This is my brain trying to make sense of the new Eddie/Shannon/Chris timeline

With Shannon’s birth year now canonically being 1992 I thought I’d throw together a rough timeline for her and Eddie’s relationship since it seems to be confusing some people. (Although it doesn’t really matter what year these characters were born and we shouldn’t put too much thought into this bc the show retcons backstories all the time)

It’s canon that Shannon was born Oct 1992 and that Buck was born June 1992 and so logically Eddie was probably born either Sept 1990/91/92 (Edit: Its canon everyone! Eddie is a 1992 baby!). I like thinking that he’s a little older than Buck and so I’m going to stick with Eddie being born 1991. I have edited this to reflect his canon age.

I'm going to break this down by year and bold the stuff that is confirmed canon the other stuff is was I could piece together to make it make sense.

And yes I know their ages might fluctuate depending on when birthdays fall I was just making it easier on myself.

2010:

August: Shannon and Eddie have known each other since they were 14. They start dating in their senior year of high school. Shannon finds out she's pregnant, her and Eddie get married, Eddie enlists in the army (Shannon: 18, Eddie: 18)

Basic training is about 10 weeks plus 16 weeks of medic training so Eddie is away at basic for 26 weeks total (Sept 2010 - Jan 2011)

2011:

Eddie finishes basic in Jan 2011 and goes on his first tour in Feb 2011

Tours are anywhere between 7 and 15 months - lets say Eddie's first tour was 9 months

Eddie gets leave from his tour to be there for Chris' birth but has to return soon after (Shannon: 19, Eddie: 19).

2011-2013:

Eddie is in the army on tours and periodically home

Eddie misses Chris' diagnosis

2013:

Eddie re-enlists without telling Shannon (Shannon: 21, Eddie: 21, Chris: 2)

From my research enlistments are usually 4 years in active duty and two years inactive. However, after you've completed active duty you can extend or re-enlist for another four of active duty. This would align with Eddie's timeline as 2010-2014 would be his first contract and he re-enlisted in 2013 to start his second contract as soon as his first is done.

2015:

Eddie's helicopter gets shot down and Eddie is discharged early from the army (Shannon: 23, Eddie: 23, Chris: 4)

Eddie is a Staff Sergeant at this point which is possible for his age just not common

Shannon leaves to take care of her dying mother

2017:

Helena and Ramon try to take Chris from Eddie

Eddie and Chris leave El Paso for LA

Eddie starts at the Fire Academy (Shannon: 25, Eddie: 25, Chris: 6)

2018:

Eddie joins the 118

Shannon returns and dies

Alright, SO: I spent about an hour last night going through dates and doing the math, and I think I've got a pretty good timeline of important character moments + ages (though a lot of this is guesswork so don't hold me to it). Canon-confirmed items are bolded.

1982 - Daisy born?

1987 - Martin born

1988 - Basira and Jon born?

1994 - Leitner's library fell

1996 - Jon, 8 years old, finds one of the lost Leitners

2000 - Daisy joins the police, must be at least 18 (this is what I'm basing her age on)

July 24, 2002 - Daisy's first run-in with the Coffin

2004 - Martin drops out of school, age 17

2009 - Martin is working at the Institute, age 22

2010 - Basira joins the police. I'm assuming she's at least 22, and went through college first (this is what I'm basing her age on)

Aug 2011 - Basira gets Sectioned

2011 - Daisy makes her first kill

2012 - Jon joins the Institute. Assuming he joined right after finishing a two year Master's degree, he'd be 24 (this is what I'm basing his age on)

Jan 13, 2016 - First live statement, approximate beginning of season 1

July 29, 2016 - End of season 1

Sep 2, 2016 - Beginning of season 2

Nov 2016 - Martin is 29 (probably claiming to be 34-36 on his CV, assuming he applied between 17-19 claiming to be 24)

Plutes are chartering private jets in the hopes of avoiding #coronavirus, assuming that if they only fly in fart-tubes that other wealthy people have farted in, they won't get sick.

Public health crises show that reality has a well-known collectivist bias, and this challenges right wing orthodoxy, which is why the right has only two responses to epidemiology: "It's a hoax" and (later) "Exterminate the dirty poors!"

"The Reactionary Mind," Corey Robin's magnificent 2011 book (updated 2017), traces the history of right-wing thought to find the factor that unites Dominionists, imperialists, white nationalists, libertarians and other strains of right-wing thought.

Robin's conclusion: the thing that unites these different strains is a belief that humanity is naturally arrayed in hierarchies, with some people simply born better than the rest of us, and the world is best when the best people are in charge. It's an idea as old as Plato's Republic. Dominionists want Christian men in charge of women and children. Racists want white people in charge of racialized people. Libertarians want bosses in charge of workers. Imperialists want America in charge of the world.

It explains why right-wing movements hang together (because they all agree that the "wrong people" are running things) and why they splinter (once they take power, they can't agree who the "right people" are).

This "divine right of kings/bosses/America/whites/men/Christians" philosophy is coterminal with the idea of the natural leaders having special stuff that makes them better: just as the touch of a king will heal leprosy, so too can you expect that a plute won't have covid. It's wrong, of course — lethally so.

The US already has Medicare for All (permalink)

Did you know the US already has "Medicare for All"? But only under very specific circumstances: under the National Disaster Medical System, if the President declares a public health emergency, the federal government steps in to pay all out-of-pockets.

Jury refuses to convict Extinction Rebellion activists (permalink)

An Oregon jury has refused to convict a group of climate activists who blocked a rail line that Zenith Energy used to transport tar sands crude. The Extinction Rebellion activists presented a "necessity defense" for their actions.

The activists were charged with trespassing for planting a "victory garden" that blocked the track. There was video. 5 of 6 jurors decided that maintaining the habitability of the only planet in the known universe capable of sustaining human life justified the action.

Currently writing: I just finished a short story, "The Canadian Miracle," for MIT Tech Review. It's a story set in the world of my next novel, "The Lost Cause," a post-GND novel about truth and reconciliation. I'm getting geared up to start work on the novel now, though the timing is going to depend on another pending commission (I've been solicited by an NGO) to write a short story set in the world's prehistory.

Currently reading: Just started Lauren Beukes's forthcoming Afterland: it's Y the Last Man plus plus, and two chapters in, it's amazeballs. Last month, I finished Andrea Bernstein's "American Oligarchs"; it's a magnificent history of the Kushner and Trump families, showing how they cheated, stole and lied their way into power. I'm getting really into Anna Weiner's memoir about tech, "Uncanny Valley." I just loaded Matt Stoller's "Goliath" onto my underwater MP3 player and I'm listening to it as I swim laps.

2020 Fics

I’m going to share my to do list for next year.

1) HP AU with @jacklynnfrost - this is such a good story (all Sam’s idea, she’s just letting me come along for the ride). I’m sure we’ll make headway once we set up a schedule. We both have caring responsibilities which makes it a bit challenging...

2) Short sequel to Eliminate The Impossible, based on The Hound Of The Baskervilles. I’m hoping to publish this in Jan/Feb.

3) A Swan Lake AU featuring Rayla and Callum from The Dragon Prince.

4) I will finish The Dark Quest and I will not start any new NNT projects until I have done so.

5) A couple of projects I have with @maybeishouldwait

6) A prompts collaboration with @jacklynnfrost. We’ll be taking requests for NNT, Harry Potter and The Dragon Prince to stretch ourselves. Heck we’ll do Pokémon fights too, we both like those. Watch this space for the new year! I’m super excited about this!

As it’s coming to the end of 2020 and one of the things I’m going to try and do is promote my own work a bit more I thought I’d highlight a few of my favourites from each year I’ve been writing. I hope you can see the improvement :)

2017

The Rose And The Thorne - Gelda and Zeldris challenge class and power in their struggle to be together, in a retelling ot Trollope’s Doctor Thorne.

Murder At The Manor - A murder mystery. The demon king dies, which of his sons or his guests did the deed?

2018

The Sword In The Lake - Ban has run away from home and is lost and alone. Until he runs into a mysterious mage. But what does Merlin want with him? Canon compliant oneshot.

Forbidden Love - Three stories for three brothers. Heavy on the angst and an attempt to be canon compliant (though I got Estarossa completely wrong obviously...)

2019

Eliminate The Impossible - Merlin and Escanor solve cases and work together to track down a criminal organisation that is the epicentre of London’s crime. Who is the criminal mastermind and who ends up triumphant at the Reichenbach falls? A Sherlock Holmes AU.

Love Amidst War - Some chapters are nsfw so please do not read unless you are 18+. Alternative to canon where Zeldris and Arthur fall in love during the course of the second Holy War and have to fight off the influence of the Demon King and Supreme Deity in the final battle for Britannia.

a timeline of jenny q’s age.

sbc god knows im confused whether shes 12, 14, or 19 at this point. by the way, this absolutely follows no canon timeline whatsoever because i said so, with only 2 exceptions: her dads’ breakups. under read more bc its hella long sobs

jan 1st, 2000: she was born in singapore but her family moved 6 months later to amsterdam, netherlands. (full name: jenny leong.)

october 18th, 2000: her parents died in a tragedy; jenny is sent to an orphanage.

april 15th, 2001: gay marriage & adoption by lgbt couples was fully legalized and in effect in the netherlands in april 1st, 2001; apollo and midnighter married in april 4th, and adopted jenny q on april 15th. (age: 1 year old.)

april 16th, 2001-feb 24th, 2004: apollo & midnighter settled down in the country and whenever there was a mission to get to, they’d leave jenny w babysitters and tried to finish the missions as soon as is possible so they wont be away for long periods of time. so jenny grew up in the netherlands and learned dutch, chinese, and english. (her dads wanted her to be conned to her chinese heritage; age: 4 years old.) during this time, jenny knows all about the interdimensional space ship and have even seen it.

feb 29th, 2004: they move from the netherlands to america, where they finally settle down in san francisco, california. the authority doesnt take over the world but instead have kicked jack hawksmoor out of the team.

october 1st, 2004: henry bendix comes back & brainwashes midnighter into leaving the family and the authority entirely; thus begins the darkest period of jenny’s life due to her parents’ separation and the authority disbanding. (age: 4 years old.)

august 5th, 2007: jenny’s first dimensional trip just so happened to be the one where she goes to a dimension that she made herself, without knowing. physically ages herself up to 14 years old to help beat henry bendix. meets and befriends habib bin hassan, the new doctor. after everything is over and done with, jenny goes back to her correct age. good news: her parents are back together again. (7-8 years old.)

march 7th, 2014: her dads finally let her help them out with missions and be in teams; thats how she met mia dearden. (age: 14 years old; mia was 12 at the time.)

may 10th, 2015: she & mia formed a team--name’s redacted for now bc i cant come up with anything--and the members are stephanie brown / spoiler, cassandra wayne / batgirl (later on, black bat), courtney whitmore / stargirl, kara zor el / supergirl, miss martian, and amy allen / bombshell. while yes, the team is huge, its a rotating roster so that some missions would require stargirl, spoiler, speedy, and batgirl, while other missions need jenny q, supergirl, bombshell, and miss martian, and so on & forth. jenny comes out as nonbinary--genderfluid; she/her & ne/nem--to her dads. (age: 15 years old.)

june 4th, 2015: her dads break up, this time its mutual and no brainwashing was involved; nonetheless, it traumatized her to see her parents separate for a second time. jenny stayed with apollo but would drop by to visit midnighter every now and then, and thats how she met the rest of the batfamily. (and through both supergirl and apollo, she met the rest of the superfam.)

september 23th, 2016: apollo & midnighter reunite. (age: 16 years old.)

december, 25th, 2017: emiko queen / red arrow, wallace west ii / kid flash, crush, duke thomas / signal, and mar’i grayson / nightstar join the team!! now its an even bigger roster and its a hassle to lead but jenny’s manages to do it and theres even sub units

jan 3rd, 2018-current: jenny q happily leads a team of superheroes. (age: 18-20 years old.)

here we have a general timeline for my IT au verse. i can and probably will get more specific in the future.

Feb 17, 1977: Born in Derry, Maine

Summer of 1989: 12 years old. Has first encounter with IT, and the Losers. Later years will be spent trying to figure out why the name ‘Henry’ installs so much fear and loathing; IT proceeds.

June 1995: 18 years old. Graduates high school and skips town. She won’t be able to tell you about her childhood beyond the facts, or recall any good memories; pre-series from this point proceeds.

2006: 29 years old. After being resettled in what she remembers as her hometown of Santa Barbara, California for a few years, she lies her way out of an arrest and becomes the psychic consultant for the police; series proceeds as normal.

2014: 37 years old. Shawn moves to San Francisco with her now fiancee and still partner; canon proceeds.

Summer of 2016: 39 years old. A whole twenty seven years after her first encounter with IT, and two years into her move, Shawn gets a call from someone named Mike Hanlon. With little explanation, she packs a bag and sets off to Maine “for the time being”; IT: Chapter 2 proceeds.

December 2017: 40 years old. Shawn has spent the past year trying to readjust and make sense of her pasts--all of this putting yet another block in her plans to marry Juliet. Psych the Movie proceeds as normal.
