I apear to be the only one that is watching Dare to Love Me atm - or at least I get that impression when scrolling the tags. I am mainly here for Myungsoo, my Infinite bias. I will usualy pick up any drama that that man is in, just to check it out a least. But considering that I watched that cat drama that he did a few years ago, one could argue that I could indeed watch almost anything for that pretty face.

That doesn't mean however that I lose all sense and just blindly adore anything that my bias does. But then again I don't think I have had a problem being critical consumer of the things that I enjoy. Things don't get a ten star rating on mydramalist just because my bias was cute in a show. Nor does a drama suck and the female lead should go to hell because the writer of the story didn't let my bias get with the girl because uwu he is so cute and I would like to project myself onto the female lead etc.

I am too asexual... and grown up for that sort of nonsense.

Dare to Love Me has a far fetches premise (but not as far fetched as a man that can turn into a cat) and is generally operation in a realm of it's own when it comes to logic. Or at least do a degree. I don't doubt that there are very traditional families that still hold onto customs and such from another era in this modern world or they have a head of villages still present in modern day Korea (I was in Korea last October where I went on a guided tour from Busan to Gyeongju where we stopped at Yangdong Folk Village where I believe the tour guide told us that there was an old family there that still took care of the village and such) although, this is probably a way more exaggerated version of that.

That's not actually the part that I find slightly illogical. I find the modern bit, especially with the way the female lead seems to be operating in, to be the head-scratching bit and the one that I actually have to suspend my disbelief a bit. Because I don't think her job makes sense, I don't get that deal with the man she accused of two-timing her and all that bit. It actually just makes her so pitiful and in a way a little pathetic that I can't help but to sigh over her. And then she also keeps falling over and landing in the male leads arms and it's just done to death… and I am only two episodes in.

I wish there was another way to introduce her to us and to sort of make us feel for her or want to root for her because things just can't go her way. There are others ways to do that, dear kdrama writers. Because this is just tired.

Myungsoo's character, Yoon Bok, is made to be this fish out of water with him arriving in Seoul (for the second time in his life or something) and just sort of feeling a bit out of place because of the environment that he grew up in. Sort of sheltered by his village and the old ways of thinking. It's almost like he has time traveled, but also not quite. I wish there was a bit more of a struggle for him tbh, like we could see him feeling a bit uncomfortable in his new clothes and not really enjoying being in a loud environment in a club and such. I just feel like it would give his character a bit more depth.

There are times where him not adjusting or some confucius teachings bubble to the surface and it's mostly done for amusement or humor, which I totally get. But in between those moments, if it's not done super consciously within the script for the sake of humor or to underline something, there doesn't seem to be too much care put into incorporating that into the story. Or at least not always. It's like they just don't have the guts to go all the way with it.

I do find the story endearing once it get's going. But the first episode felt so tropy with her falling into his arms and the bullshit setup to the female leads storyline that it was a bit of a struggle. But I can still see myself tuning into it for a few more episodes at least just to see how the story goes and what they will do with it. It felt cute enough, it's a fluffy little romance. There is a decent amount of chemistry between the leads. I can't turn my brain of a bit more. It's fine.

Am I having a great day, running on roughly 2 hours of sleep and sheer force of will? Debatable. :P

I’ve been listening to Tyler’s song all day tho, that has definitely improved my mood significantly. I’ll never be over the beauty that is this Malex song. WE GOT A MALEX SONG, Y’ALL!!!! And Tyler’s voice... yeah, the absolute best thing ever. I’m at peace just listening to him. 🥰

WOULD YOU COME HOME is without a doubt the best thing of this episode, the best thing of the season tbh. With that being said, I wrote down some more things.

Putting this incoherent mess behind a cut tho (I’m LJ years old, it’s a cut, not a Read More :P), fingers cross Tumblr doesn’t botch the damn thing.

Hmmmm, I’ll admit that last night (I watched live at 3am, which probably was NOT the best idea, but then I’m an adult, what else am I supposed to do other than make TERRIBLE LIFE CHOICES...), I really hated it.

Nothing made sense, too many questions were left unanswered, Malex were robbed of saying “I love you” to each other first, they were also robbed of an opportunity to talk (dear god, when will they finally TALK, it’s literally all I want), Michael was made to leave IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LOVE LETTER ALEX WAS SINGING TO HIM IN PUBLIC (omfg, I’m still so fucking PISSED about that, I’m FUMING) by the writers just to keep the ~drama going, Malex were robbed of a first public kiss, in one moment at the bar it looks like Michael took the handkerchief off, but there’s no way of telling whether they simply forgot to put it on him, or if it was deliberate and he actually took it off and we were robbed of that very significant moment.

Also ngl, Jesse’s death? Underwhelming. I mean, I’m glad he’s finally gone, but his whole storyline this season was underwhelming and so was his death. Oh well, underwhelming is my rating of S2 overall, guess it makes sense for this super villain to go out with a meh instead of a bang.

Blah, I'm still not super happy about the finale, and I especially wanted Michael to hear the WHOLE song, mainly the final two lines

but since we can’t have nice things it’s not surprising that I’m not a huge fan. At least it wasn’t as devastating as 1x13, or as gross and triggering in 2x06, small mercies, I guess :P

Ngl, the Forlex kiss didn’t spark joy for me personally. I’m a mono shipper, and just like I hated seeing Michael kiss someone else, I hated seeing Alex do the same. But I understand why he did it. Michael left halfway through the song, and Alex was so relieved and proud of himself that he sang it, and Forrest was right there (wearing his Deep Sky ring 👀).

And hey, Alex asked and Forrest gave enthusiastic consent, I appreciate that very much!

I also really liked that Alex and Michael got to destroy the damn shed. I absolutely ADORE that Gregory was there when Alex sang,  alive and looking like the proudest big brother ever (like you don’t even know HOW MUCH I love him!!! ). Tanner’s such an amazing addition to the cast and I hope we’ll get to see him more often next season!

I’m glad that neither Alex or Michael were burdened with Jesse’s death, I hate that Gregory is carrying that burden now, but he seems to be better equipped for it, and I think he’ll be okay living with it.

Also a glimmer of hope for my baby Flint and a possible redemption arc? I like it (mainly bc I adore Kiowa, I just want him back).

The Echo breakup was long overdue, IDK, I haven’t cared that much about them as a couple for a long time, they’ve been lying to each other throughout most of the season, insofar it makes perfect sense that they go their separate ways now.

Rrrrosaaaaaa!!! My girl, I’m so damn PROUD of her!!!! She’s doing absolutely amazing, and I hope they’ll bring Iris back for her in S3 as a real friend. She deserves to spend time with people other than the “alien circle” at large.

M/M breakup... let’s just say I’m glad that particular nightmare is finally OVER. Time for Michael to work on himself. He didn’t get much opportunity to do that all season.

I’m a bit worried that due to the larger time jump between S2 and 3 we’ll either not get to see much of his development, or - even worse - he hasn’t worked on himself when we meet him again. That’s why I really rather hate S2 for him as a character. Oh well, that’s something to worry about in a year, I guess.

KYLE. I was happy about the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Kylex moment, but overall S2′s done him dirty. Constantly sidelined, stuck in a relationship I still don’t care about even a little bit. And now Liz even played “god” and saved Steph (which in itself is a good thing, but Liz has been doing this all season, and no one’s stopped her, and I find that worrisome.) I guess with Steph being saved she’s also going to be in S3? Meh, I couldn’t care less, but also something to worry about next year.

Isobel didn’t get to do all that much this episode, but I love her, she’s had an amazing journey this season, and I feel she’s in a really good place right now. GOOD FOR HER!

SANDERS! Not in this episode, but damn, I love him, and I’m SO glad that MICHAEL’S DAD HAS BEEN INTRODUCED TO US THIS SEASON!

Jenna & Charlie AAAAAAHHHHHHHH, I’m so happy for them! And I’m excited to hopefully see both of them again next season! They are amazing, and as a duo a force to be reckoned with! Excited for Riley’s show Hightown to be renewed, still hope she’ll find time to travel to Santa Fe to be in several episodes of RNM.

Max... Ngl, I’m not a fan of the character. Never have been. And while Max 2.0 was nicer than Max 1.0, I never really warmed up to him. Let’s see how things with “Mr. Jones” and Max will go next season.

Maria... Let’s see how things with her go next season. Maybe she’ll finally be allowed to have a storyline that doesn’t revolve around other people.

Circling back to Alex. I love him, I love him the most. He’s on par with my other favorite character of all time (Derek Hale, in case that wasn’t clear). He’s so important to me, and Tyler did the most exquisite job playing him. S2′s been a difficult season for him and I hated that for him.

The writers held him back at almost every turn, he wasn’t allowed to move on, instead Michael got to “dump” Alex every second episode. Man, it got old real fast. But Alex’s resilience finally hammered it home to Michael, that Alex is not leaving again. He’s right there, and he’ll even show up when Michael calls him. New experience for him, I’m sure.

IDK, this whole season was such a mess, so many things that weren’t resolved in the end, the lack of a main plot kept bothering me, and I hated that some of my favorite S1 friendships were completely sidelined.

I hate that an entire season was wasted on Malex being apart, especially wasted for Michael who had a lot of shit on his plate I hoped he’d get a chance at working through (at least in part) in S2, but that didn’t happen. He had some lightbulb moments, but overall he’s still pretty much in the same spot he was at the beginning of the season.

And while I agree that he’s not ready to be with Alex atm, I hate that he did not communicate that to Alex properly, and instead left halfway through Alex’s song.

IDK, I just feel like pretty much every fanfic writer in our fandom would’ve done a better job at writing them this season, they would’ve been allowed to move forward separately, but still towards a common goal.

I know, they are endgame, there’s no doubt about that, but I’m TIRED of them not talking. And especially after Alex’s performance.

Either way, I don’t think any of this makes much sense, coherent thoughts, I don’t have them atm. I’ll need more time to think things through, and maybe my overall negative opinion of this season won’t be quite so negative anymore. Who knows.

I’ve always wondered whether I’d feel like finally watching S2 once I know how it ends, and right now I can answer that question with a firm NO. Canon exhausts me. I’m looking forward to fandom getting time to take a deep breath and process this season. 

I’m excited that we get to take care of the characters for the next year. It’s time for some good development, for tons of fics where Malex actually talk to each other, where Gregory is an awesome brother, Sanders adopts Michael and a million other things.

If there’s one thing I’m grateful for is, that the finale didn’t ruin Malex entirely. I’d been really worried about that.

Is your character popular in the fandom? YES / NO. Hard to answer, and I wouldn’t say he’s UNPOPULAR, he’s just... not as popular as say... Dany or Jon are? Or even Cersei, tbh. If there were a more middle ground option, I’d definitely he’s more middle. Sometimes I feel like he’s a forgotten character despite the massive role he’s played in the series. 

Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. Not only is Jaime known to be attractive and look the part of a king in the entire series, but Nikolaj is honestly just a super attractive male with a smile that could kill. I haven’t heard many people say that he’s an unattractive person, so this is definitely a yes. He might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s enough of a looker that his reputation proceeds him. 

Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. Okay so... this is complicated. Because many would see Jaime as weak because of his flaws, which is fair... And then they would also say he’s weak because he doesn’t have his sword hand any longer. But overall, Jaime is a strong character throughout the series, especially as a swordsman. He is one of the best swordsmen in Westeros, and I think there are MANY people who forget that little fact about him because in the series he was softening by the end of it. I think that’s where the fandom can really misinterpret Jaime. He definitely has his flaws, but he’s still an exceptionally strong individual. 

Are they underrated?  YES / NO / IDK. I think so. I think it’s mainly because I feel like he’s misunderstood by a lot of the fandom. I’m not excusing any of his shitty behaviour, but when you’ve got heroes like Jon Snow and Dany, and even Sansa, and strong villains like Cersei, Joff and Ramsay, I think they are all the face of the series. Those characters are the main characters that people think of when they see Game of Thrones. So Jaime is seen more of a support character, even with his ties. Most people think Lannister, they think Cersei and Tyrion (because they have so much more screen/book time than Jaime does). That’s the thing about GoT though, I feel like there’s no real “main” character. I feel like no matter who it is, there’s always a little love for them in the fandom, and I love that about the fandom. But overall, yes, I would say he’s definitely the third Lannister when thinking of the siblings.

Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO. He’s kind of the entire reason why there’s a war in the first place tbh... He pushed a kid out a window and all hell broke loose :’D 

Were they relevant for the main character? YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. He’s a member of one of the great Houses of Westeros. He plays a big part. 

Are they widely known in their world? YES / NO. Oh yes, greatly known, and for many reasons. Mostly he’s known for being a king slayer, though. 

How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. It depends on who you ask, but throughout most of Westeros and during the series, he does not have a good reputation. Well known for his fighting skills and handsome features are about the only good reasons, everything else comes down to his relationship with his sister (sexual included) and the fact that he is a man without honour. Only by the end of the series does his reputation change, and even then, it is small. Jaime will never recover from what he has done.

How strictly do you follow canon?  — I’m fairly strict with what I go with. I stick to a strong, canon foundation because it’s a part of Jaime that is essentially who he IS as a character. It’s why I enjoy writing him, and I’m not going to take that away from him. The only divergencies are the fact that I prefer he not die in season 8 and I also write my Jaime as demisexual/romantic. 

SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  Jaime is complicated. There is no saying he is a simple character, he has layer upon layer, and discovering that is a joy. Or at least it is for me, lol. I, personally, think Jaime is such a UNIQUE character because he actually isn’t a liar compared to his siblings. Between the bickering, Jaime is actually exceptionally forward, but because people don’t expect any Lannister to be honest, it’s a joy seeing how he can use that to his advantage. He often says cryptic, sarcastic comments that people think are him being sly and dishonest, but he’s actually being completely blunt that it’s hard to tell if Jaime is actually telling the truth or playing a game. I think that’s just a really fun trait to explore when getting to write and interact with him. Also, who doesn’t like interacting with a sarcastic arsehole? X’D Deep down, Jaime has a lot of complicated issues, however, especially when it comes to family and how he is supposed to be seen. He says he doesn’t care, but he cares deeply, he brushes everything off like it’s nothing, but he’s crippled on the inside. Jaime is just one of those really strong on the outside but weak on the inside characters, and I love getting to explore that. 

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  — I think the fact that Jaime has been in an incest relationship for his entire life, that would definitely push people away from really caring or interacting with him. And if that’s a trigger for someone, then I totally understand why they’d want to stay away. That’s fair. Jaime can also come off as selfish and cruel, with a bad temper. People might not have the PATIENCE for him, when that’s really what he needs. He needs someone to help guide him to be a better person, to remove himself from the toxicity of ... well, his entire life, lol. He can also, like mentioned in the last questions, be cryptic as fuck. He is handicapped, he can be emotionally unstable, has PTSD and honestly just has a LOT going on, and trying to push past that to make him grow as a person and a character could be too much for folks to deal with (I think that’s a plus, but I can understand why he might not be popular lol).

What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  Jaime has been one of my favourite characters ever since I got interested in the series. I was nervous as hell to join the GoTRP community because I’d never read the books before (and still haven’t finished them lol), but I adored his character from the start, especially when a redemption arc began to happen. Look, I’m a sucker for redemption arcs and character growth, learning about his past and his secret about why he killed the Mad King. Those things are things that draw me to characters, villain characters who try to be better, who learn, who become softer. I LOVE that growth, and that’s definitely what kept me interested in Jaime. His in depth character only made my drive for wanting to delve into his head stronger. I love complicated characters, I love grey characters, I love characters that have layers I can pick through and analyse. I have also always been highly interested in sexual mental health and health in general (and have been interested in psychology for ever since I was little lol), so he was right up my ally. 

What keeps your inspiration going?  —  Definitely rewatching the series (which I desperately need to do lol), and reading the novels (which I’m VERY slow with but absolutely love them!). What really keeps me interested is definitely my RP partners though, and keeping active within the writing community. I love getting to interact with everyone.

Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.

Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? I have severe duplicate insecurities like most people do, but I’m pretty happy with the grasp I have on Jaime’s character overall. It’s hard to write post season 8 Jaime without a book to go to and compare against the series, so I try and keep them pretty level with each other and find a happy place in the middle. I also know I most likely write Jaime a little more emotionally traumatised, but I try to keep what happened to him real, and that has repercussions. 

Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO / SORT OF? I need to move them over to this blog, but NOT ENOUGH. I really need to rewatch and continue the book series to get my head around more headcanons. Also I just haven’t had ANY time this year for much at all when it comes to headcanons, because I am so exhausted after work  

Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO. For Jaime, unfortunately, no. I keep most of my drabbles to my Dragon Age protags. I would love to though... if I had time, lol. 

Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day? YES / NO. Absolutely. Hyperfocus like a champ over here, lol. 

Are you confident in your portrayal? YES / NO / SORT OF? I think there’s always room for improvement, but I’m pretty happy with my portrayal so far. I try my hardest to keep him pretty canon, and the feedback I’ve had from my partners has always been so kind and reassuring <3

Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO / SOMETIMES. I’ve been writing Dragon Age for so long... I feel like I don’t know a lot of the lore when it comes to GoT. I sometimes have to Wiki things I forget, names I don’t remember, and alliances and plots because I’m BAD with politics okay? I’m terrible with it all. Writing helps me learn those things, but if I’m not interested, I find it tedious to go and research (ASD/ADHD).

Are you a sensitive person?  YES / NO / SORTA. It depends. Some things I really don’t care about, others I do. It entirely depends on my mood and the day, and how the stars align lol. Or... how tired I am, haha. It really just depends. I will be more sensitive if I’m hurt from someone that means something to me, or someone I look up to. Other days I just can’t be fucked because I’m too old and tired to deal with it. 

Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  I’m going to have to say “no” on this. It’s purely because i’m not ASKING for criticism. If I was, then that’s fair because I’m actively SEEKING to be better. Right now, Jaime is a hobby and not a muse that I am constantly working on. He’s a tertiary muse that I’m here to just have a good time with and research when I feel the need to. Outside of that, if you don’t like my portrayal then you don’t have to interact with me and that’s fine. If you think my Jaime is too emotional, I’m working off mostly season 8 things which we have no book to look back on, so it’s mostly me basing everything off his past reactions and character development. If you have issues on the way I see his and Cersei’s relationship and it being toxic despite his love for her, that’s a whole diff convo lol. At the end of the day... I’m writing him the way he comes to me, and if you don’t enjoy it then that’s all good, just don’t get in my face about it. 

Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  —  Absolutely, they help with getting to know little things about him that I may never have thought about before. I love those kinds of character development questions. 

If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  I guess it depends on what type of headcanon it is. I generally try and base my headcanons off solid evidence within his character background and events within the series. If someone doesn’t agree with me, it’s literally not the end of the world and it’s not worth arguing over--we all have out different portrayals and I’m not the original writer lol. If you’re going to get cranky at me because my Jaime enjoys the company of men as well once he’s able to explore himself sexually, then I really couldn’t give a fuck. As a gay man, it helps me enjoy the character a little bit more and identify with him, and I write Jaime as demi anyway. Plus, I also don’t write it in a sense that it’s not something he doesn’t struggle with considering Westeros is not open to such things. 

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  same as the above.

If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  I don’t actively go looking through Jaime hate tags, so I’ve never run into this? If someone follows me and hates Jaime, then I just think it’s stupid that they followed me in the first place? Obviously now that he’s on a multi, that’s a little bit more complicated, but everyone is free to not interact with him and still interact with my other characters here lol. If I follow someone and then see them actively posting hate about him, I would simply unfollow. That’s it. I’m not here to fight and argue, I’m here to have a good time, and I’m not going to force anyone to enjoy a character they don’t. 

Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  Mistakes happen, I don’t always look over my reply before posting, and more often then not, I’m tired as hell when I’m writing anyway so there might be errors from time to time. I can guarantee there’s probably some in this meme lol. If a little red squiggle doesn’t come up beneath the word, then I’ve probably not fixed it. In saying that, if you’re coming to me every time I make a typo... I will begin to get annoyed. It’s a small thing, get over it and move on. If you can’t, then maybe I’m not the right person to be writing with if it’s causing you that much stress. If I’ve completely butchered a sentence (which has happened!), then just give me a polite nudge and go “hey did you mean to write this instead?” and I’ll probably feel embarrassed and laugh about it and be like yeah sorry, I meant that :’D 

Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  When there’s not a pandemic going on in the world, I’m certainly very easy going, lol. It takes a fair bit to piss me off, and it’s got to be pretty repetitive for me to start going... mmm, there’s a pattern here and I don’t like it. But generally speaking, if you’re nice to me, I’m nice back. I don’t go looking for fights and arguments, and my nature has certainly meant people have abused me in the past. I’m often too empathetic and because I avoid trying to make a fuss and cause confrontation, I often let people do whatever. I’ve... somewhat learned from past experiences to NOT do this to myself, which I guess has made me a little bit less easy going. That and just generally getting older and not having the time to care about petty things might make me come off as a hard arse at times. But look... I’m not going to be a dickhead to anyone who doesn’t deserve it, okay? I get we’re all anxious, I get we’re all curious, I get that we all have opinions. Don’t be a dick and you don’t have anything to worry about. I can sometimes be blunt, but most people learn that that’s just me. Maybe it’s an Aussie thing, maybe it’s a me thing. And this is in addition to the traditional Momotaro folktale that, a Momotaro is a strong child who can lift. However, most just look to Snow White as the strongest cuz she dented metal bare handed...and well is the “face” of the game.]

Momotaro was one to actually gather folks to storm the castle as they say, because it seems before hand the other heroes were just minding their own business. He definitely needs a confidence booster, but could that be part of his charm? Maybe. But hey, I think y’all might really like the idea I got for him, and mainly Smash! Like, have you ever wondered what goes on in that mansion? ...well yes, but what about those who aren’t fighters? Or even assist trophies! That’s where the smash verse comes in! NOW THE OPPOSITE, LIST EVERYTHING WHY YOUR MUSE COULD NOT BE SO INTERESTING (EVEN IF YOU MAY NOT AGREE, WHAT DOES THE FANDOM PERHAPS THINK?).  —  This is a character from a game whose designers may appreciate the female figure a bit too much. I always have a tough time recommending this game to others, and hell, I’m terrible at playing it myself. Hell, the fact that most of the characters are minors is just a...”why do you design them like this Bo.mi” thing. Most do seem to think highly of those designs though, as that’s the main aspect of the game I keep hearing in my searches. Now, I’ve received a good amount of concerns over the years that Momotaro not speaking proper English is either racist or babyish...or both. Is my take too depressing? There are often times I think yes, and feel unbelievable shame over it despite others going hard on the angst train.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?  —  Well uh, I believe I was charmed by his rugged but baby appearance in the game..and it just so happen at the time that I was part of a budding rp group. Despite the theme being mostly “OUENDAN”, that was the start of me shoving Momotaro into every fuckin’ thing because he’s cute as shit and obscure muses can be fun too! It was also probably relaxing for me because gosh dang back then I was scared of getting something wrong about someone canon with more lore...and I am still scared about that to this day.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?  —  Studying about Japanese culture, learning the language...the fact that I’ve been rping him for almost 10 years (read like 8-9 at this point)...I do wonder if I should stop rping him...and then I keep hearing that people only want characters only in as fighters, fighters are the only important thing about smash and that grows my weird spite and just continue this “backstage” plot of Smash. Yes, getting a franchise in as a fighter is a VERY high commemoration but, I think it’s just as equally amazing when a franchise gets in as an assist trophy or even a spirit/trophy! So yeah it’s petty and I better find some other motivation soon because it’s exhausting.

There be times where I run into some sort of writer’s block due to his meek (and traumatized) nature, and because of how he speaks, it’s scary. Am I pushing his issues too much...? And then when I do want to write with someone, I fear that my simpler (children’s book) ways of writing would be a turn off. DO YOU ACCEPT CRITICISM WELL ABOUT YOUR PORTRAYAL?  —  I do my best to take crits when I get them but sometimes it just haunts me because I have mixed feelings on being told that the way he speaks is racist or childish.  But hey, if you got more advice on how to write trauma and special needs, I’m all ears! Particularly because I’m writing from my own experience in my life and research. ...Dad isn’t that superb at speaking English and that's where I got the Momo speak.

IF SOMEONE DISAGREES TO A HEADCANON OF YOURS, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY?  —  as my take on Momotaro is very meek, I’d like to see how one would take  on a more confident/more canon true take on him. But that’s a pipe dream. Coruse the only headcanon I will never take (that I fear the fandom will have due to perverted nature) is that he’s just a fuckin harem protag wanting to get into pants. To that I say: NO. In canon he doesn’t give a fuck about the fact his teammates are girls...or even acknowledges that they're girls. It’s the time to survive, not boogie on beds...or at a tree.

IF SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH YOUR PORTRAYAL, HOW WOULD YOU TAKE IT?  — I anticipate that wholly because again, I have gotten comments that my take on Momotaro has not properly prepared them to witness the sheer destruction and toughness that is canontaro. Honestly I’d be hyped to see more takes...except for the harem route ones. Am I gonna jinx myself for saying it that much?

IF SOMEONE REALLY HATES YOUR CHARACTER, HOW DO YOU TAKE IT?  —  I probably would be sad but understanding...I mean it’s not the first time that someone has taken deep offense at Momo and me, mainly in the rp sense. I would hope they would at least go find something that makes them happy.

Animal Crossing New Horizon

After Watching the Trailer and Gameplay demo I have a few thoughts on what more could be within the game. It’s clear that people have already pointed out small things that caught their eyes, but I have some theories about some of the changes and returning features in New Horizon.

(This is a long read, You were warned)

I was overjoyed when Animal Crossing: New Horizon was showcased. I was surprised when they used a voice-acted cutscene to introduce the game. After all the franchise does not typically use voice acting, which leads me to believe that what was shown in the trailer will not be in the opening scene.

While I would love to think that the opening scene plays on an airplane, I believe that the opening scene will be more along the lines of obtaining your ticket to the island, where you answer a survey where you either (and I hope) pick the features for your character, or are randomly assign features based on your answers. This opening sequence will also be where you pick the name of the island as well as the name of your character.

It’s clear that the game will utilize obtaining resources to construct much of the furniture that you use to decorate your home or island. I enjoy this change because it’ll make the game feel like your actually building up your community instead of just paying off a community service project (though I expect them to return in some fashion, I’ll elaborate a bit later). 

Obtaining DIY recipes from villagers sound like it may be a hassle, but at least you can rest assured that you’ll be able to buy them from the Nooks. Something interesting to point out is the type of things you’ll be able to make. 

Shown in the gameplay, it seems that (in the order shown) players will be able to craft, tools (shovels, fishing rod, etc), furniture, drink containers (or maybe drink concoctions?), hanging furniture (to put on walls), Wallpaper and flooring, and flower crowns (maybe even hats in general?).

The last two icons have me stumped to what they could clearly be, though if I had to guess, the hammer is either a community service project (from New Leaf) or an amenity (from Pocket Camp). The star could also be used for these, though I would guess that it would represent special items. Maybe items that you interact with (Like ballons, poppers, candy, cake, ect).

something I am glad is in the game is the what seems to be the ability to see how much of a certain material you have in your wardrobe to create an item. It seems that in this version of Animal Crossing that it’ll come in handy.

Continuing the discussion about crafting items, it seems that you may not be the only one who can. At least that’s my hunch. in the information shown to us, it seems that not only can villagers have workbenches int their homes, but they can also be seen carrying items. 

It would be great if not only animals gifted your furniture, but also the recipe for it. It would be even better if you could share recipes with other players!

Though an upgrade that villagers are clearly getting is one in style. It seems that new clothing items such as dresses will be able to be sported by your characters. I doubt that your villagers will change their outfits season, but it is a possibility. 

A new fashion sense isn’t the only thing that villagers are getting but it seems new furniture and houses are coming to Animal Crossing.

The style of the homes seems to be going back to the house from Animal Crossing: City Folk. It also seems that door decoration will be available to not only players but also villagers. As for the exterior, I believe that it will be selected by the player themselves. Not only will the player choose what the houses look like, but I also believe we will finally be able to choose the locations of the houses.

In the gameplay, we spot two tents, which aren’t really addressed at all. We also only see two villagers. These two tents can also be seen in the map (in the right bottom corner) during the gameplay demo. At first, I thought these were to be developed shops, but looking at the little sign on the right of the blue tent, it’s clear that these belonging to the villagers. Because these two tents are strangely close together (something that would almost never naturally happen in Animal Crossing: New Leaf) it leads me to believe that players will select where Villagers will live. It also shows that the island will progressively be inhabited (though you may start with 2 villagers). 

As for selecting the exterior of the homes, which lead me to believe this is the fact that we have new home exteriors. Not only do we have the wooden lodge, we also have a more beachy looking home:

The tents and home exterior also show that you’ll not only have to develop the island and build up your own home, but also the home of your villagers. 

Concerning the type of villagers that will come to inhabit your island, I believe that it will be random, though you may be able to select the villagers via amiibo cards (at least I hope, that way I can have a bunch of cute villagers). 

Homes don’t seem to be the only thing that will be in development on the island. I’m assuming that you’ll also be able to develop a central plaza. In the gameplay, we are shown a map, in the center, there is a squared (well rectangle) off area. 

It’s in this area where we can access the community center (Where Nook is) and the message board.

I believe that this area will grow as the island does. Unlocking new shops by either collecting materials or getting bells (or a combination of both). This is will act as a town square, or at the very least, the community center will grow and we’ll see some familiar faces. 

(I also want to point out that on the map, you can see the airplane, and an area in lighter green (lightly to be an area that’s alleviated and cannot be reached unless a staircase or a ladder of some sort is built)).

As for right now, it seems that besides crafting, selling, and buying things there are two other things available to you. 

First, there’s what seems to be an ATM. It’s likely to operate as a place to store your bells, but it may also function as the place to trade in your Nook Miles (if not then that may be the function of Tommy or Timmy, or maybe even Tom Nook). 

(I should mention that I feel like the Nook Miles will fully replace the badges, which sucks cause I like the badges on the player card....)

Then there’s the box, which I believe will act like a lost-and-found. I’m almost certain because the icon of a mitten (an item that is lost by Villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizon) is on the box. 

Timmy and Tommy will sell and buy items, while I think Tom Nook will function to pay off your debt and maybe even help you in developing the homes of your villagers. 

Something that I’m excited for is the return of old functions with new additions. It’s clear from the gameplay that fishing and bug catching will function the same, with the addition of bait (as discussing in the gameplay demo). While we know clams can be used as fish bait, it’s likely that honey may be used to catch bugs (obtained from flowers?).

Something that I’m not too happy about is pockets...from the demo we see a very limited pocket space, which is likely to be remedied with backpacks (or purses) but how we obtain this extra storage is unknown.

Something that is interesting to look at is the Nook Phones. Through the phone, we have access to the Camera, Nook Miles, DIY Recipes, The Map, and calling friends (for local multiplayer).  While there doesn’t seem like a lot, it’s likely that as we continue to play the game, we’ll unlock more apps for the Nook Phone or we’ll have to buy them). 

While the demo displayed the camera feature we saw the emotions the player can use, and it’s likely Dr. Shrunk will return to allow us to react even more.

Here are a few small things I noticed in the trailer besides all of the above, such as:

Fences! (no more planting hedges!)

You can move your mailbox? (or more maybe that’s just how it upgrades?). Also, look at that new exterior!

FINALLY ACTUAL DIRT PATHS (No more depending on QR codes!)

Vaulting?? (I know this isn’t a small thing, but I’m super excited! though I’m certain we’ll eventually be able to unlock bridges!)

Mushrooms! They seem to spawn naturally in the fall! (no more ugly stumps)

Finally, I fully expect certain features (such as furniture or amenities) from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp to show up in the game, or at least we’ll see some familiar faces from the mobile game.

1. three songs that come up when you put your phone on shuffle

I don’t have access to my full music library atm, so I’m going to do an ad hock version with Pandora by circling my finger around with my eyes closed to select a station and putting the first song that comes up. So if this is a little wonky, I apologize.

-The Chemical Worker’s Song- So this one was new to my Pandora stream (and technically didn’t fit my Sea Shanties station) but was excellent. I really need to give in and make an Irish station so I don’t have to keep getting sad about culling songs like this one. (I use it for cooking, mainly, btw, and being pumped about One Piece)

-Wouldn’t It Be Loverly- ah, still the dream. Fun to make up dances to, as well. Great song, great musical. From my Musicals station.

-Come Thou Fount by Jadon Lavik from my Hymn station, another one I have to keep tightly cultivated. This hymn, if not this version, was actually the seed for this station.

3. three songs you were recently obsessed with

-Northwest Passage by Stan Rogers - the sound, the road trip feel, the different history perspectives that it makes me think about, especially the line “a land so wide and savage”.

-The Green Fields of France by Eric Bogle- this song and the one above it were misfit suggestions on my Sea Shanty station, actually. I ended up buying the High King’s album because I wanted a copy of this song and it ended up being...a bad version. (For instance “the countless white crosses in mute witness stand” becomes “the countless white crosses stand mute in the sand”, which robs it of its intensity and just...doesn’t make sense in a song that is literally about a grassy green graveyard. So I’ve sought out many versions to find one I like.) I love the rest of the CD for walking and outdoor work, though.

-Cold Missouri Waters by James Keelaghan - I heard this one at a ranger talk about controlled burns at some National Park over a decade ago, and it stuck with me.  I try out various ways of singing it every so often, because the story strikes a feeling in me that I don’t think I’ve yet been able to express in my music.

Umm... my musical tastes are actually much more varied than this; I am not actually on a folk kick at the moment, even. So, honorable mention to:

-Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego by Rockapella - which I am currently in the process of memorizing so I can sing it whenever I want.

-Take me Home, Country Roads by John Denver - I know this one literally thanks to my father; I had it memorized before I ever heard John Denver singing it. It was one of our standard car songs.

-When God Ran - an interesting retelling of the parable of the Prodigal Son that my mother literally emailed me, and the start of a music folder with her name on it.  Most of my modern Christian music knowledge is songs my mother sends me.

-What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong- my dad heard this on the radio when he was driving to the hospital to bring me home, and so it has sort of been our song ever since.

Honorable mention to: literally half of my music library is from CDs I stole (and replaced for various birthdays, etc) from my dad.

-El Grillo credited to Josquin des Pres - Italian, a fun, descriptive song about a cricket. Fun to sing, fun to hear.

-Sa Se Un Jou - Haitian Creole, I learned it during a trip there, and it reminds me of all the people I met. I’ve since taught it to kid groups I’ve worked with, and it’s fun to watch them learn faster than the adults, and reach out a little further into the wider world.

-Siyahamba - South African/Zulu, I learned this in kiddie choir in school first, but soon sang it many places, so it has a lot of memories.  Also the rhythms are fun, and I love songs where people know harmonies or variations and aren’t afraid to sing them.

-Molasses to Rum from “1776”- umm, I love 1776 for many reasons, and this song is fantastic and sobering. A reminder that slavery is a legacy to more than just plantations.

-Fear is a Liar by Zach Williams- another one from Mom, but one that is helpful to hear, especially when you’re struggling.  Warning for the video; it made me cry the first time.

-Jesus Entered Egypt by Alan Tice - I can’t actually find a recording of this, but the lyrics work well enough (3rd song on the page). We sang it at university for a Christmas program and it’s stuck with me. I’ve sent it to many government officials, to no reply of course, but I send it again every so often.

-In Western Lands - this setting is fantastic, and I sing it every time I see the stars in the trees. It has such hope, and that plus Tolkien makes me think of you (there is some good!) Plus, this book this was the first thing I bought for myself online, so it makes me think of good things you can find online.

-I See the Moon- I feel this is self explanatory. 

-Soon from “Thumbelina”- Thumbelina gets awesome dresses and is in a world too big for her but she perseveres and always finds a friend and gets her love in the end. And I’m so stoked for you right now! (But if this one doesn’t work out, someone, someday, soon will!)

So, was I the only one getting Major Kingdom Hearts, particulaly Chain of Memories, vibes from the inbetween? I know that music has been reminding me of it, idk if he's using the soundtrack or im projecting one of my favorite things onto the music he uses sometimes, but it just has. ok? ok. SO thinking of chain of memories and karl's situation there's a lot to think about there. in chin of memories the main characters, mainly sora, lose memories the deeper they adventure into this castle, castle oblivion, BUT the difference is that in sora's case his memorie's being tampered with by a nobody, the bad guys at the moment, making him forget his loved ones and replecing them with someone from their side to get to him. Kairi being switched for namine. the reason why i suddenly bring this up is because now, i am thinking about karlnapity but sapnap and quackity are replaced by someone else from the other side and i am an angst machine-ANYWAY THAT OOUT OF THE WAY-the difference between the castles are, the inbetween Helps karl with his memory the farther he walks through it,and while castle oblivion was swarming with org.13 members, the baddies, the inbetween seems to be entirely karls atm. karl could have writen those books, someone else could have, we don't know yet. the castle is a safe haven for karl when he waits to be sent either way now, and we can only imagine where the hallways will lead

BACK TO THE SOUL SAND CHANDILER SHALL WE!! So another idea based off of billioum's mansion, what if Billium or his butler, wow we never did get a name from him huh...i will bring that up too, tried to get rid of the egg the same way bad started to do after skeppy got reded? we got a main handler with blue flames nearby to take out the thing that took something most precious to them. What did billum loose? Well, actually a thought just accored to me. Billum says he doesn't live at this mansion, but his butler does...the butler id the main handler-OR Billium fund the egg, he becomes the main hander for the time being, but he's getting richer and this mansion has always been too small for his liking. he Wants to leave. his greatest desire, a bigger mansion. billium leaves and the egg attaches to ranbo's charater-I will be comeing back to the ranboo tie in i will becoause i have a problem with overanilizing and filling in the holws with my own loopholes and 'what ifs'-the butler is the main handler. OR it could be a co. handler thing, could be it's a partnership.

ranboo and techno are loyal to partnerships and friends. billium and butler could work well together and to lore in the 'rich' folk set up an act of master of the house and single butler at their every beck and call, maybe even, with their acting skills, ranboo's character is the master of the house and techno's is the butler. it seems a bit under him, but for the end goal, to quiet the voice, and a change of pace, i could see it if continued to be the silent treatment that we got from the butler for the most part(this is pretty much just crack at this point, but let me imagine). when butler would slip up billium seemed pretty lenient when it happened, he was chill to joke about having butler be a sacrifice to find the killer because he knew who it was. when he took away the 2 weeks no food punishment, it seemed weird to me. we don't see much of this billium guy's personality nor how he thinks, but he seems to be an ok guy, minus the rich personality and egg obsetion, but he trusted butler to get the dirty work done, that has to grow from somewhere. I may just be projecting what i see in techno's character into billioum, or it could just be his own personality constantly seeping through, but billioum trusted the butler and the butler seems to have...im not sure what word to use exactly, but a mutual trust? maybe? it could just be me prohecting positive ranboo and techno interactions onto these newest characters that have their names hovering over their heads, im not sure

WE WERE RIGHT IN SO MANY REGARDS!!!! though some of the creatorrs might have just seen some of our theories and said "we can make that cannon" and then they did, BUT THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT SO MUCH WAS-UH-RIGHT! I'm still thinking that the red eyed whatever the fuck wars is attached to the egg somehow, and with how it acted and worked in the masquerade it sounds like something the egg would be able to do. ie create a war to feed itself. it could be conected to so much of the violence on the server, along with dream. hes a solid input when it comes to violence on the server. his worshiper at mizu killed anyone that edventures too close, he's been in nearly all the wars in recent history, his main thing is pvp, he can goat someone else onto doing vilence with him.

so, the egg. the egg and violence. it speaks to people, tells them it can give them anything they desire. there's a great post about how the egg doesn't effect those surrounded by love, or just in contact with any kind of love. i know, cleche, and tooth rotting fluff, but it's good shit. the egg gains trust by being seemingly unviolent and just asking for food, in terms of badboyhalo, and then something may go wrong in the life of their main handler, ie skeppy sacraficing himself to 'snap' his friends out of it. which did not work. we can only assume the first encaounter went and how the egg got billioum(how the fuck do we spell that??)to take care of it and feed it full on people. from the sounds of it, he was already rich when he found it, so it didn't have whispers of succes in forms of gold blocks in his ears. we can only guess with contex clues and lines techno said throughout the stream. SPEAKING OF TECH

Technoblade. the pvp legend, the undying, he never dies, and He Has Violent Voices In His Head-do you see where this is going. Technomate, another near constant presents of violence on the server ever since he's joined. "the voices demand blood" "the egg demands poor people" it might just be because he's already so used to saying the blood god line, but let me overanilise in peace(I looked at the begining of the stream for billioum?'s pronounciation and noticed the carpet being red and the chandelier being soulsand-I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THAT!!!)something people keep mentioning when it comes to the tales from the smp is how technoblade was mentioned and promently known as an orphan killer in the town that went mad. which was set Years in the past, hundreds of years. making the theory that tech is the/a blood god. well i bring you this. techno didn't change much to his skin, well, he did, but i'm trying to get at that under thar mask, he still has thesame face(better throw those old tech theories out because im about to fuck them up big time). billium could be techno, we don't have much of a techno backstory-WE DON'T HAVE MUCH OF A RANBOO ONE EITHER AND MY BRAIN JUST HAD ANOTHER THOUGHT THAT NEEDS TO WAIT HOLD ON ADD-it could be that techno fund the egg-don't ask me how he rich, he just is i guess-he found the egg and that's when the voices staarted. the egg was the first voice, but being immortal or whateverthefuck, he gained Somthing else, chat. im not sure exactly how why or when, but they know things techno doesnt, their omnicient. something could have happened that he got seperated from the egg and the egg influence went away but chat stayed and he's become a different person now-could be a reason for hating gov. it being a reason to see certain people as less than others. I am seriously thinking about bellium and techno being the same people, like this fits in a great twisted way-I HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN TO KARL YET FUCK-also if you guys still diss these people's acting after this i will hit you with a planet

Munday info for new followers!

I have some new followers so Munday seemed like a good time to say this stuff! - I am trying to keep a clean dash so I’m unlikely to follow back if we’re not threading. If you want to unfollow because of that, that’s totally okay, I understand. You can still send me things, plot, etc, anything. Whether I am following you, or vice versa, isn’t an issue for me when it comes to interaction. - I definitely want to give everybody a chance; I look at any and every blog that follows me. That said, in terms of time/energy, I’m a limited being. If I don’t immediately see a way our characters could interact, I probably will not message you about RP. That said, if you have a plot idea, by all means tell me! - I’m slow on replies. Goes with that limited time/energy thing. I also am in so many threads right now that I’m trying to be more selective about committing to new ones. But I don’t plan on leaving tumblr any time soon, so just because we’re not threading now doesn’t mean we can’t in the future! - Ask memes are a great way to interact with me! I know some people turn them into threads, I generally do not, so if you reblog to add something I probably will not reblog it back (but I will read it!!) or only reblog back a few times, but what I mainly use ask memes for is very quick, one-reply interactions in which we don’t need to worry about how/why our characters are meeting, sustaining prolonged interaction, etc. And as always, we don’t need to be mutuals, you don’t need to have ever talked to me before, etc. - It is notably difficult to interact with these muses because they are an insular terrorist cult. If your character is not aligned with them (or the Brotherhood, or Magneto) it is hard to have a positive interaction. If your character is a “hero” (X-Men, Avenger, etc.) then it is nearly impossible. That is what I have AUs for, verses where this divide does not apply. If you really want your muse to hang with mine but we can’t find a way to do that without mine trying to murder yours, that’s what the AUs are there for! - I also have other blogs! @shinobixshaw, @sebastianshaw, @malcortez, and @mypralaya. All of them are Marvel 616 canons, and all of them except Sebastian Shaw are MUCH easier to interact with, though Shinobi is kinda inactive atm? Malcolm is kinda inactive too but that’s just because most folks aren’t that interested in him >> Anyway, I’m sorry this is long, but I hope it’s helpful! Magi: What went wrong?

This is in the same vein as the Berserk post, but you’ll find that  it differs wildly from it, since 

A- the problems that Magi is facing are totally different from Berserk’s. 

and spoiler alert 

B- Berserk is still good. Whereas Magi isn’t.

No use beating around the bush. The quality of storytelling in the main manga at least has declined dramatically, to the point that i really don’t see the point in reading it anymore, not even for closure. It really feels like Ohtaka doesn’t try anymore, that she completely dropped the ball.

And I will try to give a justification to this claim. And as usual I’ll try to be as unbiased as possible.Also this might very well be my last Magi related post, because as I just said I don’t plan on catching up anymore, I really don’t care about the ending, which saddens me of course since I devoted a large amount of my time discussing it on various sites ad nauseum.

So if you came here because of Magi then I really am sorry, but I’ll try to make this one worthwhile. 

In order to figure out what went wrong, we have to ask ourselves what are the strengths of Magi. Magi’s strengths as a somewhat unconventional shounen were: the sense of adventure, the comedy, the politics, the plot which mostly made sense and of course the characterization.So let’s go over each one.

I- The adventure

The first 100 chapters of Magi were filled with adventure, which in Magi comes mainly in the form of dungeon diving. Even if the action scenes themselves aren’t perfect, and in general they’re not Ohtaka’s forte, it still is that the adventure was one of the main components of what made Magi so appealing. But quickly we saw Ohtaka moving away from that, and even the World exploration arc couldn’t save the sense of adventure, since dungeon diving was no longer a thing. Furthermore it managed to divide the main cast, and as such a good chunck of the interactions between them were lost, and back then a lot of focus was devoted to Magnostadt, so it doesn’t feel like the attention was divided equally between Aladdin, Alibaba and Mor.

Why is adventure so important? Well it is after all a shounen manga, many of them feature some sense of adventure, with series like OP being the prime example of that. And it’s not like Ohtaka simply ran out of ideas for adventure, she could have had any other real dungeon (Belial isn’t the norm for dungeons) or she could have explored some of the nations that were only mentioned briefly in the manga or the artbook, but nope. And I can attribute it partially to the fact that she got too focused on the politics.

II- The comedy

Not every shounen has to feature comedy, but most if not all of them do. Magi’s comedy was one of my favourites, but I do realize that it can be rather personal, and not two people will find the same joke funny. Nevertheless the comedy serves mostly to lighten the mood, which is very important when you’re having arcs after arcs of very dramatic stuff. 

Sadly while the first 100 chapters featured a good deal of it, the tone got much more serious, and a lot of the comedy was lost through the arcs starting from Magnostadt. And in recent years, at least in the main manga,the jokes all came at Alibaba’s expenses, and the running joke about him not having a girlfriend became old quickly.

But some might not find it necessary to have comedy at all in their manga, especially Japanese humour which isn’t always appreciated by everyone, to which I say it really is missing the point. The point is not to just feature random jokes, it’s more about finding the right tempo and the balance between serious and non serious moments. Once you do that you’ll find it’s easier to keep the readers interested.

III- The politics

Ah the meat of this whole post. The politics. Usually I see them as Magi’s forte, Magi is unconventional because of it, because you’ll find that everywhere else Ohtaka does follow the shounen tropes, sometimes to the letter. 

Magi is always regarded as different because of it, which sure is refreshing, because as it stands Magi isn’t so much about the fights, and more about the politics. And while Ohtaka has always had some degree of it ever since the beginning, there used to be more balance between the politics and the adventure and shouneny(is that even a word?) aspects.

But around halfway through the manga, the politics has started to overshadow everything else. The problem is not just the fact that the balance between action and politics was lost, but the fact that the politics themselves aren’t that good. A prime example of that is the Kou civil war and everything that lead to it. 

More than just the politics not being good, it even doesn’t pay off. Case in point with the latest arc in Magi. Alibaba and co going to the Sacred Palace and trying to argue with Sinbad, only for the latter to be fucked over by David. And we go from a situation where politics seem to get somewhere, to straight shounen mindless fighting,wtf.Can’t get someone to agree with you? Fight them.It happened in the Kou Civil war,  And that is literally what happened with Sinbad, but also now with David.

 So the politics don’t seem to pay off, because of that it doesn’t seem to me it warrants having so much focus given to it.All of that discussion and bringing arguments and trying to convince someone, usually the villain, don’t seem to work. So why devote so much time to it, when apparently you can just beat someone senseless?

I’m fine with having some degree of politics, but it shouldn’t overshadow the rest, and considering it’s not even some clever politics, but sometimes it literally feels like someone just talking out of their ass (literally each time with Aladdin) then you’re simply alienating it.

IV- The plot

With each manga or any work really, the plot needs to be somewhat consistent. Meaning that each plot twist would have to be somewhat logical, but with Ohtaka it has been rather nonsensical especially as of late.

The plot seems to be all over the place, and that Ohtaka changes her mind all the time, as much as she’s changing underwear maybe. There are various instances of the plot having twists just for the sake of having them, and I think it all started with Alma Torran and the Arba twist. Even if we argue that it was ambiguous, the fact that David was never so much as hinted at, and yet have this much importance, pretty much came out of nowhere.Now an author can always create a character if he wants to, but the mere fact that David has pretty much manipulated everyone, and for the longest time Al Thamen were thought to be the villains yet turned out to be pawns, is nothing short of being mindboggling.

And his prophetic writing doesn’t help, it gave some exposition about certain plot points that weren’t even hinted at at that moment. Basically it feels like Ohtaka decided to make a new villain out of scratch, perhaps because Al Thamen’s motivation just doesn’t seem to have been that strong. Because even if we argue that they had some legitimate reason to be pissed at Solomon, it certainly doesn’t explain why they were dead set on destroying the new world. So their position there is less legitimate, and as such they come off as weak, cliche villains. And David is also as cliche as they can get.

And the last arc features a good amount of plot twists just for the kicks of it. Oh Sinbad is dead, nope he’s not. David became Sinbad’s bitch, nope it isn’t and David has been manipulating him all the time. See what I mean?

V- The characterization

While Magi offers a good deal of characters you can sympathize with, and they all have some colourful personalities, it really is that the characterization isn’t always top notch, especially in the last arc. I always had reservations about characters like Alibaba or Kouen, because for the former he seemed for the longest time to not have grown as much, and basically he did nothing. And the for the latter, just all around being a hypocrite who denied Hakuryuu, even though he himself didn’t want to be a king.The Alma Torran folks especially were pretty immature, so someone like Solomon really came off as a brat who thought he could fix things, but just made them worse. And while he realized his mistake, it was too late and we haven’t seen or heard of him much since, to really understand where he came from and what he learned from that experience.

And the prime example of the poor handling of the characterization is Sinbad himself. Yes, while it was predictable he’d want to make himself God at one point (and it’s not sure he succeeded) it still is that his visit to the Sacred Palace, and even before that saw his character being handled in the most horrible way. Instead of giving him more reasons to become God, and his experiences as a human having a bearing on the situation, Ohtaka simply chalked it up to him just being “greedy”. Even afterwards when he seems to have finally come to an understanding with Alibaba and co, he seems to side with David instead, out of the blue, just because they share the same fate? It looks like Sinbad can’t make up his mind, or even that he’s a jerk.

And let’s not even talk about the fact that he legitimately wanted to orchestrate a genocide, which if you read SnB would be very difficult to swallow, considering how Sinbad reacted to the villagers getting slaughtered on Barbarossa’s orders, and also how deeply he was touched by the destruction of Sindria 1.0 which is nothing short of being a genocide.

So yes the characterization has been especially disappointing.

Conclusion

So Magi’s main issues have to do with the story itself, the nonsensical characterization, and the fact that Ohtaka uses plot twists as often as possible to try to garner some interest, but it just feels like she’s going  with whatever she likes atm, and changing her mind all the time.

Other issues pertain to the lack of balance  between various aspects of the manga that made its appeal, or even scrapping them off completely. And I’m sure there’s other issues I haven’t talked about.

There is also too much focus on the pairings and the romance, which not only is divisive, but it just doesn’t seem to be happening at the right time-coughAlimorcough.While shounens aren’t exactly known for featuring romance, sometimes it just doesn’t seem warranted, and it is downright happening at the wrong time, which as I previously pointed out greatly divided the fandom. And trust me the last thing you’d want to see if a forum blowing up due to Alibaba and Mor getting together too early, or even hinting at the possibility of Aladdin and Kougyoku having something going on, which it did.

So based on all these facts, I’m tempted to say that Magi is NOT what it used to be, it is NOT in any way shape or form good, that Magi greatness we experienced in the first half of the manga is mostly gone. I can chalk it up to a few things, including the fact that Ohtaka could be pressured by her editor to change plot points which she has done in the past and is prolly still doing. But mainly I think Ohtaka simply gave up, and can’t wait to finish her story, which as you know might end prematurely, since I think she could have explored way more things since she hasn’t shown all of the countries in the NW or most of them. And with the possibility of parallel universes she could still have the story go on for longer than that, but instead the manga is ending. 

And it sure feels like she has stopped trying overall. Of course this is my opinion and you might not agree with it, but that doesn’t invalidate it.

Okay, so I think I understand your points. I don't have a great brain rn as I haven't slept since 10am yesterday (anxiety and dysphoria woohoo!).

I don't have a great trust of the DSM in trans issues, mainly because I believe, based on evidence I've seen in the past, that gender is neurological (brain sex, which you described in your 2nd paragraph). The DSM is partnered with/written by the APA (I forget which atm) which deals with psychology, not neurology.

That being said, all your other points seem to have good explanations as to why you've used it. If I'm following correctly, you believe gender dysphoria to be a symptom of being trans, and incongruence to be the ultimate indicator.

(I'll leave the ROGD stuff for now, but all your stuff seems to check out)

Presented with this information on what defines incongruence (your 2nd paragraph) I believe I've realised where the wires are crossing in this debate.

Your side says gender incongruence, my side says brain sex. Both mean the same thing.

Having that out of the way, my theory is that the current standards for gender dysphoria are too high. The need for an extremely poor ability to function is silly as the ability to cope varies. As a whole, though, we need to be a bit more strict with who transitions, as people are seeing a lot more folks detranitioning than in the past. We just need to find the right areas to put restrictions on, not put restrictions on everything indiscriminately.

If your brain has developed one way, and your body another, there will be a desire to hold the sex characteristics of that which your brain expects, whether you realise it or not.* That, to most people on my side, is what classifies as gender dysphoria.

In the future, with the development of technology, we'll be able to scan people's brains so we can be 100% sure that they're trans. That day hasn't come yet. The tech is way too crude and expensive to be widespread.

The breakdown of all that bullshit I just spewed (my side in green, yours in violet, neutral terms in black):

Incongruence is brain/body mismatch

Brain sex is being trans

Mismatch between brain and body is being trans

That mismatch causes

A sense of belonging to the wrong gender

Gender dysphoria

A desire to have the sex characteristics of your brain rather than your body.

At this point, it's really a debate of schematics, and even the framing is the same. My other post, which I'll link here, deals with the euphoria/dysphoria debate, but the way you've framed it seems to have the same goal as mine. We just picked different words.

I'm not saying this is the same for all people in this discourse, as some people are just at odds entirely, but it seems to be the case here. Am I up the right tree?

*me as an example: didn't realise I had bottom dysphoria until you got really sleep deprived one day. I was just an expert at coping with it. It was always there, just really minimal

Heya people! My friend, Mrshawn, and I, have been working on a unique twist to an SMP for a bit over a month now!

We are happy to let y'all know, we have officially released it a bit over a week ago!

What’s So Hardcore About It?

Well, for starters, we have banned recipes(that will be unlocked in the future, as players progress)! These recipes consist of all armors except leather, all weaponry above stone axes/swords, and all diamond tools!

We’ve done this solely to control player progression, and give a unique hardcore aspect, so nobody is rocking full diamond, and finding it very easy to survive against mobs, and other players!

What's Unique?

Well, there are plenty of unique aspects to our server, and more to come! Here's what we’ve got so far: * Custom Enchants (80+!) * Crates (We currently only have one, but I am working on another ATM.) * Custom Kits * GKitz (NOT YET RELEASED! In development.) * Custom Spawn (Also shopkeepers, where you can sell/buy items!) * Dungeons (This is the most exciting thing to us! Our FIRST dungeon will be open for players this weekend, for beta testing!) * Events (These are mainly random, but there will be scheduled days after this weekend! We have a Skype group to keep things like these organized!)

Why You Should Join?

We believe we’ve taken a fairly unique spin on normal minecraft, while making it extremely different, but still similar to normal survival. We also would just love to have some sort of competitive feel to the game, rather than just us playing solo. If we just get three other players, that would make us extremely happy!

I did the thing--2017 #PimpMyBio is up!

I finally took the plunge, did the thing, and made a Pimp my Bio for this year's #PitchWas.

 So welcome to my #PimpMyBio! I suck at blogging, mainly because I have no steady internet access ATM. So that being said, about me and my manuscript.

About me: I'm a writer who loves anything whimsical and spooky. I enjoy horror movies, spooky games, dark fantasy novels, and anything Halloween. I also love cats. And snakes.  My MS, WILLOW HILLS, is an #OwnVoice manuscript. It's THE WINTER PEOPLE meets ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD, with a subtle, but dark, Pinocchio twist.

A brief overview:

When the sun goes down, the gravestone statues in Willow Hills Cemetery come to life—including Gretta. She just wants to be a real girl, but as a granite guardian of the dead, it’s her job to make sure her charge—the snarky spirit Quinn Rivera—crosses over and finds spiritual peace.

But that's a little hard to do when Quinn's twin brother Jason blames himself for her premature death. And for Quinn to agree to cross over, he must learn the truth of her passing, and the crippling bipolar depression that led her to shut him out beforehand.

WILLOW HILLS is a YA paranormal fantasy. It is an #OwnVoice novel, and for the first time in my life, I've came point to where I'm comfortable talking about it. It took a lot of guts. It took a lot of planning, outlining, and reworking my scenes.

 For the past two years, I've came to term with my diagnosis. I'm stable now--productive. WILLOW HILLS is something that just stuck. If it weren't for the awesome writing community, I wouldn't have this manuscript. Seriously. You all are amazing.

 I feel incredibly humbled to be a part of the community. I am so stoked to meet new people, read amazing words, and gain knowledge though this year's Pitch Wars. Already, I've met incredible people--I found a CP who is awesomesauce and amazenoodles, right on the twitter feed, and her book is sofreakinggoodIcan'teven.
