How does mer Leon go through labor and delivery?

Oooh! This idea got me thinking of a scene, which got me drawing for four straight days. (The page is divided, but warning for those who aren't a fan of viewing birth, blood, or 'eggs' - clear eggs? I'll get into it. They aren't actually eggs.) Anyway, full image below the break! Let's get into how it works first.

Anatomically and reproductively, most species of mer fall into the first example- the male can deposit genetic material into the female, the eggs in the female are fertilized, though females have a very long/large clitoral structure that is perfectly positioned to get into the male's 'sheath'. This locks them together fairly well and is the reason that mers tend to produce very quickly and in large numbers (though infant/childhood survival rates are another discussion altogether).

Leon, Ada, and their other pod members fall into another category: Their reproductive anatomy is very unique in that the interlock is very initially hard to get. The female also has a structure that comes out of her sheath very similar to that of a female hyena- there is a hole along the shaft that allows her eggs to be deposited elsewhere. Again, much like seahorses, this species found it more beneficial to have females deposit the eggs into a pseudo-womb in the male, which is either self fertilized by the male, or fertilized by other males. This way, the females can get right back to producing eggs and gathering enough nutrients to feed the young when they're born- which helps, because their infancy survival rate is much lower and their prime living conditions are much more particular. It also works out well, considering the social structure of most mers is already extremely matriarchal- so the eggs would be safer in the parent/guardian that's remaining in the den/home territory area. However, under extreme circumstances, females can and will carry their own eggs. They also vary in that they carry for 3 months longer than other species (ranging from 9-10 months), with fewer pups upon birth, and there's practically no 'egg stage', eggs are broken immediately after birth if it's safe to do so.

Ada and Leon's (and Luis', though none of them knew that at the time) gestated for about 9.5 months. They were hanging out on the beach, though Leon had to stay in the shallows because it was far too much of a hassle for him to move on land. While he had experienced contractions in the months leading up to it, once the actual contractions hit, so did the new stress hormones, which tipped off Ada and Jill. They made their way down to deal with it. It should be noted that, at this time, Luis had been allowed to interact freely with the pod and was recognized as Leon and Ada's mate, however, being human, Jill wasn't thrilled on him being present for the birth or being directly in their den. (Also considering they were still being documented pretty thoroughly and it was pretty much a must for Luis to record what happened, at least for his fellow researchers). Leon had already insisted, however, so he was pretty quick to get geared up and come down. Normally births happen in a den, but the birth actually ended up happening outside the den. Though they did initially get there to hunker down in one of the bottom alcoves, the labor was taking about an hour and a half at that point, and Leon was getting restless. It actually ended up happening just outside their den while Luis kept his distance (for his own safety, considering Jill in particular was getting very territorial).

Of course Ada was present, though he was assisted by Jill (her being their matriarch and his defacto sister) and Sherry (considering she was already courting at the time and would likely have to assist her own mates in the future). Manuela and Ashley were a bit too icked and ended up cheering from the sidelines while their other pod members patrolled to keep any blood-scenting predators away from the area. Thankfully, they're already located in a very safe area, with lots of protection from the neighboring pod, so it went off without a hitch.

That didn't make it any less painful, though, and it's not like mers have access or the tools to use painkillers. The full labor was fairly quick and took about two hours, with a lot of yelling, swearing, wiggling and pushing. Ada helped a bit by pushing with her own hands, though she became pretty occupied as soon as the first pup was born. She was pretty quick to nurse all of them, though three total pups came out. Normally mers will 'wet nurse' for each other, but they weren't able to do it within their own pod, so they had to wait until Ada's cousin from the neighboring pod could come over (considering she'd recently had her own pups).

Lillie was born first, with a half hour gap between Lucia and Amaya... who were pretty obviously also Luis'. Which led to some shit for him on the surface, but hey, new babies!

I’m projecting but I feel like platonic yandere Claire and Chris (maybe a romantic yandere Jill hehe) would love a darling who just never wants to leave the house, like they would fully (and toxicity) encourage it, you don’t wanna leave the house but you really want that drink from the corner store? Great news Claire’s on her way back and can pick it up for you! They would also probably subconsciously encourage it by openly talking about whatever horrible thing they had to dead with, honestly why would you want to leave when the world is so horrible, and obviously they’re telling the truth, why would they lie lol

Oh, definitely! A darling who willingly wants to stay shut in and away from the outside world is perfect. Chris, Claire, and Jill wouldn’t have their hands forced in having to keep their darling safe from trying to leave, they wouldn’t have to end up using extreme measures to keep their darling in place. It would honestly take such a load off. Keeping their darling safe was one of the bigger objectives so if they barely ever leave the security of their home then Chris, Claire, and Jill don’t have to worry as much. Not to mention, there would be so much less tension and hostility between them and their darling than there would be if their darling tried to actively leave them.

I could see Chris, Claire, and Jill not wanting to leave their darling all alone though, especially not for long periods of time. Even if the darling is cooped up in the safety of their shared home all day long, the others would want at least one of them to be home with them for company. Even if it’s in shifts until all of them can be home together as a whole. Not to mention, there is a deep seated worry in all their minds that one day their darling will decided to up and leave the home on their own while they’re all away. Whether out of boredom or finally being sick/restless of staying in one place for so long and wanting to see or experience something new. But luckily with the information Chris, Claire, and Jill come home and relay to their darling about what’s going on on the outside, even if it isn’t always exactly truthful, they’ve already instilled some level of fear into their darling about what awaits them if they were to ever leave.

As bad as they should feel about some of their over-exaggerating of what’s really going on outside the confines of their home, Chris, Claire, and Jill can’t help it. Not only does it help in keeping their darling in place for them to come home to but the worry and affection they’re met with when they walk through the door is everything. The look of concern and relief washing over their darling’s face as they cling to them, having worried if either of them would come back home hurt or even at all. So, as much as they should feel even the slightest bit of guilt over not quite telling their darling the truth it’s worth it in the end if it’s earning them some extra love from their darling. Besides, the co-dependency is a nice feeling too.

I understand that most people think Excella would be our biggest insecurity if we were in a relationship with Wesker.

But oh people, I had a dream where Excella was my best friend and now I can't imagine her any other way. i wanna throw jill in here too. both you and excella feel bad about the P30 device and think wesker is being cruel about it, but jill isn't being abused. wesker is treating her like any other employee, and it's just occasionally that jill is sent out to do something crazy, and then she comes back and you all rant and gossip and complain about wesker spreading his man ego everywhere

on a day to day basis, there isn't a lot excella does for wesker except paperwork and reports and meetings that he doesn't want to bother with, so you two actually have a lot of time to get to know you other. despite your initial insecurities, excella has been kind to you since she met you. she had initially planned to seduce wesker, but she realized quickly you meant much much more to him than meets the eye, and she respects you for earning the trust of such a dark and powerful man.

when she dies you're heartbroken and you don't talk to wesker for a long while. he does everything to earn your trust back, but he hasn't quite learned the consequences of being brutal and cruel yet. it takes a lot for you to trust him again, but you'll never forgive him for taking your friend away like that

Question: what would each of the main cast reaction be when they found out that Leon is ONLY a weapon to the government? And let’s say they found out that they want to dispose him. Including Hunnigan’s reaction please.

Leon knows his role. He always knew. His utility was the only reason that allowed him to be kept alive even when he knew all about Umbrella and the Government.

Claire would be taking it the hardest and not on a personal level. But for Leon. He is her friend! Leon and Claire are partners in this fight! He is the man who risked it all to keep Sherry safe, like how Claire did through Raccoon City. He is not a WEAPON, DAMN IT! He is a HUMAN BEING! 

Claire would be sad, mad... But also disappointed. Because deep down, she knows Leon always knew. He always knew his role in this.

"And you'll just accept this as your life until, what? I receive a call saying you "mysteriously" die and I'm left here to mourn your assassination?!"

Claire feels guilt. She should have never left that man and child behind. If she knew... If she could have known, by the GODS, she would have kept Leon close to her. Never out of her sight. Maybe... Maybe they could have been on the same side today. In Terra Save. Working as partners in and out of their work.

Who knows... What they could have been...?

Jill knows what it means to become a weapon. Even your free will is destroyed. She feels it the deepest on a personal level. Not different from what happened to her when Wesker took control over her; but Loen is not being controlled on a physical level to do it -, he is being emotionally controlled to act and do works he normally wouldn't agree with. 

A sad destiny... Leon will either die on the battlefield or die as a "casualty" when the Government thinks he is of no use anymore.

"I know you. I know what you do does not equal to what you believe. You're a puppet, Leon. But that does not define who you are! If you need help to cut those ties, a place to be safe... Believe in us. Rely on us."

For Chris, it all made sense now... Leon's defeatist mentality. How he felt like he would never escape from this endless circle. Because Leon is not fighting to end the Bioterrorism, he is fighting so the real masterminds behind it all won't get caught. It is like a Lawyer wanting to end crimes. It does not work.

He works and makes a living out of those disgraces happening. Leon lives in a walking hypocrisy. An ocean of guilt and shame. He can't even be proud of his job like how his friends are. 

Chris can't even imagine how would that feel. He is a proud B.S.A.A man. He wears the symbol for everyone to see. Leon keeps his hidden under his jacket.

"This is why you never make plans that far ahead? Because every day you're alive is just another miracle isn't it? Maybe ending yourself is the one comfort you have -, believing you're capable of at least choosing how you're going to die. But guess what, Leon? You're not alone in this fight... You're a friend. You're family."

Hunnigan... Hunnigan is really found of Leon. They are working together since, what? 2005?! Leon is... He is special to her. And knowing what the government has in store for him feels unfair. It IS unfair. Shouldn't her job be all about keeping him safe?! Ingrid would suggest him to just... Fake his death and she would want to give him all his freedom. Even if... A fake one...

I have a question for your RE mer au. How did the pod react to Luis ? I bet when Leon first introduced Luis to the pod, the pod was quite surprised !

Luis actually introduced himself! He was part of a team researching the area (it's well known for having a superpod that's lived there for many human and mer generations). A few months later, Leon's pod arrived, and being a rare species, it was a pretty great opportunity to learn more about them! Of his team, Luis was the one who worked up the guts (and was stupid enough) to try and get some hands on contact with the pod. It took a few months, but he was able to slowly sit and scoot a little bit closer every day. Eventually, when he started bringing food and Leon was the first to get curious, and Luis miiiight have accidentally started courting Leon. (Luis did not know this for quite some time). With Leon being courted by a human, and Jill being quite protective because of Leon's history with a previous mate, she's been quite wary of strangers- plus, this human was technically trespassing her territory. Though Luis eventually got the 'in' to the pod for the food he was providing, she still likes to challenge him sometimes. Any excuse to make sure this guy knows she's boss! I want to start by saying that I can see how (especially) in the RE3Remake, Jill and Carlos do make quite a cute pairing. I feel like the remake did a much better job of making their relationship more 'shippy' and I liked Carlos a lot. I can totally understand if someone wants to ship Carlos and Jill.

I personally didn't see much romance between them in the OG RE3, but I understand that there are some slightly different paths with that game as well. Like you may get the above picture or a different one. I also know this can happen in the OG:

I'm glad Jill and Carlos have some respite after everything in RE3! Lord knows they both need it.

But I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Valenfield and they are my main RE ship.

Also, my sister and I joke that the poster Jill has on her apartment wall in the remake is of Chris (handsome dark haired biker dude who appears to have some military influences - we know Chris has a leather biker jacket and is ex-military. I could also go as far as to speculate (but should I? XD) that Jill (we don't actually see the persons face) is wearing one of Chris' shirts in the RE3Remake post-credits. Or at least it looks very much like Jill wearing a green shirt with a punching bag in the background (Chris has always been associated with the color green and punching boulders). But if you want to headcanon that it's Jill and Carlos I guess you could do that, too. (I think some people speculate it might be Rebecca as well, but I'm going with Jill)

Yes, Jill is definitely a woman who would wear cute feminine outfits if she wanted to. I have seen those pictures of Jill and Carlos at the end of RE3. It's always kind of fun when Capcom does things like that so you can determine for yourself what it means (like all these other points I've brought up, too).

But to come back to your initial point, I think there is definitely a chance Chris and Jill have seen each other in casual clothes over the many years they have known each other, which by Death Island will be about 20 years.

For example, you can read some entries from Jill's diary as bonus material in RE3 (the original), to which she mentions Chris in 3 out of the 4 entries. One entry even has her going over to Chris' apartment in the middle of the night. So did Chris see her in her pajamas? Maybe. Or maybe Jill wore her ugliest sweats and a huge trench coat. Maybe she suited up in her STARS uniform before going over? Maybe she did wear a really freaking cute outfit? Who knows. But what we do know is that she went over to his apartment in the middle of the night. My thought is that she went over in normal casual clothes.

There have been multiple subtle hints about how close Chris and Jill are in the series. Chris even writes to Jill that Claire may reach out to her about his whereabouts in his letter, found in the STARS office in RE2Remake. And that's why I like their ship so much, they have a lot of history together and care about each other deeply (whether you see them as romantic or not).

They are 2 of the original 11 founders of the BSAA. The BSAA rubs shoulders with some big government organizations and the like. Perhaps there has been a gala or fancy fundraiser or meet and greet with these organizations, which would mean Chris and Jill would attend in some formal wear. I'm not saying it happened, but it is within the realm of possibility.

And also, in RE5, Jill only tears off her cloak to reveal her skintight battlesuit once she's in front of Chris (And rips it open :O). Okaaayyy?? Girl has been missing her man for almost 3 years! Like... hmmmm.... lol. (No, honestly, I'm only joking, that whole ordeal breaks my heart for both of them - how traumatic it must be!)

So in short, I guess there is a chance that Chris and Jill have never seen each other in casual cute clothes, but their history and apparent connections (within canon) would more logically point to the fact that they have.

But Jill and Carlos are cute, too. Just not my favorite and first RE ship :)

I'm not here to start any shipping wars or anything. Just enjoying my current obsession :P

(Also, sorry if I sound ignorant, is there a cultural aspect that makes seeing someone in their casual clothes much more significant? I know RE is Japanese, so is it a big deal in Japanese culture? To our Western traditions, we usually place significance on seeing someone dressed up nicely)
