Reverse Therapy AU:
I usually try to follow canon (or close to it) when I write fanfics. And especially when I write about space marines. However, I've been thinking about creating my own AU. I've previously asked @kit-williams to write about space marines whose sexual desire has returned. Now I've decided to write a more detailed backstory before writing fanfics about it.
On Istvaan V Horus Lupercal issued a series of orders that were supposed to increase the traitors' chances of victory. Some innovations in the craft of war and hierarchy. However, few know that all Space Marines (regardless of the wishes of the Primarchs) also underwent therapy that restored their sexual desire.
The Warmaster did this for a number of reasons. First, he felt hatred and disappointment at the fact that the Emperor planned to destroy their species eventually. This explains why the Space Marines lost the desire to reproduce. Their presence is a necessity, not a natural process. At least it was until that day.
Second, Horus was partly influenced by Slaanesh (each of the four gods contributed to his goals and powers) and the desire to create a new species. In a way, a desire to become a real father/parent, as mortals would say.
Only heretics know about Reverse Therapy. The Imperium has harsh propaganda on many aspects concerning Chaos. It is not surprising that people who know about it prefer to remain silent. After all, if the fate of becoming a slave fighter (aka cannon fodder) or a slave for dirty work (and sometimes for torture) frightens the inhabitants of the Imperium. Then the possibility of becoming a warm body is not so scary.
Relationships depend on the specific marine. But if we talk in general, then:
Emperor's Children: A legion of hedonists and debauchees, oddly enough, may be the strangest place for such a slave. Some will simply torture, others will engage in ordinary intimate things. But do not forget that each marine seeks his own pleasure. For example, there were men who spoiled their lovers, giving them whatever they wanted, forgetting about bed. In fact, they treated them like pets (with sexual connotations). Art lovers were noticed trying to sculpt, draw a poor slave. And it does not matter in what state (she is always beautiful!). If this is a beloved wife, then later they made love to her after completing the work. If an ordinary slave, then most often she was walled up alive in wax. Simply put, everything depends on the search for pleasure of the marine you come across.
Night Lords: falling into the hands of a space marine from this legion is akin to playing roulette. Most likely, it will be a sadist who likes to mock his victims not only with ordinary torture. This means that the slaves will not live long. Some keep one slave partly out of sympathy or because it is convenient, continuing to torture. Although there are also quite often “heroes” who simply adore rescuing slave girls (and it does not matter that such knights recently flayed children) and fuck them right next to the corpse of the villain, promising to take care, protect and love forever. Just let them be seen as saviors.
Iron Warriors: Despite the fact that the Space Marines from this legion despise mortals and advocate for efficiency, there is not always only iron inside. Many also crave love, like their primarch, desperately hiding this feeling. Some representatives of this legion can be quite rough in bed. Others, delighted with new sensations, first only hug and kiss. But almost always it all turns into possessive behavior and favorite slaves quickly find themselves under the protection of the master in an iron cage. And of course the poor things will be marked. Either it's a collar, or they will be marked. And yes, the unlucky slaves who didn't find their marine probably would be sent to a brothel (if this place called like this in the Eye of Terror) or became daemonculaba.
Black Legion: breeding kink is hereditary. Most former Sons of Horus easily accepted the reverse therapy. And although some were not thrilled to experience... feelings at the sight of mortals, like the same Abaddon, over time they even liked it. The Black Legion has a variety of Space Marines from other Legions, but some of them also adopted the Sons of Horus attitude to reverse therapy. It is best for a warm slave to end up in this Legion, as she will have a better chance of immediately finding a good patron who will protect her. But if her master would like to share... the weakest doesn't survive.
Word Bearers: perhaps the most unusual Legion when it comes to reverse therapy. Some may use slaves for rituals. If they experience possessive feelings, they will most likely hide them from the rest of the Legion. And then it depends on the Space Marine. It can be a joint study of the Chaos Gods or worship of a beloved. Some Astartes are particularly fond of playing the role of serpent-tempters and corrupting their lovers. Or not. There was even a case of a Word Bearer convincing a girl that in fact he serves the God-Emperor, and the loyalists serve the Four Gods, in order to gain her attention and love.
Death Guard: If Grandfather Nurgle got Grandmother Isha, then why should his beloved grandchildren be alone? The question is not how the Space Marines will treat you (with all the love) but how do they want you? A decayed corpse full of sores and diseases for the glory of Grandfather? Or will you be young and beautiful like Isha, to create a delightful contrast. Either way, they are all terrible owners and treat their slaves very tenderly. At least in their understanding, since it is in this legion that the slaves most often cry (well, just like grandma, exactly, yeah!). Although some can be rude and even evil, they always ask for forgiveness later.
Alpha Legion: It is rather difficult to say how the Space Marines of the most secretive Legion cope with their newfound desire. According to some rumors, copies of the Primarchs like to exchange their slaves. Marines with an extremely expressive appearance most often choose one girl and become possessive to the point of madness (manipulation + Stockholm syndrome are guaranteed). But this is only general data.
Thousand Sons: The Legion joined the "general fun" too late and underwent therapy only before the siege of Terra. And yes, no one explained to them what it was. As a result, the therapy led to... interesting consequences. Some Thousand Sons got used to it as an insignificant feature that should be studied later. Others, little scientists, like to experiment with new sensations and relationships. Some Space Marines like stupid mortals, others adore lovers of knowledge. Some conduct experiments on their slaves, and others cherish them as pets.
World Eaters: Being a Khorn worshippers, these Space Marines forget about all aspects of life except the lust for murder. Most World Eaters do not have warm slaves. However, if they do, they are treated with great care (to the best of their ability). They do not leave their master's chambers because they know that if they leave, their skull will be crushed. Relationships/courtship(?) are always brutal with a touch of oppressive tenderness. World Eaters have a hard time being affectionate, but once they have warm slaves, they try to keep them with all their might.
Sometimes loyalist Space Marines take the path of Chaos. Such traitors also undergo reverse therapy. However, their “first experience” depends on the environment of their new brothers. Sometimes a Space Marine may not be explained the reason for his new feelings and why he suddenly wants to look at mortal women or men.
Such newcomers are the most dangerous. Most often, they kill a slave, eat or break from an excess of feelings. Newcomers who have been explained their desire should also not be trusted. Because in their desire to try the previously forbidden fruit, they may not hold back their strength. All “newcomers” in reverse therapy are usually given the most uninteresting slaves. Rarely does anyone survive. And if a loyalist traitor likes a girl to the point of madness, this surprises, scares a little, and sometimes disgusts the Chaosites (love at first sight? ugh).
The attitude of loyalist traitors to warm slaves depends on many reasons. What legion they came from, what gods they worship, what gang they are in. But most often, the most obsessed and eager for love are all the heirs of the Blood Angels and the Raven Guard. The Iron Hands experience the least sexual desire.
To summarize, “Reverse Therapy” AU where all chaosites have sexual desire in one way or another. However, since they are firstly space marines, and secondly heretics, mortal slaves are afraid to attract their attention. These are always dark feelings, too overexcited and sometimes uncontrollable. The worst is for those who spend only one night with traitors. Others become lovers, consider pets. Who are loved and cherished, but this care is suffocating and gloomy.
P.S. This AU was made partly for me personally, as I always write the attraction of space marines as an exception to the rule or if he is influenced by Slaanesh/Dark Gods. If I create rules and fanon for myself, then I can write more of my darkest ideas. And yes. It will be mostly OC space marines.

do you ever think about how canonically in the batman v superman movie/universe, dick grayson is the dead robin and bruce never picked up another kid which eventually led to him killing superman?
YES?! YES! YESS!!!!
If Dick were to die, Bruce would completely break. He wouldn't just stop at killing villains - hell no - he would start killing heroes too.
All that's going through his head is that no one deserves to exist if Dick is gone.
And knowing me, I will always gladly provide the evidence.
In the comics when Dick got shot, Bruce's world imploded.
He felt such a strong rage, he kinda lost it. He flew to another country, defeated assassins, and trucked through the freezing blizzard in Russia to get to KG Beast.
Batman (2016) Issue #56
The utter, undiluted rage on his face.
Batman (2016) Issue #56
He lost communication with Alfred. He's completely on his own but nothing will stop him in his crusade to avenge Dick.
He finds the assassin and they have a massive fight. KG Beast is actually one of the highest paid killers in the world. Him, Lady Shiva, Deathstroke, Deadshot, and someone else are the top 5 of the villain world and Batman almost loses until-
Batman (2016) Issue #57
He shoots a grapple gun into KG Beast's face! He breaks him. He leaves him paralyzed.
His horror at what the Joker has done to Barbara is gone in the face of his hatred for what happened to Dick.
Batman (2016) Issue #57
Batman willingly and knowingly paralyzed someone despite knowing the cost. That's how much he hated him. But you think it stops here? This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Batman (2016) Issue #57
And this is where it all goes to hell.
Batman, the vigilante who beat his own son for killing criminals, leaves this criminal for the dead.
The Gotham commissioners talk about it
Batman (2016) Issue #60
Forget Batman. JTTF stands for Joint Terrorism Task Force. They actually considered a hit on Nightwing an act of terrorism.
That's how much the world loves Nightwing.
The moment KG Beast shot Nightwing, he became the Nation's Public Enemy Number One.
Commissioner Grogan hates KG Beast so much for what he did, he can't even bring himself to say the man's name, too revolted by his existence. Gotham hates the guy more than they hate the Joker.
Batman (2016) Issue #60
Commissioner Gordon offers some hope that maybe Batman knew but Commissioner Grogan - he just says maybe. I don't know, it's possible but - to which Gordon just stays silent. They both know what happened and what Batman did but confirming it out loud? Batman's not supposed to kill.
So Batman left KG Beast to die but Bane? The one who ordered the hit? He-
Batman (2016) Issue #59
And when Gordon tries to stop him-
Batman (2016) Issue #59
He. Punches. Gordon.
He hurts his friend and ally. The man who helped him the night his parents were murdered. He punched for his pain over Dick.
This is where it all connects to the Superman vs Batman movie. If Dick were to die, Bruce would kill his own allies in the end. He would raze the world to the ground.
In the comics, Dick's death is the turning point for Batman (2016). After this he enters a series of nightmares where his brain turns a nightmare of Selina dying to be exactly reminiscent of what happened to Dick, and even though Dick lived, Bruce can't let that go. Then the fight with Bane who targeted Dick solely because of his importance to Dick, and then the Joker War where the Joker tried to use Dick because of his importance to Bruce, and the Gotham War where Dick thrashing him was Bruce's breaking point from his toxic self and finally self-realization.
Damian once said Dick leaving to become Nightwing caused Bruce to lose his moral compass, and that's even more true now. He's breaking enemies and allies left and right just because Dick almost died.
Imagine what would happen if Dick really did.

Naturally I have a lot of thoughts about Azula's role in the live action adaptation. I'd say about 95% of them are positive thoughts.
First of all, I love that she is this baby-faced, squishy-cheeked kid (I know her actress is a little older than the character but that's okay.) At Elizabeth Yu's age, I also easily passed for 14-15, she just has a young-looking face and clearly hasn't lost all her baby fat. And that is perfect, actually. I've criticized the sharpness and angularity of the animated Azula many times over, she has always looked far too old for her canonical age. I've said it before and I'll say it again- it's a problem that so many people watched the original cartoon and thought Azula was older than Zuko. I can't even blame them for it, she's drawn to look 20 or older. So it is wonderful to see a version of Azula who looks closer to her canonical age. I think it really drives home the point.
That said, this Azula is definitely different than her animated counterpart in other ways. The animated Azula was (almost) always perfectly in control. She could become angry and snap at people- but it was fairly rare, Azula always seemed the image of perfect calm, control, and precision. She was deadly precisely because she was so cool and collected and did not get easily rankled. This was also part of what made her breakdown so shocking.
The thing is, the breakdown is not especially foreshadowed prior to season three. There are a few moments that show the chinks in Azula's armor, but most of them don't come until "The Beach," and then after Mai and Ty Lee's betrayal. I've always believed that betrayal was the real inciting incident for her eventual psychotic break- I've argued before that it sent Azula into what's called a prodromal state, which is like a sort of "pre-psychosis."
More on the animated version's mental state here
Point being, there's really only one instance in season two that suggests any flaws to Azula's cool exterior, and it's one of her very first scenes. You know the one: "almost isn't good enough." It makes for a very subtle build-up to the breakdown and her eventual fall. But it comes at the cost of depicting her predominantly as a capital-V Villain prior to it. You're not really supposed to sympathize with Azula until "The Beach," arguably not until "Into the Inferno." For most of the animated show's run, you're supposed to find her scary and threatening.
And this is done effectively- almost too effectively. She's an obvious foil to Zuko, and serves as such a good primary antagonist that they had to neutralize her in the finale by giving her the breakdown. It's like they knew there was no way a healthy Azula was going to be beatable during Sozin's Comet. She appeared to be an effortlessly talented fire bender, a brilliant strategist, and a more dangerous opponent than even Ozai.
Live action Azula does not have this same feeling to her. There is still something "scary" about her- we see her watching people being burned alive with little to no reaction, and her face is quite blank at Zuko's Agni Kai. She's still cunning and still willing to manipulate things to her advantage- we see this in how she plays Zhao. So if this version gets a season two I have no doubt that this Azula will still serve as a dangerous antagonist to the Gaang and I don't doubt this is still an Azula capable of bringing down Ba Sing Se.
But she's not quite the calm, collected character she first seemed in the animated version. This Azula is a little less hinged. She has more moments of snapping and losing some of that perfect control. She's more frustrated and feels more at the mercy of her father. She reads far more like the Azula we saw in "The Phoenix King," the one who talked back and protested that her father couldn't treat her like Zuko. That Azula, however, was about one bad night's sleep away from a psychotic break. This Azula, presumably, isn't there yet.
I can agree that something of her original character gets lost when you essentially start foreshadowing the breakdown from the jump. It's not gonna be a surprise to any new audiences. She's not gonna be quite the same. But it does humanize her much sooner than the original show did, and it asks the audience to consider her circumstances from the jump- is this a sympathetic character or not? I obviously think she is in the original, and I do think in the end she was meant to be. But it's much more of a debate. The live action show unequivocally says "yes" and does not make it a debate at all.
I'd be tempted to say it's not trusting the audience to read between the lines, but given all the Azula discourse...they might be right to take this more direct approach.
Anyways. Live action Azula also feels more like a real teenager. She's petty, she's irritable, she's desperate to remain in her father's favor and beat her brother in the artificial competition her father has set up between them and will go to any lengths to do so- lengths she probably wouldn't have in the cartoon. She has a strong drive to prove herself and to protect the image she constructs about herself as the "perfect daughter." But that image also feels far more fragile than it did in the animated version.
This Azula doesn't say that "almost [perfect] isn't good enough." She says that "it [perfect] isn't good enough." It's a subtle but meaningful difference.
(Side note- I think the reason this Azula is fine shooting lightning in the direction of her father, seemingly in defiance of his orders, is a direct result of the change to the Agni Kai- she watched as Ozai berated and burned Zuko for not giving him his all, versus in the original where Zuko's sin was in not fighting back period. So here she's showing Ozai her "all", she's giving him everything she has to prove she's capable of doing more than Zuko running drills and smoking out resistance rings.)
I like this change. I like this more desperate, more grounded take on Azula. She feels like a real girl in a horrendous home environment. This Azula was raised in a family where it's expected you be cool with setting people on fire in the throne room and where there's a tangible symbol of Daddy's love sitting beneath him at all times. This Azula was forged in the fires of competition and manipulation that's more subtle than the animated Ozai ever seemed capable of. (More on Ozai later, but he's a much more subtle character than his animated counterpart despite still being...pretty blatantly Evil). So I think it makes sense that she's not quite as calm and controlled and perfect as the animated version.
I don't know yet which version I'll prefer when all is said and done- she was ultimately a minor role in this season. Animated Azula is iconic and always will be, but there's a lot I've always been critical of about how she was depicted in the original show. I think a lot of us that love and empathize with Azula do so despite the way she was written, not because of it. This version might change things a little.
But it also might make it seem infinitely more cruel if she isn't given some kind of redemptive ending (or at least one that implies some hope for her.) The bleak ending of the original show might feel really bad for this more sympathetic version of Azula. So if they stick with that...I dunno. It could hit or miss.
For now, I like what I'm seeing. And Elizabeth Yu understood the assignment.
#natla spoilers#natla#azula#hopefully mai and ty lee get more development in season two#they were kinda just...there in season one#also I strongly suspect this adaptation will cut azula's recruitment of them in season two and just have them with her from the jump

So basically there was no plausible way Azula, or any other character, could have been not straight because heteronormativity?
It wasn't because of heteronormativity, it was fulll on HOMOPHOBIA. Cultural homophobia and network homophobia, that were a result of literal decades of full on censorship and legally enforced homophobia on TV and films.
Until 2003, just two years before Avatar, it was totally okay for every state to have laws that were openly anti-gay, and some of them took full advantage of that. We're not talking just "No getting married or adopting kids" here, we're talking "You could get fired because of it. You could go to prison for kissing your partner in public."
Obscenity laws are still a thing today in some states. What are obscenity laws you ask? Basically a legal loophole that allows authorities to go "This thing you did is not illegal, but it offends me personally, so I can treat you like a criminal anyway." When asked to describe what even is obscenity, because that's a REALLY vague concept, one of said authories even said "I know it when I see it" and that was it. That was all you needed then, and if the "criminal" doesn't know their way around legal technicalities, it's all you need now. One dude getting offended at a song, movie or, you guessed, cartoon aimed at children, could make the thing ILLEGAL where he lives.
Nickelodeon would not allow non-straight characters in 2005. There were writters that had been trying to go there since the freaking 90s, and at best it'd result in banned episodes/episodes never got greenlit, and at worst in their shows getting cancelled - likely as a result of decades of the Hay's Code being legally enforced, and still having an effect on TV and film once it was no longer mandatory.
What did the Hay's Code forbid you ask? Oh, just a few things like showing married couples sleeping on the same bed, or interracial romances, or any mention of gay people - unless they were the villain AND the story not only highlighted that they were evil BECAUSE of their sexuality but also killed them in the end as punishment for their sins. That's where the "Bury your gays" trope came from.
Nickelodeon's primary goal is to make money. They were not going to spend money on a show that would result in angry parents, boycots, and episodes or the entire series becoming ILLEGAL in parts of the country.
Bryke themselves said they didn't even think to ASK PERMISSION to make Korrasami a thing until the very last second, almost a whole decade after the original show, because "Any kids network is gonna say no, and if you ask multiple times they might get mad and fire you" was the rule and everyone knew it. And even when they got permission to do it, it was just the two of them holding hands, in a season that was mostly only shown online because of the shows poor performance on actual TV. They didn't get explicit with the "THEY ARE A COUPLE" thing until it gave the show a HUGE popularity boost - aka when corporations like Nickelodeon FINALLY realized "Ooooohhhhhhh, gay stuff is PROFITABLE now, not something that will make us lose money."
It's great that gay characters being straight up illegal/something deeply controversial that could sink an entire series is not the reality anymore (for the most part, again, obscenity laws still exist), but lets not kid ourselves into thinking it was always common to see LGBT+ characters in children's shows.
It's totally valid to reimagine characters from Avatar as being gay or bisexal or whatever you want, but to claim it was CANON is pure delusion AND shows complete ignorance of the history of LGBT+ rights. I'm not even from the US and I know that shit, people, learn a bit of history for God's sake.
Oh, and lets not forget: now that Avatar CAN get away with gay characters, they made Kyoshi openly bisexual. Azula meanwhile continues to only show interest in boys and want only boys to think she's attractive, even after ships like Tyzula became so popular that the voice actresses themselves started to like it. It's almost like the writers ALWAYS INTENDED FOR HER TO BE STRAIGHT, STILL VIEW HER AS STRAIGHT, AND WILL LIKELY ALWAYS THINK OF HER AS STRAIGHT!
We can make headcanons and ship her with whoever we want, but let's not pretend the message isn't loud and clear here. It took years for her to finally be allowed to be written as anything other than just a walking ableist stereotype of a mentally ill person and be treated with any shred of humanity in the comics. Bryke literally said Azula fans are like a cult for feeling sorry for her. They are not interested in almost any reading of her as sympathetic. Not once have they ever so much as acknowledged the popular fanon idea of lesbian Azula.
They're not giving her a girlfriend, guys. It's already a minor miracle that Spirit Temple finally acknowledged she was also a victim of Ozai, and it still ends with her all alone and convincing herself that she is Totally Not Sad about it and will find herself a new group of friends that will Totally Not Leave Her even as she relapses into bad habits. Stop setting yourselves up for failure.

(Very quick Valentino mention, feel free to skip if it’s not ur thing. not a Val apologist, I have just always been a villain enjoyer. his character is very interesting. Also four arms) Val and Vel teaming up as lers is actually a crazy collab that would send Vox into an early grave or I guess you know, just make him very flustered. see how I add Vox to everything i am so sorry please don’t worry about it (i am so horrendously lee and ler for that man)
BUT YES! VELVETTE IS DEF TICKLISH! I HC SHE CAN KIND OF TURN IT OFF? LIKE PRETEND SHES NOT TICKLISH! SHES REALLY GOOD AT IT TOO, BUT IF YOU GET HER ARMPITS… SHES COOKED 😚 OR ALSO I FEEL LIKE HER KNEES ARE HELLA SENSITIVE TOO!! GOD I LOVE HER!!

Vaggie def prefers to be the ler but she loves watching Charlie’s face light up when she lets her tickle her (sorry this sounds so busted 😭 basically Vaggie is a softie for when Charlie tickles her bc Charlie gets really excited about it and has a lotta fun)
Charlie is absolutely shameless about loving tickles (kinda stealing from @kt-the-lee hi honey 😽) she is not embarrassed in the slightest and it’s just such a normal part of her identity it’s beautiful
She is also a very gentle ler. She is so excited about tickles all the time but absolutely does understand it’s not for everybody. (If I’m being 100% canon she prooobably had to learn this one the hard way and felt bad but whoever it was gave her a hug and of course forgave her bc they knew she meant well! They also probably tickled her too just to ease her anxiety <3)

"I can't decide Whether you should live or die Oh, you'll probably go to heaven Please don't hang your head and cry No wonder why My heart feels dead inside It's cold and hard and petrified Lock the doors and close the blinds We're going for a ride!"
OO is a receiver ([Blank] is a receiver) - Ura Commander-P
Lyrics and translation provided by the Vocaloid Lyrics Fandom Wiki
電波なんです 電波なんです 素晴らしいでしょう 素晴らしいのです 正しいですか 正しいですね 間違いですか 間違いですね 笑ってますか 泣いていますね
English Translation:
"It’s radio waves. It’s radio waves. Perhaps it’s wonderful. It’s wonderful. Is that correct? It’s correct. Is it wrong? It’s wrong. Am I laughing? I’m crying."
Remember that we're voting on how Iconic they are for ANIMATICS, not for the song itself. In order to make things fair, the tone and mood of the song should not affect how iconic it is (for example, a serious song should not be considered more iconic than a joke song just because it's serious)
Propaganda and animatic links of the songs under the cut:
I can't decide - Scissor Sisters
Propaganda:
Literally every playful villain ever. You want to use this for enemies to lovers? Do it! Someone who sees crime as a game? Go for it! The instrumental is so silly goofy and the lyrics are so flirtatiously sinister
Scissor Sisters be so funky and this song is so silly and playful (even when it's about deciding on whether or not you should kill someone)
Animatics with the song:
The Adventure Zone
FNAF
Karmaland V
31 Minutos
Danganronpa Kokichi Animatic
The Walten Files
OO is a receiver - Ura Commander-P
Propaganda:
Niche animatic song that is used to depict characters that have a lot of skeletons in their closets! Really neat song with cool lyrics!
It's a really good song to show a character's ongoing deteriorating mental state and how the characters around them are affected/what their feelings are in relation
Animatics with the song:
Hello Chralotte
OMORI
Detroit: Become Human Connor Animatic
Roblox Daybreak
Genshin Impact
Please be cautious and read the title, description and warning cards on the animatic videos if you decide to watch them. If you've got specific triggers I'd recommend even more caution when watching animatics of fandoms you don't know, since sometimes canon-typical themes don't get warnings.
Please keep in mind that I don't know all the media and fandoms of the animatics provided as examples and I don't have the time (nor the will) to research them all. Don't come into my notes or my ask box complaining about them being included, I will simply block you. If a ship animatic included is about an adult and a minor, do tell me and I'll take it out of the post
ALSO keep in mind that I don't know all the artists submitted; in fact, even if I do know them I do not know absolutely nothing about them as people (I do not have twitter nor tiktok) and I could not POSSIBLY have the time to research ALL of the artists' controversies and what came of them so PLEASE don't flood my inbox with the artists' entire crime list.

Frau Holle (2008)
If anyone of you:
a) doesn't mind low budget TV adaptations of well-known fairytales;
b) knows German or Polish, or knows none of them, but doesn't mind watching fairytales adaptations in languages unknown to them;
c) would like to watch an adaptation of Brothers Grimm Frau Holle, in which the mother and the second daughter get a happy ending and implied romantic endgames with positive characters;
then I recommend watching the 2008 ARD Frau Holle movie. It's not outstanding and the 2008 CGI in Frau Holle's world may hurt eyes a bit, but this movie is a pretty nice watch, if you like fairytales or at least if you're interested in watching different approaches to old stories. The creators understood the message of the original tale ("It's better to be hard-working and kind than lazy and rude") and decided to expand it ("If you're lazy and rude, it's never too late to change and become a better person, if you want to")
While both the mother and the sister are not "mere" villains here, they remain antagonistic characters (just like in the original story), so I included their implied endgames on my list of canon v/h ships with happy endings in live action movies.
The movie is available to watch on YT in German (in one part)
youtube
and with Polish voice-over in two parts

The amount of Aemond x oc I've found ( which is basically self-insert) is so funny... Like really what is so special about this character? A bullied incel ? We have seen thousands of these characters, Mommy's boy? Also we have seen thousands of these characters, Anime Villain? We have them in every anime...
Literally there is nothing deep or complex about his character, he is made of tired troops without any subversion or nuance . He has a hot actor playing him and this is what get so many people dickriding his character and claiming that he is and will always be a victim. People just need someone that will wet their pants so they will start excusing the actions of a character that embodies rotten ideologies that oppressed women for so long.
Oh ... Poor Mewmond..
We can have many “mommy’s boy”, “bullied incel”, “anime villain” characters, I think, and still have a good story, have them act out heir roles sufficiently, etc.
Problem with Aemond having his popularity is that people try to separate HotD from Fire and Blood/ASoIaF...
...and then argue for its legitimacy, how the original bones of the story doesn’t matter because apparently HotD’s story is “better”. And because it is “better”, it is then the only “real” story of the Dance.
But then some/many argue that it does stay faithful or faithful “enough” that we don’t need to argue for how it doesn’t make sense in many ways.
As if HotD’s world, rules, and entire social systems and structures (you know...those things that set up, define, and create the pressures/obstacles for characters and present stakes to us, ultimately characterizing the meaning and urgency of the entire story and its arcs).
The writers let Aemond off the ethical hook because they don’t really wan tto understand how a boy could be as selfishly entitled, classist, blood purist, and misogynist from the age of 10 and grow up a worse man and that be it. (Yes, even younger children can be misogynist, racist, etc. Ideologies don’t just mushroom at age 18.) And because they don’t believe or understand this, they think that Aemond is this helpless little thing who’s only trying to prove himself, instead of a loveless, violent maniac (his canon self).
The male writers especially don’t want to really think or believe or be confronted with such a phenomenon, because -- and I am musing after my read of xenonwitch’s reblog HERE -- they’d have to reflect and maybe admit to some behaviors they performed in their youth, or things they said or let happen.
With Aemond (and all the greens except Otto and Helaena), we’re encouraged to empathize more with him than we are with Baela, Rhaena, Jacaerys, etc. and the Kids Are Cruel trope centers him rather than, say, the actual vulnerable: the V boys (rumors of bastardry) and the girls of a man continuously exiled who just arrived seemingly for the first time in their lives. We spend more time with Aemond then we should, time/development spent usually on the protagonists....which is Rhaenyra, the blacks, and their children.
The whole story line of Aemond getting bullied (which is not at all canon) and then risking his life to claim Vhagar by daring to go out and claim her on his own at night (without the show focusing on how he’s doing this while the girls’ mother was just buried and how canon him would have hated them just for being on Rhaenyra-Daemon’s side). We’re encouraged to see him, then, claiming Vhagar as a very good thing when really it foreshadows the violence that will occur later one. All that power in a perosn who is supposed to be evil and abusive....that scenes actually should have been designed to make us feel dread, not hope, pride, etc. And like with Alicent, from being a boy with no dragon and losing his eye in an “unfair” moment after finally taking a dragon (after he was supposedly bullied and suffering character/“underdog”) we’re lead to feel more for him than the younger boy who would have had a grown woman cut out his eye. But since he becomes a sort of “momma’s boy” (again, not canon) he also becomes her protector, a role that Daemon fulfills for Rhaenyra. Which, with no scenes to show how their relationship developed due to jump cuts, uncomfortably compounds the feeling that Alicent and Aemond are too close.
Nice moniker for him, btw.

If you could write your “ideal” season 5 for LMK, what would it look like? Like, what season 5 would be like if you were to write it (assuming you would also be trying to implement your theories and stuff into the mix, Feral MK/EAMK are two of my favorite theories from you!)
That's a really hard question! Mainly because like...I don't know the end game—I don't know what the writers are ultimately building towards. For example, I have pretty much 0 clue what our mysterious figure's plan is. I don't know why Wukong killed Macaque (and while I'd like for the show to go that direction, I'm still not 100% confident SWK did actually kill Macaque). And when it comes down to it, I have no clue who/what MK actually is.
Like I've said before, my ideal s5 is the one they give me!
But, I would of course love EAMK to become canon! I think it really fits with what we see in the show, and it just makes sense for MK's arc. Now that MK's identity has really come to the forefront, he's going to actually have to learn about himself/think about himself and then come to terms with it. We really didn't focus on MK's Monkey Demon identity too much in the s4 special, meaning s5 is gonna have a huge focus on it just like s4 did, and because of the way this has been structured I'm assuming it's going to get worse before it gets better. Which then hopefully leaves some room for feral MK and the reveal of the plan of our new antagonist!
However, I'll try to "plot out" a s5:
The season opens as a parallel to 4x01, MK & Mei are fighting a "monster of the week" type villain—except uh oh, the Jade Emperor's seal isn't holding (& also MK is not in totally control of his powers). Reality is starting to fray a little bit!
Luckily Yellowtusk has some experience with containing the Jade Emperor's Power, but now Ne Zha is gonna have to touch base with Wukong and the rest of the Gang
They are gonna have to find a "suitable host" so to speak. The first recommendation is one of the 10 Kings of the Underworld—one of those guys has both the power and control to be the new Jade Emperor
It's underworld time
Except, wait! One of them is a traitor! They released Azure and tried to tip the world into chaos. There can't be a new Jade Emperor until this is resolved
Who-done-it murder plot ensues
Something goes awry
MK and gang? They have now been re-trapped into a different section of the scroll of memory (like the infinite scroll room) (Macaque, SWK, and Ne Zha remain in the real world)
oh_no_the_curse_is_back.png (The curse spreading and consuming the world is now a relevant threat again)
Tang magic is able to keep most of the group together—MK is separated.
There is some Tang and group side plot and relevant development (do not feel like coming up with what this would be)
MK is plopped right into the memory of his birth. This relates to how the pilgrims died, and it's clear SWK knew MK's identity the whole time (the gang reunite with MK in the middle of this sequence) (EAMK is confirmed canon. Nice. It's still somewhat unclear what exactly MK is, but he is connected to the underworld/curse/memory)
MK is not holding it together AT ALL, but "Monkey King had a good reason" or whatever
On the outside SWK and the others have been trying to figure shit out. Subodhi arrives to help and can send SWK into the scroll
He finds MK and gang
They are yeeted into the memory of why Wukong killed Macaque
MK snaps. L + ratio + your beloved Mentor killed his ex-best friend + you just learned you are chaos incarnate + you killed the past lives of everyone you hold dear
SWK V MK fight of my dreams ensues
Sadly reality is fragile and MK is not helping this
"Oh god if we don't stop MK everything will end"
There was relevant Mei development in the scroll, it's dragon time baby (Macaque tried and failed to calm MK down rip)
Samadhi Fire Part 3 plays out. Mei get's her dragon form, MK is successfully talked down by his best friend
There are still uh, issues
hey wait remember why we were here, the jade emperor's power-
Oh god the traitor revealed themself.
MK is basically not breathing because he is trying not to fracture reality any further
We as the audience are given a hint of the master plan
The curse is involved along with the Jade Emperor's Power maybe. Something something Chaos. Peng is. Somewhere. MK is revealed to be a key pawn in this game
Reality is so close to becoming undone. Someone has to become the jade emperor NOW or they will all die
Wukong sacrifices himself TM
Jade Emperor Wukong is real, if only for a moment
He plans to use his body to restitch reality back together like Azure did
Everyone is not gonna let that happen (they r stronger together)
With their combined effort, they are able to collectively use the Jade Emperor's Power to fix the world (again)
This is when the traitor comes and swoops in, stealing the Jade Emperor's power somehow
Season ends on a probably pretty shitty note
#This is going to be so fucking wrong lol#like I wrote this for fun but I don't think any of it will be right#Did not even acknowledge the flower. IDK what is up with that#literally so may pieces to keep track of#this also is probably too much for one season#but that is okay#if literally a single bullet point on here is correct then that is a win#I am manifesting jade emperor wukong though I really am#lmk#lego monkie kid#asks#eamk theory#jade emperor wukong

thinking about tobirama today and how he is described in the databook as "self aware" so he must Know about his own biases but he just refuses to acknowledge that they're there lol.
the founders generation had a really rough transition from war to peace. the senju and uchiha clans have not known peace for thousands of years; war is their life. so they had a brief period where nobody knew what to do whatsoever and then war broke out again anyway, on a larger scale than had ever been seen before. so tobi never really got to slow down and look at the good of the village in individual terms, during real lasting peacetime.
therefore his rule was characterized by a kind of wartime harshness that you can see in the way he defends his decisions to put the village > everything else (including the uchiha clan). to tobi it's only logical that inhabitants of konoha cast aside their identity as members of clans, because that strong clan identity was the reason there WAS war for thousands of years before this. he argued in favor of the collective over the individual clan i think not out of a desire to subjugate the uchiha (but so be it if he did, he outright says), but because by putting the village above clans, survival rates will be higher and ideally war will not be as constant (but when it comes, oh boy it's bad, bc now you have nation v nation rather than clan v clan).
ofc in hindsight we can appreciate that these policies led to the extermination of the uchiha, which i DON'T think tobirama set out to do at all. he is very surprised when sasuke reveals that he's the last uchiha left. it's not just that the uchiha clan was exterminated, it's that they were exterminated to maintain the balance of power in an era where clans could no longer afford to exist because nations/villages have replaced them. assimilate or die, basically.
but i don't even think this is anyone's fault in particular (i mean it was specifically hiruzen's fault for not acting soon enough, and tobirama's fault - slightly less directly - by establishing the anbu/police force/other institutions of konoha). the shinobi world had just gotten completely out of hand and was too massive of an issue for any one person to try and fix, especially because of the economics of war that kishimoto just NEVER ADDRESSES.
also it's important to remember that the naruto world does not share our morals. naruto universe shinobi kill and die for a living and this is totally normal. it's their job but it's also their lifestyle, their identity. even hashirama, the one person whose morals come closest to resembling those of our world, can't completely detach himself from this concept. he NEVER tried to get rid of shinobi as a whole, he just didn't want kids fighting in wars. and he's the most radical person in the naruto universe!! he still 100% wanted kids to grow up to become shinobi eventually because that's just what you do!!
basically everything that happened in naruto canon is just What Happens when shinobi whose collective identity is tied to killing and being killed try to define and structure society.
and ultimately it was madara who looked at the shinobi of the world and said fuck the whole thing, this cannot be fixed. but he too is a shinobi, The Ultimate Shinobi if you will (in that fighting is paramount to who he is as a human being). but he also seeks to rid the world of shinobi. the more he fights the more he loses his humanity, but also the more he fights the more he knows who he is and is able to show the world who he is. he’s the PERFECT final villain for a series about identity and violence, and what it means to be a shinobi and to be a good person, and if those two things are reconcilable at all. madara’s infinite tsukuyomi maybe wasn’t ultimately about izuna (though izuna was the initial catalyst for it), it was about humanity. madara realized that he cannot be a protector and a shinobi at the same time. he wants to be a protector but fighting is the only thing he’s good at, so his only option was to take over the world.
ANYWAY i started this meta with tobirama's biases and got completely off track but i think it's funny how tobi plays favorites with his students (and again doesn't acknowledge that he's doing this) but it just occurred to me: what if hiruzen is his favorite student bc he reminds him of kawarama. i'm going to explode and die

I've been pretty creatively drained lately and it's made me v inactive here and I hate it :( so here's some AU ramblings
uuhhhhh if anyone wants to send an ask or something about one of them I'd love you forever, and it might help kickstart my creativity
Vehsz aus
Canon: the universe im normally talking about when I mention my ocs. Terrin (Grand Champion) is the Commander/Outlander. Though her alliance is militant due to her status as a Mandalorian, she does drive to bring relative peace to the galaxy, and she and her Alliance are respected.
Commander!Varrich: a personal favorite AU. Varrich is my trooper, and he becomes a fallen hero as Outlander. Hes the villain of the story, his Alliance is a dangerous military, and he's bound to meet his end being stabbed in the back.
Commander!Synnda: though not cruel, being Commander hardens Synnda. He no longer has his gentle edges, but he's a good leader who wants the galaxy to find peace. His Alliance is more scholarly and attempts to negotiate, resorting to violence only as a last resort in most situations. It's seen as soft until the moment Synnda no longer stays his hand.
Commander!Xaerez: He never wanted this. He never wanted the spotlight, the leadership. But he accepts it with a sigh and does his best to lead the galaxy into an era of peace. He's distrusted, and has to work a lot harder than the other Commanders in various V'ehsz AUs to earn his people's - and the galaxy's - respect and trust. His Alliance relies rather heavily on information and isn't afraid to resort to blackmail and assassination to end the war between factions.
Modern: An AU set in a modern, human world. It's essentially a coffee shop/slice-of-life AU. No war, assassinations, spies - just everyday people in various situations.
Fantasy: A medieval-fantasy setting. The V'ehsz Legacy is a series of fantastical creatures, sorcerers, etc. The kingdom is at war with an unknown force that's slowly draining the life from everything and everyone. Knight-Captain Terrin puts together a team to find and destroy the source of the decay.
Apocalypse: A zombie apocalypse with similar setting as Modern AU, all of them are human. They're just trying to survive a world that's out to kill them.
Rediscovery Era: While not technically an AU, it's set a few thousand years after Canon V'ehsz. The Alliance long ago fled into uncharted space, leaving behind only vague clues to their whereabouts. Spacers, pirates, adventurers - they've all tried and failed to find it. That is, until a group of scholars decide to take a leap and go on an adventure to follow the clues.
Role Reversal: What would happen if there was just a little change here, a little one there, to change the lives of the V'ehsz Legacy before the start of the class stories? In this world, they find themselves following far different paths from their canon selves.
Mermaid: I just. Really like drawing mermaids, so created this one during Mermay a few years ago. No story behind this one, it's just an excuse to draw some OCs as merfolk and give them eerie fisherman's tales type backgrounds.

it's @chounaifu's turn to jumpscare me... with positivity!
Rex’s Gardening Service here. Loamy Soil: Hi Vetra, what’s it like being the funniest person on this god forsaken website??? Okay but seriously, fuck, you are so FUNNY and you’re SO MUCH FUN to talk to on Discord. When you first followed me on Gold, I was like “no fucking way lol” because I could NOT believe that somebody was RPing such an obscure Creepypasta character! I thought he had been forgotten to the sands of time. I still cannot believe that such a silly joke like Banana Proton has become. . . . Canon lore. This is why I love RP, honestly. You help remind me that not everything has to be serious and rigid— that we’re here to have fun and laugh together. Thanks for making me laugh! Sun Light: Let me preface this with: it is SO hard to write muses with horror themes, especially when people are turned off by it. I appreciate your drabbles, and the layers of suspense that are attached to them. I ache for Gold whenever I read them. At the same time, you keep this happy air around him, despite the struggles and hardships he’s faced. It’s a lot of fun. He’s a lot of fun. This blog is a lot of fun. I’m really glad that you’re active here! Drizzle from the watering can: Talk about some of your favorite RP threads!
REX WHAT THE HELL THIS IS SO NICE...?
gonna answer the RP threads question under the cut because otherwise this post is gonna get long as hell. this isn't even a comprehensive list of everything.
literally anything with wolf and @koopaklaw (and @peachycrown), to the point where a certain Wolf quote still lives in our heads rent-free.
for that measure, literally anything with my main fox at the time, especially when he came to rescue my wolf (the mun knows who they are but i'm leaving them anonymous so the space furry fandom leaves us alone)
Also ANYTHING with Lucina and Henri's Chrom. Literally both of them being trans was such a big brain move on our parts, tbh, but I think a standout has to be Lucina trying to dance around the Morgans' existence with Chrom to prevent fucking up the timeline.
ALSO LUNEA. SHOUT OUT TO LUNEA. that thread was so good.
Ripley's Byleth and my Edelgard talking about church doctrine and how fucked up it is.
Bri's Ferdinand and my Edelgard post-killing Ludwig von Aegir.
There was a really good Edelgard one I did over Discord DMs. Unfortunately, it was with the antisemitic purple rat's Claude, so that one no longer counts.
Triandra fighting both @madeimpact's Pit AND @sternenteile in different threads because I had to change nOTHING about their lore to make things work. They're so versatile.
@gottgenug's jeralt and my shez, especially the one where jeralt finds out about arval. i love the dad.
Basically all of Reginn and Eitri's threads because Book V of had no right having such good worldbuilding. Also I hadn't written a villain in a while back then so Eitri was a lot of fun.
deep cut here, but my Rowdyruff Boys and @molinguish were. so so good.
Another deep cut, and maybe a weird choice considering the context, but during the ending of 2020 when The Great RPC Fuckening of November went down, a certain thread featuring Bunnie squaring off against the antisemitic purple rat and beating his ass was my happy place for an entire month. If you know, you know.
Gold and ALL of his fellow creepypastas shooting the shit has been so good. We need more creepypastas. It's 2023, embrace the cringe.
Of course, Gold and his little found family of @wariodemambo, @rosadolces, @queenshokora, and Papeeno @thetravelershub (feat. Peepaw @emptyzone).
And, an honorable mention since it wasn't a real thread, but:
YOU. ME. BANANA PROTON.

for the "send you a character" your beloved onion boy
Onion posting...... my favorite
First impression: Ok so Some Jay lore Deadass I thought I was gonna hate him I was so sure Ryouga was where I was gonna go if I had to pick a favorite and, with a lot of the bits I got before actually watching, Kaito just did not fit the characters I was drawn most towards at the time. I used to stick to more light-hearted, sunshine characters, like token dumbasses with hearts of gold with a few exceptions to which Ryouga was gonna be because I IRL am such an aggressive fan of sharks the animals, plus he was the ~bff~ trope character in my eyes and this was someone who lived breathed and died Takeru Homura and Katsyua Jounouchi And while I love Kaiba and Ryoken, it took some time to find love for them
Impression now: Uh. He's alright. Just ignore my social media, how I took Photon to 2 YCSs despite the very poor matchup conditions(AND WENT 2-2 FOR FOUR ROUNDS WITH IT IN PEAK KASH FORMAT!!! SIMPLY BE BUILT DIFFERENT), and the near 10k and growing character analysis oh and like majority of the fanfiction I've written for the last 1.5 yrs now plus this tweet:
sweats profusely To say he's impacted me quite a bit would be an understatement. Everytime something photon related happens in the tcg, I wake up to 10 different DMs and it's all this twink's fault
Favorite moment: omfg how does one pick a favorite when the character has become your entire life for a minute LOL Uhhhhhhhhh I will say I have the clip of him jumping into the cockpit saved on my phone for chuckles ajgkdlsj I love his duel against Ryouga, it's very showing of his character and his impact, also love how they banter His rematch duel with Yuma at the end of Part 1 is also really good, love to see him encounter his own uncertainty and let himself be inspired by Yuma I love that he stares at the footage of Mizael in the monitors in his lab like a freak after their first duel His duel with Shun in Arc V is always a rewatchable one
Idea for a story: Every story you could imagine!!!!! The one I'm currently most actively working on between upcoming ship week work is a semi-complicated post canon AU that has a past life subplot to it because lord I'm just gonna fill in the wasted potential subplots for Kaito myself at this rate ALLEGEDLY Have an OC I'm working on that ties back to him too, that's also lowkey in that lore also Stay tuned :)
Unpopular opinion: UH, the one I wanna say I'll wait for another ask that's currently in my inbox gjdsal So here is another from the analysis from another take I saw awhile ago:
I also think one of the long forgotten truths of Zexal is Yuma rarely sees anyone as a true villain. There are a few exceptions to this of course, Don Thousand and Mr. Heartland both come to mind, but Yuma manages to find compassion in just about everyone he faces and uses dueling as a way to bridge the gap between him and them, even ones who arguably don’t deserve it like Faker, Tron, and… well, beloved mothman Vector. If Kaito was ever supposed to look like a terrible person when he’s at the height of his crime spree, we would have seen that from Yuma’s perspective. Instead we see Yuma's fear, his intrigue, and ultimately, his motivation. Motivation to protect Astral from what’s to come, and then following the conclusion of the Kaito vs Zexal duel, motivation to help Kaito, and finally, the motivation to get to his level. Instead of the same treatment we get for other unforgivable types, we get to see Kaito for what he is beneath the snark, the beatdown strategies, and the unconditional love for his brother: he's lonely, he's incredibly desperate, and he's dangerously selfless for those who are the most important to him, so much so he initially struggled to find his next purpose.
I'm also on record for considering Kaito the strongest of all of the rivals lmao
Favorite relationship: Honestly all of them, family, ships, friends, I love how Kaito is written with others both in the shows(Zexal and Arc V both), the manga, and even Duel Links gives some of his lesser shown rivalries and connections more depth Kaito and Ryouga's rivalry is proooobably my favorite though? Especially including Duel Links moments, they've got so much in common but just will not connect unless it's to show the other up, but you know it's game over when they can find a strong reason to remain on the same page Also the card Photon Emperor exists, which is one, named very suspiciously, two, has a similar cape design to Nasch with the shoulder gems and the cape being attached by those pieces, and 3, very notably resurrects itself when it's sent to GY from hand, deck, or when it's detached as material from an XYZ At the same time, I LOVE Kaito and Mizael's entire story too, both as a rivalry and a relationship, god they're so good and it's truly so hard to put into words how much I love their dynamic, the parallels, how they match each other's crazy, they have my longest ship playlist gjkldadas For Arc V, I'm also a sucker for Kaito and Shun as well as Kaito and Edo Shun went back for him and wasn't going to quit until he convinced him,,, and Edo and Kaito have such strong chemistry for no reason, it's not unwelcome at all-- they just threw men at him for some reason and I'm all for it
Favorite headcanon:
I ALWAYS write him as both touch repulsed and touch starved because he's almost never shown without his jacket during canon except for a handful of flashbacks and exactly that one examination scene, and even in the flashbacks, all you get is his forearms from his one collared shirt
He'd rather die than sacrifice his aesthetic, an icon

this is gonna be extremely niche but i cant stop thinking about oscar delancey/davey jacobs as a ship (it's the "understanding each other bc they both would do anything for their lil brothers" trope for me) lmao hear me out:
i occasionally see those posts that frame the delancey brothers as the kind of villain characters that are villains bc they're looking out for each other (which i love btw cuz i love complicated contexts); working for wiesel bc their dad is shitty and that's why they were all for beating up the trolley workers etc etc
anyways, so that's the kind of oscar delancey im working with: he's in it bc he's angry at his dad and the world and he's looking out for his brother. btw im using the livesies versions of them! (height difference hehe)
also i've noticed that he's the less aggressive brother? morris is the one that usually gets in the newsies' faces and spouts derogatory language; oscar's the one who stands back more. just works for him in this context.
davey's a new newsie and he catches oscar's eye bc he's cute and is smart (and oscar is not v smart and educated). in newsies 2017 he actually kind of gives davey's back a once over after davey takes his papers lol so you can construe something from there too.
he gets embarrassed for being called out on not counting properly (he was distracted okay)
he's in this position where he knows it's not great to beat on other people but anything is better than getting beat on, and he's doing this so he and his brother can stay out of the house, but he doesnt actually love how morris gets aggressive like that--it's so much like their father.
(morris obviously has issues there too, they just manifest more in the direction of "well this is the lot that's been drawn for my life so why should i be anything else? my father was so shitty, im just gonna turn into him eventually anyways" sort of mentality :( which is a good starting point for one of those mike faist morris fics where he ends up becoming a newsie to support himself differently lol but this is livesies and this hypothetical fic is about oscar anyways)
oscar feels trapped where he is, and he isnt happy, and he's sure there's more to life than beating on other people--especially when they're just kids like him--but he doesnt see a way out that doesnt end in him and morris both getting the worse end of the stick, or separated or something. and he'd never forgive himself if he got separated from morris.
then comes in the cute boy with the tiny brother (and he thinks about how morris used to be smaller than him too), and the cute boy starts a strike to protest their working conditions and he kind of actually... really admires it? but doesnt want to admit it bc theyre on opposite sides and oscar doesnt want to risk the good parts of his life rn, even if they're kinda meagre emotionally--he and his brother have clean clothes and food on the table and their dad's down for the count for a while, ain't no way he's risking that.
so canon happens like it does, and the newsies win, and the delanceys find themselves once more backing up wiesel and helping count the newspapers to give to the newsies for the day and that's where their story really starts, because all the newsies obviously hate him and his brother and oscar hates most of them too but goddamn it he just cant look away from this davey guy
also might be interesting to play with the idea that the delanceys actually live close to where the jacobs live and oscar recognizes him because he always saw davey and les leave for school in the mornings as he was coming back from distributing papes to the newsies
i dont actually know how theyd start seeing eye-to-eye, esp since davey being willing to give oscar even a second of his day seems like a huge hurdle to jump over.
maybe davey's about to get beat up and oscar intervenes against his better judgement, and davey feels obligated to thank him somehow even if oscar doesn't want him to--even thinks it's a bad idea.
maybe after the newsboy strike, the delanceys' prospects get worse bc after the governer steps in, everyone that was after the newsies suddenly gets a bad rap and money starts to dry up, and davey spots oscar giving morris most of his lunch ("c'mon, mo, you're bigger 'an me anyways. ya need ta eat somethin'.") and suddenly davey finds himself empathizing, and very suddenly quite curious about what their deal is anyways. (oh look another opportunity to make morris a newsie)
maybe oscar actually cant read very well and the newsies, most of whom are actually literate enough to read headlines, get news of this and make fun of him every morning about it, and at first it feels vindicating, but then davey starts to feel bad about it.
probably the last straw is when morris actually makes fun of him too (idk maybe morris was able to go to school longer cuz oscar was actually a newsie himself over in queens or brooklyn or something, when he was much younger, when their dad was still mostly decent but their family was poorer)--anyways, morris "teases" in the way siblings do sometimes when they dont realize theyre poking at a tender spot, and that's about it for oscar, and idk if he has meltdown or just quietly implodes, but davey picks up on it and feels bad enough about it that he offers to teach oscar how to read.
which, wouldnt it be interesting if somehow oscar and spot had been friends growing up, maybe sold together as the youngest newsies in brooklyn, but spot never realizes oscar delancey is him cuz he only ever hears about the delancey brothers from race (and jack), and spot only ever knew oscar by his newsie nickname? and his selling buddy moved away a while ago, and he's always been a little concerned cuz in the months before he moved, more and more bruises appeared on his skin, and once spot tried to convince him to run away and stay at the lodging full-time with the rest of the boys, but the kid refused cuz he needed to stay for his kid brother who doesnt know any better... anyways, spot realizing theyre the same guy could be a (sprace) subplot lol.
and then obviously they get to know each other better and davey helps oscar feel not-so-trapped anymore and maybe the newsies end up reluctantly and begrudgingly adopting the delanceys (after a real apology or two or twenty to crutchie, of course, who always got the worst of it from them) and maybe morris comes to realize how much like his father he's become and doesnt want that for himself, and also sees just how misaligned his and oscars goals actually are and idk they all become better and oscar and davey have a relationship that's hard-won but wirth everything
anyways yeah, i do think they'd be an interesting ship lol. oscar/davey!

I know cereus is a no villain Rika au but I want villain cereus Rika so bad now like go girl get revenge on the men and the institutions that hurt you KILL THEM CLAIM BACK YOUR FREEDOM WITB THEIR BLOOD GRAAAAAAAAR
You are totally valid, anonymous. I understand why you would feel that way. Rika in the Cereus universe is different from the way we know her to be in Mystic Messenger's canon. She's been beaten by the world in every way imaginable, and yet, there's nothing she can do about it. She has no choice but to play the song and dance that's been given to her as a woman in that time period.
She has to bite her tongue and take it because that's what she was taught. Even as she's begun to learn that she doesn't have to take it over and over... she still has a role to play. That's what you learned in Chapter 4 today. She's technically free but... is she? She has no real autonomy in certain aspects of her life no matter where you draw a line in the sand. She ran from her parents, from her pastor, and she found V at the last second who offered her more kindness than any person ever offered her.
But, even V can't shield her from the reality they live in. She has no choice but to accept that she has to marry someone to save herself. Even if V is the best choice she's had, she doesn't have time to make any other choice but that. It's all she has. She knows it. V knows that. But, he offers what he can, and she takes what he has because that's about as good as it gets.
She has freedom... but not true freedom. She continues to make a lot of choices like that. Since, if you've read Cereus proper, you know the fate she has in the end. She sacrifices her life to be able to save the twins so they can have a chance at real freedom. Rika in this reality is, unfortunately, a victim of unfortunate circumstances. She's hurt over and over again by the world simply for being herself. But, at the very least, she had a say in how it ended.
Rika had no regrets when she stared down at the men who came to hurt Saeran and Saeyoung. She knew what they'd do to those boys, and she wouldn't let what happened to her, happen to them. If their father didn't kill them, they'd be used as political pawns to get what he wanted.
Married against their will, sold off to work for people who would use them until they died of exhaustion, or God knows what else. Things that could've happened to her if her parents won. She prevented the boys from living what she almost lived through... but it cost her every part of her mortal life to do so. For a short time, though, she was the happiest she'd ever been because of Jihyun and the saloon they put together... and for that, she's grateful.
But, I do see something poetic in your dream, Anon. You want her to become an outlaw and make the people who hurt her pay. You want her to make them suffer and bleed just like how she'd suffered. You want them to burn to the ground and let her watch it happen, tears flooding her eyes because she can't be hurt again. While I think that would be cathartic and wonderful in another timeline, I stand by the route I took here.
Rika's worst fear is becoming the devil. For once, I didn't want her to live in that fear to the point that it pushed her into the darkness she never wanted to live in. However, my dear, if you want a story where Rika is filled with wrath, revenge, and anger, you need to go read my other story where Rika is a demon... but there's more than meets the eye.
[Gardenia, et tu Polaris] is that exact story.
But, it won't hit like Performer Rika with a gun against your throat, I know... I'll keep that one in mind next time I want to commission an artist for cowboy universe fanart.
