Am thinking, My Yokai can brand/mark their S/Os with a part of themselves. Energy / Corruption / Boost of their natural elements, eg; Akku can leave a brand of his suction cups along the limbs of his S/O that can be used as a barrier and/or beacon to call him / pinpoint him.

It could also be triggered to aid his S/O to breath underwater if they are ever in danger of drowning.

It could also ward away danger, give his S/O ( if not supernatural already ) an enhanced sixth sense to others intentions towards them.

These brands might not be visible to the human eye unless trained to look into the Yokai nature. A tingle to those that are welcoming to the supernatural at best without the true blood / vision of the other side.

Thoughts on the headcannons that doffy is colorblind and that’s part of why his fashion sense is Like That and that corazon is so unbalanced bcos he suffered a traumatic brain injury in the same event where doffy got an arrow in his eye and cora was only normal kid levels of klutzy before that and got much worse after

Firstly I'm so sorry if it took me ages to reply, I didn't get notified of this in my inbox at all!🥹

Also, I do like both of those theories– in my opinion there is definitely something about his eyes that Doffy is deliberately hiding, whether a natural 'flaw' or an injury.

On Doffy's eyes;

I think the arrow to the eye was quite clear, it's hard to imagine he could get away from something like that completely unscathed. The only question though if this is the case is why he was wearing glasses before any of that happened. My guess is either:

- he had some kind of eye defect from birth, something that he possibly saw as this huge flaw for a high and mighty Celestial Dragon. Perhaps colour blindness from birth, or heterochromia, or partial blindness etc.

- this is self-indulgent and unnecessarily cute (sue me!) but I also like to think that maybe he was just attached to the glasses themselves as an item, the way small kids get overly attached to things and just don't let them go for a long phase I.e a favourite piece of clothing they insist on wearing everywhere or an impractical accessory.

In either case, I can see that after his injury he started wearing glasses all the time for a totally different reason; to hide an injury that was now a bigger flaw than anything else because it was definite proof of weakness. Whatever he's hiding behind those glasses I refuse to believe he's not touchy and secretive about it. I think the HC that Doflamingo actually has perfectly normal eyes under there and is just an Extra Bitch is hilarious!! BUT considering that he got to keep them even at Impel Down, and I believe the wiki says that Tsuru got him a new pair before he was tossed in jail, they must be pretty important to him/ the Marines who arrested him for that little while his eyes were bare probably saw something that they knew Doflamingo would get Touchy and Dangerous about so they wanted to cover it right back up and pretend they hadn't seen anything.

BUT I'M GOING ON A TANGENT! To answer your actual question, I've never considered that his sense of fashion is so atrocious because he could be colourblind. Like, I just thought it was atrocious because his personality involves being the centre of attention all the time– sitting on the fcking table at warlord meetings, crowning himself King of Dressrosa and throwing massive celebrations in his honour, his behaviour at Marineford– but now that you mention it I like that possibility! I would have to look up how people with colourblindness perceive colours, I think, to get deeper into it; for example, if he doesn't perceive his horrid feather coat as being pink the way other people see it, what colour does it look like to him, what aesthetic exactly is he going for? Doflamingo would 100% not care if other people's visual senses were assaulted in his quest to look good to himself so that's fascinating.

On Cora's clumsiness;

I totally REFUSE to believe he was exaggerating this or playing it up for the sake of his cover. His accidents are too inconveniently timed for that to be the case, like when it got him in trouble when he was stealing the Op Op Fruit...(ouch😭)

He says he's always been clumsy since birth but his klutzness is simply next level, so it really makes sense that it's the result of some traumatic injury. If it was simply a childhood trait I think it would get better with time, not significantly worse; AND, I know we didn't see much of him as a child, but there wasn't any time child Rosi was depicted as being that clumsy. I believe the only time he ever showed clumsiness was when he tripped and fell into a treasure chest one time(?) in one of the very first scenes of their family before they moved out of Marie Jois, but that's like. On a totally believable level for a child. His clumsiness is such an integral element of his character as an adult that I think they would've highlighted it in his younger self.

So! Yes, I agree with that headcanon ;-; poor Rosi...

My identity hc for them

oh shit tumblr is auto formatting in bullet points thats fun. uhhh w/rei i pretty much like any combination of ace/aro spec + lesbian. 100% lesbian rei? aro lesbian rei? aroace rei? all epic all amazing. i started hc'ing this back in like.. vv early sdra days. and i think its just part of who i am now... i think she doesnt really experience much attraction in general and has a bit of a hard time labeling how she feels because. of her general emotional trauma. so tbh i can see her kinda rotating through labels? i think she keeps it very to her self tho. she doesn't like people assuming she's cishet but she also doesn't want to come out as straightn't, so she just snaps at people who try and drag her into convos about identity.

similarly i think she struggles with really.. going "wow this is so me this is exactly what i am" when it comes to gender identity. i think she's very.. "well im Definitely not a guy, and i dont think im anything else, so..." ie, she's more prone to defining herself by what she isn't than what she is. which is perfectly okay!!! i don't think she'd consider herself trans, but she may occasionally like the label genderqueer. (yes i know that trans people r anyone who's gender deviates from what they were told they should be, but while it is an umbrella term, people can decide if they like it for themselves a lot! and i don't think rei would really like any label other than "idk man its weird", which she likes to use on/off) again tho i dont think she's very into sharing that with people, at least as a teen.

Thoughts on their home life/family

im so curious what her time was like when she was all alone??? i think that's something thats fairly unexplored, is her time between her parents not being able to care for her, and her becoming self-sufficient. ultimately i dont have much to say here, i like how linuj handled her backstory, i just think it wouldve been cool to see more of it, not that there was any good place to write it in, but i love bonus modes and would like to see maybe how the dra survivors coped w/what they learned in the sixth trial in a bonus mode about how the kisa foundation became what it is now.

How i feel about their canonical writing/handling

mmm... tbh. i like rei, i think her growth from dra to sdra2 was handled well- she still feels like rei, while also serving her narrative role- ie. there's not much you can do when shawty gets exploded in the prologue and then has to play second fiddle to tsurugis viola of fucking evil. sadly, we can't do much with the kisa foundation and showing how rei and tsurugi have changed and have the pacing of the chapter still be intact, when we see rei, its mostly just her being voice of reason because someone has to give exposition on what the foundation knows while tsurugi has a meltdown. i think her development feels authentic and natural, if she maybe feels a biiit.. i dont know how to word it, but she almost feels a bit too calm? less snarky at points than i'd think she'd be, and than what i'd like to see. but again, we can explain that as being due to the role she has to play for the story.

ultimately, while not necessarily my cup of tea, i'm just not prone to latching onto characters like rei a whole lot! i def think she's handled well, oddly well for linuj in general, and v oddly well for a female character written by linuj. i like her, im just not brain rotted about her

The one thing i’d want to make canon about them

hmmmmm... im not gonna lie i can't really think of anything? after thinking about it while i typed up. essentially the whole rest of this post, i think it'd be cool if she and kabuya were friends after sdra2. yuuki is... .... ..........lets not talk about what hes up to, syobai and iroha are just a whole fucking mess. theyre a bit busy dealing with heads in boxes. and tsurugi is just sooo normal he's too normal really.

so i think they could meet and chat about how Fucking Insane the games were, in a way that other kg survivors wouldnt get, since they didnt have to deal with divine luck and what it does to people. also seeing as akane saved rei in dra and then. ya know. Soruko. i think that'd be a interesting convo for them to have, both kinda understanding more about akane taira. i think that'd be really neat!

My number one favorite ship for them

hm.... reikako by default of i dont think much about rei ships, and they have a significant amount of canon material. i do wonder though what their relationship was like pre-despair, it feels like a lot of the school life info we have is on utsuro or tsurugi? buuut yeah. also as kinda established i think rei is uncertain where she stands on attraction/her thoughts change a lot and. yeah. so this is less a romantic thing and moreso i want inside linujs brain so i can know what he thinks except he like. officially has stated he doesnt know shit abt sdra anymore which is SO UPSETTING

…Now everyone else i ship with them

i think rei/kizuna/kiyoka could be cute!!! also i kinda just like giving akane gfs, and i don't really think they'd be that compatible, but i think if they had a weird little queercoded friendship for like. the duration of one year during their stay at hpa, and it leaves akane feeling more confident and comfortable with herself as her own person, and leaves rei with a LOT of questions, while they also never really cross the line between friends and something more, that'd be cool and fun. just normal gals being pals things.

The thing i will NEVER ship

im so sorry. 2020 sdrainsta has made me incapable of terurei propaganda. i support people who ship it as a matter of fact im so glad we r now in a place where people can ship it or not ship it and everyone can just be fine and happy. but i dont think ill ever be able to see the vision.

a dynamic/relationship i wish was explored more (in canon, or in fandom)

i wish in sdra2 we saw more on the dynamic that grew between rei and mikako in dra. i think it'd be cool to see that discussed a bit more seeing how it was. mikakos in game memories that formed the basis for sora iirc.

thoughts on their design (appearance-wise)

mmm...... why the fuck did linuj use so much blue in the dra cast color palettes... i remember i had this dentist appointment that was really evil and like. literal hours longer than it was supposed to be, and to try and distract myself i went through the cast and counted who had blue in their design and who didnt. it took a long time because i was in so so so much pain but like. iirc its just mikako akane and yuki. and also mikako wears blue in ch4. so. THATS NOT RELEVANT THOUGH.

uhhhh. im not a huge fan of her outfit just because i dont like the skirt. her og design was a school uniform and i think it kinda shows and im not a huge fan of it? my brain keeps getting mixed up on the length of her skirt but yeah. its just so vibrant and pigmented and so is her hair and its like. the lower half of her fit just feels so high school uniform and i dont really like it. i think her hair is super cute in the bonus sketch (the just-woke-up one) on her character sheet tho.

i also don't really like her fit in sdra2. i think the labcoat is super nice (i like the ombre effect it looks good) and while its not too practical i dont hate the vest short skirt tights combo. but im not a fan of the color palette, its just so dark, so u have her bright hair and the bright coat, but the dark grey and black, in vertical stripes just kinda dominates it in my brain. and i don't really like it? i really dont like the grey with her hair.

she is very pretty. but im not a fan of the fits linuj puts her into

A music-related thought- a song that reminds me of them, or what their music taste is, etc

hmmm.. this is a very foreign concept to me but i dont think reis huge on music. i think for the most part she listens to songs she has memories associated with- she doesn't seem huge on the arts or. ya know. emotional connection? so i think while she wouldn't really vibe with anything particular of her own accord, listening to music which was playing when something emotional happened to her both improves the music, and also. helps her with being in touch with her emotions and letting herself feel. if that makes sense?

It's not much of a secret that Atahni hasn't much in the way of goals. Given that he coasted through most of his early life, his goal has only ever been to survive, to stay alive, to keep breathing—a task often made harder by his upbringing. His adoptive mother abandoned him as readily as his own parents had, though he cannot recall their names nor their faces nor even if they were A tribe, as his name should imply.

Perhaps that's one of the many reasons things... shifted when he adopted his daughter. When Tsuru came into his life, his goals stopped being about survival. He started to wonder how can he keep this little girl happy? Safe? Healthy?

For her, he had given up traveling. Though his life as a pirate had always been rough, he knew it wasn't the life any child ought to grow up in. Tsuru, especially, who he quickly became extremely fond of. Much as Atahni loved the sea, loved seeing new places, it was hard to continue when Tsuru needed safety and stability more than the unpredictability of the ocean.

Unfortunately, A'atahni hasn't quite given up on all the bad habits he was engaged in as a pirate. Sleeping around had always been a poor habit of his, but that of stealing from the men he sleeps with only worsened after he left behind piracy. The few who know him well enough to have heard about his, ah, conquests worry it will get him into trouble one day—but he's a pirate. Old habits die hard.

He’s happy to be by your side platonically or romantically, it is when he realizes that his heart beats faster around you, that you continue to surprise him over and over again, and bring a light into his life - that this old man realizes that he loves you.

And he just accepts it? What else is there? Okay sure confessions are a thing but like, why cross that line and break it? Mikazuki is just happy to be with you. But his behavior around you when he’s in love doesn’t change all that much. He’ll bit a bit more teasing, a bit more touchy than normal. He’ll always find his hand in yours, maybe kissing your fingers?

Mikazuki can get nervous but hides it oh so well.If you tease him, he’ll tease you right back. His confession comes out of nowhere, while you two are drinking tea together, watching the moon wax and wane - a nightly tradition - where you two talk before you hit the hay. “The moon’s beauty could never compare to yours, master, I speak nothing but the truth.” and then you stare at him in disbelief, “But as the moon finds the tides, I will always come back to you, my beloved and darling master.” so then you pass the fuck out because he’s smooth.

But really, dating this bastard is just likely dancing over the line between friendship and a relationship. Everyone kind of assumed you two are married anyway so when they find out that you two are officially dating they’re either like: “Wait weren’t you two already dating?” or “I FUCKING KNEW IT” or “Wow you two like each other????” and so on and so forth. Everyone is oh so supportive though~!

Mikazuki adores physical affection, he isn’t afraid to suddenly wrap his arms around you in public. Or just happy to hold your hand if you’re hesitant to affection. He adores skinship~!

Most of all, Mikazuki adoressss napping with you! He is old and sometimes naps are the best thing. He can sense whenever you’re stressed as hell and thus knows how to take you away from your work. He’ll sweep you off of your feet, carry you back to your room and cuddle the SHIT outta you. Big spoon? Little spoon?? He don’t give a fUCKING DAMN. Let him hug you, just hold you close, he loves it.

This extends to bath times as well. Mikazuki loves it when you two bathe together. Bare skin on skin - you can cover your private part he won’t look! He may find you adorable during this time but if anything he just wants to help you relax! He’ll pat you down and rub oils into your skin and so on! Massages are also something he loves as well.

If anything, Mikazuki just loves existing in the same space as you in some kinda domestic bliss. You two don’t have to be doing anything, you could just be napping on one side of the room and Mikazuki could be watching television but man it’s little moments like these that he adores.

It’s even better when you two are just having a day to yourselves! Your nightly chats and tea sessions do not stop after you two start dating. If anything you two just have them much more often! It’s moved from his room to your shared room though, That way you two don’t have to scare a tantou or anyone else with your flirting or something.

He’s a cheesy bastard. He knows dumb pick up lines and flirts from the internet or from the other swords. He’s almost worse than Izuminokami????????

Yeah his teasing does not stop even after you two begin dating. If you are shorter than him he’s going to hide all of your snacks and shit on the top shelves. If you happen to be the same height or possibly taller than him, he’ll ask, “How’s the weather up there love?” or “Bend down to kiss me, my old bonds cannot pull you down after all.” fucking bastard.

Despite being a little shit, Mikazuki gives out amazing advice. If you are ever feeling down, he’ll open his arms and wait for you to hug him. He’ll rub your back and kiss your forehead, ask you what’s wrong and always be with you.

Mikazuki is a very truthful lover. If there’s something wrong with your relationship or in general, he’ll come to you right away to tell you what’s what. He doesn’t hide things from you (unless it’s like a surprise gift or some shit)

Mikazuki is also a rather spontaneous lover! He brings you random little trinkets he bought/found like flowers or something and so on and so forth! Mikazuki loves seeing your eyes light up. You gotta stay on your toes around him! He isn’t as bad as Tsuru or anything but his gifts are a lot more wholesome.

The moon does not emit light, only borrowing the light from others. If he is the moon then you are his sun, bright and shining, the love of his life - he cannot live without you.

Fun little birthday themed hc for...Kin'emon! Who has to deal with a wife (9/15) and...special buddy (9/09) with birthdays six days apart. Naturally the master strategist lucked into figured out the perfect solution to his dilemma one year. What do you get for the perfect woman, and how do you do something nice for Miss Self-sacrificial without making a fuss?

Every year on the 9th, Kin'emon executes his foolproof plan. He barges into Kiku's room, let's her have screaming and throwing a pillow, then acts like he forgot to get Tsuru anything so he needs Kiku's help. She without fail will make him admit he needs her feminine touch in the matter. Usually asks for a special Fuku Fuku fashion for the occasion, then off they go!

Kin takes her by some Chrysanthemum in bloom. He waxes poetically about how they're growing into fine young...flowers. How happy they make him, how proud he is of them for...blooming. They both lie about pollen getting to them and making their eyes water. Then off they go shopping.

After finding something for Tsuru, who starts hinting what she wants to Kiku by no later than the 3rd of the month, Kin acts all coy like he should treat the girl to dinner. Where he "suddenly" remembers the occasion and surprises the girl with some trinket that caught her eye earlier. Something cute, the type of thing he'd normally roll his eyes at.

Then they come home where the other Akazaya tried to make a cake. Because who else is making one for the rest of em? In later years Toki abjectly refused to help with this part of things. Its always too damn funny.

Tenma x Tsurugi lovey-dovey hcs (art by Ruchy)

- Tenma looooves to hug Tsurugi from behind when he is doing something. For instance, washing his hands, brushing his teeth and etc. - Tsurugi is not into pda that much, but he wants Tenma to feel special and opened up more as their relationship progressed

- Tsuru is a god in writing essays, while Tenma sucks, thus, Tsuru helps him with essays

-Tenma on the other hand is a pro in presentations and likewise, he helps Tsuru with them

- Almost always, during visits at their homes, they end up falling asleep because they prefer to cuddle rather than watch a movie or talk

- Tsurugi sometimes has his moments where he doesn't want to talk and prefers to be alone, and Tenma respects this. During this period, they don't chat, due to Tsuru sleeping all day, but our sunshine Tenma sends him wholesome memes to make sure he wakes up in a good mood

the contrasts between shokudaikiri and tsurumaru // literally no one asked

i have galaxy brain. i really like these two so here have wordvomit. copy and pasted from the wikicord and formatted to look nicer. my google chrome keep freezing and crashing so... i’m stuck using firefox insteas. it’s probably for the better, tbh.

thoughts under the cut.

a user in the touken ranbu wiki discord mentioned smth a few days ago about how hasebe tries so much to be a sword, he ends up being human, and how by contrast, mitsu tries so hard to be human, he ends up being more like a sword. and i was talking with a friend about tsuru, and they brought up, "on this sliding scale, where does tsuru fall"?

and i was thinking about this, and why tsuru is the way he is; he's lived an incredibly long life and... while he doesn't exactly show it, he's an old spirit. he's a tired one. i like to hc that he years for rest, because he's had such a long life of surprises, being passed through multiple hands along the way. he was supposed to rest, but he was disturbed from it, and he was forced to wake again.

he was going to rest in a grave, but he was stolen from it.

he was going to rest in a shrine, but he was stolen that, too.

i've kind of discussed it in style (my fic) of mine about how, when mitsu comes back, he's 100% unfased by tsuru being all mischievous and trying to scare him. he tells tsuru that it's his "style"- to give others surprises...

but tsuru isn't sure if that is his so-called style. is that his "nature"?

he's goofy... until he's not. he acts chaotically... until he gets serious. he's (relatively) calm and aloof... until he steps on the battlefield. it's why i like his kiwame letters so much: he realises he can't change his nature, but he'll still step forward into the light and stay. it's acceptance of who he is, and how his existence has been shaped.

he's relaxed, because he can afford to be relaxed, in a sense. he causes chaos, because he's tired of rest, but is that a mask, or is that the wearer? and this relaxed nature makes it all the more jarring when he does get serious.

to circle back to the first thought: i wonder, if tsuru is a balance to that? he doesn't reject his being a sword, but he doesn't exactly pretend to be a human. it's part of why he questions his "nature". he's aware he's not exactly human, but he's not exactly a "sword", not in the current form he has. though, i don't think he would have even considered it before his kiwame journey, i suppose.

to dig into the contrasts between mitsu and tsuru that i brought up in style...

mitsu holds a discussion of "style", of a "mask". of what you present to others and how they perceive you. he perceives tsuru's "style" as one of surprises, of tricks.

this fits in very well with tsuru's discussion of "nature", of the "wearer", and how you are, compared to them. tsuru doesn't know what his nature is- is he his mask? or is he different from it?

also interestingly enough, they have v contrasting colour pallets and designs- mitsu's black and red and distinctly western design, with tsuru's white and blue, and distinctly traditional japanese design. it's why i like to pair them as Those Two Guys (a trope) wherever possible, because they feel like they naturally have this contrasting theme of outer vs inner self.

tsuru doesn't really need a mask. he is his authentic self. i can't tell if mitsu is his authentic self. he's a mask. (sort of. it's a bit of a stretch with this comparison. lol)

they just have this natural contrast that makes it so interesting to dig into...
