hottest day of the summer this year i think. melting 🫠

#june in Italy was also this hot but this is as hot as it has gotten in germany this year 34 degrees..#it’s not even that hot for me normally bc in tunisia it gets as hot as 45 degrees but somehow here it’s so much harder to deal with the heat #!!!!!!

okay, so . the IOUs zam owes from last season:

initially, they were offered to reddoons, squiddo, 4c, and spep in exchange for their blessings/curses in the "a deal with the princezam" stream and the "deals deals deals!" stream. around this time, zam supposedly gave these same offers, while off stream, to pangi, jaron, and terrain as well.

woogie was then later offered 1 IOU when zam first revealed that he was playing on pangi's account, requesting that he didn't tell anyone about it. after that, the only other deal made that i could find was to leo for his login info on the final day.

out of all of those deals, only 5 accepted and actually completed their end of the deal. those being red, pangi, woogie, spep, and leo. red and spep's offers were bumped from 1 IOU to 3 during negotiations. however due to spep betraying during the big pb&j vs. playersTM fight, spep’s was lowered back down to 1. pangi's was done off stream but purely based on context i assume it's only 1 IOU? (or they traded login info ? idk it's one of the two).

during the finale, zam also mentioned that he offered 2 more IOUs to red if he logged on immediately to curse jumper with glowing (1:23:27 in "the finale day" roshambo vod (may 25th)) . yea .

so, from what i can gather: zam owes reddoons something between 3-5 IOUs, spep 1, pangi 1, woogie 1, and leo 1.

“You are a woman of taste.” Nicky says with a grin looking between Janie and the door Wymack had gone through.

Janie doesn’t get embarrassed because honestly who in the world could blame her for thinking Wymack is a hottie? “Damn right I am.” she agrees.

Lifechanging moment this year is when Amethio showed up and revealed he had mastered Terastal and proceeded to imitate Friede's pose specifically while using it.

#looking back on the year of horizons etc. retrospective #anyway that was great and he did the same thing again in ep 64 against liko so #like yeah we'll establish that hamber is the one who trained amethio in ep 34 and presumably taught him everything he knows in battles #and hamber encouraging amethio in his pursuit for strength by bringing up gibeon #yet the moment amethio branches out and seeks strength in his own way and carve his own path #there is a Very Specific person he is imitating. huh.#not the one who (possibly) trained him all his life and who gave him his tera orb #but someone else entirely. that person being friede.#anyway that was something. deeply meaningful #when the preview for ep 45 dropped i remember being like 'hey it sure looks like amethio has the same pose as friede'#'is that where they are going with it' and they did just that.#they really could have made something unique to amethio but they made this intentional choice (re: same pose)#to convey something very specific about his character and to land a point.#makes me insane the layers this has to it in terms of characterization. What do you think the best ghostwritten book is in the series. I lean towards 29 myself.

Oh man. There are some really good ones.

I like how #25 handles Marco's unreliable narration, from him calling himself "Mr. Ruthless" as he's worrying over the baby seals who just lost their mom, to his pointed "Yeah, Dad, what do we do?" as a way of calling out everyone else for being too demanding on Jake. Plus, Visser Three going "Cursed parasites!" while scratching a flea bite and Rachel shooting back "He's one to talk" makes me laugh every time. Between that and #35, I think Jeffrey Zeuhlke (credited in both books) might be my favorite ghost.

That said, I think Ellen Geroux does a great job with specifically Tobias's navel-gazing in #33 and #43. He spends a lot of time in both books just thinking, and in a series as dialogue-heavy as Animorphs that could get slow if not handled as skillfully as it is. That said, #43 is also one where Jake and Rachel are weirdly out of character (Jake "snaps at" Ax to "watch it!" after they bump each other; Rachel "more sweetly" asks if Ax is okay) so it's never going to be a winner for me.

But never mind that. Because #29 might just be the best Animorphs book. It's tightly plotted. It's beautifully written. It has humor, and sweetness, and melancholy. It gives us excellent character moments for all four boys as we see their separate responses to falling ill. It shows Rachel being good in a crisis, and Cassie being friggin Wonder Woman in a crisis. It has former enemies working together to save a friend. It has hunter-tracker bots defeated by bird poop. It's making me want to find out what else Melinda Metz has written, because honestly it might be better than any of the books K. A. Applegate wrote alone.
