yknow i largely agree with the sentiment of this post, but "your feelings are NOT valid" really really bothers me. like... is it not valid to be going through a hormonal change that Makes Your Emotions Like That? is it not a natural part of simply existing as a person who menstruates, for many?

the assertion that your feelings are not valid when you're on your period is not one i'm alien to, because i often tell myself that, when i'm on my period. and it makes me feel worse! name me ANY other context where it's acceptable to tell someone their feelings are not valid. i am sure you will not come up with one! because it's more harmful than helpful to suppress your feelings like that and it's shitty to insist someone do so.

so actually no, your feelings ARE valid when you're on your period. it's normal to feel more reactive than you usually would. that's why you let yourself feel that emotion but WAIT to act on it. don't suppress your feelings. teach yourself to work with them.

I think there are several experiences being conflated here. When I think about my own experiences, I'd say that sexual attraction, romantic attraction, horniness, and infatuation are all different things. To me, sexual attraction is like a process that always runs in the background, mostly outside my attention but always outside my control, and its function can basically be described as "smash or pass". It can be a reason for me to want to get close to someone but it's easy to ignore for the most part.

Infatuation is different. It's something I've only experienced once in my life (as an adult, anyway) and it's exactly that cognitive impairment, "what did you do to me" feeling that @strictlyquadrilateral describes. I could feel myself getting stupider the closer I was to this girl, who was objectively very sexually attractive, but the feeling of infatuation had nothing to do with horniness, and she was honestly kind of a bad person who made bad decisions, so I can't say I was romantically attracted to her either. And yet, when I met her on holiday, I stuck by her for weeks until I was finally fed up with her antics and left.

I am now in a very happy relationship with someone else and I felt very strong romantic attraction to my current partner within minutes of meeting her, but I've never felt like I wasn't in my right mind around her and I honestly don't bemoan the absence of that feeling at all. I'm sure it can feel nice for some people but I'm better off without it.

"Aro/Ace person gets given a love potion" story but instead of them being immune or whatever, it DOES work, and they realize IMMEDIATELY that they've been fed a love potion because this feeling is so wrong and foreign but everyone keeps laughing off the idea of it being a love potion because "they were probably just a late bloomer" or "no, you just finally found the right person!" and it's just a horror story about how no one believes them even though they know, they KNOW this isn't right and they can't stand it.

You know, we don't really hear Alastor use a lot of Cajun words. I'm not sure if him being Cajun is canon for you or not, but if it is, does he use it often around Vox and Drift (or anyone really)?

Also, does Vox get flustered when he does? (I like to imagine Al's tone shifts when he does use Cajun words and Vox just overloads when it's directed at him)

So, Al will really only ever drop the Transatlantic accent when he's very emotional and speaking in Louisiana French or Kouri-Vini. And even then his vocabulary is limited. He understands more than he can say, a consequence of being raised to believe he should adopted 'proper' more Standard American English tongue and lingo. In general, Alastor has Creole influences from his mother's side, and Cajun from his father's.

Also, everyone knows him for that famous radio voice. Whenever he shifts into French or Kouri-Vini with his accent, Vox swoons, hard. He actually knows Parisian French, had to learn it for the film industry, so he actually understands quite a bit of what Al says in Louisiana French. And it makes him swoon harder because Al has less reserves complementing Vox when he thinks he can't understand him. Vox would never tell him otherwise.

(Also, also, it does mean he's pretty well aware of what Alastor's neighbors say about him when they use French. Some are nice and some...well, are not so nice.)

Drift is going to have a mini-brain rewiring. He's never heard Alastor speak like he wasn't on air. And after hearing on that voice on the radio for most of forever, he was not prepared to hear the sudden tone shift and language swaps. He's still pretty convinced Al ate someone and somehow stole their voice when he did it XD.
