BRUCE'S INITIAL REACTION isn't even visible to the outside eye, his impassive expression another mask that laid under the iconic cowl that he wore. It could be partly blamed on the fact that he is indeed occupied: digging one of Huntress' arrows out of her own thigh, an unfortunate ricochet in a tussle with the Penguin's hired men.

It was so dark in the alley of Gotham that the other woman's blood blended seamlessly with the black of Bruce's gloves. He didn't pay any mind, though: his thoughts were too embedded in a previous scenario they had found themselves in like this, if only the roles reversed. Bruce laid immobile on the dirty ground while Huntress came to his aid, a particularly grueling and vulnerable time for the Bat himself.

Huntress was better than she knew--than all of them knew, most of all Bruce himself. He'd give himself that much slack.

Perhaps that was why her words, so often scathing and sarcastic in nature, twinged something unrecognizable within the vigilante. Remorse, maybe. Regret? A yearning for something that they didn't possess now? Curiosity, getting the best of him?

"Then why don't you?" He asks, gruffer than he means to be while he ties a strip of fabric from his cape around Helena's leg. It would stem the flow, but not the pain. Bruce looks up, meets her eyes, and for some godforsaken reason, immediately wants to eat his words, lessen the seriousness of his question.

"You know you'll thank me later," he adds on in referral to his makeshift first aid, amusement in his words pulling the slightest smirk onto his lips. There. That was it. Don't pull thorns if you don't want to bleed, Bruce.
