She put the car into park ans turned the keys in the ignition, before turning towards him. "Can you walk to the ER or should I run in and grab a wheelchair?" It was a slight tease but partly deadly serious.

"I'm Tristan." He chuckled at her words. "It was barely a tap, don't worry about it." He batted the air, feeling sheepish he was needing to be looked after after.

Their gaze met and he felt silly in feeling a little flutter in his chest. Quinn was a rather pretty woman, and perhaps if they met in another context he might have talked to her and asked to go for a coffee or something, but then again when had he ever done that? Instead, he supposed, he'd be grateful for the fact she almost ran him over and was driving him to the hospital. "No, god - you just said you worked for 24 hours! You need sleep, so please, just drop me off and go. I'll be in good hands, no doubt." He insisted, already grateful for the ride. "If it helps any, it's not a sharp pain but more a throbbing pain which I'm sure I can manage."

Unearthing my old Moira fics made me think about the AU where she and Nathaniel don’t become Wardens and help alongside as a branched off companion set.

Like, the night of the attack on her home, Nathaniel shows up unexpectedly in a “hi! I came home to visit and I wanted to see my GF first!” moment, so he gets caught up in it too. The two of them (and Quinn the Mabari) make it out alive together and decide to go to Ostagar, since a) that’s where Fergus went and b) that’s where the king is.

They get as far as Lothering when they meet up with The Warden and Company, who fill them in on what’s going on. Both Moira and Nate, being somewhat politically savvy for their ages, decide that they’re going to help. They volunteer to head to Redcliffe to speak with Eamon while the Warden goes to collect treaties in order to spread the workload out.

Cue events in Redcliffe village. After, the two volunteer to find the Urn of Sacred Ashes and the Warden’s all “it’s dangerous to go alone, take these” and offers two companions that have sort of been sitting on the sidelines.

Eventually, everything follows the in-game events, Moira and Nate take down Nate’s dad as they attempt to rescue Anora and get arrested because everyone thinks THEY’RE the Wardens, blah blah blah...things end as they do and instead of taking Amaranthine over, the Warden gets Gwaren, which is good because leaving the second largest Teyrnir without a leader seems like a not so good idea and the newly appointed Warden Mac Tir can STILL oversee operations of his people instead of leaving a power vacuum or leaving an inexperienced Warden-Commander at the helm. Being the hero during a time of crisis is one thing, but managing taxes and infrastructure during peacetime is something else, no matter how experienced your staff is.

Moira and Nate marry and become the power couple of Amaranthine, but “oh shit, we have a darkspawn situation here” brings the Warden around to help. Same thing: split the responsibilities between the Awakening party and the Arl and Arlessa, save both the city AND the Keep, blah blah blah, the end.

Several years down the line, their kid takes up his mom’s old mantle of the Dark Wolf and meets up with a cute Friend of Red Jenny who’s after the same target he is. Cue dramatics when a month or two later, the daughter of a well-respected Inquisition companion-turned-brewery owner shows up to discuss business with his parents and “oh. So YOU’RE the guy I had a post-heist one night stand with. Shit.”

Tristan is caught between “don’t tell anyone I’m Batman the Dark Wolf” and “I’m in love with Marian Trevelyan.” Meanwhile, Marian is trying to keep things all business and failing because “oh no, he’s cute and charming and I might be falling a LITTLE in love with this dork” and her brother Alex is losing his mind over the two in the background and shipping them as hard as he possibly can with “WAIT UNTIL I TELL MOM!”
