"

(again curse you netflix i wanted SCREENSHOTS whatever whatever)

It's this scene that gets Unagami to calm down long enough for Milton Dyer to get there, and presumably is what stops him from just. Flattening him and Jay like a pancake.

to piggyback off of this i absolutely adore how Unagami and Jay consider each other adopted brothers in that one book I still haven't read and I hope he's in Dragons Rising at some point Unagami is my favorite "villain" (no longer a villain) in the whole show he deserves more screentime

anyways literally every episode Ed and Edna are central to (except like the one in skybound) Jay stops at nothing to protect his parents and it means the absolute world to me he's so much like them!! They raised an inventive little nerd and he will stop at nothing to make sure they're safe and it's. It's SO IMPORTANT TO ME OKAY

The League 🤔

I've been wanting to do this for a while but I haven't gotten around to it with everything I got going on. And good lord this isn't going to be a popular opinion, but I'm at a point where I don't care. I just want to predict what's going to happen based off of what we know.

I got into a recent back and forth with someone about the "Shigaraki as the final villain" argument, and quite frankly, nothing that has been brought to the table has changed my mind on that front. He won't be, because as he is in the story right now, he's just not final villain material (a thread talking about that in that link). I still stand by that.

But one of the counter arguments to suggest that he'd manage to fight his way out of AFO's control was that he has strong convictions tied to his and the LOV's goals, and that he'd hold onto his hatred enough to keep fighting for "that". And well, given that in the text it's literally stated that the more he hates, the weaker he gets against AFO, I'm not even gonna bother diving into the "letting go of hatred to set himself free" argument. We have the solution in the dialogue of the characters, there's no point in debating what we literally already know for a fact. What I DO want to tackle is this idea that the LOV have goals to work toward, because personally I feel like that's romanticizing what they're actually doing into something more grand and spectacular than what's actually happening. That is what I'm gonna counter below the cut:

"The LOV have goals to work toward." Do they?

I mean, what goals do we have, honestly:

We have Touya, whose goal was to meet his end in a blaze of glory alongside his dad. So basically, to die. Yes, you can say he was trying to bring his dad to justice, but look at the response to the exposure we literally HAVE. In the end Endeavor would have just been upheld as the hero who was killed by a villain. I'm sure Touya to some extent understands this, and understands that (in HIS mind) his family would go on resenting him for killing their dad. But he would be dead, so he wouldn't care. He wanted his dad to see him, and that was his way of making sure he did. Also like...nobody in the Todoroki family is condemning Touya for being angry. None of them. Shouto didn't say "get over being mad at dad", he said "Stop taking innocent lives and take your rage out on US". Shouto is the one who said "he is me." Nobody in the Todoroki family is saying Endeavor should be shielded from the hatred, resentment, and criticism, from the family or the public.

Toga, who "wants to live free" and be herself, but even she can't voice how that looks beyond the small community of acceptance she received from the LOV. The LOV were a small glimpse at what she wants, but seeing her recent attempts at achieving the same thing with the hero kids, she still doesn't even know what "free" looks like. She still can't express it without creeping the other party out.

Twice? Not that it matters because he's gone now, but I didn't see him voice any goals. He was just happy being with the LOV. They could have planned anything, and he would have gone along for the ride. They could have run away and lived in a forest somewhere, and he would have just gone along with it. And before people say that they all felt that way, show me where? Lol.

Compress is just living up to his lineage in a way and following up on ideals carried through generations. Kinda just letting Shigaraki, Toga, Touya, and Spinner take the reins in getting there. But really didn't contribute much beyond just being a warm body there.

There's Spinner, who hasn't evolved beyond following people he idealizes and puts on pedestals. First Stain, now Shigaraki. And no, there is no framing to suggest it's a good thing that he's doing this. It's a flaw that is waiting to be addressed in his arc.

Then we have Shigaraki. Who, the very first thing he was called out for (by a scared Izuku at the mall) was having no conviction or ideals. Shigaraki came to a conclusion (a world without All Might), which actually was something that produced a vision to work toward, but then not long after that abandoned even THAT. All Might retired, the symbol was gone, and the frailty of their world was exposed, but the LOV still existed and were still suffering. Shigaraki was still left with unaddressed anger, resentment, grief, and sadness (which shows you exactly WHY everything he is doing is not the solution). He went from having a specific idea for what kind of world he wanted to exist, to just--wanting their world and everything in it to come crashing down. He didn't evolve his convictions into something intricate and grand, he devolved them into the opposite. Yes, it's reactive. Yes, his complaints are valid, I'm not discounting that, in fact, that's a different discussion altogether. But people continue to think that everything that happened in MVA was positive development for him, starting with the "Why not destroy it all?" speech. And it I fail to see how. Was it development? Absolutely, it moved his arc forward, got him closer to the conclusion he'll get at the end of the story. And it was necessary for this story to be told, obviously. But was it positive for him? Hmmm, not sure I believe that. I don't see it.

So.....tell me exactly what goals we're talking about? What exactly is AFO standing in the way of, in terms of what the LOV is trying to achieve? He's not stopping Touya from completing his suicide mission, he's not stopping Toga from "becoming the people she loves", and he's certainly not stopping Spinner from worshipping the ground Shigaraki walks on. All of these "goals" the individual League members have point in the same direction AFO is heading toward. And currently you don't see any of the LOV members fighting or going against AFO at all--who btw aren't really all that in the dark about AFO and Shigaraki's situation, as they've seen and been horrified by what they saw in that cave. They're not fighting against him because....everything they're all doing points in the same direction.

With the state the League is in right now, they're all operating on their own individual agendas. This is clear. They're not coordinating any plans together, they're not forming teams to combat anything.

We literally SEE the individualistic mindsets they're stuck in through Toga's actions at the beginning of this arc. She didn't pull Izuku through that portal with the intent of just fighting and killing him. She pulled him through as a last ditch attempt to reach an understanding and maybe find some sort of answer to her question that she's been asking since Twice died:

She wanted an answer.

She pulled him through to talk. Obviously it didn't work, it was never going to. Izuku hasn't thought hard enough about her, had enough one-on-one time with her to deep dive into her mindset, and he's got his thoughts elsewhere too much to talk it out in their setting. Plus, there's the obvious narrative issue that she's not his villain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

But Toga pulling him through at the last second was showing just how much she's focusing on herself right now.

The LOV trio are all operating on their own self-interests. You could actually split the LOV in half and see how differently the six members were operating:

Twice, who just wanted to be with the League, regardless of what was going on

Compress worrying about keeping everyone together during MVA, while Shigaraki trudged on ahead, worried about keeping everyone together during the war arc as well, while Toga split for Ochacko, and even sacrificed himself so they could all get away

Spinner, following Shigaraki around during MVA, trying to keep everyone together during the war arc while Toga split, continuing to get lost in his idealization of Shigaraki in the current arc and now *gestures toward current Spinner*

Then compare to the trio:

Touya, who kept his identity a secret the whole time, who constantly split off to "recruit", gather intel on other people where it might come in handy later to bring his dad down crashing and burning

Toga, again I bring this up a lot, but constantly wanting validation and attention from Ochacko, Tsu, and Izuku--how does that align with anything the LOV are working at? (Tomura even said he wouldn't destroy the things she likes, butttt he tried to kill Izuku like a bunch lolol)

Then Shigaraki--who, yes wants to destroy the corrupt society they're in because it brings about its own villains, causes pain, ignores those who need help etc. etc., but he also has an entire other set of issues completely separate from the "lost child wandering the streets and being ignored"

His family. How many times does he remember the pain associated with them, with losing them. How many times do we see the Tenko that existed before his family died to represent his honest thinking?

And, well, Shigaraki's family has nothing to do with the League. Just, another notion that the LOV aren't all in sync and working to rebuild some "fixed" version of what they're living in now.

So back to Shigaraki just magically becoming himself again (which, I've already explored why that ain't happenin)--what is is exactly that AFO is keeping from happening? Again, he's not keeping Touya from his plans, or Toga from hers. Does he view them as equals? Nah. Not even a little. But idk what Shigaraki would be fighting for when the LOV aren't even fighting against AFO themselves, as in, they don't view it as a fight TO fight for.

At this point, literally the only thing AFO is "in the way of" in terms of the LOV and what they're doing, is Shigaraki being himself. That's the obstacle. The rest of the League are all also operating on an individual agenda that doesn't have much to do with each other, or anybody else.

Again, this isn't to say they don't care about each other. Like....I'm not here to throw shade at anybody's interpretation of their friendships or anything. But the romanticizing and woobifying of what they're actually trying to do is getting in the way of analyzing what's actually going on.

You know, people on the other side are probably suffering too (there are several canon examples actually!), but, they'll die if the LOV win. This isn't a fight for making things better for people in general who are suffering. It's a reaction to their own unaddressed pain and suffering, it's revenge, and anybody who gets in the way is going down.

And that's why saving is so important. Because if the LOV win, they still lose. (expanded on there) They're still miserable, they're still ignored by the people they wanted attention from. Nothing gets better. That's why their solution is not a revolution or a positive thing they can continue to pursue, it's not even remotely framed that way. It'll only hurt them more, and--once again, that's why being saved by the "other side" (heroes!) is so important for them to get what they need.

Villain Deku having to “clean” another one of his messes. Why? He was dealing with another villain group, starting to make a trade contract and whatnot when he and LoV learned that the group’s first task was to assassinate S/O. The villain group has NO idea they were now on the To Kill List as they bragged what they planned to do to S/O before killing her. No one in LoV is more pissed off than Deku, of course. Later, S/O greets Deku at home, pampering him and having no idea of the slaughter.

Jeanist is here huh. Yay he’s not dead!

So I asked myself while writing this, why am I apparently not wanting Jeanist to pop up and prove Dabi’s “lying” (he’s not, he just doesn’t know the truth) about Hawks? Apparently I want society’s faith in heroes to be shaken or something. Well yeah. I guess, as long as our heroes make it out of this arc alive, I’m kinda rooting for the villains to win here. Not because I agree with them, but because it feels like that’s the point of this arc, this piece of the story. It’s the “fall of the old” to make way for the new. The Darkest Hour, the ending of the Empire Strikes Back (fittingly), the climax of the Rise of Villains Saga for the series as a whole. Night getting darkest just before the dawn. So I guess I want the villains to win here. (so the UA protags can bring everything back up again). I guess I’m just hoping Jeanist’s arrival doesn’t undermine everything Dabi just said, cause so much of it is true. All the stuff about Endeav is true. And Hawks did kill Twice, for the greater good no. So to have everyone just live in denial...it would undermine this whole arc. So yes, I’m rooting for the villains here.

The BNHA x Chobits AU that no one, not even Mineta, asked for.

The ramblings of my mind under the cut. Warning, it’s loooong.

Okay, so bear in mind that I only watched four episodes of Chobits and it was probably about 14 years ago, and also I didn’t really like it, lol

-Todoroki finds Midoriya laying on some bags of trash next to a dumpster.

-First he’s like “oh no, I need an adult,” because for all his “training,” dad never actually told him what to do when he found a dead body, (this is the summer before he starts U.A., so he’s still living at home). Endeavor is away for a week, and Fuyumi doesn’t count to him (sort of an Aristocats, “she’s not [an adult,] she’s just a sister!” thing). While he’s trying to remember that the police exist, he notices this dead body has very strange ear-like things. He comes closer to investigate. There are lots of weird body types in the world, because of quirks, but these things look metal, which isn’t unheard of, but something about these ears just strike him as unnatural.

- Good news, it seems like a robot, not a dead body. The ears open easily, and there are buttons inside. A power button (that’s right CHOBITS!! It’s in the ear! My love story isn’t going to start with molestation), some USB ports, an aux port, a slot for a microchip or SIM card or whatever, some sort of safety switch (he flips that on)…what really convinces him this is totally a robot are the blutooth and volume buttons (that’s right, Midoriya in this au can charge phones AND he’s a speaker, although the volume buttons’ primary function is to control the volume of his voice).

- He has no good reason for taking this thing home. It weights a ton, it’s awkwardly naked, except for some bandages wrapped around it, which do nothing to hide how anatomically correct this robot is, and he already has a phone charger, so he really has no use for it. 

- He feels weird about it though. While he was checking out the ears, he touched its face and the skin was soft and warm. He checked for a pulse, just out of curiosity, and found one. It looks like a person, aside from the ears, and it feels like a person. He feels bad leaving it in the trash. So he takes it home.

- Cue comedy routine where he gets this thing, not just in the house, but to his room without Fuyumi noticing.

- Once in his room, he hits the power switch. Nothing happens. He holds the power switch. Bingo. Robo-boy powers to life, bright, adorably large green eyes open. He’s holding it in his arms, and it’s still all tied up. It looks up at him and says hello.

- He drops it.

- He apologizes as he picks it back up, tugging at the wrappings to try to get its arms free. He realizes he needs to get pants, or at least boxers, for it, because it’s awake now and very much naked.

- For the very first time, he realizes that this adorable, thin-yet-lean-muscled, between 14-16 looking robo-boy might have been someone’s weird sex doll. They probably threw it away because they found a real person to date and they didn’t want them to know about their underage sex robot. This also sort of explains the pulse; the mystery pervert person probably programmed a fake pulse and did something to make his skin warm, to make him feel more real. Gross.

- He’s broken from these thoughts when the robot speaks. It says, “Please insert memory bank files or turn on base memory.” Todoroki is already freaking out, because this thing wants its memories, and he doesn’t have them. He opens the ear again and investigates. Next to the empty slot, there’s a small button labeled BM. Base memory? Sure, why not. He pushes it.

- The robot goes blank faced for a few seconds. When he comes to, he looks at Todoroki, then the room, then down at himself. He flexes his arms, trying to break the bands around him, but stops, saying, “Safety mode is on.”

- Todoroki finishes helping unwrap him, awkwardly doing so while pointedly looking away, once he gets to his lower half. Once he’s free, he goes and gets a pair of boxers and throws them in his direction. “Can you put them on?” He’s curious if the robot can do something like that unaided, and also he doesn’t want to cloth it himself, because even though this is a robot, it looks like a very cute boy his age. And it has a pulse. He can’t stop thinking about that.

- The robot puts on the boxers, after inspecting them for a second. He honestly does struggle to figure it out for a moment, cause he has zero common sense, but he does figure it out. It probably takes him about a minute. Once they’re on, he stands and starts inspecting the room.

- “Do you have a name?” seems like a dumb question, but he asks anyway and the robot answers, “I’m Project Midoriya.”

- Background info time. Midoriya is not fully a robot. He was kidnapped just seven months ago, coming home from school. It was the day of the sludge villain attack, but he got nabbed before they could cross paths. AFO wanted a quirkless person to experiment on. He did his research and found Midoriya Izuku, a quirkless boy with no friends and little family, who wouldn’t be missed very much. He’s confident enough that he won’t get caught that he titles his new project by its name: Midoriya. Midoriya’s memories are still in his mind, but they’re suppressed. AFO found it easier to backup his memories to a chip, so he could remove them as needed. When they were installed, Midoriya responded best to his own name anyway, so calling him that was also the easiest thing. Without his memories, AFO found him a bit annoying, because he had no social skills or common sense. He needed to be taught, which he didn’t have the patience for, so usually he just left the memories in. He was a timid boy anyway and easy to intimidate, especially if he threaten to hurt his mom.

- The cops figure his disappearance was maybe a runaway situation, but given his track record and the profile on him they’d compiled from listening to his mom, classmates, and teachers, they figure it’s more likely a kidnapping or murder. Fun fact though, he got kidnapped the day Bakugou told him to kill himself. Obviously no body is found, but he knows people go to forests to hang themselves, or put weights in their pockets and drown themselves. Those bodies can take years to find. So while all of this is happening, Bakugou is out there just every day, “what have I done, what have I done, what have I done?” When they finally see each other again, Bakugou freaks out and Midoriya’s suppressed memories are triggered. Bakugou demands answers, Todoroki is confused and defensive, and Midoriya is just, “System overload. Shutting down,” and then face plants to the floor.

- Anyway, back to Shouto. He asks Midoriya if he remembers anything. Midoriya has exactly one memory (or at least, one easily accessible memory), and it’s this: “A man. He looked like this.” He put his hand over his face. “He said, ‘Sensei put so much work into you. Why are you so useless (Deku)?’”

- More bg info, AFO gave Midoriya to Shigaraki, telling him to try to make him useful, and Shigaraki DID try for a couple of months, but he was over the whole situation after basically one day. With his memories, Midoriya was scared and traumatized, had morals, cried a bunch and sometimes tried to escape, and was just UGH. He could mute his voice, but even that didn’t help, cause this kid was just sooo annoying. Without his memories he was awkward and boring and still annoying. Eventually he just yeeted him into a trash heap, but took his memory chip, since it technically contains LoV information.

- Midoriya considers his only memory and thinks being called Deku feels sort of normal, so he says as much. “Deku might also be my name. You can call me that, if you want.” Todoroki says he’ll stick with Midoriya, because Deku isn’t a nice name for his new robot friend.

- So the first section of the story after this is fairly light-hearted. Todoroki has to keep Midoriya a secret from Endeavor and Fuyumi (I feel like she does find out eventually, but agrees to help hide him, as she sees it’s good for her little bro to finally have this (maybe?) living thing/person to talk to and take care of.) Speaking of care, Midoriya is very easy to care for. He can eat, drink, and sleep, but doesn’t need to. He has some sort of self-charging system. Most of his “care” involves teaching him social skills (which oof, blind leading the blind, but they say teaching is the best way to learn, so this is actually good for Shouto too). Embarrassing stuff happens. Fluffy stuff happens. It’s a good time.

- Shouto spends the summer with Midoriya this way. Most of their interactions are fluffy and light, but not all. The first time he comes back to his room after training with his dad, he learns two things: Midoriya has first aid knowledge programmed into him and he’s capable of crying. As the trainings continue, Midoriya eventually reveals that he has over a hundred fighting styles programmed into him and knows over 70 ways to kill a person, but he can’t access any of that information while his safety is on. Todoroki is just like, “Uuuuuh, that’s really good to know…but we’re gonna keep the safety on for now, okay? I hate my dad but also please don’t murder him. He’s famous so we wouldn’t get away with it. Also murder is bad, don’t kill people.”

- Midoriya wants to know if all heroes are like Endeavor and Shouto is like, noooo and shows him the debut video of his personal favorite hero: All Might. Watching this video is the first time Midoriya has a “System overloading. Shutting down” moment. Shouto has an absolute panic attack, because if Midoriya reboots and his memories are wiped, then he’ll have lost the best friend he ever had. But Midoriya restarts and he’s fine. He explains that sometimes he shuts down, to prevent a system failure, which would damage his…idk, hard drive or whatever. He quietly admits that the All Might video is very familiar, and he thinks maybe it used to be important to him. Shouto questions him about his memories and Midoriya theorizes that perhaps he has them backed up, but he isn’t sure how to access them. 

- This is exciting for Shouto, because he thinks maybe if Midoriya experiences more “triggers,” like the video, he might regain his memories and be able to shed some light on the general mystery of where he came from/who made him/what his purpose is. Whenever Endeavor is away, he tries to sneak Midoriya out, so he can see the real world. He isn’t too concerned about his ears, because in a world of quirks, there are plenty of odd looking people around. So far he’s been wearing Todoroki’s clothes, which a little too big on him, so they go shopping and get him clothes. None of their outings seem to trigger anything, except one time when they pass a park where Midoriya and Bakugou used to play as kids. Midoriya grows quiet and seems far away for a moment, but he doesn’t overload and shakes off the familiar feeling.

- Whenever they see All Might stuff he’s just !!!!!!! He can’t remember why he likes All Might, but he remembers how he feels about him. The more All Might stuff he sees, the more his old feelings return. One day they pass a large All Might poster and Midoriya says, “I think maybe I wanted to be like him, once.”

- Eventually Todoroki starts school. He feels bad about leaving him, but Midoriya is content to stay in his room and occupy himself until Todoroki comes home. He’s part computer, so he’s a total boss at helping with math homework. He likes doing homework with Todoroki in general, because he likes learning. This is great for Todoroki’s grades because again, the teaching thing helps everything stick better for him. 

- The attack on USJ happens and Todoroki sees Shigaraki, who has a hand on his face, and he’s like, “Shit, shit, shit, this is the guy who threw away Midoriya,” and he has NO idea what to do with that information. Midoriya belonging to the LoV does explain the “70+ ways to kill” programming though. He tells Midoriya what happened and Midoriya is kind of whatever about it. He says, “Maybe I belonged to villains, but I belong to you, now.” And Shouto is like, “No, no, no, no. You do not. You belong to yourself” and Midoriya is just ????

- I think for the Sports Festival, Midoriya convinces him to use his fire. It’s sort of like, “It’s your power, even though its origin is Endeavor. Just like how everything I can do is my power, even though I was programmed by villains. Being made by villains doesn’t make me a villain. Using the resources they gave me doesn’t make me a villain. Being Endeavor’s son doesn’t make you Endeavor, and using your fire doesn’t either.” Todoroki turns off Midoriya’s safety, confident he has nothing to fear.

- Midoriya watches the Sports Festival on tv (using his blutooth, he can actually just hear the volume in his head, so he can watch silently). He sees Bakugou. Seeing him on screen doesn’t have a huge impact on him, but he does feel something. Fear, unease, admiration, and affection. He’s confused and uncomfortable, and ends up looking away from the screen whenever he’s shown for too long.

- Shouto actually starts making friends at school. Being with Midoriya has taught him a lot about being kind and the joy having other people in your life can bring. Still, he doesn’t trust anyone enough to tell them about Midoriya. He’s terrified of losing him.

- For the Hosu incident, Midoriya is home alone, probably doing something on Shouto’s laptop. He sees the breaking news and is just, “Welp, that’s where Shouto, the official best person in the world, is, so guess I’m going to Hosu to make sure he’s safe.” He leaves the house alone, for the first time ever, and just runs to Hosu. Idk how far away Hosu is from the Todoroki residence, but Midoriya doesn’t fatigue and he’s also outrageously fast, so it’s fine. Also he can see in the dark, but only if he activates his night vision, which makes his eyes glow. Not good for sneaking, but very pretty and cool. I’m not sure how he finds Shouto, or how Shouto found Iida, but I imagine Stain is like, seconds from skewering him and then Midoriya comes out of nowhere and collides with Stain (which is a big deal, cause remember, Midoriya is filled with metal parts and is super heavy). They fight together and at some point Stain cuts Midoriya and he bleeds, which for Shouto is like !?!??! And then he licks his blood and the paralysis works and Shouto is just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Later, after the life threatening stuff is over, Todoroki has some seriously thoughts about this, because what if Midoriya is human? Or part human? That would be a huge development, and also kind of relief for him, because he sort of feels like he’s been falling in love, but he’s been desperately stomping down on those feelings, because he knows falling in love with a robot probably isn’t healthy. But falling in love with a half robot? I mean, Iida could be called part robot, with his legs, if you want to get technical about it. And Todoroki does want to get technical about it, thank you very much. If Iida is dateable, then so is Midoriya.

- Back to Hosu. They beat Stain and, after securing him, Todoroki tells Midoriya to go home, before his dad arrives. Once he leaves, he begs Iida not to tell anyone he saw him and promises to explain later. For ease of narrative, Native was unconscious the entire fight.

- Endeavor shows up, as does the Nomu. It takes Shouto but Stain rescues him. At the hospital, Todoroki explains the Midoriya situation to Iida, revealing that this incident was the first time he realized Midoriya had blood in him. Iida agrees to keep the secret, but urges Todoroki to tell someone. Maybe Aizawa. He agrees to consider, but he doesn’t want Midoriya to get taken away and like, locked up to be studied or something. He and Iida become better friends, bonding over almost dying together and sharing the secret of Midoriya. 

- Midterms! Shouto scores higher because he has an awesome robot tutor. He doesn’t actually care, but good for him regardless.

- Summer field trip time. Midoriya can’t come, obviously. I’m thinking during this time, he decides to sneak out of the house and explore on his own. He feels guilty, because Shouto would worry if he knew, but he just feels this draw. He feels like maybe his old memories were important, and he’s becoming curious. He keeps thinking about the boy from the Sports Festival and about All Might. He ends up in his old neighborhood. He sees his middle school and he doesn’t remember anything, but seeing the building makes him feel lonely and sort of bad about himself. It reminds him of Shigaraki calling him Deku, and the familiar feeling that gave him. He leaves and finds himself on his old street. He isn’t close at all to his old home - he can barely see the apartment building - but he can still see it. He almost shuts down, but turns away quickly and starts back the way he came. He doesn’t remember anything, but seeing that building fills him with overwhelming emotions. The strongest one reminds him of his feelings for Shouto, but it’s different. He can’t place it, but he knows he’d die to protect Shouto, and he feels like maybe he once knew someone in that building that he would also die to protect. Once he gets home, he realizes he’s crying. He decides to sleep and he dreams of green eyes and a smile that looks like home.

- Shouto is injured during the villain attack and goes to the hospital. Once he’s released, he agrees with Kirishima that they’ll go rescue Bakugou. That whole thing pretty much goes at it did in canon, except All Might never found a successor, so he’s more powerful. He defeats AFO and does not have to retire, though he’s feeling an overwhelming pressure to find a successor now, because he knows he’s hanging on by a thread.

- Dorms!! Shouto is bringing his boy with him. He figures he can hide him just as easily there as he can at home. Getting him in is a little tricky, but he manages. From there, it’s smooth sailing.

- Except not really, because living with 18-19 other people (19 if Hitoshi is in the class, which, maybe) is way different than living with 2. Midoriya is discovered in like, a week and everyone is freaking out, most of all Bakugou, who basically breaks down. He tries to hit Midoriya and screams at him, about thinking he was dead and going to his funeral and how it was his fault and having to face his mom and did Midoriya even think about his mom??? As previously mentioned, Midoriya just shuts down and face plants to the ground.

- Shouto finally learns Midoriya’s full name. Midoriya Izuku. A+ name. Very cute. He plans to use it immediately.

- Bakugou’s insight changes the situation completely. Now they know Izuku was once 100% human and something awful happened to him. They end up bringing him to Aizawa and explaining the situation and everything they know. Todoroki gets scolded, cause Izuku could have been dangerous and he should have known better, but he doesn’t even pretend to have regrets. Endeavor would have made him throw Izuku back into the trash where he found him. His best friend isn’t trash.

- Now the name of the game is helping Izuku restore his memories. Bakugou is a huge help, but patience is required, to keep Izuku from overloading. He remembers bits and pieces at a time, all centered around Bakugou. Aizawa agrees to let him attend classes, so they can keep an eye on him. He’s also hoping a school setting might trigger more memories. He meets All Might and he doesn’t even get to announce his system malfunction before he’s out. He sees him, starts smoking at the mouth and hits the floor. All Might is very alarmed.

- Tsukauchi is made aware of the situation. He wants to keep things under wraps though. If the LoV is aware Midoriya is out and about, they may target him. If they can restore his memories though, they may gain insight into the group’s plans. That being said, he thinks it’s only right that they tell Inko. They tell her they have information on her son and make her sign a contract, agreeing not to release any information. Once she agrees, they brief her on what they know and, at the end, bring in Izuku.

- Izuku has been talking with Bakugou about his mom, to prepare for this (he usually wants Shouto with him for these conversations, and Shouto and Bakugou sort on inadvertently become friends). He can’t remember her at all, but he remembers the face in his dream. He knows it’s her. While talking, he’s shut down a few times (which drives Bakugou up the wall, and also scares him a little, cause he kind of looks dead when it happens), but he thinks he might be ready to see her now. He’s brought in and he does not shut down, not fully, but he comes close. He definitely glitches a little, maybe doing a quick reboot, quick enough that he doesn’t even fall, and his voice comes out cracked and metallic when he speaks, and there are sparks in his mouth, but he manages, “Mom?” They both cry and she holds him while he tells her, voice wavering between sounding normal and sounding robotic, that he doesn’t remember her, but he loves her, he knows he loves her so so much and he knows he’s missed her, even though he didn’t know who she was. It’s very emotional, and extremely hard for both of them when they finally have to separate, because Izuku can’t go home with her. She’s allowed to visit though, and each visit helps him restore little pieces of his memory. Between her and Bakugou, he starts making enough progress that he stops shutting down when he gains a new memory, and he starts remembering his old hopes and dreams. He doesn’t remember what AFO did to him, but he remembers enough of his past to feel self-conscious now, about his body. He breaks down one day and Shouto holds him while he grapples with his identity, his humanity, and his future. 

- I’m picturing a scene where he’s crying and Shouto takes his face in his hands and explains all the beautiful things about him that make him human, and he finishes up with something corny like, “I know you, Izuku. You’re human. You have to be human, because I’m in love with you.” And then they KISS and it is ROMANTIC!

- He decides he still wants to be a hero and he becomes a real member of 1A, instead of just a visitor. The whole class helps him design a costume and come up with a name and in general are just like, “Cyborg Hero, yay!!”

- And that’s all I got. I think eventually he would fight the league, and probably retrieve his chip, giving him 100% of his memories. There’s a LOT of trauma to deal with there, because he was basically torn apart and put back together several times by AFO, but they do gain all the information they need to take down the LoV for good. And the Overhaul arc is in there. Izuku might still intern with Nighteye, because All Might is like, “Robot successor? Maybe???” and he wants Nighteye’s opinion. Nighteye can’t see his future, because he’s not fully human, but eventually he gives his stamp of approval. Eri is rescued and that’s a very personal fight for Izuku, because he identifies with what she’s gone through. And of course she loves him and thinks his ears are cute and his glowy eyes are pretty.

- Oh, and the School Festival. I honestly don’t even know what to do with him. He can learn any instrument just by like, downloading some YouTube tutorial videos. He can learn any dance by watching it once. He’s really strong, really fast, and can also operate as a speaker (though that can be awkward, cause it’s through his mouth, so he’d just be standing there with his mouth open). They might keep his role same as canon, idk. They’d probably all fight over him.

- I’m sure none of this was anything like Chobits. Sorry. I just think the ears are neat, really, and liked the idea of Izuku being a cyborg (Chobits isn’t even about cyborgs, lol).

like I'm at work, and sometimes if there aren't any customers or things to write on the pc, there's just fanfic in my mind 'hm *Ethan doing mundane stuff I do at home - or teaching Rose how to play piano* ah yes happy hcs ♥' or 'enough of Ethan survived and was picked up by the Connections bc Lucas told them about him and/or their mole in the BSAA found out his moldy status and now Rose is going to find him while on a completely unrelated mission and they've experimented on him and hurt him so much during all these years she thought him dead (I need the whump (ʘ‿ʘ✿) ), she could barely recognise him, it was only bc of the emotion in his eyes when he looked at her and when he tries to whisper her name (and ofc the mold itself probably screaming at her that's Daddy!!) and she well she rains absolute hell on them and brings down the entire facility - chris being disturbed is a must, he understands why she did it but also serves as a nice reminder of how powerful she is and how much she loves her dad and how far she'll go for him ok just like that agent said 'you're a lot like him, you know?' (did this guy know Ethan or just heard about him? why say 'today of all days', was it a special date, what about? they both know chris (and she's not v happy w him) so whats with the sniper? i have questions! capcommm! these years of waiting - also i need sleep rn)

Oh, yeah. Like Ethan's a pretty simple character, he doesn't really need much to work as he does, but the things he does are so in sync with what I like.

Like on my first watch of a playthrough, at first I was both "He seems kinda boring lol" and "Aw poor dude. Don't worry Ethan, we're in this together. But your screams of pain ARE kinda doing it for me..." at the same time XD It was through his continuous refusal to give a shit and to accept he's in a horror game and through his love for Rose that moved him forward that took me from liking him straight into loving the shit out of him.

Coming up with fic ideas during boring work hours is a must. How else are we gonna spend our time? XD Ethan teaching Rose how to play the piano 🥺🥺 Im lov. I want this, sweet moments between a daughter and the father who fought like hell to save her ����😭 But this:

I'd honestly love to see how Rose grows up to see Chris as. She says to that agent "I can show you things even Chris doesn't know I can do" so Chris knows a lot, and is supposed to be the guy who knows THE most about Rose, at least when it comes to her mold powers. And I'd really like to see the dynamic of those two.

About that agent, I've heard the theory that he was one of the guys who gave Ethan military training before re8. Otherwise, if he's just heard about Ethan, it doesn't make too much sense, because it's different to get to know a person and to just hear stuff about them. Or maybe Ethan's story became a BIG thing in whatever team they've got going on (I'm guessing it's not BSAA) and he knows a lot of stuff about him. He says "Today of all days" because it looks like it's Ethan's birthday. Like Rose says "Sorry I missed last week" when she puts the flowers down on his grave, but I don't know if that means that she missed his birthday which was last week, or if she missed her weekly visit to his grave, and the day she went happened to be his birthday.

And about the sniper, I'm pretty sure they're afraid of her. I don't think them having a sniper on her was approved by Chris - in fact, I have a theory that her working with that agent is happening completely behind Chris' back, like Chris has a team training Rose and this guy is with them and secretly working with her, perhaps because he's a Connections/BSAA mole and they want to use her or something - but in any case they probably think she may get uncontrollable and unpredictable, so they're having a failsafe in case she tries something. Super creepy, by the way. But it's also an awesome sequel hook, as soon as I saw it I was like "So Rose for protagonist on re9, right? Is it coming tomorrow or what??"

DabiTwiceWeek day 6, proposal

(Doing the spoiler dance with this one, so beware because you're gonna be spoiled oop) ((also headcannons because hey, we don't know any outcome of the manga yet)) (((this came out longer then expected so enjoy lol)))

Dabi knew that when he and Twice kissed for the first time that he wanted to be with him forever. Even just standing shoulder to shoulder was so intimate for him from years of abuse. The fact that he let Twice hang onto him really said something about how he felt. He felt like he could be his own self around him, and he felt so safe doing so.

And when he thought that Twice was dead, he felt everything crumble around him. When he and the remaining survivors of the LOV were arrested, he just wanted to die in jail. As if the disappointed looks that Fuyumi would flash at him whenever she visited weren't painful enough, he didn't have his other half with him.

Fuyumi was visiting again today. He watched her texting someone on the other side of the glass. He missed the shit out of her, and he felt like he was being sucker punched whenever she looked at him. Finally, she looked back up and set her phone down. She took a deep breath before speaking up.

"Sorry, I was doing something for work," she sighed, "You getting beat up in here?"

"Yeah," Dabi was desperate to get her to laugh, "You could probably do worse though if this glass wasn't between us."

She smirked. It wasn't a laugh, but it was something, "Wanna see if I can break it?"

Dabi shook his head, "I'm good sis."

She laughed lightly. For once, a comfortable silence sat between them. Fuyumi went back to her phone for a few minutes before shock filled her eyes.

"What," Dabi leaned foward.

"One of your little buddies is in the hospital," Fuyumi looked back up.

Suddenly, the room started to spin. Dabi thought he was going to throw up, cry, and jump for joy at the same time, "Who?"

"Jin Bubaigawara."

"Take me to him!"

"What," Fuyumi gasped, "I cant just sign you out Touya!"

"Sure you can! Just tell them I'll wear these anti quirk cuffs and take me to see him! Please sis! I have to see him!"

Fuyumi bit her lip, "I don't know..."

"I'll do anything," Dabi felt like they were kids again and Fuyumi was threatening to tell on him after he 'accidentally' kicked her.

"Like go to therapy?"

"Only if you go too."

"Shut up," Fuyumi stood up, "I'll go talk to someone, maybe throw in dad's name to pressure them."

"Don't forget to fake cry, you've always been good good at that!"

Fuyumi flipped him off before leaving.

Dabi always knew his sister was twisted in some way. Before he knew it, they were pulling up in front of the hospital that Jin was at. He nearly jumped out of the car and ran inside to get him.

Fuyumi and him walked in and before the woman at the front desk could say anything about Dabi, Fuyumi spoke up.

"Hi, Jin Bubaigawara?"

"Room 3H," the woman wouldn't stop staring at Dabi.

Fuyumi quickly pulled him away and went into the elevator. As soon as the doors closed, they each let out a breath they were holding. Dabi looked over at Fuyumi who was anxiously fiddling with her shirt.

"Thanks Yumi," Dabi bumped his shoulder against her, "You're the best."

Fuyumi smiled up at him, "I missed getting into trouble with you."

Before he said anything else, the doors opened up. His mind went blank and Fuyumi practically had to steer him in the right direction. Before he knew it, they were in front of Jin. He was asleep and attached to so many wires.

"I'll leave you two alone," Fuyumi patted his back before going to sit down.

Dabi walked in and sat in a chair next to the bed. He couldn't believe that Jin was still alive. He was all stitched up, and his heart beat was perfect. He still looked so, fucking good.

Dabi reached out and held Jin's hand, "Hey buddy, glad to see you're okay. I know you're asleep now I just....I just wish that you were awake right now. You look great by the way, I'm sorry for burning you. But hey, now we can twin."

"We're all in prison now. I'm able to see the guys but Himiko was sent to the woman's prison. I'm terrified for her, but there's this one guard who updates us about her. She's safe for now. The gangs just not complete without you," Dabi ruffled Jin's hair.

"I'm sorry man," Dabi kissed his hand, "I should have gone with you. You wouldn't be in this situation if I was. I love you so much, I cant wait for you to wake up. I love you, I love your alter, you both complete me, and I never thought I deserve that. I still don't."

"I wanna marry you. Being with you forever is everything thing I want. You're smart, funny, kind," Dabi used his free hand to rub Jin's face, "You're handsome. I just love everything about you. I don't know how we're gonna do it, but we're gonna be together forever. I can't wait."

Dabi stood up, "Anyway, I have to get going. I'll see you soon Jin."

Dabi gave his hand one last squeeze before walking away. He was just about to walk out the door when-

"Yes," Jin groaned from the bed, "I'll marry you."

Dabi whirled around and when he saw Jin smiling at him, he nearly broke down. He ran over to his bed and held his face.

"Oh my God, Jin," Dabi held him, "How much did you hear?"

"Everything," Jin tried to hug him back.

"You shit head," Dabi laughed.

"I wanna propose too though," Jin said.

Dabi sat back down, "Go for it."

Jin held his hand and squeezed it, "Dabi-"

"It's Touya. Touya Todoroki."

"Touya," Jin smiled, "Will you marry me?"

Dabi spang forward and kissed him, "Of course! I love you Jin!"

Dabi ended up staying much later, and for once, his smile was genuine, and he missed this feeling so much.

I think what gets people about Hawks is he’s a planner- and we’re so used to merely reacting heros. There’s always the chance when you strike first that you’ll strike wrong, but the alternative is waiting until it’s too late. And isn’t that one of the huge issues people have with heros? That they were too slow and didn’t save someone who needed it? Hawks is ruthless and it’s terrifying to be on the receiving end if that. But he’s been the hero a lot of people needed

Oh my god, this.....this is a really good interpretation of him. I really like how you think of Hawks! I’ve never really thought of it that way.

I’m gonna ramble about this ask for a while, so I’ll try to put a brief answer above the read more cut. I love how you pointed out what people need/expect from heroes in terms of how they respond. The consequences of a villain attack (property damage, casualties, displacement) are what gives fuel to criticism, and heroes can’t really excuse themselves from those results because those consequences are not to be taken lightly and heroes took on the responsibility of minimizing impact. 

It’s the whole thing about “thoughts and prayers”. Pretty words after a tragedy don’t matter because they change nothing. What really matters is action—preventative measures. And that’s how Hawks approaches hero work. Preventing matters and quick resolutions to minimize impact.

And yes, Hawks’ kind of heroism is what people need in a general sense. Meticulous hard work focused around preventing villain attacks or stopping them as fast as possible. But the intensity with which Hawks goes about it is really scary—you’re right to call it ruthless. And that’s normally a good thing until you call morality into question.

I don’t really want to delve into whether his actions are right or wrong, because.....well, it’s complicated. You can’t slap a label on it. And in the high-stakes world of heroism, morality is a pretty ironic thing to emphasize. Heroes act for the “greater good”, but does that really give them the right to kill? And vice versa—is it okay to risk millions of lives for the sake of adhering to a wishy-washy ideal of no dead?

Let’s go with this: morality is meaningless. Life isn’t dictated by black and white—society is. What life is about is choices and consequences—what you choose to do and what happens because of it. (More on morality under the cut)

I tried to keep it short, but it’s still a pretty lengthy answer. Sorry about that. Anyway, under the read more I’m gonna go ramble because anon just ignited the analytics in my head. Maybe check it out, ‘cause I talk a little more about what I think of Hawks under the cut.

The difference between heroes who react (Endeavor, Miruko, etc.) versus heroes who plan (Hawks, Nighteye, etc.) isn’t something I really thought too much on. But that’s a really good way to look at heroes! In Nighteye’s case, I’d say the guy waits too much and he could possible have past incidents that would fit what you’re talking about—waiting too long until it’s too late. All Might could be interpreted as a mix of both, depending on how you look at it, but his “planning” is more an abstract ideal—establishing a Symbol of Peace that discourages crime rates.

Hawks NEVER waits. And that’s the reason why the PLF raid occurred with the heroes taking the INITIATIVE, a big contrast in comparison with other incidents in the manga. In regards to the Kamino Nightmare, UA took precautions but they fell through and the heroes reacted quickly against the LoV to get Bakugo back once they had sufficient data and forces. But later, we see this decision is touched on a little by the HPSC president when she talks about Hawks not being available for Kamino, and how heroes have been trailing after villains’ actions because no one has been doing enough intelligence gathering in advance. 

Hero society isn’t doing enough to PREVENT villain attacks. And well, that’s a big bone to gnaw on. 

We can talk about the very basics—preventing villains from being born in the first place. But that’s too expansive a task, and heroes/government can’t foresee or prevent everything. Not to mention how complicated implementing those measures will get when you start tangling with law. (If you’re from a massive country with a complicated lawmaking system and polarizing political parties, you’ll know what I mean.) 

Then if we focus on something closer to immediate—say, intelligence gathering—that gets a little murky, too. Censorship, surveillance, regulatory laws—until where do we draw the line? When do we consider those preventative measures “oppression”? People will have different opinions of that, and that’ll result in debate and gridlock. 

There’s also cultural issues—how do you mass edit a society’s perception of certain things? 

We had the issue of “villanous quirks” brought up with Shinsou and Toga. Can you change everyone’s mindsets to regard quirks as a natural gene people can’t help but be born with? In contrast, at what point do you need to start considering the evil that could be done by a quirk on the basis of self-defense? (Think about it. If someone had a quirk that made you forget being under its influence, then how would you know when to change from trusting that person to questioning them for your own protection?) 

We also have the issue of quirklessness with Midoriya and Melissa, though I don’t think it’s that complicated. How do you equalize quirks and no-quirks? In contrast, when do you need to discriminate? (It’s the dilemma of equality. Physical requirements for men and women differ because of natural differences in their makeup. It’s fair, but it’s not equal. A minor thing to point out, but you get the idea, right? If you want to take it up a notch, consider the notion of “equal opportunity”. In America, there’s a whole debate about how to raise disadvantaged groups to equal standing without compromising the ones who are already there. Especially in education. There’s this thing about “quotas” in college admissions—colleges can’t set aside a specific number of spots for disadvantaged groups because it will take away opportunities for the rest, but they can include those questions in their applications for a “holistic” process. However, it’s not a full fix. There’s still a disproportionate ratio of minority groups because it doesn’t take into account the minority background: growing up in unsafe/unequipped communities, lacking academic resources or education to compete with those of advantageous groups, family backgrounds that influence the kid’s education because of extra responsibilities, poverty, uneducated parents, cultural stigma, etc. It’s a huge, complex web of a problem that a small rule like that can’t fully encompass.)

Oh god, I got political. But you get what I mean. There’s too big of a mess that heroes/government won’t be able to address every single one of them. So, what they’ll need to do is figure out what they can do and implement it, or figure out which aspect/measure to focus energy and resources on first.

In regards to morality, I answered a previous ask about Hawks and said this:

Sacrificing another person’s life isn’t okay, period, because you never had the right/power to determine another person’s worth in the first place.

I still stick by that, but there’s something I want to make clear about what I think about Hawks. Hawks is free to choose the “wrong” decision. I’m not condoning or condemning him for it. Hell, I’m not even judging him. The way I read My Hero Academia is by watching the characters make their decisions and trying to understand what led to them. I feel like that’s something everyone should try out: just watching the characters, not judging them, but just trying to understand.

Again, morality means nothing. It’s just choices and consequences.

The thing about choices is, you should understand everything about them. And that’s what I want Hawks to build on. If he’s going to make a decision—especially a “wrong” one—then I want him to fully understand the weight of that choice. I feel like Hawks could be desensitized to the weight of life, and that’s what I’m worried about. Then again, we don’t really know a lot about what Hawks feels aside from his expressions and double-meaning dialogue. I could be wrong—Hawks could have a solid grasp on what taking a life means and feel somber remorse over it. But who knows? (I’ll love him even more than I do now if he does understand. God, I love this asshole of a bird.)

Basically, this is what I want Hawks’ approach to Twice’s death to be: it’s wrong, and he’s okay with it. He’ll willingly carry the weight of his choice so he can achieve his dream of a society without an excessive dependence on heroes.

That’s basically Hawks’ whole character. What is he willing to carry in order to achieve his goals? How far will he corrupt himself to get peace for everyone else? (Honestly, the martyr complex is hard with this guy hahaha!) I just want to make sure he seriously understands what he’s “corrupting” himself with.

Okay kind of a heated question but why did so many people started throwing hate towards Toga with this chapter? I mean they did started throwing such in previous chapters, bit why so much in this chapter??? I mean i know that the majority of these people are just haters who want her dead, some who say that deku was nerfed for the plot and quite a few that are in a shipping war but i can't understand any other reason of why they throw so much hate.

Well definitely disregarding the troll who is represent sending the same shit to everyone about how Toga needs to die or whatever, and disregarding the shipping war—the only thing I personally have seen is people thinking Toga’s character has changed and suddenly started acting OOC or something for the sake of including Midoriya in the plot.

I disagree with that because I always always always expected Toga to confront Ochacko AGAIN after the war arc, AND somehow come to some sort of terms with Midoriya and Tsuyu alongside that. The only difference now to me is that Midoriya and Toga probably won’t reach friendly terms until closer to the end.

I think people were just taken by surprise that Midoriya was thrown into the Toga plot, which is fair to be surprised by, but also Toga has been seeking out Midoriya the entiiiiiiire story. This is not new. So her roping him into the Toga/Ochacko conflict is absolutely well within the set up from previous chapters.

But even with Midoriya getting thrown into it, I never expected the role to be taken from Ochacko. But I think people were upset about that possibility. But low and behold, Midoriya has fled the scene and now it’s up to Ochacko and Tsuyu.

I also think people were hoping for Toga to go seek out vengeance against Hawks, and are disappointed that she instead has chosen to focus on the heroes whose attention she’s been trying to get since she met them. And I’ve already voiced why I very very much did not like the revenge plot. THAT would have been wildly OOC to me. So I’m really glad it doesn’t seem (key word—shit could still hit the fan) like it’s going that way. I just don’t see how it would resolve or tie anything together. So I’m hoping things continue on this path. But I’ve seen people upset about that too.

I also think Toga is a bit harder for people to understand if you’re just reading this manga for fun and aren’t necessarily trying to dissect it and find underlying meanings in everything (like I and many others are lol). Toga is straight forward but also not. She’s convoluted in the way she asks for help, so it’s not entirely within the fault of Midoriya and Ochacko to kind of miss her point at first. That’s why it takes both sides working it out. Not just the hero kids, not just the LOV—BOTH have to talk and use their words. The responsibility doesn’t lie on one side. And I think Toga’s motivations and reasonings kind of fly over peoples heads. Which is fine because it will be crystal clear when her and Ochacko come to an understanding and work together in the end.

But yeah the Toga hate is wack. Idk what two ships are at war here (I can imagine one of them is IzuOcha but what is the other lmao) but that’s a dumb reason to hate Toga. I promise she isn’t gonna steal the main character lol. Anyway—that’s all I can think of.

BnHA Chapter 287: Family Reunion

Previously on BnHA: The Tomura For One VS Deku And Pals clusterfuck reached new levels of clustfuckery as AFO possessed Tomura’s body and stabbed Kacchan and Endeavor. Shouto was all “good thing I leveled up offscreen so as to be able to fly around whilst carrying 400lbs worth of people”, and did just that and it was like, damn, son. Meanwhile Deku’s rage went Mach 100, and he kicked Tomura’s ass for almost two whole seconds, but in the process he apparently forgot that IF TOMURA TOUCHES HIM THAT IS VERY BAD, and so he stupidly let Tomura touch him and Tomura was all “GAME, SET.” Fortunately for Deku, his quirk plays by its own rules, and so the chapter ended with us cutting to the METAPHYSICAL OFA/AFO PARANORMAL DREAMSCAPE OF MYSTICAL BULLSHIT, where AFO!Vestige was all “lol Tomura y u mad”, and Nana!Vestige was all “SUP DEKU, YOU’RE JUST IN TIME, LOOKS LIKE IT’S ASSKICKING O’CLOCK.” I’m paraphrasing a bit, but that’s more or less the gist of it.

Today on BnHA: AFO is all “well if it isn’t Tomura’s grandmother who I murdered that one time”, and Deku is all “?”, and AFO is all “fucking vestiges, man, wild”, and Deku is all “??”, and AFO is all “ANYWAYS GETTIM TOMURA”, and OFA is all “NOT SO FAST”, and Deku is all “???”, and really, same. AFO then goes off on some wild tangent about how Deku is unworthy because he couldn’t protect everyone and needed help from OFA and got mad about his friends being stabbed, which is such a cold take it gave me hypothermia, but it ends up not mattering since Deku and Tomura both wake up seconds later with OFA still in the possession of its rightful owner, HOW ABOUT THAT. The chapter ends with the LoV approaching on Gigantomachia’s back with Dabi practically salivating at the mouth, and Toga trying to reignite an old fandom blood feud. Toga why would you do this to me. Toga.

like, it’s just crazy to me that because the heroes are all “we want to protect everyone!” but then aren’t always able to do so because that’s literally impossible, whereas the villains are all “we don’t care about anyone other than the select few people that we actually like!”, the villains somehow wind up getting the better PR. it just so happens that it’s infinitely easier to be loyal to the interests of a few people as opposed to ALL THE PEOPLE. like, no shit, it’s easier to stick to your moral code when you barely have a moral code. and so the villains can kill thousands and no one bats an eye, but if a hero fails to save even one person they’re hypocritical moral failures. like what the hell

"I don't understand why you can't just play with Spinner," says Dabi. "I'm probably gonna suck at this."

"Never know until you try," says Shigaraki, starting the game up. "Besides, I trust your abilities. And even if you do suck, it'll be nice to spend time together for once." 

Dabi nods. "Fair enough." Since joining the Paranormal Liberation Front, their moments alone had been few and far between because of Dabi's habit of isolating himself when stressed and all of Tomura's new responsibilities. "What's this one called again?"

"Minecraft. It's pretty simple. You just try not to die and make stuff." He grabs his remote, prosthetic fingers clacking on the plastic. "Basic controls: mine, place, motion, direction, crafting menu, pause, map, jump," he says, pointing at various controls.

Dabi nods, catching about half of the instructions. "Yeah, okay. Uh...die how?"

"Just zombies and stuff. You'll figure it out." He quickly makes a world in normal mode instead of hard, per Dabi's request, named "my bf sucks", and starts up the videogame.

Once making it through the tutorial segment for Dabi's sake, Dabi says, " Okay, so first we should probably make a better shelter, right? I don't want to stand in a hole in the side of a mountain again tonight."

Shigaraki shrugs. "You can handle that if you want, I'm gonna go do something else. Meet up at this ugly tree at sunset, I guess?"

"Yeah, sure, okay." Dabi almost argues that building a proper shelter in one day should be a two-person job, but reminds himself that out of the two of them, Tomura's the gamer and definitely more experienced.

It does turn out to be simpler than he expected, not much more than digging down a tree for a door and digging up row after row or dirt. Suddenly he hears a wave of pathetic "meows", and glances in alarm at Shigaraki's side of the screen. " What are you doing?!?"

Shigaraki's hot bar is full of stacks of spawn eggs, which are rapidly being thrown down into a deep pool he sits in, the resulting cats floating up to a stone roof and slowly drowning. "Being more fun than you."

"That's not 'fun', you NEET, that's useless murder! Where did you even get those?!?"

Tomura chuckles. "You think I've been playing this long and haven't learned the cheat codes? Besides, you're the one that goes into alleyways to set stray thugs on fire, not me. At least mine's just pixelated cats."

Dabi rolls his eyes. "You could at least help me with the shelter here."

"It's a fifteen-by-eight two-story dirt palace, I don't think you need any help. Besides, it's a game. It's supposed to be fun. You're making this like one of Kurogiri's old---" He cuts himself off at the mention of his father figure.

Dabi glances at his boyfriend, slightly concerned, though he'll never show it. "Fine, keep drowning cats, see if I care. But at least come back with beds if you can generate stuff."

He nods, shooting off another few eggs. "Dabi, do you think we're ever gonna win this thing?" he asks, leaning onto Dabi's shoulder.

The man stiffens a little, but lets Tomura stay. "Yeah, I'm sure we can at least get something done. We've already had an influence, haven't we? I mean, All Might retired, there's been a resurgence in thinking like ours, and I don't think it'll just die down even if we do all end up dead or in custody. You've done good work," he says, continuing to place blocks onto their house.

"I hope it's worth it. I mean, yeah, we've done good things, but...I mean, first it was All for One. Then Magne died. Now Kurogiri. I'd hate to have to make any more sacrifices is all." 

He shoots another stack of spawn eggs down, then turns to his boyfriend. "How have you been since your fight with that Geten freak?"

Dabi groans. "He sucks. I'm fine. Burned the side of my face a little, but nothing so bad that Ujiko couldn't fix it."

Shigaraki nods. After a moment, he says,"How would you feel about a magma floor? It'd keep mobs out, might kill us if we're not careful though." He summons a stack with the press of a few buttons.

"Only if you let me place it. No offense, but I'm not sure you're exactly worried about survival based on the way you were murdering animals instead of helping me." Dabi says, finally done with their shelter.

"No, I wanna do it."

"Fine, I'll go get food. You could have at least drowned cows for food or something, geez." He was glad to have moved on from the heavier topics. Sure, it was kind of nice to have people to talk to about things like that, but he also didn't know how to. He doubted Tomura was any better at it, anyway.

"Alright, knock yourself out. Step carefully once you get back." The second Dabi passes over a hill on his quest, Shigaraki grins, and presses a few buttons in rapid-fire, the sky darkening instantly.

"Creep, I swear, put the sky back!" snaps Dabi, gently bumping Tomura off of his shoulder.

He snickers. "You were gonna have to deal with the mobs at some point. Don't worry, you're only about a minute from home."

Dabi huffs, and begins his return to the shelter. He cuts short when he sees a tall, black figure in his way. "What is this and how do I get rid of it?"

"Oh, that's an enderman. Don't worry, all you have to do is look at it right in the eye, it'll teleport away."

Dabi recognizes it as the thing Kurogiri was often compared to by both Tomura and Suichi, but decides not to bring it up. "That seems easy enough," he mumbles, adjusting his cursor to meet its purple gaze. There is a short yelp as the enderman nears to murder poor, trusting, innocent Dabi; and Shigaraki falls to the floor, cackling. Dabi was never playing this again.
