#‘I promise I won’t ever change’ as a main lyric of the final song. yeah. that’s a bit of a problem in my eyes.

Logic’s album College Park why are there skits built in to the last half of the majority of these songs? why are they not separate tracks? im enjoying the saxophone on Clone Wars III only to be forced to listen to a drawn-out staged Carl’s Jr. drive thru order. in what context is this relistenable?
#was into his music freshman year and decided to see how things are going. happy for the Floating Points vibes but these skits. unbearable.#been watching Anthony Fantono lately I want to be a music critic for a second don’t worry about it fgjfjg#Logic#music#meposting#release a version where the skits are separate tracks please for the love of god#some of them seem improvised /derogatory? but they all feel staged. the result: neither focused nor intimate/casual#just don’t understand the Logic behind it#I would like to listen to these without feeling like I’m eavesdropping on a conversation at the end thanks#I appreciate his production and rhythm/flow as a foundation for my tastes but. Scattered Thoughts on Treason: The Musical
[warning for some critical discussion]
The Cold Hard Ground:
First song I listened to.
God, we’re getting DARK. This is seriously a mix between a villain song and a hero song, and I’m HERE for it.
This is the one I’m possibly most interested in, because it’s really making me wonder how they’re going to portray the plotters: Are we going to be seeing them as fanatics, or as heroes, or somewhere in-between? In this song, it looks like Catesby is a man broken by grief who turned to fanatical religion as a way of coping with his own suicidal tendencies.
“So TAKEEEEE MEEEEEEEEEEE. You won’t BREEEEEAAAAAK meeee, it’s too late to SAAAAAAAAVVVVEEEE MEEEEEE.”
GOD those final notes are going HARD.
At first, I thought that it was rather scattered, musically wise, but the more I listen to it, the more I think it’s brilliant because the music comes together by the end, as Catesby seems to calcify in his convictions.
I’ll be really curious to see how anyone but Hadley serves this, but a solid 80% of this song, at the moment, is built on his impressive performance. I’ll be really curious in knowing how the livestreams went.
Take Things To Our Own Hands:
Honestly, my favorite song on the album, probably one of them that I can best visualize on stage.
WE NEED TO THINK OF A WAAAAAY TO BRING THE WHOLE SHIP DOWN.
Favorite vocal moment: When all the conspirators’ voices join one another, and then the moment at the end where it sounds almost like a church’s choir.
I absolutely LOVE the slick folkish feel to this, paired with the driven pace, it’s like if “The Story Told” from Monte Cristo decided to go folk, I love it. It really has a feel that I don’t see many musicals going for (Hadestown being the closest, though it goes in a jazzier style than this) , and that’s something really in its favor. If the rest of the songs follow this level of quality and tone, this musical is going to be a really, really fun ride.
Also, it’s very interesting in terms of how, even though this is the conspirators’ “Pump Me Up” song, there’s this very DARK overtone to it, which makes sense given what they’re proposing. Their voices go increasingly hard, almost into a staccato, and I wonder how much of that is diction VS them showing how hardened and increasingly radicalized the conspirators are becoming.
That being said: “I once had influenza but now that’s all gone when things turned sour”?????????????????? I’m trying desperately to wrap my head around this lyric, it sticks out like a sore thumb.
The lyrics in this particular song are, admittedly, its weakest point: They tend to be very, very repetitive, but, in all honesty, it doesn’t really bother me - It works with that mood of the conspirators becoming radicalized.
I know that Hadley tends to get most of the kudos for this song, but the other conspirators (Waylon Jacobs, Oliver Savile and Emmanuel Kojo) deserve MASSIVE kudos for their performances, I’m seriously going to be looking into all of them after this.
The Day Elizabeth Died
I started off not really caring for this song, but I’ve really warmed to it.
I’m really curious about who the main singer in this song is supposed to be, because I feel like that will really change how I feel about the lyrics specifying that she had “An inch of makeup on her face”. If we’re supposed to view this from the perspective of a devoutly religious 17th century Catholic woman, I can understand it more than a Protestant woman, given that it really, really works with some misogynistic stereotypes about Elizabeth.
So, the singer’s apparently Anne Vaux, which makes sense. Okay, I’ll give them this one. A little period-accurate internalized misogyny can be good for the soul.
I LOVE Rebecca La Chance’s voice. It’s so wonderfully clear and strong, delicate, but with steel beneath it.
There’s something almost....wistful, melancholy, and isolated about this song? It strikes a very odd balance between being sympathetic to Elizabeth (some say she died of a broken heart) while condemning her reign.
ALSO. BEST VOCAL MOMENT ON THE ENTIRE ALBUM. “We mourned for her, she was our queen, and for 45 years, she had reigned supreme.” And then the conspirators coming on with “WE DID NOT MOOOOOURRRRN FOR HER. SHEWASOURCAPTOR.” I could, legitimately, listen to that bit alone on repeat, I’m actually obsessed with it. That odd, conflicted feeling between Elizabeth having been Queen for longer than most of England had been alive, providing a sense of stability, while also the very real persecution that English Catholics were under. This is the kind of nuance I really want to see the musical carry forward.
Blind Faith
I don’t really know what to say except that Martha Percy’s love for Thomas Percy is juxtaposed with Thomas Percy’s feelings for Catesby.
Literally.
That’s the song.
If this musical ever develops a fandom, there are going to be a hundred Catesby/Thomas fics, with James/Thomas being the darkhorse fic.
It’s hard to judge this one, simply because it’s much more conventional love song - It sounds similar to, for example, “That Would Be Enough”, if Alexander Hamiltpn decided to blow up George III instead of join the American Revolution. It’s a TWIST on the conventional love song, but it still follows similar beats.
But I DO love how their voices go together, the song really starts to shine when that happens.
That last “This path was MINE to choose, he has nothing to prove”, probably is the best vocal moment.
Overall, I don’t have MANY thoughts on this song in comparison to the others, but I can also see myself warming up to it over time.
The Promise
“His face is quite nice” It’s VERY obvious they’re going for a queer comic relief interpretation of James, which I honestly have mixed feelings about given that he is, clearly, going to be the one that our protagonists are trying to get rid of. There’s.....something about that, a bunch of presumably straight protagonists ganging up to kill a stereotypically portrayed gay man. I know that historically, James WAS, but.....I still don’t like how stereotypical they played this one. Someone could point to Herod from JCS but, in all fairness, Herod was written in the 1970s (and, tbh, given that the central relationship in the musical is Jesus and Judas, you could argue that the entire musical is very, very homoerotic, which makes it less glaring.) This is...well, I’ll have to see how the musical deals with it. I’m willing to give it a fair shake, but they might have set themselves up for danger here.
But Daniel Boys is, admittedly, serving this song on a silver platter.
Really, really going into the Spoiled Child Route here.
If it sounds like I’m disappointed with this song compared to the others, it’s because......yeah, I kind of am. Musically, it’s fine and a little catchy, lyrically, it’s fine, but that nuance I’d been seeing in the other songs goes out the window. James isn’t my favorite historical figure of all time (Bro basically set up the English Civil War), but there still HAD to be a better way to do him justice than this.
It doesn’t hurt that, unlike the other songs, which were demonstrably TREASON, this one is very much.....a JCS/Hamilton rip-off. Like, it’s very, very blatant.
Love the rising strings when Percy tells him that Elizabeth is dying, that sense of tension - It does remind me a little of something I heard in The Pirate Queen, but you know what? I’ll give it to them.
Lowkey obsessed with Oliver Saville’s eyebrow raise when he says “You could save England.”
The problem is that they’re leaning so hard into the comic route that, when James says that he’ll be a fair king, it really, really makes the Catholic nobility sound dumb as Hell to listen to him. Like “Yes, man who routinely, gleefully sings about cutting off people’s heads, I’ll listen to you!” I know they’re desperate but....come on.
But also. THAT HIGH NOTE. Daniel Boys really put 110% in there.
Overall, my takeaway is that this musical could either do very, very well or very, very badly, depending on how they play it. It’s hard to judge because the public only has access to 5 tracks (except for the lucky ducks who bought tickets to the stream, where they got access to 10) - It’s hard to judge a musical based off of 5 tracks, and a musical about the Gunpowder Plot with, say, a love song called “Blind Faith” almost sounds like something out of a parody, something destined to be one of those flops that go down in history. BUT, that being said, the musical has some very strong vocal performances and some really good music, when it keeps to its own mood and style instead of trying to go off of what other, more successful musicals have done. There’s some real, real promise in this musical, and I’ll be both anxious and excited to see how it all turns out (and if they ever offer a full purchase for the live recording......I’d honestly probably buy it.) It was a shame I found out about it so late in the game, because I’d have totally bought tickets to the stream if I had known earlier.

The Heartbeat of Inspiration
Summary: Musicians find magic within the simplest sounds, especially when it’s laced with love
Word Count: just shy of 1.5k
Warnings: silly and sweet with some fluff and a slight dip into cheeky fucker
Author Notes: I had been lamenting earlier Saturday that I wanted to write, opened a few things I have going (which I HATE having multiple things started let alone started and just hanging) none sparked joy at the moment, prompts I’m sitting on were doing the same. Was about to close down for the night when Bre @fallinallincurls decided to blog THIS and then all of a sudden, a word doc was opened and I vomited 250 words in like 10 minutes. I had about 1k done in an hour, then it took a turn. All in all, 2 hours to bang out this whole thing start to finish. CRAZY. Miss muse, she has a mind of her own.
This falls earlier in the verse than I’ve been writing lately, like somewhere between Sharing a Look and Because I Need You. Totally can be a stand-alone but as always, verse knowledge helps. Full masterlist can be found here.
Tumblr media
“Can I play you something?” he asks earnestly, guitar slung on his back as he reaches for your hand.
“Of course, always. But why not here?” you question as he pulls you through the maze of people, cases and wires, down a random hallway you don’t remember seeing before. He peeks around the corner and ducks you both into a dimly lit room.
“Because,” he smiles, swinging his guitar around before hopping up on the counter in the small space he’s found.
“Because is so not an answer my dear. What are you up to Shawn?” you knit your eyebrows as you pop down cross legged on the floor across from him.
“When you were on that call before, after sound check? I didn’t want to sit or anything. Too much rolling through me,” he explains strumming lightly. “I felt something bubbling. I needed to play and write and just be you know? Bus wouldn’t do it or my room cause everyone would be popping in and out. I went to wander, it got quieter. Found this. Not sure why we’re not using it considering everyone’s on top of each other in this place.”
“I thought you went to nap, I know the bus and all the extra stuff hasn’t been the best for you for sleep,” you start before he jumps back in.
“Nope. Was in here. Remember that progression that’s been eating at me? The one I made you record on your phone the other morning?” he plays it, and eases into it further, looping back to the original. “Music’s done. Or I think it is.”
He goes head down, focusing solely on the guitar and the sounds coming from it. You love all facets of this man of yours, but seeing him in his element, creating, in love with the music. The way you get to see him, the way he allows you to see him this way; it’s nothing short of special. Towards the end he’s bopping his head along as he strums, smile creeping across his lips.
“And so yeah, it’s that,” he shrugs, bashful and flushing all of a sudden.
“Can you play it for me again?” you request. “Please?”
He turns a few shades pinker, deeper. “Really?”
You nod, looking him straight in the eye, lips quirking up on one side.
He slides back into music mode, this time a little surer of the chords and the strings underneath his fingers. He looks up at you more this go, cheeky little grin as he progresses. Head bops a little more towards the end of this go, the newness still there but something with it settling underneath his skin and into his bones.
“I think I’ve got the start of lyrics too,” he mumbles, fingers drumming against the front of the light washed wood. “If all goes well, wanna get this down, mixed. Done. Drop it when we get back from all this. A surprise, a thank you, an end note to this bit of running if you will.”
“What brought this all on all of a sudden? What’s the inspiration?” you question, head tilting to the side just enjoying the scene folding out in front of you. He’s always pretty in your eyes, but when he gets deep into his music, he’s ethereal with a whole other glow.
“You,” he says so matter of factly, not looking up from his fingers fidgeting across the frets now. “The other night, when you finally got in, and you slid into my arms. Something just popped, clicked. It was this feeling of calm and serenity, that nothing else mattered but that single moment with you. I heard the progression in your heartbeat, as fucking cheesy as it sounds, but I did. It hit, stuck in my head even when we slept. Felt it again, stronger and more sure really, when I woke up with you sleeping on me. Why I made you record me playing it first thing that morning. I couldn’t let it go, I needed to keep it.”
“I had to go and fall in love with a poetic as shit songwriter,” you sniff, shifting to your feet to get to him.
He hopped down off the counter, slinging his guitar behind him to get you into his arms.
“I warned you that this whole muse thing for a musician was real,” he laughs brightly, holding you tightly to him. “You’re a pretty damn good one at that. Thank you, baby.”
You nuzzle your face against the soft cotton of his t-shirt, wrapping your arms about his waist being careful of the guitar behind him and just hold him so for a few minutes.
“Love you pretty girl,” he whispers, nudging your face up to look at his. “So damn much.”
He leans down, dusting the softest kisses across your face, hitting your eyelids, cheeks, the tip of your nose before carefully pressing into your lips. You’re lost in the moment, in him, in the bubble. Then your phone starts buzzing wildly in your pocket, Shawn’s following suit.
“Shawn,” you utter against his lips, pulling away ever slightly.
“They can wait,” he mutters against your jaw, sliding his hands into the back pockets of your jeans to bring you closer into him. “Wanna love on you a bit before I have to go into show mode. I’ve missed you, missed being this close. You feel good under my hands, the taste of you on my lips.”
He hits this spot on your neck that makes you let go something between a moan and a sigh. “The part of me that loves you so much wants to say to hell with them all, but the rational part of me that knows if they’re hitting both of our phones…”
Shawn doubles down, nose skirting against your skin with his tongue following. “Couple more minutes, please?”
“Baby, sweetheart,” you fight out as he nips at your ear while slipping his thigh between your legs. “You’re not fighting fair. You’ve got folks to see, fans to make swoon, songs to sing.”
“I’m seeing you; I’m making you swoon, I can sing to you,” he utters into your ear, hips canting against yours. “You’re my favorite audience.”
“What’s gotten into you…” you begin just as a familiar face busts into the room.
“There you are. Kids, really?” Cez barks through a deep laugh. “Enough of that. You two are damn lucky it’s me that found you and not say Andrew or even Louis, who by the way is here tonight.”
“I tried,” you say, trying to peel back from him, but he won’t let his grip on you go, his head leaning down into your shoulder at this point.
“Yep, ‘smy fault, but do you blame me man?” he grins wickedly as he picks up his head and pulls you into a much more PG hold. “My girl that I love is here, you know how much I’ve missed the hell out of her and I mean look at her. You’re lucky I’ve behaved at all lately.”
“Shawn,” you push at him, face bright red.
Cez rolls his eyes and chuckles. “You are lucky I care about you the way I do, kid. God help me why I do, I wonder sometimes. You have 15 minutes to get yourself back to your room, cleaned up and changed before meet and greet starts. If you cannot behave, I will take your love with me, so you have to behave. Get it?”
“Come on,” you push him towards the door and in Cez’s direction while still tangled in his grasp. “Time to go be a Rockstar, Shawn.”
He loosens his grip on you, kissing your forehead before letting you go. Shawn nudges at him as he walks towards the door. Cez throws his arm around his neck in a loose head lock. The two walk through the door and down the hallway that way for a beat.
“Thank god for you. Someone here that he’ll really listen to,” Cez replies, letting him free of his hold.
“I listen to you,” he sticks his tongue out at him in retaliation as they hit the main hallway backstage.
“See what I deal with? Go, I’m back for you at 4!” Cez calls out walking past the both of you
“Wanna dress me?” he asks, wiggling his eyebrows with a wink as you get through to his room.
“I’ll help choose, no touching now, but I call dibs on getting you out of it later ok?” you pick through the rolling rack on the far wall.
He comes behind you to hug you again, his chin hooking over your shoulder. “Promise?”
You twist to kiss him as best you can. “Post Rockstar show Shawn is one of my favorites so yes, of course. Me, you and that couch after the show.”
“It’s a date.”

Thick as Thieves
Tumblr media
Summary: Luke and Leia have always been the closest out of the Hemmings siblings. But will they remain thick as thieves when Luke gains more brothers?
A/N: Sort of an anon request in that more brother!luke was written. So here’s a (badly constructed?) plot for that.
Content: Mostly sibling dynamics with some build up of Ash and Leia dynamics
Word Count: 2.5k
And away, and away we go!
Leia’s hand smeared the ink on her paper as the loud guitar chord rang out. She pushed the assignment aside and went stalking down the hallway. She didn’t bother knocking, instead shoving the door open and putting her hands on her hips. “Could ya not?!”
“Could ya knock?!” Luke shot back, quickly getting up and crossing the room to slam the door in her face.
Leia was quicker, her hand shooting out to brace against the doorframe. “I’m trying to study, dumbass. I know school isn’t important to you anymore, but it still means something to us nobodies.”
“School’s still important to me! I just have to practice!” His irritation faded as the nerves he’d been trying to get rid of set in again. “We have a show tonight,” he confided.
“Oh, shit, really?” Leia asked, her blue eyes lighting up in excitement.
“Yeah,” he continued, fiddling with his fingers. “This isn’t just us messing around anymore. This is like a real show. With real people.”
“You don’t even have a drummer though,” she pointed out the flaw in his plan.
“Yeah, Mike found a guy. Think he said his name was Ashton. I dunno.”
“Oh? Does he know your songs?”
“The ones were gonna do, yeah. Or he said he did anyway. I dunno. I hope so.”
“You’ll do great, Lu-lu,” she told him. He may annoy her to death sometimes, but he was still her twin brother. And they were thick as thieves their whole life together. “Mum driving you?”
“Yeah,” he said, glancing at the time on his phone. “If she ever gets here…” He swore under his breath.
“Relax, she’ll be home in like five minutes, watch.” Then, “Is that what you’re wearing to your show?”
Luke glanced down at his plain tank too, blue skinny jeans, and Converse. One foot shifted to rest on the other. “What’s wrong with how I’m dressed?”
She ruffled his hair playfully. “Nothing. Can I come?”
“No way! I'm about to be a rockstar, Le-le. I can’t have my baby sister and Mum at my show. And stop messing up my hair!”
“All the rockstars have messy hair,” she teased, musing up his hair more with both her hands.
“No, they don’t! Quit it!”
“Say I can come and I’ll stop,” she taunted.
“Fine! Alright! But you’re sitting in the back and keeping your mouth shut.”
“You got yourself a deal,” she agreed and dropped her hands.
“Yeah, yeah. Now get lost.”
~~~
Luke had wandered off, his face a sickly green, so Leia had taken the initiative to tune his guitar. “He’s lucky to have you,” Mike told her.
“Please,” she scoffed. “He didn’t even want me here. He wants nothing to do with me now that he has you guys.”
“That’s what you think.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah! All he does is go on about how smart you are and that you’re the real ticket to him being somebody. Says you got a brain for business. Says we should actually thank you for this,” Mike told her, gesturing around the building. “So, thanks. Although, you coulda waited til we had a drummer.”
Leia blushed. She had secretly emailed the videos of her brother to various music venues. He thought he was YouTube good. She knew he was better. And too shy to take that risk himself. “Well you got one anyway, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, we’ll see how he works out. He’s a little older so I’m not sure how he’s gonna feel about being with us ya know? But he’s good.”
“Is he cute?”
“Not as cute as me.”
Leia laughed. She had always liked Mike. He was wild in a way that was fun rather than dangerous. But she wasn’t attracted to him that way. “I’m not gonna date ya, Mikey.”
“I know. How’s… what’s his name…”
“Oliver?” she offered up the name of the boy she was currently crushing on.
“Yeah, him!”
“He’s whatever,” she shrugged. “I thought he was into me, but then I think Luke said something to him.”
“Well if Luke doesn’t like him then…”
Leia laughed again. “Luke needs to learn when to butt out.”
“Funny,” Mike laughed with her. “He says the same thing about you.”
“Yeah, but you guys need me, let’s face it.”
“True that,” Mike agreed. Then, “Oh, hey! Ash! Ya made it!” Mike called out to a lanky boy with straightened hair, fist clenched uncertainly around a pair of drumsticks.
The teenager’s eyes lit up in realization of a familiar face and he rushed over. “Hey, Mike. So this is the place, huh?” he asked, spinning around in a slow circle.
“Yup, this is it. Need help unloading your drums?”
“Yeah, that’d be great. Hey, I’m Ashton,” the newcomer said, offering his hand to Leia.
“Leia,” she smiled, shaking his hand.
“I thought you said the other guitarist was a guy too,” Ashton questioned Mike as the trio walked out to a minivan.
“He is. This is his little sister,” Mike said, flinging his arm around Leia’s shoulders and grinning.
“Oi! Piss off!” Leia shoved Mike off of her. She hated being introduced that way. “Luke, the other guitarist, is my twin brother. And he’s… somewhere,” she explained to Ashton.
Ashton giggled, a boyish sound that made Leia forget all about Oliver. And when that smile revealed a dimple, she wasn’t sure any of her crushes could compare to what she was feeling now.
~~~
“How’d you even get these mics?” Luke marveled as he checked that the main camera had them all in view.
“I got connections, Lu-lu,” Leia grinned as she played with the settings on the camera in her hands.
Ashton, Calum, and Mike snickered into their hands at the nickname. “Lu-lu!” they sang-teased.
Luke’s cheeks flushed bright red. “You really have to be here?”
Leia rolled her eyes. “This isn’t some cover, Lucas. This is your own material. It needs more than one angle.”
“How much of this did Mum teach you and how much is this you thinking you know what you’re doing? Luke asked, skeptically as he took his spot on the couch next to Calum.
“Don’t ask questions you don’t want the real answer to,” Leia told him.
Luke groaned in response. “You better know what you’re doing.”
“Stick to singing and playing guitar. Leave the technical side to the experts.”
“You’re not an expert! You’re fifteen!”
“You’re not in a band! You’re fifteen!” she shot back. If he could be in a band he was determined to take as far as he could take it, why couldn’t she be a media expert?
“Luke, didn’t you say she got us that gig a few months back?” Ashton cut in.
“Yeah…”
“Maybe she knows what she’s doing,” he defended, with a soft smile in Leia’s direction.
“At least someone in this band has a brain,” Leia said with a playful roll of her eyes.
“Hey!” Calum and Mike pouted.
“Oh, whatever.” Leia moved over to the camera on the stand. “Ready?” she checked, finger hovering over record.
All four boys let out a collective nervous chuckle before nodding.
Leia hit record on both cameras then nodded silently back, letting them know it was okay to start.
“Hey, I’m Mike,” Mike started.
“I’m Calum.”
“I’m Luke.”
“And I’m Ashton.”
“And we’re 5 Seconds of Summer, and this is our song Gotta Get Out,” Luke continued the small intro, a nervous hand pushing his hair out of his face.
They started playing and Leia moved soundlessly about the room, getting different close up shots from various angles. Ashton heartbeat pounded loudly in his ears every time Leia got closer to him, his grin growing. He liked the way she was comfortable around them. That she didn’t run up to her room to hide when they came over, but rather joined in on the fun. Or in this case, offered her help.
When Ashton undercut Luke’s lyrics with a gently crooned, “Gotta get, gotta get out,” Leia’s head swam as she zoomed in on his soft smile.
~~~
“You’re what?!” Leia screeched, blue eyes flashing dangerously.
“I’m going to London with the band!” Luke repeated, his enthusiasm not faltering.
“And just what are you gonna do in London?!” she demanded.
“Make it big time!” His enthusiasm gave way to hot-headed defense.
“So you’re just gonna leave me here?!”
“You’d ask me to give up my dream? That’s pretty selfish of you, don’t ya think?”
“Selfish?! I’ve bent myself over backwards for you and your stupid band! I’m the one who got you your first gig! I’m the one who edited your videos for you! Me! And now you’re just gonna up and leave?!”
“Then what’d you do it for if you didn’t want me to leave?!”
“Because you’re my brother and I believe in you! I’m always gonna be on your side! I just didn’t think you’d leave like it was nothing! I figured you’d at least act a little sad…” Her voice began to wobble as her vision got blurry. “It’s been me and you since day 1, Lu-lu. And now you’re just gonna be gone?”
“You’re still gonna have Mum and Dad. And Ben and Jack,” he assured her his own fight leaving him at the look of heartbreak etched on her face. “And if you don’t think I’m not gonna miss you like crazy… or that I won’t come home at the drop of a hat if you need me… Le-le, you’re still my sister. No matter what this world throws my way, nothing is going to change that, okay?”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
~~~
6 Years Later
“And this is Luke,” Leia smiled, finally introducing her boyfriend to her twin brother.
“Nice to meet ya,” Luke grinned, shaking Wyatt’s hand. “Glad to finally put a face to name.”
“Same,” Wyatt laughed. “You should hear the way she goes on about her brother, the rockstar, out living the dream life in LA.”
Luke’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment and he laughed nervously. “You should hear the way she goes about you,” Luke offered up.
It was Leia’s cheeks who turned pink this time. “And, we’re done here,” she said, tugging on Wyatt’s arm.
Both men shared a laugh over her embarrassment. “She’s modest. She calls me the rockstar, but I couldn’t have done any of it without her,” Luke continued to brag.
“Tell me about it,” Wyatt agreed. “Can’t compliment her without-”
“Without her completely shutting it down, I know!” Luke laughed.
“Oh, my God, I hate you both… so fuckin’ much…” Leia groaned into her hands. “I’m gonna go catch up with the guys. You two have fun. And don’t embarrass me!”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” they both fake promised.
“I mean it,” she warned before walking off.
“Hey, long time no see,” Ashton was the first to greet her, offering her a hug.
“Hey, Ash,” she smiled into the embrace. “How goes it?”
“Same old, same old,” was the generic response. “What ever happened to Oliver?” he asked with a head nod over at Wyatt.
Leia laughed. “We broke up like five years ago, Ash. Where have you been?”
Ashton looked confused for a moment. “Shit… James? No! Charlie?”
“James was three years ago. And Peter was last year.”
“Peter,” Ashton nodded in remembrance. “He was cool.”
“He was alright,” she admitted. It wasn’t that she had been unlucky in love per say. The guys she had relationships with had all been really good guys, and she had enjoyed her time with them. But, right around the time Ashton breezed back home, feelings she had never come to terms with started to flutter within her again. And then every time she looked at him- Oliver, James, Peter- she saw Ashton. And then Ashton would go back to his life in London and then LA, and her relationship would stutter to a halt. And she would cling to it until she couldn’t cling to it anymore. And then she’d take her time, swearing up and down that when she saw Ashton next she would just take her chance. Then Ashton would come home, with a girl on his arms. And Leia would throw herself in the next relationship to drown out the pain.
“So tell me about Wyatt,” Ashton smiled, his own stomach churning. He had been going through a similar cycle. He’d fly home for the holidays, and meet Leia’s newest fling. He’d fly home and throw himself into the bed of models and superstars to dull the ache. He’d fly back and Leia would be crying to Luke over the boy she’d been gushing about the previous year. Ashton would fly back home, break off his own relationships, and allow both him and Leia both time to heal, determined next time he’d make his move.
This time, both Ashton and Leia thought they had finally beat the cycle. Leia had been dating Wyatt for six months. Everything was still fresh and new. And Ashton had been playing a back and forth game of his own with someone else. Which, if their pattern continued to serve them well, meant that both would be healed and single in a year.

“So, when are you ever gonna move to LA?” Luke asked, throwing a small handful of popcorn into his mouth.
Leia blew out her breath, making her lips fluttered together. “What would I do that for?” She gestured around her apartment. “Where would you stay if I gave all this up?”
“In a hotel because I’m rich and famous,” he grinned.
“And yet, still a total loser,” she teased back, throwing a fistful of popcorn at his face.
“Oi!” he gasped in surprise before upturning the bowl on her head.
“Oi!” she sputtered back. “It’s everywhere now! Thanks, Lucas…”
“You’re welcome,” he chirped, a smirk gracing his lips.
She set the bowl upright on her coffee table and dusted the pieces to the floor, grateful that the snack had been mostly devoured before their small scuffle. “Making my apartment a mess is not gonna get me to move to LA, Lu-lu.”
“Eh, it was worth a shot,” he shrugged.
She laughed, pushing his shoulder. “What would you want me in LA for anyway?”
He shrugged again. “I dunno. I miss you or something. Fuck, I had to live with Ash for the first year we were there because the silence was…”
“Terrifying?” she supplied. “Yeah, I know what you mean.”
He scoffed. “At least you can go home. Keep friendships. The sorts.”
“Aw, wittle rockstar crying in his wads of cash?” she teased.
He laughed as he shook his head, “I’m serious. People treat me differently now. Like they’re either starstruck or act like I grew another head.”
“Well… what did you think was going to happen? That you could run off to London, tour the world, move to LA, continue to tour the world, and that things wouldn’t change?”
“We didn’t change, did we?”
“I mean, we grew up…”
“Le-le… you know what I mean.”
“No, Lu-lu,” she told him, and then she was echoing the words he had told her the first time he had left. “You’re still my brother. No matter what this world throws at us, nothing’s ever gonna change that.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”

screen partner | tom holland
AN: I really was pretty bored before doing this, but I’m trying to increase my imagine portfolio since I’m on my vacations, what means, I have no fucking thing to do but writing and reading. I hope you like it. Also, sorry if the “keep reading” doesn’t appear. Somehow this thing really doesn’t like me and doesn’t want to pop out when I add it to the text.
Warnings: SMUT and unprotected sex (just don’t do it kids), swearing, angst, alcohol.
Words: 3.7K
………………………….
Work was tiring, at least like this after a few weeks of non-stoping filming and lots of flights to promote your new movie. It was a sci-fi movie, where you were one of the main characters, and had way too much screen time on the movie. You’ve been everywhere, Spain, The States, Japan, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, and now you’re back at your own country, England. It wasn’t exactly your hometown though, you were from Sheffield, and now you were in London, hometown for many of your coworkers, like Tom Holland.
He was having an amazing time now, and that bothered you most of the times. He usually hosts many “after parties” for when the press day is done, just to chill out with the cast, the crew and now that he’s home, with his friends and family. As much as you love to party, you were tired and also, you kind of hate him. Not like hate him, you somehow just don’t like him that much. He irritates you and is always flirty and needy, a thing you personally don’t like that much. But anyway, you didn’t think he was that bad, but the rest of the cast was pure shit. You didn’t make any friends, and he was the closest to a friend you had made over the whole year working with them, but really, the parties were stupid.
That night you were wondering throught the hotel halls, carrying your heels, and slowly walking to your bedroom, located at the end of the corridor. You moaned at the distance, but kept going. The entire floor was reserved for the cast and crew that were working along with them. Your assistent was out with her boyfriend, so you had the bedroom all for yourself tonight, which you enjoyed very much. As you got closer to the middle of the hallway, music started to play, a really loud and annoying one. It had a really bad lyric and bass line. You moaned in disgust and kept going, hoping to find your hot water shower and your comfortable bed. As you passed through the opened door, you could hear your name being called in the middle of that awfull song.
“Y/N, already going to bed?” You would recognize that voice anywhere, since you’ve been working together a lot now, once he is your romantic pair in the movie.
“Long press day Holland. All I need right now is my bed.” You said, shortly and trying to completely show your lack of interest.
“Come have a drink, darling.” He said, running his fingers through his hair, giving you a shy smile and looking directly into you.
“No, thank you.” You said and started to walk as quick as possible, but once you heard your name again, you came back in a heartbeat.
“Forget about Y/N, she’s boring as hell. She can’t have a good time like us. I’m not even sure of she has ever been to a party.” That voice cut through the air like glass, and you immediately got that throw up feeling you always feel when you hear it. Sierra was supposed to be your best friend in the movie, but in real life all you wanted to do is choke her so she could stop talking. She was the only american in the cast, but her forced british accent was getting on your nerves, but you had to admit, you two were perfectly great actresses, since it seemed like it was a solid friendship in the movie. You turned back and with one hand on the door you said.
“Excuse me. I know how to have a good time and sure I have been to plenty of parties. I’m from Sheffield, we get fucked up and listen to Spice Girls.” At this point you were already into the room. Tom was looking at you with a small smile on his lips. “I just don’t enjoy the people around here, specially you. But i could perfectly stay and be as cool as you all think you are.”
You turned your back for a dramatic outing, but once you heard her voice again, your blood started to boil.
“Prove it.” She said and you turned your back. Sierra turned her eyes to the girl doing body shots with one of the actors in the movie and you laughed.
“You’re fucking kidding me, right?” You cursed, rolling you eyes.
“You said you could be as cool as we are.”
“As you think you are.” You approached the table and got the vodka bottle on your hands.“Pick someone.”
She looked around the room. Anyone she would pick around there would be the worst to you. Everyone there only thought about the money and fame and you hated it. Her eyes scrowled through everyone, but finally landed in the guy standing right next to her.
“Tommy, my love, do you mind?”
“Fuck.” You whispered, praying that she didn’t hear you.
Tom sat at the couch and reclined on the seat. You rolled your eyes and gave her the bottle. The room went loud, and everyone was just waiting for something great to happen. You got down and helped him remove his black top, revealing his body. “God, he’s fit”, you thought, but kept going with it all. You were glad she picked him, because you knew she was in some kind of insane love about him and you wanted to provoke her. So you ran your hands down his body and looked at him, paralized and looking at you.
“Are you sure?” He asked and you agreed with you head.
“Do it.” You looked at her and she approached him and poured some of the liquor in the area close to his neck. Before it reached his trouser, you started to lick it all, slowly going up through his body. But when you were done, you just kept going. You sat on his lap, one leg on each side of him, and started to leave kisses over his collarbone, neck and jaw, where you stopped and left a hickey behind. You got away from him and cleaned you mouth.
“Wow.” He said, still paralized on his spot.
“Good night.” You said before getting your shoes back on your hands and walking off there, leaving a really jealous Sierra behind and everyone screaming in excitement. You kept walking, you were so close to your room, but you heard your name again, but this time you decided to ignore it.
“Y/N, wait.” He said reaching you and holding your wrist. You looked at him. Tom was now wearing his shirt back on.
“What is it?” You asked, kind of bored.
“What just happened?” He asked and you rolled your eyes and crossed your arms on your chest. “Why did you do that?”
“To fucking shut Sierra’s mouth for once. She’s such an idiot that it makes me want to tie her mouth up.”
“Really? Cause I kind of think you wanted to do it.”
“It wasn’t me who got a hard while I was sitting at your lap.” You said, getting away from there, and you could feel him blushing even though you couldn’t see his face.
“Look, i know she’s annoying, trust me, even I can’t bear it anymore. But was that actually just to bother her, because this right here…” He said pointing to his jaw and you opened your room’s door.
“Was just a reminder to everyone that I can do anything, including what I just did.” You entered your room, and he followed you inside. “What in the name of sanity are you doing?”
“Trying to talk to my friend.” He said and you laughed.
“You’re not my friend, Holland.” You said and you started to take off your jewerly and placing it on their original cases.
“That hurt.” He said and sat down at your bed. “Where’s that ginger one that’s always following you around?”
“She’s out on a date, won’t be returning any time soon.” You said getting into the toilet, slightly closing the door and changing your dress to your silk nightgown. He nodded in response when you got out of the toilet. “Aren’t you coming back to the party with that blonde one and your brothers?”
“Oh, they left a few minutes ago. Also, it’s really nice in here.” He said, lying down in you bed.
“Fuck off!” You said, pointing to the door.
“Noooo, Y/N, we never really got the chance to bond. Look, I know you think I’m annoying…”
“Yeah, you’re right.” You interrupted.
“But I’m trying to be nice to you. I know I messed up when we met, but I’m trying to make up for the shitty comment I made about your hometown and your accent.”
“It’s not nice to treat a woman like that.” You said looking down to the floor.
The first day you two met, Tom made fun of your strong South Yorkshire accent, and so he asked where you were from, and so when you said Sheffield, he started to laugh and told some joke about the Arctic Monkeys. You were pissed, and to you, he instantly became a bore. You never really talked after that one time, or at least you always tried to ignore him.
You left to get rid off your makeup, washing your face with some products made specially for this kind of thing. He stood at the toilet door, watching you clean your face.
“I’m sorry. Sheffield’s nice, and about your accent, it’s the cutest I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”
You could feel your face blush even underneath the cold water. So you dried your face and glanced a look at him. He had a crooked smile on his face.
“It’s okay Holland.”
“You can call me Tom.”
“Right, Tom.” You said emphasizing the Tom. “Could you please leave, I really fancy a sleep.”
“No, I want to stay here.” He said, coming back to your bed and taking his shoes off.
“God, I really can’t stand you.” You said massaging your temples and he left a place by his side.
“Come to bed, darling. I promise not to do anything.”
“You could do nothing in YOUR fucking bed.”
“Come on, babe. There’s a shitload of people partying at my room, and I’m trying to hide from Sierra.” Oh, that girl always had to pop up eventually in everyone’s conversation.
“Fuck, okay. You can stay back, but no funny things and no TV, I really need to rest.” You said lying down at your side, turning around and giving him your back. You both stayed silent for a while, but once he said.
“Nice tattoo.” He referenced to the small flower at the back of your ear.
“Shut up.”
“Why are you always so mean to people? God, you’re so pretty, but so rude.” He said and you turned back to him.
“You think I’m pretty?” You asked, feeling something at the bottom of your stomach. It wasn’t the first time you got that feeling. The first time was when he shared a doughnut with you and cleaned some sugar out of your bottom lip. It came around a lot, and just came to say hi to you.
“You’re gorgeous.” He said and you smiled, making him do his surprise face, but smiling afterwards. “See, much better than screaming and eye rolling.”
“Sorry, is just that everyone on this movie never was nice to me once. You’re the first one.”
“I’ve been trying to be nice to you for so long, but you never let me.”
“I guess I was just hurt.” You said and turned your back to him. “You’re alright, Holland.”
“Hey, I know you’re tired, so I think I’m gonna leave. Sorry for bothering.” He got up, but you turned back to him.
“Stay. I could really talk to someone right now.”
He got back to bed and you sat right next to him, playing with the cheets around your legs. You kept looking down, thinking how to start a conversation.
“I though that maybe talking would make us connect a bit more.”
“So what do you want to talk about?”
From that point on, you talked about everything, about your early lives, your friends, your work, what did you like to eat, do, watch, listen. You kept talking until you heard that the music stopped and Tom went to check if everyone was gone, but he came back holding the keys to his room.
“All gone.” He said and you were now scrowling through Netflix, looking for a movie to watch. You just went with Mean Girls, a movie you always watch when you have nothing more to watch and you’re really bored. It always made you laugh a lot, so it was nice. He lied right next to you and you started to watch it. You turned your back to him, covering everything but your shoulders. You really got distracted with the movie, and didn’t realize how close he was to you right now. He stroked you hair and got it out of you way, exposing your shoulders to him. Your body trembled, and you were enjoying his touch. So he started to leave kisses on your back, collarbone, neck and finally, he got to your ear.
“What are you doing?” You asked. By now, he had his hands all over your tights.
“Getting revenge from the hickey in my jaw.” He left a small one being you ear and you moaned in response.
“So it was all to get into my panties, really nice Holland.” You said getting away from him, and turning to face him.
“No, fuck… I really wanted to be your friend. But God, you drove me insane back at the party. I can still feel your tongue burning through my body. Didn’t you feel something there too?”
You thought about the moment, and hell, of course you did feel something. You wanted more of that, his body was flawless and you were kind of needing a bit of sex. It’s been a while now. So you lied back down and pulled him closer. He got over you and his hands went for your waist and yours went for the hair. He came closer and brushed your lips together.
“I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time.” He said.
“You already kissed me on the set.” You said between your heavy breath.
“It isn’t the same.” He said and finally connected your lips.
It was different from when you kissed on camera. You felt something, a thing you’ve never felt before. You’ve kissed plenty of people, but he was different. Your started rubbing your waist on his, and his hand went down to your booty.
“Fuck, I hate you.” You said between kisses.
“That’s not what your body is telling me.” He said and his hands got into your panties, and his fingers touched your lady bit and he moaned. “Fuck, Y/N, you’re so wet.”
“Look what you made me do baby.” He got your night gown off, and was really glad that you weren’t wearing a bra. He was hypnotized by your tits, and he sucked it like it was going to be the last thing he was about to do on his life. You moaned in response, leaving scratches on the back of his head.
“You’re the worst.” He said and came back to your mouth. You helped him take his shirt off, and ran your fingers through his body once again.
“Your body is so amazing.” You said, analizing every bit of it.
“It’s yours tonight, love.” And so he began to thrill his way to your down, leaving kisses all over your belly and tights. He got rid off your panties very quickly. His fingers met your heat very soon, and he moaned once again on how wet you was. He stimulated your clitoris, and swiped one finger in, slowly, making you go insane. You moaned and he smiled, looking at you. “Look at me when I do this to you.”
“Shit!” You screamed and he swiped another finger in, pumping harder than before. You let your head go back and your eyes rolled. Your fingers were holding the sheets so hard you thought you were going to rip it. “Oh fuck! Tom, please, fuck me.”
“Not yet, darling.” So his lips met your parts and you could feel his tongue slowly traveling to every bit around your lady part. Your couldn’t stand it anymore and you let a loud moan come out of your mouth.
“FUCK!” You screamed and he stopped. “Why did you stop?”
“Be quiet or daddy will punish you.”
“This won’t work with me.” You said and he laughed.
“Oh, it will.” So he started from where he stopped, going faster than before. Your fingers met his hair, rolling the small curls around them and pulling them, but something making him go deeper.
“T-Tommy.” You said and bit your bottom lip. “I-I’m gonna cum, fuck!” You said once again.
“Cum for me baby, cum for Tommy.” He said using his fingers again, and you felt it. You couldn’t hold it anymore and you exploded on his fingers, letting a lot moan echo through the room. “Do you still hate me?”
“Sooooo much.” You said almost breathless. He sucked the cum out your bottom and went to kiss you again, so you tasted yourself on his mouth. “But now it’s your turn to hate me.”
Now you were on top. You sat on his lap and moved your hips for a while. You could feel his hardness on yourself and you loved how your body had this kind of effect on him. You got down and got rid off his pants. You used your hands to provoke him a bit more, running them on his member from above the underwear.
“Fuck babe, you’re driving me insane.” He whispered and you kissed him, shortly. But got down to him again.
This time you took his underwear off and started running your hands through his length. He pushed his head back, closing his eyes and moaning. You could feel his dick pumping on your hands. So you took it to your mouth, going up and down, making him moan even more, and say dirty things to you. It was getting thicker and thicker, and you saw he wasn’t going to take it any longer.
“Not yet.” You said and stopped playing with him and just lied on his arms, where he kissed you gently, but the desire was always present.
He got on top, and used his hands to explore your body, and you were loving it. No one did such a thing to you in a long time. He positioned and slowly got his length inside you. You both moaned together.
“Oh baby, you’re so tiny.” He said very close to her ears. “Shit, I never would have imagined you and I would have ended up like this.”
“Neither would I.” You said and he started to go faster, making you moan even more.
“Shit! I forgot the condom!” He said, but didn’t stop.
“I’m on the pill.” You said and pulled him closer, using your nails to scretch his back. “You’re clean, right?”
“Yes, very clean, and you?”
“C-clean as a-always. Fuck.” She moaned. “Oh darling, you’re so good.”
“You’re the best, love.” He moaned.
Never in a lifetime you would have imagined to be like this with Tom Holland. You used to unbare him, but you had to admit, you were just being the boring twat you always are. Now he has proven to you more than ever that he’s a nice guy. He pumped into you a few times more, but he knew he wasn’t going to last longer.
“Fuck! I’m gonna cum.” He pratically screamed, going as fast as he could.
“Cum outside me.”
He got out of her and started to pump himself, until he came all over your belly, moaning more than before. When he stopped, he used a towel to clean him and you up. And so he got down to you again.
“What are you doing Tommy?” You asked.
“You didn’t cum yet.” He said, letting two fingers come into you. He was as fast as he was before, and it was driving you insane. He started to kiss you again, and you couldn’t help but stop the kiss sometimes to moan. You were close, but you were trying to hold it so it wouldn’t be over. He kept saying dirty things to you like “Cum to me princess”. Once you couldn’t stop it and exploded a second time that night on his hands. He cleaned it up with his mouth and towel.
“Come here, love.” You said and he lied on you chest, and you let your fingers stroke his hair.
“We came from dickwad to love. I loved how this night turned our lives sideways.”
“Yeah, me too.” You said smiling. He started to draw little hearts with his on your belly. “Tom.”
“Yes, love.” He said looking at you.
“I really want to keep up being your friend.”
“I would prefer to have something better. Fancy a dinner sometime?”
“Sure, why not?” You said and he cuddled you for a bit more, but so he got up. “Are you leaving?”
“We need a bath, we’re disgusting.” He said and you laughed following him to the toilet. He was now looking at the mirror and you hugged him from behind.
“You’re really fit, Holland.”
“Thank you.” He said looking at you through the mirror. “And I just realized something.”
“What is it?” You asked.
“I prefer when you moan Tommy instead of calling me Holland.”
“Dickhead.” You cursed and laughed.
“Come on, let’s do it together.”
He pulled you into the bath and you both had a lot of fun playing with each other and with the soap and shampoo. Nothing sexual, just bonding. That was the moment you knew it wasn’t just about sex, it wasn’t just to provoke Sierra. It was something more and you loved the idea of that new friendship, or just like he said, something else.

Tanabattalion☆Returns Analysis (七夕リアン☆リターンズ考)
By Sekihan via https://lineblog.me/omedeta/archives/9380720.html. ~~Reading the Lyrics~~ I see. I don’t understand ‘em at all🤔 Let's review them bit by bit then, shall we.    'At my side you were when you said    “Do you know what Chikuwabu is?”    Today marks 2 years of nights we’ve spent together like this    I really hope I’ll be able tell her...' Ah, so it’s a song about a couple. Yeah yeah. “Chikuwabu” is buzzword for ‘Oden noodles’ that only people from Kantou know, so the girl asking the question must be from Kantou. Meaning her boyfriend, the main character, must be from somewhere other than Kantou, yeah that makes sense. It’s like their 2nd year anniversary together then or something like that. Yeah yeah.    'I stub my pinkie toe on the edge of a cabinet    It hurt so much I got sent into shock, I kicked the bucket’ I see. The main character dies.   'I’ve tried to tell you my feelings 100 times before, but still after all this time     I still left them unsaid' So he wanted to tell her something in the intro (on that special day) but... This clutz of a main character went off and died before he could say it. What a clutz. The number of attempts he’s made at telling her this important thing is.. exactly 100 times. He keeps track huh, he’s quite the feminine main character. So his 100th attempt also ended in a failure. Yeah yeah.   'Let me stay with you   Come wake up my cold corpse (body)’ A sudden twist into horror. Even after death he still wants to stick with his girlfriend. He wishes with all his heart: Enough to turn into the walking dead. Kinda like Colin🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️     'I won't die, I can’t die     Because I love you     My 101st confessionI pray it reaches you     The Sanzu River, the galaxy’s rivers of stars     I’ll push through all of them just to see you     Our bond holds even millions of lightyears apart     A couple’s necromance, ah what a dumbbell' Wait this is ‘Monday 9’. So the writer just wanted to reference this, I bet. “I won’t diee. Because I love you.” (✳︎'Monday 9' is the word for the dramas that air at prime time on TV  https://wiki.d-addicts.com/Getsuku_(Fuji_TV), with the show '101st Marriage Proposal' among them. A notorious line from an episode is these exact words… After a character expresses their distress and terror of falling in love, another character runs out into the rain, almost gets hit by a bus, is safe by a hair, then wails them out at his beloved. Seki’s imagination recreated this zombie style.) On the night of Tanabata, do Hikoboshi and Orihime cross the galaxy that divides them. Once a year, this is the only time they can finally see each other. That’s the common conception of the legend of Tanabata. Likewise, the main character of Tanabattalion Returns.. crosses the galaxy’s river of stars, or more like the River of Sanzu, just to see his beloved. It’s truly necromantik. (A deadly romance).  Ah what a dumbbell. (✳︎Dumbbell - Or the true word “baka-chin” is a diss coined by Takeda Tetsuya. In stories he told on his shows, his mother would call him ‘baka-chin’. )    '"I love you so much thatI could just eat you up🤤"     This here zombie’s confession rehearsal' So it’s a joke based on the way Zombies are known for eating humans. That’s actually adorable. It’s not funny but still 🥺 I feel as if I’ve heard of this “Confession Rehearsal” thing before...       'I get dressed up from happy go lucky head to toe and head out      My legs are dragging, will I make it in time…' If you’re gonna see your special someone then you gotta dress up, y’know. The reason it’s “dress up from happy head to toe” is because it's a reference to our band name Happy go Lucky Heads. (✳︎ The word “Dress-up” is “おめかしOmekashi” here. As the word has “Ome” in it just like Omedetai, Seki changes the Ome in the lyrics to be written in the same katakana way as the band name, instead of the standard hiragana spelling. Imitating the way the band Boyz || Men change every “to” in their lyric booklet to be written as “||”.
Tumblr media
The main character... He died and became a zombie because he stubbed his toe so His ambulation is wonky, he can’t get much speed. Even though he needs to hurry up and reach her before the night of Tanabata ends! He’s in a pickle🥺     'I won't die, I can’t die     Because I love you     My 101st confession     I hope it reaches you     With my rotting brain I     Considered and chose     A bolt nut ring     I hope it will look good on your finger' These lyrics are the same as the first chorus so I omitted some of them. (✳︎Here Seki uses the word “割愛” for “omit”… A word which has “愛(love)” in it. It has “愛” in it because it’s a bit more intense than a mere omission, it more leans towards “Force self to let go of something, even if don’t want to.”Seki's word choice is cute.) I got the idea for the engagement ring from zombies’ heads. A bold nut ring. Ahh. ‘Cause it’s the whole Monday 9 thing. Yeah yeah. So when he says “I hope it looks good on your finger” ... He must be fully committed to giving it to her.
Tumblr media
'I won’t die, because I love you      I won’t die, because I’m going to make you happy' For the recording I screamed this part of the interlude. The second line is still the 'Monday 9' thing. During concerts I’ll actually straight up tell a story here. What’s wrong with being a bit like King-Show. 🥺   I say it so fast, as if a guns to my head. So I need to put a lot of brain power into making sure it’s intelligible.     'July 7th, a sunny day     I found you     There, under the night stars shooting down, was the sound gunfire      I’ve been shot in the head' "'Us staff searched long and far. Until at long last I found Her 🥺'" ↑This reference is unrelated. I just wanted to say it. (✳︎A notable line from this variety show). Now. On this Tanabata night, under the wide open starry sky, did he finally find her. The moment of truth to confess his feelings. His 101st attempt! I won’t die! Because I love you! I won’t die! Because I’m going to make you happy! (In other words: please marry me). He says! Even though he’s already dead! Alas... Instead of hearing her voice say “Yes” The last sound he ever hears is Her scream, along with the roar of gunfire. It’s said that zombies can’t die but With a headshot you’re certain to K.O. them. Just like “Shoot him in the head! (頭を狙え!)”(✳︎Seki writes it in English here then adds JP translation. Thanks Seki for being fluent in English). The classic phrase from zombie movies. Hey, who the hell shot him! Who!     'I won't die, I can’t die     Because I love youThe bolt nut ring     It hope it reaches you     The Sanzu River, the galaxy’s rivers of stars     I pushed through all of them just to see you     Our bond holds even millions of lightyears apart     A couple’s necromance, for now and forever more' If you think about it.. He’s a zombie right, It’s hard to tell if he truly has consciousness or not. So then what the hell was this all about?! You may be wondering but This is fantasy, fiction. Or... You may instead be worrying “Will he not be able to give it to her anymore...” The “I hope it reaches you” lyric holds true for this too. And as you may have already guessed, in the last chorus, as his consciousness is slipping away He sees a dream. In his dream I bet he’s succeeded in confessing to her. In giving her the ring. If he was still human this would be considered homicide,It would be a bad-end but He’s a zombie soIs it a bad-end Or a happy-end..Which.. For her, who’s still alive, and for him, who's a zombie, This is how it has to be. Though it’s impossible to know what’s truly right but. Anyway That calls it for my explanation of Tanabattalion Returns. The title is reference to Return of the Living Dead 3. My favorite of the Living Dead/Battalion series. (✳︎In Japan the title of the series was localized to ‘Battalion’ and the 3rd as 'Battalion Returns'! This is because zombies come in such huge armies, my guess is this conveyed the sheer volume more concisely to the JP audience.) This is probably the first ever love story about a zombie and stuff like this, right? IDK but. The guy who wrote this song is gonna try his best to write lyrics that’re easier to understand from now on. Promise.

Welcome to the Heart Pirates, Nami-ya chapter 12: Love is the Drug
As the clock struck nine, Law escorted Nami back up the narrow stairway to the main street, gallantly helping her back into her coat as they waited outside for Ikkaku.
Leaning against the doorway, he smirked down at her. “I’m going to go ahead and assume my choice for our victory dinner was to your liking?”
“You know what they say; ‘to assume makes an ass of you and me’,” Nami quipped, guard back up. It had been a nice dinner, to be perfectly honest, but the realization of how easy it would be to get hooked on Law’s seduction had shaken her.
After their dance, he’d led them back to the booth and ordered another bottle of champagne, settling in to watch the performers until it was time for her to go. The problem was, in order to get the best view of the stage, the two of them had basically had to cuddle up in the middle of the booth. Law had refrained from wrapping his arm around her waist again, but somehow, the way he’d instead rested it along the back of her seat, his long fingers just able to absently brush against the bare skin of her shoulder, had been worse. The pinpricks of heat they left behind with every casual touch had traveled through her veins like poison, settling in her lower belly and making her hyper aware of his presence for the next half-hour.
Yellow eyes rolled in mock exasperation. “Is it really so difficult to admit you had a good time with me?”
“I’m doing you a favor; with the way that place strokes your ego, your head will swell to the point where you won’t be able to walk through the Tang’s doors.”
He snorted, pushing away from the door frame to stand up straight. “How considerate of you. And how much are you charging for this service?”
Resting her back against the side of the building, Nami peered through the foggy streets, hoping to catch sight of Ikkaku. “I’ll cut you a break and say the cost of those four bottles of champagne we drank. Of course, you still owe me 75,000 belli per day for the rest of the time I’ve been providing this service, plus 300% interest,” she stated, sticking her tongue out at him. Even though she knew their banter would quickly turn to flirting, she couldn’t help herself. It came as naturally as breathing at this point.
“What a coincidence; that happens to be the same amount I’ve been charging you for room and board, plus medical expenses.”
“Liar! That was never in our deal!”
“I never agreed to cover it, either. You also still owe me for your lovely jewelry,” he chuckled, reaching out to run his fingers over the shimmering barrettes. “I believe that was 30,000 belli for the set, plus an additional 50,000 for the diamond hairpins. Oh, and you promised to pay me back with interest, too.”
She shifted her stance so he was no longer touching her, hoping the motion was subtle enough that he wouldn’t see it as a sign of weakness. For extra measure, she glared at him, crossing her arms and jutting out her hip with more confidence than she truly felt. “Well, maybe you should have brought that up after the mission.”
“Give me some credit, Nami-ya; I’m not going to shake down an exhausted, potentially traumatized woman for money,” he drawled as he tucked a stray lock of sunset hair behind her ear. The hot tip of his fingers brushed against the sensitive shell, and Nami fought to suppress a shiver, though she was certain from the way his smirk widened that she’d given some other subtle cue that he’d sparked her arousal.
She was really going to have to watch herself now. If Law was as good at reading her body’s tells as he claimed, it was going to be so much harder to claim she wasn’t interested. For the sake of keeping things professional, the Surgeon of Death needed to be kept at arm’s length, otherwise the next nine months were going to be hell.
Abandoning subtlety and jerking away from his touch, she snapped, “Fine, I’ll pay you when I get back to the ship. But only at 0.1% interest.”
“That seems pretty low.”
“I never specified, so that’s all you’re getting.”
“Hmmm, considering how much you like to weasel your way out of things, I think I’d rather you pay me back now. And if you don’t have cash, I’m happy to take another form of payment,” he said, leaning his forearm against the wall above her head and grinning mischievously down at her. “I’ll forgive your debt for one kiss on the lips.”
Instinctively arching her back to better look up at him, she scowled defiantly. “Kisses from me are worth 800,000 belli each, so I’d be taking a loss on that. No deal.”
“Kiss or pay up, Nami-ya,” he teased as he caressed her jaw, his hot breath, which smelled deliciously of champagne and whiskey, dancing over the pale skin of her throat. “You should know nothing in life is free.”
Luckily for the redhead, out of the corner of her eye Nami spotted Ikkaku approaching, so she ducked under Law’s arm, tossing over her shoulder as she dashed off, “Everything is free if you take it without paying!”
To her surprise, Ikkaku, having heard her parting quip, laughed and grabbed her arm, leading her down a dozen winding side-streets in a dead sprint. When they finally stopped to catch their breath, she winked. “Well. I promised a rescue, but it looks like you were managing fine on your own.”
“The assist was still appreciated,” Nami said with a grin, bumping their hips together. “Ready to party?”
Slinging her arm around the redhead’s shoulder, Ikkaku replied excitedly as she led her inside, “Hell yeah! Our long-overdue Girls’ Night has come at last!”
The bar, Venus, wasn’t nearly as extravagant as Ruby 8, but it was illuminated with cool blue lights that gave the place an unearthly glow, large glass tables, cushy couches, and plenty of attractive male waiters ready to serve the lovely ladies that come through the door. It seemed that, on top of being Ladies’ Night, there was a two-for-one special drink called Hypnotique on the menu. This resulted in a fairly impressive turnout despite being a new establishment as several groups of girls, lured by cheap drinks and lack of creepy men, had flocked to the place.
Luckily, there was still room at the long marble bar, and Nami and Ikkaku quickly claimed a pair of empty stools. Before they could even open their mouths, a tall, pale-haired bartender pulled out a pair of martini glasses. He was well-built, had intense green eyes, and flashed them one of those boyish smiles that could easily make a weak-willed lass melt like butter. “First ones are on me,” he said with a wink. “It’s the least I can do for such beautiful ladies.”
Giggling and fluttering her eyelashes, Nami cooed, “How gallant! Thank you!”
“Wow. Free drinks already?” Ikkaku asked suspiciously, eyeing him up with an unimpressed frown. “Bold to assume you already know what we’d like.”
Nami elbowed her friend in the side. Free drinks were rarely something to turn down, and she certainly understood why any man would treat Ikkaku; the engineer looked absolutely stunning in the short, body-hugging silver dress. The curves her jumpsuit usually hid were on full display, proving that for all her tomboyish personality, she had a great figure. Dark, straightened locks fell enticingly around her shoulders, and her makeup was minimal but smokey, enhancing her umber brown eyes.
The bartender, who’s ID tag stated his name was Mandōreku, didn’t seem dissuaded. “Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? When a man has a chance to win a woman as beautiful as you’s attention, it’d be a crime to waste it.” He leaned across the bar towards the dark-haired beauty, whispering conspiratorially, “Besides, I’m positive you’ll like it; Hypnotique is my own recipe. If it’s a hit tonight, the boss promised me a special bonus. So yeah, first one’s free if you promise to give a good review.”
Ikkaku’s thin eyebrows furrowed a moment before finally nodding in agreement, far more accepting of his practical reason than his flattery. “I don’t give praise lightly, so it’d better be the best damn thing I’ve ever tasted,” she warned.
“If you’re not hooked after tonight, I’ll cut off my nose as penance,” he said confidently before turning to finish fixing their drinks.
With the handsome man suitably occupied, Ikkaku turned to Nami with a teasing smirk. “Now that that’s taken care of; spill. I want to hear all about how your date with Dr. Heart Stealer went.”
“It wasn’t a dat—wait. You knew about that song?” Nami asked, gob smacked. “Why didn’t you warn me?!”
“Warn you that the boss had his own theme song or warn you about how sexy it is?”
“It wasn’t that sexy,” she grumbled unconvincingly.
“Uh huh. So, you weren’t even a little turned on?”
Pink dappled her cheeks as she recalled the suggestive lyrics and the way Law had held her close as they danced, her curves flush against him so she could feel every muscle ripple as they glided across the dance floor. “Can we change the subject? You promised me five consecutive minutes with no talk about Law tonight,” she replied with a pout, hoping the blue lighting hid her embarrassed flush.
“Fine, fine. But I’m counting the past minute.” The two martini glasses were placed in front of them, both containing a fruity, sky-blue cocktail with a drop of dark purple juice floating down towards the bottom like squid ink. Ikkaku took a sip and smacked her lips approvingly. “Ok, I’ll admit it; this is good,” she acknowledged.
Mandōreku beamed proudly. “Told ya so. Want me to bring you another once you’re done?”
“Fine. You can open a tab for us, too.”
“Sure thing, gorgeous,” he said with a wink, walking off to attend some other customers.
As she sipped on her own drink, Nami smirked. “He’s totally into you.” After all the teasing Ikkaku gave her over Law, there was no way she was going to miss the opportunity to return the favor.
Unfortunately, instead of showing even a hint of a blush, the engineer merely waved her hand dismissively. “Whatever. He’s not bad looking, but he’s only into me because of the dress. If he saw me in uniform, there’s no way I’d be getting free drinks.”
“Give yourself some credit—you make that jumpsuit look damn good.”
“Oh, I know I do, but I prefer a guy who thinks I’m irresistible in motor oil and baggy clothes as much as slinky dresses and lipstick.”
“And those are hard to come by, huh?”
“Big time.” Her full lips turned up in a smirk. “You should have seen the crew when I walked down the hall in this dress. They always seem to forget what a hot piece of ass I am, so it did my ego good to see them trip over themselves. Penguin literally walked into a wall he was so distracted.”
“I don’t blame him. I can barely keep my eyes off you,” she giggled, easily imagining the first mate’s dumb-struck face. The man might have been one of the more sensible Hearts, but he was still weak to a pretty woman. “But you should give Mandōreku a chance—maybe he is the kind of guy who would go gaga over a dirty engineer.”
“Please, he’s flirting because it’s his job—make a girl feel pretty so she’ll buy more booze. It’s no different from when you hit on a guy so you can steal his wallet.”
“Ok, ok!” Nami laughed, conceding the point. “But you don’t get to tease me about my lack of sex life if you’re just as picky as I am.”
“I’m not picky; I just know what I want. I know what you want, too. Tall, dark, scheming, dominating, dangerous…”
Rolling her eyes, the navigator slowly sipped her cocktail. It was fruity and tasted strongly of pomegranate and strawberries, but a sharp, sour note and the burn of alcohol cut through the sweetness nicely. “Couldn’t even make it five minutes, huh?”
“Technically, I didn’t bring up anyone specific. But fine, here’s a question I desperately need answered,” Ikkaku said, brow furrowing as she turned to face her, long legs crossed and drink in hand. “How the hell did a girl as gorgeous as you manage to stay a virgin on the high seas?”
Chewing on her bottom lip, Nami hesitated before replying, “It…it was partially by choice, but mostly I just never had the time to invest in a relationship. I had to earn 100 million belli if I wanted to buy back my village. Personal relationships would have been a distraction. Plus…my captain at the time would have slaughtered anyone who so much as touched me.” Even if he hadn’t been determined to keep her in his clutches, Arlong’s casual attitude towards killing humans would have ensured she’d avoid relationships to keep their blood off her hands. “Even a one-night stand wasn’t worth the risk. I mean, what if I got pregnant? That bastard wouldn’t hesitate to hold a baby hostage if it meant I’d have to work for him forever.” She shuddered at the thought. Though she often imagined children in her distant future, she’d get a hysterectomy without anesthesia before letting such a monster gain that kind of power over her.
“And your captain never decided to claim you for himself?”
The thought of Arlong bearing any amount of physical attraction towards her made her stomach lurch. “If there was one good thing about being a prisoner of Fishmen who saw humans as repulsive scum, it’s that sex with me was the last thing on their minds.”
“You’re lucky,” the engineer said softly, knocking back the rest of her drink. “A lot of girls have to suck it up and take it.”
Brown eyes widened as sick realization dawned. “Did you—”
Ikkaku shook her head. “Got groped a lot at my old engineering job. No matter how many times I complained about it, my boss always looked the other way; at least, until I’d threaten to bash someone’s face in. Then I was the one who faced docked wages.”
“Why didn’t you leave?”
“Couldn’t afford it,” she replied sadly, running her finger around the rim of her martini glass. She paused briefly as Mandōreku swooped in to replace their drinks with fresh ones. Thankfully he didn’t linger, and Ikkaku continued, “It was a shit port, but the only one with any real mechanic jobs, and I guess I was just stubborn, you know? My brothers had always told me that, yeah, I was smart and knew machines better than anyone else, but a female engineer just didn’t stand a chance. I wanted to prove them wrong, even if it meant putting up with creeps and assholes.”
“And then you got fired anyway for doing your job right.”
She smiled, eyes bright with pride. “And then I joined the Heart Pirates, where I’m respected and never groped, and the boss takes my opinions seriously. Most of the time, at least.”
Despite herself, Nami grinned as she raised her glass. “Sounds like we both got out of pretty bad situations and found captains worthy of our amazing talents and beauty.”
“That we did. Straw Hat’s a lucky man to have gotten you on his crew.”
“Damn straight.” Seeing an opportunity to gain some information, she asked innocently, “Speaking of lucky men, I hear you guys got to see Amazon Lily and live.”
A dark aura surrounded Ikkaku the moment the words left Nami’s mouth. “Yeah, the guys are lucky I didn’t kick all their asses!” she snarled, fist clenched in rage and murderous fire in her eyes.
Nami blanched. Penguin had said the crew had pissed her off, but this was a much more volatile response than she’d been expecting. “Yeesh, was it that bad?” she asked hesitantly. She was faintly reminded of her own reaction back when she’d been mocked for mentioning Skypeia but brushed it off. Surely, she hadn’t been nearly as bad, and that anger had been perfectly justified. After all, those drunken idiots had dared to laugh at her, all over an innocent question!
Caught up in her anger, the engineer ranted, “Those stupid bastards acted like they’d gone years without seeing a woman. Fucking heart-eyes and nosebleeds everywhere! Almost got themselves shot full of arrows for it, too! I don’t care that they don’t all want to bang me, but fucking hell, when I pointed out that they were acting stupid, they asked if I was jealous! I nearly walked right off the ship and joined Boa Hancock’s crew out of spite!”
Though it was probably smarter to change the subject, Nami found herself asking, “What stopped you?”
Ikkaku’s boiling fury simmered down into a scalding irritation. “Bepo. Literally the only male with sense during our stay. Well, I guess Jean Bart wasn’t so bad, either, but he didn’t really know any of us well enough to pick a side. Either way, Bepo managed to convince me to stick around, even though I still didn’t talk to the other idiots until a week after we left.”
A small smile lifted the corner of Nami’s lips as she noted the deliberate lack of mentioning the Heart Captain. “Ok, I’m curious, so I’ll let you off the hook for this; what did Law do to piss you off? Penguin said he made a stupid comment…”
Chin resting on her fist, she sighed petulantly. “I mean, I get he was stressed with Straw Hat’s surgery and trying to keep everyone alive, but the way he blew off my complaints about it reminded me too much of my old boss, you know? He even snapped at me and said if I didn’t like it, I could leave.”
“…Excuse me I need to go punch your jackass captain.”
A laugh bubbled up in Ikkaku’s throat as she caught Nami’s wrist, tugging her back onto her stool. “It’s fine! Like I said, he had a lot going on, so he was more sleep deprived and grumpier than usual. Straw Hat’s surgery took a lot out of him, and that on top of avoiding the Marines and keeping the boys from getting killed couldn’t have been easy. Once shit settled down and he realized how genuinely pissed I was, he apologized.”
Crossing her arms, Nami scowled. “You let him off with just an apology? I would have made Luffy grovel.”
“Oh, he knew I’d never let him get away with just a verbal admission of guilt, so said apology mainly consisted of a fancy new tool kit and a nice bonus to my paycheck; that’s basically groveling for him. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s part of why he put us together; figured I’d be more willing to keep putting up with his shitty attitude if I had some female companionship.”
A more cynical part of Nami’s brain wondered if that was why Law had been so eager to recruit her, but she brushed it off. He was opportunistic and probably reassured that her presence helped appease his best engineer, but he wouldn’t have taken the risk of trusting the nakama of a rival pirate for such a minor thing. “I’m surprised he wasn’t worried about you convincing me to run away with you.”
“Maybe that’s why he flirts with you so much—he knows I won’t leave if there’s decent entertainment.”
“And the subject of Law is officially back on hold again.”
Ikkaku sniggered. “Fair. But just you wait, oh blushing virgin. You can’t hide from my teasing forever.”
“I can try.”
They finished their cocktails, and before the empty glasses even touched the coasters, the bartender had already brought new ones.
“Impressive service,” Nami noted as Mandōreku darted away to attend to some other customers. She would have loved to watch him try to flirt with Ikkaku again; whether she shot him down or finally gave into his attentions, the redhead was sure it would be an amusing show. Unfortunately, it seemed that none of the men working the club had time to linger—the place was packed, so every man had their hands full, especially as the clientele got more wasted. There was a group of girls at one of the large glass tables that looked like they were having a great time ordering as many drinks as possible so they could watch the attractive waiters walk back and forth, and one black-haired beauty in particular appeared to be utterly smitten, leaning in closer every time one stopped by to drop off another Hypnotique.
“The place just opened, so they’re probably hoping to generate some good buzz,” Ikkaku replied, taking a sip of her drink. “Grimm’s full of flash-in-the-pan, pop-up bars and clubs. Everyone thinks they’ll be the ones to make it big, or it’s a front to some other illicit business, but sooner or later, the owner pisses off the wrong person and gets killed or run out.”
“Well that’s terrifying.”
“Eh, it’s an island full of brothels, black market brokers, back-alley doctors, and other scum. That’s why the crew enforces the buddy system. Which reminds me…” Reaching into her coat, she passed Nami her Clima-Tact and holster. “Better safe than sorry, right?”
Gratefully, she took her weapon, strapping the holster around her waist. “Right. Thanks for worrying about me.”
“Hey, no one’s allowed to steal you away from the crew but me, you hear?”
Laughing carelessly, Nami nodded, taking a sip of her new drink. It was stronger than what she’d expect for a two-for-one special, but maybe Mandōreku added an extra shot in hopes of impressing the duo. Or getting them drunk. She wasn’t worried, though; she’d out-drunk entire taverns with stronger booze than this, and she expected Ikkaku was no slouch, either.
Taking a glance at a nearby clock, the dark-haired engineer’s grin widened. “Anyway, it’s now been five minutes, so Law’s a viable conversation piece again. I don’t see any hickeys—Boss managed to control himself this time?” Ikkaku teased.
Nami’s face flushed slightly at the memory of the incident. Her skin tingled as she remembered the delicious way his teeth had scraped against her vulnerable throat. “Law is so lucky I didn’t slap him for that,” she groused, shaking the feeling away.
“I mean, that was his payback for the sunburn prank, right? Fair’s fair.”
“Oh, shut up; your boss is a lecherous jerk and you know it.”
“And you like the attention he gives you and you know it. I don’t get why you two don’t just fuck and get it over with. You don’t have an evil Fishman holding your life hostage anymore, so what’s the holdup?”
Finger pressed to her bottom lip, Nami sarcastically pretended to think. “Hmmm, I wonder; because we have to work together, and a one-night stand could make the next nine-months-and-change awkward? Because, despite the odds, I’ve made it this far with my virginity still intact, so it seems a waste to throw it away for some meaningless fling? Because I want my first time to be special and with someone I fully trust and not just a guy looking to get into my pants? Because we could end up being enemies in the New World and I don’t want to have to explain to my nakama that I had sex with one of Luffy’s rivals?”
“Do you really think they’d care about that?”
She sighed, absently playing with Nojiko’s bracelet. “I don’t know. I mean, they’ve forgiven me for a lot worse. But Luffy and Law might someday fight it out for the One Piece—you can’t tell me you wouldn’t feel a little guilty if you’d slept with, let’s say Drake or Kid?”
“I’d feel guilty about sleeping with Drake, but only because Law’s staked his claim. And please tell me you wouldn’t actually think I’d be crazy enough to sleep with Eustass Kid?!” she asked, nose wrinkled in disdain.
“Ok, bad examples.” Nami wracked her brain for other Supernovas. “What about Basil Hawkins?”
“If I’d actually managed seduce the world’s most stoic magician, Law would be singing my praises. But I get your point.” Taking a sip of her drink, Ikkaku smirked. “Here’s a question; would you sleep with Hawkins? I mean, imagine it’s not your first time—which, I’ll admit, is a totally legit reason for not giving into Law. But if Basil Hawkins came up to you and said, ‘the cards predict we’ll sleep together’, would you?”
The question caught her off-guard, but despite herself, she considered it. “I mean, I’d never settle for such a shitty pick-up line, but if we just went by looks…” she trailed off, thinking. “He’s got nice hair and he’s not exactly ugly, but the deadpan expression’s kind of a turn-off. Hard to imagine him as a lover.”
“Agreed. He’s from the North Blue, too, so we ran into him a couple times before we set off for the Grand Line, and I don’t think I saw his expression change once.”
“I believe it.”
The Heart Pirate’s grin turned salacious. “So, does this mean we’re going to start rating the fuckability of each Supernova?”
“I mean, what’s Ladies’ Night without arbitrarily ranking men you barely know based on how willing you are to sleep with them, right?” Nami joked, glad they’d moved the conversation away from serious topics. This was supposed to be a fun evening, after all, and she was still feeling a bit raw from spilling so much of her past to Law earlier. And while she’d often indulged in late-night girl talk with Robin, it had rarely been about men; there simply hadn’t been anyone who’d caught her attention at the time, and she’d felt awkward asking the archeologist about her love life considering what a private person she was. Ikkaku was definitely more inclined to share all the dirty details, whether Nami asked for them or not. “You already said you’d never lower yourself to sleep with Kid, but what about his first mate?”
“Bold of you to assume I haven’t already tapped that.”
The redhead’s jaw dropped to the polished bar top. “You’re kidding!”
“Nope.”
“Spill.”
Grinning like she’d been wanting to tell the tale for ages, Ikkaku leaned forward eagerly. “Happened the third time our crews crossed paths. Usually, we try to stay out of each other’s ways so our captains don’t try to murder each other, but we were both after the same treasure. A freak storm came out of nowhere and Killer and I got separated from the group, and since I was injured, we opted to wait for help in a cave.”
“You were hurt?”
“Just a sprained ankle. Nothing serious, but I wasn’t in any condition to traipse through the jungle like that, and with all the dangerous animals about, I wasn’t going to let Killer carry me around and not have his hands free in case we were attacked.”
“Who made the first move?”
“Well, I ripped off his mask and kissed him, but he’d been coming onto me for hours by that point. I mean, a girl can only hold back so long when a hot guy like that’s rubbing her shoulders and offering to share body heat to keep warm.”
Now that was an obvious come-on if ever she heard one. “How was he?”
To Nami’s amazement, a red blush spread across Ikkaku’s cheeks. “Surprisingly gentle, though that might have been because he didn’t want to jostle my ankle. I usually like it rough, but damn, he was such a tease I didn’t mind. Definitely a considerate lover; he even made me breakfast the next morning.”
“Nice. A guy like that at least seems worth my time, if you’re willing to share,” she joked.
“I’m not opposed,” Ikkaku replied with a wink. “Moving on, I’m going to pre-emptively assume that Apoo and Urogue are in the ‘no’ category.”
“Apoo is horrifying on at least a dozen different levels, but I heard that Urouge’s hobby is ‘making love’, so he might have some redeeming qualities.”
Ikkaku nearly spit out her drink. “Where’d you hear that?!”
Chuckling, Nami recalled her own flabbergasted reaction when she’d been informed of that surprising tidbit. “Robin. If there’s anyone who studied up on the pirates of the Grand Line more than me, it’s her. And she always seems to know the weirdest, most obscure facts.”
“Noted. So, what about Roronoa and Straw Hat? They’re Supernovas, too.”
Nami choked on her cocktail, the burn of the alcohol settling uncomfortably in her lungs. “I wouldn’t sleep with Zoro any more than you’d sleep with Law!” Shaking her head in exasperation, she continued, “Sure, aesthetically he’s good-looking, but he’s dumb as a sack of hammers and has even worse directional sense.” Wiping away some of the blue liquid that escaped her lips, she added, “Besides, he’s like my brother, you know? He and I were Luffy’s first crewmembers; if something were going to happen between us, it would have already.”
“What about Straw Hat?”
Shifting awkwardly, the navigator admitted, “Luffy…look, Luffy’s a sweetheart. He’s fought pirates for me, climbed a mountain to get me to a doctor, saved my life at least a dozen different times…I can easily imagine a girl with far more patience than me falling in love with someone as goofy, determined, and loyal as him. But I can’t imagine him having sex.”
Tapping her lower lip thoughtfully, Ikkaku replied, “Yeah, I can see your point.”
“Dare I ask your opinion on the matter?”
“I’d do Zoro, but if he’s as dumb as you say, he’d probably have no clue what to do with an amazingly sexy woman like me. Probably isn’t all the interested in girls.”
“Seeing as he’s the only guy who didn’t spy on me in the baths, I’d say that’s a fair assessment.”
She sighed dramatically. “Such a tragic waste—a guy that good looking, but so utterly clueless. As for Straw Hat, I think you’re right. He’s sweet as pie, but not the kind of guy who’d push you up against a wall and ravish you. Unlike my captain—”
“Jewelry Bonney! Would you do her?!” Nami cut in, desperate to keep the subject off Law for just a little while longer.
Ikkaku laughed. “In a heartbeat! That chick’s wild, so I can imagine she’d be up for a good time. How about you?”
“You know, I think I’m on board with that, assuming she doesn’t stop halfway through to grab a snack.”
“Yeah, the only eating I’d want her to do is eating me out!” Ikkaku cackled before her mocha eyes took on a devious gleam. “I already gave you my answer, but I’m curious about yours—would you fuck Drake?”
“Didn’t you just say Law has dibs?”
“If it’s you—and he gets to watch—I think he’d be ok with it.”
Maybe it was the chance to indulge in real girl-talk without fear of their crewmates eavesdropping, but Nami felt almost giddy. Sure, talking about sex was still embarrassing, but Ikkaku gossiped about it so easily that it was hard not to get drawn in. Or maybe she was still a little aroused from her evening with Law, and she needed to let off some steam.
Taking a deep breath, Nami admitted, “I mean, before yesterday I’d say no—too stuffy and intimidating. But now…”
“He and Law got you all hot and bothered, huh?”
“I honest to god have never been so terrified and horny at the same time. Drake looked…feral.”
Blushing, Nami gave her the details of their encounter. How he’d helped her through her panic attack and been such a shy gentleman, at least until he’d decided to abduct her. How, when Law had been egging him on with his lecherous comments and groping, Drake had gone from hostile to interested, particularly when asked to help teach the wayward Cat Thief obedience. How, despite the bloodlust in the air and the bad reaction to the birth control, she’d found her panties had been completely soaked through after the encounter.
Honestly, she’d never expected to be turned on by a man like X Drake, but now she was sure he’d be the star in at least a few fantasies. After all, it had been pretty hot imagining him with Law. In her mind, the pair went together nicely; Law was cool and collected but eager to tease, while Drake seemed like the sort who’d start off shy, but morph into a hungry beast when pushed too far. Now, put an eager, orange-haired navigator in the middle…
When Nami was finished, Ikkaku blinked owlishly. “Wow. Ok, I know I’ve been trying to get you with Law, but if you really don’t want to date the Boss, I’d be happy to play wing-woman and set you up with Drake.”
Shaken out of her daydream, Nami gaped at her. “He tried to take me hostage!”
“Which could lead to some pretty intense sexytimes. I mean, handcuffs and dominance are a classic for a reason.”
“He’s at least a decade older than me!”
“On the Grand Line, age is just a number, and older men have their charms.”
“He could barely look at me when I took off the jumpsuit!”
“And yet you just admitted that, when Law basically put you on display, that shyness practically melted away.” Rolling her eyes in annoyance, Ikkaku leaned forward until she was barely an inch from her blushing friend. “Oh, come on; indulge me! You’re supposed to be a woman who can bring a man to his knees with a smile and empty his wallet with a wink. Are you saying you couldn’t seduce X Drake?”
Nami nibbled on her lip as her thighs clenched, warmth from the alcohol and fantasizing settling low in her belly. Oh, what was the harm, right? It was way safer to talk about Drake than Law; the chances of seeing him again were slim to none.
“Fine, I’ll play your game, but this,” she pointed between them erratically, “stays between us, got it?”
“You have my solemn oath as a Heart Pirate that if I so much as whisper any of your dirty fantasies to someone else, I’ll tattoo ‘traitor’ across my forehead in bright red letters.”
Pleased with Ikkaku’s sincerity, Nami leaned forward. “So, given how shy he is, I figure he’d need a little coaxing, right? But if the way he pretty much refused to look at me when I stripped down is anything to go by, I’d have to go slowly and start off dressed pretty conservatively.” A wicked thought entered her mind. “I’d dress up as a Marine or something—maybe something like Hina’s outfit. A nice, tailored suit that still hugs me in all the right ways.”
“Oooo, nice. Be sure to accessories with some sexy high-heeled boots.”
“Damn straight. Then, I’d pull every subtle trick I can think of—suck on a popsicle, ‘accidentally’ brush up against him, engage him in conversation just full of double-entendres, offer to help him ‘relax’ if he’s been having a stressful day—basically, drive him crazy wondering if I even realize how sexual I’m being.”
The shameless engineer sniggered. “Damn, girl, playing the innocent seductress card, huh?”
“Well, yeah. A shy guy like him needs to be pushed to the breaking point until he finally just snaps and pins me to the nearest flat surface.”
“You may be just as sadistic as Law.”
Red-faced but pleased with herself, Nami giggled. She was just glad Ikkaku didn’t ask her to elaborate any further—she was feeling surprisingly turned on. She made a mental note to grab a shower before bed; either a cold one, or a long, hot one where she could indulge in her fantasies a little longer. If that dildo her evil roommate had given her was water-proof, she might settle on the latter. “Hey, you asked. So, any other sexual conquests you wanna share? Who else has seen past the motor oil and canvas and been blessed by the goddess Ikkaku?”
“Honey, my sexual conquests would put those books of yours to shame. I once made a guy cum so hard he literally blacked out.”
Impressed though she was, Nami found herself momentarily distracted. It had to be a trick of the light, but Ikkaku’s eyes looked almost blue.
“You ok?” the woman in question asked.
Nami shook her head, positive she’d just been seeing things. “Yeah, fine. The blue light’s just getting to be a little much.”
At that moment, Mandōreku stopped by, studying their half-finished drinks. “You ladies want me to freshen these up?”
“Actually, can you get my friend a glass of water?” Ikkaku asked.
“Water? You sure?”
The Heart pirate frowned at his failure to immediately comply. “Yeah. Water. You know, the stuff people drink to keep from getting dehydrated? You do have that, right?”
“Well, yeah, but it’ll have to wait until I’m done making the cocktails for those girls over there,” he replied cagily, pointing to a pair of women currently making out like they could only breath air stolen from their partner’s lungs.
“I think they can wait,” Ikkaku said blandly, eyes narrowing when he ignored her and went to check on another customer who was practically laying across the bar, clearly having had too much to drink.
Turning to Nami, she gave her a gentle nudge. “Why don’t you hit the ladies’ room and splash some water on your face? You’re looking a little flushed, girl. I’ll make sure there’s a glass of water waiting for you when you get back.”
Part of her wanted to insist she was fine, but when she shifted, her thighs rubbed together and a shocking jolt of arousal shot up her spine. Maybe a quick trip to the bathroom wasn’t such a bad idea…
As she got to her feet, Nami stumbled, ankles wobbling slightly as she made her way to the bathroom. Something seemed…off. She was having a hard time focusing. It was almost like being drunk, but that couldn’t be the case.
“Be back in a few minutes,” she told Ikkaku, though her voice sounded husky and distant to her own ears.
Her friend nodded absently, her eyes having strayed back over to their bartender, who was busy preparing another round of martinis. “Uh huh.”
High-heeled feet clumsy and numb, Nami slowly made her way across the club. It was almost disorienting to step inside the bathroom, with its regular lighting and distinct lack of blue, but she could hardly bring herself to care. At the moment, she was half-tempted to slip into one of the stalls and pull off her dress for a while—she was feeling hot and bothered, and her clingy dress rubbing against her sensitized skin wasn’t helping matters. It was different from how she’d felt in the jumpsuit, though—her warmed flesh wasn’t desperate for cold air and freedom, but for more heat and rough touches and contact with another person’s smooth skin.
For a minute, she imagined Law cornering her in the bathroom, caging her against the wall and slowly peeling off her dress, hands and mouth caressing every inch of skin he exposed, staring up at her with those piercing gold eyes. She may have been fantasizing about Drake earlier, but she knew that when it came to her own satisfaction, the Surgeon of Death was the real man for the job. When she was this ready and willing, she didn’t have time to carefully seduce a shy former Marine—she needed a hot and sexy bastard like Law who knew a golden opportunity when it fell in his lap.
Clutching the sides of the lone sink, Nami steadied herself, even though her knees felt weak and wobbly. What the hell was going on? She couldn’t be drunk! Sure, she’d had two bottles of champagne and the Sour Sunrise at Ruby 8, plus multiple Hypnotiques, but she’d drunk entire taverns dry without so much as a hiccup! And even on the rare occasion she had been more than a little tipsy, she’d never been a horny drunk! But right now, all she wanted was to slip her nimble fingers between her slick thighs and play with herself, or better yet, hunt down a certain captain and ride him like a prized stallion.
Gods, what she wouldn’t give to be back at Ruby 8 with Law. They could close those velvet curtains to the booth, she’d climb on his lap, and he could lick champagne off her cleavage while she ground her throbbing clit against his hard cock…
To her right, there was a groan and one of the women from the large group stumbled out a stall, collapsed to the floor and curled up into a fetal position, hand buried under her skirt as she twitched and spasmed. Nami stared at her, mind sluggishly processing that she didn’t seem to be in pain—her face was flushed and she was panting, but her blue eyes were rolled back in extasy.
The woman wasn’t hurt—she was in the midst of an intense orgasm.
Ikkaku’s advice popped into her head, and tearing her eyes away from the cumming burnette, Nami turned on the tap. Cold water was quickly splashed on her face, the shock allowing her to focus just a little bit more on her surroundings. Her head felt like it was stuffed with lead cotton, but despite the fuzzy weight she forced herself to look in the mirror, gasping in shock as she caught sight of her eyes.
Brown irises had been overtaken by an unnatural, bright blue.
The same blue as Hypnotique.
The sight cleared the rest of the drunken haze from her mind, and cold dread replaced the heat that had settled in her belly. She turned to the orgasming girl, and though the irises were barely visible, Nami could see they also had the same vibrant blue tint.
A horrible thought bubbled up, and she staggered back to the bar as quickly as she could, only to find that, throughout the club, more women were beginning to collapse to the floor with shuddering moans. Only Ikkaku seemed to be upright, though that was at least partially because she was currently being pinned to the edge of the bar by Mandōreku, the bartender’s large hands holding back her balled fists. There was a smoking gun on the floor, probably the tough engineer’s, but it appeared the only thing she’d managed to hit were the glass bottles.
Nami didn’t have time to think—she grabbed a half-empty martini glass and flung it at the bartender’s unsuspecting back, mentally cheering when it shattered between the shoulder blades, startling him enough that his hold on Ikkaku loosened enough for her to kick him in the stomach.
“You cowardly son of a bitch!” Ikkaku snarled, reaching behind the bar to grab the neck of one of the Vodka bottles, just barely missing Mandōreku when she tried to slam it into his face. “The fuck did you put in our drinks?”
“A lovely little drug called ‘uranos’, Miss Heart Pirate,” came a sneering voice from the door.
Nami spun on her heel, fear freezing her veins as Jinzo strolled through the door flanked by his massive bodyguards. Two of them blocked the entrance, rifles in hand and determined glares on their faces.
Taking advantage of the distraction the black market broker’s arrival granted him, Mandōreku grabbed Ikkaku’s arm and twisted it painfully around her back, wrapping his other beefy arm around her throat, panting as she struggled helplessly, “Good timing, Mr. Jinzo. As you can see, your investment is already paying off.”
Jinzo gave a pleased, yellow-toothed smile that sent a shiver down Nami’s spine as his gaze landed on the orange-haired pirate. “I must say, outrageous as your prices are, I can’t argue with your results. Seems your special drink was a real hit. And you even caught me the wretched Cat Thief.”
“Happy to be of service,” the bartender replied, nodding to the rest of the waiters. Immediately, the set aside their trays of drinks and began gathering up the barely conscious customers, carelessly tossing them onto the couches or into a heap by the bar. “Think this’ll be enough girls for your new brothel?”
“For now, but I’m sure I’ll call on you for a new batch once these expire.”
“What the fuck did you do to us?” Nami asked, grabbing a table to steady herself, the adrenaline and danger of the situation barely holding back the unwilling wave of arousal that tried to wash over her. She chanced a glance at Ikkaku, whose face was flushed with pain and pleasure even as she weakly tried to wiggle out of her captor’s arms.
Jinzo seemed amused at Nami’s determination to keep her head clear despite suffering from the effects of whatever she’d been dosed with. “Oh, just a special concoction that induces inebriation and doubles as a rather powerful aphrodisiac. You see, I’m opening up a new brothel, but renovations and paying off stupid pirates mean I’m short on the necessary funds to pay employees. So, I contracted Mandōreku here to open up this little club for a special Ladies’ Night to ‘recruit’ my first batch of whores.”
“You have the money to pay for a fake club, but not to hire legit employees?” Nami groaned, forcing herself to stay focused and not give in to the pleasant haze that was trying to creep back into her mind. Staring at the sleazy man’s terrible teeth helped—they were gross and crooked, just like his business practices.
“For what I spent on this whole façade, I’ll recoup the costs in no time. You see, once a woman succumbs to its effects, she’s completely addicted to physical pleasure. So I can cut back on unnecessary things like employee salaries because they’ll have no interest in money—just a single-minded drive for getting fucked.”
“Captain…won’t let…away with this,” Ikkaku panted, weakly clawing at her captor’s arm.
Jinzo scoffed. “Please, as if someone like Trafalgar Law gives a shit about either of you. By the time he realizes you’re gone, you’ll both be nothing but sex-addicted, mindless whores. Maybe I’ll let him buy one of you back, though I doubt you’ll be good for anything but pleasuring the crew.”
“Don’t forget our deal, Jinzo,” Mandōreku cut in. “I get to keep one chick for myself, and I’m choosing this one,” he stated, twisting Ikkaku’s arm a little tighter. “Feisty bitches like her tend to last longer, after all.”
“Yes, yes, she’s all yours. And since I’ve got the chance to make the famous Cat Thief my star attraction, well, I guess Trafalgar won’t be getting either of you back after all,” the thin man snickered, eyes locking onto Nami. “You cost me a lot of money yesterday, bitch, so it’s a good thing men will be lining up around the block for the chance say they nailed Cat Thief Nami.”
Unfortunately for the black market mogul, Ikkaku and Nami weren’t going to let that happen. The navigator quickly drew her Clima-Tact, blasting a heavy gust of wind at Jinzo and the two armed guards by the door. Meanwhile, Ikkaku bashed her head back against Mandōreku’s face; there was a sickening crack as his nose crumpled against the Heart Pirate’s skull. With her captor’s grip sufficiently loosened, she pulled away enough to slam her heel into his groin, forcing him to fully release her. Leaping forward, she grabbed her discarded gun from the floor, shooting the two thugs right between the eyes before they could recover from Nami’s attack.
“Nami, run!” she shouted, spinning around to slam the heavy hilt of the empty pistol into Mandōreku’s sternum, putting him down for the count.
“Not without you!” the thief shot back, using more wind to launch a few of the glass tables at the waiters to keep them from stepping in. The drug made her legs feel cumbersome and unsteady, taking away some of her natural agility and making real combat difficult, but her determination to not be made a sex slave at least kept her head clear.
“I’m right behind you,” Ikkaku assured, though it was undercut by the way she stumbled as a stray thug took a swing at her. Most of the men in the club weren’t armed, having not expected much of a fight from a bunch of incapacitated women, but this one had been smarter than most, grabbing a shard of glass to use as an improvised knife. He managed to get in a lucky hit and slash Ikkaku across her ribs, the deep cut immediately pouring blood down her silver dress.
“Damn it, don’t damage the merchandise,” Jinzo shouted. Nami dimly realized that was why the guards weren’t shooting at them, and why the waiters were so lightly armed—they wanted the girls alive and with minimal injuries to clean up. Wounded whores probably wouldn’t go for much, and if Jinzo was being so stingy with money, he wouldn’t want to waste his cash on medical expenses.
Using her opponent’s momentum against him, Ikkaku managed to knock the heavy thug head-first into the marble bar, putting him down for the count. “Nami, get out and find Law!”
Nami refused to leave her friend, though. Turning quickly, the navigator blasted Jinzo and his goons with another gust of wind, a storm of bottles, broken tables, and martini glasses shattering in their faces. Taking advantage of the distraction, the pair of women dashed out the door, with Ikkaku pausing just long enough to grab the two dead guards’ rifles.
Unfortunately, that burst of energy didn’t last long, especially for the injured Heart Pirate, and they were forced to duck into a dark side-alley only a block away. “Nami…” she panted, crumpling to the ground, “find Law.”
“I said—”
“Find him and bring him back,” she wheezed. “It’s not a deep cut, but aphrodisiacs stimulate blood flow, so if I keep running, I risk bleeding out.”
“Fuck,” Nami whimpered.
Forcing herself up into a kneeling position, Ikkaku rested the muzzle of one of the stolen rifles on a trashcan. “I’ll hide here; pick off any sons of bitches that try to follow you. But you need to get Law now.”
“But the drug—”
“The longer we stand around talking, the more blood I lose and the less clear your head’s going to be. Now go!”
Though she hated to leave her friend to potentially fend off a bunch of vicious thugs by herself, Nami knew she was right—they needed Law, since he could remove the drug from their systems, fix Ikkaku up, and slice Jinzo and his men to bits. Casting her Mirage Tempo to render herself invisible, the navigator sprinted through the winding alleys back towards Ruby 8, silently praying Law was still there. How long had it even been since she’d left? An hour? Two?
A helpless whimper bubbled up in her throat as Nami darted down another foggy street. Could she not go one day on Grimm without some drug fucking with her system?! What was worse was that the longer she ran, the harder it became to think. The aphrodisiac’s effects were becoming more pronounced, from the way heat pooled in her lower belly as her thighs rubbed together to the delicious way the soft material of her dress slid over her sensitive skin.
The cool air wasn’t quite as effective at clearing her head this time—if anything, it just made her nipples pebble harder, and the slight breeze against her exposed flesh reminded her far too much of the way Law would let his breath tickle her neck and ears.
She needed to find him. Law could rescue Ikkaku. Could remove the drug from her system. Could cure the ache inside her with those wicked lips and dexterous hands—
Collapsing against a brick wall, she slapped herself in hopes of knocking that thought from her head. She couldn’t let the drug distract her from her mission! She needed to get to Ruby 8 and find Law so he…
Whatever plan she’d been formulating vanished from her head the second she heard a deep, smooth voice in the distance. “It should be a couple blocks away. Haiko-ya says Jinzo’s new brothel is slated to open in a few days—let’s see if we can get a sneak peek and draw him out for a chat.”
“We aiming to kill, Captain?” Jean Bart’s voice asked.
“No. Capture him unharmed if possible. I’d hate for Drake-ya to think I have no faith in his torture abilities.”
Despite the cruel words, Nami nearly cried in relief as Law strolled around the corner, the other Heart Pirates in tow. Focus solely on the dangerous captain, she lunged forward, wrapping her arms around his chest and pressing her trembling figure flush against him.
Law stumbled back a few steps, clearly unprepared for an assault from the invisible woman, and Nami felt his muscles tense as he activated his Room. “What the fuck—”
God, even though he was pissed and ready to attack her, his voice was like molten honey. “Law,” she murmured breathily, clinging to his blazer and breathing in his spicy cologne. The masculine scent made her mouth water.
“Nami-ya?” he asked, awkwardly patting where he presumed her head was. “What are you doing wandering around Grimm’s back alleys alone for? Again?” he growled.
The way his chest rumbled with every word enticed her to slip her hands inside the jacket to run her palms across the taut muscles. “I was looking for you,” she cooed breathily, mind fogged with lust. He sounded so mad. Was he going to punish her? Spank her for being a bad girl and disobeying his orders?
“Why are you invisible?”
“And where’s Ikkaku?” Penguin chimed in, brow furrowing beneath his hat in concern.
Why was she invisible? Law needed to see her to touch her, right? He’d want to see her hot and aching for him; see that she needed him so badly. Absently, she dropped the Mirage Tempo before shifting her focus to undoing the buttons of Law’s shirt. She wanted to see those tattoos up close, to trace them with her tongue—
Firm hands grabbed her wrists, yanking them away from her prize. “Nami-ya, what the fuck are you doing?” Law snapped. “Are you drunk? Where’s Ikkaku?”
Why was he asking about another woman? Did he secretly have a thing for Ikkaku?
…wait, she was planning on telling him about Ikkaku, though. Something about her being with someone…
“Ikkaku’s waiting for…a man,” she moaned, eyelids lowered as she pushed herself onto her tiptoes to brush a kiss across the exposed skin of his throat. Her mind was fuzzy, the anxiousness she’d been feeling hard to hold onto when the man she wanted was right there.
“We need more information than ‘a man’, Nami,” Penguin groused, subtly shifting closer, ready to pull her off his captain if needed. All the Heart Pirates knew Law could handle himself against one slight woman, especially since her intent was clearly more amorous than murderous, but they also knew her behavior was far from normal.
Law, for his part, softly groaned as Nami teasingly swiped her tongue across the dip of his exposed collarbone. “Nami-ya, your timing for this really couldn’t be worse.”
“Don’t you want me, Law-kun?” she mewled, pressing her soft breasts to his chest as she rolled her hips against his hardening cock. Really, he’d been teasing her for nearly three months! If it had all been some kind of joke and he left her wanting now, she was sure she’d go mad!
“Obviously, but right now—” Law cut himself off as he finally got a good look at her eyes. Releasing one of her wrists to grab her chin, he peered down into the electric blue orbs. “Fuck. She’s taken uranos.”
Shachi’s eyes widened behind his sunglasses. “Shit, Boss, you’ve gotta get it out of her!”
“Wait, did Ikkaku take it, too?” Penguin asked, grabbing Nami’s shoulder. “Nami, did she—”
Moaning, Nami leaned into the touch. His hand wasn’t as satisfyingly rough as Law’s, but it still felt so good to be touched…
Her euphoria was broken as she was unceremoniously jerked away, both of her wrists captured by one of Law’s large hands and yanked above her head. He took special care to hold her away from his body, basically dangling in front of him, leaving her nothing to rub herself against for stimulus. Needy and impatient, she jerked and writhed in his clutches, legs flailing to try and hook around his hips, but he clumsily dodged, determined to keep the thief at arm’s length.
“Nami-ya, I’m not letting you go until you tell me where my engineer is.”
“Please~” she whimpered, thrashing about, desperately trying to get any kind of stimulation. Her panties were soaked through and her breasts demanded to be touched. She imagined the hand restraining her was replaced with handcuffs—that way, he’d still have her exposed and helpless, but he’d be free to run his hot palms down her sides, caressing and squeezing her luscious curves as he got down on his knees and showed her what that wicked mouth of his could do to her dripping cunt.
“Law, we don’t have time to play around! You know that stuff’s addictive! If Ikkaku—”
A harsh glare from the captain cut off Penguin’s complaints. “I know, idiot. We’ll find her.” Turning back to the captive thief, he studied her intently, though there was an anxious edge to his normally confident tone. “Nami-ya, I know you’re stronger than this. If Ikkaku’s in trouble, I need you to tell me.”
“She’s…” she trailed off, having the hardest time concentrating on anything other than the way his gold eyes shone in the dim light of the alley.
“Focus, Nami-ya. She wouldn’t have let you wander around alone. Is Ikkaku in danger?”
Though the salacious fog encasing her brain was thick, Law’s words and the sudden memory of her friend bleeding but ready to snipe down the men who’d attacked them managed to poke the smallest holes through, allowing her enough clarity to groan, “Drugged…Jinzo.”
“I’m going to make that bastard suffer,” Law growled. “Where are they?”
But the self-control the navigator had regained was washed away by a hot wave of lust. God, Law sounded so fucking hot when he was mad. So powerful and dangerous. She wanted him to throw her down and growl like that in her ear while he took her roughly, make her beg and scream while he pinned her to the wall, telling her all the dirty things he planned to do with her.
“Tell me where she is, damn it!” he snapped, shaking her slightly.
Her only response was to bite her lip and moan shamelessly as she arched her back, thrusting out her chest in hopes of enticing him to lean in and wrap his lips around one of the straining peaks.
Realizing his orders weren’t getting him anywhere, Law changed tactics. Carefully, he pulled her in but left just enough space between their bodies so she still couldn’t get the contact she was obviously desperate for. “Nami-ya,” he purred in her ear, hot lips tauntingly brushing against the sensitive cartilage, “tell me where Ikkaku is and I’ll give you exactly what you need.”
That was an offer her aching body couldn’t refuse. “Venus…cl-club…three blocks west…please…”
“Thank you, Nami-ya,” he murmured, wrapping his arm around her waist as he finally released her wrists. Eagerly, Nami buried her fingers in his thick hair and yanked him down for an intense, desperate kiss, moaning in relief as his lips slanted across hers. The pleasure was short-lived, however, as a sharp jolt to the back of her neck made her body go limp and black creep into her vision.
As unconsciousness overwhelmed her, she felt Law’s lips part from hers just enough to whisper, “Sorry about this, Nami-ya, but it’s for your own good…”

Tumblr media
You had your head on your crossed arms as you rested on the table in the break room, the sounds of the coffee maker buffering out some sounds of conversations you could still hear through the thin walls.
You were exhausted. So damn exhausted.
This was the last time you say yes to covering Christine’s shift.
Something in the back of your mind was telling you that you’d definitely pick up another shift if she asked again, but you ignored it to the best of your ability and focused on hearing the door to the break room open and shut before quiet singing filled the room just as the coffee pot kicked off with the signal it was done.
You tried to tune it out and catch the five minute nap you promised yourself hours ago, but the voice was starting to become extremely loud and trying to sing Dexys Midnight Runners Come On Eileen with as much energy as they had in the original 1982 recording.
Your head carefully lifted up from your arms as you glared hard into the back of Stephen Strange’s head and his dark purple scrubs as he worked on getting a small mug from the cabinet.
Quietly you looked around the table you sat at, seeing a styrofoam cup across from you on the table top.
Well, there’s your weapon of choice.
Carefully leaning over the edge of the table, you reached the cup as you heard Stephen’s singing persist followed by the clinking of the spoon hitting the sides of his mug as he stirred his coffee.
It was starting to become overpowered by the cover of the song he was performing at the moment.
You looked inside the cup to be sure that it was empty and had no little drops of anything in it before leaning back in the plastic break room chair and chuck it right at the back of Stephen’s head.
It connected just as he got to the last verse and was quick to place his mug down and look over his shoulder only to see you.
Your face must have shown your exhaustion pretty bad, considering his reaction was anything but happy and calm.
Stephen’s face was colored with concern before he finally spoke up.
“Y/N, did you just throw the cup at me?” He questioned slowly, raising a brow as he carefully turned to lean back against the counter, grabbing his small mug again.
“Yeah, Stephen. Yeah I did. Sing ABBA or something, it’s way too early for Eileen to come,” you said casually before crossing your arms flat over the table top once more and gently pressing your head into your forearms and let out a soft sigh, starting to try and get comfortable again.
“I thought Christine was working this morning?” Stephen asked softly as he tried to quietly tap the spoon on the edge of the coffee mug before placing it in the empty sink. You huffed and slowly pulled yourself back together to sit up.
“No, she had an emergency and texted me,” you explained, just realizing how exhausted your voice sounded.
You’ve been up for almost a whole 24 hours, now that you think about it.
Stephen hummed in understanding before taking a sip of coffee, nodding a little as he smacked his lips.
“Well, have you tried coffee?”
Your head slowly rolled over to look at him.
“Yes, Stephen. I’ve tried coffee,” you deadpanned, grunting as you started to stand up from your seat. “I should probably get back out there and check on a few patients—”
“Wait!” Stephen said way too loud for the both of you, his mug of coffee quickly meeting the counter top before reaching out for your hand.
You turned around and looked at him confused.
“I uh..” Stephen cleared his throat before wiggling his fingers slightly for you to grab his hand. “Have you ever tried slow dancing to Come On Eileen?”
“Why would you slow dance to an upbeat song that’s about wanting to nail your girlfriend?” You questioned, slowly taking a step closer as you slowly started to lift your hand closer to his.
“Haven’t you ever been to a school dance?” Stephen asked teasingly before gently grasping your hand the second it touched his finger tips.
You wanted to jolt and pull your hand back, but you didn’t.
It felt oddly... comfortable.
“Uh, no, actually. Is slow dancing to songs like that a thing at those kind of gatherings?”
Stephen let out a huff of a laugh as he gently pulled you towards his tall frame.
“Sometimes. Do you know how to slow dance?”
You placed your free hand on Stephen’s warm shoulder, shrugging.
“I guess so. I’ve been to my fair share of weddings. Just don’t kill me with your terrible singing. I have patients to get to once the song is over, Stephen.”
“Please Y/N, you think I would try and kill you on purpose?” He asked, raising a brow again innocently as his hand carefully settled on your waist as you let him start to lead you carefully around the break room.
“Feel free to join in at anytime, I’m sure you’ll kill me before I kill you.”
You scoffed and rolled your eyes, letting your hand shift in his firm grasp before Stephen’s smooth voice started to fill the silence between you both again as he picked up where he was cut off at earlier.
“Come on Eileen, oh, I swear—”
“What he means,” you whispered in response, the both of you starting to laugh as you did the back up vocals behind the main lyrics.
Stephen tried to hold back a remark as he kept singing, the both of you starting to move a little easier and quicker to the beat and taking turns at singing the lyrics while the other quietly did the back up vocals.
Somewhere along the line you and Stephen were trying hard to keep your giggling to a minimum as he held up his arm for you to spin.
That was probably a bad idea.
Right after you spun and finished your lyric, Stephen had practically yanked you back into him, which caused you to slam right into his chest.
You were quietly laughing as you tilted your head up to see Stephen already looking at you as he chuckled.
“You good?”
“Y-Yeah, I think so,” you confirmed softly after you stopped laughing, letting your eyes briefly glance down at his lips before looking back up into his eyes.
He must have gotten some kind of message, since he started to lean in and press his forehead into yours gently.
“You’re not too bad of a dancer, y’know.”
You let out a soft hum and closed your eyes as you felt Stephen’s grip on your hand tighten before you felt his nose brush against yours.
You could feel your lips just inches away from his.
That's when you two both heard the door suddenly open.
“Hey, Stephen—”
Billy’s voice was an interesting thing to hear this early in the morning.
Stephen and you practically flew apart in an instant, you clearing your throat as you started to try and casually walk back over to the chair you once sat in while Stephen accidentally slammed himself back into the counter with a quiet groan.
“Yes, Billy?” Stephen strained, trying to casually reach over for his mug of coffee.
Billy’s eyes just moved between you and Stephen as he held up the file.
“Uh..”
“You know what? This seems important, I have some business to take care of anyways,” you started, forcing a kind smile over your shoulder as you stood up straight after you stopped leaning on the plastic chair to look at Stephen and Billy, patting your pockets to be sure you had everything before letting out a small huff while you started to walk towards the break room door.
“Have a nice rest of your shift, and start thinking about song request forms please, Stephen,” you said playfully, trying to lose the awkward tension in the room as you moved around Billy.
Stephen let out a painfully awkward laugh before holding up his small mug in a small cheer to you.
“I’ll see what I can do, Y/N. Have fun out there.”
You wanted to dry heave at how horrifically awkward this whole situation was.
You just gave a small smile and nod in response before you threw the door open and started to walk out as if you were going down the hall but quickly leaned up against the wall next to the closing door to collect yourself and figure out what the hell just happened.
That's when you heard Billy start to speak up, finally.
“So... you and Y/N, huh?”
You heard a harsh groan come from Stephen before the door shut completely just as you started to really listen in to hear Stephen's response.
Stephen Strange was so close to kissing you and for once you weren't too disgusted about that idea. He could still learn to take a request or two, though.

“D’you need a pencil, love?”
Tumblr media
Part Six || Masterlist
Summary: At Roger’s invitation, you sit in on Smile’s recording session for their album. Tim picks a fight and you discover that nobody says anything less than kind about you and gets away with it as far as Roger’s concerned.
Pairings: College!Roger x Reader
Word Count: 3.8k
Warnings: None!
A/N: My sweets, part six is finally here! I can’t thank you enough for how patient you’ve been with me, I love you all so much. I really hope you like this part. While researching the Smile Era I discovered that Roger dedicated “April Lady” to his girlfriend at the time, and of course I had to include it in this story. I hope you enjoy it, darlings, and thank you again for sticking with me! ♡
“Past Victoria and Albert Museum, take Piccadilly line from South Kensington to Circus station, down Shaftesbury, left on Dean street. It’ll be on your left.”
You mumbled the directions your flatmate had given you aloud, scanning over the sheet of paper she’d written them on before looking up to survey the street before you. You’d made it down Shaftesbury and you were pretty sure you had just made the turn on to Dean street, but it couldn’t hurt to double check.
Satisfied you were heading the right direction, you put the paper back in your purse and started down the street, keeping an eye out for De Lane Lea studios. You’d never been this far from campus by yourself - the only other time you’d been significantly far away from campus had been with Roger - but it was a beautiful day for exploring the city. The bright sun kept the chill of the September breeze at bay, and people milled about the shops while children played outdoors in the little yards in front of the brownstone city houses.
You had debated wearing your new navy Mary Jane shoes that you’d gotten from Freddie, worried that the slight heel would make walking around London a pain, but you’d found they were surprisingly comfortable in addition to pairing nicely with your new outfit. It was a combination of things you’d tried on yesterday - a blue eyelet sweater with a flouncy white skirt - and you hoped Roger would like it.
You were starting to wonder whether you’d missed the studio when you saw “De Lane Lea Ltd.” in big gold letters just a block down, and you checked your watch as you made your way towards the studio. You knew Roger had been worried yesterday about you getting lost, and you’d promised him that if he felt you were taking too long to arrive, he could rally the cavalry and come after you. Thankfully he wouldn’t have to, and you were glad to get there earlier than you expected and soothe his worried nerves.
Pushing the door open, you noticed right off that there was nobody behind the front desk. You looked around for someone to ask where you should go, not wanting to roam around and end up somewhere you weren’t supposed to be. When nobody showed after a few minutes, though, you decided to try and find the studio they were in.
Down the hall off the main room, the distinctive sound of Brian’s guitar was spilling from the third door on the left. You made your way over, stopping in the doorway as you saw a young man you didn’t recognize in the control room, leaning over a huge panel of switches and levels. Past the glass, however, you were relieved to see Brian’s tall, unmistakable form, Tim standing behind a microphone next to him and Roger tucked behind his kit in the corner of the studio.
“No, I don’t like the sound on that,” Brian was saying, his voice vaguely metallic through the control room speakers. He played a few notes and shook his head. “It’s a bit shrill, isn’t it?”
“I was thinking I could go heavier on the intro,” Roger said. “We’d have a strong lead-in and then Tim could take it and soften it up a bit.”
“Maybe I don’t even need to be on the intro,” Brian said. “Let’s try that - you and Tim do the lead in, we’ll see how that sounds. Can we roll it again, Mack?”
The young man in the control room nodded. “Sure thing. Let me change the tape.” He turned and started a bit when he saw you in the doorway.
“You’re not meant to be back here, miss,” he told you.
“I’m sorry,” you said automatically, feeling like a kid caught with your hand in the cookie jar. “Nobody was at the desk. I’m supposed to be - ”
“She’s with me, Mack,” came Roger’s voice; you looked over to the studio door to see Roger coming through, his smile easing your slight panic. “She’s ok.”
Mack smirked. “Ah, so this is your April Lady?”
You felt heat rise to your cheeks even as you gave Roger a confused look, not really understanding what Mack meant. Roger just laughed, and though you had an initial flash of hurt thinking he was laughing at you, the sweetness of the sound quickly showed he wasn’t.
“Yeah, that’s her,” Roger said. It sounded like a compliment but you still didn’t know what it meant. “Let her stay in here, won’t you, Mack?”
“Sure,” Mack said, going back to his work, changing the spool in the recorder. “Sit anywhere you like.”
Roger steered you closer to the couch at the back of the control room, behind Mack’s chair and in full view of the window into the studio. You gave Tim and Brian a small wave and they smiled in return before going back to their conversation.
You drew your attention back to Roger, smiling up at him. “Hiya.”
He chuckled. “Hiya, sweetheart. Sorry I couldn’t come get you. How was your walk?”
“Lovely, actually,” you told him. “I’ve never been to this side of London.”
“We should go exploring one day,” he said. “I’ll take you to all my haunts in the city and we’ll go to all the places you want to see.”
“Even all the touristy places?” you teased.
He smiled. “Yeah, wherever you like.”
“Come on, Rog,” came Tim’s voice through the speakers. “Mack’s got the tape in.”
“Duty calls,” Roger told you apologetically. “I’m glad you’re here, though.”
“Hey,” you said quietly, taking his hand in yours before he turned away. He studied your face, worry across his own.
“What is it, love?”
“What did you mean with the whole ‘April Lady’ thing?”
You were surprised to see a blush accompany his smile. “Oh, um, that’s the song we’re working on right now,” he said. “I told Brian and Tim I wanted it to be dedicated to you on the liner notes.”
You felt a wash of affection for him. “Really?”
“Yeah, if you’re ok with that.”
You smiled. “Of course I’m ok with that, Roger. Nobody’s ever done something that sweet for me.”
He tipped your chin up and kissed you gently. “Get used to it, love. I’d make being sweet to you my living if I could, but I’ll have to settle for dedicating songs to you. Technically the song’s a goodbye to the April Lady, but hopefully I won’t be saying goodbye to you anytime soon.”
You gave him a kiss. “Sorry, Charlie, I think you’re stuck with me.”
You could feel his smile against your lips. “I’m ok with that.”
“Speaking of my song, you’d better go play it,” you teased, wishing he could stay and hold your hand just like he was. “Otherwise Brian and Tim will decide to never let me in the studio again.”
He hummed in agreement. “They’ll have me to answer to about that.” He kissed you again. “We won’t be terribly long. We’ve just got to get the final take of ‘April Lady’.”
“I don’t mind,” you said. “I like to listen to you play.”
He gave you a sweet smile as he untwined his fingers from yours and headed back in the studio, Brian giving him some good-natured groaning about keeping them waiting. You curled up against the arm of the couch, tucking your feet under your skirt as you watched Roger go back to his drums from the other side of the glass. It wasn’t the Smile kit; it was the studio’s, and you wondered if he wished he could play on his own kit like Tim and Brian could play their own guitars.
“Alright, let’s roll it,” Tim said.
Mack pressed some buttons and flipped some switches, the whole process completely foreign to you.
“Take four of ‘April Lady’,” he said.
You heard Roger count in before accompanying Tim on a heavy march-like intro, quickly softening out as Tim started to sing. He had a nice voice, but you couldn’t help but wish Roger could sing lead. The song was about a lady who won people’s hearts by painting pictures for them, and it was terribly endearing to know that Roger had heard the lyrics and thought of you. You absently played with Roger’s necklace that you hadn’t taken off since he’d given it to you.
Roger sang backup for the chorus, harmonizing with Brian and Tim as they sang “goodbye April Lady”; Roger sang “it’s been good to have you around” by himself, giving you a wink. You blushed and smiled back at him, memorizing the way his face was bright with affection as he sang to you.
They went through several more takes of “April Lady,” mostly due to Brian’s perfectionism. Roger didn't’ seem to mind, content to play as many times as Brian wanted. Tim though, seemed fed up with Brian’s constant tweaking.
“Christ, Brian, just play, would you?” Tim snapped after the latest suggestion from the guitarist. “Not every little thing has to be changed. We’ve been working on this song for ages.”
Brian looked a little surprised, hurt flickering across his expression.
“Shove off, Tim,” Roger said angrily, coming to his friend’s defense. “You’ve got somewhere more important to be?”
“Not all of us want to spend the rest of our lives getting the final take of one song, Roger,” Tim shot back. “You and Brian might not have anything better to do, but it’s stupid to get so concerned about a throwaway song.”
“It’s not a throwaway song,” Brian protested, though his voice was quiet. “Nothing on the album is. We’ve worked really hard for this.”
“Some of us, anyway,” Roger grumbled.
Tim gave a noise of disgust. “Don’t pretend you’re not tired of Brian finding fault in everything.”
Brian looked stricken. “I’m not finding fault in everything,” he said. “You and Roger have been wonderful.” He seemed to think that he’d hurt Tim rather than annoying him, that he’d inadvertently made Tim feel inadequate. You could tell that wasn’t the case - Tim wasn’t wounded by Brian’s suggestions; he was just flat-out annoyed with them.
“Most of what I want to change is on my end, really,” Brian said. You’d found that to be true - through the session, Brian was most ruthless in his critique when it came to his own playing. Compared to the criticism he made on what he played, his suggestions to Roger and Tim were very gentle and offered humbly for their consideration.
“And we’ll play with you until you figure it out,” Roger assured him, though he gave Tim a pointed look.
“Oh, lovely,” Tim said, throwing up his hands in exasperation. “We’ll be here till we die, then.”
“Maybe if you wouldn’t fight him on everything he says it wouldn’t take so long,” Roger said.
Tim rolled his eyes. “God, I forgot you were practically married to everything that comes out of Brian’s mouth. Think for yourself for once, would you?”
You could see the flush of anger over Roger’s cheeks as his eyes flashed. “You want me to think for myself, hm? Well, here’s what I think: you think you’re better than Brian and you can’t stand it when he’s right. You’d rather fight him on every little thing rather than just listening and realizing every change he’s made - especially to your playing - has made the song better. Brian’s a better musician than the both of us and you know it, but you’re so vain you can’t stand the thought that someone might have ideas that are better than yours.”
“Aright, Roger, that’s enough,” Brian said. A rosy blush colored his face and you could tell he was a bit embarrassed at how highly Roger had praised him.
“Better keep a leash on your guard dog,” Tim said, spite coloring his voice.
“Oh, why don’t you shut up?” Roger said derisively. “You don’t have to be a total idiot all the time, you know.”
“We both know you’re just putting on a good show for your audience,” Tim said, throwing you a contemptuous glance. “If she wasn’t here you’d have been complaining way before me.”
You flushed with embarrassment, distressed to know that you were a cause of contention between Tim and Roger. You wondered how Brian felt about you being there. You’d been feeling like you were intruding on something private since the arguing started, but now that Tim had confirmed it you wanted to bolt from the room. Perhaps you shouldn’t have come at all.
“Don’t drag her into this,” Roger growled.
“Why not?” Tim shot back. “You brought her here, she might as well see what it’s really like. You can pretend all you like, but I know you’re just as fed up with all this - ” he made a broad gesture encompassing the studio, “as I am.”
“Oh, all this,” Roger mocked. “What, the session? The album? This band? Get a grip, Tim. I’d still agree with Brian over you even if Y/N wasn’t here because he’s right and you’re not.”
“I could say exactly what Brian said and you’d change your tune, though, wouldn’t you?”
Roger rolled his eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself, Tim. I don’t live and die to fight with you.”
Tim scowled. “No, you’re too busy keeping your girl happy and kissing up to Brian to care about anything else, especially not getting a recording down for this stupid album. I’m here to record, you know, even though I’d rather be doing practically anything else.”
Roger’s expression was one of confused exasperation. “So am I, you knob. Sorry you thought being in a band would be all play and no work, but if it takes a whole session to get the song, then it takes a whole session, whether or not Brian’s the one making the changes. And in case you don’t remember all those times you’ve skipped rehearsal to be with one of your dozens of girlfriends, there’s nothing you can say about Y/N being here. I’ve been in here playing the whole time.”
“Much good it’s done,” Tim muttered.
“That’s enough,” Brian said firmly, a flare of anger in his voice. “Neither you nor anybody else can say anything against Roger’s playing. If you were half as interested in this session as he is, we’d have finished this song sooner, but you’ve been distracted all day.”
Tim rolled his eyes.
“Boring you, are we?” Roger asked.
“Oh, well done,” Tim sneered. “Yeah, this is boring. We could have been done with this instead of changing every last thing, and I wouldn’t have had to listen to you two yammering on.”
“Alright,” Brian said firmly. “That’s quite enough out of you. Us being at each other’s throats isn’t doing anyone any good and we’re just burning studio time. Let’s just forget all this and do one more take and that’ll be the one for the album. Does that suit everybody?”
“Suits me just fine,” Roger said. He raised a brow at Tim in challenge. “What about you?”
Tim glared at Roger. “Fine,” he bit out.
Brian gave Mack a tired look through the glass. “Could you roll the track, please?”
You met Roger’s eyes as Mack got it set, searching his face for clues as to how he was feeling.
Sorry, he mouthed.
You shook your head. It’s ok. He didn’t need to apologize.
He gave you a weak smile before turning his attention to the song. Though his smile had eased your worry a bit, you still couldn’t shake the thought that Tim was right. You shouldn’t have been there.
They got through the song perfectly and piled into the control room to listen to the final take, Tim keeping his distance. Roger gave Brian’s shoulder a reassuring nudge as the sound of the playback filled the room.
“Well?” Tim asked waspishly when it was over. “Got anything to add?”
Brian hesitated; Roger looked up at him, worry in his features. You knew Roger wouldn’t mind if Brian had found something else to change or something new he wanted to try, but Tim was liable to fly off the handle.
“No,” Brian said finally, though you could hear the lie in the thinness of his voice. “It’s perfect.”
“Finally,” Tim muttered. He went back into the studio to pack up his bass guitar and was making his way out of the control room before either of his bandmates could protest. “I’ll see you at the show tonight.”
Roger made to go after him, frustration flashing across his face, but Brian put a hand to his chest and brought him to a halt.
“Let him leave,” Brian said.
“You’re just going to let him get away with acting like that?” Roger protested.
Brian shrugged. “There’s not much I can do, Rog, you know that. Besides, it wouldn’t do any good to make him stay.”
“I should wring his neck for what he said about you,” Roger said, almost to himself.
Brian blushed again. “While I appreciate the sentiment, I don’t think we’d do very well without a bass player tonight.”
“We’d do fine without him,” Roger growled.
A smile quirked Brian’s mouth. “Just us against the world, eh?”
Roger softened, an amused glint dancing in his blue eyes. “Doesn’t sound too bad, does it?”
Brian chuckled. “Not too bad, no.”
“What was it you wanted to change?”
Brian looked bashful. “Nothing really, I just don’t think my solo’s as good as it could be. But it’s done now.”
“Well, if it’s any consolation, I think your solo was perfect,” Roger said sincerely. “Really, mate, it’s gold.”
Brian smiled. “Thanks.”
You felt a bit shy at the intimacy between the two, not because you were embarrassed by it but because you felt again like you were intruding.
“I should go,” you said quickly, standing and shouldering your purse. Both Brian and Roger looked towards you, almost as if your words had reminded them you were there. You felt your cheeks redden and wished you’d slipped out earlier.
“You’re leaving?” Roger asked, surprised and almost hurt.
You tucked your hair behind your ear. “I, um...” You shook your head. “I just shouldn’t have come.”
He came over to you, studying your face. “What is it?” he asked. “I’m sorry we got into it, it’s not usually like that.”
“No, don’t apologize,” you said. “It’s ok.”
“If you’re worried about what Tim said, don’t be,” Roger said gently.
You felt a wash of guilt. “He’s right, though. I shouldn’t have been here. I only caused trouble.”
“You didn’t,” he assured you. “It’s not your fault, love. Tim was in the mood for a fight and he figured saying something about you would start one, and he was right.”
“You shouldn’t fight on my account, Roger.”
He gave you a crooked smile. “Nobody goes after my girl and gets away with it, love. I asked you to be here, and you didn’t do anything wrong. Tim’s brought girls to the studio before. He only said that because he was embarrassed to make such a scene in front of you, but it’s his own fault.”
You glanced over at Brian, who was fiddling with the levels as he played the track again.
“And Bri’s ok with you being here too,” Roger said, as if reading your thoughts. “You’re perfectly fine. He doesn’t mind.”
He looked over his shoulder. “Isn’t that right, Brian?”
“Hm?”
“You don’t mind if Y/N’s here, do you?”
“Not a bit,” Brian said, glancing back at you and giving you a smile. “You’re welcome to come to whatever you like, Y/N, and rest assured we don’t usually have a row like that.”
You hesitated, wondering if you’d just come across as silly for saying what you wanted to, but his patient gaze encouraged you.
“I don’t know much about music so this probably doesn’t mean much, but I thought all your changes were really good,” you told him bashfully. “I thought they made the song better.”
Brian practically beamed at you. “Thank you,” he said. “It actually means a lot to me.”
“You’re pleased with your song, then?” Roger asked you with a grin.
You smiled. “I love it,” you said, basking in his pleased smile. You still couldn’t completely shake the feeling of guilt for being part of the trouble, though. You tucked your hair behind your ear again even though it hadn’t come loose.
“You do that when you’re nervous, don’t you?” Roger asked.
You blushed. “Do what?”
He gave you a gentle smile and brushed your cheek with the back of his hand. “Put your hair behind you ear. You don’t have to be nervous with me, love. What is it?”
You shrugged. “I’m... I’m just sorry I caused trouble,” you said. “Maybe if I hadn’t been here, Tim wouldn’t have gotten so angry.”
“I appreciate that you care enough to apologize, sweetheart,” he said sweetly, “but you don’t have to. Tim would have gotten his knickers in a twist no matter what. You’re ok, love.”
“You promise?”
He gave you a gentle kiss. “I promise.”
You decided to take him at his word, as you had both said you were going to try and do with each other. There was no reason for Roger to lie. And if he and Brian didn’t mind you being there, it was probably more of a problem on Tim’s end than on yours.
“Sorry that wasn’t nearly as fun as I advertised,” he said with a slight grimace.
You smiled. “It’s ok. I liked listening to you play. You have a lovely voice, you know.”
His cheeks pinked. “Oh, I dunno about that. But thank you.”
You kissed his cheek, endeared to him. “You’ll have to sing it for me sometime, just you.”
“Really?” he asked. “I mean, of course I will, if it’ll make you happy. But I’d have thought you’d be sick of it by now.”
You laughed. “No way,” you assured him. “It’s my song, and I love it, and nothing would make me happier than hearing you sing it.”
He chuckled and kissed you again, softly singing “she won our hearts, the art she loved was painting pictures for free” as he gave you light kisses all over your face. You giggled and beamed under his affection.
“You want to get out of here for a bit?” he asked, twining his fingers with yours. “We don’t have to be at the Foxtail until seven.”
“I’d love that,” you said. “Where do you want to go?”
“Anywhere you like,” he said. “I’ll be happy wherever we go as long as I get to be with you.”
“Are you always this romantic?” you teased, soaking up every bit of it.
He smiled. “Only with you, love. Only with you.”

It’s All Pros
Tumblr media
Request: Can you please do a peter quill imagine where the guardians come down to earth and meet the avengers? the reader is part of the avengers. when the guardians are having a "meeting" with the avengers, Y/N comes down singing one of the songs from the awesome mixes. and peter falls head over heels and it's all very fluffy. thank you.
Few people had actually seen the inside of Avengers tower. There was a few SHEILD agents, Sam Wilson’s mom, Pepper, and the occasional other hero. Most civilians weren’t completely sure what the point of it was. About one third of the population assumed they all lived there. Another third thought it must be for training and team bonding exercises. And the last third didn’t care what it was for and simply thought it was an eye sore. The truth of the matter is that they were all right; the team did often spend their nights there and they did have a training room and it was a bit of an eye sore. But aside from all that, it held another purpose that wasn’t often fulfilled, a meeting place for other heroes and teams, but today that was the main purpose of the tower.
“How long do you think it will talk you to repair your ship?” Steve asked, leading the Guardians into the living room.
“Two days,” Rocket told him.
“I am Groot.” Groot had to stoop in order to fit in the hallway, which resulted in a long shadow being cast over most members of both teams.
“Yes, I can,” he shot back.
“Most of this you won’t be able to find on Earth,” Tony said, looking over the list of equipment they needed. “But I’ve got something better.”
“I doubt it,” Rocket grumbled.
“Whatcha got?” Peter asked.
“You ever hear of a technopath?” Tony grinned.
“Of course. What kinda idiot doesn’t know what a technopath is?” Peter leaned back towards Gamora and in a hush voice asked, “What’s a technopath?”
“It’s someone who can manipulate technology, dumbass,” Clint told him, shuffling past the group and dropping down onto an arm chair in the living room.
“No one manipulates my ship, but me.” Rocket thrust a thumb towards his chest.
“It is not your ship,” Gamora grumbled, taking a seat on the couch.
“You can trust your ship with them. They’re the best at what they do,” Steve told them.
“IF YOU LIKE PINA COLADAS,” a loud voice sang from the hall, “AND GETTIN’ CAUGHT IN THE RAIN! IF YOU’RE NOT INTO YOGA!”
“And here’s the respected professional now,” Natasha snorted.
Peter couldn’t help but smile as he watched you dance into the room. You didn’t seem aware of the room’s occupants as you continued singing the lyrics to Escape, whipping what looked to be oil and grease from your hands and moving your feet to a beat only you could hear.
While Peter had always been a sucker for cheesy 80’s movies and the concepts that came with them, he had never really believed in love at first sight. Lust at first sight? Sure. Annoyance at first sight? Absolutely. But love? Just wasn’t realistic. Then again, Peter had a problem with being unrealistic.
When you saw Tony, your singing quickly changed to excited, fast paced speech, “Tony! Just the billionaire playboy I was looking for. We need to talk about the jet. I-” The rest of your sentence got lost as you finally became aware that the room was full of faces you didn’t recognize. A blush rose to your cheeks and you realized they must have heard you singing.
“What about it?”
“There are people here,” you said quietly.
“Yes,” he said briskly. “What did you do to my jet?”
“Non-Avenger people,” you clarified.
“Uh huh. What did you do to my jet, (Y/N)?” Tony repeated.
“Why is there a tree with a face in the living room, Tony?” You used your entire arm to gesture at him.
“I am Groot.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Groot,” you smiled politely before turning back to Tony and Steve. “Who is Groot?”
“These are the Guardians,” Steve explained. “We told you about them. Their ship broken down. We’re helping them out.”
“Guardians…” You thought about it for a second, before gasping, “Their space ship?”
“Yeah, and you can’t touch it,” Rocket said, crossing his arms.
“Don’t worry I won’t,” you smirked. “What’s wrong with it?”
The moment the space ship became the topic of conversation, your attitude shifted. The redness across your cheeks faded, you stood up straighter, you exuded confidence. This was your element and Peter could help be sit up and take notice.
Tony handed over the diagnostic report. Looking it over you nodded.
“You, cute guy.” You glanced back up.
Peter gestured at himself questioningly.
“Yeah, you. Take me to the ship.” You returned your attention to the screen. “The racoon can come to. But I’m liable to smack you if you get snippy ‘bout the ship.”
“I ain’t a racoon.”
“Whatever helps you sleep at night,” you said dismissively. “We’ll discuss the jet when I get back. I didn’t break it. Pinky promise.”
“You better not have,” he huffed as you started towards the door, waving for the others to follow.
“Do I wanna know what happened,” you asked, starting down the hall they had just come from, “or is it gonna make me weep for your poor ship?”
“It’ll make ya weep,” Rocket said bluntly. “Dumbass here don’t deserve her.”
“They never do,” you agreed, folding the tablet under your arm. “Are you gonna tell me your names or should I just call you Gaurdian one and two.”
“Starlord.”
“Starlord?” you repeated. “You’re a lord of a star?”
“It’s an outlaw name. It’s cool,” he sounded slightly exasperated like he was going very tired of having to explain this to people.
You shook your head. “I’m not calling you that.”
“Fine. Peter Quill and that’s Rocket.”
You looked down at the not-a-raccoon. “You know, somehow that makes sense.”
“Thank you.” Rocket crossed his arms, clearly not ready to forgive you for being able to fix the ship better than he could. But he followed you into the elevator without any other signs of protest.
“I’m assuming your ship’s on the landing pad,” you said hitting the button for the roof without waiting for an answer.
“Yeah,” Peter confirmed.
You let out a low whistle as you exited the elevator. You had to hold up a hand to shield your eyes from the light reflecting of of the metal of the ship as you moved further out onto the pad.
“Can you fix it?” Peter asked.
“Piece of cake,” you told him, confidently. “Damn. Now I want cake.”
“And you don’t need anything? Tools? Blueprints?” he offered.
“Got everything I need right here.” You pointed to your head and opened the door with a snap of your fingers. The snap was unnecessary, but you liked to put on a show for guests.
“Show off,” Rocket grumbled.
You smiled at him before slipping seamlessly into work mode. Your expression became neutral, professional. Holding the list up, you went over it again, before handing it to Rocket.
“Tell me what you don’t have the parts to fix. I’m not an endless source of energy.” You walked through the threshold, but popped your head back out almost immediately. “You live like this?”
“Yes.”
You gave Peter a disgusted face and moved further into the cabin. Rocket stepped quickly behind you.
“Hey! Where do you think you're goin’?” Rocket shouted.
“I thought I’d start with the engine. It’s that way, right?” You pointed to the back of the ship.
“Yeah, but-” he started, but you cut him off.
“Don’t you have some trash to dig through?” you asked, moving past the common area to the back of the ship.
“Don’t you have some bad music to listen to?” he retired.
“Everybody likes Escape,” you and Peter said at the same time.
“Except Steve,” you added, “but that’s just because ‘adultery is morally wrong.’”
“You’re not supposed to listen to the lyrics,” Peter pointed out.
“Right?” You focused on the engine. Slowly pieces detached, moving out into the open space and floating in mid air.
“I feel like I’m seeing parts of the Milano she doesn’t want me to see,” Peter said, watching you in awe.
“Don’t worry,” you smiled, moving around the tech to inspect it, “I asked her first. She’s cool with it.”
“I told you not to touch,” Rocket snapped.
“Do you see me touching anything?” You looked down at him and put your hands on your hips.
“You’re touchin’ it with your mind. It’s worse.”
“Do you want me to stop? I can stop,” you offered. “You ship will just stay broken and you’ll be trapped here forever.” You leaned towards him, looking at him with an intense gaze. “And Earth is terrible.”
“Rocket, why don’t you go fix the nav,” Peter suggested.
Crossing his arms and mumbling under his breath, Rocket trudged away, towards the stairs.
You slowly made your way through each broken piece, fixing it and then moving on to the next. Peter watched you attentively, completely fascinated. Every time you would successfully fix something your face would light up and his heart would melt just a little more.
Dropping down to a nearby chair, he began regaling you with tales of the great adventures that had lead to parts of the ship being damaged. You were completely engaged in each one despite your unwavering focus on the job at hand. He had never had someone listen to him the way you did or laugh with him instead of at him. Whenever the conversation switched to the missions you had had and the stunts you had pulled, Peter felt that he could listen to you talk for hours.
Just as your concentration was starting to falter and your frustration starting to build and voice from the entrance of the ship called out, “Hey, kid.”
You turned to see Clint standing just outside the ship. Neither you nor Peter had noticed that it had gotten dark out until then.
“Break time. You’ll pass out if you don’t eat something.” He held up a box for you to see.
“Hell yeah! Pizza!” you cheered, bouncing to the door. The ship parts clattered to the floor behind you as you lost you focus.
Peter stared at the pile, wondering momentarily if he should pick it up or remind you that it was delicate machine, but instead he announced that he was going to go check on Rocket and make sure that he wasn’t making everything rodent sized. Again.
Putting your hands on either side of the pizza box, you gave Clint a suspicious look. “How much of it did you eat?”
“None. Why do you always assume I ate some?”
“Because you always do,” you pointed out
“It’s not like you need a whole pizza,” he argued.
“I’m just saying that if you come in here presenting a whole pizza box to me, there should be a whole pizza inside.”
“You know, I don’t have to bring you pizza.”
“I know. Sorry.” You took the box from him. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Clint looked in the direction that Peter had gone, and his expression darkened. “Be careful with that guy, (Y/N).”
“So I shouldn’t take him up on his offer to swan dive off the side of the roof?” you joked.
“I’m serious. He was a criminal. He might be a hero now, but that shit sticks with you.”
“You would know,” you said, opening the lid to the box.
“Yeah, I would.” His tone made you look up at him. “Just don’t go galavanting off to the stars just because he smiles at you, okay?”
“I won’t.” You thought about it for a second. “Maybe. Maybe I won’t. I mean, if he asks, it’s not like I’m not gonna think about. But it’ll be because of ass.”
“Oh, well, then it’s fine,” he smiled, going back to the cheery attitude you were used to.
“No one’s making you eat any ‘nasty Tarren food’, man. Stop yelling,” Peter said, coming down the stairs.  “Hey.” His head appeared next to your shoulder. “Man, I haven’t had pizza in years.”
“Half of this is all yours,” you smiled.
“Half minus this piece,” Clint grinned, taking a piece from the box and making a run for it.
“Are you kidding me, Clint? You’re the worst,” you yelled after him, before turning to Peter. “Come on.”
“Where’re we goin’?”
“You get to look at the stars everyday, but when was the last time you got to see the New York city lights in all their glory?” you asked over your shoulder, leading him around the ship.
“Never. I grew up in Colorado.”
“Well, you get to see them now.” You stopped just shy of walking of the side of the building.
“Wow.”
“Not as cool as the stars though, is it?” you asked.
“Nothing is.”
“You can’t even see the stars here,” you complained, sitting down. “Too much ambient light.”
“I could take you too see them,” he offered.
“Why don’t we start with sharing this pizza, Walkman.” You set the box down next to you and held up a piece. “Then we’ll talk about leaving the atmosphere together.”
He dropped down beside you, leaving the box in between you and picked up a piece of his own. “Sounds fair.”
“How’d you end up in space anyways?” you asked.
“I was kidnapped as a child by a bunch of aliens who wanted to eat me.”
“Yeah, sure. Don’t know why I didn’t just assume that,” you joked.
“You really should have. It’s pretty obvious,” he chuckled. “What’d about you?”
“World went sideway, I built some weapons with my mind, kicked some bady ass. Eventually people took notice.” You shrugged.
“You build weapons with your mind. That is literally the coolest thing I ever heard.”
“Well, I’m pretty cool.” You leaned back on your arms. “I could show you the armory. Between Tony and I it’s sky high with cool toys.”
“Really?”
You nodded. “And I could show you what an mp3 is because it’s ridiculous that you still use a Walkman. Seriously who are you, DJ Tanner?”
“I’m obviously Uncle Jessie.”
You snorted.
He looked back at you.“You could be my Rebecca.”
“Are you using Full House references to flirt with me right now?”
“Depends. Is it working?” he asked, leaning back so he was on the same level as you.
“What would it make me if I said yes?”
“Honest,” he smirked.
“You’ve got an ego on you, buddy.”
“But you’re into it,” he said confidently.
“And you’re into all of this.” You motioned down yourself.
“I am. I’m super into off key singing and weird dance moves.”
“We all have our things,” sitting up straight again and reaching for another piece of pizza.
“You know I was serious about taking you to see the stars.”
You scooched around so you were facing him more than the city. All you could do was look at him. The seriousness in his eyes setting you off. You had no idea how to respond. Going to space would be amazing, it’s literally the dream, but you had just met him and you had a responsibility to help protect Earth.
“No, hear me out.” He sat up again too, moving closer to you. “You love the Miliano - maybe even as much as I do. This way you can see her in action. And, yeah, Rocket might try to kill you once or twice. Three times tops.”
“I’m an Avenger; I’m used to people trying to kill me.”
“See. Nothing to put in the con column. It’s all pros!”
You nibbled on the lower lip, making your own pro-con list in your head.
“What about my friends and family?” you asked. “And the team?”
“It doesn’t have to be forever. You can come back whenever you want.”
He was making a lot of sense. And you knew before he even asked that you’d be easily persuaded.
“Imagine all the crazy awesome shit you could do with space tech,” he continued.
“That’s true.” Your face scrunched up and you looked out at the skyscrapers, thinking it all through.
“You’re adorable when you’re trying to concentrate by the way.”
You slapped his arm. “Shut up I’m trying to think.”
And he did. He waited for you to speak up first, watching you anxiously.
“You’re right. It’s pretty much all pro’s.”
He nodded excitedly.
“And with the way you pilot that thing, you could use a technopath.”
He grinned and nodded even more energetically.
“Yeah, ok! Take me to space!”
Peter jumped up punching a fist in the air. “Yes! You’re gonna love it!”
“We’re not goin’ to space right now,” you laughed. “I’ve got a pizza to finish.”

Cloudy With A Chance
Part 24: …of the uni-verse.
Masterlist
“Again. Slower and sharper.”
He adjusts his headphones and grits his teeth.
Again.
Again.
Again.
It was the fifth time Jiho wanted him to record the same verse again. There’s nothing like repetition and working with a perfectionist to take all the fun out of music.
But he thinks about his unfinished mixtape. His career. His future. He thinks about making Hanbin proud. He thinks of buying that farm and building a house for them. But none of those things can happen unless he just gets on with this nightmare.
And with that thought, he scrolls back up to the start of the verse and spits out the lyrics all over again, slower and sharper.
He wasn’t sure what he thought working with Jiho would be like but it turned out better than expected. Something about being in the half-finished studio made sense, maybe because it seemed less clinical and sterile in its shabby-tech state. But most importantly, they’d both friendzoned each other so completely and thoroughly that he’s genuinely still surprised they ever thought it’d work out in the first place.
Getting along was easy. Producing four songs out of nowhere was just about the opposite. It’d taken five whole days just to get through two of them and they only had five more to figure out the rest.
The rest. Which he hadn’t even finished writing the lyrics for.
"What do you mean you haven’t finished it?!” Jiho asks in exasperation. “We’ve only got a week left!”
He takes his cap off to run a tired hand through his hair. It was getting too long again. He should really get it cut or something.
“I know. It’s mostly done. I just can’t get the last verse to work.” He says dejectedly.
Jiho holds out his hand impatiently. “Let me see what you got.”
For the first time since they started working together, he feels awkward about Jiho reading his lyrics, not because he doubted his ability or vocabularly but because of the subject matter.
But there’s nodding and a few thoughtful hums before Jiho looks up with a bemused grin.
“You wrote a fucking love song?”
He grumbles and reaches out to grab his notebook back. “You told me to write what I know! This was your idea!”
There’s a good natured laugh and slap against his arm. “Geez, relax. It’s good. I mean, yeah the ending needs work for sure but it’s good. It’s cute. Who did you write it for?”
He looks down at the words, soft and heartfelt, even in his terrible scrawly handwriting and soon to be heard in his rough voice.
“You met him.” He says simply, as if anyone could forget meeting Hanbin.
Jiho shrugs blankly at him.
“That day at the supermarket? We were buying cereal.”
Jiho’s eyes widen when the memory finally resurfaces. “Oohhhhh. That guy? He’s still with you?”
He scowls. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Well, I don’t know if you noticed but he’s really hot. And you’re….I mean, you’re okay. Sort of.”
“You fell for it once, don’t forget.” He smirks.
“Yeah but I was young, stupid and vaguely blind. I got my eyes fixed since then.”
He kicks Jiho’s ankles as they both laugh at the ridiculous conversation.
“So things are going pretty well with him huh?” Jiho leans back in his chair with a smile. “Writing raps for him now? Must be serious.”
He nods and looks down at the bare floor under his feet. “Yeah, it’s going okay. He’s….yeah…it’s good.”
It’s funny really. The way he can’t articulate how he really feels in anything but a song. He’s holding a notebook full of words about Hanbin but when asked, all he can think to say is: “it’s going okay.”
“Did he deal with the whole parental thing better than we did?”
He shakes his head. “Nah, it’s even worse. I haven’t told my parents about it. And his...well, they pretty much hate me and we haven’t even met yet.”
There’s a hand squeezing his shoulder firmly. He knows Jiho gets it. He’s been through it all before and came out the other end five years older and ten years wiser. “Shit, sorry I brought it up. At least you know he’s willing to go through this Hell for you? That’s something right?”
He shrugs.
But Jiho is right. It is something. Because who would ever want to go through this for something they didn’t plan on keeping forever?
There a slap against his arm again, jolting him out of his thoughts. “God, you still shrug at everything. You better be more decisive about the backing tracks you picked out. I’m gonna feel so shitty if this song turns out awful. I’ll never be able to look him in the face again.”
But he’s not as decisive as he thought he’d be. They sort and argue through the endless loops and backing tracks until they’re both ready to set fire to the studio.
“No way. No more tweaking. Beethoven is already rolling in his fucking grave okay? We’re not changing it again!” Jiho says with his arms crossed.
He listens to the instrumental in the car on the way home and can only laugh. Jiho was right. It was perfect. It’s what Hanbin sounds like: an off-kilter orchestra. Not happy but not sad. Dark but hopeful. Beautiful but dangerous. Old but new. A classic track.
He can still hear the beats in his head as he lets himself into their apartment, immediately sighing as soon as his feet slide into the shredded Winnie slippers by the door.
Hanbin is already pottering around their kitchen and swearing at the fridge for some reason. He never knew how comforting it was, just to hear the sounds of daily life and know that you belong them. It always calms him and feeds something deep down in his soul.
He leans against the kitchen’s door frame and silently watches Hanbin setting the table.
Hanbin’s wearing those raggedy old clothes he loves so much and he guesses that the faded t-shirt and sweats have both been through several wars and hundreds of spin cycles. But Hanbin could wear anything and still look like a million bucks. When you have that kind of face, everything else is just extraneous detail distracting you from the main event.
“Stop staring.” Hanbin says with a shake of his head. “God, why are you such a creep?”
He pushes off the door frame and rolls his eyes. “Who said I was staring at you? I like our cutlery. I’ve been thinking about the forks all day.”
Hanbin laughs and reaches out for him. It’s the smallest of detail but it’s enough to make his heart skip a few fast beats when Hanbin kisses him softly and leans into his chest.
“Did you have a good day?”
He hugs the smaller body tighter. “Yeah, we finished two tracks.”
“Are they good?”
He laughs at Hanbin’s bluntness but he likes it, the way there’s less and less barriers and walls between them now.
“We think so?”
Hanbin kisses his cheek lightly before pushing him towards the chairs.
“Good. Sit. I’m hungry. We’re eating now.”
It’s later, when he’s doing the dishes, that he realises he doesn’t really mind the way Hanbin directs a lot their life. Where would he even be if it had never rained that day? He’d probably be working the same job for the next 10 years. Rapping would still be a weekend hobby. He’d be in the same place as always. Being directed is okay.
Well.
He’s 90% okay with it and 10% scared.
But one of them had to be organised and it sure as hell wasn’t going to be him.
“So um, the mixtape is going alright? He’s helping you out?” Hanbin asks him when they’re settled in bed later.
“Yeah, he is. He’s really good at what he does. Once his studio is finished, he’ll probably give the major labels a run for their money.”
“When will he have it finished?”
“Uh, I don’t know. Not for ages. It’s crazy expensive fitting out all the electronics and stuff. He thinks it’ll be at least another year”
There’s a tense silence between them and he knows Hanbin wants to ask something specifically. He’s just waiting for it.
“Would you have signed up with him? If his studio was up and running?”
He stares at their ceiling, thinking. “I might have. But….I don’t know. I don’t want to assume he’d want to work with me long term. I mean, helping with a mixtape is different to a business deal. I don’t know if I’d want to mess up our friendship like that.”
Hanbin nods.
More silence.
“Is it weird working with him? After everything that happened?”
There it is. Hanbin’s curiousity always gets the better of him.
“No, it’s not weird at all. We’re so different now. He’s good at this job but he’s still the same annoying control freak I met in college.”
“I thought you liked control freaks.”
He chuckles and leans over to kiss Hanbin’s cheek. “Only one of them. Everyone else is unbearable.”
Hanbin hums in reponse, oddly contemplative again. “It’ll be so weird.”
“What will?”
“When you’re all famous and performing everywhere. It’ll be so weird.”
His heart races a half-beat faster, knowing where this conversation is probably going to go. They’ve been down this road so many times that he can recognise it a mile away.
“It’ll be like it is now. Just with more people knowing who Bobby is. That’s all.” He minimises things, because that’s the only way either of them will be able to deal with it. It doesn’t always work. Mainly because Hanbin knows this game all too well.
“You don’t know that. I think everything will change.”
He sighs inwardly, hating the way uncertainty always creeps into their conversations like this.
“Yeah maybe but the important things won’t change. We’ll still be the same. I promise.”
Hanbin moves away, just slightly. “Don’t promise. I hate that word.”
He’s thinking of something else to say, to fix whatever this is before it gets worse, but Hanbin’s voice cuts through the silent darkness first.
“Sorry. I don’t know why I said that. Just….ignore it okay? It’s going to be fine. I know it. You’re going to be amazing.”
There’s a squeeze of his fingers before Hanbin rolls to the other side and tries to sleep.
He hates this too, the way they sometimes have these non-argument-arguments in bed and sleep on it. He knows Hanbin has this irrational fear that his success will change everything. And not in a good way. He knows there’s a lot of guilt too, as if Hanbin thinks he’s a bad person for even being worried about it.
He doesn’t know how to fix that yet.
Some barriers might’ve been knocked down already but even after 6 months together he knows that Hanbin still doesn’t believe it when he tells him he won’t leave again. There’s always that cloud looming over his head and he can feel it especially strong on nights like this.
He rests his chin against Hanbin’s shoulder and pulls him closer.
“We should get a new apartment with my first rap-pay check.”
Maybe he can’t fix everything yet but he knows how to distract and divert Hanbin’s thoughts until he’s in a better mood.
“A new apartment? Where?”
“Somewhere overlooking the river? It’ll be nice.”
He slides his hand up the front of Hanbin’s t-shirt and rests his palm over the erratic heartbeat. He’s seen Hanbin do it so many times, as if the touch was enough to slow down a racing heart. Maybe it works. It’s worth a try. “And I’ll get you that dog you’re always talking about. What did you say it was? A puggle? What the hell is a puggle again?”
Hanbin’s chest laughs underneath his hand, the erratic heartbeats feel less erratic after a while. “It’s a cross between a beagle and a pug. You must think you’re gonna to be a millionaire, huh? New apartment and new dog? Seriously?”
He buries his face into Hanbin’s neck. “Yep. I’m gonna get you everything.”
“You don’t need to do that. You should get your parents something first. Something nice.”
He somehow always knew that Hanbin would say something like that. He always knew that he chose the right one. This beautiful neurotic mess in their bed. This is who he wants to give the entire Universe to.
There’s a sigh and then a kiss across his back of his hand. “You’re gonna be so great. I know it.”
I’m great because I have you.
**** “Fuck, this really is a love song.” Jiho says in disbelief after the first pass of the track. “It’s even worse out loud.”
“Is it? It’s not that sappy is it?”
Jiho laughs through his headphones. “It’s sappy as hell. That’s why we got Beethoven’s drum beat under it to make it cool again.”
He fidgets in front of the mic. “No but is it...”
“-too much? Yes. Is it a bit cringey? Yes.”
He groans and thinks about trashing the song altogether before Jiho’s voice cuts back in.
“But it’s good, Jiwon. Honestly. We spent two hours re-tuning the backing track, you can’t throw it away now. It’s already good after the first pass, that’s always a good sign something is going right. Trust me, I know these things.”
He shrugs. If it’s Hanbin’s song, it shouldn’t just be good enough. It should be better. “I don’t know....”
“Well I do. You wrote it. You believe it. I can hear it in your rapping. So listen to me and don’t fucking change anything. One day you’re gonna think about this time in your life and you’re not gonna want the clean edited version.”
He tries it again. Then again. Then again. It takes him two days just to lay down the rap track but he’s still not happy with it.
“I don’t like the last bit.” He says when they break for lunch. “That one verse right at the end.”
Jiho pulls his notebook across the table to read through the lyrics again.
“You need a better closing verse. It’s like you go through all this drama but you end with a shrug. I mean, I know that’s your style but it makes the song kinda weak.”
He tries everything to rewrite it. Pages and pages of rhymes and alliteration. Synonyms. Homonyms. Metaphorical. Allegorical. Verses that would be good on any other day and on any other track except this one.
Jiho forces him to focus on the other song instead, to take his mind off Hanbin’s Beethoven Nightmare. It barely takes an afternoon to finalise and mix the other three tracks.
Just one left.
He’s drained when Jiho kicks him out the studio at 7pm but after dinner and a shower, he’s back on the couch with a notebook in his lap and words just buzzing aimlessly around his head.
Hanbin shuffles from their bedroom with a yawn. “Hey? It’s midnight. Come to bed?”
He shakes his head. “I really need to finish this. It’s the last verse of the last song. I need it to be right.”
Hanbin sits down heavily next to him and drapes the blanket around them. “What’s it about?”
“Just a story….” He says cryptically.
Hanbin is so sleepy and tired that he barely asks anything. “You’re always bad at ending things. Can’t even end a phone call.”
There’s a chuckle before Hanbin lays down, head resting in his lap and blinking slowly at everything. “Just say goodnight.”
He runs his fingers through Hanbin’s hair, listening to the final sighs before Hanbin falls asleep.
Goodnight.
Shit.
Why didn’t he think of that?
He picks up his pen again, notebook balanced on a sleepy bony shoulder, and starts writing. His fingers are too fast, barely keeping up with the words that appear in his mind. He’s so tired and has no idea if any of this will make sense by the time the sun comes up.
He only stops when his watch ticks over to 3am. Hanbin barely stirs as he carries him off to bed. The last thing he remembers thinking is, goodnight baby, good night.
****
“Jesus, you look like shit.” Jiho says, sliding over the large coffee.
“Well I feel like shit.” He says, voice ragged and raw even though it was only 10am. “That one stupid verse is trying to kill me.”
“Lucky last though. Think of how good you’re gonna feel when we get all four mixed and recorded.” Jiho says. “This’ll teach you not to get cocky and tell people you only need two weeks to record.”
He groans. It’s too early for any of this but he takes a swig of warm coffee and wanders over to the mic. The notebook on the stand looks a dictionary caught up in a blender. Words everywhere. But it’s in there, that one verse he liked, it’s in there somewhere.
He doesn’t really know how it sounds. Just closes his eyes after awhile, words memorised and waits for Jiho to tell him if it’s too fast or too slow.
After the third pass, there’s nothing but silence.
He opens his eyes and looks over with a questioning eyebrow. “Too slow again?”
Jiho just chuckles and shakes his head. “Nah, you idiot. It was just right. I can’t believe you ever thought you’d be a mechanic forever.”
He shrugs, blinking just to stay awake so Jiho sends him home. “Go sleep it off. And don’t call me until I finish mixing this thing.”
He wants to protest, wants to hear his playback to make sure it’s perfect but he’s too tired to argue now.
As soon as he’s home, he crashes face down on their couch, only waking up slowly when he can feel a warm hand rubbing circles into his back.
“Hey.”
“Hey....I fell asleep.”
“Yeah. You hungry? I got food on the way home.”
He’s setting the table as Hanbin goes to change out of his work clothes but his hand pauses over the lids of the hot take-away containers. Is Hanbin paying for everything? They never even talked about this arrangement. They never talked about how he was essentially unemployed and was just going through his life savings. Maybe he should’ve asked Hanbin if this was okay? Jesus, why was he only thinking about this right now?
“JIWON, YOUR PHONE IS RINGING. IT’S JIHO. WANT ME TO PICK IT UP?”
“YEAH.”
He’s still so disorientated that he doesn’t even bother going into the bedroom to take the rest of the call. Hanbin can deal with it, whatever it is.
But Hanbin comes running out moments later with a big grin on his face. “He’s coming over. It’s finished.”
He sets down their plates carefully, not sure if he heard that right. “He what? Coming over where? Here?”
“Yeah.”
“How can he finish it? I just did the rap this morning.”
Hanbin gives him an amused look. “That was like 8 hours ago.”
Then it hits him. And he looks at Hanbin in horror. “Oh my god. He finished it.”
“Yeah, I know.”
They don’t eat, he’s too nervous. By the time there’s a knock on their door, he’s ready to jump out of his skin.
“HOW THE HELL DID YOU FINISH IT ALREADY.” He half-yells as he pulls Jiho into a quick hug. "Where is it?!”
A plain white CD is pulled out of a bag and placed into his hands. He just stares at it.
His first official mixtape.
It looked so...unassuming.
Jiho punches him lightly on the arm. “Loser, stop staring at it. It doesn’t even have artwork. Anyway, I can’t stay. I need to go pick up my dad for dinner. Listen to it though, tell me what you think.”
He watches as Hanbin comes out to thank Jiho at least three times for coming over and helping them with the recording. He chimes in to be polite but as soon as the door clicks shut he’s already opening the CD with all the patience of a 5 year old.
Just before his finger hits the ‘play’ button on their sound system, he turns to look over his shoulder at Hanbin sitting on their couch. There will be critics, lots of them, but all he cares about right now is making this one person proud of him. It makes him more nervous that he expected.
“Okay, just keep in mind that I only had two weeks to do this. So it’s not the greatest thing in the history of music.”
“Okay.” Hanbin nods.
“And I could probably do a better job if I had all the time and money in the World.”
“Okay.”
“And you should also know that-”
Hanbin walks over, kisses his mouth shut and presses down on the ‘play’ button. “It’s going to be fine.”
He’ll never forget it. The way his heart freezes then beats in time with the first bass line that thumps through the speakers. It was real. This was his mixtape. How did he even pull this off? How did Jiho even mix this so quickly? How did any of this happen?
He’s half-listening and half-watching Hanbin’s face but at the same time, his mind is far away, in some other realm of disbelief.
“Is that really you? Oh my god. OH MY GOD. You sound insane.” Hanbin says in hushed tones before turning to look at him. “I can’t believe you have a proper mixtape.”
“I can’t believe I have one either.” He replies, definitely feeling like he’s having some kind of out of body experience.
The first three tracks were things Hanbin had heard before, longer versions of cyphers he’d performed at various mic nights. But the last one was definitely new. It was the Beethoven Rap. The Goodnight Sonata. That Nightmare Oneverse. He wants to hit pause and say something but Hanbin’s hand is gripping his leg painfully so he just lets it play without any kind of introduction.
No direction for the wicked, no prizes for the tame, everyday turns out to be just the same, just the same
But Winter came with this apple rain, found you through opened doors and window panes
Dragged me into this winner’s game with plans for change, I’m sorry I was just a fool with messy aim
But it’s not for the fame. Bobby’s just another name. Jiwon’s still the same.
So bring me all your pain. I bleed tiger ink for you, no maths can explain.
But there’s no more lost sights now, only bright lights, skin bites and fist fights on my mic nights now
But it’s all good, right
Coz you’re my goodnight, right
So goodnight, baby, goodnight
When it’s over Hanbin’s hands are shaking slightly. He’s staring at the floor with million thoughts in his head.
“It’s so good Jiwon.” Hanbin says quietly. “It’s so good.”
"Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Hanbin stands up abruptly and holds out his hand.
He stares at it, confused. “Um...what...”
Hanbin doesn’t wait or explain, just reaches down to grab the front of his t-shirt and drag him towards their bedroom.
“Seriously?” He says, trying to keep the arrogant smugness out of this voice. “That easy huh?”
Hanbin glares at him as he throws his t-shirt on the ground. “Shut up.”
He’s going to have to send Jiho the world’s biggest cookie basket for this.

Alright, so today’s the three-year anniversary of Reputation a.k.a the greatest album of all time, my baby, the light of my life, the album that deserved a Grammy (trying desperately not to think about the scene from Miss Americana😭), the album that introduced us to the most beautiful couple ever, the album that shut Kimye up, and I better stop now, or else I’m not gonna shut up.
So in honour of this momentous occasion (and the fact that I reached 200+ followers! Thank you so much you guys!🥺 Love you all 3000💙), here’s a loooooong post on why Reputation is the Ethan and MC album.
1. ...Ready For It?
No one has to know
Throwback to MC saying the exact same words back in Miami.
In the middle of the night, in my dreams
You should see the things we do, baby, mmm
In the middle of the night, in my dreams
I know I'm gonna be with you
So I take my time
Remember back when MC asked for Ethan to get into bed right away during their first time? Ethan told them that he had dreamt about the moment for months, so he wasn’t going to rush it.
2. End Game
Big reputation, big reputation
Ooh you and me would be a big conversation
These two dating would be the talk of the hospital, and they know it.
Even when we'd argue, we don't do it for long
And you understand the good and bad, end up in the song
For all your beautiful traits, and the way you do it with ease
For all my flaws, paranoia, and insecurities
Think these lines are pretty self-explanatory😌
I hit you like bang
We tried to forget it, but we just couldn't
*gets war flashbacks of the ‘reset’ phase*😭 They tried to make it work, but we all know how Ch 8 of book 2 went😌
I swear I don't love the drama, it loves me
Perfect for our chaotic MC😌
3. Don’t Blame Me
Do I... really have to explain this one?
For you, I would cross the line
I would waste my time
I would lose my mind
They say she's gone too far this time
Do we need a recap of our rule-breaking MC?
And baby, for you, I would fall from grace
Just to touch your face
If you walk away
I'd beg you on my knees to stay
He was willing to risk his (mostly) rule-abiding reputation for being with MC. And there’s no way he wouldn’t beg for MC not to leave him if he ever screwed up🤷‍♀️
4. Delicate
This ain't for the best
My reputation's never been worse, so
You must like me for me
Ethan stood by MC’s side throughout the Ethics hearing, when her reputation was completely smeared, and people only saw her as a patient murderer. He didn’t know about the sabotages, but he would’ve definitely supported her if he had known.
We can't make
Any promises now, can we, babe?
Commitment-phobia🙃
Sometimes I wonder when you sleep
Are you ever dreaming of me?
Sometimes when I look into your eyes
I pretend you're mine, all the damn time
They spent so much of time apart, not able to be with each other, so the least they could do was dream of being with each other all the time.
5. So It Goes (an underrated af bop)
What can I say... it’s a sex song, okay? Don’t make me go into the details😂 Just listen to the lyrics, and all will be clear.
6. Gorgeous (Tumblr won’t let me put any more links)
MC’s eternal anthem to Ethan.
Whisky on ice, Sunset and Vine
You've ruined my life, by not being mine
We all know Ethan loves Whiskey, and the second line? C’mon!
You're so gorgeous
I can't say anything to your face
'Cause look at your face
And I'm so furious
At you for making me feel this way
But, what can I say?
You're gorgeous
Ethan Ramsey is famous for two reasons. One: his smart brain, I guess😒 Two: HIS LOOKS!!! HE’S GORGEOUS, AND DON’T DENY IT.
And you should think about the consequence
Of you touching my hand in the darkened room (dark room, dark room)
Ah, the olden days of hand holding in the diagnostics office🥺
Ocean blue eyes looking in mine
I feel like I might sink and drown and die
No explanation required.
You make me so happy, it turns back to sad, yeah
There's nothing I hate more than what I can't have
You are so gorgeous it makes me so mad
The wonderful will-they-won’t-they saga. The frustrating hot-and-cold behaviour. The ‘We can’t’, ‘It’s unethical’ and ‘It’s complicated’. MC deserves an award for her patience😓
7. King Of My Heart
I'm perfectly fine, I live on my own
I made up on my mind, I'm better off bein' alone
Ethan ‘I don’t believe in soulmates and nobody’s waiting at home’ Ramsey.
And all at once, you are the one I have been waiting for
King of my heart, body and soul, ooh whoa
And all at once, you are all I want, I'll never let you go
King of my heart, body and soul, ooh whoa
This could be from both Ethan and MC’s perspectives. The love they share isn’t something that you get easily. It’s something that MC has waited for her whole life, and something Ethan never knew he needed, but now can’t live without🥺
Late in the night, the city's asleep
Your love is a secret I'm hoping, dreaming, dying to keep
Change my priorities
The taste of your lips is my idea of luxury
This was definitely Ethan throughout book 2, after he finally gave in. He let go of his previous rules and regulations, especially during the time of the attack. He was clearly affected, and once MC was alright, his main priority was her, and her alone.
Is the end of all the endings?
My broken bones are mending
With all these nights we're spending
Ethan’s been burnt a lot in the past. But all those wounds are now healing thanks to MC.
Up on the roof with a school girl crush
Drinking beer out of plastic cups
They act like lovesick teenagers around each other, like, that’s literally their description if you choose to kiss Ethan for the first time in Chapter 14 of book 2!😅
Say you fancy me, not fancy stuff
Baby, all at once, this is enough
We all know about his initial fear of his mother reaching out to him for the sake of his money. To him, MC not talking advantage of him is a pretty big deal, even though it’s never mentioned. You just know, you know?🥺
8. Dancing With Our Hands Tied
My, my love had been frozen
Deep blue, but you painted me golden
Again, Ethan doesn’t have the best experience with love. But MC changed that.
I'm a mess, but I'm the mess that you wanted
This could go both ways, cause they’re both piping hot messes😬 (but love each other anyway🥺)
The rest of this song could have made so much more sense for them if we had gotten some sort of a secret relationship storyline. But oh well, I’m definitely not complaining about the gala😌 (and definitely not believing any of the supposed cancelled storylines)
9. Dress
Our secret moments
In a crowded room
They got no idea
About me and you
I mean... pretty obvious😌
Even in my worst times, you could see the best of me
And I woke up just in time
Now I wake up by your side
My one and only, my lifeline
This is practically Ethan’s train of thought, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
As for the rest of the steamier lyrics... I’ll um... let you guys listen to it yourselves😁
10. Call It What You Want
I wrote an entire fic inspired by this song, so excuse me for the shameless self-promo, but go give it a read?🥺👉👈(totally fine if you don’t! I’ve probably made so many posts about this song that y’all know the meaning anyway😅)
11. New Years Day
Don't read the last page
But I stay when you're lost and I'm scared and you're turning away
I want your midnights
But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day
MC has always stayed by Ethan’s side, even when he’s pushed her away. These lines perfectly explain how she wants his worst times, and his best, the midnights they spend staying up together, and the moments where it’s just the two of them, when everyone else has left, like the aftermath of a New Years party (still mad at the fact that we didn’t get to see the gang celebrate New Year together😭)
I'll be there if you're the toast of the town babe
Or if you strike out and you're crawling home
The above explanation for these lines as well.
Please don't ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
Becoming strangers to each other would be their worst nightmares. Knowing that the other was out there in the world somewhere, but not being in their lives would kill them.
You and me forevermore
These two are each other’s soulmate, they know it, even if they haven’t said it yet. Forever wouldn’t be enough for them to shower each other with they love they hold for each other. But it’s a good start.
——————————
If you guys made it this far, then I honestly love you more than words can ever express🥺💙 Thanks for putting up with my Swiftie-Directioner-Ethan stan ass, cause I dunno if I’d ever be able to handle someone like myself. And if you read all the above stuff, then I hope you wanna know why this album means so much to me.
Reputation is perceived as a dark album, when in reality it’s truly about finding love amongst all the noise. This album, and Taylor and Joe’s story, taught me what true love actually is, and Ethan and MC cemented that. This album and these two couples (quite literally) saved my life.
The most beautiful part about both these relationships is that even though they never showed it openly, for the sake of their relationships, both Ethan(in the story) and Joe stood by the side of the one’s they loved, despite half of the people who they knew hating on them, or betraying them. And I think that’s what’s truly important. Forming a true relationship like that, be it platonic or romantic, is long lasting, and I hope everyone finds those kind of people to fill their hearts with. Sending much love, and sorry for being a huge sap😅💙

A Final Goodbye
Tumblr media
This blog is turning one year old! And to celebrate it, I will be closing stylessemantics.tumblr.com! So this is my goodbye letter!
If you’re reading this, my blog is officially one year old (is it July 10th already?) Yes future me, it is! And here is why, if you even care. If you don’t then well... I can’t really blame you.
If you don’t want to read all the way to the end: Monday July 10th will be the last day I’ll be around, until exactly 11:59pm. Happy reading!
And if you’re reading this it also means you’ve clicked to read more! Thank you.
So stylessemantics is a year old. Wow. Time flies. I would know because if you’re reading this it means I’m stepping off.
I guess I should start at the beginning?
Stylessemantics was always a one year project to me. Or at least that’s how it started. I thought I could do this to sort of improve my writing skills, to try something new, to meet new people, to do something fun. And it was! I mean I don’t know if my writing got any better, to me it got a lot worse, or maybe that was just my mind getting worse. IDK.
On the road, stylessemantics turned into so much more. I would be away for a day and I’d miss it so much. I wanted to come back. It became a little safe haven where I could be me, or try to be a better version of me, and possibly failed as well, and where I had something interesting going on for once. Now I don’t want this to be a very sad letter but you guys know me, I’m the sour-patch of every party. (maybe that’s why i never get invited to any hmmm)
All jokes aside this year has been a rollercoaster in every sense of the word. (guys we got solo harry can you believe that? I still can’t) At some point I found myself thinking “I could keep stylessemantics, this doesn’t have to be a one year thing, it doesn’t have to be an experiment” and let me tell you those days were pretty much eternal. I was on a high pretty much all the time. I was so in love with tumblr. Don’t take this the wrong way, I still love it to bits and it’s turned into something kind of vital to me. But the good days didn’t last. If they had; you wouldn’t be reading this now.
So yeah, I thought about saving all my works of fiction and taking the whole blog down and well I didn’t plan well enough to make stylessemantics a sideblog that i could just password protect and secretly keep. So it was final: stylessemantics was going to be deleted. And I was okay with that for the longest time. I never thought I would be so shit at keeping promises that I’d have 15+ requests in my inbox back from 2016, still unwritten. And with an 8 chapter fic still stuck on chapter 6. And with 700 promises to AU’s and things I wanted to write. It’s safe to say those promises were made on the days I thought I would keep stylessemantics. But as of today (sunday, july 9th, 2017) it’s been a bad bad bad day. I’ve been dancing around the delete blog for the longest time but I decided that was a bit unfair.
Now I don’t think I’m anything interesting for anyone to be reading this (if you are, wow, makes me wanna reconsider staying lol) so i know a lot of people are going to like this without even reading what’s going on, but I still thought “hey I’ve made some friends... and only 3 of them know that stylessemantics was probably going to die in July” so it was a bit unfair to just up and leave. So at least there’s a letter, right?
Anyways, I guess there’s no real explanation as to why stylessemantics was a 1 year thing for me, why did i decide that and why my mind wandered between making it a 2 (3,4,5 who knows how many) year thing or not. There’s no explanation really, so I can’t fully give you one, but what I can say is that I’m insanely grateful for the good days this big ol’ blog gave me. And by that I mean you reading this. No matter what, stylessemantics was something important to me, and it changed me even if it was just a bit. So for that I’ll be forever thankful. And I say this a lot but I want you to know I mean it. All the time.
I don’t deserve it. Call it my depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, self-love issues, whatever one of those I have (aka all) but I feel very undeserving of such a loving community. I never got a single hate comment and to be honest I was scared and tiptoeing around everything too much to get any but oh well, I’m going to act like that’s just y’all being nice to my fragile mind. For my poor mind’s sake lol.
Now I did say that 3 of my friends knew about this thing, and well they all talked me through sad days where I wanted to just erase this blog from existence and helped me get to a final decision. Stylessemantics won’t be deleted. I’m much too attached to little pieces of paper and old photos and whatever to not be extremely attached to this blog and conversations I’ve had in it and stuff like that. And I know myself well enough to know I’ll regret deleting. (i deleted my first instagram 2 weeks into college and I’m still sour about it...) I’ll regret not having at least screenshots of beautiful messages and nice song lyrics that being on tumblr have inspired and other wonderful things. That plus the fact that I’m still not 100% sure if I want to leave stylessemantics for good (can you cound how many times I’ve written stylessemantics? wow I have to stop) or not, well... The decision is that this blog won’t be deleted. It won’t be deactivated. (if i could close it without losing my tumblr url and account that would be grand, but I can’t cause this is a main blog. Iv didn’t think this through back in 2016)
This blog will still be here. Saved. Untouched. With its open inbox, open submit page and open messenger. With its masterlist still up, and with its pretty rose quartz and serenity blue theme. The only difference is that this is going to be the last post on it. I won’t be here. There will be no one responding. And maybe, one day, I’ll stumble upon something weird that will remind me of this and I’ll think “do I want to continue stylessemantics?” and maybe I’ll come back peeping my little eye emoji.
I want to make a promise that I’ll come and post the reminder of BIM and the Marcel fic and all of those requests I never got to fill. But we’ve been at this for a year. I’m simply the worst person when it comes to writing and keeping my writing promises (i was gonna say I’m the worst at keeping promises in general but even with my below-7th-level-of-hell-self-esteem and lower-than-minus-70-degrees-self-love, I can say I DO keep all my promises, just not the writing ones. whooops.)
Some promises I will keep tho:
I’ll still love every single one of you.
I’ll still be around tumblr on another account (winkwink) so I’m still reading my mutual’s works and supporting my peeps. If you spot me, come say hi, but don’t ask me to write or bring back this blog.
I’ll always be undeserving of every single ounce of love or attention I receive here or on any other blog I move to, for the remainder of my days on this earth.
I will try to better myself and my writing. (and seek professional help for my issues. Finger’s crossed)
i will try to have something new to post if I ever come back (fanfic related)
I will always love Harry.
stylessemantics will most likely be back, even if it’s just to say happy new year, or wish my own self a happy birthday (that’s sad, forget that one)
I’ll come post a selfie when I graduate college, I swear.
I’ll be around until the end of the day (July 10th) and then I’ll post this again and it will be the finishing line of this blog.

right as rain, soft as snow (part ii)
hey guys!! just wanted to let you know really quick that the mood of this story is based heavily off these three amazing songs:
mOStly this song: Promise by Ben Howard
Saturn by Sleeping at Last
From the Ground Up by Sleeping At Last
so listen to em while you read. they’re absolutely beautiful. you won’t be disappointed, saturn has a pretty long intro so stick with it. it’s the lyrics that count! ENJOY!
pairing: spider-man x reader/peter parker x reader
warnings: none currently!
word count: 3,788
summary: in which the reader is an avenger and a whole lot happens before peter finds out about it. drama ensues.
______________________________________________________________                “This is just another mission.” Natasha promised you as the two of you crossed the Queensboro bridge in a new car that was bought under a fake name. “That’s just what you have to think of it as, okay?” She asked softly, taking a hand off the wheel to rub your shoulder very briefly. “Remember the mission we did together in Luxembourg?” The two of you laughed over the memory, and you nodded your head slowly.
“Yeah, okay. I can try.” You murmured back to her, looking away from the water that separated lower Manhattan from Queens to your gloved hands. The gloves were black, skin tight, ended just below your palms. They looked high tech, because they were high tech. But Tony had tried his best to make last minute alterations to make them just look like regular spandex gloves, but there wasn’t that much that he could hide.
Natasha noticed you looking at your hands, and continued your briefing. “Your name is now ______ ______. You’re seventeen years old, and since you are seventeen, we didn’t have to change that. You are a senior in high school. You have been homeschooled your whole life, so this whole public school thing is very different for you. You are taking Advanced Chemistry 2, Russian,” Natasha lifted her sunglasses and gave you a wink, “Calculus, and Exploration Art. Only four classes because you have block scheduling.” She paused her words to make a right turn once you had crossed over Queensboro. “You have a skin condition on the back of your hands that is painful and you are extremely insecure about. Teachers can’t make you take them off, and you will never, under any circumstance, have to take your gloves off.”
You visibly relaxed, sighing softly and closing your eyes. You leaned your head against the window as Natasha made a stop at a red light. “So there’s no risk?” you asked softly, turning your head to look at her, with her surprisingly realistic blonde wig and sunglasses.
She shrugged softly, smiling sadly. “______, there’s always a risk, you know that. Though now that you get to keep your gloves, it’s much smaller. So don’t be so scared, okay? You won’t hurt anyone. You won’t.”
You were silent as you fiddled with your fingers, listening to the fabric over them rustle together. You closed your eyes, taking deep breaths; listening to her words and trying your best to believe them. You wouldn’t hurt anyone. You promised yourself and your teammates that you wouldn’t hurt anyone, even if they all knew that it was an accident. That you hadn’t meant to do it.
You brought your hands up to your face to hide it, taking deep breaths and telling yourself that it was all okay and that you wouldn’t cry. You were better than that. No crying. You slapped your hands down and rubbed them up and down your thighs to calm yourself. You looked up as a big yellow school bus passed your car, and you swallowed thickly. You were almost there.
“You’ll be okay, ______.” Natasha whispered, and you looked up at her with doubtful eyes. “You’re no different from all those kids in that school. Except the obvious. Look, ______, I know how difficult your life was before we got you out of Arizona. I know what you went through. I understand. I know that my life was very different from yours in different ways, but I understand. I know that Steve also understands, also being a S.H.I.E.L.D. experiment. I know that’s why the two of you are so close.”
You stared out the window, not wanting to listen but also wanting to hear what she had to say. You knew that if she went on you would cry, because you always cried when you had to remember about the past.
“I know not enough people tell you they understand.” Natasha whispered finally as she slowly pulled up to the high school.  You could feel your heart pounding out of your chest as you glanced back to Natasha. “I know it’s hard. But you’re the toughest person I’ve ever met. You can do this. Have a good first day at school.”
You smiled with watery eyes at the woman in the seat beside you and grabbed your bag, stepping out of the car and staring at the school with an extreme nervousness in your heart. You turned to Natasha one last time. “You can do it, ______.” She whispered, smiling widely at you. “Have a good day at school, honey! See you later!” You nodded and shut the door, and she waved one last time before driving off; most likely so you couldn’t change your mind about school.
You turned back towards the school, staring out over the expanse of the front “lawn” of the school as to speak, at all of the kids your age, walking into school. Laughing with their friends. Making fools of themselves trying to impress each other. And you were terrified. You took slow steps towards the school, staring down at a pair of light jeans and your black hoodie. You held your backpack tightly to your shoulders, going up the stairs and into the school. This was the first time in a while since you had really been without the Avengers, and you were trying not to let that get to you. You stood towards the edge of the hallway, watching as kids filed through the doors by the masses.
Surprisingly, you did not mind crowds. They took away a lot of the loneliness you felt. You were hidden in crowds, you weren’t alone. You felt slightly better thinking that way. You took a deep breath, clearing your head as you looked towards a big door in the side of the hallway with a sign above it that said “Main Office.” You headed for that, pushing the door open and stepping inside, sitting down at the nearest seat. You watched the woman at the front desk mess with some papers before looking up to you.
“How can I help you, hun?” she asked, pushing her glasses higher up her nose.
You stood, taking a step over and leaning your arms against the counter, flinching slightly as the first bell rang. “Hello, my name is ______ ______?” you asked, fiddling with your fingers. The woman looked quizzically at your gloves before standing to go look in her file very briefly. “I’m new here.. And I need my schedule.” She opened the Manilla folder, nodding her head slowly and glancing back to your hands.
“You have a skin condition, is that correct?”
You nodded your head slowly with a small smile. “My medical records should be in there.” You murmured back. Of course, those were all fake.
“As they are. You have Chemistry, first. Here is your schedule – I’ll call down for someone to take you to your class.” You took the paper gratefully from her, smiling your best smile, no matter how nervous you were. “Hello, Mrs. Warren; can you send someone down from your class to bring a new student over? Thank you.” You heard her say into the weird radio looking thing that she spoke into, and watched her as she turned back to you with a polite smile. “Sit for a while, hun. Someone will be here soon.”
You nodded and sat, placing your bag beside you and staring down at your hands, closing your eyes and praying to a god that you didn’t believe in that everything would be okay. You looked up as the door opened, staring up at the boy that entered with what you could only assume was a hallway pass in his hand. “Good Morning, Ms. McKinnon!” he said cheerily, and oddly, his voice sounded very familiar. He turned to you sitting in the chair and his eyes widened, his jaw dropped, and for a moment he was silent. Until he snapped out of it. What was his problem?
“Hi,” he quickly said, watching as you grabbed your bag and slung it over your shoulder. “My name’s Peter. Peter Parker. Nice to meet you. You’re new here?”
You nodded softly as the two of you began to leave the office, and you gave the small woman at the counter a wave before the door shut behind you. “Yeah. My name’s ______. It’s nice to meet you, too.” You smiled over at him, staring down at your shoes for a few moments as you walked. Silence passed between the two of you, before you decided to keep speaking and try to make a friend. “I’ve been homeschooled most of my life.” You brought up, and you smiled as he looked over to you with interest. “Yeah. I’ve never been to school before. It’s all honestly a little overwhelming.”
He nodded softly. “I totally understand. I’ve been going to school all my life and I’m still overwhelmed!” You laughed at his joke, finding that his voice gave you a surprising amount of comfort. “Anyway, your schedule here says your locker number. Do you want me to take you to your locker first so you don’t have to carry everything around? And hey! We have Calculus and Art together. How about today, I’ll drop you off at your Russian class and then at the end I’ll come and get you so we can walk to Calculus together. Does that sound okay?”
You nodded your head, unable to stop your smile. “Sounds perfect.” You answered softly, bringing your hands away from your straps and in front of you as you lightly itched at your inner arm. You noticed Peter’s eyes trail towards them.
“Why do you wear those gloves?” he asked, the curiosity in his voice sincere. “If you don’t mind me asking, of course.”
You shrugged softly, feeling your heartbeat kick up when he asked you. “I have this skin thing.” You lied easily, looking from your hands and back up to him. “I wear these gloves because I hate looking at it. And it stops me from picking at it, too.”
He nodded in understanding, smiling warmly back over to you. “Well, they’re a really cool pair of gloves.” He murmured back, and you felt your heart melt at how kind he was being to you. You had never experienced this sort of kindness from a stranger before. You felt yourself starting to trust him, but you didn’t want to. You know that you couldn’t trust him – you couldn’t trust anyone. It took you almost a year to trust the rest of the Avengers, but for some reason, you wanted to be by this kid’s side at all times. For some reason, you really and truly believed that he was special, and kind, and that you should trust him. Something in your gut told you that he was okay, and that he was really a nice guy. You decided to roll with that feeling rather than push it away.
After a few turns in the hallway and a few quick chats about the classes the two of you were taking together, he stopped in front of a row of lockers. “Here’s your locker.” He said simply, placing his hand on the dark blue metal. “And here’s your combo.” He handed you the small piece of paper with your combination on it. You quickly opened your locker and looked over at Peter as he started taking steps backwards. You furrowed your eyebrows at him as you grabbed what you were pretty sure you would need from your bag. “And guess where my locker is?” He asked excitedly, placing his hand on a locker at least five down from yours. “Right here! We’re practically locker neighbors.” You smiled and laughed, and you noticed quite visibly how great it made him feel that he could make you laugh. You noticed the way his gaze softened, how his lips turned upwards in a small, crooked and yet completely adorable smile. God dammit.
“Now, come on. Let’s get to Chemistry, yeah?” He asked, taking a step so he was by your side, holding his elbow out for you to take. He smiled over at you, his eyes beaming. “Shall we, your Majesty?”
You laughed, unable to stop the widest smile of your life from coming onto your face. You wrapped your hand around his arm, holding a notebook and a pen clipped to the front cover of it in the other arm. “We shall, Sir Peter.” You responded, the laughter bubbling out of you. You were happy. You had made a friend. Even though you knew that you shouldn’t have, you had made a friend.
Eventually you moved your hand away from his arm so the two of you could walk up the school steps, and you were silent; listening to the echoing of your footfalls in the large stairwell. “I sit in the back in Chemistry. With my last name starting with P and all.” The two of you laughed. “There’s some extra seats. You can sit next to me – if – if you want to, of course.”
“Sure,” you responded as you made it to the top of the stairs and then made a left, “That would be nice.”
You went up to the door and Peter grabbed the handle, twisting the knob and opening the big classroom door. Everyone in the classroom turned and stared at you. You felt your heart pounding as you walked into the room, wishing more than anything that you could take off those gloves – that you could remove what made you obviously different from the rest of the students there.
“Ah, you must be ______!” The teacher greeted, walking over to you and holding out a hand for you to shake. You stared at it for a moment, begging that nothing would happen, and held out a hand and reciprocated the shake. You let out the breath you hadn’t realized you were holding when she pulled away and nothing had gone wrong. She looked down to your gloves as she shook your hand and her smile faltered slightly. She cleared her throat and continued. “I’m Mrs. Warren, I’ll be your Chemistry teacher.” She turned to the class. “Everyone, this is ______. She’s transferred in so I will expect only kind intentions, do we understand?”
The class monotonously answered their agreements, and Peter motioned for you to follow him to the back of the class, taking the only free seat – the one right behind him. He turned to look over at you and you smiled softly, still noticing a lot of your new classmates looking over to you. You quickly placed your gloved hands in your lap.
The teacher began to talk about Chemistry and continuing her lesson on the advanced balancing of equations – which you had already learned. With S.H.I.E.L.D. You closed your eyes. You couldn’t allow every word at school to trigger some sort of memory with S.H.I.E.L.D., or you would be a mess by the end of the day. You took a deep breath through your nose, opening your notebook and beginning to write.   -                   Class had ended surprisingly sooner than you thought it would, and you were knocked out of your concentration when the bell rang for the next class to begin. The teacher was offering praise for a good lesson and yelling out homework as kids left through the door. You walked behind Peter as you made your way to the head of the classroom.
“______, wait!” The teacher called, reaching behind your desk to hand you a Chemistry textbook. “Here you go – you’ll need this.” She muttered, “I hope you have a good first day of school.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Warren.” You smiled, turning towards the door to see a smiling Peter waiting for you at the door. You took a hand out and shoved him playfully – and for someone that you just met, you were surprised at how much you actually trusted him. You shouldn’t. You shouldn’t trust this stranger. But you had never had a friend before, and you were happy to have one.
“Your Russian class is downstairs,” Peter said softly, looking at your schedule as the two of you headed down the stairs, “And so is my Physics class. So I’ll come and get you once it’s over, okay?” He asked, and the two of you stopped in front of your next class. “You’ll be okay. I’ll be back to bring you to our Calculus class. See you later, ______!” he called, smiling and waving, turning and walking down the hallway by himself. You wondered if he usually walked by himself every day.
You turned and walked into your next class before too many students had gotten there, introducing yourself in Russian to your Russian teacher – thanks to Natasha and S.H.I.E.L.D. – and smoothly went and sat down at a desk in the back.
Peter came and picked you up and the two of you walked up the stairs smiling and talking about different things. Peter was shocked to hear that you had never seen that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back, or something or another. You thought his outrage and surprise was hilarious. Calculus went smoothly as well – there were no problems and you sat in the back with your new friend. You walked to the Art room together, where you pretty much just painted smiley faces on each other’s arms and hands for eighty minutes. The teacher didn’t care; Peter said that he thought Mr. Jaymes, the teacher, was ‘high.’ That was a new word to you, as well.
Eventually, school was over, and it was time for you to get back home. You waved goodbye to Peter, smiling and saying that you would see each other the next day. Of course, not before getting his number, first. Natasha said she couldn’t pick you up from school – so you walked home over the Queensboro bridge, just as you had the night before. You walked into Stark tower, giddy beyond belief, so excited to tell your teammates at the friend you had just made.
You asked FRIDAY to take you up to the common rooms, where you were sure everyone would be waiting for you, and stepped out to see the team staring at you with expectant gazes.
You were smiling and you set your backpack down, rubbing your hands together excitedly. “I made a new friend.” You murmured, happy at your very small accomplishment. Some seemed happy for you, others’ faces fell.
“You what?!” Tony almost yelled, making your smile falter. “______, this is supposed to be a mission for you. You’re not supposed to trust anyone. Now that you have a friend they’re going to want to go over to your house and hang out with you, and walk home with you and – what were you thinking?!”
You stared down at the floor, straightening your back and trying your hardest not to be upset. “I’m sorry, Tony.” You whispered, taking another deep breath.
“She has to live on her own now. In an apartment in Queens.”                 “Tony, don’t you think that’s a little drastic?” Natasha began, looking up at the pacing billionaire from the couch.
“Of course not. We can’t risk anyone from her school coming near here and seeing her walk into Stark Tower. It will completely ruin her cover – her name will be all over New York with rumors about the Avengers. Then the government will know. Then everyone will know.”
You were silent, not really liking the idea of living on your own, although you would do what you needed to do. You understood that you were blowing your own cover by trusting someone.
“Besides, we all know she’s lived on her own, before. When she ran.” Tony murmured, plopping down on the couch, and you couldn’t help but feel hurt at his words.
“Don’t listen to him.” Wanda sent to your head, and you smiled gratefully at her.
“Okay, Tony. I can handle it. I’ll live in Queens and I’ll show up to visit occasionally. If someone sees me walking into Stark Tower, I’ll say I work here. I’ll say that I’m a maid part time.”
Tony thought about it and nodded his head. “I’ll go buy the apartment under the fake name. You pack your bags.”
So you went up to your room and grabbed the luggage from the closet, packing mostly all of your clothes into the suitcases. You sighed softly, surprised at how quickly you had done it. You looked around your room – you had no decorations to take with you.   You brought it all back down to the common room, where everyone came up to say goodbye to you. “I’ll come over twice a week, okay?” you asked, trying to make light of the situation, and everyone nodded and smiled.
“I’m sorry, Shockey.” Tony murmured, handing you the address on a slip of paper and referring to you as your team nickname. “Visit more than twice a week, okay? This tower won’t be the same without you.” You nodded, giving them all hugs goodbye. Steve offered to help you bring your stuff down and he did, and as you hailed a cab he brought a hand up to rub your upper back comfortingly.
“You’ll do great.” Steve murmured. “I know what it’s like. To be in a world that you barely know. We’re the same, in more ways than one.” You smiled up at him, turning and giving him a hug as the cab rolled up. “See you soon, ______. Keep those gloves on.”
“See you, Steve.” You murmured back, putting your luggage into the cab and getting in, shutting the door and giving the driver the address. Back over the Queensboro you went, taking deep breaths and closing your eyes. You didn’t mind living on your own. Last year, when you ran, you had stolen money from Tony and lived on your own for a few months. You were caught, though. But you would rather not remember it. When you opened your eyes you were in Queens, in front of your new apartment building. The man in the cab was not kind enough to help you with your luggage, but you didn’t mind. You really didn’t have much, anyway.
You walked through the door and practically threw your luggage down, shutting it behind you and grabbing your key on the table. You searched around for a little while, exploring, but when you found the bedroom, you collapsed onto your new bed. You closed your eyes, taking deep breaths, ready to take it easy, until you felt your phone buzz in your hand.
