A/N: the request was specific, but I think a lot of tough upbringings can lead to similar outcomes in adult life. To the requester, I hope me broadening this concept is okay and you could still relate to it.

Prioritizes your physical safety - Seungcheol, Woozi

He doesn’t need to know details, but if he ever gets the hint that physical harm has ever come to you, he takes on a guard dog mentality. He's your body guard everywhere he goes with you. He buys you all of the self-defense keychains and teaches you how to fight if you don't know how. He installs a high-end security system in your home or apartment. These are non-negotiables for him in a way, because he doesn’t like the fear in your eyes if your personal history comes up and he refuses to let any of it repeat. So he spends a pretty significant amount of time and money to give you tools that might make you feel safer. 

Cuts out triggers for you anytime he can - Joshua, Mingyu, Vernon

He also doesn’t need all the details. Just a simple, “I don’t like this,” is enough for him to help you avoid it forever. Doesn’t matter if it’s a particular song, or the smell of cigarettes or alcohol, or the darkness in your bedroom at night. It seriously does not matter what it is because it’s all going on his list to keep in mind. He skips the song or deletes it from his music library altogether. He avoids environments with you where smoking and drinking might be prevalent. He buys you cute little night lights and lets you cuddle into him at night for some extra security.

He spots the amount of money in your savings one day and muses about if you’re saving for anything in particular. You say you’re not, it’s just in case you need it. He thinks that’s pretty sensible, until he sees how your definition of 'need it' varies from his. Your car breaks down for the tenth time and you’re in no rush to trade it in anytime soon, just doing minor repairs to get it up and running again. He’ll eventually talk you into trading in, if only because he worries about you sacrificing your safety in a junk car in order to keep the money in your account. He’ll also offer to help with these sort of things, not that he ever expects you to take him up on that offer.

A tough childhood can mean that you’ve never experienced a lot of things. These are fun things, like getting to decorate your own room or go on trips. Like if he ever hears you’ve never been to an amusement park, he’s taking you right away. But there are also some serious things you might have missed out on. Like if you haven’t been to the doctor in a while, he’s encouraging you to go in for a checkup. Or if you didn’t get to prioritize school, he’s encouraging you to go back and pursue something you’re interested in. These guys will not hesitate to fund any of these opportunities for you, even if you put up a fight about it. 

Tries to help you reframe the image of what a healthy family and/or relationship is - Jeonghan, Hoshi, Minghao

The first fight between you two is an eye-opening experience for him. He’s not sure what you expected, and maybe he doesn’t want to know the specifics, because you seemed to expect much worse than a little silent treatment until he figured out what he wanted to say. If you ever express any confusion about how he handles these moments of tension, he’s setting you straight. Comments on Kutner's Obituary (feat. my pedantry)

After Simple Explanation, Fox put up an obituary/memorial page on their website for Kutner. The original web page no longer exists, but there is an archived page.

And I think it's great they did that, but the content of the obituary had so many oddities. It would have been better if they kept it simple.

Mercer County Courier April 7, 2009 Dr. Lawrence Kutner died on Thursday, April 2nd from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 33 years old.

In Simple Explanation, Foreman says "28 year old male" when he calls 911. Foreman is too precise of a person to have his age wrong by 5 years. 33 is a more sensible age Kutner would be than 28, considering the time it would have taken him to complete his education and training and then work at PPTH for 2ish years. I guess they realized 28 doesn't make sense that way and decided to retcon it.

"Dr. Kutner was a hard working, young doctor with a kind, unassuming, gentle manner. He will be missed by all of us", said Dr. Lisa Cuddy, Dean of Medicine at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, where Dr. Kutner worked. Dr. Kutner was born in Freemont, California. Tragedy marred his early life as he lost his parents, Karamchand and Niki Baidwan, who were shot during an armed robbery. After a couple of years in foster care, Julia and Richard Kutner adopted Lawrence. He showed great promise in high school, winning a Westinghouse Science award for an experiment involving dark matter. His adoptive parents mused that he showed a freethinking, inventive streak from a young age.

Cuddy would say something nice, of course, but would she say unassuming? She could have said he was bold, and it would have still been nice.

According to House in Simple Explanation, Kutner's original surname was Choudhary. They retconned his parent's name to Baidwan for no reason? Either that or House didn't know his real old name and picked whatever Indian surname that came to his mind. (unlikely)

Kutner received a full scholarship to the University of California at Berkeley and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Physics. He then attended the University of Tel Aviv Medical School and completed an internship and residency in Sports and Rehabilitation Medicine through the University of Colorado. "He wanted to be a doctor since seeing 'M.A.S.H.' as a kid", said his close friend and colleague Dr. Chris Taub. "I think he modeled himself a little bit after Hawkeye Pierce."

Kutner being California boy makes sense to me, but in Simple Explanation, Cuddy said that he ran naked during Penn v. Dartmouth sports game and that's exactly something you would expect from Kutner. True enough, but why would he do that at a game on the other side of the country when he doesn't go to either of those schools?

He was a California resident at the very least up to Berkeley, otherwise he wouldn't be eligible for the scholarship. Yet his parents' home is close enough from PPTH for House, Foreman and Thirteen to visit in a day. It's entirely possible that his parents moved some time between college and his PPTH days, but hmm.

And things were a bit different in the 90s, but schools, especially public ones, don't just hand out full scholarships. Either you are demonstrably low-income, which the Kutners wouldn't have been since they'd need to prove financial stability to be eligible for adoption, or you're really that excellent, in which case you'd be summa cum laude, not magna cum laude.

Going to Tel Aviv for medical school doesn't really make sense if you're coming back to the US. There are additional process he would have had to go through to practice in the US if his medical degree was from overseas. Also, Israeli medical school would mean that he would be competent in Hebrew enough to pass medical school courses and having spent 4 years in Israel, he would be familiar with the culture there. In episodes where this would be relevant (e. g. Don't Ever Change) this was never brought up. House would definitely have said something about it and told Kutner to use his knowledge to convince the patient. They sent him to Israel for no reason?

Also, University of Colorado (or anywhere really) doesn't have "Sports and Rehabilitation Medicine" residency program. They have Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program and additional Sports Medicine fellowship. They're ignoring ACGME now.

Kutner's girlfriend Nicole Brewster remembered that Lawrence, being adopted and of Indian ancestry, always felt like an outsider. But she said he didn't resent it - instead, he felt the experience gained him added insight and perspective. This drew him to take atypical paths in his career and personal life. One such example is when he decided to break the world record for distance crawling. After a grueling 43 hours, he managed to crawl 20 miles, and earn himself a place in Guinness Book in 2002.

Nicole Brewster is the patient from Birthmarks by the way. No way we never heard about it if she became his girlfriend. No way House didn't find out and say something about it.

During his free time, Lawrence played water polo and swam competitively. He enjoyed science fiction and was a frequent participant in the Clarion Science Fiction Workshops. Dr. Kutner is survived by his adoptive parents. A private Hindu celebration of his life was held yesterday.

Outlast Trials Valentines Fic:

“Yes of Course, I’ll see what can be done tomorrow.”

Dr Foster bows before exiting the meeting. she walks past the sleep room, full of snivelling and newly traumatised reagents. One of them, a rather doglike Reagent catches her gaze.

She only shakes her head in knowing as she walks away.

Outside her room, Abi opens the briefcase she’s been carrying this whole time, muttering to herself to make sure she has everything she needs. Before long, a towering, 3-faced man walks up from behind her.

“Now what are you muttering about in the middle of the Hallway Dr Foster?” The Oddly Jovial german voice of one Dr Volker Zimmermann calls out, giving Abi quite the fright. She recovers, turning to look up at them.

“You gave me quite the fright there doctor!” Abi giggles, still holding the briefcase.

“Actually, could you check if i have everything i need in here Dr Zimmermann? You’re more versed in the physical status of the patients and what they need than i am.” The brunette thrusts the briefcase towards the ivory haired doctor, who takes it eagerly as he rummages through its contents.

“Now, i’m not one to pry into a Frau’s private affairs, but whatever would you need an Embalming kit for?” Dr Zimmermann asks as they give the kit back to the smaller woman, who clears her throat.

“Well doctor, Today IS Valentine’s Day after all, i only wish to dress up the one i love.”

Dr Zimmermann narrows their eyes

“Not Coyle, don’t worry”

He breaths a sigh of relief. “Phew! Honestly Poppet, what do you see in that fool?”

Abi turns, giving one final look. “He makes me Laugh. Happy Valentine’s Day Doctor!” She says before closing the door.

Abi breathes a sigh of relief, locking her door. “I’m back darling! awww, were you waiting for me?” Abi giggles, approaching…someone.

“I was just chatting with Dr Zimmermann outside. Oh, don’t be so jealous dear, they don’t even like women…at least i don’t THINK” Abi muses, putting on her mask and opening the Embalming kit.

“Hahh, your skin’s gone all flabby and dry again, its ok, i’ll fix it.” Abi says, taking out a bottle of humectant, stripping the person’s shirt before rubbing the ointment actually his face and rather bulky body.

“Ehehe~ You’re as handsome as usual! Forgive me, i’m trying not to lose myself here, this is professional after all-“

CRACK! The person’s jaw breaks off, landing in his lap on Abi’s hands. “….I suppose i should fix that, deary me.” Abi cups his face.

“Whatever Am i going to do with you, my Darling Eddie?”

“Doctaaaaa! Docta Fosta!” Elizabetha calls out for Abi. “Ya little Pig Coyle’s throwing anotha hissy fit! Somethin’ about you seein’ someone else.” Lizzy says, sounds like Dr Zimmermann snitched. Nevertheless, Lizzy bangs on the door, twisting the doorknob, seeing how it’s locked. Grumbling, the large woman pulls back the curtain.

Only to see Abi embracing Eddie’s moulded body, jaw still slack and eyes all askew. Abi lays Gluskin in her bed, his joints cracking in far too many places. Abi turns to see Lizzy looking in.

She only smiles and waves at her. Lizzy drops the curtain back, pinching the bridge of her nose and grumbling ever-so-slightly.

“Christ at least it explains the stench i’m smellin’…”

Bio:

A street wise man who runs a club named Devil's Haven from the outside, Yuki is just another of the working class. But to the underground of his home city Yuki is known as The mocking demon, An information broker and gang leader who uses his influence to protect those who society forgets and his skills as an Assassin to remove threats to the opressed.To those under his protection Yuki is a hero, to his enemies a ruthless horror.

It all started with how he was born..Or rather created. A test tube baby, born inside one of the Mishima Zaibatsu's medical facilities, Yuki was just one of many children created for its failed, artificial devil gene empowered, super soldier program. Experimentation was all Yuki knew. With only two of the scientists ever showing him kindness. Doctor Emma Kliesen and Doctor Ameila Carey. Who gave him, at the time, an assigned female at birth child. a name, Eliza.

When Yuki was 8 years old, Ameila sacrificed her life to save Yuki. From there he was placed in an orphanage. But shady dealings behind the laye doctor's back resulted in him being adopted unusually quickly to an Irish couple. Who wanted to mould him into an obedient assassin. He lived with them until the age of fourteen. Were upon him coming out as transgender. He was thrown out onto the streets. At 15 a failed pickpocket attempt ended up with Yuki being fostered by Chaolan Lee. The violet labs owner seeing himself in Yuki. From that point on. Yuki was raised alongside Ai Jian, Lee's adoptive daughter. Once old enough, Yuki began studying at a University in Russia, both as a desire to learn and to hide him from both the Zaibatsu and the creature known as Ogre. It's here that he met Sergei Dragunov, before he was known as the white angel of death. The two have an on and off again relationship. 

When 19 Yuki learnt of his biological father, Hayato Kiyori. Their reunion cut short when Hayato seemingly died to save Yuki and his half sister, Ayame from the Tekken Force after Ayame had refused to take part in a despicable order. With Ayame hiding in Italy. Yuki connected with her mother and Hayato's love. Safiya. More so when she saved his life after a betrayal and aided him through the drug and drink abuse that followed.

When the war hit. Yuki acted as first one of his father Chaolan's many spies, then a supply runner and sniper for Yggdrasil. 

Now that the war has ended. Yuki lives with Sergei and the rest of his family. Enjoying the peace and taking the time to recover from traumas that he could finally talk about openly.

byan's distrust and outright fear of hospitals is something that's come up a bit in threads and muse discussion, but i've never really talked about why they hate them so much?

for one, they have a heavy distrust of any authority figures, including doctors and nurses. pair that with the fact that being treated in the hospital puts them in a vulnerable position and not in any control of things going on around them or to them, that's already enough reason for them to hate the place. and YET... the thing that really traumatized them and created a proper fear of hospitals happened when they were 12. after running away from an abusive foster home, which put them back on the street as they had no where else to go, byan stole from the wrong person and wound up severely injured in the resulting altercation. someone found them, called an ambulance, and they woke up in a hospital bed. using clues from the things they'd had stuffed away in their backpack, the hospital managed to find byan's identity and, from there, found their family - or, the foster family they were still technically under the care of. when the nurse told them that their family had been called and was already on the way, byan panicked and pleaded with her to not let them in, but... of course that didn't work. she thought they were merely afraid of the consequences of running away and being out so late in such an unsafe part of the city, brushing off their concerns to assure them that everything would be fine. it wasn't.

going to the hospital resulted in the family they fled from not only finding them, but dragging them back to that terrible house which became much, much more difficult to escape from after that. and that's all they can think about anytime they're in one of those buildings, be it in a bed or simply visiting.
