Hi!! What are your favorite maiden lane books?
Ooooh, if there's one thing I love, it's MAIDEN LANE. My top 5:
Thief of Shadows—Truly one of the best romance novels I've ever read! It's incredibly hot in the way only Hoyt can pull off for me (when Winter is hitting it from the back and Isabel is trying to resist all the emotion while he tells her to SOAK HIS COCK WITH HER LIQUID lol, the blowjob where they're both crying) but also sooooo fucking beautiful emotional. Like. The plot is bananas, yes, but when you get to the CRUX of why Isabel doesn't think they can be together, it's so real and raw.
Duke of Midnight—Maximus is a hero that a lot of people hate because he's a deranged asshole. This is probably why I LIKE him. He's just so... WACKY. And Artemis's responses are so measured. I love a deeply practical heroine. I love a hero who has to realize that like... he thinks he's got It, but he actually doesn't. Because she is, in fact, It.
Sweetest Scoundrel—Asa is so good!!!!! This one grew on me more over time. It's really such an emotionally beautiful journey for Asa and Eve, while being super hot and not transforming them into suddenly perfect people. A tough read, but a very worth one.
Scandalous Desires—I just love the camp of this. An Irish river pirate and the baby he severely doesn't care about parenting. The sweet widow who just wants to nurture. The artichoke dirty talk. The death row BJ.
Duke of Sin—I just feel like this is a romance novel that never takes an easy turn, and it's like... something everyone who loves the historical romance genre should read. A true villain romance where he doesn't become like, a good person in the end! And the heroine isn't a blushing virgin!

It is generally safe to eat or drink offerings made to Aphrodite, as long as they are prepared with cleanliness and care. However, it is important to use your discretion and follow any specific instructions or warnings provided by the deity. Some offerings, such as wine or other alcoholic beverages, may have been left out for a long period of time and may not be safe to consume. It is also possible that some offerings may have been left outside and could have been contaminated by insects or other outdoor elements.

Being a Vietnamese Heathen out of touch
The self-doubt and imposter syndrome runs rampant when I see pagan practices and witchy things that uses Western materials like fir or sage or lavender. Granted, I am American and all of the stuff are widely available at some mall or farmer’s market. Yet, I feel a disconnect because I don’t know these plants and I already feel guilty for not knowing the plants in my mom’s soups.
So I guess I gotta start my journey of joining two worlds.
Disclaimer: while I do practice Norse paganism and consider myself Lokean, I do not call myself a witch.
Here are some things I noted. Please respond with your thoughts. I am still learning.
Sage in google translate will either give you “wise man” or “lord” (mostly the wise person) and one result of a plant. It is ngải đắng or Artemisia absinthium … that’s not sage but you’re telling me common wormwood has the same shape as the familiar shape of Chrysanthemum greens?
I like eating mums greens in hot pot; they not the same plant as the bright yellow flower you buy for new years
I don’t think I can go about with this unknown plant though
artemis? absinth?
I am very familiar with the cure-all Eucalyptus oil and the stronger Eagle oil. So if I want any plants relating to healing, I will rely on eucalyptus and mint. Plus, mint repels mosquitos.
Rose is used everywhere and in everything. Convenient
What do I find in traditional Chinese medicine shops? What do I find snack-able? No, but seriously, what was that fruit my mom likes to eat sometimes?
list of some plants to good for you for a specific reason
garlic, ginger, tamarind, turmeric, chrysanthemum, arhat / monk fruit, artichoke,
celery juice for strength or blood pressure (easily found at Vietnamese Buddhist temples, if anybody sells juice today)
keep track of your hot fruits: apples, mango, lychees, longans, wait a minute it's the tropical--
making offerings for your ancestors or Buddhist temples or kitchen gods is the same thing as paganism
I will add more later, when I learn more & please feel free to tell me

ficlet: Apples and Oranges
I was playing with a plotline that involved late-series!Entreri (think canon divergence during Night of the Hunter) carefully hoarding apple seeds for cyanide-gathering purposes, but that plot is…way beyond the scope of things I want to write right now.
But I wrote a flashback for the thing and am Quite Fond of it, so…
Here It Be.
Summary: Several months after being promoted to lieutenant, young Artemis Entreri is still discovering all the ways his life is more dangerous now.
Wordcount: 638
These lunches were oddly informal, an opportunity for Artemis to report on his activities and be tested on what he was learning. They’d sit on the roof of the guildhouse, shaded by the many plants growing there. Some of them were exotic, foreign plants, and the water needed to keep them alive was the only conspicuous show of money and power that Pasha Basadoni truly indulged. He had explained it by pointing out that some of the rarer herbs were useful as medicines or poisons, but Artemis suspected he just liked being surrounded by green things.
Fresh fruit was still a novel luxury, grown far away or in glass houses, even more expensive to keep than the pasha’s rooftop jungle. Artemis ate his slowly, as much to savor the taste as because he needed to time to remember the still unfamiliar etiquette that seemed to be required for these conversations. Pasha Basadoni frowned at him as he ate the core, seeds and all, and Artemis wondered what he had done wrong now.
“Lieutenant Entreri, do you eat apples often?”
Artemis shook his head, then remembered the expected etiquette. “No, Pasha.”
“It isn’t usually done to eat the stem or seeds.” There was a downswing in his voice, but he smiled as he spoke. Not a rebuke, then.
“I like the taste,” he lied. The seeds were bitter and cracked unpleasantly under his teeth, but he had some notion that saying so would just lead to more questions.
Pasha Basadoni chuckled, and Artemis wondered if he’d been caught in his lie. No, he decided. Some people liked bitter things—coffee and artichokes and the fruits with tough, pebbled skins. Surely some people enjoyed apple seeds, too.
“There are worse vices for a young man, I suppose.” Pasha Basadoni rolled a grape in his fingers. “But you should know that those parts of the plant contain poison.”
Artemis had been trying to inconspicuously pry a piece of apple-seed out of his teeth with his tongue and had to resist the urge to spit it out onto the table. If it hadn’t killed him yet, he hoped, an extra thirty seconds would make no difference. But even if Pasha Basadoni liked him—and the old man seemed to, or he wouldn’t keep insisting on these conversations—that level of rudeness would kill him on its own, no poison required.
“Poison?” His voice cracked on the second syllable, and he wished that it would make up its mind about what octave it wanted to be in. It had become unpredictable lately—that it seemed to be happening to others his age in the guild was no consolation. Just because their bodies decided to betray them didn’t mean his was allowed to do it.
If Pasha Basadoni noticed, he was diplomatic enough not to mention it. “In small amounts, yes. A single core will not kill you, but it’s not a habit I would recommend you indulge regularly.”
“If they’re so poisonous, then why serve them at your table?” he asked. The seed was still stuck in his gums. Basadoni snickered.
“Because the poison is easy to avoid.” A sly, almost confiding grin. Artemis was never sure how to react when Pasha Basadoni made faces like that, so he kept his expression carefully neutral. “And because they taste good. If we weren’t willing to take greater risks for small pleasures, we would not be thieves.”
Artemis glanced down at his plate, wondering which other unfamiliar foods were partially poisonous. He picked up another fruit, running his thumb across the soft skin.
"I suppose this can kill me, too?" he asked, taking a bite of the apricot.
"Yes, actually." Pasha Basadoni said. Artemis took another bite without hesitation, and Basadoni laughed. “All life holds the seeds of death, Lieutenant. It is something you would do well to remember.”
