Nobody does it like Mulder and Scully. They’re partners, they’re best friends, they’re lovers. She’s his one in five billion, she wouldn’t put herself on the line for anybody but him. They’re always on each other’s side (and they know it). She shot him once, and he almost shot her too (and he would’ve if he hadn’t been desperately fighting back the voice in his mind). They’ve seen each other naked well before they first kissed. In fact, they undressed themselves (metaphorically and literally) on one of their first night working together because they wanted to trust each other. She was abducted and he stopped sleeping because he was trying to find her (and he was wearing her faith, holding her cross for her because he couldn’t not hope for her return). She makes him honest, a whole new person, and he needs her to go on (and she needs him too, they’re each other’s touchstone). She listens to him, gives credit to his theories when no one does, and in turn, he doesn’t belittle her for being a woman. They listen to each other so much that they begin to pick up some knowledge about the other’s interests. They save each other countless of time, they laugh and they love, and they grieve and they hurt, always with each other. She does an autopsy to his mother’s body because he asked her to and because he’s unravelling and she’s trying so hard to be there for him. He holds her up when her father dies, cups her cheek and asks her if she’s okay. He helps her through the loss of her sister and she helps him through the loss of his. They kiss on New Year for the first time (and it’s a bit of a lie. He kisses her on that ship, and they almost kiss in that hallway, and he kisses her in the hospital, on her cheeks and her hands). He almost kills himself when she’s ill because he can’t bear the thought of living without her. They dance together, happy and carefree, and then she loses her daughter and he’s there for her. She tugs him in his lap when he’s wounded and sing to him, and the day after, he jumps in a hole to follow her. They’re each other’s truth, the answer they’ve been looking for all these years without knowing it. They are at each other’s bedside all the time. HE WENT TO ANTARTICA TO SAVE HER. SHE TOOK AN HOSTAGE TO SAVE HIM ON THEIR SECOND CASE TOGETHER. HE WIPED SAUCE FROM HER CHEEK

might regret saying this but i have always found the “joe locked her away and tried to dull her sparkle” take annoying bc this girl released 6 albums, 4 movies and went on a world tour while with him? what else could she possibly have done in that time? but even more annoying is the bizarre take that he was “threatened by and/or jealous of her fame.” 🥴 like… im sorry but if that man wanted to be more famous he could have easily used being tswifts boyfriend to get himself there! like he used a pseudonym when writing with her. and i May regret saying this but… between him and her current boyfriend who seems to be the one profiting more off of her fame? who’s the one shouting out swifties on his podcast and actively engaging with the fanbase and giving conveniently worded quotes that work to subtly put down her ex and show that he’s better i mean….

🔥for just Zane specifically: it is. deeply frustrating when both fans and official supplementary ygo media want him to just be The Mean Big Bad Sadomasocist Goth (i love Zane so much but DL Zane leaves a little bit to be desired imo!!!) Like... first of all this is literally not even a particularly villainous character. Yugioh has evil gnarly big bad guy characters and Zane really is straight up not one of them im sorry. And that I think that along with this very common fan read on Zane that he doesn't care about anything just speaks a lot to how his character gets particularly misinterpreted even to this day. Like oh my god I think even at his lowest lows in the Hell Kaiser days this is not a character who "doesn't care." If anything he cares TOO much. Like most if not all of what Zane Truesdale does is out of how much he cares about something, be it respect and fair play, the desperate rush of victory, his own sense of pride and mangled self-worth, or for his brother. He does things very deliberately on the whole. This is not a character of violence and apathy this is a mentally ill autistic teen staggering into young adulthood with heaps of potential piled upon him until the weight pushes him to an extreme that he can't really come back from, not without literally killing himself. i love him very much.

(i also cant say im a very big fan of the take i see where people wish he stayed dead after s3--among other reasons i just think the optics are not especially fantastic on being really gungho against a canon disabled character getting to Survive and have some semblance of a hopeful resolution. sorry)

🔥 for the Truesdale bros in general: really tangentially related to all of this i absolutely 1000000% disagree with this unfortunately rampant fan take that Zane is either A.) completely uncaring towards Syrus or B.) abusive or C.) both. No He Is Not. Try Again. These are two brothers with very different ways they engage with the world who have a complicated and for a long while pretty terse relationship, but to believe this is no love there is a disservice to both of them. The GX dub was so fucking real and right to have Zane tell syrus on two different occasions how much he cares about him and is proud of him. Miss me with the helpless Syrus takes and the Mean and Evil Zane takes it's about to be 2024 do BETTER.

90s run PAD has this rlly annoying trend where he very often write a female character being in love w miguel and suddenly her entire character shrinks down to the scope of what drama this provokes and it's near continually in service to the narratives of men (Gabriel and Miguel interpersonal drama for example). even when there are actually interesting things to be mined from this angle like w lyla its like. this is a pattern w you dude.

hmmm... feeling i should write something fluffy after that angst bomb i just dropped... something with miguel and xina, me thinks. they don't get enough attention and i love their silly little relationship even after they break up.

i can't remember what fic it was that i read but the author had written a running joke between xina and miguel from when they were dating that was "besito para miguelito" and i don't think i'm being overdramatic in saying that changed my life
