More spider!paranoia!Virgil for this AU

there should've been at least a full view of Fíli's body in the funeral scene
"Fíli you didn't deserve any of this" we all say in unison
#you already know how much i hate the way the hobbit movies are not canon-accurate at all#but what my boy Fili did to deserve such erasure... not even Mahal knows#not only he's the “least important Durin” in the movies somehow?? like he's literally the heir?? hello???#(Thorin's the king and we have that -ugh- Kíli subplot... nothing for Fíli)#we didn't even get a full body view like the rest of the departed. why.#but tbh I hate the funeral scene in general in the movies (the whole change w/ the Elvenking's character) so yeah#this is just the cherry on top#before anyone comes for my head for anything I've said: the movies are great movies BUT most definitely not good the hobbit adaptations#never in a million years will I ever say “if you don't feel like reading the book just watch the movie and I'll tell you the rest :)”#because literally no YOU'll be telling me the rest 😭#but also never in a million years will I ever say “please for the love of everything holy do NOT ever watch those terrible halfling films”#the hobbit#fili and kili#fili durin#kili durin#the hobbit thorin#thorin oakenshield#the hobbit movies

thinking about their friendship so hard
#camp camp#cc#David#jasper#fanart#DUDEEE nobody gets them like i do theyre so good#theyre so tragic.. they never truly got to know each other. the last time they ever seen each other they were angry with the other :(#but there’s so much regret that comes with it too. they never got to talk it out. be on good terms#they could see each other at any moment but they other doesn’t know#they call each other best friends yet we never really see them being best friends.. but maybe they get each other like no one else does#their personalities did a complete swap with each other - they understand how the other is thinking and feeling.#David hated the camp but after one good thing he loves it. viseversa with jasper#when they last saw each other they were clouded with their views and didn’t try to understand things from their lens#yet even if they didn’t - they still understood each other. if you get what I mean#theyre foils. but so is max and david and that’s what makes both relationships compelling for me. theyre so similar to each other#no wonder david is so attached to max. he sees himself in him and he sees jasper in him too#i know jaspers just a character to show how bad the camp is. but there’s so much depth to him too#he has a lot of missed potential.. i hope he’s in season 5 at least. id like to see him again#srry for the character analysis im insane#jaspvid

On my walk home from the cafe I was thinking about Sanji (as one does) and how every influence in his life for 19 years screamed at him to hunker down, stay silent, and never appear weak.
As much as I love Zeff and know he loved Sanji, it's clear he has such a straight-laced and unflinching view of masculinity and what it means to be a man. The environment on the Baratie was an extension of that.
It was a machismo world where affection was hidden behind kicks to the head and insults. The kind of environment where cutting your hand or something gets a response of "what? You call that an injury? Don't cry over nothing". Where outright kindness has to be dragged out of people, and then immediately covered up with a half-baked insult.
Throw into that environmemt a little boy who is desperate to prove he's not the failure he was told he was, and out pops a man who wears his heart on his sleeve for "acceptable manly emotions" but who hides real emotions behind anger, and hides pain (physical or emotional) altogether so as not to seem weak.
Tack onto that the idea that the only surefire way to show love is through self sacrifice (his mom + Zeff), then of course Sanji will be all sorts of jacked up.
We see throughout the series how Sanji is so unwilling to be vulnerable or to even admit he's feeling hurt at all. Plaster a smile on, make some comment about loving women, and voila! He's the man's man everyone expects. No need to worry about him. After all: he's strong.
...🥺
#op meta#the news coo latest#sanji#i have like 10 different sanji-centric fics rolling around in the ol' noggin#but every single one of them features at least one scene where someone (Zoro) sees through his hyper-masculine bullshit#what really interests me is when sanji is forced to confront that fucked up view of the self he has#like for example: Zoro gets hurt and allows himself to rest or something and is unapologetically fine with being 'weak'#sanji so desperately wants to rib him for it but zoro is so stoic about it that he starts to realize 'oh...its ok...to not be ok? publicly?'#imma sit here and stew on this for awhile#Anyway the coffee from the cafe is good but now I need to go read as much Sanji trauma dump fic I can get my hands on lol#to be clear btw: i dont doubt zeff cared for sanji when he was down but i feel sanji had to be in a bad way to get the 'real emotions'

Druas and Eva
#my characters#they have an older brother who is v expressive and friendly and then they just do not emote#they are actually part of a different cast/group than oifil but its the exact same location and time and they do have some crossover#so druas has a coworker that is basically chris' adopted son (as karen and right view him at least)#and druas hears about luca being a lot reckless and with no self awareness so he recruits his dear sister eva#to help monitor luca (which luca hates) bc eva has military training and is good at going unnoticed#but when he tells eva to protect luca from anything that might harm him and then she sees them together#she kinda gets in front of luca and is like hey youre causing him distress which is bad for the mental health#and druas is like did you just call me a threat to him ?? and luca thinks THAT is actually hilarious and he likes eva now#but these two dont really interact with the other cast much - its mostly just luca that talks to the oifil peeps#i never designed the older brother or named him but theres just two blondes with no expression + their older brother who has all expression

wah i looove their designs and animation...
#sketched last night looped ''hot air balloon'' track last night rewatched elemental last night you know just how it is....i love it all augh#elemental#elemental 2023#pixar elemental#elemental fanart#ember lumen#wade ripple#it's so fun how just going w/the flow waviness drawing a wade is Correct. some flamey shiveriness / jaggedness in ember's lines is Correct#and it's all the more fun how it's like oh ofc not quite hitting the mark of how great their designs really are....so so good#and of course the expressive elasticity not only with their faces but the way their bodies ft. respective elements can be expressive#in addition to just usual [assume you have a usual literal human body] expressiveness options in posture / movement etc lol#also was thinking about how like we know everything we Need to know re: wade & his dad but also have so [zero details there]#which is interesting to wonder about. kinda assumed like oh a parent got sick & died but now considering how it could've been an accident..#the tiny layer of A Reaction he has when ember's talking abt parents giving up everything for you: could be nothing much; or Anything#also noting i Didn't note the first instances that they hear each other's names or introduce themselves thusly lol#or at least i sure can't recall it. just start knowing the other's name partway through which Isn't A Problem but it's like#ooh just more to consider & reexamine. i love to pick up More Details & that's helped by my difficulty in catching them in the first place#one thing about me i don't Catch things i don't Notice shit i don't Get stuff. and also of course: i do though lol#always a trip when it's like oh i love this movie i'm seeing it probably the two dozenth time#and then i notice something for the very first time that was clearly straightup meant to be Gotten upon the immediate viewing#even to the extent that smthing later seems to be kinda happening out of nowhere if you didn't. & i'd just rolled with it#like ok i'm autistic ofc that's something i gotta do all the time. & the adhd means i might keep getting distracted around the same pts.

oughh i wanted to do a cute laishuro take on the blu ray extras (what if laios had been eaten instead) but lets be honest. they absolutely would not have made it as far without laios
#they wouldve died. badly.#unfortunately ive lost the link saw it on twitter but i think laios gets knocked unconscious and imagines that it had been him that got ate#and not falin. and falin is the only one to advocate for them going back#but no one wants to go along with her presumably because they dont care for laios that much#(or at least this is laios' perception as this is just his imagination)#but also because she doesnt know as much about monsters and couldnt come up with a good argument for going back in#<- didnt know about prolonged digestion in red dragons and marcille assumed the interval was the same as in humans (1-3 days)#BUT...................... when everyone leaves falin turns back and goes in herself. and laios realises that shes always been that sort#of person and theres no point in ruminating over what could have been.#now. i want to believe that had they known falin would turn back without them. that at the very least shuro would have gone in with her.#theres no way he would have let her go on her own. and frankly i dont think he would have assembled his retainers#to go save laios rip...#marcille would have gone if she had known falin would turn back. and honestly i think she mightve known her well enough to guess this irl#anyways what i was GOING to say was maybe as they venture thru the dungeon shuro gets to learn more about laios thru falins view#maybe they get to know each other more and he opens up more about how he thinks of laios and like. falin is able to explain more about him#diffuse tension and give him a better understanding. like yeah hes still annoyed at him but he has a better view of how laios is#they get close and become better friends but maybe it also helps falin make up her mind and let him down gently............................#and maybe they go and save laios but the dragon thing still happens to him#and its again a 'you felt like that all along??' situation irt him wanting to be a monster but it turns out ok and they (laishuro)#open up to one another in the end.........................#but. again im gonna be real. they would not have made it that far LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO laios the goat for real

I know probably not the best time to ask. However, please send words of affirmation, kind vibes (and prayers if you pray), and overall optimism.
Thursday I am getting my on and off intense migraines checked over by a medical professional or doctor.
I know it could be colder temperatures, stress, dehydration, mental health, to grinding my teeth, but my head been in various levels of pain that I needed to ask a medical professional to check.
It is so bad that Tuesday night I felt a pain that started passable to an intense that I never experienced before.
I just feel worse as when asking my family who do have medical experience, one stated could be something I pray it is not.
I wanted to NOT burden my pals with this news, yet with recent more world size news, I thought it would be alright to open up.
I may need an MRI because the pain all localized on my right of my head. Again I hope this is going to have a manageable outcome.
Please in the meantime my friends who read this, just know I will post updates and I hope you are doing well.
#personal#health#this scares me as I hope my brain is alright#I rarely get scared#to be fair I am shocked by the news for America#I do not want to be political but here the thing#even if yes it is no secret where my views are#everyone deserves a person to represent their political party who very knowledgeable of their stances#a certain someone won and I pity the fact he represents people of that political side#I just feel it is not a huge ask for someone to show an ability to represent themselves with civil grace or at least good sportsmanship#I would say this about both sides too as I feel times need to be less polarized#vent

,,, little lemmings in line...
#adamandi#needed this. idk. shameless fluff. i. sjdhdjfhfhfhfhf viewing this doodle just makes me happy ok#something silly. i feel like lately i've been a lot more earnest on this blog and it's nice!!#the imagery that the lyrics evoke.... goes so hard actually. consider this maybe an outtake of the last 'where can i run' thingy#yes i get the whole lemmings off a cliff thing but also i think taking it at face value would be cute therefore this#since basically they refer to the rest of the students as lemmings.. he's human in this one i guess.#quincent thoughts. many many. but also i have been maybe avoiding engaging with quincy on a more intense level? until i am in a better#mental state to do so. because the whole academic perfection and self harm is a Thing i would like to engage with Properly without spirals#yay on me for being healthy about media! not normal and never normal. but healthy is good i guess#... hm. family is being iffy lately because you're supposed to have good acads And not stressed but i refuse to feel guilty anymore.#after this period i'll go bonkers over him and in the meantime unfortunately they won't feature as much in the content.. :<#anyways. fun fact about lemmings is that it's not necessarily a derogatory blindly leaping to deaths thing when it comes to the actual ones#like that's the phrasing and connotation right. but apparently it's more of they leap off cliff into water below or smth to migrate and onl#the rare few die (skill issue??um) and apparently the whole association was propagated by some documentary wildlife drama thing that kind o#.... hastened the chasing of the poor things off the cliff and filmed it. a bit messed up. and like i guess what a nice metaphor for the#academic context here? or a different one at least. where only a few die so they keep doing it but also for the Average lemming following#following the system is not inherently bad.. maybe i'm projecting.#anyways peep the tiny character shorthands now.. ambrose has the jacket/ bea has the hat and gloves with strings: portia has the bow on hea#quincy has the bowtie and glasses /(beatrix also has glasses. i forgot about those until i was drawing quincy's.)#'avvy why are they standing up' you ask? because four legs looked weird with ambrose's jacket. 'why did you give lemmings glasses?' ummmmm#i guess recognisability? don't look too much into it#outtakes of this include vincent standing in a circle of lemmings. it's badly drawn and frankly hilarious because they're all tiny and#below the knee.#'avvy these don't look like realistic lemmings' you are very right. i am sorry. i looked for a crowd of lemmings on google images and all i#found were political cartoons... i Can draw animals technically i swear#anyways! emotional support adamandi doodle out. going to start work now!#oh i forgot to tag the characters... hm... i guess i'll leave out the lemmings..#?#vincent aurelius lin#.

As a side note I think what makes Succession such an excellent critique of capitalism is how it handles the idea of meritocracy. It's very easy to imagine conservatives (especially wealthy conservatives) as Scrooge McDuck kind of figures who really just want whatever brings in the most money. But the truth is that most of them are deeply, deeply invested in the belief that capitalism is a meritocracy, and that their own success is the result of hard work and others' failure is the result of personal failings. They are so invested in this idea that they will go to amazing lengths to reinterpret any piece of information that challenges it. Succession does a really, really good job of depicting that conviction, and depicting it so well that the audience will be occasionally sucked into it, before slapping you in the face with the utter pathetic incompetency of these people who are essentially running America.
I think that's one of the things that really sets it above a lot of other 'eat the rich' type movies that write their wealthy characters with more of a Scrooge McDuck mindset. Personally, I think any good critique is written so that the critiqued party can see themselves in the story. They may not accept the critique, but if it's good and it's accurate there will be a character they recognize as themselves. No conservative is going to see themselves in Miles Bron, a man who is clearly out of his depth and incompetent and stealing other people's ideas, or the rich people from Squid Game, who insist on 'levelling the playing field' through random chance. But they DO see themselves in characters like Tom Wamsbgans and Kendall Roy (hence why an army of reddit bros turn out to defend their every move), and I think that's what gives Succession's critique a fighting chance of actually landing with the people who need to hear it
#fun fact most conservatives think squid game is a critique of communism#which yeah is at least in part a massive failure of media literacy#but I think the fact that the wealthy are so caricatured and unrealistic - and the games stop being at all meritorious so quickly - really#don't help#if you aren't at least needling conservatives then all you're doing is making a point to an audience that already gets it#also this is why good critiques are so widely misunderstood#for instance. 1984#they're nuanced and they have to be!!#if you depict the wealthy as cartoon villains then when people encounter real wealthy people who are not cartoon villains and instead#have complex views on the relationship between money and work that boil down to the idea that the world is a meritocracy but do it in a way#that sound reasonable and realistic to those who don't know any better#everyone goes well idk what glass onion is going on about. elon musk has all these great ideas about working hard and productivity and#rewarding people who do well he can't be all that bad#and completely miss the fact that he's operating under a total misapprehension of the world

I’m finding that the laziest moments of Doctor Who’s writing are the ‘retroactive twists’ - when the show runner reveals something happened way back over there, in the past, before they were even running the show. And we swear it happened, way over there, far back, and you didn’t see it because of reasons but it’s definitely been happening! And it totally makes sense and I absolutely didn’t just pull it out my ass to justify my paper thin plotline! All this kind of writing does is make me miss self contained season length plots. We’ve had people complaining that Moffat was guilty of the “this thing is big and scary and it’s going to happen, oh god it’s showing up, we’re going to discover what it truly is….. next season!!!!!!” plotline (and yes. he was. twelve is my fav doctor but yeah Moffat loved a mysterious horse and a big stick) but now suddenly when RTD gets out his own mysterious horse and a big stick, it’s got to be genius! everything is eventually going to make sense! and we’re absolutely not being had by a man who used to be able to write this show and is now a hack!
#FUCK OFF RUSSELL#write a good show or go home christ alive#it’s just nostalgia glasses. we could get an episode where all 10 does is sit in a daybed and list the symptoms of shingles#and a lot of people on this website would be falling over themselves to try say that yeah it’s not good! it’s not well written! but it’s fun#and obviously that’s all doctor who needs to be. fun! not good or interesting or well written or good scifi but fun. just mediocre mush fun.#im sorry that you love dave 10nant so much (name censor bc tbf this ain’t his fault he’s just here)#that you cannot handle admitting that RTD is bad at his job now or that bringing 10 back as 14 was a shit idea#and that plotline was boring and kinda dumb#but it’s true. it’s gone downhill. RTD does not know what this show is anymore#and I frankly think he’s gone from a fanboy being able to write his dw dreams and make them episodes#from a man who views this show as his little pet project that sprung him into success#the best episodes are written by people who love this show. adore it. think of it as something big and grand#and are so thrilled that they get to add part of themselves to it with their stories and words#it’s why he used to be good. and now he doesn’t really care anymore and it shows.#it’s why my favourite doctor is my favourite doctor (and probably why people adore 9 + 10)#because you can feel the love exuding from every performance. it’s a childhood dream. there’s not time to waste a second of it.#sorry but this season was bad and the overarching story was bad#and the Christmas special is going to be bad. because it hinges on the idea we’re going to ‘find out more next time!’#shut up and tell me now. or at least in the season. ‘ooh ruby’s snow power will be explained next season’ NO! EXPLAIN IT NOW#doctor who#dw#dw negativity#rtd2 era#rtd2#rtd

#i'm gonna get heat for this#but hunter was a mid player at best and the main reason people are upset he went out is because he's attractive#he was literally safe the entire game until his boot episode#AND HE STILL COULD HAVE BEEN SAFE IF HE'D PLAYED HIS IDOL#but he misplayed that round SO badly#because the first time he actually was in potential danger he scrambled and burned out hard#and yes he was good at challenges but so far his only real competition in them has been charlie#who still at least up until this point hasn't been viewed as a challenge threat and has actually had to manuever to survive multiple rounds#and i really liked hunter as a person!#he did have a surprising and cute story!#and two of his allies didn't eat themselves immediately come merge maybe he would have done better#but he still mishandled that round so poorly socially and strategically#survivor 46#survivor

nightbringer lesson 14 FUCKED ME UP in several ways but primarily I've spent the last 48 hours making myself sad over the solomon backstory we got. specifically I have, for no reason, latched onto that one chapter in the Kids event where baby solomon cried because he felt so guilty over being responsible for that spell. and that just feels a touch more depressing in context
#nightbringer spoilers#obey me on side#went back and unlocked the event again because i could not get this out of my brain i know it's probably not that deep#but it is that deep TO ME. okay#baby solomon has been on my brain since thirteen told that story so that's probably why it's sticking in my brain so hard but whatever#in case anyone was wondering the other things to make me sad are:#he has such a deeply excessive amount of lights in his room in purgatory hall there are SEVERAL chandeliers and lamps#there's a good handful in his room in cocytus hall too (his horror dg showed it) if a more normal amount#but that with the 'dim and gloomy' detail. ☹️#i've also always thought that solomon's loneliness wasn't all about the immortal angst but like.#having it confirmed that he's had reason to be lonely since he was a child- before he was old enough to know he was using magic-#totally crushed me girl why can't I be wrong#had emotions about lesson 14 in general but solomon backstory steals the show every time for me so i haven't gotten around to the rest#i'm enjoying the nightbringer story so much (not talking about the game design. that's a different thing entirely) but man#the pacing is WILD it feels like every lesson could be a whole lesson block at the least. it's giving me a lot of room to speculate#which I always love! but i do wish they would slow down a little and expand on some of these concepts they're bringing up#because the basic idea of the game alone is REALLY INTRIGUING and it'd be a shame if they raced back to the present imo#what was i even talking about. sorry my brain fast forwards as soon as i get into the tags there is not one sequitur to be seen#so curious about solomon's friend now too. like my guess is it's going to be lilith (and hopefully not in a popular fan theory kind of way)#because it's more than a little suspicious that they expanded on lilith's views on humans the way they did#in a way that SO PERFECTLY lines up with the expansion on solomon's views on humans#WHICH I HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT YET BY THE WAY BUT LIKE. HE IS SO RIGHT AND REAL FOR THAT#it's beyond stressful to me that I think solomon is completely justified in his views and being completely reasonable about it#but that it would also mean war between the worlds presumably while the brothers are still recovering from THEIRS#you cannot give me that choice man. not even sure that the human world would be ABLE to win that fight if we're being real#solomon's 72 pacts are a lot yes but he's still only one guy who is NOT on good terms with the sorcerer's society#and mc is powerful but so so inexperienced. and that's IF they choose to side with the human world which#really i don't think the canon mc is likely to do. but anyway i guess solomon's friend could also be adam maybe?#that could be wishful thinking because i like adam though. even if his hair SUUUCKS#deeply offended by everyone thinking solomon got the fucked up hair when all signs point to adam be NICE TO HIM he's ugly already

tonight we watched episodes 5 and 6: she has changed her tune on silver, instead repeatedly saying "he is such a character" from various angles whenever he is on screen. loves how fake he behaves and the fact that there's nothing behind it but the ability to be really good at being fake. INCREDIBLY busted up over billy but also said 'you wouldn't talk about how much you love these episodes if he had actually died' . prescient of her. for the first time i noticed a part of the bryson/guthrie betrayal that i never had before, which makes mr scott's presence in the hold make more sense. ella very stymied and upset over scott's tangled web of loyalties, and all i could tell her was that he has more interests on the islands than eleanor and that all would become clear in time. watching this time i thought about his cold-blooded arithmetic in refusing so many times to help emi and the other captives, weighing the lessened chance of his family's discovery against his potentially lifelong enslavement. and then helping her anyway because she reminds him, probably, too much of his daughter.
#^ all of which i could NOT talk about bc ella hasn't met his family yet and i can't spoil that#so i'm talking about it here#black sails#incredibly upsetting episodes to watch that i would not recommend if you do not want to spend time with the atlantic slave trade#even in an episode where they get - if not back home - then at the very least less endangered . but good episodes in the writing sense#just...too much at times even on a third or fifth viewing#like. on recommendations i often tell people to read the synopsis first. then decide#when he says we wouldn't ALL find a place on nassau. pirates trade slaves too (even though he's always spiriting them away first)#and she says you can't make that choice unilaterally for all of us. not when we want to fight so badly.#and he says oh this has nothing to do with you#and it does and it doesn't. it has everything to do with her in that they have a common background and trauma#it has nothing to do with her in that he's already chosen who his survivors will be . and he can't risk their safety on someone new#post-baru reading i am finding new angles on him than ever before. incredible man.

Shadows of Fear: Did You Lock Up? (1.1, Thames, 1970)
"And they didn't make much mess?"
"No, not really. They forced that door. Smashed the cabinet, slashed a sofa. And kicked a hole in the bedroom door."
"Ah. Big mistake."
"What is?"
"Never lock inside doors. Anything you can to keep them out - but when they're in, let 'em get on with it."
"I'll remember."
#shadows of fear#single play#roger marshall#1970#classic tv#thames#kim mills#michael craig#gwen watford#ray smith#mark mcmanus#malcolm kaye#charles leno#having come to something of a premature pause in my New Scotland Yard watch (the first ep of series 3 isn't on the YT playlist I've been#using and is proving quite tricky to get ahold of) i thought I'd revisit this brief lived anthology series for the creepy season. i first#watched this about 10 years ago and my memories of it are scant to say the least‚ so it seemed like good viewing for the season#the production history of SoF is lost in the mists of time (unless someone out there wishes to enlighten me?); this first episode was shown#in June of 1970‚ but the rest didn't follow until January of the following year; probably this acted as a sort of pilot to gauge viewer#reactions to another vaguely horrorish anthology series (the previous decade had been ripe with them‚ tho we rarely see their like today)#and then there's the odd case of the final ep‚ shown almost 2 years after the series ended and running to half the length (and generally#feeling like an entirely different format) but I'll come to that when (and if) i get to the episode itself. this debut ep is... well it's#fine. i was excited to see Marshall's name in the opening credits‚ one of the most dependable of old tv writers and I'd quite forgotten he#contributed to this show. but the issue here is simply one of length. the plot is solid‚ a suitably grotty little tale of a family man's#mounting obsession with the burglars who broke into his home. it would make a good ep of Tales of Unease (shortly to begin on Thames'#sister broadcaster LWT) or a few years later as an episode of Tales of the Unexpected; both being 25 minute shows. but this clocks in at#close to 50 mins and there isn't really enough to it to sustain that longer running time‚ leaving it feeling a little stretched thin and#flimsy. a shame‚ because Craig and Watford are putting in excellent performances as the middle class couple whose reactions to the burglary#slowly shift as time passes (he goes from prosaic acceptance to fixated malice‚ she from shocked indignation to making peace with it all)#no big surprises in where the play is headed or how it plays out‚ but that's often the case with these things; it's often just as much#about the horrible foreknowledge of what must come than some shocking twist‚ and this plays it about right. it's just too long is all.
