It's in quiet moments like this, when Aaron has the time uninterrupted by Rob's snark or his kisses, that he realises that he can see evidence of the last six years all over his body. The two grooves that run across Rob’s forehead have always been there; his tendency to frown with his whole face made them a permanent feature long before they had even met. But now, he can see that the lines have been worn deeper over time. And more have joined them, twisting in fissures along the bones of Robert’s brow and cheeks.

A nerve at the base of Aaron’s throat pulses with sadness as he thinks of Robert, all alone, face creased with worry, with no one near him to make the lines disappear with a smile.

Of course, the biggest change to Robert’s face is the beard. As far as Aaron knows, it’s the first time Robert has ever worn one. It’s just as blonde as the hair on his head, on his arms, and trailing down across his belly and even lower… It’s not soft like the rest of Rob’s hair, though; Aaron had been surprised at the coarseness the first time his fingers had brushed through it as he moved to pull Robert closer with a hand at the back of his neck.

Aaron can’t decide if he likes it. In some ways, the slight ruggedness it adds to Robert’s jaw is attractive. But, in others, it just makes Aaron ache for all the time that they have lost. As he looks closer, he notices that the beard hides a silvery patch of skin near Robert’s mouth. It shifts a little as Aaron tilts his head to look at it better, the pale smoothness of the skin twinging an old memory. Rob has the same white skin on his chest, though there it is a mottled knot of flesh and here it is a neat stroke running parallel to his cheek.

“Stop staring…” Robert mumbles. His voice is thick with sleep, and he doesn’t even open his eyes, though the faint twitch at the corner of his mouth is all the permission that Aaron needs to keep on, going nearly cross-eyed searching for grey hairs to count. There’s only a few. Less than Aaron has. Robert probably plucks them.

Aaron inches closer, so that his own head rests almost fully on Robert’s pillow. Robert even leans back to make room for him, though his eyes remain closed. Aaron can’t help himself. He reaches out, touches the tip of his finger to the bridge of Robert’s nose, following down to the pale freckle that only appears in the summer sun. It’s a familiar gesture, and Robert sighs into it.

Aaron tries not to flinch when he feels the break under the skin. Fibres of bone knitted together in a ridge. It’s new.

“Hey…” Robert is looking at him now, Aaron’s vision filled with hazy blue-green.

“When…” the question sticks in his throat. “Who…”

“Doesn’t matter.”

Aaron wants to protest, but Robert closes the gap, stopping his questions with a kiss. Aaron can’t help but relax into it, pleasure sparking along his skin and his bones turning to jelly. Robert pushes him back to his side of the bed, gentle but forceful, and clearly on a mission to melt Aaron’s brain.

It’s so familiar - Rob’s taste, the warmth of him, the touch of high-thread-count sheets… and yet the weight of sorrow on his chest is as heavy as Robert’s body on his own.

Robert breaks away. “What’s brought all this on?”

Aaron should brush him off, but his mind is too fuzzy from the kiss and (to be honest) from the night before.

“I just…” he starts, biting back the instinct to lie. “I can’t help thinking about all of the time we have lost. It was six years, Robert. What if you’ve changed? What if I have?”

Aaron expects a protest. But what he gets is Robert pushing himself up on his forearms, the sheet falling from his shoulder to reveal a tan that goes all the way down from ear to chest. Aaron’s always been jealous of how Rob can soak in the sun while Aaron goes a shade of pink Rob used to call “lobster”.

“Things are different now,” Aaron eventually says. “I married John.”

Robert sits up, though he doesn’t let Aaron escape from under him, knees pressed either side of his hips. Aaron’s hands gravitate to where they had rested last night. The muscles there are harder, more defined, than they had ever been before Robert left. Before he was taken.

“Does this feel different to you?” Robert asks, gathering Aaron in his arms so that he can press a kiss to his temple.

“Does this?” A kiss to the forehead.

“Does this?” Robert presses their mouths together, tongue swiping against the seam of his lips, and Aaron is rising to meet him on an instinct that feels as old as his bones.

“Nothing has changed, Aaron. Not really.” Robert breaths against his lips, “Nothing important, anyway.”

“Nothing important,” Aaron scoffs. Being married to someone else feels like it should be. And yet, sitting in bed with a lap full of Robert Sugden is as natural as breathing, as normal as if he had done it every day for years. A habit. A ritual.

“You know me, Aaron. You’ve always known me.” Robert’s hands are in his hair, pressing at a bundle of nerves on the left-hand side that never fails to make him sigh with satisfaction. “Ok, so I have a few more wrinkles now. I can’t help that I had to use Nivea instead of the good stuff in prison, can I?”

Aaron thinks about the near empty jar of face cream at the back of his drawer. The bottle of spicy-citrusy cologne that he used to spray on the pillows until he realised that if he ran out it would cost him £200 to replace. The empty ring box…

Aaron reaches for him. He runs his thumb along the new scar, tracing it like a pathway on a map, branching between cities of freckles and scars. He follows it down, to Robert’s lips, knowing that it would always lead him here.

Snow White: Bianca White ( Bianca means "white" and Whites are probably one of the most obsessed families with their story, every single Snow White had a name with meaning relative to the fairy tails,)

Evil Queen: Eris Queen (I can't remember did I read a fic where she was called Eris but I think that the name of the goddess of discord really suits her)

Sleeping Beauty: Rosalin Beauty (pretty standard name)

Cinderella: Ophelia Ella ( a sweet name for a sweet girl)

Red Riding Hood: Scarlett Hood (one more standard name)

Big Bad Wolf: Aiden Wolf (close friends call him Andy :) )

Dark Fairy: Darcy Thorn ( oh the irony of being the dark fairy with dark name and yet cover yourself in light)

Candy Witch: Cinnamon Witch (I also didn't come up with this name myself. I saw someone use it for her a really long time ago but I can't remember who. If the person who came up with this name sees this, you deserve a reward, the name is perfect. But I hc that she goes by her nickname: Candy. Why? Because it's such a cute nickname)

Pinocchio: Oak Wood (I think that every family name has something to do with trees or wood. Oak sounds like a perfect name for someone sweet, young and cheerful and later as an adult calm and wise)

Goldilocks: Dolly Locks ( I just think that its a cute name and she kinda remind me of Dolly)

Huntsman: Archer Huntsman (Okay, so, Huntsmans are bad at naming their kids, like REALLY BAD. Hunter we are counting on you to break that cycle)

King Charming: Dashing Charming (I read one fanfic were he is named Dashing and i think that name suits him, i myself couldn't come up with the more fitting name)

Queen Charming: Grace Charming (I also read that one in a fanfic and i think it fits her, somehow whenever i think of Charmings Dashing and Grace are the first name that come to my mind)

Rapunzel: Cressida O'Hair (I first just like the name but then i found out the Cressida means "golden" so it goes well with Rapunzel story)

Pied Piper: Devin Piper ( It means "bard" or "poet", the perfect name for a musician. Also, Piper is really a cool name, too bad it is already his last name)

Mad Hatter: Maddox Hatter (I just like silly names for Wonderlandians, especially Mad Hatter)

Queen of Hearts: Victoria Hearts ( okeey, it's not a very Wonderlandian name but neither is Elizabeth and Vicy is a cute nikename)

Cheshire Cat: Lorelai Cheshire (I didn't want to go for the obvious one Chatrine, like, I get it, she's a cat, She literally named her daughter Kitty, or maybe Katrine Kitty for short, BUT THEN I REMEMBER THAT TOLERAI EXISTED which is literally the same name just different first latter and I already gotten attached to Lorelai, so, umm if you all could just do me the favour and pretend that these are TOTALLY different names I would be very thankful)

Alice Wonderland: Amilia Wonderland ( Also would her last name be Wonderland or Liddell? Bonus cute nickname Amy)

White Rabbit: Castor Blanc ( At first i just liked the name but don't you think that "dutiful" is a perfect for White Rabbit)

White Swan: Elenor Swan ( It means "shining light" and to be honest with that destiny she's going to need some light in her life)

Black Swan: Callisto VonBart (What would be the last name of The Black Swan? VonBart?BlackSwan? I put VonBart because I found an OC of Odille on Pinterest and her last name was VonBart. I don't know)

Frog Prince: Hanry Croakington ( i reafuse to belive that he named his son after himself. Nuh-uh. He named Hopper after his father or maybe his grandfather)

Robin Hood: Wren Hood ( Listen, Listen, maybe they just have a thing with the birds?)

Maid Marian: Pandora Charming ( I don't think that there is a destiny stricly for Maid Marian. I think thats just a princess from Charming family or from nobel family, that's why i gave her last name Chaming. Last name changed after the wedding)

Beast: Damian Beast (like it)

Fairy Godmother: Beatrice Goodfairy ("blessed one" mmm... too bad you can't bless yourself)
