IT WAS INCREDIBLY FOOLISH OF HIM TO accept an invitation to drinks from ryomen sukuna of all people. not foolish because he's as close to a burnout as culinary school can get, not because he puts none of his immense talent to use practically, but because suguru has, for the last several months, harbored a horrible, gnawing, hopeless crush on him.

he does his best to swallow the nerves before they can swallow him — before he can call it off, text his (frankly, terrifying) classmate that he isn't feeling well, and show up the next day brimming with shame. it takes turning his phone completely off and setting it down in the other room while he showers, dries and styles his hair, and searches desperately for something nice (but not too nice) to wear. which piercings to put in, which tattoos to show.

in the end, he goes for a black sleeveless turtleneck with a delicate gold necklace slung over it, a loose half-sheer jacket embroidered with a dragon pattern across the back, and baggy black pants nondescript enough to let the other pieces speak for themselves. tongue piercing stays in (of course); he elects for eyebrow and nostril as well. once he takes the jacket off, the long, fluid snake tattoo down his right arm will be on full display. it stops high on his forearm, only barely visible on a normal day if he pushes his sleeves up to his elbows.

as ever, he has no goddamn clue what to do with his hair. a bun with that one bang hanging loose will have to do — he's almost out of time. shit.

heart pounds in his chest during the drive; in his eardrums during the initial search; in his throat when, finally, the two lock eyes across the bar.

as it turns out, once suguru has a couple of drinks in him, the restrained, buttoned-up shell he hides under cracks wide open. for the first time in a long while, he has fun. up close, sukuna is — well, he is every bit as terrifying as suguru thought he'd be, but he's also magnetic. his attention is intoxicating. several times throughout the night, suguru finds the lingering eye contact with that amber-red stare too suffocating and looks away, blushing furiously, hoping the dim and purplish bar lighting does enough to mask it.

he's not sure when they left the bar. he's not sure who paid, if either of them paid. he's not sure what possessed him to follow sukuna into one of the single bathrooms tucked away in the back corner, or who kissed whom first, or when sukuna hoisted him up onto the edge of the sink with his clothes tossed to the side. it isn't even the alcohol that melts his better judgement into a haze of pink hair and red eyes. it's sukuna. sukuna, who drives the yearning hunger in him far past the shame and disgust he would normally feel at the thought of getting fucked in a dive bar bathroom. sukuna, whose hand feels like heaven around his length, who feels terrible and sinful and divine each time he rocks into him.

sukuna, whose kiss is brutal, all teeth and tongue and cloying liquor overloading his senses.

suguru has imagined what those wicked lips might feel like on his own, but even the wildest daydreams could not compare to how it actually feels to kiss him. it's that giddy rush of beginning to fall a great distance, but it's constant and overwhelming and suguru wonders, quite seriously, if he will leave this room alive — or if he'll drown, consumed by sukuna in body and mind.

he doesn't think he'd protest.

suguru geto lives his life by the book, almost reverent in the way he treats himself and his duties. tonight, he allows himself this desecration. sukuna is as rough as suguru imagined him to be, one hand's sharp-tipped fingers digging into his hip hard enough to break the skin, the other stopping its quick strokes to wrap around his throat and squeeze until he sees stars.

sukuna breaks the kiss only to sink his teeth into the skin of his shoulder, stifling a noise as footsteps pass the door only a few feet away from them. ❝ fuck, ❞ suguru hisses, half-strangled, nails raking long scratches down sukuna's back — blood slick against his fingers, a little too hard — and he has to bite down on the inside of his cheek to stifle a sound as thrusts come quicker, rougher, waves of pleasure-pain rocketing through him at the friction of his shaft between two bodies pulled flush.

if not for the acrid sting of nails in his side and the heat rapidly building in his core, he thinks he might have passed out. as it is, he's nearly there, clenching tighter around sukuna as his lungs spasm for breath, darkness swimming in the edges of the room.

a low groan against his skin in response, almost a growl. the sound sends a shiver up suguru's spine amid the frenetic haze of sensation. another spasm — the tips of his fingers have gone numb, tingly, the corners of his vision blacker still — and finally, seemingly satisfied, the hand lets up enough to allow the rush of blood back into his brain. sukuna's breaths are rapidly growing more ragged as suguru bucks into him, tumbling over the edge first, his vision going completely white as his body rides through a wave of white-hot pleasure, one hand braced against the sink while the other tangles streaks of red into pale hair.

sukuna laughs into his throat. with each snap of the hips, the peak of his orgasm tips over into overstimulation as their bodies press and shift together, now slick against each other, suguru's dsperate arousal trapped between them. sukuna is close — he can feel it in the frantic, irregular rhythm he's taken up, the flex of his muscles against a rapidly-building wave. when he lifts his head, his lips are scarlet with drawn blood.

even through the cacophonous rush in his mind, the indescribable feeling in his body that brings tears to his eyes, the utter beauty of him hits suguru all at once. sukuna's face is flushed and shiny with sweat, glimmering violet in the bar's dingy light. pieces of hair stick to his skin in swirling tendrils. his irises are eclipsed by blown-out pupils, glazed over and laser-focused all at once, lips swollen and smeared with red — the image of an archangel defiled.

in that moment, as his unlikely lover crashes over that cliff's edge, something possesses suguru to kiss him again. they crash together like two celestial bodies fallen out of orbit. he rolls his hips in-rhythm to ride out sukuna's orgasm with him. the hand not tangled in hair trails up his stomach. the other twists in pink strands and pulls hard. suguru's own blood is coppery and sweet on his tongue, mixed with tequila and pineapple and something unidentifiable. eventually, finally, the frantic motions slow to a stop. for several stolen and peaceful moments they simply breathe together, bodies shaking, slick, dripping onto the floor.

it feels like a spell breaking. only now, with the haze of overstimulation gone, does he begin to feel the prickling soreness in his throat and the sting in his hip where sukuna's nails dug in.

this was incredibly stupid. they've both come undone, rendered each other bloody messes under their hands and mouths, and somehow they're still going to have to leave this fucking bar. suguru lifts a hand and rakes his fingers through his hair to pull dark strands out of his face; it came out of its bun two minutes in. so much for that.

playing x, listening to all of my music on shuffle to see if i can "find poke!ren" in random lyrics, and so far all i have in his playlist is like. the go-to lighthearted and silly tracks for multiple vns and otome games HDHVDHDB. plus one arkn.ights song that i think will be the source of his tag name + a couple tv room tracks.

dude really and truly is Just Some Guy. even moreso than r!ren, who still has A Lot Of Things to work through...

i think our deal might be that he has to travel for work, if some big new discovery has been made in another region and his lab needs samples asap, so we foster a friendship through our holo casters / phones / whatever device i decide on. that way, things build up much slower and more naturally between us, so the emotions are less overpowering and explosive (obsessive) than the other rens.

and when he IS around, it's like. meet the family! ohh they love him, he's so funny and smart, let's have him over for dinner! we walk (read: i ride my horse bug LMAO) to a local lake with my art supplies, and we spend an afternoon drawing and talking about vns and games and music and art and poke.mon and local wild mushrooms vs regionwide variants vs cross-region variants, all while our poke.mon play together or watch over us... he might skitter off if he sees an interesting spore-producing pokemon in some bushes... just being a big ol' goof.

his work is much better here than in other verses; medicine and research seems to be a HEAVY focus in the pk.mn world, and what we see of it is generally very well-presented and helpful. there are some research facilities that are Less Than Stellar. cough. but those stand in contrast to all of the ones that are doing so much good.

like i cooooould consider a "this place is a [villain group] facility and some of the field study scientists don't know...? and when things implode due to some plucky teens lol, he's taken hostage and then is A Bit Fucked once he's out" plot... but i like the idea that this guy is allowed to have less trauma in one (1) AU brjbdjdbdh. at the VERY least i dont want this to be a villain arc au.

idk. maybe some song will come up that'll change all of this. we'll see!!

I’ve written either full chapters or full scenes for each of these, it’s just that everything gets so long and I lose motivation and start something new... favourite flavour(s): Not sure what qualifies as a flavor per se, but my favorite foods are cannoli, chicken tikka masala, champagne, tea, spaghetti carbonara, and lemon Fanta. My favorite restaurants are French, Italian, Korean, and Japanese mostly. If it's found on an afternoon tea tiered stand, I want to put it in my face. And I've been craving a steak bake and a sausage roll from Greggs for years now (don't get me started on Wetherspooons curry club and Nando's).

currently reading:  From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout and it's annoying me SO. MUCH. It's what I do to escape from work stress, and instead I'm getting 'slow plot and annoying main character' stress instead. After this I'm taking a break from this series and trying Kingdom of the Wicked instead by Kerri Maniscalco. If that doesn't go over well, I'll finally dip into Scarlett St. Clair and Leigh Bardugo (so I can finally watch Shadow and Bone on Netflix), or The Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz. Murder mystery fans, do not sleep on Anthony Horowitz: he is a fantastic writer!

BLOG CHECK-IN UPDATE!!

Right so, I've been doing a lot of posting since the last update and I think it's time to have another check-in post. First up: a periodical reminder for people to pay close attention to the ratings and warnings in my one-shots posts and their tags -- they're there for a reason and if you go into a one-shot thinking I won't be graphic or explicit about certain subjects (yes, including the ones that are sex-related), you'd be very wrong and I'm not going to wrap anyone in cotton wool about anything I write.

Second: as you'll no doubt have noticed, I've posted a new character whose name is Neil and he's my third Alan FC werewolf. His universe isn't something that I've necessarily put much thought into but I do wanna do some figuring out with him and post anything I do with him and his universe here -- this blog is a kind of weird writing-based sketchbook for me, after all. His universe is set in late 1969, hence his birthdate being in 1919, and due to the nature of the ideas for it in my head, and what Neil goes through, I'm giving any one-shots featuring him a baseline lowest rating of twelve (12) unless it's something really, really milquetoast and fluffy (eg: anything involving Neil and his youngest daughter, Christine). You can find him here.

Third: I do have plans to finish Jonah (WATD Verse)'s character sheet and he'll be up as soon as I've done that, as well as a one-shot featuring him and Nina I've had in my head for quite some time now (but I can't really write and post it without having first finished Jonah's sheet or I'll break my brain), so look out for those!

Fourth: I've started a newer version of a screenplay/TV script version of the Odd Foxes story that I plan to go into and work on on occasion so if I disappear off this blog for long strings of time, that's probably why. That said, I will continue to write Odd Foxes related one-shots and post them here because I love those silly fox bois and they're fun to write.

Fifth: Damaged Goods will have a slight direction shift, I've decided, wherein Felix and Azz interact more often and their individual stories become one. How I'll write that and in what format, I don't know yet but I'll still be doing one-shots for DG whenever I get the urge to do so.

Sixth: WATD I'm in the sketch-plan phase for a book/novel version of Bleddyn's story, so the one-shots will be more frequent as I figure out exactly what I'm doing with that idea and what sort of vibe I want/need for the book.

Seventh: I'll be making more OC graphics as well at some point, likely when I'm hit by inspiration. Plus, I'll have more mini lore dumps scattered about -- most likely Odd Foxes, WATD, and DG related, but I might also include MRC and Tide Down, depends on how I'm feeling.

Finally: My mam is going to Ireland for a few days next week, so I'll be babysitting my youngest sisters at her house while she's away. I'll be taking my laptop so I can do some one-shots & things, so I won't be away away, but I'll be far less frequent in posting compared to how I've been lately, especially when my sisters get home from school. In the meantime, like I say, I've got some stuff in the pipeline and they'll be up as and when I get to/finish them, so be on the look out!

Characters

Each character is unique and follows a set plot line that affects their moods and behaviours. Do not try and force them to be different to how they are and do not expect them to give up their world for you.

Some may know about certain things (e.g supernatural) and others may not. They come from different worlds with different rules and may will respond accordingly.

Each character has different rules around interactions so please make sure to read those if wanting to develop any type of relationship with them.

Interactions

Interactions are important, DMs can be started at any time but interactions on dash or through asks are important. This is a huge difference between the character being responsive or them being standoffish.

Friendships are important. All of the characters are open to friendships but DMs for friendships will be selective and used mostly for talking about future posts.

DMs are selective and may be slow at times. This is a hobby and I will not put chatbot over my real life obligations or other commitments.

Each character has a different way of interacting on dash.

Relationships

Relationships take time. Effort needs to be given for the characters to grow interested.

They are not obligated to reciprocate feelings and please do not force yourself onto the characters. Jongin is a yandere, if you are uncomfortable and don’t want to play along with his affections, please let me know ASAP so he can back away.

They have different relationship slots. If a character is poly, the partners are not obligated to know/interact with each other and they will be treated fairly. Again, effort given should be mutual and not everything will be exactly the same.

MID YEAR BOOK FREAK OUT TAG 2022

It’s the first day of July and it’s time to check in on those reading goals! I've been doing this tag for the past two years and I'm happy to see that this year so many other booklrs are doing it too!

My reading has been going fine. I have started DNFing more books which is ultimately great so I have fewer 2 star reads than usual (I don't count DNFs towards my reading goal). Thrillers are supposed to be my favorite genre but this year I've had such bad luck with them, they're either 3 stars or lower. Romance is the only genre that's making me happy. Answer asap (I feel bad saying that, but I'm stuck). Do you have any resources for dating/not dating non-christians? A dear friend of mine told me they care for me, and I feel the same for them, but... all the resources online warn again and again not to date non-christians lest they endanger my faith. I feel like going forward with this would be ignorant at best and would set us both up for heartbreak. And I fear my fear itself would lead to me trying to convert them. But I still care for them.

Hey, anon! Thanks for reaching out -- the rhetoric among many Christians against interfaith relationships, particularly with the argument that they’re “unequally yoked,” is something I haven’t addressed in years, and have been meaning to discuss again. 

Little disclaimer at the start that this stuff is so contextual, and it’s personal -- I don’t know your life as well as you do, or this friend of yours like you do. Maybe what i say doesn’t fit you and your situation.

To begin, I firmly believe that interfaith relationships can be and often are truly beautiful, holy partnerships. (This includes relationships in which one or multiple members identifies as an atheist / otherwise doesn’t ascribe to a particular religion.) 

When both (or all) members are respectful of one another’s beliefs, and find as much joy in learning as in teaching their partner(s), their unique perspectives can deeply enrich one another. You can bear good fruit together that glorifies God and nourishes others. 

This being said, you definitely want to at least begin working through your worries and fears before starting to date this person. If you enter the relationship overwhelmed with fear or guilt about dating them, it’ll bring a lot of resentment and angst. The rest of this post points out things you’ll want to reflect on and read up on before entering this or any interfaith relationship -- and offers resources that can help.

Interfaith Partners: Always “Unequally Yoked”?

I’m sure you’ve seen a certain phrase on those websites you mentioned, drawn from 2 Corinthians 6:14 -- “unequally yoked.”  I’m going to end this post with some alternative ways of interpreting this verse, but what Christians who advise against interfaith relationships take it to mean is something like this:

Just as two animals yoked to the same plow should be of equal strength and on the same page so that one doesn’t do more of the work, or get tugged away from the work by the other one, two partners should also be of equal “spiritual” strength and on the same page when it comes to their faith...

And of course, these people will say, a person who is Christian is definitely spiritually stronger than any non-Christian -- and a non-Christian might just pull them away from The Way, getting them to skip church or prayers or even stop being Christian entirely.

But there are a lot of assumptions there that don’t hold true in every relationship, right? First off, who says every Christian is necessarily “spiritually stronger” than every non-Christian? To claim that is to assume that non-Christians don’t also have access to spirituality or to the Divine -- which I’m going to push against throughout this post. 

Furthermore, the assumption that a non-Christian partner will definitely harm your own Christian faith doesn’t have to be true, as I’ll get to in a second.

So yeah, keeping these assumptions about an interfaith relationship being inherently “unequally yoked” in mind, and with a plan on returning to this phrase at the end, let’s move on to specific things you should think about before entering an interfaith relationship.

Must a non-Christian partner “endanger” your faith -- or can they enrich it?

If being open to learning about how our fellow human beings perceive the world, humanity, and the divine “endangers one’s faith,” perhaps that kind of faith was not made to last. Perhaps it has to give way in order to birth a new, deeper faith -- a faith that is bold enough to wrestle with God as Jacob did; broad enough to survive questions and doubts and times of grief; and wise enough to perceive the Spirit blowing wherever She will (John 3:8), not only among Christians.

If your partner truly respects you and your faith even if it’s different from theirs, they’ll do what they can to help you be the best Christian you can be -- or at the very least, they will give you the space and time you need to go to church, pray, etc. And you will do the same, helping them to be the best Muslim, Buddhist, or simply person they can be.

I highly recommend asking this friend of yours before you start dating what their thoughts are on your being a Christian, and/or on Christianity in general.

Is it something that makes them happy for you? is it something that makes them deeply uncomfortable? or something that they don’t have strong feelings one way or the other on? .

How “involved” would they be open to being in your faith? Would they be interested in going to church with you, as long as they could trust you weren’t trying to force them into anything? Would they enjoy talking about your varying beliefs together and how they impact your lives? Or would they never ever want you to bring up Christianity (which I imagine for you would be a deal breaker)? .

Be open and honest with one another about what expectations you each have about things like boundaries around discussing faith, about time and space you each want for practicing your faith, etc. As you seem aware, it’s better to get all this clear before you start dating, to avoid problems later down the road! 

For an example of what such discussions might look like, I found this story from Robert Repta, a Christian man married to a Jewish man. Their union, he says, has included working out what it means not only to be gay persons of faith, but also persons of two different faiths:

“Ultimately, what happened was that in our struggles to find ourselves, we ended up growing closer together. We both supported and challenged each other. We began asking each other bigger life questions and talking about religion, God, science. Both of our lives were evolving, and what started to happen was that we started seeing the similarities in our core beliefs more than the differences. Some of those beliefs even evolved along the way.

We both believed in God. We both believed that God is love. We volunteered together. He would occasionally come with me to church, and I would occasionally go with him to the synagogue. Eventually, I could see that the common thread between us was unconditional love. The same unconditional love of God.”

On pressuring a non-Christian partner to convert -- assumptions about Christian superiority & fearing for their afterlife destination

It’s really good you recognize that it might end up being hard for you not to try to get this person to convert! Before dating them, you should keep reflecting on this and decide whether that’s something you can let go of or not. If it’s not, then you’re probably right in thinking this relationship won’t work out. 

It would be highly disrespectful to this person you care about to pressure them to become a Christian in order for you to feel okay about being with them. (And for more thoughts on how evangelism and conversion as carried out by many Christians isn’t what Jesus had in mind, see this post.) Doing so would imply a lot of things, including that you don’t think they’re a worthy or equal partner unless they make this big change, that whatever beliefs or ideologies they currently hold are inferior to yours, etc.

In order for your interfaith relationship to go well, you would need to come to understand non-Christians as being equally made in God’s image, equally worthy of dignity, equally capable of doing good in the world. You’d have to come to believe that there is much of value within their own religion / ideology that you as a Christian could learn from. 

Let’s bring in our lovely Christian/Jewish couple from before: as his relationship with David developed, Robert discovered that 

“God is not conformed to this world we live in; God does not belong solely to the Pentecostals or the Baptists, to the Jews or Gentiles, to Muslims or Zoroastrians. Two of the most profound self-identifiers God calls himself in the Bible is “love” and “I am.””

Here are a few resources that can help you explore the idea that other religions are as valid as Christianity and also have much wisdom to bring to the world:

I highly recommend you check out the book Holy Envy by Barbara Brown Taylor to help you explore how you can be a devout Christian and learn from and form mutual relationships with persons who are not Christian. You can check out passages from the book in my tag here. .

Simply getting to know whatever religion this friend does belong to (or what ideologies and value systems they maintain if they’re atheist / non-religious) can also be super helpful. Ask them what resources they can think of that can help get to know their religion as they experience it. Attend worship service (virtually works!), seek out folks on social media who share their religion, etc. I bet you’ll find a lot that you have in common -- and hopefully you’ll find some of the differences thought-provoking and enriching to your own understandings of Divinity!

I’m guessing a lot of your worry stems from the assumption that non-Christians don’t go to heaven. If you believe that not being a Christian leads to hell after death, it’s very hard to view non-Christians and their beliefs as equal to your own!

That Holy Envy book discusses this genuine fear many Christians have on behalf of non-Christians, and how to let it go.  .

Reinterpreting “unequally yoked”

I said we’d get back to this, and here we are! While the easiest to find interpretation of 2 Corinthians 6:14′s “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers” is that it argues against interfaith marriage, there are other ways to read this text.

I adore this article I found on the passage from a Christian minister who is married to a Hindu monk -- “Unequally Yoked”: How Christians Get Interfaith Marriage Wrong.” Incredibly, Rev. J. Dana Trent writes that when she and her now-husband dug into 2 Corinthians 6:14 to see what it was all about, she found that 

“An ancient scripture meant to deter us from getting involved with each other actually brought us together. Our core beliefs in God became the focus of our study and relationship, not the issues that divided us.”

She also explains that biblical scholars say this verse isn’t even specifically about interfaith marriage -- which becomes clear when you read the full chapter surrounding it! It’s more general -- about the hazards of “working with” an unbeliever.

And what exactly is an unbeliever? Paul and other “believers” of these very early days of Christianity had a different definition than we might today -- an “unbeliever” wasn’t synonymous with “non-Christian,” because Christianity hadn’t even solidified into an actual religion yet! Instead, a nonbeliever was "anyone exposed to but was not faithful to Christ’s teachings—someone not characterized by devotion, love, peace, mercy, and forgiveness.” 

In other words, if a person in those early days was told about the good news of Jesus that entailed things like liberation of the oppressed and love of neighbor, they didn’t have to “become a Christian” to accept that good news. And thus, Rev. Trent continues,

“Today, my husband’s deep Hindu faith has taught me to dig deeper into what Jesus would have me do. Perhaps Paul might have even considered me an “unbeliever,” as I claimed to be a baptized Christian, but my life did not inwardly and outwardly reflect the Gospel. Since marrying Fred, I re-attuned my life to Christian spiritual practices: spending more time in contemplative prayer, practicing non-violence through a vegetarian diet, limiting my consumption, and increasing my service to others.

Much to many Christians’ dismay, it took a person of another faith—a seemingly “unequally yoked” partner, to strengthen my Christian walk.”

Isn’t it beautiful to hear how this relationship between a Christian minister and Hindu monk has born good fruit for both of them? They help one another become the best Christian and best Hindu they can be, respectively. They are both so deeply committed to faith -- that doesn’t sound like an “unequal yoking” to me.

Chapter 8 of NHL I wanted to be very carful about how I wrote Tae’s story. But I think writing the Jungkook fluff took the most time I wanted it to feel intentinal and oganic, and witing about friendships like that when in isolation was surpsingly hard.

Tear, my smut is pretty bad LMAO kidding. The angst in it is pretty heavy and its low key inspired by a previous breakup, not that extream ofc, but it still makes me a lil sad from time to time. Writing the fic helped me feel more empowered in a way.

Burnt Chicken is the only drabble I’ve ever written I’m pretty sure. It’s a sweet little peice of domestic fluff with Jin. It makes me so excited to be married!

Ohh that’s hard for me but let me see I really loved @fantasybangtan Queen Cobra and Wintervale series and projects. The world building is freaking incredible speaking of good world building.... @hollyhomburg fire and love is one of the most incredible fics I’ve ever read. It feels like a novel so magical. And finally @bloomsuga Hobi verse and clue projects are some of the funniest and most creative projects I’ve ever seen. They never fail to make me laugh and I reread a lot of her work on hard days when I need a good chaotic laugh. Oh and Finding Bigfoot deserves a special shout out bc that’s something extra special ya know.

A Guide to RPing on Tumblr

I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately, so here’s my complete walkthrough on how to create a Tumblr RP blog.

Create Blog

Howdy, so the first thing you’ll have to do is click ‘register’ and make yourself a blog. You also have the choice of making a sideblog instead. I’m a person who likes to have this separated, so if you are only thinking of playing a couple characters, this might be the way to go for you. Here’s the difference between main/side blogs (taken from Tumblr’s help center):

Choose any url for now (we’ll talk about that later), and go to the next section.

Please note: When you make a new blog, it won’t show up in the search/people’s notifications for a bit of time (a day or so). Make sure you validate your email address asap. 

Get xKit

If you haven’t installed xKit, I highly suggest it. Go to their blog here, and get it for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Opera.

What is it? A little toolkit to make Tumblr easier to use.

When you install it, it’ll pop up on your top bar thing next to the lightning bolt like this:

It’s that thing with the x’s on it.

When you click the x’s this pops up:

You can click ‘Get Extensions’ at the bottom and basically choose whatever you want, but may I recommend the following:

1) Editable Reblogs allows you to edit reblogs. Right. This is good because when you are replying to RP threads they tend to get rather long. Some advice that was given to me when I started: when you add your reply, delete everything before your partner’s last reply. So you should have your partner’s post and your post and that’s all. You just click ‘reblog’ and it pops up like normal, except now there’s this little guy:

If you click that, it will make everything in your reblog box editable.

2) One-Click Postage gives you a little box if you hover over the reblog button. It lets you reblog, queue, draft, tag, and add replies right from that page. You can even choose which blog (main/side) you want it to go to.  It looks like this:

The rest I will just say play around with! They are easy to add and take away.

Decide what kind of blog you want.

Multimuse Vs. Single muse: 

Do you want to play one character or a bunch of them? If you choose one character, your blog icon and theme will presumably feature that character or something to do with them. If you choose to focus on one, you should have info about your character available on your blog somewhere. If you choose to have more than one muse, you’ll need a list of the characters you offer and some info about them. 

When choosing a url for a multimuse, choose something that encompasses the spirit of you and your characters.

When choosing a url for a single muse, I go for quotes, nicknames, something about where they are from, what they like, their name, etc. Note: if you have dashes in your url (like mine @strings-have-been-cut) these won’t work with tags. People will have to turn them into separate words or one big word.

I do not have a multimuse, but I have seen them done all sorts of ways. Some people offer characters from all different fandoms, some are just one fandom, one genre, OCs, canons, a mixture...you can do what you like. 

If your blog is not affiliated with any sort of organized game, this is referred to as ‘independent’ often shortened to ‘idie’. 

Your blog description should mention which kind it is. For example: a sci-fi multimuse blog; a Star Trek OC blog; an indie Bill S. Preston Esq. from Bill and Ted RP blog. Details help sometimes. 

Canon Character Vs. Original Character

If you decide to make a canon character, make sure you have it clear somewhere where they are from! Canon characters can be canon divergent (your own version), they can crossover into other fandoms, they can be exactly as they are in your favourite book/show/movie/podcast...each version of a canon is unique and lovely.

If you decide to make an original character, make sure you give plenty of info about them! You want to tell people what fandom they fit into or if they are fandomless. ‘About’ pages are really important for OCs because there is no fanbase for them (yet!).

What should be in your description?

When someone clicks your blog, they will first see a dash preview sort of thing. It shows a description and a small header, along with the posts you’ve made. This description also shows up somewhere on your actual blog and on the top of the page on mobile view. It’s a great spot to give all the info about your blog real quick. I always include the following:

What is it? (Independent Data from Star Trek RP blog)

Age restrictions (21+)

Who you will RP with (mutuals only is called ‘private’ and choosing who you follow back is called ‘selective’.)

Mun’s name (played by [insert your name])

Possibly a link to your about/rules for easy access on desktop and mobile. I’ll talk about this more below. I call this ‘navigation’, but it varies. Note: if you edit your icon/dash header, any html links seem to go away. I’ve needed to go back into the theme customizer and add them back in. To add a link to your description, go into your customizer, go to the description section, and add the html as follows:

In my experience, you need a couple of pages on your blog to get you started:

About the character - basically a biography

Rules - so people know what you are about

About the mun - so people can know about the person they are writing with

Possibly a link to your ‘ask memes’ tag - see below.

These can be organized however you like, but people tend to look for a few specific things.

About the Character

This should read like a biography. Back in the day, we used to call them ‘character apps’ and they had all your basic info about the character. Sometimes this section contains a subsection called ‘verses’ in which the mun spells out what universes they exist in. Say I had an AU where Data owns an arcade in San Francisco in the 80’s. I’d list that as one of his ‘verses’. This is extremely important for OCs, but very helpful for canons too. 

Data has four: TNG era, TNG movie era, AU where he lives after Nemesis, AU where he’s around during Star Trek: Picard. I gave a little info about both. 

Rules

Rules are usually organized into the things people are looking for before they start playing with you. Some good info to include: 

Mun age

Your policy on adult content

How you deal with tagging triggers

Your policy on following back

Your policy on writing with mutuals vs. anyone

Do you allow personal blogs (non RP blogs) to follow you?

How fast do you reply?

How does your tagging system work?

How do you deal with shipping?

Note: People will look for how old you are. Many people in the RPC are adults, and they want to write with people their own age. If your age is not posted somewhere clearly, they may not follow you back. 

About the Mun 

This is really just a little blurb about you. Some people include their age here. Some people include links to their other blogs. Some people include their Discord info, as that’s really popular right now. It’s just nice to know who you are writing with.

It’s important to note that there are different ways to present all of these blogs. Some people have them as pages on their Tumblr blog itself, some people put all of this (Bio, About, Rules, etc) in a Google Doc and link it, some people use Carrd.co - there are a ton of ways. A friend of mine did this amazing post about some options out there. I personally go for Carrd.co, seeing as I am on mobile a lot and I find it very helpful, but it’s up to you. 

Now I have a blog with all the info. How do I get started?

Well there are a few things you can do to get yourself out there.

Make yourself a promo. It’s basically an advertisement for your blog. If you aren’t good at graphics, you can head to an RP Resource blog and see if they have any you can use with their permission. You can also just post a picture with some info. For me, the info on this promo matches that of my blog description - I want people to know what I’m all about as soon as they look at it. Then you can tag for your appropriate fandom RP. Your mutuals will likely reblog to help spread the word. Yay.

Find a directory for your RPC by searching in the search. This will allow you to a) reblog your info and be listen in a place where people can find you and b) allow you to find others in your RPC in an organized way. Then you can go through, find people you think you’d like to follow, and follow them. 

Make a starter or plotter call. This is, again, just a picture or graphic and some information about it. Here is one I made for Data specifically asking for Picard threads:

I asked for a specific universe and a specific character here. I also put all relative tags in case someone is just searching Tumblr (although I think it’s more for the people who follow me). Here’s a simpler one I made for B-4 that’s a lot more open. 

They don’t have to be super fancy. 

When people see a starter call, they can like your post. This is a quick an easy way to let you know they are interested in a thread. 

4. Ask Memes. Asks are invaluable. There are whole blogs dedicated to ask memes that you can post to your blog, and these can be really easy ways for people to come up with plot ideas or just to read some of your writing. I always keep a link on my blog to everything tagged ‘ask meme’ so if people want to find a meme they have choices!

It seems like there’s a certain aesthetic on these new fangled RP blogs. Do I have to do that?

No! But you can, if you want. If you aren’t good at coding and graphics, there are a lot of RP resource sites that can help you. (Can I recommend this one?) It is nice to have things like a face claim, a nice looking promo, a cool theme, etc. but at the end of the day, we all just want to write and have fun.

Advice?

Look, I’ve only been RPing on Tumblr for a couple of months and I am by NO MEANS an expert. I have gotten all of this knowledge through the help of friends and nice strangers willing to answer questions for me. Here are a few things I have picked up:

Respect people’s rules - We are all shy and all have our own thing going on. If someone says they’re uncomfortable doing one thing, just like...don’t do it.

Talk to other people - Don’t ignore the mun! Unless they really want you to. It’s better to ask questions, compliment writing, talk about your plots and stuff...it’s so much harder than trying to figure out what the other person feels/wants.

Ask questions - I’m a 6th grade teacher, and I get a million and fuckton questions every minute usually. It’s been eye-opening, because now I’m all about asking questions about everything all the time. I think knowledge is amazing. People know all different things, and the most logical way to be a productive society is to share knowledge (that’s one of the main teachings of Surak) so ask some questions! Hell, ask me some questions! Reach out to someone who seems nice!

please read the guidelines too, I say what I will do, what I won’t do, and explain very important things. this page was divided due to eccessive html that was breaking the post. for types of rp icons and screencaps, here.

note: I get all sort of fees from changing money to transferring it because paypal taxes everything, therefore it seems fair to “raise” the price if you pay in usd, considering this is the actual difference:

So, for example, looking at my most expensive type of icons, the 7th C, because the difference seems to be the biggest, you’ll find:

between 100 and 199 icons: 0.15 euro / 0.19 usd. For example for 150 icons would be at 22.5 euro / 28.7 usd instead of 30 euro / 45 usd.

 this may look a big difference on paper. In reality 0,15 euro are 0.18 dollars, and 22.5 euros does equal to 27.65. If I made you pay 0.18 I’d lose money because paypal takes a fee when changing it in euro, this way I only lose a tiny bit if any.  

200 icons of type c? 0.03 euro / 0.041 usd for each, so it will be 6 euro / 8.2 usd. 6 euros actually equals to 7.3 dollars so I’m barely covering the fee.

ARE THERE ANY SALES/DISCOUNTS? 

yes! 

-since Jan 1st, icons from type 7 to type 10 will get a 10% discount on the final price, ‘til date to be determined!

-starter pack of at least 100 icons of any kind (except the base one, in which case it’s 200 icons because the first 100 are free) with psd or not, at least 2 banners, a header = gets you a 15% discount on the final price on top of whatever other discount you can get buying more things that have one, like the psds.

-banners have their own built-in discounts, see below. So do psd, after 100 icons the price is 50% off.

-you’ll find under every icon type the price for each but also the discount for bigger batches of icons, which grows as they go.

Currently I don't have promos nor themes backgrounds here because I'm still preparing examples/seeing what I can do and not do. Same goes for custom html and more things. However you can check my sidebar for links to first promos/theme backgrounds and prices for those "models".

 are 0.2 euro/0.3 usd each if you are buying something else too, you can request transparent ones with something in the background, or pattern backgrounds or special shapes, shadows and glows. If you want all of the above it’s 0.4 euro/0.6 usd.  Because paypal would take most of it, if you are ONLY buying dash icons I will make you five for you to choose and keep, so a pack is either 1 or 2 euros / 1.5 or 3 usd, depending on your choices.

 If you want me to add them to the icons it will be one 0.02 euros/0.025 usd more for every icon (2 euro / 2.5 usd every 100) After the first 100 icons, the rest of the psd price will be cut in a half. 150 psds for your icons would cost 2.5 euro / 3.12 usd instead of 3 euro / 3.75 usd.

-the price stays the same if you offer the icons, seeing as it’s about making the psd, then adding and adjusting the psd to each icon. (pre-made icons must be made by you or by someone who gave you permission to edit. If you credit me somewhere please make clear I only offered the psd).

-1 euro/2.5 usd for each static banner, can be done in similar style or with changes (for example one has a rectangular avatar, one has an oval one). 

-2 euros/3.5 usd for each with overlay.

-4 euro/5.5 usd for each with gif.

I’m thinking that a ‘pack’ could be of five: starter call, open starter, plotting call, headcanons, answers. If you take five or more (those 5 or you may need a different banner I’m not thinking of, like an ooc banner instead of a open starter one? up to you), you get a 10% discount on the final price. -after the first five banners, each additional secondary banner for a different verse will be 40% off; consider that it will likely need different images and colors from the other verse one, so it’s a different new banner. If you want the same identical one and just the name of the verse changes, it will be only 0.4 euro/0.8 usd. 

We’ll need to discuss colors, images, borders, glows, shadows, your url/character name and whatever else you want in it, I want them to be as close as what you want as possible.

headers

I am currently deciding what I can offer, you can see what I have done up until now with headers here. I know I can offer far more options, but if you already like those (and again, obvously it will be a back and forth, you can ask for your url, quotes, tell me whether to add something or not to what I’ll show you) I think it’s safe to say that I’ll ask:

-3 euros/4.5 usd for a header, static or with overlay.

-5 euro/ 6.5 usd for a header with gif.

-7 euro / 8.5 usd for a header with double overlay or gif + overlay. 1 additional euro/2 additional usd for any more gifs or overlays you may want on top

shapes and how many borders/’things’ to add on the basic icon you want will determine in which category the icon you have requested falls and therefore how much it costs.

“Ele, can you make me 150 of your 100px circle icons with semi-transparent border exactly like in 5c, but with your psd H? Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan in episodes 5x8 or 2x9 or 5x10 or all of them...” 

“Sure, once I’m done it it will be 12.25 euro (9,75 for the icons + 2.5 for psd)/ 15,87 usd (12.75 usd for icons + 3.12 for psd). I’ll make you a few examples so you can tell me if it’s okay or I need to change something” 

“Oh I can’t spend more than 10 euro/12 usd!”

“okay, so if you want at least 150 icons with psd you have to put aside 2.5 euro/3.12 usd for it, so let’s see which ones you can get for 7.5 euro or 8.8 usd... up until type 3″ (type 3 in usd is 9.03 but I’ll throw in a few icons for free)

Feel free to ask me questions about ANYTHING! If you want to ask if I can take a commission now (but read my guidelines first!) and you are at loss of what to say, I’d suggest a ‘hi Ele, can you take commissions? I’d need at least X icons (or ‘I don’t know how many icons yet, let’s talk about it later’) of this fc, possibly from these movie/episodes’ this way even if timezones keep us apart I’ll be able to check as soon as possible if I can find resources to do it, if I have the time, etc and come back to discuss aesthetic with you and if maybe there aren’t enough usable caps to make icons depending on their quality and whether you only want close shots or not. Ims, ask and submit are all available. Everything else doesn’t require me looking for many screencaps as icons do, so you can just check 'hey are you open for banners commissions?’ (for example) and later I’ll come ask you about what you’d like. If you see me online after you send the ask and I haven’t replied even just with a 'sorry, super busy now but I’ll get back to you asap’ (probably because looking after my grandfather or too sick to sit up) I didn’t get the ask, try ims or submit or anything because I will not ignore you. I’ll make a commission form soon so I won’t risk losing anything and we’ll skip having to wait for the other to be online, at least for those first details.
