torn apart and leaking butter, fried meats

late in the morning, and always sweets

in a sticky parade from the kitchen.

His vigilance, an ice pick of   hunger

pricking his insides, will melt

in the unctuous cream fillings.

He will forget. He will thank you

for it. His little finger stuck every day

through cracks in the bars

will grow sleek and round,

his hollow face swell

like the moon. He will stop dreaming

about fear in the woods without food.

He will lean toward the maw

of   the oven as it opens

every afternoon, sighing

better and better smells.

A little bit of an update on the new Dracula movie with Christoph Waltz. His character will be that of a Priest, directed by Luc Besson. No release date as of yet.

While fans have not seen the romantic side of Dracula in the movies, per legends, it was Elisabeta’s suicide that led the character’s real-life inspiration, the Romanian ruler Prince Vlad III to forsake God and embrace life as a vampire. Also starring alongside Jones as Dracula is Zoë Bleu Sidel, who plays Elisabeta and her 19th century alter ego Mina along with Christoph Waltz as a Priest, Matilda De Angelis as Maria, as Elisabeta/Mina and Haymon Maria Buttinger as Cardinal.

Aaliyah attends and performs some of her hit songs at the Budweiser Superfest Tour. The Tour production was by Haymon Entertainment. This was a 30-city event with Aaliyah participating in 24 of the shows (that I can find, so far).

Mary J Blige was the main headliner at this event, with Bone: Thugs n’ Harmony as to co-headliners. Opening acts at this tour were Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Dru Hill, WuTang, and Kid Capri.

Muss ich das gelesen haben? von Teresa Reichl

Erstmals 2023 erschienen beim Haymon Verlag

Wisst ihr noch, was für Autor*innen ihr so in der Schule gelesen habt? Bei mir waren das zum Beispiel Joseph von Eichendorff, Erich Maria Remarque, Günter Grass, Gotthold Lessing, Friedrich Schiller, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Bernhard Schlink, Bertolt Brecht, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Theodor Fontane, Gottfried Keller, Peter Härtling, Theodor Storm und Sybille Berg. Na, fällt euch was auf? Ziemlich homogene Masse, oder? Sah bei euch vermutlich ähnlich aus, vorrangig weiß, männlich, cis, hetero, christlich, wohlhabend und able-bodied. Wenn ich mich richtig erinnere, hat mich die hohe Männerquote schon zu Schulzeiten gestört und ich fand es immer frustrierend, dass wir nie etwas Aktuelles gelesen haben, das mehr mit meiner Lebensrealität zu tun hat. Wieso das so ist und weshalb das ausführlicher Kritik und Veränderung bedarf, erklärt Teresa Reichl in ihrem wunderbaren Sachbuch Muss ich das gelesen haben?

In kurzen Kapiteln erläutert sie erst einmal, was wir eigentlich unter Literatur verstehen, wieso die so wichtig (und geil) ist, weshalb wir in Deutschland so auf ernste, komplizierte Texte stehen (Spoiler: um uns schlau und überlegen zu fühlen) und warum es so schwierig ist, sich alten Texten ohne Kontextwissen zu nähern. Im Anschluss übt sie Kritik an der Einseitigkeit unseres Klassikerkanons (siehe oben: männlich, weiß etc.), gibt zu bedenken, was für (negative) Auswirkungen es hat, immer nur Literatur von und über einen einzigen Teil der Bevölkerungsgruppe zu lesen und bietet gleichzeitig jede Menge Alternativen bzw. Ergänzungen an, mit denen sich der Kanon diversifizieren ließe. “Da gibt’s halt nichts anderes” ist nämlich eine Ausrede, die nicht mehr gilt.

Durch mein eigenes Studium sind mir viele von Reichls Fakten und Kritiken nicht neu, aber ich habe trotzdem jede Seite ihres Buches mit Genuss und Interesse gelesen, denn sie ist Germanistin, was nie mein Fokus im Studium war, und unheimlich gut darin, Wissen kompakt und leicht bekömmlich zusammenzufassen und dabei mit Leichtigkeit die Zusammenhänge zum heutigen Stand der Dinge aufzuzeigen. Außerdem ist ihr Ton und Humor unschlagbar: frech, trocken und pointiert. Da kommen definitiv ihre Künste als Poetry-Slammerin durch. Mit diesem Stil werden sich nicht alle Lesenden anfreunden können, aber gerade viele der jüngeren Generation, an die sich das Buch vorrangig richtet, werden sicher ihren Spaß damit haben. Für eine Kostprobe empfehle ich Teresas YouTube-Kanal.

Ein fabelhaftes, unterhaltsames Sachbuch, das nicht nur Zusammenhänge leicht verständlich darlegt, sondern auch Lust aufs Klassiker Lesen macht. Und jetzt entschuldigt mich, ich muss die zahlreichen Empfehlungen aus Teresas Buch recherchieren und lesen.
