A war council was immediately called, and Aemma was frustrated. She barely had enough time to enjoy her night with her husband before the greens had to ruin it. As she waited for the council to start, Benji’s hand caressed her inner thigh, trying to relax her and ground himself. Rhaenyra walks into the room, prompting everyone to rise and bow to her before sitting back down in their seats. Rhaenyra sits at the top of the table as she signals for Jacaerys to start the meeting.
Jace clears his throat, “We apologize for the early morning, but we received a letter from Lord Staunton, stating that the greens, specifically Criston Cole, have murdered Lord Darlyn and taken hold of his castle in Aegon’s name. He has pleaded for help to free him from their clutches, promising to join us in the fight for the Iron Throne should we succeed.”
Everyone looked at each other tensely as the letter’s contents were read to the room. Aemma felt that something was not quite right. Why would the greens ransack Duskendale? She assumed they would have tried to avenge little Jaehaerys instead. Poor Jaehaerys, the little boy, was more Heleana than Aegon, another innocent lost to this war because of Queen Alicent’s delusions, thought Aemma as she closed her eyes. Benji, seeing his wife’s distress, squeezed her thighs, trying to ground her, receiving a slight grin.
Aemma took a small breath and asked what the council was thinking, “Are we going to answer the call? This sounds like a trap…”
Rhaenyra nodded. “Indeed, but trap or no trap, we need to show the people that we will support them in their struggles and not sweep away or ignore them. I will not start my reign ignoring my people like my father…. I loved my father, but he tended to ignore his oath as a protector of the realm.”
The only one who outwardly agreed with the Queen’s statement was Daemon, who was always the one with first experience in those situations.
“Who will be sent out to liberate Lord Staunton and his people?” asked Cregan, turning to the council, asking them more than the queen.
Rhaenys raised her head proudly, “I will go in the queen’s name to liberate them; Meleys is one of the fastest and largest dragons we have.”
As Rhaenyra fully agreed, four others did not agree Jacaerys, Aemma, Balea, and Corlys. They could not deny the Red Queen’s power, but they thought it was too risky to send just one dragon.
“ Mother, I think we need to send more than one dragon… I do not doubt Meley’s power… but if Vhagar is there…having two or three dragons against one… it can ensure we finally get Aemond and avenge Luke.” Explained Aemma, knowing how to play her mother; if she saw it as the plan to get Aemond, she would be more easily influenced to allow other dragons to go and support her grandmother.
“Yes, but sending three dragons would prove too risky, princess. Should the green knights harm a dragon, it will cause the possibility of losing more allies and dragons.” countered the knight representing the Vale.
Aemma huffed; these knights have never seen dragons up close or the power of them. She understood their worries, but if they lost Meleys and Rhaenys, they would lose a significant advantage on the greens.
“Then we don’t send the dragons alone. Allow me and my men to be the ground support for the dragons,” replied Benjioct, staring at the knight, tempting him to counter back.
The Knight wisely bowed his head and returned his attention to the queen, who was trying not to smile at her good-son.
Daemon agreed, “Then, with the Blackwood knights, we need to send another giant dragon and one of our juveniles; I wil-”
“ Doar, Kepa , I will accompany my grandmother and husband. Sliverwing, is larger than Caraxes and can take on Vhagar if need be.” Countered Aemma, holding Benji's hand and quickly squeezing it.
As much as both Rhaenyra and Daemon wanted to argue, they could not; Aemma made valid arguments on why Sliverwing should go and not Caraxes. Rhaenyra nodded as she turned to Baela and Jace, the only ones with Juveniles.
Baela, noticing, quickly answered, “I will go with my cousin to protect our grandmother-”
“No!” exclaimed Daemon, “I will not send out two of my three daughters!”
Rhaenyra tried to comfort her husband, knowing that Daemon loved all three of his daughters fiercely.
Aemma rose, “We are your daughters; you taught us the Creed of Prince Baelon. You taught us how to sword fight. We are the blood of the dragon and are ready to defend our family from those trying to cause harm; you cannot stop Baela or me.”
Baela looked at her step-sister with gratitude. Aemma always had a calm fire compared to her raging fire. Aemma had enough of Daemon, Leanor, and Rhaenyra. While Baela had more of her father.
Daemon and Aemma stared at each other, neither wanting to back down. Benjicot could only move his gaze to his wife, then to the prince, and back to Aemma. He was often pleasantly surprised with how much fire his wife burned. Benji then glanced at the queen, who made eye contact with him. Rhaenyra, noticing Benjicot, could only grin, sighing as she shook her head fondly. She knew who would break first. Then, after another beat, the council saw Daemon grumble before sitting down and taking a gulp from his wine. Aemma gave a victorious smile that many people stated looked like her mother’s as she backed down and turned to her husband, who could only smile loving back at her.
Rhaenyra cleared her throat, attracting the attention back to her. “Then it's been decided: Princess Rhaenys, Princess Aemma, and Lady Baela will all go to Rooks Rest, with Lord Blackwood’s men following on the ground. My ladies and lord, I wish you a safe journey and swift victory for us. May you come back safe.”
The four stood, bowed to their queen, and then walked out to prepare for the journey and potential battle. Aemma noticed her husband walking with her to her dragon; she raised an eyebrow in confusion. She wasn’t complaining about spending time with him but assumed he would have gone to his men. Benjicot noticed his princess’s confusion and grinned but didn’t answer. As Aemma came to her dragon, she noticed that her dragon looked different. Aemma greeted Sliverwing with a rub under her chin, causing the dragon to purr in delight.
Walking towards the back, she noticed the difference. Her saddle had been replaced with a new one. It was still black and red but had little ravens etched in the sides. Her saddle was also wider than before. Aemma gasped at the beauty and turned to her husband, who let Sliverwing sniff his hand.
“Was this your doing, Ben?” questioned Aemma.
Benji smiled at her, a dazzling smile that made Aemma’s heart flutter. He walked towards her, placing his arms around her waist and pulling her closer.
“Yes, it is my wedding gift to you. I hope you like it...” Benji said as he stared into his wife's violet eyes, seeking approval.
“I love it, and it's wider… possible to allow the said lord to accompany me more on flights,” answered Aemma, staring lovingly at her raven.
Benjicot smirked before leaning closer towards her, the lips barely touching as he replied, “That was the plan, my wife…”
Aemma hmmed as she closed the gap between them, passionately kissing her husband. Benjicot answered by playfully biting her lip, asking permission to enter her mouth. Aemma allowed her husband as their tongues danced with each other, placing her arms around his neck. Both felt the fire in their bellies grow again, Benjicot growling as he continued to devour his wife in kisses. Aemma was about to unbutton his shirt when they heard a sharp cough. Aemma and Benjicot jumped and turned; to their horror, Princess Rhaenys was staring at them with a brow raised. Quickly, the couple separated from each other.
Rhaenys chuckled, “Lord Blackwood, I would assume you would be with your men preparing to depart for Rooks Rest, no?”
Benjicot gulped as he nodded. Glancing at his wife, he gave a wistful smile before turning and rushing back to camp. Aemma sighed, watching Benji leave in a hurry before smiling bashfully at her grandmother, who turned and came to her and caressed her face.
“I’m glad you and your lord husband are growing to love each other, but I need to remind you duty must sometimes come first, sweet girl. Do not get distracted, especially when going to battle.”
Aemma nodded, understanding her grandmother, as she turned to her dragon, ensuring Sliverwing was prepared. Baela later came with Moondancer, and her lips also looked slightly swollen. Aemma gave her a knowing smirk as Baela's eyes widened before turning away. Rhaenys stared at her granddaughter before chuckling again.
“Go say your goodbyes. We will be departing soon.”
Aemma turned and returned to camp, looking for her husband, bumping into Aly. As she hugged Alysanne, she asked if she had seen Benjicot, who pointed out that he had turned to his tent after preparing the men. Nodding in thanks, she walked to the tent. Entering, Aemma noticed many gifts laid out in front of the bed. Benjicot was clamping on his red cape with the Blackwood clamp, seeing his wife.
“They brought in the gifts from last night; I haven’t looked at them. I wanted to wait until you came.”
Aemma nodded before going towards him, ignoring the gifts. She straightened out his cape before taking his hand and kissing it tenderly.
“You will be careful. Don’t do anything rash, and come back to me.” She whispered, staring at her husband's eyes, who softened and stared back.
“As long as you keep your promise as well.  If Vhagar is there and it seems too dangerous, let Sliverwing roar as a signal to fall back and turn to camp,”  Benjicot replied as he placed his forehead to hers.
For a moment, a dragon princess and her raven lord stood there. Taking solace in their company before, Benjioct gave her one more kiss and walked out to his men. As Aemma followed, she saw him get on his horse, his aunt next to him, before he waved at her and commanded his men to start riding.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aemma and Baela were flying around Rook’s Rest, High enough to be safely covered by the clouds as they waited for their Grandmother and the Blackwood army to arrive. They did not need to wait long once, hearing Meleys roar and seeing the Red Queen dragon burn a lot of machines from the green’s side. Aemma squinted and noticed in anger they were scorpions. Those nasty worms wanted to use scorpions on their dragons. Aemma had to breathe; she knew the plan and would only fly down if Vhagar appeared. She saw red and black men meet green, and Aemma wondered how Benjicot was doing. Before she could wonder more, in the distance were two dragon roars, one smaller than the other. In shock, Aemma and Baela turned to see Sunfyre and Vhagar flying towards Meleys.
Aemma turned to Baela, “Let me go first. I will catch them from behind. After a moment, join us, but stay away from Vaghar. Keep your attention on Sunfyre.”
Baela nodded as she watched Aemma fly away, passing Sunfyre and Vhagar before turning around and down. As Aemma came behind the two dragons, Aemma and Rhaenys shouted Dracarys. Fire came from both sides, causing the Green brothers to swerve, trying to avoid the flames. Aemond turned to Aemma angrily as the dragon princess smirked tauntly, the same one that reminded him of Lucerys. Aemond turned Vhagar to Aemma and commanded the giant dragon to attack. Sliverwing, swifter and younger, turned away. Aegon stared at Aemma. She was here, fighting against him, but she was here nevertheless. She was so beautiful and fearless in fighting his brother. He knew his duty was to fight her, but he couldn’t as Meleys and Sliverwing continued to fight Vhagar. Aegon heard another flap close, turning he saw Baela speeding toward him. Aegon turned and shouted Dracarys, grunting as Moondancer easily dodged the flames.
As the Dragons danced and screeched a head, Benjicot and Alysanne led the assault on the ground, killing as many green knights as possible. With their arrows and swords, both Blackwoods led a bloody mess. Benjicot grinned wildly, eyes rabid, noticing Ser Gwayne Hightower and Ser Cole becoming more upset with their armies. Benjicot commanded his aunt to send another wave of arrows as he rode forward, trying to reach the two knights. Then, Screams were heard from the sky, making everyone pause and stare in horror.
Baela, at one point, flew too close to Vhagar and retreated to get away, causing Vhagar and Sunfyre to get to Meleys and rib the wings from the she-dragon. Rhaenys slipped from her saddle, and Aemma and Baela screamed in horror and anguish. Baela commanded Moondancer to fly fast, trying to reach her grandmother. Aemma made Sliverwing send fire to Vhagar, causing Aemond to turn. Moondancer scratched Sunfyre’s side when the dragon passed, causing Aegon to lose his balance and nearly slip off. Aemma, in anger, commanded Sliverwing to attack Sunfyre. When Sliverwing clamped her jaw on the yellow dragon, Aegon’s leg was close to Sunfyre’s side. Aegon let out a heart wretched yell as he and Sunfyre crashed to the ground. Aegon's last sight before blackening out was seeing Aemma's eyes filled with Hatred, and he thought, was that hatred for him? Baela yelled faster, and at the last second, she could catch Rhaenys, her grandmother’s body, crashing into Moondancer’s saddle unconsciously. Aemma breathed in relief before noticing Vhagar coming back.
“Baela, take grandmother back; let a maester or healer look at her. We need to fall back. Go!” Aemma ordered.
Baela nodded as she flew away, tears streaming down seeing Meleys’s body in flames.
Benjicot raised his head as everyone in shock stared at where the two dragons had fallen. Cole rode off to get to Aegon. As Sliverwing screeched, Benji knew that was the signal.
“Fall Back, we need to fall Back! Return to camp!” Shouted Benjicot, upset at the retreat but remembering his promise to his wife. He turned him and his aunt and led their troops back to Harenhall. It was a defeat for the Blacks but a small victory as well.
~~~~~~~~~~
Aemma reported the events to her mother. Everyone was upset at Meleys death but happy that at least Rhaenys had survived. Aemma tiredly walked back to the tent, seeing Benjicot in the tent taking off his cloak. Aemma sighed as she hugged her husband from behind.
“How is your grandmother,” asked Benji, turning to Aemma, who smiled weakly.
“She is unconscious but is expected to have a speedy recovery,” Aemma commented, leaning her head to his chest and breathing in his scent, a woody scent mixed with blood from his clothes.
“Come join me in a bath; I think we both need it,” asked Ben as he walked to the washing room, Aemma eagerly following him.
Once bathed, Aemma, only wearing a silk and robe, began looking at the gifts they had; she noticed a small green box with a card attached to it, as she began to open the letter. When one of her mother’s ladies came in. Aemma walked towards her, with Benjicot coming to stand where she was, looking at the letter; as he listened to the news of Rhaenys waking up, he could not feel joy for his wife; he felt cold, staring at the letter before him.
Aemma was overjoyed that her grandmother had awoken and told the lady that she would visit her in the morning, wanting to let her rest. She turned to Benji, smiling, but quickly lost it when she saw her husband's hardened eyes staring at the gift she had been looking at earlier.
“Ben…. what’s wrong?” asked Aemma worriedly, flinching as his angered eyes turned to her.
Benjicot closed his eyes and breathed. He did not mean to make her flinch.
“Benji…” whispered Aemma.
He opened his eyes, “What does he mean by ‘You know my heart is yours as yours is mine?” Benjicot asked, his eyes turning to hurt.
Aemma stared at her husband and then to wretched gift, for she knew who sent it…. Aegon.

Media - House Of The Dragon Character - Jacaerys Velaryon Couple - Jacaerys X Reader Reader - Y/n Targaryen (Daughter of Rhaenyra) Rating - Sad AF Word Count - 1335
Tumblr media
There were not many people at the funeral, nor was there a body. Lucerys' body was never found. Just like a real velaryon, he came from the water and went to the water. But there was no body to give him the Targaryen burial he deserved.
and only had the clothes of sweet Lucerys left.
Jacaerys stared at the large fire for a while. He had a very insecure expression on his face. Jace finally quietly moved forward. He quietly threw the clothes into the fire. Jacaerys' movements were tense and hesitant, he couldn't even stand it.
He finally took a few steps back and took his betrothal and sister by the hand
Silence reigned in the area.
Slowly but surely as the fire burnt people respectfully left to return to the painted table as discussions of the war had to continue. The sight of them leaving broke Y/n’s heart even more to think Lucaerys would be nothing more than a causality of war. But Y/n held in her tears until only Jacaerys and Y/n remained, in the setting sun with the fire dying down she let out her tears, a hand in Jacaerys the other clutching a wooden seadragon toy Lucaerys had since he was a baby,
When the fire burned down and the fire began to die out, "We should go." Jacaerys gently lifted her hand to his lips. He gave her a soft kiss while gently brushing his face against her cheek. "Lucerys will forever remain in our hearts, you will always carry a part of him with you my beloved."
"I cannot..." She muttered, "I cannot go..."
He nodded, then pulled her into his arms. "shh, shhh." He gently kissed the top of her head and wrapped his arms around her. "I'm here." He tried to comfort her. "But we can't stay here forever." He said quietly.
"I know... I know..." She whined "... I swear to the old gods, the new, the seven, the drowned, and whatever hellish gods exist in this world. I will take flight on Nightwing and I will set the red keep ablaze with every last green inside and I will not stop until King's landing is nothing but ashes..."
"I have no doubts that you will." He replied. "And I'll follow you." He kissed the top of her head once more. "Now c'mon, let's get back to the table." He whispered.
She slowly followed him inside and they took their places standing at the painted table
He put his hand on top of hers, he was trying to look calm, but his expression was actually quite nervous and tense. Many of the lords stood around the table and looked at the map. "We have to take action on the Green cunts. They took Lucerys away from us." He muttered under his breath.
"As you can see from the map, our enemies have taken many castles and many lands. There are many Green banners. We are surrounded by enemies from the Vale to The Crownlands. On top of that, the Gold Cloaks have now fully sided with the Greens, making things even worse. I'm not saying all hope is lost, but as I see it, we are in a dire situation." a lord spoke up,
"... An army no matter how large cannot defy a dragon," Y/n spoke up
"That is certainly the case, Princess. But how can we use this factor to our advantage without being massacred in our sleep? The enemies have already started to strengthen and reinforce Harrenhal and Oldtown." He looked at you with a serious look.
"... Fire can burn any reinforcements. I recommend a seige, seal them inside their castles and make no front to attack merely wait them out until their people become desperate... Then bring the dragons and set the fuckers ablaze." Y/n demanded,
When Y/n's words became clear, the entire table fell into a tense silence. Everyone looked surprised at Y/n's violent words. In fact, they were not words worthy of an innocent and pure Princess.
"Your idea is good but has one problem, the Green dragons. Vhagar, Dreamfyre, Sunfyre, and Tessarion are among them. We must not forget this."
"The dragon keepers are an order based in Dragonstone their alliance has always been to house Targaryen and to Dragonstone... Either call upon our loyal dragon keepers still within king landing walls or send some who are on a mission of secrecy," she explained her voice strained "Have them poison the dragons of the greens as they slumber" Her words where vicious and almost cruel she wanted to see these castles starve small folk, poison dragons. It was clear the innocent princess was gone this was the making of a queen a very merciless queen
The other lords remained silent once more, some even nodded. "That's true, the greens will be expecting us to attack them without thinking of that. And you're also right that their dragons are a powerful weapon we must not overlook. But, do we really want to kill the dragons, Princess?" He asked.
"I will kill everyone and everything that dares to sit below a green banner myself!" She shouted slamming her hands on the painted table and cutting her hands on the sculpted map her hands turning bloody from the impact "if I must do this myself I will..."
Many of the lords, including Jacaerys, took a couple steps back at her outburst.
"Listen, Princess, calm down. Your words have been appreciated, it's not a bad idea. We'll talk about it."
"I will not allow you to plan this war without me. To hear of mercy. To hear of agreements. Lucaerys went to storms end peacefully as a messenger and was murdered! In cold blood! I will hear nothing but fire and blood for what they have done! I will hear nothing mercy I will hear nothing of politics if blood is all they understand then blood is all they are due!"
"Calm down, calm down princess." He glanced at Jacaerys, who also came closer and gently took her face in his hands.
"Y/n, calm down... No one is talking about giving up. We're going to plan for fire and blood. Now listen, calm down." Jacaerys tried to comfort her,
Y/n pushed Jacaerys away "Fine. I will do it myself," she said hitching her dress and storming out the hall
Jacaerys quickly followed in his steps, a frustrated look on his face. "y/n, listen..." He grabbed her arm to stop her from walking away. Then his face softened. "I know you're angry and sad, I am too. But calm down, please... We have a war to win."
"I care not for a war! For battles and plans! I do not wish to fight a war I simply wish to experiment! I will not rest until they are dead and if I have to sneak myself into that castle and slit each green throat in their sleep I will!" She screamed but tears broke, her face cracked as her sadness took her over "... I can't do this... I can't..."
Jacaerys watched her, and finally wrapped his arms around her. He gently pulled her into his arms and held her close. "Ssshhh, ssshhh. Just calm down, my love." He whispered softly in her ear. "Listen... listen to me Y/n. Believe me, every word that you speak I share, I do. I feel every word of what you say. But we cannot lose ourselves to grief! We must go to war and we must do so with the clearest of minds so we can do this with the most efficiency and speed.” he explained “As much as you desire to rage we must be tactful, or more lives will be lost.” he told her, “And…” his voice cracked as his hand stroked her hair, “I have already lost Lucaerys…” He choked up tears welling up, “I cannot lose you too.” he let his tears slip, “I- I can’t Y/n… I just can’t…” He muttered as she wiped away his tears and softly gave his lips a kiss,
“I- I’m sorry Jace,”
“It’s okay, Come on. We have a war to plan.”

Sōnar Māzis// Jacaerys Velaryon x fem!oc.
Tumblr media
Summary: arriving at Winterfell was the main mission for Jace and Gaella. Cregan likes Jace almost instantly...Gaella doesn't have it that easy. She counts with Jace's support on her, but jealousy and insecurity gets on the way. Part 1, part 2 and part 3 here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was intensely cold, and Gaela's lips, her fingertips and her cheeks were freezing at every instant. If Jace was feeling the same, he certainly did not look like it. Vermax roared the second the three of them reached Winterfell, and the relief of touching the floor made the cold a bit nicer. The last week, during their stay at The Vale, Jace had been playing his part as Prince incredibly well. Gaella could see in every discourse, in every decision, in every polite glance he made his dedication to his title as Prince. He had gathered the men from the Vale, he was gonna gather the men from the North. The approval of Lord Stark was the approval of almost half of Westeros. Gaella had regretted not entering that room where Lady Arryn and Jace had discussed the war. Was this her way of helping? By standing behind the Prince and reassuring him only when he had nightmares? No, she wanted to be part of history, and Lord Cregan Stark was just that.
The place was humble, nothing rich and somehow, incredibly beautiful, leaving Gaella with no words to describe it. And so it happened, when Cregan welcomed them at the gates, the Princess was too stunned to speak.
"Winterfell for sure is simple..." she muttered. The Lord gave her a strange glance, not sure of the compliment. "Lord Stark, Winterfell is not at all like how I imagined."
"For sure it's poorer than The Red Keep, Princess. But it is the happy people and community that makes it the great land the Crown has come to visit. Seeking for help I assume..."
Jace gently pushed Gaella aside, almost instantly, pushing away someone so they didn't step on the mud. He smiled at the Lord, charming as always.
"Indeed, my Lord. Princes Gaella and I have traveled a good distance to discuss an urgent matter. The House Targaryen needs the House Stark at this moment."
"Prince Jacaerys Velaryon. You are not as I expected you to be. Sure you are serious, I just thought of you a bit..."
"Taller?" Interrupted Gaella, a playful yet nervous smirk on his face. Both men looked at her, Cregan amused, Jace annoyed.
"I was going to say blondier, Princess."
"Well, these things are amystery. My mother's hair is auburn color. And me and my siblings are blonde. Hair means little to nothing."
"Gaella," Jace stopped the girl. "I think we should talk about other matters."
"Sure... Apologies."
Cregan gave her a small smile, almost a mocking smile. And before she could realise, both men walked before her, leaving the Princess completely behind. The small talk of Lord Stark's wife made Gaella feel out of the entire mission. With a polite apology, she upped her pace trying to reach the men. They were already deep in a conversation.
"We wanted to discuss matters of loyalty, Lord Stark" you interrupted.
"I know, Princess, the Prince has already commented the same."
Gaella stared at the other boy, it was getting annoying for the young Lord and Jace could tell.
"Princess Gaella, Lord Stark was mentioning to me that there were a lot of duties he needs to attend before a proper chat" said Jace.
"But there's nothing more important than the Realm."
The Lord signed, and Jace tried his hardest not to scream at the girl. Was this her way of helping?
"Well, we are the ones interrupting Lord Cregan's duties as the protector of the North. We might as well wait."
Gaella looked at Jace looking for a signal, he could not be serious...he was the Prince of the Seven Kingdoms and Lord Stark could not put on hold some chores? But she knew better, it was a bad impression to contradict the Prince. So she left it for the privacy of the hall where their rooms were assigned.
"I wonder, what are Lord Cregan's duties? Putting salt on the neighbor's doorstep to melt the ice? Ripping of animal skins so the woman could knit their cloaks?" Gaella rolled her eyes, trying to gain a smile from Jace. She failed.
"Simple? You called Winterfell 'simple'?" He scolded her in a whisper.
"You did not let me finish."
"'Taller'?"
"He was going to question your legitimacy!" She protested again. Jace took a second not to scream.
"He was going to make a jest, Gaella."
"Well, good thing I made the jest myself, then."
That did manage to get a smile from Jace. Soft and sweet, he tried to hide it. He took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry, my Prince. I should have not commented on something so stupid. Not about Winterfell...not about you." Gaella stared at her hands, still colder than usual.
"Do not worry, Gaella. I don't need someone to point it to know who I am...what I am." He lost the smile, and he stared at Gaella's hands as he lowered his gaze.
She knew at the instant what he was talking about, and as a reassuring gesture, she stepped closer to him, put hand on his chest and searched for his eyes.
"Oh, Jace...being this short is not a problem when you own a dragon."
He pushed the girl away with a mixture of offence and amusement, Gaella laughed at him before going separate ways.
Lord Cregan asked for Jace to accompany him to some of his duties, and Gaella knew at the moment that it was a strategy from the Lord to show the future King how the North worked. Maybe he wanted his help in the future, or wanted to warn him to stay away from his Kingdom. Sure it was simple, but impressive. An ambient much sweeter and safer than the beautiful streets of King's Landing. They left Gaella, once again, behind, but she saw the people's reaction to Jace's presence. They stared with a polite and honest curiosity, no one reached to beg for money or favours, and Cregan even saluted a few of them using their names, and Jace saluted back. Oh...he was going to be such a loved king, of that Gaella was more than certain. And Baela was more than fortunate to be betrothed to the best men in Westeros.
Something that Gaella did not notice was the quiet stares Jace caught of her wherever he could afford. He looked back at her, she was listening a bit impatiently to the men trying to impress her, or maybe she was listening to the woman sharing their daily lives and gossips, and the children staring at her silver hair and fancy jewelry. He could also hear the men getting confused at Gaella's smart responses to the flirting, the laughter of the woman as she gave them her opinion, or the children's awe at her narrations of the Targaryen's history. How much he had missed her soulmate.
At supper time, the girl was styled by the Lady Stark's maidens, and, unable to dress her in southern fashion, Gaella accepted to put on a simple gown, with a simple hairstyle that made her natural curls and snowy hair shine at the light of the candles. When she entered the room, Jace's chat with Cregan got lost in the wind. They stood in the presence of the Princess, Jace being the first one when he, indeed, was not required to stand before her.
"My Prince..." Cregan called him. The boy turned back at the Lord. "May we sit?"
He had stared for too long, and Gaella was confused and blushed by that point.
"Sure. Let's eat."
The music soundsd calmly as a background, never distracting enough, and Jace took the opportunity to sell Team Black a bit more to the Lord. Gaella decided to do the same, with the people around her, hoping they would pressure the Lord in case of future doubts. At a certain point, a melody crossed the room, a special tune. Gaella recognised it at the instant and Jace did as well. They locked eyes, and for an instant they were kids again, in their dull dinners with Lords, hoping for an opportunity to cross words. Jace excused himself before standing up, signing to Gaella to stand with him.
"I hope you got better at this, my Prince...I did not" Gaella whispered to the Prince's ear. He smirked.
"Let me lead."
She tried her best, but still, she stepped on him multiple times. The people around decided to join in but the couple did not notice. Jace's smile was contagious, and Gaella blushed and giggled every time she felt trip. They would quote the instructions learned as kids, disagreeing with a few of them.
"How much I have missed this, Jace" confessed the girl.
"Maybe as much as I have missed you."
When the dessert was announced, the people started to leave the dancing, and Jace and Gaella found a sign, that they should concentrate again on their major task.
He kissed the back of Gaella's hand, led her back to the table and with a polite apology, he suggested Lord Cregan to swap seats on the dining table, leaving Gaella to sit beside the Lord and Jace beside his lady wife.
"What are you doing?" Gaella whispered at a moment of chanting and movement.
"I have talked enough with him today. Now it's your moment to try and show your charms."
And so Gaella did. A bit nervous at the beginning, Lord Cregan seemed to forgive her clumsiness and comments about his land, lending his ear to Gaella's discoveries made that day. She managed to make him smile in genuine amusement, with the gossip of the woman close to his castle, retelling stories that House Stark got wrong about the Hightowers and Targaryens, anecdotes of Jacaerys being a kid on the Red Keep and his fantasies of becoming a secret knight on tournaments. She even taught him how to say "winter is coming" in Valyrian.
And at those giggles being shared, Jace started to feel a pang of jealousy, and he felt even dumb for having the idea of putting them together in the first place. The most beautiful woman of the Seven Kingdoms with the most important young men in Westeros. He tried hard not to show it, but...his urge to finish his cup of wine was a showing, and Gaella caught it but did not understand it.
"Thank you for letting me have a second impression with Cregan, Jace" Gaella spoke behind the Prince right before he could lock himself in his room.
"I am more than sure you got what you wanted..." his tone was desperately trying to be kind, but his dead eyes were betraying him.
"Aren't you happy we are securing the North for a lifetime?" The poor girl was losing her joy by the minute.
"Yes I am, Princess...I'm just tired, I want to call it a day." He was about to close the door.
"With all that wine you had today no wonder you feel dizzy" she cut, harshly, making sure he knew it was not a joke. Jace opened the door wider, frustration sober him up a bit.
"Don't you dare judge me, Gaella..."
"I am not."
"YES...Yes you are. Like everyone else is."
"Jace--"
"And you have no right to do so, because, just like the Hightower that you are, you pull a veil of dignity and superiority to make yourself stand out. But to get what you wanted you need to flirt and swing your hair in the right direction. And then, you have all you want."
"I can't believe you are jealous of me."
"I am...jealous." But not of her...of Cregan, but she did not need to know that.
They had a strange and painful silence. Gaella had many thoughts, and the anger she kept all that day was about to disappear forever, but then Jace decided to get drunk and speak. But Gaella was tired of arguing, of screaming to a boy she had always loved in some type of way, no matter where they were. At this point she was just sad.
"Jace...you should know it has offended me, deeply, that you did not count onme throughout the day. But what hurts...what pains me... is that you are the only person who knows me in every single way. And you see me just as a Hightower with nothing more than shallowness and manipulation skills. Just when I was begging to think the world of you."
A tearfelll down her cheek.
"You thought the world of me? That is why you humiliated me in front of Cregan?"
"Gods no!"
"I tried to get you in the conversation, but every time I did it was a mistake. At the Vale, at the gates of Winterfell, at this dinner with Cregan!"
"He liked me!"
"THAT'S NOT ENOUGH!"
"And what advice would you give me, my Prince?" Gaella's tone changed to a raging and sarcastic one.
"Can I please be respected? All those stories...all those jokes...I think it's more than obvious I will not be a legitimate monarch, and I can't keep my thoughts away from that every single day. If you loved me as much as you claim you do, you might as well leave it to rest? At least in front of others...or me."
"Well I did not know--"
"Yes you did. Just let me rest for the night, Princess Gaella. It won't sit right with me to shut my door in your face."
He stared at her for a second, letting a sight of pure deception, maybe on himself, and finally closed the door softly, almost gently. He left Gaella outside, a pity feelinginn her gut. How could someone be as foolish and careless as her? She had been a participant in that pain, as a kid and a young woman. She wanted to knock on his door so bad...but she decided to give him this one night. As a punishment, she felt unable to sleep.
And therefore, Gaella woke up from something so poor she couldn't call it rest or sleep. When she walked out of her room, she had the terrible luck of running into the one and only Jace. Eyes tired, strangely awake and proper, not at all hungover.
"Jacaerys, please--" the girl muttered, completely unprepared and with the urge to gain his strange friend back.
"I'm afraid our conversation has to wait, Princes Gaella. Lord Cregan in waiting for me."
"May I accompany you?" She asked, a tiny hope in her voice.
"I don't think the top of the Wall is a proper place for a lady."
"As you wished, my Prince..."
And so he left, Gaella behind, with her wishing to hit him and hug him. Maybe both, one after the other multiple times. What they did not know, as the Prince distracted himself with Cregan, learning about the North and listening to the story of the Night's Watch, Gaella would open a letter. A black raven, sealed with Rhaenyra's stamp informed of the terrible news. This news where read by the Princess, who abandoned her breakfast, running around the castle, begging a guard to take her to the Wall. She rode there, she cried on her way up on the elevator, alone in the cold. How could she word it? How did this happen? Poor and sweet Jace.
"Jacaerys?" She called once she reached the top, running as fast as she could in the snow. She even tripped, and she stood up again to keep on searching. "Jacaerys!"
He heard the girl, her voice getting louder. But once she saw him, she went mute.
"Gaella? I told you..." he saw her eyes, full of tears about to fall. Her mouth was upturned Jacaerys nightmare became true as Gaella finally spoke.
"Luke is dead."
"I'm glad you could join us," Daella said with a hint of mischief in her eyes as she stared down Aemond.
Aemond chuckled. "of course, I couldn't let my nephew have all the fun and the vale." he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Daella noticed the tension between the two: "Sit, make yourselves comfortable." She gestured to her couches near the hearth. "The ladies brought tea, but I figured we might need something much stronger to get through the night together," Daella said as she pushed the heavy chest in front of her bed and pulled back the carpet, dislodging a loose stone and pulling out a wooden box. "Strongwine." She presented, handing the bottle to Aemond to open. Daella quickly put everything back before settling down with the two princes. "I apologize for the lack of chalices." She said while pouring the wine into tea cups. Her robe had slid open a bit, allowing Aemond a peak at her ample breast. "It's not a problem," Jacearys reassured as Aemond rolled his eye.
They all took their respective cups as Daella tried to cut through the tension, avoiding any mention of the alliance. She asked more superficial questions, trying to get to know one another, such as when she danced with Jacearys alone. As they continued to drink through the night, the strongwine began to chip away at both their facades.
In a fit of laughter, Daella accidentally spilled her wine on herself and Jaceary's nightshirt, causing it to stick to his body and showcasing all of the chiseled curves he hid underneath. "I'm so sorry." She gasped as she tried to reach for a towel in her drunken stupor. She stumbled forward, landing in Aemonds lap. She froze for a moment, studying his face, the flames flickering on his face, making him look so inviting. Daella could feel his breathing stall as his eye flickered down to her lips and back up to her eyes. She turned to look over to Jacearys, beaconing to sit beside them.
Jacearys would have declined or even left the room, but he wasn't sure if it was the emotions of the night mixed with the strongwine or if it was just the way her amber eyes had a hold on him, but he rose from his seat and took his place beside her. "I want you both," she admitted in a whisper, looking between the two princes. The two males looked at one another in silent agreement. "Then take us," Jacearys whispered in her ear, causing Daella to lose all sense of self as she crashed her lips into Jacearys; it was a heated kiss full of urgency and hidden dark desires. Daella moaned in his mouth as Aemond began to kiss the exposed skin on her neck. Aemond explored her body with his hands tugging on her robe, exposing her pert nipples. He gently took one in his hand, eliciting another moan from her. "Such pretty moans," Jacearys whispered against her lips, and he began to lift her nightdress, exposing her slick cunt as he stared at her mischievously. He grabbed her face as he ran his fingers up and down her slit, and a gasp escaped her as he slid a finger in. No man had ever dared to touch her in this way, and chills covered her body as the two worked on the different parts of her. Daella could feel Aemond growing under her, and his hips thrust forward a bit, hoping to relieve some of the pressure that was building in his trousers. Jacearys continued to curl his fingers inside of her as he entered a second finger in search of that soft spot that made her head go blank, his trousers now suddenly feeling too tight. Della wrapped her fingers in Aemonds hair, tugging slightly as a gasp tore through her lips when Jacearys found that spot hidden inside her. Aemond groaned at her slight tugs; desperate to switch off with Jacearys, he tore her away from him. Daella hissed as Jacerys fingers pulled away from her so abruptly. Aemond pushed her back and lifted her knees, exposing herself to him as he stared at her glistening heat with desire. "I wish to touch you." She whispered, "In time." Aemond mumbled against her inner thigh as he peppered kisses along until he plunged himself into her core, lapping away like a man who had never drunk before. Her back arched in response, and Jacearys began to hold her down as he worked on her breast. Daella could feel a heat growing within her as she bit her lip, desperate to keep quiet, but with every stroke and kiss, her climax came closer. "Fuck me," She cried. The orgasm ran from the roots of her hair down to the very edge of her toes. Her thighs were shaking, her arms shaking, her entire body was shaking.
Aemond smirked in satisfaction, her slick covering his face. "Sweeter than the finest wines." he chuckled, standing to clean himself up. Daella rested her head against Jacerys chest as she tried to steady her heartbeat. His strong arms pulled her closer to him while he placed a kiss on her head.
"Take off your clothes," she said confidently, standing up. "Both of you." the two males quickly got to work removing the little clothes left while Daella removed her now-soiled night dress. The three stood bare before each other as Daella pushed them to her bed. She spit in her palms as she wrapped her hands along their throbbing cocks. Once again, the room was filled with moans and groans as Daella worked on the two princes, invoking orgasm after orgasm from the two males.
Eventually, their bodies were spent as they lay in her bed, a tangled mess of legs and limbs, with Jacearys nuzzled in her neck and Aemond finding solace amongst her breast. "We should go." Jacearys tried to reason as his drunkenness began to wear off.
"Stay," Daella commanded, gripping his arm and pulling Aemond closer. "If someone finds us here, they will question your virtue." Aemond agreed with Jacearys.
Daella sighed, her selfishness and desire winning over her logic "fuck virtue."
Joffron ahead, au idea where Joffrey and Daeron grow up together:
He hadn’t been paying attention.
Joffrey thinks that he can be forgiven for forgetting where he was and trusting in his family’s ability to overlook him when he actually needed them to. His family often forgot about him when he wasn’t in their direct line of sight.
He isn’t bitter about that fact, has had 18 years to come to terms with the fact that while his family loves him they usually have something else taking up their time. Luke’s relationship drama, Jace’s latest achievement, Baela’s latest stunt, Rhaena’s infrequent updates from the Vale, or even just the latest childhood milestone with Aegon and Viserys.
Joffrey loves his mom, his siblings, and his stepfather but being the middle child with an age gap between each set of children means that Joffrey often was left in a weird space where he was either too old or too young to participate in what his siblings were doing. It often left him with a lot of free time and little supervision and with the constant drama his family’s life has been since he was a toddler his parents are too busy putting out fires to ask why he was out so late or why he was wearing a high necked blouse in June.
Which is why he is so disgruntled that his parents freaked out over what he deemed to be none of their business. Joffrey has been ….. involved with Daeron since he was 14 and while nothing happened until he was 17 that was more Daeron’s decision than his. Joffrey has always had to coax and nudge Daeron into doing anything beyond cuddling and a few chaste kisses which might be why they are in this mess in the first place.
Joffrey hadn’t stopped to think about where they were or who was watching when he tugged Daeron into a spare room in the Red Keep after a disastrous family dinner. All Joffrey could think about was how the light from the candles and torches bounced off of Daeron’s wavy hair or how his eyes softened whenever he caught Joffrey staring at him. The need to kiss the man he loved was like a physical ache under his skin so he hadn’t stopped to scan the room to see who was looking before he pulled Daeron away.
This was a mistake as both his parents, his older siblings, uncles, and Lady Alicent all barged in on them as Daeron was working the ties to his shirt open. Joffrey had long done away with Daeron’s shirt by tearing it down the middle and casting the sides away and was kissing his lover’s neck when they were rudely interrupted.
Joffrey didn’t quite realize just how poorly his parents would take the whole event due to the aforementioned lack of supervision. He figured Daemon would rant about him being with a Hightower and mother would make threatening eyes at Daeron as she used her son’s relationship to have another fight with Lady Alicent. Instead Joffrey was greeted to stony silence and his stepfather tugging him up off of Daeron rather harshly.
He was rushed out of the room, out of the Red Keep quickly after that, barely able to get a single glance back at Daeron sitting on the ground surrounded by the Greens before Daemon and mother hustled him through the hallways and to the dragon pit. It wasn’t until they arrived back at Dragonstone that Joffrey got the first inkling that he was not going to be able to maneuver his way out of this situation.
Joffrey had always figured that when his parents did find out it would be in the midsts of a crisis that eclipsed any misgivings about his relationship with Daeron. He figured he would have to avoid and subvert the conversation for a week or two before the next family drama inevitably pulled their focus away.
This was not the case now. The family dinner had not gone well but there had been no real crisis to demand his parents attention. Standing in front of Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen now with his older siblings lining the walls like pale spectators at a tourney Joffrey felt the need to reevaluate how he was going to tackle this problem.
Of course Daemon didn’t give him the chance.
“How long has this been going on?”
As soon as the word were out of his stepfather’s mouth Rhaenyra whipped her head to stare at Daemon in mute shock.
“Surely this has not been going on long.”
It was not a question so much as a desperate grasp for confirmation and even as his mother stared at her husband Joffrey knew it was addressed to him.
In this instance Joffrey decided discretion was the better part of valor.
“We have been intimate with each other since I turned 17.”
Something flickered behind Daemon’s eyes as he stared at him. Joffrey fought the urge to fidget.
Surprisingly the next person to speak wasn’t either one of his parents but Jace.
“Aegon told me that you are Daeron used to disappear together, as far back as when you were 13.”
Joffrey stared at his brother, the firm set of his jaw and scanned the rest of his siblings. They had all lined themselves behind Jace as if they were soldiers heading to battle with Baela and Rhaena on either side of Jace and Luke slightly behind his older brother’s left shoulder.
There would be no getting out of this now/
“We’ve been …. involved since I was 14 but nothing ….. drastic until I was 17.”
Everyone turned their eyes to him at that and Joffrey struggled to keep his eyes fixed on the way his mother’s braid trailed over her right shoulder the ends almost touching the red embroidered dragon by her waist.
“You’re too young.” His mother’s feeble voice caused him to glance at her eyes. The worry and even slight regret inflamed Joffrey’s temper that had slowly built on the the journey back to Dragonstone into a roaring fire.
“I am a man grown,” he grit out, and before he could stop himself spat “it is far to late to start meddling in my affairs now mother. Maybe 5 years ago you would have been successful but not now.”
His mother stared at him with a deep hurt swimming in her violet eyes, but before she could utter a word Daemon voice chilled the room:
“You would pick that Hightower runt over your family.”
His next words came out closer to a dragon’s roar than anything human.
“HE IS MY FAMiLY! When the squires would wait after training to ambush me Daeron was the one who saw to my bruises and showed me how to fight back against multiple opponents so they would never get the better of me again! When that Pentoshi merchant made remarks about how I’d make a fine bride and tried to force some foul ale down my throat Daeron was the one to threaten to geld him should he ever so much as look at me!”
With each sentence his parents and siblings seemed to shrink and press away from him to the outskirts of the room, but that only added fuel to the fire as more words burst forth.
“He was the one who came up with me on my first flight with Tyraxes. Daeron was the one to sneak me sweets and insist I take the maester’s concoctions when I was sick three winter’s ago. Daeron was the one to”
“ENOUGH!” His mother’s voice pierced through his tirade:
“Enough Joffrey.” Her voice was worn like a pierce of cloth made translucent after too many washes. She was crying, and suddenly Joffrey realized he was crying too:
As his mother approached him with hands outstretched towards his wet cheeks it all became too much. Joffrey felt outnumbered and overwhelmed like he had stood too close to the Sept’s bells as they rung and now his whole world was vibrating.
Before his mother could touch him he turned and fled through the hallways and back to his typical quarters in Dragonstone. He barred the door and pressed his shaking hands to his face and he sun down to the ground.
Joffrey stayed there on the ground as his family came and banged on his door. He heard his mother shouting for the guards before Daemon convinced her to let him be. Eventually his family petered off after there was no response from Joffrey for hours.
Eventually a single bright line came in the guise of a letter slipped under his door before the hour of the wolf. He broke the blue wax seal embossed with two twirling dragons. He scanned the letter quickly before standing up and casting it into the fire. As the parchment was consumed by flames Joffrey wondered if mother and Kepa’s Valyria wedding robes were still in the trunk in his mother’s solar.
Fire and Salt chp 14
🌕 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕
YN sits at her mother's council
🌕 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕
Masterlist
YN always enjoyed seeing the map table lit up. Watching the fire below light up the pieces and places like flowing fire enchanted the girl whenever she saw it. YN knew this wasn’t an occasion to enjoy the lit table, but she still admired it nonetheless. YN rested one hand on the table and looked up from it to see her mother walking into the room surrounded by her guards. YN smiled at her mother for a brief moment as her step father announced her to the room of people her mother would call her court.
“Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men. Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm,” Daemon announced and everyone followed with a bow to the rightful Queen. “Your Grace.”
YN was in between her two brothers, one hand on the table and the other resting on Luke’s nervous back. She knew he would feel overwhelmed and inadequate at an official meeting of mother’s court so she offered her touch to comfort him. YN looked around the room and saw that her grandmother and Baela stood next to each other.
Rhaena came up to Rhaenyra and held a cup out to her. “Wine, my queen.”
Rhaenyra took the cup and thanked the girl, offering her to come up to the table with her, also signaling Baela to come with her to seat at the table. There was an air of silence in the room as everyone looked to Rhaenyra to do something. YN watched her mother with questioning eyes and wondered what she was to do first. YN wanted to call out for an attack on Kings Landing, they had the greater dragons, save for Vhagar, and the more support for the queen. YN knew what the common folk thought of her mother. What they thought of her. Many wanted YN to be heir instead of Jace but she stood firm in her decision to place Jace on the throne.
“What is our standing?” Her mother started.
“We have 30 knights, a hundred crossbowmen, and 300 men-at-arms,” Daemon explained. “Dragonstone is relatively easy to defend, but as an instrument of conquest our army leaves a lot to be desired. We have sent word to my loyal men in the City Watch. I’ll have some support there, but I cannot speak to the numbers.”
“We already have declarations from Celtigar and Staunton, Massey, Darklyn, Bar Emmon,” The Maester spoke.
“My lady mother was an Arryn,” Rhaenyra spoke up. “The Vale will not turn cloak against their own kin.”
“River run was always a close friend to your father, Your Grace. With Prince Daemon’s acquiescence, I’ve already sent ravens to Lord Grover.”
That did not seem to sate Rhaenyra, YN swallowed her tongue at what she wanted to say about their position and what she thought they should do. Knowing her anger and want to burn Kings Landing was mostly from her anger at Aemond’s betrayal of her once again.
“Lord Grover is fickle and easily swayed. He will need to be convinced of the strength of our position and that we will support him should it come to war,” Rhaenyra said.
“I’m going to treat with him myself.” Daemon explained.
Steffon Darklyn spoke up next, “What of Storm’s End and Winterfell?”
“There has never lived a Stark who forgot an oath. And as I hear it he has sent a betrothal request to Princess YN. If she accepts we have a stronger claim with them beyond us,” Bartimos spoke, looking at YN who stared at her mother. “And with House Stark the North will follow.”
“Lord Borros Baratheon will need to be reminded of his father’s promises,” Rhaenyra explained. Watching as one man placed a figure on the table then as YN handed Jace a figure for him to place on Duskendale. She then turned behind her to look at Rhaenys. “What news from Driftmark?”
“Lord Corlys sails for Dragonstone,” Rhaenys spoke up for the first time.
“To declare for his Queen.” Daemon loudly said.
“The Velaryon fleet is in my husband’s yoke,” Rhaenys explained. “He decides where they sail.”
“We shall pray for both you and your husband’s support. Just as we prayed nightly for the Sea Snake’s return to good health. There’s no port on the Narrow Sea would dare to make an enemy of the Velaryon fleet,” Rhaenyra said before turning back to the table. “And our enemies?”
“We have no friends among the Lannisters. Thailand served the Hand too long to turn against him. And Otto Hightower needs the Lannister fleet.” YN watched her mother’s expression as she listened to Daemon .
“Without the Lannisters, we are not like to find any allies west of the Golden Tooth,” Rhaenyra responded.
“No,” Daemon paused for a moment. “The Riverlands are essential, Your Grace.”
There was a pause in the room, YN wanted to speak about the common folk, how she could rally them against the greens and take Kings Landing back. She knew many of the small folk looked to YN for many things and many would do anything for the Princess. But she held her tongue. There were not many on the court who thought of the small folk and did not see their value. But YN did and when she had the time she would tell her mother that she could rally them for her.
“Pray forgiveness for my bluntness, Your Grace, but talk of men is moot. Your cause owns a power that has not been seen in this world since the days of Old Valyria. Dragons.” One spoke up making the room think of the power of the dragons.
“The greens have Dragons,” Rhaenyra explained but she was cut off by Daemon.
“They have three adults by my count. We have Syrax, Caraxes, and Meleys. Your sons and daughter have SeaSmoke, Vermax, and Tyraxes. Baela has Moondancer.” Daemon listed.
“Daemmon, none of our dragons have been to war.” Rhaenyra countered.
“There are also unclaimed dragons. Verminthos and Silverwing dwell on the Dragonmont, still riderless,” Daemon continued. “Then there are the three wild dragons, all of whom nest here.”
“And who is to ride them?” Rhaenyra asked. YN looked behind Rhaenyra and noticed someone coming in. She wondered what could be needed now.
“Dragonstone has 13 to their 4. I also have a score of eggs incubating in the Dragonmont,” Daemon said, then walking around the table. “Now… we need a place to gather, a toehold large enough to house a sizable host. Here, at Harrenhal. We cut off the west, surround Kings Landing with the dragons. And we could have every green head mounted on spikes before the fucking moon turns.”
YN never usually agreed with Daemon but she was pleased to hear what she wanted. She wanted to surround Kings Landing call the smallfolk to rally against the greens, have place each of their traitor heads on spikes.
“Your Grace…” Ser Erryk came back in. “A ship has been sighted offshore: a lone galleon flying the banner of a three headed green dragon.”
“Alert the watchtowers. Sight the skies.” Daemon demanded and grabbed his sword.
YN saw her mother leave the room with Daemon. She knew the greens were sending someone to demand her mother and them all bend the knee to Aegon. She would never, not for anyone. Lucerys turned to YN, but she never betrayed a look of worry. She merely brought a hand to his cheek and rubbed her thumb up and down. She knew her family would call to war and they needed all the allies they could get. So she made up her mind as she looked in Luke’s eyes that she would send a raven to Cregan Stark and accept his proposal.
~~~
When her mother returned, YN had already sent the raven to Lord Stark. She now waited for the right time to tell her mother. Now she stood near her mother as they discussed the terms the greens had sent. Her mother declaring she would not rule over a kingdom of ash and bone. No matter how many times Daemon had said they had the greater number of dragons.
“My father’s dead. And he chose me as his successor, to defend the realm not cast it headlong into war.” Rhaenyra said, countering Daemon’s claim.
“Well, the enemy have declared war. What are you gonna do about it?” Daemon demanded.
“Clear the room.” Her mother ordered. YN looked to her mother with questioning eyes. Rhaenyra gave her hand a squeeze before whispering for her to leave, that it would be alright.
Rhaenys came up to her granddaughter and guided her out of the room. YN spared one last look at her mother before leaving. She knew her mother and Daemon would have this fight. Her mother was not as hot headed as Daemon, and not as blood hungry for war.
YN did not want to seem blood hungry. She did not want the smallfolk to suffer a war caused by them. But she was so angry. She wanted revenge for this slight against her mother, for the betrayal of Aemond once again. Her friend, the one whom she still cared about no matter how angry she got with him betrayed her. He was planning on usurping the throne. And he had the nerve to pretend he wanted her. Maybe he did but she was not someone you crossed. YN spared a look to her grandmother before walking toward her brothers.

A Passion of Ice and Fire
Pairing: Jacaerys Velaryon/Cregan Stark
Chapter 2: Luke confronts his brother about his strange behavior and learns something about him in the prosses. Can the brothers make it through this?
(cw: internalized homophobia, period-typical homophobia)
When they made their way through the doorway of Luke’s bedroom, Luke quickly closed his door and locked it so that no one could catch him trying to figure out what was making Jace so nervous.
“So, what actually happened on your visit?” Luke inquired.
“I don’t know what you’re-"
“Don’t give me that Jace, I know you better than that.”
“I’m simply tired from flying so far.” Jace attempted in his defense.
 “I’ve greeted you from flights just as long if not longer, you have never acted this way before.” Luke countered.
“Fine,” Jace relented, sit down.”
Luke took a seat next to him on the bed. “What happened?” Luke asked, starting to worry.
“Do you remember the things people used to say about Sir Leanor?”
“Of course I do, but what does that have to do with your trip to Vale and….” the dots began to connect in Luke’s head “... Winterfell?” “Jace? You’re…. You…. With who?!” Luke yelled, before remembering that people could hear them. “With who Jace?”
Jace laid still for a moment, “Lord Cregan Stark” he muttered so softly it took Luke a moment to register who it was. Luke’s silence was only furthered by this revelation. Jace felt his lower lip start to quiver while his brother stared at him blankly. He leaned back against the headboard as tears brimmed his eyes.
“Oh Jace,” Luke said, finally catching up with the situation. “I... I’m sure it will be okay. You know this changes nothing between us, you are still my brother, my closest friend. And you will remain so until I breathe my last breath.” Luke said as he placed a hand on Jace’s shoulder. Jace could not hold back his emotions any longer. He began to sob softly, letting the tears flow down his cheeks and on to Luke’s tunic. Luke had pulled his brother into a tight hold. He understood the fear and the pain Jace was feeling. He was not entirely sure how he was going to help, but for now all Jace needed was love and support. After a few minutes Jace’s sobs let up and he lifted his head looking at his brother.
“I’m sorry….I’m just not sure what I’m going to do. Who can I tell?” Jace questioned, he could not speak about this to just anyone.
“You can speak to mother about this.”
“You do not think she will be angry.”
“How could she be angry?” Luke answered. “Sir Laenor was attracted to other men, she has said many times that she loved him.”
“But that was different. Sir Laenor was her husband, not her son.” Jace protested.
“How is that any different”
“She has to say she loved him for our sake and for political reasons. What if she lied and she secretly hated him for being that way?” Jace said, more tears coming to his eyes.
“Mother wouldn’t do something like that, and you know it. She loved him and she loves you. This won’t change anything.” Luke reassured Jace.
“I just don’t want her to hate me.” Jace whispered and began to cry again.
“She could never hate you, Jace.”
“Are you sure?”
“Why would I lie about such things?”
“That is true.” Jace resigned.
A long pause dwelled in conversation. Luke took this as an opportunity to lighten the mood and gain more information. “So how is Lord Stark?”

When Fire Meets Fate
Tumblr media
Part 11
Request: Yes or No
Officially putting this series on hiatus!
~~~
While a war had yet to officially break out, everyone knew it was inevitable. Neither side would give up without a fight. Preparations were made and the Painted Table was lit for the first time in many years. Candles were lit and slipped under the table, the glow of the fire illuminating the carved map. (Y/N) gazed over the table as pieces were set across it, only looking away when his wife entered the room under her new title.
"Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, and the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm," Daemon announced as everyone bowed their heads to her, himself included. (Y/N) watched the uncertainty that passed over Rhaenyra briefly, her gaze drifting around the room. As a princess, she'd been given much attention, mostly lords and ladies attempting to get in the good graces of her father. But now, she was queen and everyone looked to her for guidance instead of mere approval. She stepped forward, pausing and looking back at the guards escorting her. Rhaenyra lifted her hand, motioning for them to stop, and turned back, stopping again when Rhaena offered her wine.
"Thank you, Rhaena," Rhaenyra spoke softly, nodding for her to join her on her walk to the table. She nodded for Baela as well and set her cup down, looking over the map and inhaling deeply. She looked up at her husband and he stared back, quirking at brow at her silence. When she realized they were all waiting for her, she swallowed and glanced back at the map."What is our standing?"
"We have thirty knights, a hundred crossbowmen, and three hundred men-at-arms," Daemon answered, glancing at (Y/N) with a small frown. "Dragonstone is relatively easy to defend, but as an instrument of conquest, our army leaves much to be desired. We have sent word to my loyal men in the City Watch. I'll have some support there but I cannot speak to the numbers."
"We already have declarations from Celtigar and Staunton, Massey, Darklyn, and Bar Emmon." The maester listed off as the men present bowed their heads in turn. Jace retrieved the pieces and began setting them across the map to show their allies. Rhaenyra nodded and lifted her hand to point.
"My lady mother was an Arryn. The Vale will not turn cloak against their own kin."
"Riverrun was always a close friend to your father, Your Grace. With Prince Daemon's permission, I've already sent ravens to Lord Grover." The maester piped in again and (Y/N) looked toward Daemon who avoided his eyes.
"Lord Grover is fickle and easily swayed. He will need to be convinced of the strength of our position and that we will support him should it come to war." Rhaenyra pointed out and Daemon nodded.
"I am going to treat with him myself."
"We should look toward Winterfell as well as Storm's End. Starks are known for their loyalty and rarely- if ever- do they break oaths. House Stark could prove to be a strong ally and if they're with us, so is the North. However, Lord Borros Baratheon did not bend the knee when Her Grace was declared heir, his father did. He is someone who will likely need to be convinced but it'll be worth doing if he becomes an ally." (Y/N) spoke up and a knight set a piece above Winterfell. Rhaenyra nodded to herself, growing confident in her new position. Her eyes lingered over one of the names and she turned toward Rhaenys.
"What news from Driftmark?"
"Lord Coryls sails for Dragonstone,"
"To declare for his Queen?" Daemon tilted his head, earning a frown from the older woman.
"The Velaryon fleet is in my husband's yoke. He decides where they sail." Rhaenys reminded the man and Rhaenyra nodded, sighing softly.
"We shall pray for you and your husband's support. Just as we prayed nightly for the Sea Snake's return to good health." Rhaenyra told her pointedly. "There's no port on the Narrow Sea that would dare make an enemy of the Velaryon fleet." Rhaenyra turned back to the table and cleared her throat. "And our enemies?"
"Without a doubt, not a single Hightower will support our cause, kin or not, and Tylan Lannister has stood by Otto Hightower for far too long to turn against him which means the Lannister Fleet is at his disposal. Without the Lannisters, we are sure to have no friends west of Golden Tooth." (Y/N) answered, gazing down at the map as enemies were marked.
"The Riverlands are essential, Your Grace," Daemon muttered.
"Pray forgive my bluntness, Your Grace, but talk of men is moot. Your cause owns a power that has not been seen in this world since the days of Old Valyria. Dragons!" One lord piped in and Rhaenyra glanced at him, gaze casting over those present.
"The Greens have dragons as well-"
"They have three adults, by my count. We have Syrax, Caraxes, and Meleys. Your sons have Vermax, Arrax, and Tyraxes. Baela has Moondancer." Daemon interrupted, drawing a glare from Rhaenyra.
"None of our dragons have been to war."
"There are also unclaimed dragons. Seasmoke still resides on Driftmark. Vermithor and Silverwing dwell on the Dragonmont, still riderless. Then there are the four wild dragons, all of whom nest here."
"And who is to ride them?"
"Dragonstone has thirteen to their four. I also have a score of eggs incubating in the Dragonmont." Daemon retrieved a piece and made his way around the table. "Now, we need a place to gather, a toehold large enough to house a sizeable host. Here, at Harrenhal. We cut off the west, and surround King's Landing with dragons. And we could have ever Green's head mounted on spikes before the fucking moon turns." He explained, placing the piece in hand on Harrenhal. The same castle that had seen Harwin's death. (Y/N) wrapped his fingers tightly around his wrist at the thought of going to such a place.
"Your Grace, a ship has been sighted offshore: a lone galleon flying a banner of a three-headed green dragon." The knight, Ser Erryk, revealed as he approached them. Rhaenyra turned to look at her husband as Daemon gave off instructions and walked away. (Y/N) moved around the table and stood beside his wife.
"If I see my father, I fear I will not be able to hold my anger. You must go and show you will not back down. Otto will have your head, regardless if you do as he says or not. He is not afraid of having others get their hands dirty for him." (Y/N) spoke to her quietly and Rhaenyra nodded, placing her hand over his before stepping away to deal with the traitors.
                    ✶        ✶       ✶       ✶       ✶       ✶
Gazing down at the table, Rhaenyra held a distant look in her eye. The page Alicent had sent her, a memory from their youth, had shaken Rhaenyra. One couldn't simply turn on someone they'd loved once so dearly. But she couldn't forget the betrayal of naming Aegon as king. (Y/N) watched his wife as planning and discussion continued.
"It's no easy thing for a man to be a dragonslayer. But dragons can kill dragons. And have. The simple truth is this: we have more dragons than Aegon." Daemon continued his idea, the plan he'd conjured without their input. His behavior toward them after the passing of King Viserys had considerably soured (Y/N) view of him.
"Viserys spoke often of the Valyrian histories. I know them well. When dragons flew to war... everything burned. I do not wish to rule over a kingdom of ash and bone." Rhaenyra asserted coldly, her growing irritation with her uncle beginning to spill over.
"Are you considering the Hightowers' terms, Your Grace?"
"As Queen, what is my true duty to the realm, Lord Bartimos? Ensuring peace and unity? Or that I sit the Iron Throne no matter the cost?" Rhaenyra questioned, earning a scoff from Daemon.
"That's your father talking."
"My father's dead. And he chose me as his successor... to defend the realm, not cast it headlong into war."
"The enemy have declared war! What are you going to do about it?"
"Everybody out!" (Y/N) bellowed suddenly, slamming his palm into the table and even making Ser Erryk flinch slightly from his outburst. The lords and knights quietly shuffled out of the room, leaving the couple and Daemon alone. The silver-haired prince paced before the fireplace, glancing toward his friend every few steps. (Y/N) closed his eyes for a moment and turned to look at Daemon, taking slow steps toward the man. "You are mourning your brother, I know that. I've mourned a brother too long ago. But you are allowing your anger to guide your tongue-"
"I am not-"
"Do not interrupt me whilst I am speaking, Daemon!" (Y/N) shouted at him and the prince narrowed his eyes but fell silent regardless. Inhaling deeply and moving closer, (Y/N) continued, "I understand you wish to act as quickly as possible to avenge what happened to Viserys and to help your beloved niece take back what was stolen from her. But I refuse to stand by as you challenge us, unknowingly or not. I care for you, Daemon. Years ago prior to coming to Dragonstone, I wouldn't have given a damn if you passed away in battle. But now I do. You're my family and I know you care for me as well. It is why I've allowed you to speak out of turn, to speak down to us. You have more experience and knowledge of battles, I acknowledge that but Rhaenyra is your queen now and you will treat her as such. Because as much as I care for you, you are not the only man we know with experience who is willing to help us. Question Queen Rhaenyra publicly like that again... and you will be replaced. Have I made myself clear?"
Staring into his (E/C) eyes, Daemon clenched his jaw, exhaling through his nose and nodding. "Very clear, My King." He muttered lowly and stepped away, walking away from the two and retrieving Dark Sister. He looked back at them over his shoulder before exiting the room. (Y/N) watched him leave, feeling Rhaenyra place a hand on his back.
"You've done well by me, Husband. Not many can threaten my uncle and live." Rhaenyra murmured, hand slipping from his back to his cheek. She smiled softly at him and leaned forward, resting her forehead against his. "There is something I must tell you... it is one of the reasons I hesitate on war."
"What is it?"
"The Song of Ice and Fire," Rhaenyra whispered, glancing toward the door and sighing softly. "When my father named me heir, he told me a prophecy Aegon the Conqueror had. He claimed that the property foretold the coming of a winter so deadly it ended the world of men. He said to survive, all of Westeros needed to be united and a Targaryen needed to sit the Iron Throne. He had me swear an oath to keep this secret and I am sharing it with you now because I know you will not share it with anyone."
A soft breath escaped his lips and he reached up to touch Rhaenyra's cheek. "And you believe this prophecy?."
"I know it sounds like nonsense but the way my father spoke about it... I believe that sooner or later, this winter will descend upon Westeros. I cannot allow myself to plunge the kingdoms into war and leave a broken mess for Jace and Luke to mend whilst battling a deadly winter." Rhaenyra told him softly, resting her hand over her husband's and releasing a soft sigh. "The future children of our sons deserve a peaceful future, regardless of whether this prophecy is true or not."
"I understand, Nyra. Whatever you decide, you will have my support."
                    ✶        ✶       ✶       ✶       ✶       ✶
Standing beside his wife's chair, he listened to what felt like endless arguing between lords. Rhaenyra leaned back in her chair, absentmindedly listening to them, mind filled with worries and plans. The couple still needed to decide on what to do; risking war or accepting the terms. Both choices would have consequences. Dire consequences that could result in bloodshed regardless of what Otto claimed. His father's words couldn't be trusted, even if he said to be a messenger for Queen Alicent.
"The Lord of the Tides!" Ser Erryk announced loudly, drawing the couple from their thoughts and toward the doors as the man entered, cane in hand. The sight of him brought Rhaenyra to her feet, a soft gasp leaving her. "Lord Corlys Velaryon... and his wife, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen."
Lord Corlys entered the room with a limp, his neck heavily bandaged but his strength could not be doubted. Rhaenys stood beside him proudly and their granddaughters followed behind them, both looking equally relieved and pleased to see their grandsire back on his feet. "My lords." He greeted them hoarsely.
"Lord Corlys... It brings much relief to see you hale and healthy again." Rhaenyra spoke softly, smiling at the man. Lord Corlys studied her for a moment, gaze briefly shifting onto (Y/N).
"I'm very sorry about your father, Princess. He was a good man." Rhaenyra's gaze turned down when he regarded her with her old title but Lord Corlys' attention had turned toward his granddaughters as they took their places beside Jace and Luke. Glancing at his wife, he limped toward the table and swept his gaze over the room. "And where is Daemon? I am aware he's quite close to you both."
"Prince Daemon is attending to other matters at the moment." (Y/N) answered and Lord Corlys hummed, moved around the table, and studied the map, taking note of allies and enemies.
"Your declared allies?"
"Yes."
"Too few to win a war for the throne." He pointed out, lifting his eyes toward the couple.
Rhaenyra stepped forward, clearing her throat. "Well, we would also hope to have the support of Houses Arryn, Baratheon, and Stark."
"Hope... is the fool's ally," Lord Corlys said bluntly and Rhaenyra glanced back at the map, pursing her lips slightly.
"Both Arryn and Baratheon share blood with my house. But all of them swore oaths to me."
"As did House Hightower, if I remember correctly." His gaze flickered toward (Y/N).
"As did you, Lord Corlys." Rhaenyra's reminder made the man fall silent, his eyes meeting his wife's before he turned and gazed upon his granddaughters and their stance beside the two Velaryon boys. He nodded lightly and looked back at Rhaenyra.
"Your father's realm... was one of justice and honor. Our houses are bound by common blood and common cause. This Hightower treason cannot stand." Lord Corlys voiced. Rhaenyra's brows furrowed at his wording, glancing back to her husband. "You have the full support of our fleet and house, Your Grace."
"You honor me, Lord Corlys." Rhaenyra breathed and when Lord Corlys looked toward his wife, they knew Princess Rhaenys had much to do with his decision. Turning to look at the woman, Rhaenyra nodded with a thankful smile. Inhaling, Rhaenyra gazed over the map with a more relaxed figure. "But, as I said, to my bannermen, I made a promise to my father to hold the realm strong and united. If war's first stroke is to fall, it will not be by my hand."
"You do not mean to act?"
"Taking caution does not mean standing fast. I wish to know who my allies are before I send them to war." Rhaenyra responded, watching him step closer. Lord Corlys nodded along to her words, looking back down at the Painted Table.
"The consequence to my... near-demise in the Stepstones is that we now control them. I took care to fully garrison the territory this time. A total blockade of the shipping lanes will be in place in days, if not already. The Triacrhy have been routed. The Narrow Sea is ours." Lord Corlys revealed. Rhaenyra's eyes widened and she glanced around at her supporters, releasing a breath of relief. "If we... further seal the Gullet, we can cut off all seaborne travel and trade to King's Landing."
"I shall take Meleys and patrol the Gullet myself." Princess Rhaenys said, coming to a stop beside Rhaenyra and nodding to her in support.
"When we drain the Narrow Sea, we can surround King's Landing, lay siege to the Red Keep, and force the Greens to surrender." Lord Bartimos offered his plan but (Y/N) stepped forward, gazing down at the table.
"While that plan may work, we first need enough men to surround King's Landing and those men can be provided to us through Winterfell, the Eyrie, and Storm's End." (Y/N) chimed in, turning his eyes onto the maester who bowed his head in turn.
"I'll prepare the ravens."
"We should bear those messages," Jace spoke up, pulling his parents' attention away from the table and toward him. "Dragons can fly faster than ravens and they're more convincing. Send us." He explained, holding his mother's gaze.
"The Prince is right, Your Grace." Lord Corlys agreed, turning to look at the two.
Rhaenyra looked at her husband and met his eyes, brows, and lips twitching. Her eyes told him enough of her concerns but when he gently wrapped his fingers around her wrists and nodded, she inhaled deeply. "Very well. Prince Jacaerys will fly north. First to the Eyrie to see my mother's cousin, the Lady Jeyne Arryn, and then to Winterfell to treat with Lord Cregan Stark for the support of the North. Prince Lucerys will fly south to Storm's End and treat with Lord Borros Baratheon. We must remind these lords of the oaths they swore. And... the cost of breaking them."
With that, the room dispersed and Rhaenyra headed up to one of the many balconies after writing the messages as their sons prepared for their departure. (Y/N) joined her on the balcony, placing his hand over hers and staring out at the sea. Their sons would be heading off into the world as man-grown, helping them on their quest. But (Y/N) couldn't shake the lingering feeling that something was wrong.
"I believe we'll garner the support of House Stark and House Arryn. House Baratheon worries me. Lord Borros is not exactly an easy man to sway and the fact he himself didn't swear oath... He'll use that as reasoning enough." (Y/N) muttered quietly, turning his head to look at his wife. Rhaenyra looked down at the letters in her hands and sighed.
"We must have faith." She whispered and (Y/N) sighed, looking back out at sea. Rhaenyra turned around as the boys approached them and she smiled softly. "It's been said that as Targaryens, we are closer to gods than to men. And the Iron Throne puts us a touch closer, perhaps. But, if we are to serve the Seven Kingdoms, we must answer to their gods. If you take this errand, you go as messengers... not as warriors. You must take no part in any fighting. Swear it to me now under the eyes of the Seven." Ser Eryyk stepped closer with the book, extending his arms forward.
"I swear it." Luke reached out first, resting his hand on the book as he spoke. (Y/N) turned around to look at them, swallowing down the worry bubbling up in his chest.
"I swear it." Jace followed after a moment of hesitance, resting his hand on the book as well.
"Thank you." Rhaenyra nodded to Ser Erryk and stepped forward, looking down at the letters. "Cregan Stark is... closer to your age than he is mine. I hope that as men you can find some common interests."
"Yes, Your Grace." Jace took the letters from his mother, safely tucking them away.
Turning her attention away from her eldest and onto Luke, Rhaenyra took in the worried look on his face. "Storm's End is a short flight from here. Lord Borros is an eternally proud man. He will be honored to host a prince of the realm and his dragon. I expect you will receive a very warm welcome." Rhaenyra assured, placing the letter in Luke's hand and smiling fondly.
"Yes, Mother- Y-Your Grace." Luke stammered, ears turning a soft pink.
"Do not freight if they prove to be stubborn. Your safety is much more important to us than their support." (Y/N) said, stepping forward and reaching out to touch Jace's arm before looking down at Luke. "Come home safely. That is all I ask for."
"We will," Jace assured and placed a hand on Luke's shoulder, smiling widely at his brother. Luke returned the smile and nodded to his father before Rhaenyra dismissed them, watching them walk away. As they walked, Jace spoke to his brother, lightly shaking his shoulder and smiling down at him. They could only assume it was an attempt at easing Luke's anxiety regarding his flight. It'd be his first time traveling alone without his brother or parents to guide or protect him. Jace had been born with the ferocity and confidence of his mother. A headstrong, stubborn young man. But Luke... Luke reminded (Y/N) so much of his sister. Kind, soft-hearted. A sweet boy in a cruel world.
"They will be... They will be alright." Rhaenyra whispered to herself, tilting her head toward the sky and blinking away the tears forming in her eyes. Breathing out through her mouth, she nodded to herself and stepped toward the stone railing, resting her palms against it. (Y/N) inhaled and stood beside his wife, pleading with the Mother to bring his boys back home safely. He closed his eyes and made one last silent plea to the gods above before opening them and watching Arrax and Vermax take to the skies alongside Meleys. (Y/N) watched Arrax take a turn, breaking off from the trio first and disappearing into dark storm clouds. The two waited until Vermax and Meleys disappeared from view before stepping away from the balcony, reaching for each other's hands as they returned inside.
Only a day or two had passed with no word from either of their sons. The feeling in (Y/N)'s chest had intensified, leaving him unable to find much sleep at night as he stayed up, gazing toward the balcony in hopes of seeing the outline of dragons approaching. Rhaenyra had similar issues although she'd been able to get at least a few more hours of sleep than him before they forced themselves out of bed and to the Painted Table for more planning.
The Hightower could only stare blankly at the table, offering input when asked and dismissing the worries of his wife. His gaze lifted from the soft glow of the table when Rhaenyra placed a hand on his shoulder, attention directed toward her uncle who walked toward them with a glum look on his face. (Y/N) straightened up, holding Daemon's gaze as the men stopped before them. The silver-haired prince glanced at the other lords, reaching out a hand to touch (Y/N)'s arm and leading them toward the fireplace to speak privately.
"I have received..." Daemon began but found himself unable to continue whilst looking at them. He turned away and faced the flames of the fireplace, taking in a deep breath before continuing. "I have received word from Storm's End that... that parts of Arrax have washed up onshore. Lord Borros states a dispute had occurred between Prince Aemond and Prince Lucerys before both princes' departed. It is to be believed Prince Aemond killed Prince Lucerys."
(Y/N) felt his vision spin, feet staggering backward as he took in Daemon's words. The prince quickly steadied the man, muttering his apologies to the couple. Rhaenyra stumbled forward, lifting a hand toward Daemon when he attempted to reach toward her. Her lips parted, watery eyes staring into the flames, and hands coming to rest on her abdomen. She nearly doubled over, sobs beginning to shake her shoulders violently. (Y/N) could hardly breathe, feeling as if his lungs were being squeezed for every last drop of air. He leaned forward, resting his hand on the stone wall and taking in breaths, holding a clenched fist to his chest as the tears fell from his eyes.
Leaning in, Daemon whispered to the grieving man, "An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys shall be avenged."
Daemon walked with jacaerys to the garden he began to speak without turning to him, "House dunn while being a minor house resides on some of the most vast flower lands in the reach." Jacaerys turns his head towards him, confused. "All the major or minor houses don't realize that any flower display of basket they get most likely was supplied from the fields of house dunn. Did you know that the rose bushes in the keep were supplied by house dunn many years ago." It's not a question more so a statement and all jacaerys can do is stare at him.
"I'm sorry I'm a little confused, why are you-" "I've always felt it's important to pursue what you want." Daemon finally turns to him, "i was….. forced into marrying young. Like you. I'd rather you have a better marriage than mine was."
Jace had heard bits and pieces about Daemon's first marriage, how he was sent away from the keep very young to marry an older lady in the vale. He realized what daemon was saying, "Thank you…" He placed a hand on his head before walking away.
Jacaerys didn't even realize they had made it to the door in front of the garden. He could hear the chatter of many ladies and lords but now there was only one he wanted to talk to. As he entered the garden many people greeted him and he donned a fake grin and he scanned the crowd.
There you are, also looking at him and he feels a real smile grow on his face. He should go greet you, it would only be polite. He moves towards you, greeting people along the way but he notices you walking away with the older man on your arm.
He feels himself getting irritated, why are you moving away? Before he could think anymore his brother tapped on his arm, "You're looking rather angry brother." He looks at him in shock, is it really showing in his face? Lucerys eyes you and he begins to laugh, "Are you yet to greet her brother?" He gives lucerys a blank look, "I have no clue what you speak of. I have been busy greeting many guests. Is there someone in particular you mean."
Lucerys pouts, "Don't be like that jace." Lucerys thinks before his eyes light up, "I have an idea." Oh no. Lucerys gives him a mischievous grin, "You continue to greet guests, I shall bring her to you, then you two can be alone ." "What-" before he can ask lucerys is already off on his way to follow you and the old lord.
Maybe this isn't so bad, he does want to talk to you. Jacaerys continues to make rounds continuing to look around looking for his brother and the beautiful girl that wont leave his mind.
There you are, on his brother's arm and he greets you. The color you wear now suits you well, its longer dress hitting your ankles, it's clearly an older dress not made for you but it suits you so well it doesn't matter to him. There's a look of reluctance on your face that he wishes would disappear as he offers you his arm, he admires you from the corner of his eye while you four walk. Lucerys soon leaves, taking Joffrey with him and he's finally alone with you. He asks you about the garden and he notes your eyes light up when he asks you, you clearly enjoy flowers. There's a small silence that feels you as he deliberates what to ask you, there's a nagging voice wanting to ask you a million questions about flowers to quench his years of curiosity regarding flowers.
As he builds up the courage to ask you to get interrupted and you leave quicker than he can blink. He felt a small ache in his stomach as he watched you leave, “Oh I'm sorry, I hope I wasn't interrupting anything.” Cassandra quickly tries to get his full attention, with fake concern, but he is not fully there and doesn't notice the fakeness in her tone. “No of course not lady cassandra.” Her smile grows and he feels a little sick looking at her overly happy face, “Then would you mind accompanying me around the garden, it's so large and I fear I may get lost.” His mood sours, all he wishes to do is find you but he knows that this whole event is being thrown for him and he needs to give everyone a fair chance.
The two begin to walk and he engages in conversation with her, his mind drifting back to you and wondering where you could be as he scans the open area and not seeing you. Clearly he wasn't alone in these thoughts, “I thought I told you to watch her.” “I was!” “Then where is she?!?!” he hears the loud whispers of your parents, he leads cassandra towards them and her face sours. “Is something the matter?” Your mother turns to him in a shock while your father has a more content look on his face. “Of course not my prince-” “Have you seen my daughter it appears she ran off somewhere after walking around with prince lucerys?” Your mother gives him a fierce glare at your fathers honesty. Worry fills him as he stares at the two of them his face turning grim, “I was accompanying her and showing her around the garden, she soon left and i have not seen her since,” the look on her mothers face sours though he does not comment on this, “i have not seen her since i apologize.”
Cassandra was clearly not happy about standing there listening to this and her face makes that clear but he can't be worried about that when all he can worry about is you. It's easy to get lost in the garden, he had plenty of times as a kid. “I can go look for her-” “You shouldn't my prince we don't wish to worry you-” “I know this garden like the back of my hand, it is not an issue to me, plus i wish to know that she- i wish to keep all my guests safe of course.” It's easy to almost let his words slip but he catches himself.
He turns to lady cassandra whose face is sour and clearly upset, “I'm sorry my lady but I must go.” She frowns and sighs, “Of course my prince.” She turns to leave, “I shall own you a dance tonight as an apology.” Her face brightens up and she smiles, “Of course my prince I would love to.” He walks off barely caring about her reply and searches for you.
He roams around the garden and skillfully avoids all the people who wish to stop him with polite words and smiles as his eyes frantically search around for you, soon enough he sees you laying on the ground and all he can think is the worst as he calls you names and rushes over almost tripping. As he realizes you're alright he feels like he can breathe again. A genuine smile graces his face and it feels nice after all the fake ones he’s given all day. Once you are all, all he can do is stare at you in wonder as your disheveled look as you brush yourself off, he thinks you look gorgeous. You two begin to walk as he feels the question he’s been longing to ask burning on his tongue. What if you think him to be strange, a man liking flowers is odd, unheard of. He doesn't want you to think he’s strange, especially since everyone probably already does this would only make it worse.
Yet he asks and he’s so happy he does, you seem so happy to talk about flowers and all he can do is stare as you rant about them, he loves the glow that shines in your eyes as you tell your story, he loves your laugh, it sounding better than any melody he’s heard. He laughs along with you. As the conversation falls flat he wishes to continue and attempt to come up with something else but he comes up short. You two are soon interrupted again and in fear you may run away again he tries to tighten his hold on you yet it does not work as you slip away from him once again and all he can do is stare at your retreating form. He turns back to the girl who has a satisfied smile on his face and he rolls his shoulders before greeting her. What a long day this will be.
Blue Blood pt.3
Tumblr media
(pt.1)(pt.2)
Summary: After the turmoil at Driftmark, King Viserys attempted to mend family divisions by arranging a marriage between Alicent's son, Aemond Targaryen, and Rhaenyra's daughter, Lucenya Velaryon; when King Viserys died and the Greens and the Blacks war began to unravel, the arrangement fell through. On the brink of war, Lucenya was sent to Storm's End as an envoy. Aemond didn’t plan on letting his bastard bride slip through his fingers one more time. She’d owned him for his left eye.
warnings for this chapter: none for now.
In the dimly lit chamber of Dragonstone, tension crackled in the air like the lightning that danced beyond the windows. Jacaerys paced back and forth, his normally composed demeanor shattered by the recent events. The journey through the Vale and the North had left him visibly changed; the weight of responsibility and the raw anger of the past days had hardened him. His boots thudded against the stone floor, a rhythmic reminder of his pent-up frustration and anxiety.
Rhaenyra stood before the Painted Table, her face a mask of fury as she clutched the letter in her hand. Their shadows cast long shadows that danced ominously on the stone walls. The thunderous roars of a distant storm seemed to echo the turmoil within her. Daemon, standing beside her, watched silently.
The letter, written in Lucenya’s delicate handwriting, was filled with words that belonged to Alicent. It was a demand for Rhaenyra; to bend the knee to Aegon and recognize him as king, ending the war. The underlying threat was clear, and Rhaenyra’s fury was barely contained.
“They dare use my daughter against me,” Rhaenyra hissed, her voice a fierce whisper. “Alicent’s words in my Lucenya’s hand. I will not stand for this.”
The room was filled with silence again.
Having stepped back after reading the letter, Daemon watched the scene with a measured expression, leaning in at the heart. His presence was a calming anchor amidst the storm of emotions that swirled around the chamber.
Jacaerys stopped abruptly, turning to face his mother. “We can’t just wait and do nothing. I need to act—I need to do something now!”
Daemon’s eyes, cold and unyielding, met his. “This is not a time for reckless action. Any mistake could cost Lucenya’s life.”
Jace’s frustration was evident in his voice, his words tinged with desperation. “But we can’t just sit here while Aemond and the Greens plot against us. They’ve attacked our family!”
Daemon stepped forward, his voice calm but firm. “We must be strategic. Our goal is to protect Lucenya and use this situation to our advantage.” his eyes moved to his wife, cautiously approaching her. “But we must act quickly, Lucenya might not have too much time.” Daemon looked at her expectantly.
Rhaenyra’s fury was palpable. Any chances of reconciliation between the two branches of the family were gone.
“I want Aemond’s head.” She declared quietly. “He should pay for what he did to my daughter.” Her eyes fixed on the elaborate table in front of her.
Daemon grinned discreetly.
{...}
Lucenya lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, the ache in her wounds dulled by the numbing salves applied by the Maester. She constantly thought of her mother and brother, longing for their comforting presence. The words she was forced to write filled her thoughts with anxiety. Could her mother think she was betraying her?
As the Maester worked on her wounds, Lucenya could feel Aemond’s eyes on her. He was always there, silent and watchful, his presence a constant reminder of her captivity. She knew she was recovering quickly, and as much as she wanted her strength back to plan an escape, she feared what would happen once she was able to stand on her own. Aemond seemed to be waiting for that moment, ready to claim her as his bride and bring her into Aegon's court.
The Maester finished his work, carefully bandaging the last of her injuries. He stood, gave Lucenya a brief bow, and then turned to Aemond, who had been standing in the shadows, his face unreadable.
"She is healing well, my prince," the Maester reported. "Her fever has broken, and the wounds are closing. She should regain her full strength in a matter of days."
Aemond nodded, his gaze never leaving Lucenya. "Thank you, Maester. You may leave us."
The Maester bowed and exited the room, leaving Lucenya alone with Aemond. She felt a shiver of unease as he stepped closer to her bed, his expression still blank.
Lucenya’s mind raced. She needed to play her cards carefully, to bide her time until she could find a way to escape. She couldn’t afford to show too much strength or defiance yet. She lowered her eyes, trying to appear more vulnerable than she felt.
"How do you feel?" Aemond asked, his voice surprisingly gentle.
Lucenya swallowed, her throat dry. "Better," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Aemond nodded, reaching out to gently caress her face. The touch was surprisingly tender, but it did little to ease her fear. "Good," he said softly. "I will have the maids draw a bath for you."
He turned and walked to the door as Lucy watched him, her mind a whirl of thoughts and emotions. She needed to find a way to contact her family. But for now, all she could do was wait and hope that an opportunity would present itself.
Later that evening, Lucenya sank into the steaming bath, the warm water enveloped her aching body, and the medical herbs in it offered a brief respite from the constant throbbing pain. The maids worked diligently and quietly around her, their hands moving with practiced ease as they tended to her. Despite the soothing warmth of the bath, her mind was tumultuous, drifting through the painful memories of the attack.
She recalled the moment her dragon, Arrax, had plummeted from the sky and the desperate, jarring impact of the sand beneath them. The world had seemed to collapse into a blur of noise and sensation. Through the confusion and pain, she recalled the fear and agony she felt.
But amid those memories, there was also a strange, unexpected detail. The recollection of Aemond's presence during that time. She had been so vulnerable, her body battered and broken, yet his hands had been surprisingly gentle as he lifted her from the wreckage. His touch had been careful, almost tender, in stark contrast to the anger and hostility that had led them both to that situation.
As she rested in the bath, the warmth of the water did little to ease the tumult of her thoughts. Aemond's presence was a constant, unspoken reality in the room. His eye, she could feel, were always there, watching her from a distance. It was a sensation she had grown accustomed to.
She realized that, in some odd way, she didn’t entirely mind his presence now. He had witnessed her at her most vulnerable when she was suffering and helpless, when she was on the cliff of death. It was a state of being that had stripped away all pretense, leaving her raw and exposed. And in those moments of utter vulnerability, there had been a part of Aemond that had acted with a surprising degree of care, even if he - or his family- were the cause of her distress.
Lucy found herself wondering about his thoughts, and what he saw when he looked at her. Did he see the same vulnerability she felt? Did he recall the moments of tenderness he had shown her amidst the chaos? Or was he merely a predator, focused on the prize of his conquest, indifferent to the other people involved?
The warmth of the bath was both comforting and unsettling, a momentary escape from the harshness of her reality. As she closed her eyes and let the water soothe her aching body, she couldn’t help but think that perhaps there was a sliver of humanity within Aemond, a part of him that might yet be reached. It was a dangerous hope, but amid her situation, it was one she clung to.
Lucenya's thoughts were interrupted by Aemond's voice. "Leave us," he commanded the maids, his tone leaving no room for argument. They hurriedly finished their tasks, bowing slightly before exiting the room, leaving the two of them alone.
Aemond moved closer, his presence dominating the space. He stood at the edge of the tub, his intense gaze fixed on her. Lucenya met his eyes, a hint of defiance and appreciation in her own. The silence stretched between them.
"Aegon has ordered you to be presented in his court," Aemond finally said, his voice low and measured. "Before our wedding."
Lucenya's heart sank at his words. The thought of standing before Aegon and his court filled her with dread. She knew it was a display of power, a way to show the realm that they held Rhaenyra's daughter captive. It was a calculated move, designed to humiliate her mother and weaken their side in the war.
"I don't care what Aegon wants," Lucenya said, her voice steadier than she felt. "I won't be paraded around like some trophy."
Aemond's expression remained blank, his eye locked onto hers. "You don't have a choice," he replied, his tone devoid of sympathy. "This is the reality of your situation. The sooner you accept it, the easier it will be."
Lucenya clenched her fists under the water, feeling the anger simmering within her. "You think this will break me?" she asked, her voice tinged with bitterness. "You think parading me around in front of your brother's court will make me submit?"
Aemond's gaze softened, just for a moment. "This isn't about breaking you, Lucenya," he said quietly. "This is about survival. For both of us."
She looked away, the vulnerability in his voice unsettling her. "Survival?" she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. "Is that what you think this is?"
Aemond stepped closer, his hand reaching out to brush a strand of wet hair from her face. His touch was gentle, "You are a valuable asset," he said softly. "But you're also more than that."
Lucenya felt a pang of confusion at his words, the conflicting emotions swirling within her. She wanted to hate him, to see him only as her captor. But there was a part of her that couldn't ignore the moments of tenderness, the glimpses of a man who was more than just a ruthless prince.
"You'll be presented in court," Aemond continued his voice firm once more. "And then we will be wed. This is the path that has been chosen for us."
Lucenya met his gaze again, her eyes searching his for any sign of weakness. "And what if I refuse?" she asked, challenging him.
Aemond's expression hardened, a flicker of frustration crossing his features. "You won't," he said simply. "Because you know what's at stake."
She wanted to argue, to defy him, but the reality of her situation was inescapable. Although being in Aegon’s court also meant the opportunity to contact her family could present itself, maybe she could find her mother’s supporters in the shadows. Lucy needed to be patient.
"I hate you," she whispered, the words escaping before she could stop them.
Aemond's eye darkened, but he didn’t flinch. "Perhaps," he said softly. "But hate won't change our reality."
Lucenya noticed the faint blush on Aemond's pale cheeks when he caught a glimpse of her collarbones. It was a small detail, but it revealed more than he probably intended. For a moment, she understood the effect she had on him. Beneath the layers of hostility and control, there was a human vulnerability that he couldn’t completely hide.
She shifted slightly in the bath, the movement drawing his eye back to her. "Does it bother you?" she asked, her tone calculatedly soft. "Seeing me like this?"
Aemond’s gaze snapped back to her face, the blush deepening slightly. "It does not matter," he replied, trying to sound unaffected, but the tension in his voice betrayed him.
"It matters," Lucenya countered, her voice gaining strength. "To you, it matters."
Aemond looked away, his jaw tightening. "You should focus on recovering," he said, sidestepping her question. "Your presence in court is important."
She leaned back, letting the warmth of the water soothe her aching body. "I'll recover," she said, her eyes never leaving his. "But don't think for a moment that I'll make this easy for you."
He met her gaze again, the intensity in his eye mirroring her own determination. "I don't expect it to be easy," he said. "But you will do what is necessary."
Lucenya held his stare, a silent challenge passing between them. She was beginning to see the cracks in his armor, the conflicted emotions he tried so hard to suppress. It gave her a small measure of hope, a belief that she could use those vulnerabilities to her advantage.
As Aemond turned to leave, she called out to him one last time. "Uncle," she said, her voice stopping him in his tracks. "Why are you doing this?"
He hesitated, his back still turned to her. "Because it's the only way," he said quietly, before walking out of the room.
Lucenya watched him go, a mixture of anger and curiosity swirling within her. She didn't know what the future held, but she was determined to face it with strength and cunning. For now, she would play their game, biding her time and gathering her strength. But she would never forget who she was or the family she fought for. And one day, she would find a way to turn the tables on her captors.
«On the old gods and new»
Few weeks passed since Princess Alyssia, along with her brother Prince Jacaerys, flew away to rally support for their mother. Young Prince brought support of the Vale while the Princess was said to have charmed the harsh heart of the Wolf of Winterfell. After all Alyssia possessed otherworldly to northerners Valyrian features and a bold spirit.
During the visit to the Wall, a raven brought somber news to the young Prince and Princess. Lucerys Velaryon was murdered by Aemond one-eyed in the sky above the Storm’s End.
“What?...” — a half whisper escaped Alyssia’s lips, as the news settled in her mind.
“His is gone, Aly.. Aemond.. he..” — Jace stumbled on his words. There were no “right words” for these. No way to sweeten nor soften the news.
Alyssia’s hands dug deep into the frozen ledge, eyes staring far upon the frozen wasteland. She had once pitied Aemond. She had lost count how many time she scolded Jace and Luke after mocking him, not mentioning all the altercations with Aegon. Perhaps he was always monster or it mattered little now.
Jace slowly approached her, placing his hand on hers. She did not protest.
“Fucking Coward” — she said, voice cold as century-old ice — “Next time it will not be an eye he loses, but his heart. I’ll cut it myself. For that I swear Jace”
Hot tears melted away freshly fallen snow. Bitter wind cut deep inside with its blows. The grief will have to wait. The cold emptiness will replace sorrow but not before the burning rage. The pain of loss was dangerous, one wrong step and it would’ve devoured her at once. Like snake’s poison, it would’ve infected her mind. Anger, on the other hand, brought strength and determination. She will grieve, once she feels drops of blood from her uncle’s heart on the tip of her dagger, once she feels th heat the dragon’s flame had swallowed The Storm’s End. Then she will fall apart, let the sorrow take over. But right now her family needs her.
They stood there in silence and not a living soul dared to interrupt the silent vigil.
The Dragon and The Raven
Chapter 5: The Dragon Princess and Her Raven Lord.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter Summary: Jacaerys did not believe that the Lord of House Blackwood was the best for his beloved sister. It is too bad that Aemma has fallen deeply for the Lord of Raventree Hall, and nothing will stop her from getting her way.
Please let me know your thoughts :)
Keep track of the story: masterlist
Word count: 3215
Jacaerys looked at the lord, to whom his sister insisted on being betrothed. Lord Blackwood looked like he had just come out of a duel. Sweat dripped down his face, his hair was messy, and his clothes were wrinkled and muddy. Benjicot knew that even though he had Prince Daemon’s blessing, getting Prince Jacaerys' approval was just as important.
Benjicot bowed and addressed the prince, “Prince Jacaerys, let me be the one to welcome you to the Riverlands and Harrenhall.”
As Lord Blackwood made his statement, all the men from House Blackwood followed their lord in bowing, leading the North and the Vale men to bow as well. Grinding his teeth, Jace couldn’t help but admit that the lord was respectful and was a natural leader. Not wanting to seem rude but also not wanting to give the impression of approval, Jace merely nodded his head. When this happened, Princess Aemma was frowning; she did not need a Daemon 2.0 to try to intimate her betrothed. Aemma turned to Baela, who winked while shaking her head. Ugh, Men, they both thought.  Thankfully, before another awkward moment passed, Daemon cleared his throat.
“Jace, Baela, come, first unpack your things at the tents before we start making any…foolish decisions.” Commanded Daemon as Jace frowned at his stepfather, but he knew better than to argue with the Rouge Prince and followed him to the tents where they would be staying.
As people began to leave, Aemma walked to Benji, smiling at him. She took his arm and kissed his cheek. Benji returned the smile as he led them towards his tent.
“Your brother doesn’t seem to like me…” stated Benji, as they entered his tent, leading the princess towards the bed.
“Jacaerys is a dragon, and dragons are very overprotective with what they love, but he will come around, I'm sure of it,” stated Aemma as she unraveled her braids.
Benji hummed as he decided to sit next to her and help the princess undo her braids. Aemma couldn't help but close her eyes. His fingers were like magic, easing the tension she had. Before she could stop herself, a slight moan slipped from her lips as she whispered.
“ You truly have a talent with your fingers…” Aemma stiffened, as did Benji once those words were spoken. The phrases had two meanings, and Aemma didn’t want him or anybody who might have heard them to misinterpret them.
Benji huffed with laughter as he finished undoing her braids and kissing the top of her head. Which in turn made Aemma huff and turned to glare at him.
“It is not funny, Ben!” she exclaimed as she lightly slapped his chest.
Benji laughed even louder as he pulled the princess to his chest and brought them down on his bed.
“Oh, I thought it was hilarious, my dear Aemma.”
Aemma leaned on his chest, staring at his eyes as she playfully glared at him. Benji looked down and could not help but feel warm inside. He never thought his life would be played out like this, being betrothed and falling desperately fast in love with a dragonriding princess. Aemma sighed and placed her head on his chest, drawing small circles on his chest, the two peacefully enjoying their silent company. Soon, all the events that had happened the last few days finally caught up with them as they lulled themselves to sleep with the sound of breathing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once Jace set himself up with his tent, he quickly checked on Baela, who told him she wanted to take a quick bath because she reeked of a dragon. Then he went to his sister’s tent only to find it empty. Before he continued his way to look for her, he was summoned by Daemon. Walking into the tent, Jace saw his stepfather sitting behind a desk, reading some letters with a cup of wine. Daemon looked at the restless boy, giving him an unimpressed brow as he waited for Jace to sit. Once Jacaerys noted that his father would not speak until he took a seat before him, he sighed, sat on the chair, and tried to raise a brow back.
Daemon chuckled, “Now, son, what brings you to Harrenhall and away from your beloved mother’s side? Hmm.”
Jace blistered, “I came here to convince my sister out of her foolish decision to get engaged.”
Daemon shook his head; his little dragons were an overprotective bunch, each taking the creed of his father Baleon and protecting each other fiercely, sometimes a little too much. Which was more than he could say his brother Viserys ever did for him. Daemon took a swing of the cup before answering his stepson.
 “Our Aemma can be many things, but she has never been the one to make foolish decisions. The boy is a fierce fighter, and his armies will greatly benefit your mother’s fight for the iron throne,” explained Daemon, watching Jace's face turn sour with each word.
Jace knew this path would be long, especially since his stepfather seemed to approve of the Lord of Raventree Hall. It would be harder to separate Aemma from him because whatever Aemma wanted, Daemon provided.
Jace sighed. As he stood, he faced his father. “I will see for myself, but if I don’t like him, my mother has permitted me to break the betrothal if I am not impressed.” Jace bowed before turning to leave, only pausing once he heard Daemon call out.
“Do what you must, but remember never at the expense of potentially harming your sister.”
Jace nodded as he continued walking, determined to find his sister even more. Daemon sighed as he rubbed his face. His children would be his death.
Jace continued walking, looking through the sea of gray, red, and black, trying to find a princess and lord but having no luck. While wandering, he found Cregan Stark as he was speaking to a woman wearing House Blackwood colors. When both noticed his presence, they paused and gave a quick bow. Jacaerys laughed and hugged Cregan, who was like a brother to him.
“Cregan, it's good to see you again. How was your journey south?” Jace asked as he grinned at the Wolf of Winterfell.
“Long and humid Jace. I’m sorry, lady Aly, but the Riverlands are much too humid for my taste,” stated Cregan as he stared at Aly Blackwood, who laughed.
“No harm done, Lord Stark. I sometimes find the Riverlands too much. Good day, Prince Jacaerys. I’m Alysanne Blackwood, but you may call me Aly.” Aly introduced herself to the dragon prince.
Who in turn smiled, wondering how close she was to Benjcot Blackwood.
“Yes, it is pretty humid for my taste as well; I prefer Dragonstone’s winds to this,” Jace answered before turning to Aly. “Well Met, Lady Aly Blackwood, pray tell me who you might be to the Lord of House Blackwood?” questioned Jace.
“I am his lady aunt, my prince,” explained Aly, confused about where the conversation would go.
Jace nodded and looked around again, searching for a sign of his sister, but again, to no avail. Cregan and Aly turned to each other, guessing who he was looking for. Jace noticed their questioning stare.
“Have you both seen either the Lord of Raventree Hall or the Crown Princess?” questioned Jace, staring at the two.
Cregan and Aly shared a secret look, both shaking their heads no,
“No, but let me look for them, my prince; I will bring them to you once I have found them,” replied Aly as she turned and walked away from the prince.
Alyssanne walked towards the main Blackwood tent, chuckling at the sight before her: her nephew and the princess warmly embraced. As much as she hated to wake them, she knew Prince Jacaerys would blow a fuse at the current sight. Aly walked to them and quietly shook the princess awake.
“My princess, you must wake up quickly….please, princess,” Aly loudly whispered, feeling relieved once the princess opened her violet eyes.
Aemma sharply gasped, seeing Aly in her face, and accidentally dug her elbow into Benji’s stomach, causing the young lord to groan and wake from his slumber, then also sitting up, noticing his aunt.
Aly shook her head; these two would be the death of her. “Princess, you need to go to your tent. Your brother is looking for you both and will not be pleased seeing what I saw. Go on now quickly from the back.”
Aemma nodded as she stood, quickly pecking Benji in the space between his cheek and lips, and walked out. Benji sighed, fully waking up as his aunt glared at him.
“I would rather not have my nephew turn into dragon food, Ben; you must impress Prince Jacaerys as much as you did with her father.” Explained Aly as she asked a maid for a bath to be ready. Alysanne walked towards the entrance before turning to her nephew. “Take a quick bath and meet us outside, please.’”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aemma quickly walked toward her tent, making sure no one noticed her, when Baela walked out of her tent, giving her a mischievous grin.
“Well, well, dearest sister, where are you coming from in a hurry? Hmm, from a certain lord who happens to wear a house color similar to ours?” taunted Baela.
Aemma playfully rolled her eyes, pushing her away and walking to a steaming bath awaiting her. Aemma turned to her sister in thanks as she began to undress and walk in the tub, sighing as she felt the boiling water ease her sore muscles.  Baela sat behind her and began to wash her hair.
“Jace was looking for you..” started Baela as she reached for the perfumes.
“Yes, so I have been told,” whispered Aemma as she began to wash her body.
“You need to be more careful, sister. Our father may have given his blessing, but Jace has special permission from your mother to reject the union if he doesn’t like Lord Blackwood. He already has a closed mindset, thinking that you should marry Lord Stark instead.” carefully explained Baela as she finished washing Aemma’s hair and walked to the main room to take out a beautiful, lightweight red dress with black accents.
Once Aemma came out, she took the dress from Baela and began to dress herself, letting her sister tighten the corset laces. Baela paused, analyzing her sister. Luke’s death took a toll on everyone but more on Aemma and Rhaenyra; both women had dark circles under their eyes. But now, Aemma looked glowing, her skin and hair shining, bringing out the true Valyrian beauty bards loved to sing about.
“So tell me of Lord Blackwood, what did this lord do that many others couldn’t?” asked Baela, noticing Aemma’s blush.
As Aemma spun her tale from the first meeting at his hall to Sliverwing, allowing him to fly on her and the duel, Baela began to see that her sister was falling for the young lord.
“You are falling in love with him…” stated Baela as she went in front of Aemma.
Aemma sighed wistfully, “Earlier this week, I would have denied it, but now, I truly believe I have fallen, and he is with me.”
Baela was glad that, as much as this union would be best for their family, having Aemma find love in it was the best outcome. Baela embraced her sister.
“I’m glad… Jace will try to find faults, but I can tell there are none. I will support you in enlightening him.” Aemma grinned but noticed Baela wanting to say more.
“Have you told him about you and Aegon?”
Aemma inhaled sharply at the words, walking away from Baela.
“There is nothing to tell; it was a stupid promise two naive children made, nothing more; Benji has nothing to worry about.”
Baela sighed; she knew bringing up Aegon would upset Aemma, but she also knew how far the greens would risk believing in their delusions.
“ I still think you should tell him. You know how cruel Aegon is, and he will probably try to cause a stir once he finds out about your relationship,” explained Baela, taking hold of Aemma’s hand.
Aemma sighed; she knew what Baela had said was true, but she did not want to worry Benji. Young Aemma didn’t know about the vipers of the court or what kind of monster her uncle would have become. She couldn’t love someone who enjoyed tormenting servants and her poor aunt Heleana. Furthermore, she definitely couldn’t love someone who celebrated her brother’s death. The Aegon that Aemma made a promise to was an illusion, an idea, and not reality. Benjicot was ten times the man that Aegon could only hope to be, and truth be told, Aegon never had her whole body sing like when she was with Benji.
“I’ll think about a way to explain it to him; for now, I need to focus on Jace accepting Benji and making sure our betrothal continues.” Aemma decided as she and Baela walked to the feast hall.
Everyone stood when they noticed the two princesses walking in, Baela sitting between her father and Jacaerys. Jacaerys had Cregan next to him, and a spot opened next to Cregan. Aemma noticed this and rolled her eyes at her brother’s blatant plan for her to sit next to the Stark. Noticing Benji farther down with his aunt, Aemma grinned and walked towards them. Jace, in confusion, watched as his sister whispered something to Alysanne who then stood and walked towards Cregan and took the seat next to the winter wolf. Aemma turned, smirking at her brother, and sat next to Benjicot, keeping eye contact as she kissed the Blackwood lord's cheek. Jace huffed in annoyance, much to the amusement of everyone else.
 As the feast continued and more wine was consumed, people joked around and made numerous toasts. The hall quieted once a brave and drunk Blackwood knight stood, swaying a little as he raised his cup.
“A toast to the Sea Dragon Princess, The realm’s pearl, Crown Princess Aemma, for nearly beating our lord and showing us the true power of the dragon. Our House will thrive under you and our lord’s rule!”
All the men started cheering, whistling, and cracking jokes as the princess blushed at the words spoken to her. Benji smirked and whispered something into her ear that had caused the princess's blush to darken. Jace sniffed at the sight and was surprised once he saw Cregan stand up, raising his cup.
Cregan grinned at the couple making the toast, “The greens will have a hard time with the likes of Princess Aemma and Lord Blackwood on our side. A toast to the Dragon Princess and her Raven lord; may they strike fear into our enemies' hearts!”
Everyone cheered at the words of the Winter Wolf as Jace stared at his friend in shock. As the feast ended, everyone went on their way. Jace, noticing his sister leaving with the young lord, followed them, asking Cregan to accompany him. Aemma led her betrothed to where the dragons were resting, wanting to spend time with Sliverwing. As Jace watched, he was surprised to see how welcoming the she-dragon was to the lord.
Cregan looked at Jace and sighed, “Jace, I think you should give it a rest; Benjicot is a good lad, and he will make a fine husband to your sister.
Jace glared, “So would you, Cregan; my sister should have at least considered you before making her rash decision.
A joyous laugh broke their conversation as both turned to see Aemma laughing and trying to move Sliverwings' snout from Benjicot’s chest, who was laughing on the ground and being knocked down.
“I love Aemma but only as a sister. Besides, Benjicot has expressed how much he will give up for her. Your sister runs too hot for my taste, and I don’t enjoy my feet leaving off the ground. While I run too cold for your sister, she loves to soar far too much to be stuck on the cold floors of the north. Benjicot fits with your sister; he doesn’t get burned from her heat but welcomes it; he took flight like his ravens. There is no better man for her than him.” explained Cregan, hoping Jace saw what he saw.
Jace, staring at his sister, knew Cregan was right, but still, “We could have been brothers had you married my sister.”
Cregan shook his head, chuckling,” We are brothers. We made the blood pack, and nothing can change that, but forcing marriage on your sister would not bring us closer. Give your sister your blessing and let her marry her lord.” Cregan clapped his hand on Jace’s shoulder as he returned to his tent.
Jace sighed; he knew everything everyone had said was true; as Baela made her way to him, he kissed her hand and walked towards his sister. Aemma, noticing her brother, quickly helped Benjicot stand.
“Brother, I hope you are not here to sour my mood,” questioned Aemma as she raised her eyebrow.
Jace shook his head, “Not at all, dear sister, Lord Blackwood, I want to express my blessing to my sister's hand. I will send a raven to my mother, letting her know my decision, and expect her in a week for your wedding.”
Aemma was shocked, “a week? I’m not complaining, but isn’t it way too fast?”
Jace explained what their mother said: because of the war, it was better to have a fast wedding just to be safe. Aemma nodded while taking Benji’s hand and leaning into his side. Jace stated that Baela and, hopefully, Lady Alysanne would help with the maiden and marriage cloaks. He also noted that the day would have three separate ceremonies: One in front of a weirwood tree in the ways of the north, one of the faith, and the last being a Valyrian one. Aemma scoffed at the faith ceremony but knew it had to be done. They could not risk the Greens declaring her marriage invalid. As the group separated, Aemma and Benjicot walked to the princess’s tent, stopping at the entrance.
“As much as I wish for you to stay with me, I don’t want to risk the ire of my brother or father,” whispered Aemma as she stared into her betrothed eyes.
Benji smiled, understanding; Jacaerys barely gave his blessing, so it was best not to push it.
Aemma reached up to give a sweet kiss before asking, “Are you truly fine in marrying me in a week?”
Benji caressed his beloved's face as he returned the kiss before placing his forehead onto hers. “I would be willing to marry you tonight. You have taken my heart, and I don’t wish you to return it.”
Aemma’s heart felt like it would explode because of how much love she felt. “And you have mine, my love, my raven.” She whispered, kissing him once more, letting him feel all her love through the kiss. She separated herself from him, wishing a goodnight as she entered her tent.
“Sweet dreams, my dragon,” whispered Benji as he stood outside her tent for a while before walking to his tent, hoping to dream of a loving princess.
As the guard led him out of the throne room and through the halls, Jace felt himself with mixed emotions at what was to come. When they reached the door to his betrothed, he was given a look by the guard. A silent warning to be on his best behaviour. The door was opened and Jacaerys moved inside the door slamming shut behind him, he found the chamber to be very beautiful, the grey Vale stone with curtains of blue and white, many windows and sweet stains and silks, furniture of dark wood and blue fabric, two balconies one to the courtyard and he thought of the woman who he had seen looking down at him, to think that may have been her and another balcony to the outside of the castle. He looked around and saw no one but he heard singing like a sweet songbird from the open balcony door. Jacaery’s eyes were drawn to the balcony he stepped out curious about the sight he might see.
The sight in front of him was not a surprise but the voice and melody were one he could not resist, he was stunned. He saw the grey stone balcony that overlooked the Vales rolling hills, birds came to a birdhouse built into the balcony walls, birds settling in before the storm took hold, and on the balcony stood a woman. She looked his age, with long dark brown hair, pale skin, and a beautiful gown of blue velvet and silver embroidery, She had a voice like an angel, but immediately he noticed she was chubby, she had wide hips, broad shoulders but she had freckles she wasn't a Westeros standard of beautiful by any means.
Jacaerys knew in the moment that this was his betrothed. After a long stare, he felt a knot fill his stomach at her curves. She was chubby, he didn’t know how to feel about this, it wasn’t like terrible but mildly disappointing to him, but he felt bad immediately for thinking that, she was still a beauty in that as well. She possessed a charm and a comfort that he had never seen before. As he stared at her, his eyes wandered over her form, from head to toe. She was not what he pictured as his wife but she was a welcome change of pace from the typical beauty of the realm. He took a deep breath and tried to settle the nerves in his stomach as he finally spoke. He didn't want to appear rude or disrespectful to his betrothed, there could be a chance that their romance could bloom. He took a step forward to the woman.
"My Lady." Jace bowed his head formally, He tried his best to ignore it and appear respectful.
She gasped as he spoke as she hadn't heard him arrive, "My prince," she bowed her head as she kissed the head of a baby bird before helping it into the birdhouse and closing the small doors, she turned to him her hands Infront of her stomach picking at her nails as she can barely met eyes with him,
Jace would chuckle gently to himself at the sight before him. The way she took care of the birds and how she fiddled with her fingers. It reminded him of his mother in a way, she had a delicate manner about her. He had not expected this girl to be his wife, but she had captured his attention. The way she looked at him was what caught him most. "You care deeply for those birds don't you?"
"I do, I have watched over them in my room now for six generations. I make sure to take them in before each storm," she answered "I'm - forgive me but... Please do not feel you need to make small talk with me,” she said which stopped him a moment, “I understand that the meer sight of me is likely enough for you to make your decision please do not feel you need to be polite to me. You may just go,"
Jacaery’s heart skipped a beat at the words. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Was she really allowing him to back out if this arrangement made him uncomfortable? That moment was all it took for him to understand what kind of person she was. A kind, sweet, generous woman who was undeserving of anything but the best. At that moment, Jace knew he had to try and make this one work. "I won't be leaving, my Lady."
"why ever not?"
Jace's smile grew upon his face as he looked her in the eyes. "Because just from what you have shown me, I can already see that you are more than what I ever could have hoped for in a wife. I have never had the opportunity to choose my bride, and you were not in my mind as what I sought after, but you seem to be exactly what I need."
"Please... Do not toy and tease me Prince Jacaerys"
Jacaerys paused at her words. She seemed very guarded and he thought he could fix that. He took a few steps toward her, she had a beauty about her that was much more than looks. "I do not toy or tease, my lady. You have captured my eye, my heart, and my interest. I have no desire to joke in this matter."
she stepped back widening the space between them "I offer this to you now. You may go. Now. And I will think no ill of you, you have my permission to go, to leave, and I will not argue with you. Please go. I could not bear another jest..."
The Prince's smile faded as he saw the terror in her eyes. She truly believed that she was unlovable, he could see it in her eyes like she was damaged from previous rejections. He could see a part of himself in her. A part that hurt, felt unwanted, unloved by the realm and even his own blood had called him a bastard, and he felt somewhat unwanted becuase of it. "I do not joke in this, nor do I wish to mock you as some cruel jape. I came here and I saw you, the sight before me was all I needed to see. A beauty that makes everything appear dim by comparison." he explained, "I came here to wed you and I'll be damned if I leave without you by my side as my wife. Let the world mock and laugh at us, but I would rather have someone sweet, and kind, that I can love by my side instead of one who fits their mould of beauty with no way of kindness of conversation. I see a beauty and a strength in you that others may not. I would marry you tomorrow if I could. But I beg of you, give me a chance."
she nodded and after a moment offered her arm to lead them both inside
Jace was stunned when she accepted, taking her arm as he followed her inside. He could feel his heart beating out of his chest, she had offered him the chance he had been looking for his entire life. She wasn't beautiful by Westerosi's standards but that didn't matter, she was beautiful to him. He glanced at her as he walked beside her, noticing her hands once more. They were soft, feminine, and full of beauty. Once inside, he couldn't help but notice the smell of the chamber itself and how it mixed with her sweet perfume. Everything about her was perfect.
Daella sheepishly asked her aunt, gesturing down to her feet. Her aunt nodded. "Forgive us, my princes. My niece is not accustomed to dancing."
Daella looked up through her lashes at the princes as she curtsied.
"That is not necessary for me, Lady Daella," Prince Jacearys said as he kissed her hand gently on the back.
Prince Aemond said, "Perhaps I could escort the lady back to her chambers. The hour is late, and it doesn't seem safe for a beautiful woman to walk alone."
Daella chuckled. "That hardly seems appropriate, Prince Aemond; you could be seen as a potential suitor, which could cause whispers." Aemond furrowed his brows. "I see," he grumbled. He had hoped to get her alone and convince her to swear allegiance to Aegon. Aemond believed that once she chose her side, her lady aunt would quickly agree, and this business could be over with so that he might return to the Red Keep.
"Perhaps if Prince Jacearys would be so kind as to walk with us, that would be seen as more appropriate," Daella suggested, snapping Aemond out of his thoughts. Both men glanced at each other, uncomfortable with the proposal, but this seemed to be their only chance to try to speak to Lady Daella alone. Aemond hummed in approval but stared at Jacearys with annoyance as he extended his arm to her, which Daella gladly accepted. Both men bid their goodnights to Lady Jane Arryn and made their way out of the great hall with Daella sandwiched between them.
Tumblr media
The walk to her chambers was quiet, but as they approached, Daella spoke up, "I want you both to come inside." Aemond stopped abruptly, causing Daella to be tugged back along with Jacearys. "What?" They both chimed in unison, the confusion laced in their voices. "When my ladies leave my chambers, I wish you both to enter. I believe there is much to converse about away from prying eyes." Daella spoke in hushed whispers. The two men stared at one another, concerned. First, she talked of propriety, and now she's inviting the two most influential men in the realm to her chambers. "And what of the whispers?" Aemond repeated her words from earlier. "While I hate to agree with my cousin, he's right; what of the whispers?" Jacearys echoed in agreement, but something else ate at him. Something else ate at both of them. This invitation felt like a trap.
Daella rolled her eyes. "To seven hells with the whispers," she snapped, breaking her facade of a perfect lady. "You both know the season we've entered, and that's why you are here. I wish to know more of you before my lady aunt does."
She pulled her arms away from them. "The invitation remains, and I shall wait for you if you choose to accept it."
Tumblr media
In his chambers, Aemond bit at his nails nervously. This alarmed him. No one had made Aemond nervous since he was a child. Was her proposal really to speak of potential alliances? And why would she want to share his and his bastard nephew's company?
He knew Jacearys was desirable due to his position should Rhaenyra capture the iron throne, but their children would always face doubt about his father's parentage. As for himself, he was known as Aemond one eye, and marriage was a hard enough prospect not simply because of the loss of his eye but also because of his brothers' additional teasing. These whispers made Aemond weary of anyone remotely willing to show affection or interest for fear that all they wanted from him was his proximity to Aegon or his title.
A door opening and closing across the hall pulls him from his thoughts as he hears footsteps descending the hall in the direction of Daella's quarters. "Jacearys," he growled. If his strong nephew has gained the courage to seek out Lady Daella alone, Aemond knew he also had to follow. After all, he knew he couldn't lose the Vale all because he was too afraid of rejection.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Jacearys was mentally cursing himself for indulging in Daella's invitation. Did she mean to speak, or was this an invitation for something more? Daemon once told him of ladies who used to seek him out for pleasure or in hopes of capturing his crown. He also heavily warned Jacearys against fathering any bastards since his claim was already shaky due to the vicious rumors fueled by the greens. He knew better, how he knew better, but she was just so beautiful, and unlike any of the ladies he had ever met, she had him enraptured. As he approached the door, he saw the guards had been sent away. Jacearys raised his hand to knock the door cracked open, and a hand emerged, wrapping around his wrist and tugging him inside abruptly.
"Forgive me, my Prince. I'm just trying to be as careful as one can be not to be seen," Daella stated, turning away. "Tea?" She offered, gesturing to the set on a small table. There were cakes and small bites on display, and it almost seemed as if she was sure at least one of them would come.
He shook his head as he realized she was in her nightclothes; however, her hair remained pulled in a tight braid. The fire illuminated her face, highlighting the flecks of gold in her ember eyes. If there was something that was for sure, she was one of the most stunning women he had ever met. It was as if the gods themselves had come down to craft her. Her heavy door opened slightly, causing both of them to turn and hold their breaths. Sounds of relief were emitting from them once they saw a head of a silver hair sliver inside.
Rhaena   stood   atop   the   windswept   cliffs   of   the   Vale,   the   chill   air   tugging   at   her   silver   hair.   She   had   asked   Jacaerys   to   meet   her   here,   away   from   prying   eyes   and   listening   ears   even   if   the   guards   remain   on   sight   but   their   priority   was   take   care   of   the   dragons   and   the   little   ones.   As   she   waited,   her   mind   raced   with   the   information   she   had   uncovered.   Lady   Arryn   had   been   hiding   something   of   great   significance,   something   that   could   change   the   course   of   their   fates.
Once   he   arrives,   Rhaena   breathes   in,   her   hand   holding   the   dragon   toy   she   forgot   to   return   to   Joffrey   as   eyes   lay   on   Jacaerys.   "I've   discovered   something   Lady   Arryn   has   been   keeping   from   us.   There   is   a   dragon   in   the   Vale,"   Rhaena   said,   her   eyes   locking   onto   his.   "A   wild,   large   dragon.I   has   kept   Joffrey   away   from   it,   but   she   couldn't   keep   this   secret   forever."   Rhaena   explained.   She   took   a   step   closer,   her   voice   lowering,   unsure   but   a   plan   brewing   in   her   mind   nevertheless.
"But   there's   more.   I   intend   to   claim   that   dragon."   Her   voice   firm   all   the   sudden   as   lilac   eyes   stare   into   brown.   "I   can't   keep   living   in   the   shadow   of   my   heritage,   seen   as   less   of   a   Targaryen   because   I   lack   a   dragon.   This   is   my   chance,   Jace.   My   chance   to   prove   myself,   to   be   seen   as   a   true   Targaryen."
