ohohoho That would be one of my very few original-universe (but still heavily monster hunter inspired LMAO) ocs, the ruling high god of fire, toorthur!

appearance-wise, toorthur primarily takes on the form of a teostra, though he does have a human form as well (the faceclaim for that being chief hekarro from horizon forbidden west)

in terms of personality, toorthur is probably mostly what you'd expect from a fire deity---blunt, abrasive and short-tempered, and he seems to not really enjoy being around other people that much, BUT! there's reason for all of that;

before his home universe was devoured by vodrem (a former high god, now gone rogue; the god of chaos, also known as the world destroyer or "the pretender" by the other gods that were not devoured by him), toorthur was a caring but admittedly distant deity (as were most, but not All of them, for fear that being too involved would disrupt the natural flow of things) that kept his emotions under careful, measured control, not allowing them to get the better of him. he, like the other high gods (including vodrem, once upon a time) were peacekeepers; meant to keep the balance of the universe in check, but allow the mortals to sort through their own affairs. distance was key to this, as was careful control of his emotions. in the end, though, that distance and detachment did more harm than good when vodrem went rogue, slaughtering most of the mortals on a whim without anything to stop him---those he did not immediately kill, he drove to the brink of insanity, relishing in watching their fragile mortal minds break. overcome with rage and sorrow, toorthur attempted unsuccessfully to avenge his people, nearly becoming yet another victim to vodrem in the process. he managed to escape, taking one of the pretender's spikes with him, and vowed that eventually, he would exact his revenge upon him. much like the other surviving gods, he now follows vodrem throughout the multiverse, attempting to minimize what destruction and chaos the world destroyer inevitably sows in his wake---though even despite toorthur and the other's efforts, vodrem has devoured uncountable amounts of universes and other deities. each one of these further weighs on toorthur, who now allows his emotions to empower him, channeling his fury and anger into a destructive inferno of fire and destruction.

he's still pretty antisocial, though, if not even moreso than before. his advisor, who remains unnamed, was one of the many deities lost to vodrem, and he hasn't really Let himself get close to anybody ever since---he's afraid of losing them, too, and afraid that he would accidentally hurt them with his own emotional distance, or worse yet with his abilities. he's lonely, grumpy and angry, but would possibly literally rather die at the pretender's claws than admit to that.

Gods. The more I get into this once self-indulgent au the more likely it is to become canon D:

I have two versions of this, tbh - one where Shaddox just stumbles his ass out of Hell cuz Micah's singing voice is understandably pretty and he follows it, aaand another which has that wonderful old fanfic favourite trope of "can't find a partner? Summon one via complicated magical ritual" as its base idea.

In both, it's well after the events of Little Note - the Twins exist and are grown up, Micah is at least in his forties to fifties (but thanks to 1st generation Nephalem genetics and lifespans, still looks like a twink). Shaddox escapes Hell, still thoroughly corrupted, one way or another.

I was at a Halloween event so I'm back from it for Mario trailer opinions which no one asked for

It looks really good. The visuals are actually nice I'm loving the tone they're going for. Bowser looks and sounds great as does Kamek and the Koopas. There's so many lovely charecter shots like the animation is gorgeous and pleasing to look at.

I don't like Mario's voice. I don't think Chris Pratt has the actual charecter chops to deliver lines the way Blake and Key did in the trailer. I'm hoping that was just ONE really bad example of his voice but I know perfectly well we won't get anything better

I wish Luigi got some more screen time he is my favorite and I was REALLY looking forward to hearing Charlie Day's vocal decisions.

Aight I forget. Does Tristram have any kinda yuletide or whatever? Does Farah have a reason to wrestle Mal into a hideously festive and unfairly comfortable sweater.

Absolutely, Tristram has a mid-winter celebration. I haven't fleshed out the lore around it nearly as much as I did around the canon non-compliant damn it thanks Book of Adria Night of Souls, but it would share elements of real worldwide celebrations for the solstice. I would assume it takes place on or leading up to the winter solstice.

The more I think on it, and the Diablo realm's fixation on Light/Dark, it would probably be very candle and fire heavy, to help physically light the world when even the sun cannot.

(It would be fun if there were rune stones, like Stonehenge, where the sun's light on the solstice would illuminate the markings and create actual magic! For the summer as well.)

One thing this made me think of is Saint Lucy's Day. Lots of imagery around a martyr carrying the Light into the world. (I wonder just how much of this might carry over from Inarius' dealings in Sanctuary?)

I think there would be an avoidance of marriage/hand-fasting during this time, as there is a lot of imagery (at least in my fanon) around the Light for weddings and they would rather do that in the spring/summer/autumn.

Because Tristram's winters appear as though they would be cold, I assume eating/drinking/feasts would happen. Singing/carols seem to be a big part of a lot of solstice celebrations to help ward off evil, so yes, there would be that too.

I think gift-giving would also happen as a show of affection or love, though many of these gifts would likely be food or clothing.

I honestly can't think of a reason in Tristram that ugly sweaters would suddenly become a thing then and not the whole winter, but I could certainly see it in bigger cities like Westmarch where there would likely be more marketing around what the nobles are wearing.

However, I would like to personally believe that mortal!Auriel knits and crochets, and that from Archfall onward Mal is stuck wearing an absolutely gaudy shirt every single winter because she makes it for him as a present and he has zero excuses to not wear it.

Anyone/anyspecies in obscuraverse celebrate any kind of 'It's Cold Season So Let's Party' holidays?

*Soft gasp* A question? About my original stuff? ; w ; *Slams down the book of lore* Well get ready then! Got a few holidays that a few different species celebrate!

Winter holidays are found across a wide variety of species, at least those that have a proper "cold season" to celebrate in c:

The most well-known and longest winter holiday is the one celebrated by the Natsook called the "Feast of the Sleeping Sun" that lasts for two weeks. In the Natsook homeland, the sun will set and not rise for months, dropping the once sweltering hot lands into a bitter, sudden, and deadly cold. During this time, the Natsook return to their subterranean cities and celebrate with a two week feast where they eat and gain weight....then sleep through the rest of the cold season in a food hibernation. Huge party and leads to long sleepy time just to best hibernate through the deadly cold.

Another winter holiday is Little Snow Folk Day that is celebrated by the Cu'Somadi. They have a cold season, but it usually is just cold rain and foggy weather. However, when they do get snow, a rare thing in the land, they celebrate the occasion. The Festival of the Little Snow Folk is celebrated with street stall food and walking about the city to look at all the snowmen that have been made and brought to life. The Cu'Somadi will compete to build and bring to life the most impressive snow creations. Children will create small snowmen called "Snow babies" and bring them to life where they will run about until they melt away when the cold rains return. It is a festive celebration that happens every time the rare snow day comes.

The last holiday is a rather strange one that is practiced by the Crystalian people. For them, cold weather is all year round with just various degrees of cold but they thrive and adore the cold. However, in the "winter" the blizzards and snowstorms happen way more often leading to huge piles of snow drifts....and thus begins the Snowball season. During this season, various individuals will try to nail the high priest of Azorath in a given city with a snowball. If they succeed, it is a day off work as the entire city most then declare a massive snowball fight to last the whole day. Stalls of food are put out, huge stockpile of snowballs are made, all because someone hit the high priest. However hitting the high priest is not an easy feat as many of them are super paranoid around this season and are good at dodging snowballs and keeping the city from having anarchy everyday.
