*A Rare Personal Note: This exchange comes after what may be one of the most famous Discworld moments of all time: the conversation where Vimes and Vetinari first discuss the age old question, "Who watches the Watch?", which becomes one of the central threads of Vimes' character progression. But the end of the conversation, which involves the fate of the newly christened Constable Dorfl, strikes me powerfully today. This marks one of the few times in canon that Vimes explicitly rejects one of Vetinari's commands on moral grounds. It also marks a rare moment when Vimes and Vetinari (who are often complex foils for each other) seem to agree on a fundamental point of morality: that a person must be treated as a person, whatever the cost, even if we do not understand them. On the last day of 2023, this seems more important to me than ever. We 4,000 Pratchett fans who share the quotes that fill this blog likely share very little else: If we met on the street we would not agree about politics, religion, the weather, or the correct storage of Battle Bread. But I think that Sir Terry would perhaps want us to remember that, even when we are at our most opposed, we are all made out of clay -- and that is something worth protecting. Some Kalafina Updates

We got a new Kyoichi Sato blog post today and there was brief mention of Kalafina (he probably received a few inquiries and was asked about his opinion). While he kept it quite vague (probably to not step on anyone's toes during these tense circumstances), he still made his joy and support obvious by referring to one of his old blog posts where he shared a lot of his feelings regarding Kalafina.

PS: I would like to talk a little more about Kalafina. Kaji-chan and Mori-san were the ones to cultivate the soil and to sow the seeds but it was the tireless effort of the three members that made this wonderful flower of music bloom to its full potential (and maybe us musicians also contributed a little bit with our slender means). Their hard work is the vertical thread that is running through 10 years worth of music, starting from the theme songs of “Garden of Sinners” right up until their final live at Nippon Budokan. And then we have the fans who have been supporting Kalafina throughout the years, they make up the horizontal thread. Together they are woven into the most beautiful and amazing tapestry. This tapestry is still in my heart and will continue to shine brightly until the end of time. It would make me very happy knowing that for all the fans, Kalafina’s music also represents an ever-lasting beautiful tapestry.

The tapestry talk is a reference to a song called "Ito". Be sure to listen Wakana’s cover of “Ito”.

Other than that, it has been very quiet on the Kalafina front. No social media updates from the girls. Not even any of the regular posts and streams (such as Hi's Youtube updates or her Music Champ live streams). I guess they are still trying to lay low to avoid any more direct backlash. I wonder if we'll get at least a proper video message or something for tomorrow's ticket lottery launch. I mean, they can't remain quiet forever, right?? Let's hope for the best!! *fingers crossed* I'll probably die if I see all three of them interact on video again XD

There seems to be some confusion about the status of my main verse muses, particularly Thursday and Doomsday, so I'm going to make this post and hopefully it helps clear some things up. Also going to post a summary of the #the only way in is the only way out plot I just finished writing, so hopefully that also provides a little bit of clarity. Keeping in mind, this is my MAIN VERSE, so that means this is what is happening with the heart of my blog. Anything happening outside of this with Thursday, Doomsday, and the rest of the Haunted Office is considered AU - which is fine! But just keep that in mind.

Main verse Thursday is currently deceased. She died in the Office when the energy jet struck her, and permanently died in Dimension 42 when she (her soul) ascended and joined the collective of other Thursdays known as the Narrative. So, yes, she is deceased, dead, fully gone from this world as of right now. She is not permanently gone, though, and will return in a new body, but she is not back YET, so as far as anybody's muses should know at THIS POINT, she is DEAD. If your muse is responding to her in the main verse and they knew her, then you can have them respond however you feel they would respond. That is up to you to decide. (Threads that were started before these events, though, are excluded from all this.)

Main verse Doomsday is currently out of the Office. She has left to be on her own for a little while because she is heavily grieving. She does not wish to be contacted by anybody. She is not answering any texts or calls. She may answer from certain people, but it really depends on who it is that's trying to reach her and what's said. Again, it is entirely up to you if you decide your muse would notice that she has been quiet and that they would try to reach out to her. Otherwise, she isn't visiting or speaking to anybody unless I have sent her to your inbox. (Threads that were started before these events are also excluded from this.)

I don't know what all anybody has read or hasn't read. I can't make anybody read the things I post on my blog. It is a little frustrating, I admit, to not know who has read what, because to me, all I can see is that nobody's muses are reacting to Thursday being dead and Doomsday's absence. But - I don't know if that's because people don't want to be involved with the plot due to triggers and whatnot, or if that's because people's muses are not noticing or what. I can't make assumptions, so that's why I'm making this post, and hopefully that will catch everyone up to speed, and then you guys can make these decisions. I can't make anybody participate in things they don't want to participate in, and I will respect that. But I will need to know if our interactions going forward will be main verse or AU.

That said, here is a timeline of the events that took place during the plot, so that you might be able to make a better informed decision. Hopefully it isn't too long, but here it is:

Doomsday jumped into a black hole because she wanted to experience what it was like to be spaghettified by one. In doing so, she was ripped apart, which threw her Dampening energy soul everywhere, opened a rift, and pulled it all through into the Office when she respawned there.

The energy jet of her energy spewed out by the black hole erupted down the 210 hallway of the Office once the rift opened there upon Doomsday’s respawn attempt. Thursday was “called” into hallway, where she stepped into the energy jet, and was killed.

Both Thursday and Doomsday are stuck in a continuous respawn process by the jet as it remains in the hallway at the Office.

Dorian is in a lot of pain as the energy jet is piercing two exterior walls along with multiple interior walls.

Both Thursday and Doomsday have found themselves in Dimension 42, a realm of staircases. The staircase they are on is an endless one encased in a tower made of white bricks, stretching off infinitely up and down.

The Narrative begins speaking to Thursday and tells her that she is dead, and that she is to ascend the staircase.

It’s revealed that Cyrus witnessed on the video recording of the energy jet manifesting in the Office, that Thursday stepped into the blast rather than stepping away from it.

The Narrative reveals Themself to Doomsday and explains that They needed her to open the doorway for both she and Thursday to enter Dimension 42. Doomsday is unhappy with this knowledge and breaks out of the staircase tower, only to discover she can’t escape.

Thursday continues her ascent of the tower, seemingly happy and content with her journey. The Narrative asks if she’d like to stay there with Them and become a part of Them, revealing that Dimension 42 is a dimension where all Thursdays go when they die, and that They themself are a collective of Thursdays that Thursday may join if she chooses to ascend.

The Narrative speaks further with Doomsday, to clarify Their intentions. They reveal that all the other Thursday souls Doomsday had been previously bonded with when Doomsday was a ghost are now a part of The Narrative, explaining the same to her that They did to Thursday. They explain that choosing to ascend and join the collective means choosing to die, and that They will be with her and support her decision no matter what.

Thursday is still ascending the staircase. The Narrative explains that the process of ascension is individual to each person and only that person will know when they are ready. After hours of traveling the staircase, Thursday is stricken by painful memories of when her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness and is almost rendered unable to continue. The Narrative firmly encourages her to get back up and continue ascending. After much struggling, Thursday is able to continue, only to discover a few steps later that her struggles are only beginning.

September, antagonized by Oleander (who is in her phone, which is floating around inside her gelatinous body), makes a bold move and enters the energy jet in search of a way into the rift to see if she can retrieve Thursday and Doomsday from wherever they ended up.

While ascending, Doomsday is reminiscing about her life and realizing that there is too much she missed about it while she was a ghost. She realizes she does not want to die. She expresses this to The Narrative and also tells Them that she wants to take Thursday back home too, at which points she is told she cannot, that Thursday must make her own choice. Doomsday refuses to let it go at that. The Narrative tells her that she must figure it out on her own then, but hints that she is on the wrong stairs. Doomsday breaks out of the staircase again, finds Thursday’s stairs on the opposite side of her own, and runs off to find her.

Thursday continues her ascent of the staircase, encountering voices from her past criticizing her. She nearly gives up, but The Narrative encourages her to "Rise" and "Ascend". She is finally able to get back up and continue, at which point she transforms into The Narrative itself, and has finally ascended.

Doomsday is running up the stairs when the tower breaks apart. She falls and ends up back in the Office, screaming for Thursday, who she wasn't able to reach.

September is also thrown back out of Dimension 42, but not before witnessing the cosmic horror that Thursday has become, although she doesn't recognize her as such. She lands back in the Office on top of Doomsday, squishing her, much to her dismay.

Doomsday and September are drawn outside by Dorian, who has witnessed a strange thing in the sky. Doom recognizes that the thing is Thursday, now The Narrative. They have a brief talk, where Thursday says they should all start a new narrative and go from there.

That is basically the end, although this story has no real end, because it's only the beginning.

Enjoy a dribble??? o: This is from a weird little world that floats around in the back in my head from time to time. I haven't wanted to fully flesh it out yet, but writing these news reports and blog posts following the birth of an Old God reborn (and an incident they might've caused later in life) was a fun little world-building exercise, ngl~ c:

The Sun Burned Bright At Midnight.

The residents of Gravehill were surprised by an unusual phenomena Yarasday night. A sun-like object suddenly appeared in the night sky, lighting up the town as if it was a hot summer afternoon. The winter-bundled residents were bewildered by the sudden flash, resulting in numerous traffic collisions, injuries and a lingering sense of insomnia in some.

While puzzled at first by the light, it wasn’t long before the cause was located. The timing coincided perfectly with the birth of a child at Mercy Vale General Hospital. A spokesperson for The Accord of the Seven-Threaded confirmed it this morning: an Old God was indeed reborn. This will be the sixth Old God rebirth in just as many years, but the spokesperson assured the public there was nothing to worry about.

“The Old Gods have always existed, and will kept existing until this universe burns out. While this uptick is highly unusual, it’s not unheard and it is nowhere near the record of consecutive rebirths.” The current record is in fact nineteen in the course of twelve years, set back in 367 PF.

The spokesperson continued though. “We’re already in contact with their parents, and steps are being taken to set them up with all the resources they’ll need. We may no longer have a need for the Old Gods, but we still should respect them and treat them no differently from each other."

It should be noted that most people don’t materialize new suns at midnight. However, the new sun has already disappeared and the family is in talks of being relocated to a safer area. And despite the uptick, it is rare to see any other old magic after the rebirth.

Let’s hope the newest Old God continues with this trend.

Hope Springs To Be A New Tether.

Hope Springs, a small island community up North, has been confirmed to be the latest Tether chosen. With the rapid increase in the Old God rebirths, triple anything we’ve seen in the last three hundred years, some say The Accord is struggling to keep hold Tether locations. The stockpile has run dry, according to an inside source.

The same source also reported that Hope Springs offered itself up as a potential Tether. As an island community, it has natural boundaries that make the Tether easier to set up and reinforce. There’s also speculation that having an Old God among its midst will be a boon to the slowly dying tourist hub. The Mayor certainly seemed enthusiastic, in a press conference yesterday afternoon.

“Hope Springs has always had a soft spot for the Old Ways, operating one of the oldest Seven-Threaded Churches in this country. It would be an honor to be chosen as a Tether, and we’re more than happy to make our newest family feel welcomed and at home here.”

It’s a hopeful sign, and we wish Hope Springs best of luck as a Tether is being set up. We all know how difficult a task it can be after Aresdale’s troubles setting up theirs. But the Accord has assured the public that natural boundaries make the process almost seamless.

“It Felt Like Every Molecule Exploded Around Us.”

It’s a line we’re all heard by now. A video from one of the Wilfail Narrows Bridge survivors went viral over the weekend, as they manically tried to explain what happened during the disaster. Fifty-two people lost their lives when the bridge had a catastrophic failure last Ohnesday, with another one hundred fifteen injured.

All the stories collected though seemingly paint a confusing picture to what exactly happened. The bridge showed no signs of failure previously. While the details from the survivors and onlookers are muddled, the failure appears to have happened in a blink of an eye and the few near the epicenter all describe a loud popping sound, like all the molecules of air around them exploded at once and simply leveled the bridge itself.

Given the Wilfail Narrows Bridge is the main road to Hope Springs, many have questioned if its local Old God had anything to do with it. It’s been roughly eleven years since the Tether was placed, and things have been relatively quiet since. The location of the Old God has been suspiciously absent from reports, even when asked by reporters. “We will not comment on the location one of our community's children, especially given the tragedy at hand,” said the Mayor.

There will be a public candlelight vigil held on the 6th at the Sunset Plaza.

Edit: The Morningtide Gazette apologizes for the commentary made by Mr. Fray. The implication of a child causing such a disaster, and willingly, falls well below our journalistic integrity. We’ve chosen to edit that section out, and we deeply apologize to the victims and their families for this baseless tabloid speculation.

“Madness To Pretend Otherwise.”

The idea of Old Gods reborn is such a misnomer. The Old Gods have never entered this reality, and never will. We know they are simply incompatible with our realm, and thus stay away. Are they kind enough to realize that they would unravel the laws of our universe, or do they simply fear their powers will be suppressed if they crossed over?

We’ll never know, and the Churches have been fighting over that idea for eons. What we do know is this: what we call reborn Old Gods are simple humans, like everyone else. The magic that causes such phenomena like midnight suns and sand tsunamis are because of a fragmented sliver of the Old God that slipped through realities, and those fragments enjoy attaching themselves to newly born infants.

There’s a debate to be had that the Old Gods of Old were the same: humans possessing the same fragments. Without the Tether, it’s hard for the modern souls to fathom the powers these humans could wield. They would’ve felt like True Entities, and perhaps without a Tether, they were more entuned with our Gods Beyond the Sea. We simply don’t know, and that's because from birth itself, we’re deemed problematic and are clipped at the wings for the sake of the greater good.

And I understand why, more than any of you will. Have you dull the sun because the hangover hit you too strong? Dance on the atoms, up into the sky, without a worry of falling? Seen existence born into life, and decay in the next? Neither have I, but part of me remembers. Part of me longs to connect to something bigger than myself. I crave it, deeper and darker than you can imagine.

But often, I wonder, is that because of the fragment resting in my soul? Or, is it the isolation I’ve been forced to suffer my whole life because of my birth? If you were able to look out and see lights and people and connection, a world living without you, wouldn’t you want to touch it too?

If that one did cause the bridge collapse, it is a pity. Truly. It’s a tragedy. But, I still understand the compulsion to leave intimately. We all want to leave. It’s madness to pretend otherwise.

[ 01. THE ENTITY ] + first, let me describe The Entity to the best of my ability. ever since henry's conception, this aspect of his story has remained unchanged. i've always appreciated the concepts of an "other" and "vessels." so, from that point forward, henry grew as a character. with that said, i've always had a shaky concept of the entity. however, with this new revival of henry ( and some newly watched films ), i've finally pinpointed how i want to attack and describe The Entity. again, please be aware that anything written in this section is subject to change and is still being explored. the biggest thing to note is that henry is meant to be the real-life personification of the Pride Sin and how it manifests in humanity/human beings. now, please let me know if you see something wrong, would like to add suggestions, or have any questions !

HOW WAS THE ENTITY CREATED ? according to scholars, the first documented transgression against divine law was the existence of Pride. The Entity was created during the creation of the universe. it's said that on day one, god created the existence of light. the two creations, darkness ( already in existence ), were separated into day and night with the order of evening before morning, signifying the liturgical day. unbeknownst to god, Pride waited, hiding in the darkness. after finishing the creation of the universe, Pride took its moment and began to roam the universe freely.

DISCOVERING THE ENTITY. from then on, Pride mainly went undetected until it caused the "destruction" of Eve and Lucifer. with such a grand violation, it was only a matter of time before god finally became aware of its presence. embarrassed by his grave mistake, god took to finding the Pride entity. once found, god decided to place the entity in a host. god moved it from host to host ( usually an angel or something of similar power ) to prevent the entity from becoming accustomed to its host. however, god realized this wasn't sustainable or productive, especially for his angels, so he decided to try something new.

WHAT'S ITS PURPOSE ? the overall purpose of The Entity is to spread chaos across the universe and remove all of the good in humanity. this includes, for example, humility, charity, and kindness. when there is too much pride, there is a sense of entitlement and false ego. to accomplish this feat, The Entity thrives best within a host. once inside a host, it can learn every detail concerning the host's overall personality. by knowing the host's personality, it can pick out the traits best suited for it to accomplish its plans.

WHAT'S NEXT ? enter the protagonist of our story: henry. god decided to test out a human host to finally rid himself of The Entity. by placing The Entity within henry, god enacted a type of "divine punishment." this punishment was established based on how henry chose to act during his human life ( aka exhibiting every sign of being an overly prideful human ). from then on, god has monitored henry and The Entity.

[ 02. THE ENTITY AND HENRY ] + now that i've outlined some "basics" regarding The Entity, this section will explore the relationship between henry and The Entity. among that, i will also continue to supplement more info regarding The Entity.

for The Entity, any host is usually a means to an end. once inside a host, The Entity looks to pinpoint any openings that it can use to its advantage. however, after being placed in henry, things were different. The Entity felt a sense of stability and ease inside henry. his body had no push-back or adverse reactions despite the inherent resurrection sickness once he was resurrected. despite The Entity's overall desire to use its host, that was absent with henry.

WHAT IS THE ENTITY ? for the most part, The Entity has remained genderless. anytime it is referenced ( outside of with henry ), it is usually referred to as it/its. however, after residing within henry, it began to feel female-aligned. this aspect is still being explored, yet the best way for me to describe it refers to a relationship with the jujutsu kaisen universe ( loosely think yuta and rika ). the idea is that The Entity has developed more than a host-parasite relationship with henry. it develops a romantic inclination for henry, therefore taking on female-aligned pronouns. she becomes equally possessive and protective over henry. she tends to react within henry ( to which he can feel or sense ) whenever he is threatened or when she feels jealous. their bond is only strengthened the longer she remains in him and after they merge.

a quick note: they can and do, occasionally, communicate with one another. it's usually silent, but the one way you can tell when henry is speaking with The Entity is based on how quiet he gets or if he's staring into a specific space for an extended period. initially, henry ignores the entity, but the longer she stays, the more they communicate. after a while, she slowly brings comfort to henry, especially in times of stress or anger.

ultimately, the bond between henry and The Entity deepens the longer the two remain intertwined. although The Entity means no harm to henry, its nature begins to take hold. slowly, it starts to consume henry from the inside. due to this, henry attempts to find a way to separate them. however, when he comes up short, henry embraces The Entity. slowly, they become one, and there is no sign of where henry ends and The Entity begins.

[ 03. POST-MERGE ] + this section will be relatively short and sweet. considering this is still being explored, please take everything written here with a grain of salt. i will list the most important things or the things i know that won't change. however, if, when writing together, i say something contrarian to this section, just roll with it. i a) have yet to explore Henry post-merge and b) haven't written out what i want to happen post-merge, so it's completely experimental. again, if you have any questions, feel free to just ask.

WHAT HAPPENS TO HENRY ? henry still appears very much the same when the merge or "resurrection" is complete. as noticed in annihilation, lena and kane's eyes seem different. while lena's time with The Shimmer permanently changes her DNA, the real version of kane dies and is replaced by the version created by The Shimmer. with that said, the only noticeable difference in henry after his merge with The Entity is the change in his eyes. they appear a freckled hazel with amber rings around the iris, a sign of him being other ( especially to other supernatural creatures ).

overall, henry still looks the same. however, now that he has reached a state of transcendence, he has to learn how to appreciate the simple, "human" life he lived as an immortal. there are moments when he will be quite apathetic, especially toward humans, simply because of his new state of existence. as for powers, henry only retains some from his time as an immortal and takes on all of The Entity's abilities.

I did read up on what the world of Avatar would do to accommodate and I really like your research there. But this is a realm that I’d be going into (pardon the expression) blindly. Even if our paths never cross writing wise, I’d still love to know tips on how to write with muses who cannot hear for other potential encounters as the last thing I want to do is accidents come off ableist.

Was about to head to bed, but I needed to answer this asap. I am so happy that you asked! To be honest, writing with a deaf character is not as hard as you might think it is. The thing I have to stress though is that you have to be willing and open to changing how you write dialogue.

There have been so many times people write as if their characters understand what my characters are saying perfectly when their character is not deaf/hard of hearing. Yes, their character may know sign language, but unless that is the character's first language, they are not going to be fluent in sign language. I've had people headcanon that their character uses language to help their communication because they're autistic, but that doesn't mean they're fluent. Most hearing people that use sign language to help them communicate, unless they're mute, typically aren't fluent.

When I say to change up how you write dialogue, I mean to let your character struggle with the dialogue and communication. A lot of times when we write, we think that everything our characters say have to be perfect or make complete sense. That's bs regardless of what language you're writing. Have fun with it and let your characters mess up.

Feel free to check out this thread with @bndair (between Choden and Aang) for a great example of that back and forth of miscommunication. Of them not knowing exactly what's being said to one another. To me, it's written like any other type of language barrier between characters. Just that one happens to be deaf.

You can also check out this one with @thesleuthyone (between Keokuk and Sokka) where they use paper to communicate. A nice and simple solution to a language barrier.

Again, it's the continued aspect of your character not knowing everything, but willing to try. Along with the fact that you as the writer are not afraid to have them be confused and unknowing in those situations. That you're willing to write them messing up a sign, or slowly learning how to. Cause honestly? One wrong misplacement of your hand or a finger in sign language, or even the movement of your hand, and you're signing something completely different than what you intended. So it's just something to keep in mind when writing with a deaf character.

You also have to keep in mind that deaf people have their own culture. Just like any other language. So don't assume that you know. Don't think that you know more than a deaf/hoh person, because you don't. Most of it is about your level of understanding, and being able to accept that you don't know everything. Along with the fact that you are willing to learn.

Aside from that, writing with a deaf character is not going to be much different that writing with a hearing character. Deaf people are just like anyone else. There's just a language barrier where you can learn to sign, but they can't learn to hear. They can fight, they can read (yes some people think deaf people can't read), they can drive, etc. They only thing they can't to that hearing people can, is hear.

Lastly, heres another post I did that's somewhat about this on my other blog, and a helpful post about a point I made above. About how you can very easily sign things incorrectly.

Whenever you are writing with someone that had deaf/hoh muses, and you're not sure about something, just ask. We don't want to help you interact with our characters as much as possible. So have that open communication with your partner and you shouldn't have a problem.

i - in general - am a sucker for writing romantic relationships. i like to write the silly little tropes, i like to write how a character is feeling when they're kissed for the first time... what it's like to fall in love. the slow burn or the pining...

HOWEVER, give me a good platonic relationship between character, too. a group of people coming together despite their differences, someone initially not liking a character realizing that they had the wrong idea.... friends getting to do silly things together just because they can.

both are incredibly enjoyable to me. : )

i'd like to do more antagonistic interactions but i've never been all that great at action related rp,,, but i am not immune to the drama of it all. :tm:

sometimes but not always.

not every ask has to be turned into a thread, and sometimes it's just fun to see how a character responds to something as a one off thing. of course, i'm always down to continue asks as treads and if anyone ever asks me i won't say no, lol. but i wouldn't say i expect it at all.

as for my reasoning... i send a lot of memes to people and while i usually will turn at least one or two into a thread ( esp if i'm sending a meme/ask as a way to interact w/ the blog for the first time ) we would both end up with flooded drafts bc i will continue sending a mountain of asks and memes.

9. when you look at a new blog, what is it that makes you press the follow button ? is it the muse, the aesthetics, the writing– ?

i am very much the type of person that will follow someone even if the character is from a fandom i'm not familiar with at all. i usually will look to see if there's an about / rules page - especially an about if i'm not familiar w/ the character the series is from, lol.

after that i'll usually look at the writing to see if our writing styles will go well together. bc sometimes peoples writing styles don't mesh... and that's ok !!

after that point... if i can imagine our characters interacting well i'll usually hit the follow button.

i'm someone that puts a lot of time into my aesthetics for the blog - but i don't really expect it from others... i've been rping on tumblr since ~fancy layouts~ were the norm and people wouldn't really give you the time of day if you had a boring layout. as long as i can navigate through pages and i can tell where the links are.... i do not care at all.
