The problem with divergent:

The 2010’s���often referred to as the dystopian era. After the rise of the film adaptation of ��The Hunger Games’ by Suzanne Collins we saw a plethora of young adult (YA) dystopian novels being published and adapted into films, the 2 most popular of the time being ‘The Maze Runner’ series  by James Dashner and ‘Divergent’ by Veronica Roth. Both of these adaptations were successful in their box office opening week with ‘Divergent’ making over $280 000 000 globally. 

Compared to ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘The Maze Runner’ I would argue that the writing and world building of ‘Divergent’ is lazy. 

The ‘Divergent’ series by Veronica Roth was no doubt a cultural phenomenon, I mean it was the time… everyone AND their mothers were obsessed with dystopian novels! However, despite the success ‘Divergent’ had in box office both the book trilogy as well as the film adaptations had encountered many challenges due to the writing of the book itself (I guess you could say).

The first challenge and most likely the one that is discussed the most is world building. ‘Divergent’ being set in a future dystopian world makes world building increasingly complex and difficult…it cannot be decided as you go along, it sort of needs to be thought out, I mean  the world that these characters live in is the reason why they live the way they do. The problems that the characters of ‘Divergent’ are only partially explained and alluded to, the reader doesn't actually know the full reason of why the characters are forced to live the way they do and any assumption or partial explanation that we were given in the first ‘Divergent’ is almost thrown out the window throughout ‘Insurgent’ and ‘allegiant’. Any reason that Veronica Roth had given us becomes increasingly muddled as we continue to read the trilogy.

When I read the first installation of the ’Divergent’ it was gripping and fast paced however as i went on to read ‘Insurgent’ the plot felt drawn out like it was never going to end. The change in pace made it feel like I didn't enjoy myself…it felt like I was staring at the pages of the book for endless amounts of time moving nowhere. The third installation and film adaptation ‘Allegiant’ was the complete opposite of ‘Insurgent’, ‘Allegiant’ felt too rushed almost with many important plot developments not properly explored nor explained. The inconsistency of the pace of both the books and the movies diluted the emotional impact of pivotal moments in the novels and movie series.

Not only was the pace of the novels and film adaptations inconsistent, the character motivations were inconsistent as well, and any character development was non-existent too. Despite captivating the readers with her bravery and complexity, Tris is often portrayed in a less relatable manner in the novels. Some characters lacked depth which made it hard for the audience to connect emotionally with them or feel any empathy for them. Side characters in the first book who were initially interesting, as the books continue, turn into stereotypes with a predictable storyline and no meaningful development whatsoever. 

Most of the challenges discussed above were only in the film adaptations because they were created in the novels. However the film adaptation did have its own set of issues. Despite the first film achieving huge success, the rest of the films were not able to achieve success to the same level. Once again key subplots and pivotal movements in the book were left out in the movie which (in my opinion) took the movie's potential emotional weight away. People always say that the books are better than the movies and in ‘Detergent’s case this is especially true, the film failed to capture the challenges that connected the reader with the books. The selection of actors and choices made by the director also influenced the adaptation's mixed reception. Although some actors were praised for the performance in the film others were criticised for not ‘capturing the essence’ of the character they played. Because of the ‘inaccuracies’ which led to apparent viewing inaccuracies the distance between fans and the original content grew.

Around the time that the last divergent movie installation was released the YA dystopian genre was tired and drained. Boredom and disappointment continued to grow within the fandom due to the lack of originality and depth compared to the earlier works of the genre.

 With numerous films in that same genre being released the audience grows tired of seeing the same thing all the time. Franchise fatigue can be argued to be the ‘Divergent’ franchises biggest enemy…and their biggest mistake being to attempt to split the last movie into 2 parts (Harry Potter franchise is to blame but that's a whole different thing). Because of franchise fatigue the second part ‘Allegiant’ was never released nor picked up again by a production company. 

For me the biggest disappointment of this trilogy is the ending. It was unsatisfactory and left many plot holes unsolved. The dissatisfaction of the novel's ending extended to the film adaptation which can be proved by looking at ‘Allegiants’ performance in box office. The ending was met with disappointment…it felt like a waste, we sat through all that just for Tris to die at the end? How could the ending not be met with major disappointment! 

The "Divergent" series, while it showed early potential and gained a lot of popularity, is now dealing with major obstacles that have impacted how it has been received as both a book series and a film franchise. Concerns about world-building, character growth, adaptation inconsistencies, franchise fatigue, and unsatisfactory conclusions have all played a part in shaping its varied reputation. Although the series made a mark on the young adult genre, its flaws showcase the challenges of storytelling in literary and cinematic mediums. As viewers look for engaging stories, the themes of "Divergent" can remind us of the significance of clear, profound, and emotionally impactful storytelling. Despite my numerous complaints about the franchise with the franchise, the franchise still has great qualities where it almost redeems itself.

some haikyuu ships first date headcanons because im in a mood and want some fluff

daisuga: they absolutely took a train into the city to walk around some shops and get dinner and it was agreed upon as a date but they both agreed low expectations/really casual vibe. They sit together waiting for the train to arrive and neither of them are speaking or making eyecontact and theyre just so shy in a way that they have never felt before and they keep trying to hold open doors for each other and getting in the way and its super awkward and at one point suga spends like 20 minutes psyching himself up to take daichi's hand while theyre walking and they only just barely manage the lightest hand holding that barely even counts but when they get home they are both just absolutely overwhelmed with excitement over "how perfect" it was and then asahi has to hear about it twice

iwaoi: because they did so much together as friends first the transition into proper dating is really hard because they kinda just do what they normally do + kissing sometimes until like 8 months later at their first christmas together as an official couple and Iwa realizes that theyre going to be at a restaurant, on christmas eve, and it's going to be like a real thing, so he sort of panics but ends up borrowing his father's suit and bringing flowers and oikawa had had the same realization and brought chocolates and then they are sitting across from each other at a candlelit dinner and for the first time in their lives they are not best friends and it feels like theyre meeting for the first time, properly, and iwaizumi will never admit that he will never forget the colour of oikawa's eyes in candlelight. even if they go back to bickering and their normal not-very-romantic selves afterwards they never doubt their relationship ever again.

arankita: they go out for lunch on a sunday and aran is so unbelievably nervous because kita is, well, nearly a robot, so he has no clue what's going to make him happy, and sort of fumbles around trying to compliment him and suggest they do something more exciting, but kita insists that the little lunch date they had originally planned is perfect, although it gets derailed when kita has a family emergency he needs to leave early for, and although he's devastated aran walks him back to his bus stop and kita assures him he did nothing wrong and they'll try again shortly, and then gives aran a kiss on the cheek that he will be thinking about for weeks until he kisses him for real (on that promised second try). the twins bully him relentlessly for being "stood up" by kita.

ushiten: tendou is afraid that he, somehow unintentionally, "tricked" ushijima into going on a date with him, because he's cannot believe he'd actually reciprocate his feelings, and spends the whole day trying to be perfect and prove he's a good date, and they walk along a little shopping district, and get ice cream, and tendou cannot - like, painfully cannot - stop talking. nervous chatterbox to the extreme. they sit in a little cafe and watch the sunset and tendou will not stfu for even a second and even he's starting to wonder why he won't just shut his mouth because at this point its just embarassing but Ushijima is just leaning his head on his hand and watching him instead of the sunset and falling so deeply in love he will never be the same again.

tsukkiyama: okay but they definitely had a "first date" when they were like 13, and their moms had to drop them off at the movie theatre, and they saw some animated movie they didnt really like because it was the only one playing, and they sit in the dark and both think about trying to hold hands but neither of them commits to it because theyre so awkward and they leave and stand outside the movie theatre talking for like 40 minutes in the dusk and they do really like each other but theyre 13 so they just end up calling their moms and going home. 3 years later tsukki would tell him he loves him for the first time in that same spot but neither of them would realize that.

kagehina: technically they went on a few dates but they were all volleyball related, so they were calling them dates even if it was basically just more practice. Eventually, they decide to go out for kageyama's birthday, and they end up having such a nice time at dinner, and they take a really long walk afterwards and hold hands the whole time and they realize they dont get to hold hands on dates very often because theyre always playing volleyball, also, they dont really get to talk all that much either... anyway they end up sitting outside in a park until like midnight just catching up on months worth of date conversations theyd never had before, and walk-in-the-park date nights become a monthly, if not weekly staple.

Or invite you to a movie with them. Or suggesting to have you join their study group. Or sit with them at lunch. Or if they should bring you a bun when they went by a bakery on their way to school.

Everyone knew about his crush, even the trainer. Except, of course, you.

To you, Oomimi was a thoughtful, albeit quiet player who was an important component to Inarizaki‘s defense along with Suna. To you, he was simply being polite and tried to include you as often as possible. And, to be honest, he was the reason why you joined the team as the manager.

Whenever you called for the team’s attention for the coach, Oomimi was the first to come running but always stopped himself a few meters before reaching you, slowing his steps and suddenly becoming very interested in retying his shoes or straightening his jersey as to not make it seem like he was too eager to get to you. He knew he had an intimidating aura and the last thing he wanted was to scare you by towering over you.

And today was no exception.

Once Kita arrived the team gathered in a half circle around you and the trainer - Oomimi stole glances at you throughout the coach’s game plan. When it was time for the warm up drills, he paused in his movements when he saw that instead of dispersing like the rest of the team, the chaotic trio stayed behind to talk to you while Coach Kurosu went outside to take a phone call.

“How about it, y/n-chan?”, he heard Atsumu say loudly, “This friday night. We can go to the arcade or see a movie.“ The setter shuddered, feeling a sudden icy chill on the back of his neck but soldiered on, “Why aren’t ya sayin’ anythin’? Don’t wanna go on a date with me?”

He was sure when he turned around he would come face to face with Kita but instead he stared at the chest of the middle blocker, slowly raising terrified eyes to look at him.

“H-hey, Oomimi-san.”, he stuttered, “I was just askin’ our manager to go out with me.”

“I know, the whole gym could hear ya.”, Oomimi replied calmly.

“O-okay then. Uhm… would ya give us a bit of space so she can answer me?”

Oomimi looked at you - your face telling a detailed story of confusion and reluctance.

“No.”, he said, glaring down at Atsumu.

“And why is that?”, Atsumu asked, hoping his knees wouldn’t give out. He hated Osamu and Suna for this. Sure, the sacrifice for their cause was chosen via rock, paper, scissors but now that The Wrath of Oomimi Ren™ was upon him, he really badly wanted to reconsider, even if that would give his friends the right to his lunch desserts for the next month.

“Well…” Oomimi hadn’t thought that far. “Because…-“

“Because I’d actually much rather go out with Oomimi-san.”, you said, cheeks as red as tomatoes, “Sorry, Tsumu. You’re �� okay and all but I’m not interested.”

Osamu and Suna doubled over with laughter - the latter still holding up his phone to capture the moment for all eternity.

Atsumu would have been extremely offended if he wasn’t so relieved that the giant third year was too distracted by your confession to hurt him and grabbing his brother and friend by the sleeves dragged them off to leave you and Oomimi to blush at each other in private.

you admire izana while he is sleeping soundly. it’s been a long time since he got proper sleep. you on the other hand were still wide awake. you don’t mind, it was nice to watch izana finally getting some rest. since you usually fall asleep before him, you never knew how izana slept like. until tonight, you found out izana was a sleep talker.

“mahal ko…pakiusap huwag mo akong iwan.” izana softly spoke while sleeping.

“izana?” you say quietly.

“Sa totoo lang hindi ko alam kung ano ang gagawin ko kung wala ka. pakiusap, wag mo akong iwan at manatili sa tabi ko habang buhay. Pangako mamahalin kita magpakailanman.” izana continues.

realizing that izana was a sleep talker, you wonder what he was saying. you didn’t understand tagalong at all. even if you woke izana up, he wouldn’t even remember what he was saying. so, you didn’t dare to wake him up.

you managed to wake up before izana did. he had slept in. he walks into the living room and finds you sitting on the couch watching television. you notice him and paused your show.

“how’d you sleep last night?” you ask izana. izana rubs his eyes, still trying to fully wake himself up. “i slept good…actually.” he remarks. you hum in responses.

“that’s good to hear.” you comment. izana feels as though you want to say something more, but he feels as though you’re holding back from saying anything.

“how’d you sleep? did i keep you up all night?” he questioned. you look away from him for a moment to collect your thoughts. “i didn’t get much sleep. you were sleep talking all night long and i was curious about what you were dreaming about.” you pause for a long moment.

“did you know that you dream in tagalong?”

izana looks at you with a surprised look. “no, i didn’t know that.”

“i didn’t either, i guess because i never stayed up long enough for me to know.”

there was a brief moment of silence. izana was a bit confused because you seemed to be upset about it. he just didn’t understand what you would be upset about. he didn’t know what to say, considering that he didn’t even know what he said last night.

“are you- upset? i don’t know why you’re upset and i’m just…confused.” he confesses.

“i’m not upset at you, i’m upset with myself.” you tell him.

“but, why?” izana gives you a sympathetic and confused expression on his face.

“i just feel like when you speak tagalong, i feel like you have more emotion. i could learn the langauge and know what you are saying, but i think i will never truly understand how you are feeling. you speak from the heart when you speak tagalong. something you never do when you speak english.” you explain.

“i guess that i feel like i won’t be able to understand that side of you. it feels like there’s a whole part of you that i don’t even know of. i know it’s stupid and confusing, but i just think you speak whole heartily when you speak your language. it makes me wonder what you dream about. i wonder if you slept talked in tagalong before.” you continue.

the soundtrack of The Grid: daft punk's contribution to TRON:LEGACY

What would a movie be without music? There are many soundtracks that are considered iconic, one of the many being TRON:LEGACY soundtrack. Despite the complaints that TRON:LEGACY had been one long Daft Punk soundtrack it cannot be denied that the soundtrack composed by Daft Punk did not benefit the movie and elevate the movie experience. Daft punk’s contribution to the soundtrack of TRON:LEGACY was massive…or maybe it was just that big of a contribution to me. 

Daft Punk’s combination of their signature electronic sound with orchestral arrangements created a soundtrack that was both otherworldly and emotionally resonant. In order to achieve this success the duo collaborated with composer Joseph Trapenese together they created a score that enhanced the digital and human themes of the film.

The electronic sounds contributed by Daft Punk evoke the mechanical, futuristic and digital feeling of The Grid, which fully immerses the audience into the world of TRON:LEGACY, for example, ‘Derezzed’ captures the electronic energy and action of the Light Cycle battles. The orchestral sections, contributed by Joseph Trapanese, in ‘ Son Of Flynn’ and ‘Overture’ emphasises the emotional weight of events that take place in the movie. The fusion of strings and bass with electronic beats mirrors the tension between the Digital and humanity, which is one of the core themes of the film. The combination of these two styles enhances many emotional moments of the film, ‘Adagio for TRON’ uses somber strings layered over subtle electronic undertones to highlight the loneliness and sacrifice of Kevin Flynn.

chapter 01: guess who’s back

“y/n, hurry up and get the last box so we can get out of here!” her dad shouted from downstairs.

“coming!” she called back, taking a last look at her room before carrying the box downstairs and into the u-haul. she’s finally moving back to hyōgo after 3 years, excited to soon be reunited with her childhood friends atsumu and osamu. although she didnt grow up with suna, she talked to him plenty online. atsumu insisted y/n to talk to all his friends on the volleyball team as a way to stay connected while she were away which is why she’s so well-acquainted with suna.

she won't lie though, she’ll miss the friends that she made at nekoma… she’ll miss her study sessions and weekly gaming nights with kenma and kuro. they were sure a fun pair to be around, making those three years feel like three months.

y/n slid into the seat of the truck as her dad turned on the engine.

“arent ya excited to go back to hyōgo after three years? you made sure to tell your friends that you're returnin’... right?” he asked, buckling his seat belt before pulling out the driveway.

y/n fiddled with the hem of her shirt nervously, “well– i haven't told them anything yet…” she confessed, “I kept waiting for the right moment, but it never came…” she sighed, leaning back while gazing out the window, admiring the scenery pass by for the last time.

“that’s alright kiddo. you can always surprise them, y'know” he smiles, ruffling his daughters h/c hair. “don't stress; it'll all work out.” he reassured.

after a long drive, they finally arrived at their new home. “that was sure a long car ride… my muscles are stiff~” her dad grumbled as he stretched. y/n tiredly rubbed her eyes. just as she was getting ready to fall asleep, they just had to arrive.

“cmon y/n, these boxes aint gonna move themselves,” he said.

‘okayy” she yawns, i just wanna sleep… thirty minutes later and they were finally done moving all the boxes in their new house.

“okay, we're all done. i’m heading to bed. my back’s sore from all that lifting. you're free to explore the neighborhood, just don't stay out too late.”

y/n nodded and climbed up the wooden stairs to her room. “there's boxes everywhereee~” she whines. “i guess i should at least be productive and unbox some stuff to kill time.”

after a bit of unpacking, y/n decided to take a break. “i guess it wouldn’t kill to roam around the block; i could use a convenience store run,’’ she thought. she grabbed her house keys and slipped on a hoodie to shield her from the cold.

familiar with the area from her previous time here, finding the nearest convenience store was quite easy. she lazily walked in, scanning the aisles, she decided to make her way to the candy isle. while she was engrossed in the candy section, the door chimed indicating that another customer had entered the store.

“i still can't believe yer dumbass accidentally spiked kita yesterday” the cinereous haired boy laughed.

“right? japans best setter and server? i think not…” another voice chimed in.

“can you guys both stop HATING right now? It was a ACCIDENT!” the accused huffed.

“you never told us you were coming back?” osamu questioned, his mouth curling into a small smile as he ruffled y/n’s hair.

“heyyy, you're gonna mess up my hair asshole!’’ she grumbled, swatting osamu’s hand away.

“so youre the famous y/n huh” suna asked, eyeing her up and down with a dramatic, exaggerated scrutiny, like he was assessing a celebrity.

“yup, that’s me!! not sure how i'm famous though,’’ she laughs

“oh you're famous alright. atsumu won't shut up about you. every day it’s, ‘i miss y/n’, ‘when will y/n come back’, ‘did y/n forget about us?’ so annoying.” suna teased.

“shaddup suna stop exposing me!” atsumu shouted, his ears turning red.

“so, are you here for vacation or somethin’ ?” the grey-haired twined asked, tossing a few bags of candy into the shopping cart.

“oh, we actually moved here, my dad got a new job here in town. i’m sorry i didn't tell you guys… i just didn't know how to bring it up, and i was scared that you guys wouldn't want to see me after so long…” she admitted, nervously fiddling with the hem of her sweater.

the blond smiled warmly, “that's alright y/n. we're just glad that yer back. it's been sooooo long!”

“anyway, we were just stopping by to get snacks cause we're having a movie night. you wanna join us?” suna asked.

I haven't really thought that much about these two in particular. Even if I love all the captains in every rotation. But.... welll.............

I think the funniest immediate dynamic that comes to head is that we've got Mr. Down Home "It Ain't Much but It's Honest" versus "Captialist Rex" which honestly I am not an enemies to lovers kinda person but if you wanted to make a hallmark movie-

Dear Kita has to come into the city and he's only there to help a family member sell at a local artisan market, and they've got a little shop set up, and Kuroo is basically classic entrepenurial spirit like "wow you could really make a business out of this little set up" and Kita says "get my name out of your mouth right now" and-

Actually hang on I'm kinda into this conceptually. Because Kita's, like, mean. Canonically. He's not like most of the other captains that like, mince words or try and keep people's morals up, up he straight up tells people to stop making mistakes and to be better, like... I don't know if Kuroo has a lot of people like that in his life that would hold a knife to his throat and tell him to be a better human being or the Gods will send him to hell.

I do think Kuroo could easily absolutely fall in love with this downhome kind of simple logic Kita has, very yes sir, thank you ma'am, let's get our work done, but in the way that what Kuroo might be missing in his very corporate life is a little bit of home comfort, somewhere to come back and rest his head and feel fulfilled. And I can imagine the first few nights he stays over on the farm rest him like nothing has ever rested him, and once Kita actually lets him talk about *why* he's climbing to the top of the volleyball managerial ladder (to lower the net for everybody!) Kita almost instantly falls in love. To put that much work into an ideal, to commit to something he cares about that hard and put that many hours a day in, that's something Kita can support, whatever it is.

Anyway Kita would absolutely make him little homemade bento boxes with cute little notes to take to work and then sometimes when Kuroo's messed up he'll leave very aggressive little notes.

Kita tries to pretend he doesn't think Kuroo is attractive at all, but (before they're together) he catches him sleeping on the bed with his shirt off and almost has an aneurism

Kuroo is pretty sure every time Kita smiles a year gets added to his life.

Atsumu finds out Kuroo (yes, that Kuroo!) is dating his former captain and Osamu has to stop him from sending a strongly worded letter to the editor regarding why Kita should absolutely break up with him right now do not trust the black cat do NOT

Anyway also I forgot to include somewhere in the original hallmark enemies-to-lovers triad that they have to hardcore hate fuck atleast once. I think they could do it. Better than other rarepairs i've thought about I think they could.
