maybe it’s because he always has a sword in that smart ass mouth of his. maybe it’s because he can’t simply sit still—he needs to keep some part of his body moving. maybe it’s because he spent well over two decades of his life without physical affection.

whatever it is, when you’re alone with zoro, he’s bound to get his mouth on you one way or another.

“why’d you join me for night watch then, hm?” he taunts. the hand that isn’t restraining yours rests firmly on your belly.

“wanted to spend time with you.” your sweet admission makes his heart flutter, but he refuses to give you any latitude.

“and you are, baby,” he says smugly. his free hand dances down to the hem of your shirt, slipping underneath, rough fingertips grazing against your flesh to rest atop the waistband of your shorts.

the airy sigh you breathe lets him know that he has won, but his hand doesn’t move any further, his lone eye searching yours for approval. he tsks as you hold his gaze in defiance. he shifts to bring a large knee up to rest snugly between your soft thighs and chuckles when you stifle a moan.

“c’mon,” he entreats, resting his forehead hotly against yours. “let me have a treat since i’ve gotta stay up all night.”

“fine,” you whisper, too tired and riled up to hold him off any longer, no bite to your voice.

the word has barely left your lips before he pulls down your shorts and underwear and presses your knees to your chest. zoro brings his face down to your sticky cunt, hot breath and intense stare sending a shiver through your body. his eye flickers up to yours and doesn’t waver as he lets a glistening string of spit drip from between his chapped lips onto your swollen clit. he dips down to smear the spit with a chaste kiss.

scully and mulder's dynamic visibly changes after the onset of the season of secret sex

i've been thinking about how dd and ga deliberately played season 7 like mulder and scully were sleeping together, and i think there's solid evidence of that in the differences in how scully reacts to mulder appearing to show interest in another woman before and after the season of secret sex begins (i'm using millennium as the before/after divider bc i think that's what dd and ga decided, but this is based on my vague memory of a reddit comment about it which is how i first learned that the season of secret sex was a thing)

so overall there's an undercurrent of insecurity, borne of scully's uncertainty regarding precisely how mulder feels about her and what her place is in the hierarchy of things that are important to him in his life, that exists in the pre-millennium incidents and is glaringly absent post-millennium:

before millennium:

(i'm not gonna include phoebe/fire here bc i don't think scully's awareness of her feelings had yet risen to the point where she'd be truly jealous, i'd characterize her in that ep as largely protective of mulder and unwilling to let him deal with phoebe's games alone. it also helps that he's clearly not happy phoebe is back in his life again, unlike his much more positive reaction to diana)

war of the coprophages- the second scully finds out about bambi, she immediately hops in her car and drives up to miller's grove to join mulder, bc letting him investigate cockroaches alone was fine but god forbid he spend quality time investigating an x-file with an attractive female scientist who isn't herself- that's their thing!!

syzygy- to be fair the planetary alignment situation was exacerbating her- and mulder's- behavior here, but her jealousy of and hostility to detective white were still real, even if she would've been able to rein in her emotions better under normal circumstances.

diana fowley arc- i think this speaks for itself, lol

alpha- this is an interesting period in their relationship: after most of the diana shit is over, but before the tension between them is fully resolved (a process which to me begins with milagro/the unnatural and ends with amor fati, but that would be its own post lol).

other than introducing himself to karin as "fox" (maybe as a way to appeal to her preference for canids lol) and thus implicitly giving her permission to call him by his first name (which she proceeds to do throughout the episode), mulder doesn't seem to show much in the way of attraction to her.

even when he touches her hand to move the mouse, he's more interested in what's on the screen than in paying attention to her:

karin, however, is visibly affected by the contact, a fact which scully immediately notices:

later in the car, they have this convo, the last line of which is so heavily laden with diana subtext it's not even funny:

scully's reaction to karin is similar to her reaction to phoebe in that she's motivated mainly by wanting to protect mulder from his own naive, trusting nature, and from someone she believes is seeking to take advantage of it, rather than being motivated primarily by jealousy and defensiveness. she doesn't really believe that karin is a genuine threat to her relationship with mulder, but with diana still fresh in her memory she can't afford to not be vigilant. hence why she confronts karin alone later:

here scully demonstrates that she somewhat empathizes with karin (mulder is also someone who challenges her, makes her feel fulfilled and happy and alive). karin's response indicates that she has correctly deduced the basis of scully's dislike/distrust of her, and also acknowledges scully is the dominant one as it relates to the territory (mulder) that they are sparring over.

scully looks away at karin's "feminine wiles" comment, revealing the nagging insecurity about her place in mulder's life that diana's arrival exacerbated and that will continue to plague her until amor fati.

after millennium:

rush- when mulder looks back at chastity in the hallway, scully's reaction is to possessively grab mulder's sleeve and pull him away into the interrogation room:

and his response is to laugh and say "what?" like he doesn't know he belongs to her and only her.

keep in mind this happens just before they interrogate tony reed, and right after they finish interrogating him this shit happens:

she's pouting and giving him big doe eyes and playing with his tie!! at work!! in public!! she feels comfortable staking her territory in such an obvious way (also playful rather than hostile) bc she's not longer insecure about her place in his life!! i can never be normal about this i'm sorry ssdfgksdgsjdkfhkjsdf

first person shooter- when mulder checks out jade blue afterglow as she's leaving, he leans so far over in such an obvious, exaggerated way, almost as if he's deliberately trying to get a rise out of scully, but all she does is raise her eyebrows at him and lean over to block his view (while smirking):

and then he says he's "feeling the great need to blast the crap out of something", an almost direct quote of scully's line from their convo in the autopsy room right before they went down to the station:

and her response is to SMILE at him!!

pre-millennium scully would absolutely not have reacted this way in this situation. just like in rush, the insecurity that previously haunted scully whenever mulder seemed to be close to or interested in another woman is utterly absent here. they're joking and teasing and enjoying each other's company like they've always done, but there's a different dimension to it now. pre-millennium mulder would never have made a show of checking out another woman like that right in front of scully (unless a planetary alignment is affecting his behavior ofc lol), and pre-millennium scully would never have found it amusing.

(side note: people were debating on twitter a while back about whether this scene was ooc for mulder, and tbh i'm not sure what my own opinion is bc to me the whole episode has an air of... unreality? idk but it gives me similar vibes to post-modern prometheus, like maybe it's real or maybe it's just someone telling a story or it's somewhere in between, and it's also got that same unserious feel idk how else to describe it)

anyway, back to my main point, which is: dd and ga are damn good actors in the way they were able to subtly telegraph this shift in mulder and scully's dynamic. one might be able to argue that the insane flirting throughout season 7 isn't by itself evidence of the season of secret sex bc on some level they've always been like that, but to me these specific interactions provide important clues that the nature of their relationship has changed.

February 14th, 2024 Update!

Hey all, I'm gonna be trying to do this weekly now. So, quick update on things, first and foremost the book as that's what most of you come here for! I am 11k words in and about a little halfway done with the path that lets you participate in the next part with Lance and Alvarez. There is going to be quite a bit of variation in how a PC can choose to approach this scene; those Combat Stats exist for a reason!

As for things going on with Patreon, I have decided on a schedule!

I am going to attempt to stick to that schedule as consistently as possible, and I'm off to a good start on that! Part 1 of The Bureau Audiobook went up today and part 2 is going up on Thursday. Not to mention the small short story introducing the character Buck Marcellis went up last Thursday! The story is around 2.5k words long, if I remember correctly. An extra little thing going up today as well is the Poll to see what Interactive Fiction I will be reading as an audiobook next. That's right:

ahh okay if you still wanna talk about x files episodes how about wetwired? I feel like it's so underrated but it's one of my absolute favorites: the rob bowman lighting ~vibes~, the amazing acting from both gillian and david, the subtle but pivotal relationship building that (along w quagmire) leads us into the new dynamic of s4...I could talk about this episode for ages lol

always!!

wetwired is one that's just so heavy to me...it's all about worst fears. a killer in your yard. wolves at your feet. a woman with your husband. a lit cigarette in a dark night.

the killer isn't a shadowy figure or a monster from the forest or a man from the papers, it's your babysitter. it's your neighbor. it's you.

in wetwired, evil is transmittable, paranoia a communicable disease.

this show always understood that there is nothing special about mulder, that you don't know how you'll respond to grief or trauma or paranoia until it's you, and wetwired weaponizes this idea in it's monster-of-the-week's disintegration of scully.

suddenly, it is scully who is seeing cigarette smoke around corners. it's scully who is hearing clicks in phones and tearing her room apart looking for bugs. it's scully who trusts no one, who pulls her gun on her partner in fear.

these are all things that we've seen mulder do, but what is the line between caution and insanity? is it being right? is it seeking something that's actually there?

there's something so deeply scary and unsettling about scully, who is always steady in rationalism, who is always lucid and always wrong at the same time, chasing perceptions that aren't there.

while his partner is caught in quick buzzing fear, mulder is measured in reality and in discovering the science behind what's happening.

i love this moment here when he's called to identify a body, when he's about to go witness something real, and he pauses in the car. stops to kick the door after speaking to the plain-clothed man. closes his eyes in the hallway of the morgue.

mulder can be swift in leaps and moves, but he will drag to the truth if it's too tangible, if it's too much to bear.

in the climactic confrontation at maggie's house, paranoia gives way to wet, crippling fear. scully is halted in the overwhelm of the height of her panic, but still deeply affected by the grief in loss of trust.

mulder repeats her own words back to her verbatim ("i'm on your side, you know that" and "you are the only one i trust"), an attempt to communicate in a way she understands, in that language they have always had together.

much of what she's divulging has hung over them for years, as her worst fears are his worst insecurities. you are responsible for my abduction. you put this danger in my body. you killed my sister.

this is my favorite moment here, when trying to rationalize gives way to instinct, and maggie steps in front of mulder. she knows that her daughter feels safe with her, and would never hurt her. she isn't putting herself in danger so much as taking over, telling her daughter to lay it all down, standing protectively in front of her partner.

i love this relationship between the two of them. they're bonded in who they know, but there were three months not too long ago when it was just the two of them.

dana who was always the strong one, who apologizes for dying, collapsing in her mother's arms. the world being out to get you is one thing, having no one next to you is unendurable.

"i was so sure, mulder. i saw things and i heard things and...it was just like the world was turned upside-down. everybody was out to get me."

"now you know how i feel most of the time"

some half-truths in playful banter and hospital rooms, it's a bit of a role reversal as clear conversation about mulder's theory leads to discussion of "worst nightmares," and scully answers, "like me thinking that you'd betray me."

a casual confession that carries just as much weight as the weeping ruin of the previous scene, the slow build of the episode is revealed in the end. that underneath the hum of paranoia and the rush of mania, is the quiet devastation of dependence.

it makes me think of what she says in christmas carol:

"ever since i was a child, i've never allowed myself to get too close to people. i've avoided emotional attachment. perhaps i've been so afraid of death and dying that any connection just seemed like a bad thing, something that wouldn't last."

dr. scully the pathologist, death's best girl, who sees people long after they're gone. she often is resigned to her own impending death, and grieves the inherent loss in others connecting to her; something that won't last when you're bound to leave them.

but in wetwired, she is frantic about her own attachments, how few things would have to change or go wrong for her to be alone in this fight.

she has so little left here. her sister is gone. i think she knows, on some level, what that chip in her neck means. and her worst nightmare is that it would all be for nothing, that she would be in it alone. that mulder wouldn't be there with her.

This was originally almost pure comedy, but I added more to the beginning and it became hurt/comfort / angst-with-a-happy-ending instead ^^;;

Blue sat on a bench outside the infirmary, scowling down at his hands. Blood crusted under his fingernails, and he picked at it. He couldn't tell if it was his, a monster's, or—

(He had been the closest one, when that wizzrobe's spell hit Green square in the forehead and he toppled like a felled tree. Blue had been the one to catch him.)

Red sat next to him on the bench, tear tracks drying on his face. Blue... Blue should probably be comforting him, but he wasn't—  Goddesses, Green was the one who was good at this, but Green was—

(He'd been so limp in Blue's arms. Eyes open and moving but not... present. Staring at Blue like he didn't recognize him.)

Across the room, Shadow wouldn't stop fidgeting. Switching between sitting, pacing, hovering upside-down. He was the reason the healers had kicked the three of them out of the room, Blue thought bitterly. It wasn't like the infirmary didn't have the space, but the constant movement probably annoyed the healers, and Blue couldn't blame them. He wanted to snap for Vio to go calm Shadow down, but Vio was the only one who'd been allowed to stay in there with—

The door opened, and Blue was on his feet before he even registered Vio's voice saying "He's going to make a full recovery."

Vio stood in the doorway, Green at his side. Green was leaning heavily on Vio's shoulder for support, but he was upright. He stared blearily around the room with a crease between his brows, as if the waiting area were a puzzle he was trying to solve.

"It seems he was hit with some variety of confusion spell," Vio continued, "but Blue caught him before he could hit his head, and the spell should wear off on its own within—"

"Blue! Red! Shadow!" Green shouted suddenly, face brightening as if he'd only just noticed they were there. Vio winced at the loud noise right by his ear.

"—within about twenty four hours," Vio finished.

"Blue!" Green repeated. "Could you hold me? Please."

He pushed himself away from Vio without waiting for an answer, swayed for a moment, and once again began to fall. For the second time in as many hours, Blue caught him.

"You give good hugs," Green mumbled into Blue's shoulder as Blue, grumbling, got them both mostly upright again. "You don't like to admit it, but we know—" He poked Blue's chest as if for emphasis. "—we know you're really a big softie."

"Yeah, well." Blue could feel his face burning. "Don't go telling everyone."

"Your secret's safe with me," Green replied, or at least that's probably what the slurred "yr s'rs sfwm" was supposed to be.

A click sound went off.

Blue jerked his head around to glare at Shadow, who was holding a pictobox and grinning. A few sparks of dark magic still drifted in the air around him, indicating he'd just teleported.

"Yeah Blue," he said, as he handed the device to Red. "It's just between the five of us. And anyone who ever looks at Red's scrapbook."

Blue glared at him. But he also wrapped his arms a little more firmly around Green.

when you enter your apartment after a grueling day at work, the last thing you expect to see is your boyfriend in casual clothes—brown cashmere sweater, black trousers, the soft slippers you bought him for his birthday—with dinner on your kitchen table.

the sight stops you in your tracks, and before you can say anything, nanami kento walks up to you to grab your work bag and press a kiss to your cheek. “join me for dinner?”

after the delicious meal, he insists on cleaning up the kitchen himself, and shoos you away to take a shower.

once you shower and change into nightwear, you pad into the living room to see kento in the kitchen, lighting a candle, your favorite drink in a glass on the counter. you join him in the kitchen, and he turns to meet you in a warm embrace.

“what’s all this for?” you ask, speech muffled since your face is buried in his chest. he pulls away to inspect you, sharp eyes soft in the candlelight.

“do i need a reason to treat my girlfriend to a nice evening?” there’s a hint of humor laced in his tone, something only you—who know him inside and out—can hear.

his heart buzzes with warmth as your lips spread into a lighthearted grin, one he hasn’t seen in days and dearly missed. “well, if you insist,” you tease, grabbing your drink and pulling him toward the couch.

Ever since Kang Gaya Lockwood has been named Judge, she does change everything in a city that she considers now hers. The death of her father, the minister of Justice have paved the way for her to take his legacy. Vine words are never a coincidence, his mere presence here, isn't either. "Is it that you crave justice for the humans and view my politics as too authoritarian? Being called a dictator has never been an insult to me. I doubt you would care though, would you. " Her head is titled to the side as her steps lead her through the room, she is pacing. "Is it about Her." Her arms are crossed now. "I believe my sister holds some sort of fascination for you. Her and this insane desire she has to opens the gates between the living and .. what she seems to believe could be, the Gods, or Heavens and Hells." Dr. Kang Kaeleena Lockwood, known for her genius in the years - a genius Gaya has always considered madness. "I do know what you two have been doing. Disgusting little games with corpses and obscure rituals. What was it, was she luring you in to have sex down her autopsy tables?"The relationship between the sisters have went downhill on that Day, that one Day Kaeleena took it too far, that one day her expriment worked, that one day she created... it. Gaya had no chance but to lock Kaeleena up along with the creature she has created. The same way she is locking up all criminals in the city. To clean : that is her mission now.
