The fact that Taylor was working on the TTPD section of the tour for 8 or 9 months means she was ideating and creating while literally on tour already doing a 3.5 hour show night after night. As if that wasn’t enough she was also releasing re-recordings, planning album rollouts, directing videos and actively recording stuff. Most creative people would be hard pressed to juggle more than one of those things at a time and she’s doing them all at once not to mention we know for a fact her output isn’t slowing down anytime soon thanks to rep & debut tv + directing a feature film like!!! the size of the creative bandwidth in her brain needs to be studied.

many thoughts about the character of lucille after finishing crimson peak because in the second half the important dynamic is between her and edith, rather than thomas and edith, and i'm still trying to figure out if i think it was well handled.

because on the one hand, she's as much a gothic heroine as edith is--trapped by love, a house, and her own hysteria--which could set up a more obvious and tragic parallel, but her version of the prototype is so consistently villainized: she's the dark haired, the sexual perversion, beside edith's pure blond virginity. the script offers her some sympathy, though never enough to descend into complexity. and yet, the complexity lurks around the edges, probably due to chastain's acting, which swings from a natural chilliness to remarkable vulnerability. she plays the role, particularly her scene where she braids edith's lock of hair, as though lucille could be, in another story, the heroine.

but the movie still never gives her that dignity. i was most upset, i think, at how edith dispatched her at the finale; not that lucille deserved forgiveness from her, but perhaps a sort of recognition at their similarity, at their shared monstrosity. (this is probably an unfair gripe to level at a male director/writer, who wouldn't understand the monstrous thing it is at all to live as a woman at all). because edith does exactly as lucille does: kill to preserve herself. of course, i appreciated that lucille dies the way she killed mr. cushing, but that's the wrong kind of mirroring, in my opinion.

i guess because the movie's final image is of lucille (and rightfully so, tbh, that was one of my favorite shots of an already gorgeously directed movie), i expected a bit more richness between her and edith leading up to the end than mere jealousy.

It's forever going to bother me how there was this perfect potential for ted and rebecca to have this wonderful and beautiful romantic relationship built on trust, a mutual understanding and care for each other, with all of the things the writers put in the show, parallels, moments, whether intentional/not intentional and they just decided to tease/make fun of us all over it, instead of seeing what they had there was gold.

two middle-aged traumatised people whose previous relationships weren't all that they thought, who are literal soulmates because of the events that shaped their life involving their fathers, happened on the same day at the same time (which is then never brought up again) and it all meant nothing but just a parallel for the sake of parallels (to make them look way more smart than they actually are), like so many others... It was all there for them to use and instead they have rebecca settle for fine with some guy she met once, who doesn't even get a name (on screen) and ted leaves rebecca crying in the airport... that's that.
