Calimehtamir, the young noble

Brother of Agarwaenor, some say he's the eccentric man's younger mirror. With a mix of dorkish awkwardness and charming friendliness only matched by the smooth ways of his eldest sibling. He is a man of hope and convictions unshaken, and one no doubt son to the house of the storm dragons.

Yseldeir, the scholar's pupil

A young dorkish lady, taken by no one less than headmaster Gilrin herself. Some would say even adopted as her own daughter, with how she dotes upon the young bright mind, and the way one another gaze... only time can tell, though if the pupil shall become her heir... though it does look to be heading that way...

Nar'osul, the distant sentinel

A caring young man, though often times... weird. His upbringing is one of strict habits, a life raised and made for a soldier. Though one can see it in his eyes, the yearning for more... for how can the life of a soldier be called life?

Alador, the young prince

Brother to Bellegur, Alador is a stern prince. Though not devoid of kindness and patience, for he deeply admires his brother's ways. He is a prince of rather stiff manners, polite, yet odd coming to all but those close to him... For any below nobility should be below him, right? yet why does it feel... wrong?

Alador shifted awkwardly on his feet, mumbling to himself. What in Titan's name was he doing here?! He should be at the house, with his kids. Not standing on his exes doorstep like a stray dog. He wasn't a teenager anymore. It was about time he fucking accepted that already.

Fuck it.

He slammed his palm against the ornate doorbell, the sharp ding ringing in his ears.

Immediately the instant regret hit him like a ton of bricks. Guilt and shame rising up in his gut, he swiveled on his heel and began legging it down the driveway. It wasn't too late. He could leave now, whatever was left of his self-respect still intact.

Until he heard the door handle turning and saw the light from inside cast his shadow in front of him. His breath hitched in his throat, his entire body screeching to a halt.

"Alador?"

He turned around to face the speaker like he was waiting for an endless berating, wringing his hands.

Standing in the doorway was Darius Deamonne. He was dressed in a luxurious looking bathrobe, clearly not expecting company at this hour. His face was creased into a confused frown, not that Alador could blame him.

The accused felt his face flush and stammered to explain himself.

"Uh, um H-hi-"

Darius' expression softened for a split second. Titan, this was low, even for Alador's standards. Ah well, no going back now.

It was just past midnight. Hunter had gone up to bed. Whether he managed to sleep or not was up for debate, but with how he had dragged himself up the stairs, yawning and stumbling, Darius was willing to bet  the little prince was out cold.

With Eberwolf retiring to their room down the hall early, Darius was left alone downstairs. Normally he valued beauty sleep above all else, however tonight he couldn't bring himself to turn in for the night.

Leaning against the kitchen island, aimlessly scrolling through Pentstagram, the ringing of the doorbell dragged him out of his thoughts. Mother Titan, he thought he told that short pig thing trying to sell him cheap waistcoats to get lost. No advertiser had the right to rock up at his door at this time, surely.

Grumbling, he wrenched open the front door, words of annoyance his tongue. They caught at the back of his throat however, when it was not a ludicrously irritating salesman greeting him.

"Alador?"

Darius saw the guilty look in his past lover's eyes, the ashamed way he forced himself to meet his gaze. Alador's entire body shook as he scrambled to find an excuse.

Glancing up at the overcast sky, a tell-tale sign of bad weather, he huffed a sigh through his nose.

Darius didn't do pity, but he wasn't cruel.

Turning around he gestured over his shoulder for the witch on his doorstep to follow him. Upon seeing in the corner of his eye Alador standing stock-still in shock, he reached behind him and yanked the man inside by his wrist, just as the pitter-patter of boiling rain started to fall.

"You can sit."

Alador gingerly perched himself on the lush purple couch, not sure if he was entirely welcome.

"Do you still drink coffee?"

Darius looked his guest up and down, noting the deep eye bags and tired posture.

"Nevermind, looks like you've had enough of that to last a lifetime."

Alador's cheeks tinged pink with embarrassment but he didn't deny it.

Setting two freshly brewed mugs of goreberry tea on the coffee table, Darius took a seat opposite Alador. After sipping their tea in silence for a few minutes, he decided to cut to the question that hung over the living room like a dark cloud.

"What are you doing here, Alador?"

Darius asked, in the gentlest voice he could muster. 

His guest squirmed uncomfortably, his eyes darting across the room as if he could find a dignified excuse on the picture frames decorating the walls.

"I um, I didn't- I dont- I- "

He looked down at his feet, avoiding Darius' eyes.

"I didn't want to be alone... again..."

Darius frowned.

"Don't you have a wife?"

Alador laughed hoarsely.

"Yeah, she's dead to me now. I'm done with her bullshit."

He kept his eyes focused on the floor.

"I spent most of my marriage in the workshop. I worked there, I slept there. I don't even know my kids anymore. I've wasted my life attached to that woman."

"......"

"In the end, it was my choice, wasn't it though? I could have stood up to my parents, could have grown a backbone. Could have stayed with you."

Darius felt his throat block up, like the wad of emotion he had thoroughly stamped down for twenty years had taken a physical form.

"I don't deserve it. Whatever they've given me is more than I earned. I never saw them grow up. Never saw them change, become independent. I'm not worth their forgiveness."

A tear rolled its way down Aladors face and as much as he tried to quell them, they kept coming.

Darius awkwardly stood. Tears were never his strong suit. He sat down next to his old sweetheart, murmuring soft words of comfort.

Alador laughed again, if you could even call it that.

"And here I am, a grown man, crying in his exes living room. Titan Darius, I'm sorry I- "

"I don't need your apology."

The words came out harsher than intended, but there they were.

Darius sighed.

"Are you okay?"

It was a pointless question, but one that needed asking anyway.

"No, not really."

Darius wrapped his arm around Alador's shoulders, Alador just barely rested his head on Darius' chest and for a second they were teenagers again, not knowing who they were, where they were going but naively clinging onto the hope they'd do it together.

"I'd better leave. I've taken up too much of your time and energy already."

Darius firmly shook his head.

"No. It's pouring rain outside. I can't send you home in this weather."

And I can't send you home to an empty bed.

That last part went unsaid for the sake of dignity but Darius knew from the twist in the pit of his stomach it was true.

Reaching forward and grasping Alador's hand- Titan why had it been so long since he'd done that? -he lead the man up the staircase.

Something made him completely bypass the guest room and lead Alador further down the hall, arriving at the door to his own bedroom. He turned the door handle as slowly and quietly as he could, praying to the Titan Eber was asleep. If they heard this he would never hear the end of it.

"Make yourself comfortable, I'll be back in a minute"

Alador didn't make a sound, just kind of looked stunned, like he was a bird that had just discovered glass the hard way.

Darius softly padded downstairs with the intention of grabbing a glass of water but instead found himself sitting on the arm of the couch, feeling the weight of the impulsive decision he'd just made.

Was he actually doing this? It wasn't too late, he could go back on it now and-

No. Alador needed this, and even though he would never admit it to himself, Darius wanted it too.

Making his way up those stairs again, he took a deep breath, and stepped over the threshold into his bedroom.

Alador was asleep, his breathing heavy and slow as he was curled up under the covers. Darius climbed in the other side, with his back to the other witch.

And well, he wouldn't ever say it, but something about... this made that night the best he'd ever slept.

"It's getting dark."

They had been there for hours, talking about nothing. It didn't matter, they were young and in love. Nothing mattered because they were together, the entirety of the Boiling Isles could have been ablaze but all they cared about was that his head was in Alador's lap, the breeze that tousled Alador's hair was warm and they were the only people in the world.

"What are you thinking about?"

"I think- I think I love you."

Darius felt his face grow warm.

"You don't mean that."

"I do. I think so anyway."

Darius laughed, which made Alador grin.

"Yeah, that's so reassuring."

"Do you think- Do you think when we're older, we'll get married?"

"... do you want that?"

"... I don't know."

"Neither do I. But do you know what I do know?"

"What?"

"I know that I love you."

He reached his hand up and gently held  Alador's blushing face, moving one of his fluffy locks behind his ear and before either of them knew it, they were kissing and they were the only people in the world again.

Darius awoke, that familiar feeling already settling in his stomach. Disappointment. He should be used to it by now, it had been decades, but every time those stupid memories floated to the surface, every time reality came round to break the fantasy, the emptiness always felt as fresh as all those years ago.

Groaning, he turned over to face the empty sheets but-

Oh.

Right.

He wasn't sure how he managed to get so lost in his head to not notice the arms wrapped around his torso, or the soft slow breathing against his chest.

Rolling onto his back as quietly as possible as to not wake the witch sleeping at his side, Darius closed his eyes, trying to ground himself back to reality again. Taking deep slow breaths through his nose, he absently combed his fingers through Alador's fluffy mane.

He heard the thumps and bumps of people moving around downstairs and let them melt into the background, focusing on the little slice of comfort he was in right now, until he remembered-

"FUCK."

Darius sat bolt upright, throwing the duvet off himself and practically flying out of the bed.

"Shit. Fuckfuckfuckfuck Mother Titan- Mother-fucking-Titan-"

Alador clumsily sat up, squinting sleepily.

"Dare? What's..."

Scrambling to find his slippers, Darius almost didn't notice Alador using the old stupid nickname he used to make a huge show of pretending to not like. Almost. He let it slide, for the time being they had bigger problems to deal with.

"Well, Alador, it seems both of us forgot it was a weekday, which means I have a very eager kid waiting for me to drop him to school at this exact moment."

"... Ah."

"And what happened last night was very irresponsible and impulsive and there is a time and a date to explain that to Hunter, but that time is not now."

Grabbing several coat hangers out of his closet, he leaned back to give Alador his final message.

"So if you could keep quiet and pretend you're not here for a second, that'd be great."

"Uh-"

He slammed the door after him, leaving Alador sitting up in the bed, his brain taking a moment to process what just happened, before-

"SHIT I NEED TO GET THE KIDS TO SCHOOL-"

I wanna read how you'd write Darius having a chat with Hunter about that sorta behavior and jealousy.

“Why did you do that?”

Hunter balled his hands into fists, turning away from Darius’ stern glare. This wasn’t his fault. How was this his fault?

“Little Prince, I asked you a question.”

Hunter kept his head turned away from Darius, the burning in the back of his eyes becoming stronger by the second. No don’t cry, don’t cry, he wasn’t a cry baby, he wasn’t going to cry.

From the corner of his eyes he watched Darius sigh, standing back up to his full height from his crouch. “Whether you’re sorry or not, you need to apologize to Willow young man. You were not raised to shove strangers around.”

“You didn’t raise me at all,” Hunter spat out, crossing his arms. “I’m not lying to her.”

Darius didn’t say anything for a long moment, just enough time for the guilt to start building up inside of him. Great, great, Darius is going to hate him now and send him back to his uncle because he was being mean- and he was horrible and Amity was leaving him but he can’t let Darius leave him too, he couldn’t-

Darius took a step back and Hunter lunged, grabbing the back of Darius’ shirt.

Darius was going to leave just like Uncle because he was bad, but he wasn’t sorry but he didn’t mean to be bad please-

“Little Prince,” two strong hands clamped onto his shoulders as Darius’ face trembled, tears already slipping down his face and chin and ruining the shirt Darius got him-sorry, sorry, sorry. “Hunter. Hunter, look at me.”

Hunter sniffled, snot dripping as he looked up at Darius and felt the smooth fabric of the man’s glove gently brush his tears away.

“…What’s the real reason you shoved Willow Little Prince?” Darius whispered as Hunter nuzzled deeper into his hand, closing his eyes. “And why would you yell at Amity? Aren’t you friends?”

Hunter bit his lip, shaking his head slowly.

“You’re not friends?”

Hunter whined, the sound wobbly as a fresh set of tears trinkled down his face before nodding.

“Really?”

Another nod.

Darius said nothing for a moment, pulling Hunter into his chest. And Hunter rested on the crook of Darius’ neck, worming his way to be under Darius’ chin. One of Darius’ hands scooped him up as Darius eased back onto the ground, a swirl of abomination flowing to form a carpet under them.

‘You never know when it’s last been clean.’ Is what Darius would say to make him feel better.

Darius doesn’t say that this time.

(That either means it’s a very serious talk, or Darius is going to give him back to Uncle for being a bad boy.)

“Did you two… have a fight?”

Hunter slowly shook his head.

“Then… why aren’t you friends anymore?”

Hunter pushed himself closer into Darius, and Darius covered his back with his cape and dropped his head onto Hunter’s. Whenever Darius did this it felt like it was just the two of them, and nothing could ever hurt Hunter again.

“Because she’s friends with Willow now,” he whispered as Darius’s hand moved up and down and up and down on his back. “Because Willow is her best friend now.”

“…Little Prince, that’s not- you do know you can have more than one friend right?”

“No!” Hunter shook his head because Darius just wasn’t getting it- “Willow is her best friend now, not me!”

“I…don’t follow.”

“The rule is you can only have one best friend and Willow said she and Amity were best friends and Amity gave her a best friend bracelet and she never gave me one and-and best means one so don’t say we can have more than one best friend because you can’t-can’t-can’t­-!”

Hunter cut himself off as Darius’ hand made it’s way to the top of his head, shushing him quietly. “Hunter, no, no, you’re still her best friend.”

“Not. Best is only one, you can only have one best friend.”

“Hunter, I-” Darius sighed, moving his hand to rub his back. “Okay, you’re right. But you shouldn’t have shoved Willow. How was that her fault?”

…Well. That’s true.

“Sorry.”

“Not to me Little Prince.”

“I know.”

Darius hummed, tapping Hunter’s back. “And maybe, and hear me out, Amity wants to be both of your best friends.”

Hunter growled, a sound Eber would be proud of. “Best-!”

“Means one, yes Hunter, but what if she doesn’t want to hurt Willow’s feelings? What if she doesn’t want to hurt yours? What if she just wants to have fun with both of you?”

Hunter huffed, pulling away to look up at Darius. “…More than one friend?”

“Yeah! I mean, you need more friends your age that’s not just Amity anyway and you worked hard picking out a gift for Willow.”

He scrunched his face, sticking his tongue out. “Don’t need more friends.”

“Oh? Why not?”

He blinked at Darius, tilting his head. “You only have one friend.”

Hunter didn’t expect Darius’ mouth to drop, stuttering as he put Hunter in his lap. “W-what? No? I have more than one friend!”

Hunter just slowly blinked at Darius, watching the man’s face darken.

“Just-just, never mind!” he sighed, patting the top of Hunter’s head, mussing his hair up. “Will you please apologize now?”

Well, he would now, because he felt pretty guilty. But it was also nice being away from the party, sitting in Darius’ lap and wrapped in his cape.

So Hunter scooched closer and wrapped his arms around Darius’ chest, muttering how he would do it later.

“Five minutes?”

“Ten.”

“Why ten?”

“I have ten fingers.”

Darius heavily exhaled some air, tickling the top of his head and making him giggle. “Fine Little Prince,” Darius wrapped his cape even tighter around Hunter, making what Eda once called a ‘Hunter burrito’. “Ten more minutes.”

So for some context

FIRST!

Re: Josh and Hunter... in my previous fic Stranger Tides, the Hexsquad met Vee's Cabin 7 friends and eventually began to hang out with them along with Vee as she re-established her identity not as Luz's stand in.

I've mentioned this before, but Sweet Child is NOT a sequel to Stranger Tides -- but it does share the root that the Hexsquad became friendly with Cabin 7 over their summer and bonded over pop-culture and music etc.

In Stranger Tides, Josh had a massive crush on Hunter -- who was mostly clueless until the end where he had already established budding relationship with Willow -- and anyway, Josh was a player, which doesn't strike me as Hunters type.

I loved writing Josh so much that the concept of him dating Edric was a fun one I wanted to play with. First, I am aware of the fans who ship Ed and Hunter. The character I call Josh (Joshua Chhibber -- a nod to one of my favorite Desi Geek Girls, Preeti Chhibber. ) is voiced by Zeno Robinson as well. So first, I thought the concept of Hunter's V.O. technically hitting on himself was funny. And then I just kinda wanted to play with the concept of Josh dating Edric -- whom I adore and wanted more of in canon.

in Stranger Tides, when Josh met Hunter, he gave him a cafe drink with his (Josh's) number written on the side, instead of Hunter's name and teased Vee (disguised as Luz at that point) for bringing him a Targaryen Prince to date (Hunter's eyes would have still been magenta at that point).

Josh was never that aggressive. He was aware that Hunter was a hot mess and had another love interest -- but he still flirted a lot -- and in spite of this Josh always seemed to be dating someone new and forgetting to break up with the last one.

Second:

Re: Gavin.

It's difficult for me to write Gavin's character as awful as he is -- because without too much info about my personal life, Gavin is also the name of a very sweet kid in my life. Either way, his character works best in this context.

We've already seen Gavin's father (whom he was desperate to impress in canon) as an antagonist in Sweet Child. Gawain Tripe was scoffing at Alador's proposal to have Tripe Corp invest in tech that removes sigils. Gawain also made comments against basilisks, grimwalkers, and to a lesser degree, humans.

Gavin hints that his father's company has a common interest with Tibble's campaign.

Third:

Re: Darius' Arrival and Hunter's push to stand up for himself.

Yeah, so Darius HAS arrived ... finally. This is as Gavin makes comments (jokes?) suggesting that Tibbles would like to see Hunter executed for (supposedly) targeting Bonesborough businesses that displayed support for his very speciesist campaign.

Hunter is finally allowing himself to express anger for what is being done to him by the tabloids -- AND by Tibbles who had run a tabloid (acquired by Odalia) and is now running for a major office that could have dire consequences not only for Hunter as the last grimwalker, but for his and Willow's child.

With this, Gavin drops some of that propaganda from the so-called history books which Flora lauds. Historically, he claims that the sentence for a "disobedient grimwalker" was death -- so there's a precedent -- and that brings us to Belos' pit.

While Darius has shown up, Hunter is remembering the press conferences he was propped up at -- by Darius' suggestion. He'd never told Darius "no", but at the time he would never have stood up for himself. He trusted Darius that these conferences were for the best -- even though each one ripped him apart.

Darius has arrived... but is his presence actually helping? Or is it digging up more anger?

The idea that Hunter could be imprisoned or executed for any reason is literally what Vee had been afraid of happening to him.

But in this case, who benefits most from this?

For Chapter 71 we're returning to BACHELOR PARTY FOR STEVE to get a better picture as to what happened the night in question.

There's no true equality until gay guys in fantasy stories get to actually be interesting. We have enough depressed 30 something twunks who watched their husbands die or whatever, I wanna see a mercenary tasked with capturing the prince, but instead they run away together from their respective authorities and go on awesome adventures together.

Like c'mon- lesbians get to be these badass witches and warriors and princesses and stuff, and then the one gay guy is just some dude with a tragic backstory who probably doesn't even get a love interest. Where's the monster fucker representation?? I'll reiterate the point I made in my post about Gary from Fionna and Cake, there's a reason Bowser is a fan favourite with gay gamers.

I loved the owl house but the one thing that disappointed me was the fact that there was such good lgbtq representation, yet basically no M/M rep. Like, Luz and Amity had a really nice and well developed relationship, and Raine's entire existence makes me smile, they're lovely, I would die for them. But then the most M/M rep we get is a few seconds in the final scene implying that Darius maybe likes Alador and it's literally the first time they're on screen at the same time, and someone stating OUTSIDE OF THE SHOW that "Oh yeah, Hunter is bi btw"

And then helluva boss is just a whole gay trash fire that I'm not even gonna get into here. Expect Asmodeus and Fizzarolli. Love those guys.

Some thoughts below:

I am considering taking C!Dream off of this poll. This isn't because I have any opinions on the character. This is mainly because, from what I've seen, the controversy surrounding C!Dream only partially stems from things in his story. A larger part of the controversy is surrounding Dream the real-life Youtuber, which I don't want to get involved in.

The other characters on this list are known outside of their fandoms because of discourse surrounding the characters themselves. Meanwhile, people who aren't into MCYT are only aware of Dream the character because of the controversies surrounding Dream the creator. While discourse on other characters on the poll may spread to their creators, the majority of discourse I've seen on C!Dream was spread to him from his creator. This, in my opinion, doesn't fit with the other characters and isn't something I want on my poll.

Additionally, some people regarding C!Dream have been overstepping boundaries and otherwise making me uncomfortable, both privately and in the tags and replies of polls. When I said I wanted to learn about discourse surrounding the characters of this poll, I didn't want discourse about the creator to overshadow discourse about the character. I especially didn't want to be pressured to make a judgment call on discourse in a fandom I wasn't a part of.

Right now, the way to take C!Dream off the poll would be to have Homura automatically go to round 3, whether she gets the majority vote or not. Another option would be to replace C!Dream with another character (I'm considering Iroha Nijiue from Super Danganronpa Another 2), and have them go up against Mabel. The winner from that poll would go against Homura. In this case, I would be making a single post on the 24th with three polls: Mabel vs. the replacement, Mabel vs. Homura, and the replacement vs. Homura.

Whoever wins the first poll, I'll be taking the winner from their poll against Homura and having that character move to round 3. This is to save time. I will be making the final decision on whether to take C!Dream off tomorrow. Unless a significant number of people want the second option, I will just move Homura up to round 3 automatically.

Me taking C!Dream off is not an indictment of either side of C!Dream or Dream discourse. It's just that I don't think this character is a good fit for the Vriska poll. If you disagree, I invite you to make your own poll with C!Dream. Maybe you'll have other characters that could count as Vriskas that I didn't even think of. Good luck.

My Obsession With Character Names Pays Off Right Here Right Now

I have literally never posted here but I decided that since I spent today writing about the the name of the characters in The Owl House instead of prepping for finals, someone should see it. FIRST NAME

LILITH

Ok so because I'm lilith’s bitch we are gonna start with her because her name is so cool and I love her and we should be besties Lilith hmu. Anyways as most people know Lilith is a pre existing mythological character which makes this very much good because that means it’s all outlined. Most people know her as a demonic figure, which I very much dig but similar to our lovely queen of curses out here, that's not all she is. There isn’t going to be a chronological explanation of similarities and conclusions, cope. The basic gist is that Lilith was this chick with fiery red hair (this is important iykyk) who refused to be beneath or below adam, more specifically to subjugate to him, funny because of the tapestry with belos what says subjugation on it, probably a coincidence but I do not believe in coincidence right now. Anyways basically she runs off and becomes this chick who like snatches children and will make them sick if they don’t have an amulet with the names Senoy, Sansenoy, or Semangelof on them, thats a different story but what I find interesting is this one passage,

“(12) Her nobles shall be no more, nor shall kings be proclaimed there; all her princes are gone. (13) Her castles shall be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She shall become an abode for jackals and a haunt for ostriches. (14) Wildcats shall meet with desert beasts, satyrs shall call to one another; There shall the Lilith repose, and find for herself a place to rest. (15) There the hoot owl shall nest and lay eggs, hatch them out and gather them in her shadow; There shall the kites assemble, none shall be missing its mate. (16) Look in the book of the LORD and read: No one of these shall be lacking, For the mouth of the LORD has ordered it, and His spirit shall gather them there. And there are separate part of this that I find relevant, especially the description of the location, i’m not all that familiar with symbolism of animals in religious texts, so i’m gonna take it at face value and say that this is more or less a description that could be given to the physical owl house itself, sort of a place for people who don’t fit in, its a little messy and I guess one could say overgrown, but it’s a place for anyone, a place to rest now hopefully for Lilith away from the coven, there shall the Lilith repose. On top of that we see the “the hoot owl…” and you’re probably thinking what that so crazy wacko because like why are they referring to Lilith as the hoot owl isn't Eda the owl lady, yes she is. That’s why the actual meanings of lilith’s name that come from her mythological depiction as a demon lady are so important. We have night monster, night owl, night spectre, vampires, night hag, night creature, nightjar (which is another kind of bird), and night bird, all of these seem to fit lilith’s dark aesthetic very nicely which is very good for her, but there are two other ones, hot owl and screech owl, which draw her closer to Edaand away from the coven and her depiction in the mid-later episodes of the show as a monster for cursing eda, but also the name night monster could come into play if while sharing the curse Lilith acquired some of its traits, similar to Edaas the owl beast. Ultimately, we have this little red head girl who eventually fights back against the men who are attempting to get her to be under them, for the character that is belos, for the other Lilith that is adam, god, and his angels, and now hopefully both of them will find solace and repose among the owls in a place they never thought they’d belong. All this talk of owls and god brings us into the other clawthorne baddie:

EDA

For this I'm going to use her full name edalyn, because you know like that’s just how it be it is her name. There isn’t a wiki page for her name like there is for Lilith which makes this a little bit harder but the general consensus seems to be that it means something along the lines of “gift of god”, which I find very interesting. If you are going to name a child gift of god i’m assuming that you are referring to the child themselves, but I don’t think that really applies to eda. I’m not religious, but its my impression that someone who lies cheats pranks and steals their way to the top and isn’t exactly the most responsible witch on the isles might not be the best gift god could give. I do really love Eda though, her character flaws are still a part of her character, but I think this refers to her powers. Eda considers herself to be the boiling isles gift to magic, which I mean like, have you seen the woman. In agony of a witch we see her at what probably 30% of her power with how much the curse was already tolling on her and how much magic she was probably using to fight it off, and like goddamn. She was almost beating lilith, definitely beating the shit out of her, but she was almost defeating Lilith who was at her full power, and that is just a fraction of what she used to be able to do. Her powers were a gift of god, and I think that the loss of them will greatly affect her. She’s already admitted that she doesn’t know how to do much without her magic, and I think going straight from the second most powerful witch on this isles to having no power at all is going to be incredibly taxing on her, physically and mentally.

Luckily for her the name edalyn also means patience, another thing about her name is that it not only means gift of god, but also similar things like gifted by the gods or even goddess, and this draws a connection to Lilith who is named after a demonic figure, casted out for having defied god, they are quite literally polar opposites on the name spectrum, and we see that a lot in the show, they are completely different people, I mean have you looked at them they don’t even look related, but the funnier thing is that their personalities do the same thing. You’d expect Edain her youth to be a gift from the devil, just ask principal bump, and Lilith seemed to be a goody two shoes who worked her ass off, their names could be switched based off their characters alone.

A random baby name site I found said that :

Which I mean like very much applies to eda, she takes change like a champ, either genuinely or by pretending she’s ok with everything, and is always seeking excitement. Like literally all of the time. Always. I think she takes felonies as a compliment, and one of the biggest changes in her life that she genuinely was able to adapt to and appreciate was

LUZ

Ok I think at this point everyone knows that at this point the name Luz means light, and if you didn't, oopsies now you do. The character Luz was named and designed after a real life person the miss dana terrace knew at the time she was starting to really think about the show, Luz ’s personalty comes more from dana herself and we love that, but the character has really started to grow into her name. This is made most obvious when the first spell Luz learns is the light glyph, not only coming into her own as a witch, but also starting to live up to her name, which along with light also has to do with “Our Lady of Light”, which is the virgin mary, fitting her right in with the other biblical names we got going on here. I really want to stress that I know next to zero about religion, and all of the connections I am making come from wikipedia, so bare with me here. But most of the time mary seems to be this pure, saint like figure, which I think is what a lot of people see Luz as, especially on the isles. I’m going to flat out say that this is in no way meant to pass off Luz as simple minded, pure, or oblivious, because we have seen what that girl is willing to do, she faced death and poked him in the with an ice cicle. In terms of life on the isles, however, she is more or less pure and sheltered, she’s completely new to the world she’s in, but she does quickly adapt, and shows more of her strong side, and remains a good person throughout all of it, taking losses as they come, and not letting them remain losses at the same time.

Back to the whole light thing, we already touched on the whole literal bit of her and the light spell, but can you think of a better way to describe Luz ? She literally brings light everywhere she goes, even Eda admits that she’s changed things for the better, for everyone around her too. Willow got a new friend, probably the first friend she’s had in a long time, and even got to begin repairing her relationship with amity, and got placed in the plant track so she could do the things she loves, all because of Luz . Edagot to grow as a person and a mentor, and finally got someone willing to accept all her eda-ness, unconditionally, someone to really care about that really cares about her back, all because of Luz . Amity got a friend who cares about her, not just her family name and money, someone who supports her and will do anything for her because she is her friend, and a bit of self discovery along the way for amity, all because of Luz . Not a single person on the isles who has had more than 2 minutes of interaction with Luz hasn’t had their lives improved, even belos got his portal, and the thing is that even characters who people might not even consider changed have been, characters such as

KING

The name king itself is obvious, he is royalty, the king of demoNS HIMSELF ASMODEUS hahahaha pulled a sneaky on you now accept my ideas as your own. I am on a mythological name kick, deal with it. The most important thing here is in the bible, asmodeus poses himself as a false god, which I know is something we have all considered with king, that he might be a full on liar, not be a king of anything and is just your ordinary street demon, it’s even come up in the show with him calling himself the king of artists and Luz asking him if he was just making it up at this point. It’s a good theory, I can see it, and this could be used as proof. There is also another legend that paints him as a good natured dude, who eventually banishes the king by literally throwing him, and then he loses his powers and is banished, but this is also the same legend where he marries Lilith and that is not something I am down for. There is another text in which he tells the king (the same one he threw in the other one) that his kingdom will one day be divided and the king does not believe him, and this is the same text where he admits to hating water and birds because they remind him of god. Lets think class, who has the god name and is related to birds here? King’s name by itself holds true to his character, who (regardless of if it is truthful or not) holds himself as if he is a king, and he isn't the only one with a name like that, there is also

WILLOW

Ok I know we all thought it, willow, the plant girl, how fiendishly clever. This also happens to be the only descriptor for her name I could find, which is totally fine because I think it’s a very cute name and willow is also very cute. This means we get to go into the symbolism of the willow tree wwwooooOOOOO aren’t you so very excited I know I am. Its kind of interesting, willow trees seem to match the character, understanding, warm, a safe space really, but most of all the ability to let go of pain and suffering, sometimes outright ignore it, and move on. Willow does always say out of sight out of mind does she not? She is willing to ignore, even excuse people bullying her, be it bosha or even amity, and the moment she got the chance her inner willow decided to try and literally burn the painful memories she had, willing to cause damage just to forget. Willow as a character is very willing to move on like nothing happened most of the time, key word most because another thing about willows is the ability to grow from the pain. Before understanding willow, we never really saw willow stand up for herself until she really had to, but hy the end of the episode she is willing to tell amity that she isn’t willing to fully forgive her, but she’s willing to grow and try. Heck, we see this over the entire first season, we see this little girl who can barely pull it together long enough to stand up for herself grow into this amazing character willing to publicly oppose the emperor and break into his castle for her friend, she tried to full out attack Lilith when 19 episodes earlier she wasn’t able to stand up to amity for bullying her. And I am in no way calling willow weak, she never was, she just needed to find the ability to show everyone that she’s strong, god I love willow so much, you wanna know who else loves willow?

GUS

Gus, my main man, love you but for this we are gonna have to use the full on augustus sorry babes. The name augustus means majestic, or venerable, which while I must say that the illusion of kiki doing the worm was probably one of the most majestic things I have ever seen, I’m going to focus on venerable a bit more here. Venerable is a big word, it means “accorded a great deal of respect, especially because of age, wisdom, or character.”, which for gus the age part might play a smaller part here, but he is good as what he does, Luz and willow both respect him, Eda Respects him, he’s this little dude who is younger than everyone and has to rely on his ability to succeed, not inly with his power but with his personality.Gus seems to be confident in himself, communicating with everyone regardless of who they are or what power they hold, similarly to willow he was willing to do anything to help Luz , leading into the second description of venerable, “heroic in nature”. Now, you might be wondering, bestie where ever did you get that description, it totally wasn’t from a religious page okyesitwas but that's fine because being pronounced venerable guarantees a spot in heaven so get it bestie. Overall, the general meaning for augustus is that they are strong, respectable, and powerful, which takes us right into the

ASSORTED BLIGHTS

The blight first names bring me joy so I am putting amity last because I think its really funny, starting off with alador, the name alador evokes diplomacy, correctness, and confidence. We know zilch about alador, but if the vibes of the blight family have anything to say it’s definitely something along those lines. The name odalia means wealth, which I mean like have you seeeen blight manor? Also back at it again with the fact that it’s a variant of the name odilia, like the saint olilia which I don't have ties for you right now because again, we know nothing about her. Edric also means wealth, fortune, riches, powerful, you get the vibes, same thing with emira which means commander, or prince, princess, leader, or star. So you know like we have all these super powerful names happening, and then, oh boy and then we get to little miss perfect herself, amity blight. It means friendship, or harmony. If I was her I would be so mad at my parents like yall have these mad powerful names and I got stuck with friendship? Hand me the emancipation papers. You know what they say, friendship is the real magic (even if no longer taught in schools due to budget constraints). I hope that this leads more into season 2 with amity working on her friendships and ultimately her relationships in general, which we got a bit of already with her working on repairing her relationship with willow, and making the moves to cut off old toxic friendships and moving into more genuine ones with willow, Luz , and gus. I guess you could say that the only thing ALL the blights have in common with each other is their

LAST NAME

BLIGHT

The word blight by itself means a plant disease which boy oh boy can you believe how nicely that fits into amity bullying willow because I sure can. Outside of just the plant bit it overall just means like something that damages another thing, and this works beautifully for each member of the family. The parents are damaging their children, the twins just causing general damage, and amity and her goddamn relationships, but fortunately that whole plant thing brings us into the next couple of last names

CLAWTHORNE

The last name clawthorne means “cold or exposed thorn tree” which had me kind of like what the heck so I went off and had some fun and got you some presents that I think are funny, so there was this guy right, his name was joseph clawthorne, and he created the term whiffenpoof, which is the name for a wildly fictitious animal, things like a jackalope, or even a griffin with spider breath, though I guess that would be the work of a

NOCEDA

Back again with the trees good lord, it means field of nut trees, so again I went into prominent people an found this guy named jorge noceda sanchez, he was a painter and some of his works are kinda baller actually it seems like something that would fit in on the isles, but also not all of the names have a deeper meanings, names like

Ok I am like pretty sure this was just meant to be a play on the fact that gus’ dad’s name is perry and is a reporter, get it, perry porter, perry porter, reporter, but nonetheless I did some digging because why the heck not, it means doorkeeper, or gate keeper, someone who guards something like an important building, which honestly I think this would be a good last name for hooty if he ever gets one, but again not all of these are important names at the moment, or maybe they won't ever be at all, names like

PARK

At first I was kinda like l m a o willow park plant girl hahahahah plants in the park parks have trees willow is a tree but then I remembered that someone pointed out that park is a traditionally korean surname and then like a week later disney posted about it for aisian pacific american heritage month which kind of confirmed it, and I don’t know if the whole intention behind it was to establish willow as representation or not, but the surname park by itself means gourd and willow I am so sorry that is so unfortunate LMAOSIFN

Most of his depiction is as a great king or ruler, in babylonian mythology being the equivalent of zeus of jupiter, which liiikkkkkeeeoajolnjojnkjakjavnjfvdfkjf but its fine everything is great its all ok most importantly, he is recognized as the god or ruler of war, and in that same mythology he lived in babylon, which “... was originally water, and called a sea. First and foremost, she is a little night gremlin who hates children and I think that really fits her, but she is also a little house demon, who is very difficult to get to leave, have we seen her outside the castle? Will she be a spy along with the mask next season? She also has a name that means nightmare or night demon, similar to a certain other night creature we might have heard of a while ago. She tried to strangle children and I love that for her,and she is described as a little old ugly messy haired lady and I feel like her current character has the personality of one so i’ll take it, but what really gets me is her villain origin story, which is that she "grows up with a magician in the mountains. From dawn to sunset the magician’s cat regales Kikimora with fantastic tales of ancient times and faraway places, as Kikimora rocks in a cradle made of crystal. It takes her seven years to reach maturity, by which time her head is no larger than a thimble and her body no wider than a strand of straw. Kikimora spins flax from dusk and to dawn, with evil intentions for the world.”

Consider - Alador Blight meets Ponder Stibbons and they commiserate over being unappreciated, before Alador realises how much worse he has it. Alador leaves Blight industries for UU where he actually gets to do research. He thinks Ridcully is a great and noble leader, because his standards are so low.

Alador combines his research on abominations with Ponder's research on Hex and thinking machines, and they start creating sentient abominations. Inevitably, these creatures start demanding rights and a nicer title than "abomination", and the golem trust is there to help them.

Belos tries to rabble-rouse again and somehow become emperor of the discworld, but is brought before the patrician who gives him a cold and sarcastic lecture about how to behave in the city, and gives him a little speech on the importance of choice. The next evening, Lord Downey receives an envelope containing a million dollars and a contract on "a has-been 400 year old eldritch goop monster", direct from the palace.

Belos storms into the watch house holding a young UU student, accuses them of being a witch, and demands to be made witchfinder general since "clearly, the commander of the watch is unable to handle this scourge". Vimes asks him to explain how witch-hunting works (while Nobby sneaks behind belos with a cosh, naturally). Vimes' voice gets quieter and quieter as he repeatedly asks belos how that has anything to do with justice. The discussion turns into an interrogation the minute belos mentions the Boiling Isles, and when he explains the draining spell... Well, let's just say Mr Vimes goes spare. Belos thinks he's going to finally die, but he just ends up thrown in the palace Dungeons for eternity. The witches from Lancre visit on occasion, just to say hello and throw some tomatoes at him.

Eda starts running scams through the post (Nigerian prince style), and Moist is torn between wanting to stop her and wanting to enjoy the show. He hunts her down, invites her to dinner with him and Adora, and Eda and Adora take turns mocking him and his ridiculous outfits.

Nobody is quite sure how to deal with the Collector, so they ask death and/or Susan to keep him busy. Death tries to build a swing with them (properly this time), but they both keep cheating by using their powers. Susan comes back to see them both having a wonderful time together, and the collector insists that they invite King over next time.

Hunter goes to Biers (the undead bar) to talk about being a grimwalker, and immediately finds several other people with similar stories. Reg Shoe press-gangs him into the Undead Liberation Front (or whatever it was called) on the grounds that the Golden Guard has died several times.

Raine has a run-in with the musician's guild and Eda with the thieves' guild, and they end up having to protect each other from both. They get into a heated argument over whether it's better to start an inter-guild war (Eda's idea) or just pay the fee (Raine), and both guilds back off to give them a moment. Eventually it ends up with Raine's Rhapsody and Eda's Requiem being performed at the Ankh-Morpork opera house.

Gus tries desperately to reconcile his knowledge of the human world with Ankh-Morpork, and fails miserably. He falls in love with the city, and makes it his life quest to discover the second verse of the anthem, before realising that the "her-ner-ners" and forgotten words are in the original. Gus also triggers a minor panic in the palace when he starts creating illusory stage shows, and Vetinari thinks it's moving pictures all over again. Gus also gets excited about the guild system (he initially thinks it's just covens, before realising how much weirder the guilds are).

Since Ankh-Morpork has everything, Gus eventually finds a mildly psychic therapist to help him through his trauma of witnessing Belos' memories. Actually, everyone gets assigned a therapist. Hunter gets a whole platoon of them to himself.

I don't know how Luz and Amity going on a date in Ankh-Morpork would go, but I know there would be several shenanigans.

Rincewind spends years trying to learn Hunter's teleportation trick to help him run away more easily.

The song "a wizard's staff has a knob on the end" is, with great reluctance, updated to reflect the realisation that some staves can also have cute birds or chameleons.

Vetinari immediately hires Terra to be his receptionist. It annoys her to no end, and it cuts down on unnecessary petitioners.

I’d kill for Discworld and Owl House Crossover. The idea of Tiffany Aching and Luz Noceda becoming friends is so adorable, and Eda meeting the Lancre Coven would be amazing. Her and Nanny Ogg would definitely hit it off, though I’m not too sure she’d get along with Granny Weatherwax. I can either see them bonding over their apprentices becoming friends or fighting because they’re both stubborn af with very opposing views on magic. Let’s be real, we all know Granny would probably dislike most of the magic done in the Boiling Isles since it kind of borders on wizard magic and “occult nonsense” when compared to the witchcraft she prefers. Eda would probably think Granny is too uptight and get annoyed by that testing thing she always does with everyone, and you can bet she wouldn’t do that witch thing where they act overly polite and formal with each other when they really dislike someone. Eda can’t be having with that. If she hates your guts, she’ll tell you. She would probably be interested in that borrowing thing Granny does though.

Of course she’d love the Feegles, Eda would feel like they’d have a lot to learn from each other. Like, how to get into places or the joys of drinking apple blood.

Then there’s Willow and Magrat bonding over their plant knowledge and you can bet she’d be interested in learning about the Palismans too.

Lilith and Miss Tick would get along famously, I think. I feel like they share a lot of similar interests.

And could you imagine Agnes discovering Bard Magic?
