"I can't believe CDPR made one of the romance options a COP" River is a cop for literally two thirds of a mission that is dedicated to uncovering the depths of police corruption in Night City, gets immediately booted from the force BECAUSE he tried to stand up to said police corruption, spends the rest of the game pursuing detective work outside the law, and in the base game mentions he's going to start work as a private eye so he doesn't have to return to the force in order to keep protecting people.
The only instance where the "River is a Cop" joke is funny is using it in the context of Johnny being pissy about it, which should probably tell you how low hanging that particular fruit probably is.
#Cyberpunk 2077#It's been 4 years can we please retire the 'Ew River is a cop' joke. It's not funny and barely accurate to the overall game timeline#And I'm not even a passionate River lover I just think the joke is old and people keep parroting it like it's some big zing against River#River gets so little screentime that him 'being a cop' is frankly not that important outside of what it does for his arc motivation#I'm sorry it's just as someone whose bread and butter is knowing what joke will hit with what fandom (sometimes I hit sometimes I miss)#Seeing a fandom still reduce a character down to what arguably amounts to 10% of his character and screentime pisses me off#Aldi speaks#River Ward#River lovers I'm sorry y'all have to deal with shit like this on the regular

I know some dickheads have now decided that Judaism is the "bad, violent, terrorist religion" and Islam is the "good, peaceful" one, which is only to be expected of white people, but how much of an issue is it currently? Like I've seen some USAmericans sharing how the Islamic faith shapes Gazans values and perseverance (good) except with that distinct white hippie "I'm about to imprint on this like the world's most racist duck" vibe (bad), but I didn't think they're already turning on Judaism in numbers.
Do they realize that Christianity is also the same kind of comfort to Christian minorities in Asia and Africa? That it was Buddhists that genocided the Rohingyas in Myanmar and Tamils in Sri Lanka? That Hindu fundamentalists are even now trying to ethnically cleanse Muslims in India? How Hindus and Christians are terrorized and persecuted in Pakistan? That Muslims have a history of persecuting and ethnically cleansing Jews too?
Really tired of asking y'all to be normal about people's religions man. There's no religion that's inherently violent or exceptionally peaceful. It's just like any other ideology that becomes a weapon in the hands of ethnic power. Interrogate power, not religion, and respect people's belief systems insofar as they aren't in your business.
Edit: I've amended the "long history" of Muslim persecution of Jews because it might be misleading in the current political climate. Zionism and antisemitic Arab nationalism are twin births resulting directly from Christian colonization, and Islamic empires tended to actually be more tolerant of other religions compared to Christianity, especially Judaism, which was considered a sibling religion. Antisemitism wasn't ideologically entrenched in Islamic tradition. It's simply that ethno-religious power will lead to ethno religious domination and intermittent cleansing of minorities, and Islam is no exception. Humans be humaning always.
#Edit: please boost the edit#why can't white people just be fuckin normal for once#tbh this site was so weird about Judaism that it felt almost culty#I had several crises about whether I was being antisemitic before I realized no I'm just reacting to the idealization-demonization binary#that seems to be all western leftists know how to do#white queers are the worst about this#and now some of the asks I've been getting gives me the impression that the west thinks ''Islamist'' is some kind of dangerous cryptid#y'all attach insane levels of importance to people's choice of headgear#the only common denominator of all the Muslims I know is their fixation on biriyani idk#a lot of white lefties just want to use religion to distance yourself from your white privilege#same reason as why communism is so attractive to you#y'all want to share in a legacy of oppression because it's easier than self-reflection and unlearning#antisemitism#anti Zionism#Islamphobia#philosemitism#white queers#western leftists#racism#religious fundamentalism#genocide#religious violence#knee of huss

In my Zeus bag today so I'm just gonna put it out there that exactly none of the great Ancient Greek warrior-heroes stayed loyal and faithful and completely monogamous and yet none of them have their greatness questioned nor do we question why they had the cultural prominence that they did and still do.
Jason, the brilliant leader of the Argo, got cold feet when it came to Medea - already put off by some of her magic and then exiled from his birthland because of her political ploys, he took Creusa to bed and fully intended on marrying her despite not properly dissolving things with Medea.
Theseus was a fierce warrior and an incredibly talented king but he had a horrible temper and was almost fatally weak to women. This is the man who got imprisoned in the Underworld for trying to get a friend laid, the man who started the whole Attic War because he couldn't keep his legs closed.
And we cannot at all forget Heracles for whom a not inconsiderable amount of his joy in life was loving people then losing the people around him that he loved. Wives, children, serving boys, mentors, Heracles had a list of lovers - male and female - long enough to rival some gods and even after completing his labours and coming down to the end of his life, he did not have one wife but three.
And y'know what, just because he's a cultural darling, I'll put Achilles up here too because that man was a Theseus type where he was fantastic at the thing he was born to do (that is, fight whereas Theseus' was to rule) but that was not enough to eclipse his horrid temper and his weakness to young pretty things. This is the man that killed two of Apollo's sons because they wouldn't let him hit - Tenes because he refused to let Achilles have his sister and Troilus who refused Achilles so vehemently that he ran into Apollo's temple to avoid him and still couldn't escape.
All four of these men are still celebrated as great heroes and men. All four of these men are given the dignity of nuance, of having their flaws treated as just that, flaws which enrich their character and can be used to discuss the wider cultural point of what truly makes a hero heroic. All four of these men still have their legacies respected.
Why can that same mindset not be applied to Zeus? Zeus, who was a warrior-king raised in seclusion apart from his family. Zeus who must have learned to embrace the violence of thunder for every time he cried as a babe, the Corybantes would bang their shields to hide the sound. Zeus learned to be great because being good would not see the universe's affairs in its order.
The wonderful thing about sympathy is that we never run out of it. There's no rule stopping us from being sympathetic to multiple plights at once, there's no law that necessitate things always exist on the good-evil binary. Yes, Zeus sentenced Prometheus to sufferation in Tartarus for what (to us) seems like a cruel reason. Prometheus only wanted to help humans! But when you think about Prometheus' actions from a king's perspective, the narrative is completely different: Prometheus stole divine knowledge and gifted it to humans after Zeus explicitly told him not to. And this was after Prometheus cheated all the gods out of a huge portion of wealth by having humans keep the best part of a sacrifice's meat while the gods must delight themselves with bones, fat and skin. Yes, Zeus gave Persephone away to Hades without consulting Demeter but what king consults a woman who is not his wife about the arrangement of his daughter's marriage to another king? Yes, Zeus breaks the marriage vows he set with Hera despite his love of her but what is the Master of Fate if not its staunchest slave?
The nuance is there. Even in his most bizarre actions, the nuance and logic and reason is there. The Ancient Greeks weren't a daft people, they worshipped Zeus as their primary god for a reason and they did not associate him with half the vices modern audiences take issue with. Zeus was a father, a visitor, a protector, a fair judge of character, a guide for the lost, the arbiter of revenge for those that had been wronged, a pillar of strength for those who needed it and a shield to protect those who made their home among the biting snakes. His children were reflections of him, extensions of his will who acted both as his mercy and as his retribution, his brothers and sisters deferred to him because he was wise as well as powerful. Zeus didn't become king by accident and it is a damn shame he does not get more respect.
#ginger rambles#ginger chats about greek myths#greek mythology#It's Zeus Apologist day actually#For the record Jason is my personal favourite of these guys#The argonauts are extremely underrated for literally no reason#And Jason's wit and sheer ability to adapt along with his piousness are traits that are so far away from what usually gets highlighted#with the typical Greek warrior-hero that I've just never stopped being captivated by him#Conversely I still do not understand what people see in Achilles#I respect him and his legacy I respect the importance of his tale and his cultural importance I promise I do#However I personally can't stand the guy LMAO#How do you get warned twice TWICE both by your mother and by Athena herself that going after Apollo's children is a bad idea#And still have the audacity to be mad and surprised when Apollo is gunning for Specifically You during the war you're bringing to His City#That You Specifically and Exclusively had a choice in avoiding#ACHILLES COULD'VE JUST SAID NO#I know that's not the point however so many other members of the Greek camp were simply casualties of Fate in every conceivable way man#Achilles looked at every terrible choice he could possibly make said “Well I'm gonna die anyway 🤷🏽” and proceeded to make the choice#so hard that he angered god#That's y'all's man right there#I left out Perseus because truthfully I don't actually know much about him#I haven't studied him even a fraction as much as I've studied some of the other big culture heroes and none of this is cited so i don't wan#to talk about stuff I don't know 100%#Anyway justice for Zeus fr#Gimme something give me literally anything other than the nonsense we usually get for him#This goes for Hera too btw#Both the king and queen of the skies are done TERRIBLY by wider greek myth audiences and it's genuinely disheartening to see#If y'all could make excuses for Achilles to forgive his flaws y'all can do it for them#They have a lot more to sympathise with I'll tell you that#(that is a completely biased statement; you are completely free and encouraged to enjoy whichever figures spark joy)#zeus

i looooove pokémon npcs whose team members subtly imply something about them that's never touched upon in the story or at least never outright said. i love villains having friendship evos. i love trainers who commit hard to one aesthetic or vibe with their team (beyond simply sharing a type) and i love it even better when there's one random exception especially if that's their ace. i love when later down the line someone boxes the cute fun soft baby pokémon they used to have in favor of a seemingly stronger or scarier one to show that they're getting serious. i love when they have a pokémon that's difficult to get and raises lots of questions about them. i love it when the lore behind a pokémon fits the character to a T and i love it even better when it appears to contradict them. give me the story-gameplay harmony but better yet give me what appears to be story-gameplay dissonance but might actually have implications if we're willing to dive deep into it
#to me this is more important than actually making the team hard to beat#but it's amazing if it is#as a new fan i only know so many examples of this myself but i would love to hear more from people who know more#volo and cyrus having friendship evos...#in particular volo having a rare togekiss which apparently only reveals itself in times of peace... lol#also volo/cynthia having spiritomb. i firmly believe cynthia inherited that same pokémon from him#but like volo where did YOU get that#i've heard oleana's team is mostly glamorous ladylike pokémon but her ace is her beloved garbodor#yessss that's what i'm talking about!!!#kieran boxes his furret and suddenly pulls out a scary freak like shiftry#also the evolution of polywag into poliwrath#i've heard hop does something similar with getting rid of his wooloo but i can't verify#as another small note: love when the type of pokéball they have their team in matters#like all of team star having a different type of ball that suits them#or sada/turo exclusively having master balls#y'all what is up...#pokémon

I wanna talk about Anzai
I love him and i think he's an amazing and Extremely Overlooked character so im gonna ramble. sorry.
like i get it, he kind of has Chronic Background Character Syndrome (fortunately for him i have a Thing for characters like that) and he's not all that strong of a fighter. But he played a HUGE role in helping sakura grow and open up.
He was one of the first bofurin students to be casually friendly with Sakura and make him feel welcome after the fight with Sugishita
And he's the one who gets Sakura really thinking about what he can do for his class, and how to put Umemiya's words into action. Up till chapter 38 Sakura would just swing at whatever problem was directly in front of him, but Anzai changes that
It's clear that Sakura and Anzai have some traits in common too. Anzai tries to deal with Keel on his own, without asking for help or bothering anyone else. Sakura clearly respects that and sees something of himself in Anzai. He doesn't commit to getting involved in his business until he sees that Tsuchiya and Nagato are also hurt and that Anzai definitely Can't deal with it on his own
In the fight against Keel, even though he's grandstanding and being way too self-focused, Sakura still prioritizes clearing the way for Anzai to get to Nagato before anything else. It doesn't work out but i think this was the first step Sakura took in learning to work as a team and protecting someone's back (think later when he and Sugishita team up on the bridge)
and anzai is, of course, the first one to go down in that fight too. Nirei is the more important one but Anzai going down is the start of Sakura freezing up and losing control
And then the kicker for me is Anzai's forgiveness. First of Nagato, and then of Sakura. He prioritizes open communication and lets both of them get out all of their fears and insecurities and vent about how unforgivable and unlovable they think they are. And then he calls them dumbasses and reminds them that there's nothing that needs forgiving. That conversation with Nagato is one of the reasons Sakura even works up the courage to admit his fears to everyone.
And of course in That Scene(TM) in chapter 60 everyone pitches in on the conversation. But out of everyone in the class, all the people that Sakura had been building friendships with this whole time. The one who says it directly to his face is Anzai. Someone he identified with, someone he wanted to help, someone he failed to protect, someone he was terrified of being rejected by. Anzai is the one who grabs him by the neck and says Who gives a shit? We care about you, and nothing you do or say will change that.
and THAT LINE is what gets us this
anyway in conclusion i need more love and appreciation for anzai, he's such a good and kind person and the story uses him SO well. Solidly a top-5 character to me, maybe even a top 3
#wind breaker#sakura haruka#haruka sakura#Masaki Anzai#anzai masaki#now y'all know why i picked this blog name lololol#hes important to me <3#maybe not as important as sakura or tsubaki-chan#but he is Up There

gauge swatch this, gauge swatch that
you want so badly for everything to be neat and predictable. who said crafting was an orderly process? that the act of creation was anything but chaotic? how little do you trust in yourself, your skills, your ability to improvise? if you would not gleefully destroy the work of your hands, for any reason at all, do you even understand what it means to be a maker? if the idea of something turning out imperfect scares you so much, and you are unable to turn back mid-journey and start over, yes, do a gauge swatch. do 10. do 20. do as many as you need to calm your terror at the thought that life is inherently unpredictable.
if you understand why the god of creation must be one of death and destruction also, you will be able to free yourself.
embrace the chaos.
frog that sweater.
#i hope it's obvious that this isn't too serious but then again you never know w this hellsite#too much moralizing abt swatch hing on the dash recently#why are y'all so scared of frogging#it's actually an important skill to realize smth isn't working out & walking back after you have already committed to it#start that lace shawl over. it's fine.#crafts

Woooo LU update! "Entrance"
Looks like we were right, the dungeon is the same one Twilight chased the Shadow through. Even in this earlier time, it's apparently a ruin. I have lots of questions about the nature and origin of the dungeons in LoZ. Warriors calls them "old tombs," and Legend echoes this with "Hyrule's tombs." Was that the original purpose of most of them? Or are they just referring to the way many dungeons are dark, dank, underground, and/or haunted by undead creatures? Interesting word choice.
I am very curious about what Hyrule is referring to. Is he aware that some of the items he has found belonged to the hero before him (Legend)? Which ones? The handy/power glove? Power bracelet? Red and blue rings? Is the headcanon that Legend made Hyrule's dolls going to be made canon?? (Also I love their expressions, especially Wind's.)
Love the mention of monsters unique to dungeons! I am so excited to see more. Hyrule is absolutely correct, wallmasters are gross and very annoying. The skulltula was very creepy. Good job, Jojo.
Their reactions here are interesting. Legend is unfazed, shield out but holding steady. Wild, on the other hand, is stumbling out of the way with an expression I cannot put words to, but which appears on my face when I find a spider on the ceiling at 2 am. He has not encountered giant man-eating spiders in his travels and it shows. Also, the return of Time's bow! He is a pretty good shot for missing an eye. I wonder if he had to learn to adjust his aim. Shooting down skulltulas in dungeons is probably taking him back to his own adventures. Maybe not so good memories.
Legend's little prank with the scarf is cementing my realization that he and Warriors really do like to mess with each other. It is also making me wonder if monsters are ever going to do the same. @w1lmuttart made an art pointing out how the Links' attire could be used against them. Yikes!
Twilight is very much on Time's mind. He's worried. I like the detail of Wind in that panel too, since Time has been growing closer to him as they've discovered their connection. It's also easy to see the family resemblance in Time and Twilight's expressions and features here. Warriors makes a good call, but Time knows "it's dangerous to go alone." I wonder how they will end up splitting up.
All images from @linkeduniverse "Entrance"
#so excited for the next bit y'all#also I am trying so hard to restrain the urge to reread the whole comic and analyze each character's traits and progression#I have more important things to be doing#and that would take forever#linked universe#analysis#update spoilers#described#< is that tag appropriate here? help#also are the IDs good cuz I don't know what I'm doing. comics are hard to describe

This isn't a shot at anyone and although this is in response to a comment, this post is more for awareness.
Please, do not romantic my platonic. As an aroace person the way I perceive and experience love is very different from heteronormativity. I just find it so disheartening to like read that oh this friend you talked about definitely has a crush on you because of how touchy they are. Like my years of friendship with this person is just boiled down to romantic interest and to me that's real sad. I get that here in the West we are less touchy with our friends but why should I have to conform to that? Why should you conform to that?
Hug the homies, kiss them goodnight do whatever feels right between the two of you. Relationships do not have to be labeled all the time. It's annoying and frustrating to have people assume that one friend is falling for the other simply because they're comfortable holding hands platonically. "Oh but friends don't do that-" shut the fuck up. You don't get to define what's deemed platonic/romantic in a relationship you're not even involved in. I feel sorry for everyone that feels like they can't do things that are normally seen as romantic with your friends. Like seriously you're all missing out on the depths platonic love has. And idk why the world wants to make it my problem for its own ignorance.
Can't people just be? Without any hidden intentions or ulterior motives?
#aroace#important#asexual#aromantic#i'm annoyed and I know there was no mal intent but damn i've just been dealing with the heteronormativity narrative for far too long#and having my sexuality basically ignored or like have people overcompensate because they think i'll be uncomfortable hearing#anything remotely seggsual is just infuriating#like chill. I appreciate the caution but being aroace isn't my personality trait you can treat me normally cause I am normal#genuinely hate people sometimes dawg y'all make it terrible to exist freely and without shame#< referring to the general population and not a specific person just to clarify
