thinking about the relationship between mightily oats' "the worthwhile [words] don't burn" and constable dorfl's "the words in the heart cannot be taken"
#especially the journey both of them had to go through to get to the point of saying that. like the whole of carpe jugulum oats was so TORN#and before that too about what words could you believe and who could you really trust on their word about om and the prophets and he went#out of his way to look up records disproving what the book of om said bc he KNEW nothing they said could be believed and just all the pain#and all that doubt he went thru and the part where he questioned om's 'infinite compassion' as he prayed bc really what compassion?#how many people prayed at the stake just like he was doing in that moment? how many people had to live with the silence of their god just#like he did? but still when his book of om – that he clung to the whole book for reassurance – burned he said the worthily words don't burn#the worthily words are in the heart and in the mind and not feed into his mouth by old man who just#made things up to justify their actions. he had all the words he needded the whole time and holiness was always all around him. he just had#to look#and dorfl being created with words in his head that dictated his every move . words that chained him. then he and the other golems created#'king' for themselves in the hope he'd lead them to freedom but they put too many words in his head and he failed and carrot gave dorfl his#own freedom and his own words and that lead to dorfl destroying his well child basically and destroying himself in the process but the word#in his heart his OWN words remained and they were able to rebuilt him and vimes give him a voice and his words and belief remained in him b#they were always his#god. sorry for the ramble im severally unwell about them#mightily oats#constable dorfl#carpe jugulum#feet of clay#gnu terry pratchett#discworld

Trans and nonbinary characters in The Dragon Prince / The Mystery of Aaravos!
Terry (he/him), an Earthblood elf and main character from S4 onwards who is transgender. He has a coming out scene and is dating another main character, Claudia (she/her). He has a sunny and easygoing disposition but can sometimes be a bit too supportive/accepting of people's darker sides than he should be.
Kazi (they/them), a Sunfire sign language interpreter with a passion for research and linguistics. They work for the royal family and sub in as an interpreter for Amaya when her personal attendant isn't there.
The Merciful One (they/them), a mysterious figure with an unknown but seemingly sympathetic connection to Aaravos, at least on their end. They are the only other Startouch elf we know of at this point, as their kind are incredibly rare and not much is known about them.

So I'm rereading Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching series, and, well...
I was today years old when I realised that the song "Hiver" in Steeleye Span's album Wintersmith (an album written about that series, which came out in 2013, which I discovered nearly a decade ago and which I have listened to enough time to know entirely by heart), was not, in fact, titled after the French word for "winter", as I had believed for the better part of a fucking decade, but after the Hiver, the main antagonist of the second Tiffany Aching book, which I have read a number of time and should have really recognized because the song's lyrics are almost word for word the hiver's speech in the novel.
Anyway, I shall now turn in my Discworld fan badge and then go shovel a hole in the snow and bury myself in it.

i'm so casually/vaguely interested in good omens that i was sad about "season 3" basically just being a movie for about 10 minutes before i moved on. but i can't stop thinking that if people really cared that much about terry pratchett and his legacy, they might wonder if he would've even wanted a good omens seasons 2 or season 3... considering the book did not have a sequel and he literally had his hard drives destroyed with a steamroller as one of his last wishes when he died because he didn't want other people to capitalize on trying to complete and publish his unfinished novels... or they might also be more upset on terry's behalf that neil gaiman spent decades of friendship with him hiding what a rotten person he really was, and that if anyone or anything is damaging terry's legacy it's entirely neil's fault. also, terry's legacy consists of dozens upon dozens of other books that have nothing to do with that guy anyway!

Imagine you are Death from Discworld.
Imagine you are in your Domain, minding your anthropomorphic personified business.
Imagine the wizard Alberto 'Albert' Malich suddenly showing up in your house after performing your most hated spell (the Rite of Ashk'Ente) backwards in an attempt to banish you.
Imagine Albert realizing he can't die in your Domain and thus has achieved his goal of immortality.
Imagine you are Death from Discworld and, now, for the very first time in your existence...
You have a roommate.

Once upon a time, when women were birds, there was the simple understanding that to sing at dawn and to sing at dusk was to heal the world through joy. The birds still remember what we have forgotten, that the world is meant to be celebrated.!!

Many people feel called to the priesthood, but what they really hear is an inner voice saying, "It's indoor work with no heavy lifting, do you want to be a plowman like your father?"
