𝐄𝐱𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧   𝐡𝐚𝐬   𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝   𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟   into   every   curve   of   the   upright   knight's   lithe   body,   bone   deep   and   horrid.   Gentle   eyes   are   left   hollow   in   the   aftermath   of   this   day's   work,   and   Argenti   finds   relief   upon   entering   his   ship.   The   solitude   is   a   solace.   He   embraces   it   with   the   heaviest   of   sighs,   leaning   against   the   door   to   his   ship   once   it's   closed   behind   him,   gaze   hidden   behind   a   wall   of   lashes.   Who   is   to   say   how   long   he   wastes   in   that   position,   doing   his   best   to   be   himself   enough   to   stand   and   move   around   again,   to   look   at   this   place   he   calls   home. 

When   he   does   finally   lift   his   head,   it's   to   confusion   and   surprise   both.   He's   cautious   with   the   unfamiliar   package,   but   it   takes   only   a   moment   for   a   tired   smile   to   cross   his   lips   and   the   lid   of   the   package   falls   to   the   side.    ❝   How   lovely   . . .   ❞   The   smell   is   divine,   and   now   that   his   sights   have   been   set   on   it,   he's   realizing   just   how   long   it's   been   since   he's   had   any   food   at   all. 

Though   he   only   has   the   smallest   idea   of   who   could   have   left   the   gift,   he   knows   it   must   have   been   someone   he's   seen   recently.   Perhaps   that   sweet   boy   from   the   Garden   of   Recollection,   he   had   given   him   something   first   after   all   and   Al-Haytham   seems   the   type   to   repay   such   kindness.   He'll   have   to   remember   to   thank   him   next   they   meet.   The   treat   was   much   needed   after   the   pains   he's   faced.

the way he was drawn to your voice like a butterfly to a flower, it's something he tried so hard to study, to understand. he read all the books about romance and law of attraction he could find, nothing explained how he was so drawn to just the sound of your voice

it reached the point where he would take time out of his schedule, cancel appointments and experiments and whatnot, just so he had some time to talk to you. listening to you talk about your day after he had insisted, hearing how you'd laugh so genuinely at a stupid joke he made, archons he could listen to your voice all day, all night, all year-round.

just something about the way you were almost gentle with how you talked to everyone, the way you seemed genuinely interested in everyone you got to chat with, it was just so precious to him. maybe the fact that the soldiers seemed so at peace talking to you also helped, as he was relieved to see them look like they felt comfort for once

and when you approached him with the warmest, most comforting smile he'd seen in a while, he was so close to melting into putty. he really tried to stand his ground around you, tried to seem serious as a general, but friendly as a comrade. he failed, he was very bashful talking with you for the first time

as time passed, he started to really admire you. the way you were gentle but stern during their training, how caring and considerate you were with everyone around you, and was he delusional or were you especially caring with him ? oh he doesn't want get ahead of himself, but he could swear you were giving him special treatment. actually, he hopes so !

he found himself second guessing before acting out on his violent tendencies against monsters, he'd think, 'what if you were to witness that nature of his ?' then he'd remember those eyes of yours

but he'd think again, 'but they'd know it's for a good cause, of course.' he'd reassure himself, and again the image of that look of admiration flashes in his mind. well, it certainly gave him some sort of motivation somehow

your passion for pursuing the goals you set for yourself, and the determination you had to achieve every one. he always found your passion in life inspiring, and whenever you'd go on and on about your ambitions and how you'd rest at nothing to actually reach the heights you set for yourself, he couldn't help but feel the same determination for his own plans in life

but one day in particular, you caught him off guard. he never would've expected to reach your favorite shared spot just to see you crying, curled up in a ball like a child, sobbing. his heart already dropped the second he saw you in that state, it was his first time seeing and hearing you cry, and what's worse ? it shattered when you finally looked up to him, tears stained your cheeks and you had the most heartbreaking expression he'd probably ever seen on someone

when you finally started to talk about it, explaining everything that had happened earlier that day, his mind was clouded with foul thoughts. you were not the kind of person to let words get to you, so to see you like this over something someone said, he doesn't even know what they said but he wants to take their words and shove it down their throat

that day, he realized that no matter how inspired you were, there were moments where you needed him there for you. he realized to himself that he wanted to protect your passion, your determination, and wanted to be a factor to it

how much of a good listener and how genuine you were. at first he only found it endearing, the way you were so easily fascinated by things others would've found boring, the way you listened to every word he said, and the way you paid attention to him and nothing else whenever he spoke

but maybe it was the way you made him feel like he was actually talking to someone, that he wasn't striking up a conversation with a wall. or the way you showed genuine interest in the things he dedicated hours in learning to share with someone else. but either way, talking with you for hours actually made him feel good and warm

as time went by, it became a regular routine for the two of you to meet up somewhere, be it a picnic or a stroll through avidya forest, just so you can chat away for hours. tighnari even found himself reading through topics you happened to mention you were interested in so he can talk about it with you instead of always talking about his interests

his feelings developed through those simple chats, and he realized them when hours went by unnoticed and time was almost paused until you two realized that the sun was starting to set
