WIP - West 70th
1880s-1910s row of Upper West Side townhomes.
Been working on this row of late 19th c. brownstones on and off for the past year now, so needless to say when I heard about For Rent I was hype.
Download Here
This initially started because I was homesick for NYC during the pandemic. Specifically for the area of the upper west side my dorm was in while I was a student. I mainly blame this experience for my obsession with historical architecture - walking along central park west past the Dakota on the way to the subway, smoking on the stoops of the brownstones late at night, going to classes in the wedding cake that is the Ansonia - it was just everywhere, and so, so beautiful to look at.
Except a lot of it is faded glory - buildings subdivided, details chipped or covered in the thickest coats of grime or paint. So I wanted to replicate some of the old New York from around the turn of the century. The one I read about in the Luxe series and saw in the Samantha movie lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The basement or garden level of each four-story brownstone will be dedicated to the original purpose as the main workplace of the service staff. Unfortunately no room for the actual garden, so laundry lines and planters are on the roof. There are bedrooms and bathrooms for a cook and a housekeeper/butler, along with the staff dining and the kitchen. The butler's pantry is directly upstairs from the kitchen, and the top floor is almost exclusively made up of staff bedrooms and washrooms.

I usually do the service areas first because they're the most interesting, and there was nothing more interesting than a full edwardian brownstone kitchen. Lots of exposed piping, beadboard, subway tile, and shelves of clutter. Has a separate scullery, pantry, and stairs down to a basement storeroom to keep your best champs-le-sims nectar in. There's also a servant's bellboard in the kitchen and the staff dining room. It along with the "boiler" system are made with tool and CC-free.

The main entrance and parlor are doing their best to continue the gothic revival theme of the exterior. The library and dining room follow in the enfilade starting in the parlor. Since this first house is a corner lot, it has a bit more width and space than a true brownstone. The only actual brownstone I've been inside of is Lady Mendl's, so ofc I had to have an extensive tea setup. Def took a lot of inspo from these two pics alone for these rooms.

The main stairwell and picture gallery lead to three large bedrooms on the second floor, and then up to the children's room and nanny's bedroom on the third floor. I really like skylights. I learned the importance of decent lightwells in staving off depression one semester when my window looked out onto a brick wall
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The master bedroom and the children's room above it both have their own private sitting rooms and bathrooms. All rooms have either fireplaces or cast iron radiators.

There's no way this is going to be finished by the time For Rent comes out, so im just going to release it in whatever state it's in when it does come out. The exteriors and interior room layout for all the townhomes will (hopefully) most likely be set by then anyway.
Now available for download!
Also the anniversary of Chez Cromwell is coming up! Ive been gone for the better part of the year due to starting a new job, but I havent been idle. C.Cromwell has been updated for infants and ceilings, which led to me redoing the exterior and almost every room, so a rerelease is coming v soon! Sneak peek below. Happy Thanksgiving!

Reminder that Claude neglected Diana when she was pregnant because she chose the child over him and then let her die miserably, alone and in pain. We aren't talking enough about how bad Claude's treatment of his lover was when she went against his will and told him she wanted to keep the baby.
He ignored her for months unless he wanted to grab her to yell at her, pressure her into changing her mind, accuse her of playing with his heart, and when she was about to pass away, he couldn't even bother to move his ass from his throne and bid her goodbye.
Tumblr media
He was the best magician in the kingdom up to date and didn't even try to help Diana through her complicated pregnancy. Even if it was known the delivery would have killed her for certain, he could have at least attempted things to alleviate her pain or made the process of the birth easier. Seeing how useless the court magicians were during Athy's mana-sickness and couldn't even numb her pain or put her to sleep, Diana must have been giving birth to her baby in agony in horrible conditions. Were even specialists present? I saw no bodies of magicians, doctors or even nurses lying among the corpses of the murdered concubines and servants of the Ruby Palace, yet I find it highly unlikely that Claude would have spared their lives. After all they had failed at their job in his eyes. If Claude had summoned once in a lifetime geniuses from all corners of the world to his palace and then killed them after Diana's death, then this must have caused a public outrage which should have affected Obelia's international relations with their neighbouring countries negatively.
I wouldn't have taken Claude as the kind of person who would deny his lover medical attention out of personal slight, I would have assumed he would have searched the entire continent for a specialist who could deliver the baby safely, yet Claude not even sending her a single magician, because he viewed Diana as a lost cause and felt offended by her choice, could fall in line with his character. Secretly he may have wanted her to suffer as punishment for her "betrayal" of him. The thought that he could make her departure from this world more comfortable may not even have crossed his mind because she was already "dead" to him.

Games I've Enjoyed So Far This Year!!
Hello Charlotte
in this game you are controlling a puppet -- charlotte -- and you are trying to find her missing friend. this is a horror game filled with puzzles, and i lost so many times but had a ton of fun! if you enjoy rpg maker horror games i recommend checking this one out!
Palace of Woe
this is a puzzle game that deals with self-thought, transitioning, and gender identity. one of my favorite parts of this game is the battle mechanics, where you solve puzzles in order to deal damage. if you like games with different battle mechanics i recommend this game!
Halope
this game is amazing, and probably my favorite on this list! you play as an incomplete angel, and you travel through various worlds and meet the unique characters that inhabit them. there is sensitive topics in the game, as many people that you meet are struggling the further you get into the game. this game is very colorful, and the story is amazing! i would recommend this to anyone who enjoys playing games!

Paper Lily
in this game you play a cursed girl -- lacie -- and you try to find out a way to break it. there is many endings in this game, and even the bad endings have characters you cant meet any other way! im a huge fan of the boss battle in this chapter, as well as of how much there is to explore area wise. if you are a fan of horror and puzzle games i recommend this to you!
Bad Faith
i havent finished this one yet but its so good i have to include it! in this game you play a girl -- magda -- who lives on an island with a private community. this community -- the haven -- has no contact with the outside world and if any member becomes interested in the world outside the haven they are removed from the haven in order to protect the community from corruption. magda discovers a secret the community is trying to hide and has to avoid being caught. the backgrounds and characters in this game are all beautiful! this game is one that i recommend to those who love visual novels, horror, and anything with cults!
this is all for now! but ill be updating this frequently with more games that ive played and enjoyed! some of them will be full games and others will be demos that im looking forward to having the full version of!
if you have recommendations of games for me please share them! i would love to give them a try!

This was nothing like Buckingham palace, where Deryn had watched the changing of the royal lioness guard her first day in London. That was four stories tall and as square as a cake. But here the buildings were low and surrounded by colonnades, their arches decorated with checkerboards of black and white marble, as shiny as piano keys.
Hello everyone it's time for an Impromptu Architectural History Lesson from Lily, your resident Former Architectural History Student
This is NOT what the sultan's palace looked like in 1914. The Sultan (at the time) would have lived in Dolmabahçe Palace, which was built in 1843-56 and does, in fact, look relatively European.
For context, here's Buckingham Palace (built in 1703):
Tumblr media
And here's Dolmabahçe Palace:
Tumblr media
See? Where are the colonades? There's no reason Deryn wouldn't recognize this architecture, it's definitely pulling from more European styles. You have a similar material language, similar shapes, etc. "Square as a cake" indeed.
So this description is almost definitely of the much older Topkapı Palace in Istanbul, which was built in 1459.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(That last picture is just a model but you get the gist)
I mean. Just look at it. That's much closer to the actual description, down to the courtyard that they had to finagle the Stamboul into.
(Also the checkerboard arches are a classic Islamic Architectural feature as a reference back to the Mosque of Cordoba in Spain, which began construction in 785. That's not important to this part of the book, it's just a fun fact.)
