"Oh..." A familiar face is often a comfort, long though it may have been, and Katarina at the least certainly doesn't find Sophia to be otherwise. Though she is a bit awkward in her approach (especially with that... bell stuffed into her pocket), she still offers a small smile once she comes into speaking range.

"Sophia," she greets, bobbing her head in acknowledgement. Equipped with two glasses of water, she holds one out to the other in offering. "It's been a long night... I, ah... I hope you're keeping well." A pause; her smile widens for a moment, a faint touch of softness to her eyes. "...You look beautiful tonight."

Grey gaze falls into her cup. "A-are you collecting brooches tonight? You can have mine, if... if you want."

"...?"

When was the last time they had seen each other? At the murder mystery party? It had been a little too hectic for casual conversation considering the... um, murder, temporary though it was.

"Yes, it has been... a long night, hasn't it...?" The pounding headache she's feeling at the moment is evidence of that and the offered glass of water is a welcome reprieve. "I didn't last... very long last year, so I was hoping to last longer this year, but... these things... are a little overwhelming, aren't they?"

Oh well. Next year she'll be even more accustomed to the crowds and the sights and sounds. There is no rush to take it all in at once.

"Thank you..." Sophia murmurs, dipping her head slightly. "You too... green looks good... on you."

After a long night, she's beginning to regret tucking her brooch into the bottom of her braid. It hadn't been a problem at the beginning of the night, but now that it's been a few hours, her arms were starting to get pretty tired from hoisting her braid up again and again. Maybe in the future she would pin it somewhere a little easier to reach.

...Goodness, she's beginning to understand Fae's pain whenever she starts to molt feathers in hard to reach places.

Regardless, after a bit of struggling, she finally manages to pluck the black feather and present it to the other girl.

"...Here."

"... ...Professor Selena." The greeting comes with an understated dip of the head, and perhaps a beat too long of hesitance (the consequence of locking the address 'Dame' behind her teeth). Another empty beat passes as the Altean tries to gauge whether her appearance is tolerable, at the least; thinking that maybe it is, her posture eases slightly.

Fidgeting uselessly with her hands, she eventually turns up her brooch, the shape and sound of a bell: pure and gentle, and entirely unsuited to her. Earlier the mage had thought for a fleeting moment to bring her a glass of water, or perhaps even something to eat as a gesture of amicability in earnest, but given how they met... needless to say, she quickly reconsidered.

"If... if you're collecting these, too..." Her throat feels dry. "W, would you like to trade...?" A trade. The first she has asked for this night, rather than simply giving pieces of her away. Perhaps it is selfish of her, to ask for some sort of amicability, failing the courage to ask for friendship.

Selena remembers the girl who hid herself in shadows, who spoke quiet—like whispers—and who fought and outlived the Fluorspar (so she recalls, at least). Months ago, they had met in unreality, and they had not spoken again since.

“Yes, Katarina?”

All the same, they cross paths again, here in the monastery’s ballroom. There is no illusion, no deceit, no sacrifice or ultimatum. There is just people—including them—at a gathering, all with the intention of enjoying themselves.

The other has something to say, she can tell, and she waits patiently for her words (she remembers Andrei, how Katarina had backed down). With patience, the girl presents her bell, asking for a trade, and Selena smiles.

“Of course,”—and here, she accepts the bell, then taking her own string of pearls and placing it gently into the student’s hand. Selena has no way of knowing every thought in the other’s head, but as much as she is able, she would like to make things good for her; easier, at least. Her smile, though soft, is genuine.

“Thank you, Katarina.” I am wishing you the best.

Katarina usually avoids getting directly involved with the whole resurrection business that Undertaker has going on. Well, she is curious about how it all works, so she does observe and ask questions, but you shouldn’t expect any actual help from her since she doesn’t support the idea, mostly because she dislikes Undertaker’s reasons.

In any case, she’s already helping enough – in fact, one of the reasons Undertaker decided to keep her around was because at the same time as she appeared, he took it upon himself to resurrect real!Ciel, and it was taking a lot of time and effort on his side. So he really needed an assistant to take care of some portion of his duties as a mortician, which is exactly what Katarina was doing while Undertaker was busy trying to cheat death.

When she heard about the whole deal with the Campania ship, she immediately noped out of participating in this madness. There’s no way in hell she would survive this zombie apocalypse on her own, and she doesn’t want to be an additional problem for Undertaker to take care of. The moment she heard that the earl Phantomhive and his butler are also supposed to be on the ship, she immediately smelled trouble.

“No way in hell am I going to participate in this.”

“Great, it means that I can rely on you to take care of the funeral parlour in my absence!”

“Wait, wha-“

“Here’s the keys, here’s the list of contacts if you need help. Good luck~”

(Actually, while he didn't say anything about that, Undertaker was glad that Katarina decided to stay at home. He didn't want her to go because he knew that she might get hurt, and he might not be able to look after her properly. She just spared him the trouble of convincing her that he feared he will have to go through)

But then Undertaker blew his whole cover during the events of the trip, and looking after the funeral house alone for a week turned into taking the entire business into her own hands because Undertaker couldn’t just stay in the same place now that Sebastian and Ciel know everything and see him as an enemy. And Katarina was so pissed off at her teacher for just leaving her alone-

Being centuries old, Undertaker doesn't really remember what it's like to be young... so he genuinely thinks that this dysfunctional 22-year-old should be capable to running the whole business alone. If little Phantomhive can, why can't she?

Another cannon shot, another step in to protect Katarina from the toxicity of its magic. No matter how many hits she took, Etie continued to stand strong, and would do so until this shadow was finally...

"Going for the weapon? Great idea. Disarming him might slow him down a bit..."

Etie 10/10HP uses Chain Guard on Katarina 10/10HP. Katarina 10/10HP is protected by Chain Guard and will receive 0 damage the next time she is attacked.

Etie's arms are held defensively in front of her, body shielding Katarina's in preparation for another attack. "I've got your back. Or... front, I guess." She chuckles a bit sheepishly at her own correction, sparing a smile for the lavender-haired girl before turning to the rest of the team.

"Is everyone holding up alright? If we hang on just a bit more, I think we might be able to finish this!"

Though it isn't something she should indulge in on the battlefield, Katarina can feel guilt and frustration attempting to lay their ungainly weights across her shoulders. Never mind that. The constancy of the pain she causes Etie, however small, or the fact that despite the exhaustion beginning to wear on the shade's face, she knows she has contributed little and less to that...

Though she exhales a steady breath, it's evident that she's changed her tactic for the one shot, at least. As the shade loads its cannon (that it should need to load its weapon with physical ammunition, yet its onslaught is magical in nature... curious, that), Katarina takes note of where it had reached. Another arrow, another retaliation -- another pain she has forced Etie to take.

Katarina 10/10HP hits Black Knight3/10HP with Bow of Zoltan [Roll: 6 + 8 = 14; -0HP, Black Knight3/10HP] Black Knight3/10HP hits Katarina 10/10HP with Venom Blast [Roll: 16 - 8 = 8; -6HP, Katarina 10/10HP] Black Knight has run out of ammunition for Venom Blast. But no sooner than she has recovered does she let another fly, this time striking not the shade itself, but what it needs to answer in kind. Yet it does not even fluster; it only attempts to reload for but a moment, realizes the futility of the task, and changes gear.

How many... never mind.

[ Romanesco Smoothie ] Sunlight peeks through the grey of Katarina's eyes as she finds the one she's looking for in a crowd. The cold of the drink she's carrying radiates through even her gloves, but there is still a touch of warmth in her expression as she calls the other's name.

"Sakura," she murmurs softly in greeting, "I... hope you've been enjoying the ball." Raising the glass slightly, she then extends it toward her almost tentatively. "This is, um... for you. It's a 'romanesco smoothie.' It tastes sweet, but it's made with vegetables." Something contradictory and surprising, and ultimately enjoyable -- she'd caught herself wondering if it might bring that mischief to the woman's eyes, or if, perhaps, she'd laugh. "..I, I thought it might amuse you."

As the purple-haired girl approached the petite priestess, a huge smile appeared on Sakura’s lips, already knowing it would be a pleasant time to spend with her.

“Miss Katarina, it’s so nice to see you!” she greeted her, eyes inquiringly stared at the glass she was holding, but her curiosity was immediately satisfied as Katarina explained the drink she was offering her, apparently. “I’m not a big fan of vegetables, but since it’s you offering me this, I’ll be glad to try it!” and she gently took the glass from her pale hand, uncertain to try it at first, but as soon as she exchanged a glance with hers, she took courage and drink it slowly, tasting the sweetness of the drink. Surprisingly, it was very good.

“Wow, it’s truly yummy!” she tilted her head in approvement, sharing a smile with Katerina. “You’re always a certainty” she giggled, giving another sip to the drink. “Are you enjoying the evening?”

"The horses?" He clarifies, the same time she asks her follow up question. Understanding dawns. "Some horses enjoy it more than others. In my experience, their temperament matters as much as their rider's. Skill also plays a role. Yes; I greatly enjoy riding."

Leo doesn't mind her curiosity. Katarina, so far, strikes him as a genuine type of person--she's asking because she seeks answers, and wants to learn a thing or two in the process.

"My own horse is stabled a few rows down. He's most likely asleep at this hour." A good thing, too, because Leo wouldn't be able to resist sparing a minute at Faustus' side. "If you are ever interested in learning, I often host seminars on the subject."

At the entrance of the stables, Katarina pauses, expression turning thoughtful. Leo eyes her, unsure of what she hopes to find but choosing to trust her nonetheless. He expects this entire investigation to yield nothing beyond wasting their evening. Bored students are liable to pull pranks and make it everyone's problem; he doesn't know why these rumors of a ghostly woman warrant such attention, but he can admit he's only here because curiosity got the best of him, too.

She moves, jolting him out of his thoughts. The rosary is well crafted, the beads smooth and unblemished. Clearly a token of someone devout; possibly sentimental as well.

"Good eye." A nod. "To the cathedral? We may find something else along our way."

He exits the stable, inhaling the cool night air to clear his lungs from all the dust and hay. His nose prickles. Quickly, he leans to the side, elbow covering the lower half of his face as he sneezes into his sleeve.

"Excuse me, Katarina," he murmurs once he's recovered. "I'll try not to scare off our potential ghost any further."

Hamefura Girls Academy AU Quick Summary

I have quickly read the Girls Academy AU from Hamefura Manga Vol 11. Here is an outline of what happens:

Anne wakes up Katarina so she won't be late to the academy.

Katarina comes out of the dorm, still half-asleep.

Keith greets her. Katarina is shocked to see that Keith is a girl.

Katarina and Keith are joined by Alan and Mary.

Katarina is shocked that Alan is a girl while Mary has remained a girl.

They hear screams. Keith explains it must be Nicol's fan club.

Nicol and Sophia are walking to them. Many girls are screaming while seeing Nicol.

Katarina is shocked that Nicol has also become a girl while Sophia has remained a girl.

Keith wonders if Nicol's fan club didn't increase in size.

Sophia explains that it is because Nicol doesn't have a "little sister".

Katarina is surprised since Sophia is supposed to be Nicol's little sister.

Sophia explains she meant "little sister" as a junior whom a senior personally chose to guide. "Older sister" and "little sister" exchange ribbon to mark their relationship.

Geordo arrives. Katarina is taken by her beauty.

Geordo asks her what's wrong. Katarina replies she just found her beautiful (even as a girl)

Geordo is glad to hear this and asks her if she wants to become her "little sister"

Katarina is puzzled since the sisterhood system is supposed to be between a senior and a junior.

Geordo replies that it can be extended to students in the same year since there are many first-year students.

Mary interjects that it's not true. Besides, even if it were the case, she would want Katarina to be her "little sister".

Alan asks Mary to calm down.

Sophia offers Katarina to be Nicol's "little sister" instead.

Katarina is flustered since she doesn't think she is good enough to be Nicol's "little sister"

Nicol tells her that's not an issue.

Nicol's fan club interrupts them. They think it would be unfair for Nicol to make Katarina her "little sister" since they are only a year apart.

Maria arrives and invites the gang to have sweets in the student council room.

Everyone is in the student council room. Raphael is here.

Sophia asks Katarina again if she would like to become Nicol's "little sister".

Katarina tells her again she thinks she is not good enough for Nicol.

Nicol tells her she is quite a wonderful person and it is rather her who doesn't feel worthy of her.

Geordo proposes to the student council that the sisterhood system be applicable even if both students are in the same grade. Mary supports the idea. Alan opposes it since only a senior can teach stuff about the school to a junior.

Raphael asks if she can express her opinion on the subject. Geordo invites her to do so as long as she won't ask to make Katarina her "little sister".

Raphael tells her she can't possibly ask Katarina to be her "little sister". She is way too busy as student council president to have time to personally guide a junior.

Raphael adds that given the number of first-years who want to be Nicol's "little sister" and the number of second-years who want to be the older sisters of the first years in the student council, it will just lead to trouble, so she will enforce a rule forbidding any student council member to have an "older sister" or little sister".

Raphael adds that she has reached her limits dealing with the troubles caused by the sisterhood system.

Everyone feels dejected by this new rule except Keith.

Keith invites everyone not to feel so down about it since the sisterhood system doesn't compare to the relationship between real sisters anyway. She makes her point by taking Katarina's arm.

Geordo and Mary are annoyed by this gesture and ask Keith to talk in private in another room. Keith politely refuses because she wants to spend sisterly time with Katarina.

Geordo, Mary and Keith fight. Raphael sighs.

Katarina wakes up.

To make sure it was all a dream, she heads to the boys's dorm and barges into Keith's room. Keith is shocked.

Katarina: "Okay, he's a man".

Katarina leaves.

Keith runs after and asks her to explain herself.

Starving Beasts, ravenous tiger-like creatures, and Ice Beasts, wolf-like creatures that spew ice where they touch, have infiltrated all three major powers of Fódlan. However, though some citizens complain that they are a plague upon these lands, others jump to their defense, saying they do little more than “eat leftovers and are very polite houseguests otherwise.” They are, regardless, most definitely invading homes, and with such contentious debate about how to handle these invasive beasts, trying to find a solution that gets them out of the people’s homes and avoids outcry against bloodshed might not be easy. Leave the problem alone, however, and perhaps the real beasts that will come out are the two sides of this argument… [Grants Riding +1]

He supposes that’s the consequence of showing his face to his fellow residents of the monastery so soon into reconstruction: they knew that he was a pair of able hands, and, as a consequence, the folks upstairs set him out to handle that which their other more occupied hands could not.

A mild annoyance had come at the fact that, for the first time in just over a month, he actually had work to do, but it was a comfortable annoyance; the kind that can only be the result of knowing there’s nothing worse to worry about.

(He doesn��t actually know why he just thought that.)

Oh, and—true to Seiros tradition—another has been foisted upon his company; a student of the Black Eagles house, though for what reason he cannot possibly imagine. (He is reminded of the last time he had gone monster hunting in the company of another; he could only hope that this one was as much of a wallflower as she.)

“ Don’t get in my way. ” (Sharp, an order, of sorts.) Though they had only just arrived (so recently, even, that the carriage that deposited them was still visible, retreating, in the distance), Moonstone was already marching off to find some trail or other to follow. “ Just be back here by— ” (A vague waving of his hand) “—whenever it is we are to be picked up, and do whatever you please otherwise, hm? ”

(Orders be damned; he’d rather do this alone.)
