f1 drivers as tracks from the tortured poets department: a very abridged and very biased list.
DISCLAIMER: this is all for fun and should be taken very lightheartedly. Not all drivers were included, but I am open to suggestions as well as constructive criticism.
Without further ado:
CHARLES LECLERC - I Can Do It With A Broken Heart
Absolutely suicidal lyrics that should be mildly concerning but all in all very upbeat and makes you want to run around doing side quests. Such as write an album, or open an ice cream shop. I'm thinking this is specifically 2022 Charles when he trusted no one at Ferrari, or mid-2023 when everyone was calling him washed and calling for his teammate to be n1 driver, and then he proceeded to put it on pole in a tractor multiple times and still hasn't finished outside the top 5 since. Either way, I am looking forward how this song will hit when Charles gets his eventual championship.
MAX VERSTAPPEN - Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?
This one is for Mad Max, who was thrust onto the world stage as an untested young prodigy at seventeen, who was called too young and immature and proceeded to win a GP upon debut in a top team, who was called Crashtappen from 2015-2019 and labelled as overly aggressive to his detriment, who was painted as a villain by every media outlet and documentary and DTS episode, who said "fuck the haters" and won championships anyway, who broke records, and made his own national anthem the expected song for every podium. A driver who is fast approaching greatest of all time status, for his win streaks alone. A driver that most others now just shrug about, because there's no shame in not choosing to fight the inevitable.
LEWIS HAMILTON - So Long, London
Ah, the heart-wrenching track of letting go of your long-term British relationship that doesn't serve you anymore. So many lyrics from here I could apply to the rumoured break down of amicable relations between Lewis and Mercedes, the team he won six championships with. From "My spine split from carrying us up the hill" to "I didn't opt in to be your odd man out. I founded the club she's heard great things about" to "you say I abandoned the ship But I was going down with it. My white-knuckle dying grip. Holding tight to your quiet resentment". Honestly, I could copy and paste all the lyrics here and they would apply to Lewis' Merc swan song. Taylor wrote "you swore that you loved me but where were the clues, I died on the altar waiting for the proof." about Abu Dhabi 2021.
CARLOS SAINZ - The Prophecy
Carlos has been delivering some of the best drives of his career this season, but it doesn't matter because he's not the chosen one, he's not il predestinato, he's not the son of Maranello. No matter what he does, he would never have kept that Ferrari seat over the mythos of Charles Leclerc. "Let it once be me. Who do I have to speak to, to redo the prophecy?"
LANDO NORRIS - Guilty as Sin?
Specifically given for half-flirting with Red Bull for most of last season, only to shake himself out of it and re-sign with McLaren, but I have one eye on him, not entirely sure he's given up on the Red Bull daydream, and Red Bull have been open about wanting to get him, if they can. It's all on Lando to stay faithful.
OSCAR PIASTRI - Fresh Out the Slammer
Piastrigate continues to inspire and compel an entire generation of F1 fans, and as such should form the basis of Oscar's song selection. What was the promises that Alpine made him, if not "Gray and blue and fights and tunnels Handcuffed to the spell I was under For just one hour of sunshine"
FERNANDO ALONSO - Florida!!!
Florida!!! is a big and powerful song about being a Shakespearean villain with a History and questionable morals and motives. Who is that if not Fernando Alonso? "Tell me I'm despicable, say it's unforgivable." "Is that a bad thing to say in a song?"
LANCE STROLL - But Daddy I Love Him
Yeah this one is self-indulgent and too good to resist. He's singing it about Fernando btw. Next.
DANIEL RICCIARDO - Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus
Someone is getting that Red Bull seat next year, and every name is on the list except Daniel Ricciardo. "As the decade played us for fools, you saw my bones out with somebody new." Who knows what would have happened if Daniel hadn't left Red Bull, all those years ago? "Just say you loved me the way you were" Oof. We could spend years living in the What Ifs of it all.

This tournament is being run by and for queer fans so please keep that in mind! Homophobes will be blocked on sight <3 More polls here and more info and lyrics for the songs under the cut!
The question is which song is queerer to you! Queerer can mean whatever you want it to mean; you might consider a song queer because you think it was written that way, or because of Swiftian lore. It might be queer to you because of how you relate it to your own life. Maybe you think from a purely literary standpoint the lyrics have queer themes; maybe you're just thinking about vibes!!!
If you’d like to send in interpretations or propaganda for a specific song you can send them to my inbox! All interpretations are welcome and let’s be open and kind in response to all interpretations <3

Suburban Legends lyrics
You had people who called you on unmarked numbers
In my peripheral vision
I let it slide like a hose on a slippery plastic summer
All was quickly forgiven
You were so magnetic, it was almost obnoxious
Flush with the currency of cool
I was always turning out my empty pockets
And when it came to you
I didn't come here to make friends
We were born to be suburban legends
When you hold me, it holds me together
And you kiss me in a way that's gonna screw me up forever
I had the fantasy that maybe our mismatched star signs
Would surprise the whole school
When I ended up back at our class reunion
Walking in with you
You'd be more than a chapter in my old diaries
With the pages ripped out
I am standing in a 1950s gymnasium
And I can still see you now
I didn't come here to make friends
We were born to be suburban legends
When you hold me, it holds me together
And you kiss me in a way that's gonna screw me up forever
I know that you still remember
We were born to be national treasures
When you told me we'd get back together
And you kissed me in a way that's gonna screw me up forever
Tick-tock on the clock, I pace down your block
I broke my own heart 'cause you were too polite to do it
Waves crash on the shore, I dash to the door
You don't knock anymore, and my whole life's ruined
Tick-tock on the clock, I pace down your block
I broke my own heart 'cause you were too polite to do it
Waves crash to the shore, I dash to the door
You don't knock anymore, and I always knew it
And my life had been ruined

New Romantics lyrics
We're all bored, we're all so tired of everything
We wait for trains that just aren't coming
We show off our different scarlet letters
Trust me, mine is better
We're so young, but we're on the road to ruin
We play dumb, but we know exactly what we're doing
We cry tears of mascara in the bathroom
Honey, life is just a classroom
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah
'Cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come along with me
Heart break is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free
We're all here, the lights and noise are blinding
We hang back, it's all in the timing
It's poker, he can't see it in my face
But I'm about to play my ace
We need love, but all we want is danger
We team up and switch sides like a record changer
The rumors are terrible and cruel
But, honey, most of them are true
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah
'Cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come along with me
Heart break is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free
So come on, come along with me
The best people in life are free
Please take my hand and
Please take me dancing and
Please leave me stranded, it's so romantic (It's so romantic)
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah
Oh, 'cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
Every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
'Cause, baby, I could build a castle (Castle)
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come along with me
Heart break is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free

What are the batfamily's thoughts on Taylor Swift?
I think Bruce would dislike her the most but not because he thinks she's bad, but because his kids listen to her so much and people *cough* Dick *cough* talk about her incessantly that it's become annoying and if he hears Dick scream "Hey, I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 22!" at the top of his lungs one more time he's going to lash out.
Damian probably pretends he doesn't like her. I don't think he listens to Taylor, but after Dick forced him to listen to every single song on the Folklore album he's gained some respect for her writing, that album is really relatable, many songs talk about mental health and some other stuff I think Damian would relate to.
Jason, on the other hand, is the secret swiftie. He tells eveyone his favorite band is some rock or heavy metal one like ACDC (which he does like) but meanwhile he's listening to the Speak Now and Reputation albums on repeat.
Cass probably doesn't care about Taylor that much, but she laughs at Bruce's misery and listens to her songs if it means she can spend more time with her siblings and has something to talk about with them.
I think Tim has some very crazy musical taste. I can imagine him having zero playlists, he just hits shuffle on his library and goes for it. So he likes Taylor's songs, but probably wouldn't be able to name her. He's like "oh yeah I like that song, I have it saved on by library but I have no idea of who the singer/band of this one is".
Babs likes Taylor and she has no shame on admitting that. Dick is the one who turned her, obviously. I think she would sit on an armchair, curled up with a book and listen to Evermore as she reads.
Stephanie doesn't think Taylor is bad, but she probably doesn't like her as much as some of the other members of family do. Maybe she has like, five Taylor songs in her library that she (secretly, she didn't want him to know and freak out) saw Jason listen to that she couldn't deny were good, but she doesn't activelly listens to Taylor.
Alfred, well, he isn't a pop guy, but he obviously knows eveything that there is to know about Taylor because Dick is a millenial and he would spend hours talking about Taylor to Aflie when Bruce got tired of him.
He got curious one day and listened to some of her songs. They weren't his taste but he gets why Dick likes her.
I don't know much about Duke's personality to know for sure but I think he likes her, he probably has a pop playlist on his phone and Taylor is there along with other artists he likes. He’s a casual fan, doesn't know anything about her life but enjoys some of her music.
And finally the ultimate #1 Swiftie, Dick Grayson. He's obsessed with Taylor and has been listening her music since the vey beggining. Knows every song and the meaning behind them, knows everything about Taylor life and the drama stories and calls Taylor and Travis his parents, which makes Bruce extremelly ofended.
He bugs his entire family about the latest Taylor nation news, tells jokes like "I'm in my junk food era" and "you never get out of style, baby", tries to insert Taylor references in every conversations, would absolutely be that friend who would tell you to name your baby Rebekah or Marjorie and broke a coffee mug when he found out Jason liked Taylor, hugging him excitedly.

Really interesting article about Taylor/TTPD in the nation thenationdotcom/article/culture/taylor-swift-tortured-poets-department/
oooh excellent find bestie, thank you - and i love that this writer picked up the a plot, b plot, and c plot (depressed boy, chaotic boy, precocious girl), as we've been discussing them here!
notable quotes:
this excellent observation about so long london: The song’s bridge (a London bridge?) adds, emphasizing the singer’s American-style r’s: “It isn’t right to be scared / Every day of a love affair… / When you’re not sure if he wants to be there.”
The Taylor Swift we meet on The Tortured Poets Department needs to be seen, fears vanishing under the water or below the ice (see “The Bolter”) if she’s not heard and admired, and yet she knows that the strain of constant performance could destroy anyone, even her.
How does it feel to receive, from such a young age, such great rewards for being and doing what other people expect? (Swift was born in 1989; her first album came out in 2006.) How does it feel to become a public symbol of pop success or romantic distress (see “The Prophecy”)? Can she ever stop? But how can she go on?
In this sense, Swift —who famously induces fans to buy more and more records—comes across as an engine of capitalism, its creation but also its victim. Her participation in the world economy, her ability to give us product, to produce the feelings we demand, becomes part of her identity.
Follow your romantic, erotic heart. But do not give up the rest of your life for love; do not hang your happiness or your future on a particular boy.

Taylor Swift and her terrible 2's and 12's
Taylor Swift has just been Nominated for 2 more VMA's
1 for song of the summer (fortnight) and the 2nd is for her performance in 2009 - the same year as the incident on stage. This gives her a total of 12 nominations
2 days after the incident Taylor says "he who must not be named" Apologized to her on ABC Radio
Taylor Nation said "Double Days" in their newest VMA voting post. Double is 2
Tumblr media
This weeks TikTok bead for Self-Titled you watched Taylor on the Eras Tour sing, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart (where she says And Nobody Even Knows) (in the video you watch she is doing the same lift as the I did Something Bad lift during rep tour. Every other dance in ICDIWABH performance at the eras tour matches other eras tour dances except the lift) the same video you watch for last weeks bead for Fearless Taylors Version. Thats 2 times we watch the same clip. (The clip was posted on 5/26 5+2+6=13) It's strange because she didn't have a sound for reputation bead, or a name on the profile frame just a snake, and there is no offical frame for Self-Titled, just certified swiftie (this could be because taylor nation is giving away tickets and they wanted a sound, but nothing is not on purpose for them) Is there no self-titled frame because a Taylors Version one could be coming?
And she sang I did something bad N6 in London, she laughed and smiled when she sings "they never see it coming what I do next"
The Self-Titled Bead lasts for 2 weeks instead of 1 like the others. And Ends on September 12th (day after the VMA's)
It takes a snake 2 weeks (14 days) (or a fortnight) to shed its skin.
In the ME! music video the snake bursts into butterflies
There is 2 Self-Titled Eras Albums (Taylor Swift and Beautiful Eyes)
She has 2 unreleased Taylor's Version Main Albums (not including Beautiful Eyes and Taylor Swift The Holiday Collection)
Taylor has been holding up a lot of 2's (even after TTPD was released) on the Eras Tour
On the Taylor Swift Store Self-Titled and Reputation T-shirts are listed next to each other. *during the august summer sale* The 2 unreleased taylors versions albums. Both priced 33.75 3+3=6 7+5=12. A couple things 6 is reputation. 12 is December, the month of Taylor's birthday. Then 6 upside down is 9. That is 9/12. Same day the Self-Titled Bead Ends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only 2 other shirts are that price (33.75) on Taylor Swift .com. Midnights and Karma. Midnights is the album she announced on August 28 2022 at the VMA's. Karma is thought to be the "Lost Album" Thats 4 shirts. 4 is divisible by 2. Taylor Nation is known to use prices as hints, or referencing something like when the tickets to the Eras Tour film were 19.89 like her birth year / album.
Taylor / Taylor Nation / TikTok changed the bead's name from Debut to Self-Titled on August 28, the same day Taylor Announced Midnights 2 years ago. (They changed it to self-titled after it had been called Debut since the start of Tiktok Beads in June, which is strange why they didnt start it with Self-Titled)
Taylor Nation posted on Twiter that their sleep schedule still hasnt recovered when talking about the VMA's this year. They also said that twice in January. And sleep schedules being messed up all started at the VMA's when Midnights was announced.
The Midnights Room is right next to The Tortured Poets Department where all the clocks are set to 2, there are 2 desks etc. (The tortured poets department seems to be a mirror dimension, that Taylor shatters when she hits the 2 way mirror towards the end. Otherwise she walks the other way in the mirror dimension to sit in the department.)
The Time Table only had 2 days set for announcements, with the rest covered by a picture of Taylor Swift announcing variant's on the Eras Tour. She uses 2 exclamation points where she says "8PM ET Music Video Release!!"
There is 2 closed doors. Midnights and Tortured Poets Department. The Tortured Poets department room is NOT opened. We went through the key hole.
Meredith is on the cork board in there.
The photo of Taylor and Meredith is reversed. The date of release of TTPD is 4/19. If you flip the date (or read it backwards on the timetable) it is 914 or September 14. 2 days after the beads end on TikTok.
Taylor Nation made a post where they show they might have a secret account called not Meredith grey swift. With I can do it with a broken heart playing with the tag 'WHERE'S MEREDITH" which was probably the reference to the i can do it with a broken heart music video, you find her in the TTPD room.
There were 2 Doors on the Eras Tour. 1 Orange door would drop down during Karma. Then a 2nd one would drop down that was bright pink rectangle. It would drop down during the end of Karma when the dancers and Taylor Bow. Some of the dancers would walk through the pink "door" to backstage while it was glowing. Taylor would take her final bow and descend. The glowing door would move across like an elevator door and reveal the Orange Door again. And then disintegrate into sparkling dust (like the Karma music video, there is sparkling dust that comes out of the record player, that plays Self-Titled with butterflies and the dust she blows across when shes on the yellow brick road towards the hourglass, that looks like the infinity symbol. The same infinity symbol with the sparkling dust thats created on the Eras tour stage of the TTPD set when she sings Down Bad). The 2 doors only lasted for what I can find, 12 days of the Eras Tour. TS12. Her next album is 12. The door turns 3 dimensional and moves with the colors of all her albums/ the Lover Rooms Colors. Specifically the look of the blurry lights when you first enter through the peep hole to the lover house, that is closed off to the rest of the house.(we enter through the lover house by peep hole and to the ttpd room by keyhole)
The line the door comes down is the colors purple blue and white. the door is orange. Blue and white is 1989 tv. Purple and Orange are the Lost Album? (or the original colors of reputation) She posted in her fortnight video purple nails sewing something orange with pink flowers. She also has lilac skirt and orange feathers for rehearsal of I can do it with a broken heart.
The Line also reminds me of the bright Blue T that is during repuration when all the other taylors are trying to pull her down.
Taylor announces and then releases an album 2 months later. eg. Speak Now in May, released in July. If the VMA's were an option and still the original date of September 10 2 months later would be November 10. November 10 2017 rep was released. The VMA's changed from September 10th to the 11th on August 12th. Which means Taylor may have planned an announcement at the VMA's. Will she do something on September 11th or not is not known.
That would have had the beads end 2 days later, on the 12th. TS12, and then moving into the 13th week where she could have something on the 13th and 14th?
She was also wearing THIS IS NOT TAYLORS VERSION shirt on night 7. Holding up 55 - 55 is an angel number meaning Change. she also made 3 0's which could be and ellipsis. so shes Saying Change..., like ...Ready for it?.
Change x Long Live were played night 7 in London (SAME AS 55 during 22, which could mean CHANGE). Change is the 13th track and Long Live the 14th. The 13th and 14th could be possible dates if she does the 2 days later. The lights on the bracelets in the stadium started to glow green during Change. Green = reputation / her debut album according to how she lights her bracelets on the tour. Could a Change be coming? A change to the album Line Up? A Change to her announcement because of the date change of VMA's? A Change of albums to Taylors Version? "It was the night things changed"
Then she sang The Archer x You're on Your Own Kid. 2 track 5's or 55. Change.
You're On Your Own Kid talks about her life of era's, starting out in the music industry (Self-Titled Era). The Archer talks about contemplating her identity (or herself, named TAYLOR SWIFT) The Archer is also the symbol of Sagittarius. Taylors birth sign.
There are 12 Zodiac Signs. Sagittarius is the 9th. (Septembers month is 9) And Taylor wore a dress to her birthday last year that Looked Like Stars and moons like the Zodiac. She also debuted a new Midnights Body suit was stars and a crescent moon night 6 in London.( Her nails were painted light purple with stars in her Midnights stars body suit. She had 3 stars on thumb, 2 on index and looks like 1 on the others. Midnights was 3AM, TTPD was 2AM, TS12 1AM. Stars on here nails is Just like her nails were painted with stars in the Paris video on spotify.) It resembles the stars and moons outfit she wore to the afterparty of the VMA's. And she has the Sagittarius Constellation in the Karma Music Video (along with others like Lavender Haze on the vinyl album, Anti-Hero a bow and arrow, bejeweled archer statue on the castle)
She had a Sagittarius purse not to long ago too & her birthday outfit.(but this is probably because it's just her sign)
2 days after the VMA's now is the 13th.
Also in the Karma Music video Taylor Swift and Reputation are the first 2 albums (other than midnights which is karmas album) shown in the video.
In Fortnight she mentions Mondays and February. Monday is the 2nd day of the week and February is the 2nd month of the year and a Fortnight is 2 weeks
Taylor releases an album every 2 years. The cycle was broken when she was supposed to release an album in 2016, but then it became 3 years and that was 2017's reputation
Bonus info related to TTPD:
When announcing the variants of the tortured poets department she did it on night 1's. Sydney Night 1, Melbourne Night 1. But, for the black dog variant Taylor Sang on her instagram live in Singapore Night 1, I don't wanna live forever x dress. And didn't announce anything. Then Night 2, March 2, She announced The Black Dog.
That Night 1 in Singapore she Used a Black Heart when on the Live Starting the meeting. But, every other time she used White. The only thing I can think is that because the next album, Black Dog, was ink black and the anthology color. BUT, she sang Reputation Songs, with that Black Heart. hmmm...
Also, in the TTPD CD case there is Stevie Nicks poem with the date September 13th. 8:50pm 8+5=13.
I wonder if it's a Clara Bow release music video? and a reference to Taylor Swift (taylors version) since she sings "You look like Taylor Swift" And the 2's are just something as an advanced hint that she said she does years in advance, that we won't know about yet.
Florida!!! was also added to the set last night in London. The colors in the lights for the set were orange, green and white the same colors as Miami's flag. She was hinting to going to Florida!!! next. In the trailer for Fortnight's music video she uses the Florida!!! beat and there is a similar synth/beat of Florida!!! in the Black Dog, when she says old habits die SCREAMING.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
Edit: The 2nd color combo she wore during the European leg for 1989 and was purple top and orange skirt
and the 12th combo she wore was orange and orange
posted Sept 10 2024
please credit me if you use or share this theory. thank you.
sorry, i'll try and come back and add photos, but it was too hard right now.

Sorry to reign on your parade here - but august is a fan favourite song in the swiftie community. Every year I see swifties posting about august as soon as August 1st rolls around. Taylor Nation, you know, being a promoter for Taylor’s music & merch have obviously caught onto this trend that the swifties started. It’s literally nothing to do with Karlie. Furthermore, Back to December does not have the cult following that august has. No swifties do the trend with that song. So that’s why there’s no promotion from TN for back to December.
It’s totally logical that August is more popular than BTD. It’s more recent and the Folklore album captured a much wider audience than Speak Now did. And yes TN capitalizes where it can.
But if you’re looking closely and watching TN post stuff like “happy early birthday” a day or two before Karlie’s, etc. you can see what’s going on.
If you don’t believe in Kaylor, this isn’t going to be the one thing that really pulls you in. If you believe and have paid close attention for years, it is an obvious tip of the hat.
I’m not here to convince anyone. If you think Kaylor is a hoax, this isn’t the blog for you.

🍂 “I notice everything you do or don't do // You're so much older and wiser, and I // I wait by the door like I'm just a kid // Use my best colors for your portrait // Lay the table with the fancy shit // And watch you tolerate it // If it's all in my head, tell me now // Tell me I've got it wrong somehow // I know my love should be celebrated // But you tolerate it” - tolerate it
🍂 “He reports his missing wife // And I noticed when I passed his house his truck has got some brand new tires // And his mistress moved in // Sleeps in Este's bed and everything // No, there ain't no doubt // Somebody's gotta catch him out” - no body, no crime
🍂 “Showed you all of my hiding spots // I was dancing when the music stopped// And in the disbelief // I can't face reinvention // I haven't met the new me yet “ - happiness
🍂 “Break my soul in two looking for you // But you're right here // If I can't relate to you anymore // Then who am I related to?” - coney island
🍂”You're a cowboy like me // Perched in the dark // Telling all the rich folks anything they wanna hear // Like it could be love // I could be the way forward // Only if they pay for it” - cowboy like me
🍂 “When I dropped my sword // I threw it in the bushes and knocked on your door // And we live in peace // But if someone comes at us // This time, I'm ready” - long story short
🍂 “Long story short, it was a bad time // Long story short, I survived” - long story short
🍂 “‘Cause every scrap of you would be taken from me // Watched as you signed your name Marjorie // All your closets of backlogged dreams // And how you left them all to me” - marjorie
🍂 “You're alive, so alive // And if I didn't know better // I'd think you were singing to me now // If I didn't know better // I'd think you were still around” - marjorie
🍂 “It cut deep to know ya // Right to the bone // Yes, I got your letter  // Yes, I'm doing better  // I know that it's over  // I don't need your closure” - closure
🍂 “And when I was shipwrecked (can't think of all the cost) // I thought of you (all the things that will be lost now) // In the cracks of light (can we just get a pause?) // I dreamed of you (to be certain we'll be tall again)” - evermore
🍂 “Sometimes giving up is the strong thing // Sometimes to run is the brave thing // Sometimes walking out is the one thing // That will find you the right thing” - it’s time to go
🍂 “Now he sits on his throne in his palace of bones // Praying to his greed // He's got my past frozen behind glass // But I've got me” - it’s time to go

Merry Swiftmas! I saw your note at the end of the most recent chapter. What are you Tortured Poet Department thoughts and feelings?
Literally just got back from a listening party so this is all coming in VERY fresh and unprocessed but first reactions:
The unfortunate exigencies of Industry Shit have kind of hurt Swift creatively because (1) she's been taught she can have her cake and eat it too with the Grammy-winning 15-track sonically cohesive tone album if she just drops it separately as the first act of a 30-song behemoth deluxe edition/multiverse of bonus tracks, and (2) the Vault Tracks have taught her that fans actually do want to hear every single thing she writes, even if she (rightly) might have thought it wasn't release-quality 5-10 years ago. Long story short there is a good album in here but it needs to be TIGHTLY pruned out because a lot of these songs are either underwritten or underdeveloped or both. She should've focused her energy on improving a smaller set (i.e. cleaning out some of the clunker lines, tightening melodies, giving each song its own identity) and cutting like, more or less the last third of the tracks. That being said! I did like a lot of it.
I also think some people fail to understand Swift is a pop artist making pop music. When we say she's a good lyricist, we don't mean she's fucking Samuel Coleridge, it means she uses the medium of a pop song successfully to communicate a mood or an emotional experience. Pop is vernacular; it's supposed to evoke the kind of language you hear every day. Not surprisingly, I find her at her best when she's not trying to affect some kind of heightened poetic mood. Songs like "Would've, Could've, Should've" straddle this line pretty well for me, because it's not affected, it's just... intelligently thought-through. It's a single metaphor, taken from multiple angles, explained well, and set to a great melody. It's not trying to impress you, but it still does. Anyway.
Miscellaneous/specific thoughts:
"Guilty as Sin?" is my favorite, it's going to be one of my most played songs of the year, both for reasons of Oh Shit It Me and because I'm just straight up in love with the sound of this motherfucker. No analysis it makes the happy juices in the brain go
Other favorites: So Long London, Fresh Out The Slammer, The Bolter, Daddy I Love Him
"thank you aimee" is a reprise of "Mean" addressed semi-obviously to Kim K/the Collective Nation of Haters of Taylor Swift, which was a weak diss track when it was a teenager singing it and has not improved in the mouth of a 30-something artist
"But Daddy I Love Him" is conversely a very successful ironic reprise of "Love Story," and I'm fond of it because it reads like a love letter to the girls who grew up on that song
Interesting strains of Reputation on "Little Old Me," I feel like there was an earlier draft of this song that went harder on the Bad Blood/Don't Blame Me vibe, but she's still scarred from the critical reaction to reputation and hasn't fully gone there since. Which is why someday I will throttle the Pitchfork editor with my bare hands
Florida!!! feels like it needed some more production besides Jack Antonoff sitting on the synths with a jackhammer but I do like it. The bridge/second half sounds a lot like a Bleachers song (compliment)
"So High School" was sweet and I was surprised by how much I liked that and "The Alchemy," both of which are fun but ultimately simple and sentimental — which is GOOD to be clear I don't go looking for Proust in my pop music, and simplicity can be a virtue
However, I scream-laughed in a full room when I heard the line "you can ball and I know Aristotle," and I look forward to thinking about it once a day for the next forever. Insane. So good. Also, like — Taylor, have you read the Politics? You are legally obligated to tell us now if you have read the Politics.

nine favorite albums in no particular order,
tagged by @an-ivy-covered-summer (thank you I love to ramble about music)
Portishead - Dummy - This is probably my favorite album of all time? It's perfect to me. It makes me feel so good, physically and mentally. It's the quintessential 90s album, the definitive trip-hop album, and always makes the list of "25 Albums You Should Own On Vinyl" for a reason. It's immaculate and it spawned a slew of imitators who never ever got close to this kind of quality. I think people also don't appreciate hop much trip-hop/downtempo has influenced today's pop music. SZA's latest album especially felt super trip-hoppy, so did elements of Midnights.
Massive Attack - Mezzanine - if there's one other trip-hop album you should pick up, it's this one. This album benefits greatly from Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins' ethereal vocals. Every song on this is amazing. When I was playing this album for a friend about a decade younger, he said "oh this is the album with the music from all the movies." lol. Indeed It's been licensed to hell for a reason!
Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk - Okay I set a rule for myself that each artist would only get one album in this list to avoid putting up nine Tori Amos albums, but Scarlet is my favorite. This road trip across America immediately after 9/11 is one of the first albums to... if not criticize the US response to 9/11, because it was really too early for that, but to be very, very wary of what the response would be. It's an album that expresses sympathy for a wounded nation, while also acknowledging the nation's sins. I think this is one of a few Tori albums that was too high concept for the mainstream audience, but Tori has never been for the mainstream audience, anyway.
Taylor Swift - evermore - Of all the Taylor Swift albums, it was reputation that brought me to the dance and Red that made me fall madly in love. But evermore is her best work. It's perfecting upon the formula she came up with in folklore. Which, don't get me wrong, I love folklore, but with Taylor's obsession with being "sonically cohesive" it's kind of a bummer of an album? I appreciate how the vibes of evermore are more varied. Also, "ivy" is the most beautiful song she's ever written.
Green Day - American Idiot - This album doesn't need much description, it's so well-known, but nothing really compares to how hard this album hit during the height of Bush Era Hell. As a 26 year old when this came out, it felt like my generation was getting our mainstream protest music, finally.
Paul Simon - Graceland - This album won the Grammy for Album of the Year for a reason: it's soooo good. I know there's a lot of drama/controversy surrounding it, but I always felt Paul approached his love of African music from a genuine place. It's such a good midlife crisis album, I understand it now more that I am in midlife than I did when I discovered it at age 12. And the bass line for "You Can Call Me Al" is fucking legendary, isn't it? PS - Paul Simon is the greatest songwriter of all time.
VNV Nation - Automatic - Why was it so hard to pick a VNV Nation album? I really kind of wanted to put last year's Electric Sun in the mix, but I need to let that sit with me before I add it to a list like this. This is the album that brought me to the dance: "Gratitude" is an all-time fave VNV song of hopefulness. "Control" is the dance club banger to end all dance club bangers. I loooooooove this band. I wish there were more futurepop bands out there, tbh, it's SUCH an excellent genre.
Lana del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell! - This is Lana's best. It's not really even close. This is one of the best albums of the 21st century. The way "The greatest" so perfectly encapsulates the Trump-era nihilism... I DO want shit to feel the way just like it used to. Kanye West IS blond and gone. We DIDN'T know that we had it all. :( The ache of nostalgia in our current very painful times hits perfectly on this record (WHYYYY don't I own it on vinyl yet??)
Puscifer - Existential Reckoning - So hard for me to pick a Maynard project and not pick TOOL, but Puscifer has become my favorite of his three bands. Existential Reckoning is similar to NFR! in that it captures the political moment. Maynard has never seemed particularly political in his music until this record, which is pretty interesting. ER seems to be advocating for a return to rationality over ideology, of moderation over extremism, of science over faith. It takes a very humanist approach to looking at life in 2020. "Apocalyptica" is probably the craziest song because it sounds like it was written about COVID, but it was not, in fact was written just a few months earlier. "Bedlamite" is the coda to the album that promises hope: It's gonna be all right. When they did this album Live at Arcosanti and sang this song while the sun rose behind them, four days before the 2020 election and Maynard crooned that it would be all right, I looked at my roommate, and I said, "it really is, isn't it?" And we both got kind of overwhelmed. And then a few days later, it was. Trump lost.
I went into way detail >_> told you I like rambling about music

https://www.tumblr.com/yuzuyoon/758178958334427136/did-you-saw-the-rumor-going-around-about-jks-new?source=share
Idk about the latto collab but i also saw that rumour, some pop sider acct popped on my tl for the first time cause someone rted it, i even saw an acct claims to be army (looks more like jk solo) under it (that's a small acct still but is always ready up on pjms' ass, so how wondered how they ended up under tea acct lol). The tweet said new jungkook music is coming and from comments i got to know that there's one single from him and one western collab from him is coming. So yeah.
Anyways, hope it's not now and will be later cause isn't there some jin music coming and he said he's waiting cause there's jimin's album n all? His album was predicted to be released in nov-dec something.
It's not like we can't compete with jjks Cause I'm pretty sure jm's solo fb is bigger but jk does have token stanner and more than ANYTHING like the only problem here is the comapny cause they're capable of giving jungkook too much and doing shit Sherlock for jm. So the only one who can make difference in jm's and jk's records is that ass company. So yes do stream everyone.
the thing that bothers me so much about these bts solo eras is just the sheer amount that we're getting. if bts were artists that didn't share the same fanbase like they do it wouldn't be so tiring to get release after release over the course of just two and a half years. a part of me is happy for all the releases because i was so worried about losing interest in the group over the hiatus and this is keeping me interested, but also its just annoying to get new content every day. give us time to digest before putting out more
i really dont get why people trust these insider accounts. they act like they're taylor nation for taylor swift where the team actually works for her even though they're a fanbase account. sometimes insiders get legit info, but its always a bit sketch how. they're leaking info at the root and its a bit scary, tbh
anyways i really want jimin to pull a blackpink and end his solo contract so he can remain as a bts member but have control over his own career. i have a post cooking in my head about company reliance vs self sufficiency as kpop artists and i feel like jimin would thrive like crazy if he could actually be in control of everything

New Romantics lyrics
We're all bored, we're all so tired of everything
We wait for trains that just aren't coming
We show off our different scarlet letters
Trust me, mine is better
We're so young, but we're on the road to ruin
We play dumb, but we know exactly what we're doing
We cry tears of mascara in the bathroom
Honey, life is just a classroom
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah
'Cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come along with me
Heart break is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free
We're all here, the lights and noise are blinding
We hang back, it's all in the timing
It's poker, he can't see it in my face
But I'm about to play my ace
We need love, but all we want is danger
We team up and switch sides like a record changer
The rumors are terrible and cruel
But, honey, most of them are true
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah
'Cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come along with me
Heart break is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free
So come on, come along with me
The best people in life are free
Please take my hand and
Please take me dancing and
Please leave me stranded, it's so romantic (It's so romantic)
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah
Oh, 'cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
Every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
'Cause, baby, I could build a castle (Castle)
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come along with me
Heart break is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free

Wonderland lyrics
Flashing lights and we
Took a wrong turn, and we
Fell down a rabbit hole
You held on tight to me
'Cause nothing's as it seems
And spinning out of control
Didn't they tell us "Don't rush into things"?
Didn't you flash your green eyes at me?
Haven't you heard what becomes of curious minds?
Ooh, didn't it all seem new and exciting?
I felt your arms twisting around me
I should've slept with one eye open at night
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And we pretended it could last forever, eh-eh
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And life was never worse but never better, eh-eh
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
So we went on our way
Too in love to think straight
All alone, or so it seemed
But there were strangers watching
And whispers turned to talking
And talking turned to screams, oh
Didn't they tell us "Don't rush into things"?
Didn't you flash your green eyes at me?
Didn't you calm my fears with a Cheshire Cat smile?
Ooh, didn't it all seem new and exciting?
I felt your arms twisting around me
It's all fun and games till somebody loses their mind
Oh, darling
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And we pretended it could last forever, eh-eh
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And life was never worse but never better, eh-eh
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
Eh-eh, eh-eh, eh, in Wonderland
I reached for you, but you were gone
I knew I had to go back home
You searched the world for something else
To make you feel like what we had
And in the end, in Wonderland we both went mad, oh
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it
And we pretended it could last forever, eh-eh (Could last forever)
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it (Got lost in it)
And life was never worse but never better, eh-eh (Never better)
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it (In Wonderland)
And we pretended it could last forever (In Wonderland)
We found Wonderland
You and I got lost in it (In Wonderland)
And life was never worse but never better (In Wonderland)

Of course Taylor will always be famous, but it won't stay like this forever. And I'm sure she'll make music for many, many more years to come, but she won't be putting out 1-2 albums a year. And, if her and Travis do stay together, he won't be on the national stage every week like he is now forever either. It will never be 100% quiet for her, but this level of pandemonium won't last forever either. And that's a good thing. Hopefully, she can continue growing professionally and personally with a little less pressure and spotlight on her at some point in the not so far future.
She hasn't been putting out 1-2 albums a year though. She did that once for folklore/evermore during a pandemic. I don't count the re releases as actual new albums. and she only really promoted 1 of those with traditional promo and that was Red TV. Travis WANTS to be on the national stage. He wants to act, host, podcast, etc. As long as SM is alive and well and stans exist she will be in the spotlight. She is the last real pop icon. Her star will follower her until she dies just like Paul Mccartney. When you say forever what do you mean? They are only 34. Travis has 20-30 more years of traditional tv/ podcast media in him. Taylor has 30-40 plus years left of traditional music media left. Look at Cher, Madonna, and Dolly. She will just be very selective in her touring which is totally normal as you age.

maybe it’s bc of the timing of release (literally as pn nation was rising) but eternal sunshine is an og ✈️🍌 album and i wish i hated you is on top. it’s actually interesting that quite a lot of ppl agree bc i’ve noticed a number of pn fics and artwork reference this song in particular.
“our shadows dance in a parallel plane just two different endings” it truly is the right person wrong time and you just can’t hate the person even if things didn’t work out
anon, i kept this sitting pretty in my inbox for however long because.... i hadn't listened to eternal sunshine yet 😭 life is awfully hectic and i am very behind on this year's album releases, as i prefer listening to the whole thing on one sitting, and this afternoon i found some time to do just that for eternal sunshine!
even though i'm still not feeling pn (feelings are so complicated!), i can absolutely see how the songs in particular the sad ones work for them. "i wish i hated you" is such a good song, i adore how raw the lyrics are about daydreaming hatred came easily so you could get over someone faster, (i wish you were worse to me). it's a terrible thing to wish for, but when things don't work out between you and the person who still haunts your every move, isn't that what you want?
it also reminded me of a lyric from taylor swift's maroon: "and i wake with your memory over me, that's a real fucking legacy to leave".

Open Letter to Taylor Swift
I have never used Tumblr a day in my life, and wanted to come on here to write a letter to Taylor Swift! I sent a letter back in February to Taylor Nation in hopes of it getting to Taylor but I know this is such a long shot of her reading some random fans letter I tried not to get my hopes up, I've always wanted to send Taylor a letter telling her what her music means to me, and as I'm getting married in September, I thought, "Why not send her an invitation and use this as an excuse to tell her some things I've wanted to say!". I know she's insanely busy, and I don't expect to hear back or receive any recognition, but I know mail can get lost sometimes and maybe coming onto the internet would have a higher chance of her seeing it? Here's to hoping!
Anyways, the letter is posted below, anyone is welcome to read it, and I have revised it since I wrote it last as her latest album came out and I had more to say.
Dear @taylorswift,
My name is Laura, and you might be wondering why I was hoping to have you at our wedding! I first want to preface this and say I’m a huge fan of yours (from album 1), you probably get this a lot, but I remember so vividly, my mother purchasing me your debut album at 11 years old and having ‘Should’ve Said No’, ‘Picture to Burn’, and ‘Our Song’ playing over and over and over, like I had any idea at that age of what those emotions and feelings for a guy were. But I sang my heart out every time I listened to the album until it wore out and my mom had to go and purchase me a new one.
As you grow in life and with your music, I have grown with you and admired every single album and record you have put out. From Debut to The Tortured Poets Department, I couldn't imagine not enjoying them all. My most admired of yours is Folklore, you put it out to the world during a time we all needed it and this whole album you’re a lyrical genius (you always are though). Your lyricism in this album is on another level and I can have it on repeat for days on end and not get tired of it. But, I will say, I do think your new album, The Tortured Poets Department, may overtake Folklore as my new favourite. It's so hard to choose! The songs ‘My Tears Ricochet’ and 'Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me' are my favourites at this moment. It's always hard to choose a favourite and they can switch depending on the mood! Anytime I listen to an album of yours and think I know it inside and out, there is always something new I learn from you.
Needless to say, my love for you and your music has never wavered once. You have been my favourite artist for as long as I can remember, and I feel as though over the years, I have grown so much through the lyrics you write. All the genres you have gone through over the years show your growth and for many of us fans that are here through it all, it is as if you have never once let us down by changing and trying new things. Even now at 28 years old, I get giddy whenever I listen to your music, no matter how many times I've heard them!
I feel so honoured, privileged, and proud to be able to tell anyone who asks, ‘Who’s your favourite artist?’ and to be able to say you, this always puts a smile on my face. Because even though I do not personally know you, the lyrics you write are good enough for me to know that you are an amazing person, and anyone would be proud to be able to call you their favourite.
You have proven repeatedly your resilience to things in this world and your strength and I am sure it is not that easy. I relate to you on this on so many levels and this is the reason I personally feel so connected with you. I have always wanted to write to you and tell you this, especially when my mother passed away in 2011, a long time ago, but you helped me through this a lot. I felt connected to you through her as she first showed me your music and I lost something then, but you helped me to gain parts back bit by bit through your music, and I cannot tell you how much it means to me to have your music as a safe space.
Going through this wedding planning, it’s been hard not having my mother around, don’t get me wrong I have a huge support system in my fiancé, and sister-in-law, but there is nothing like a mother’s touch in these situations. Your song “Marjorie” has been hitting me a lot harder these days and it’s so easy to relate to this song. Thank you for making it a part of your Era’s Tour. The grieving process has almost felt as though it has come back and I’m going through it again while keeping it at an arm's length not wanting it to get too close. With this said, your music has been a constant repeat to get me out of my head or to accept the emotions and run with them, welcome them and not be afraid of feeling this way.
All throughout the last 10 years of my relationship with my fiancé, I have slowly progressed to making him a “Swiftie” which I have finally accomplished by going to the theatres and watching ‘The Eras Tour’ movie twice and renting it 8 times now at home and watching it multiple times through Disney+. I was so happy to finally be able to watch this and it felt good having him seeing what I have been seeing this whole time.
I hope this letter and invitation gets to you and you are able to read this, I’m sure you get many things like this, but I’m so happy to have finally been able to write this to you and would absolutely be honoured to host you.
I know you don’t come to Canada, let alone BC very often, but would be privileged if you did! We are hoping to see you in Vancouver this December for your Era’s tour instead of going on a honeymoon, he knows how much this would mean to me (we did not win the great Ticketmaster war, as you can assume!). And so, from converting my fiancé, and sister-in-law, all into Swifties, we can’t wait to hopefully see you then! After being a fan for 17 years now, I can’t think of a better concert to go to see you for the 1st time ever.
My true best regards to you and I wish you nothing but the absolute best in this life, you deserve nothing less!
All my true love and admiration,
Laura
@taylornation
