Hi there!

I'm a newbie in the tolkien works, I've finished off the hobbit and the lotr books but have no idea where to go next. I've looked at different websites about it but I haven't gotten any clear answers. There's like a million of these books and I feel so lost!

I figured that as a long time fan that you'd know the answers to this question if it's not too much of a bother.

Writers/artists/creators alike, I want you to share your favorite interaction(s) that you’ve had thanks to the wonderful things you make! Oh wow, well…I’ve made friendships that have lasted since I first posted and read on a fanfic archive which was 2007. Incredible people, learned, intelligent, awesomely clever writers who intimidated the hell out of me (and still do!) but were always so welcoming and genuinely nice people to talk to. I have met some of them in the ‘real world’ and they’re just as brilliant as they are online. And they have given me uncounted hours of free reading, which struck me as amazing and almost unbelievable in 2007 and does to this day. Their works are so good that they could stand beside the best published authors out there. Some of them wrote works that I had wanted to read but hadn’t existed until the authors posted them. It’s impossible to explain that feeling of coming across something you wanted to read since first reading the Silmarillion and Lord of the Rings in the 80’s.

Relationship status: Oh-so-basic heteronormativity! Married for 43 years and produced 2 now-adult spawn.

Favorite color: Deep wine-red, like a cabernet sauvignon or sangiovese wine.

Song stuck in your head: Dancing Barefoot, Patti Smith Group.  Likely from watching the faux-stalgic and soapy series Daisy Jones and The Six. Not as good as Almost Famous, but kind of a guilty pleasure.  On the other hand, I do believe I would fancast Sam Claflin as Sámaril.  Claflin has the right facial structure (cheekbones, jawline. brows) and most importantly, nails that haunted look which comes from apprenticing with Istyar Aulendil. :^D

Favorite food: I have no single favorite since I eat a wide variety of foods, but I’d say fresh, well-seasoned, and prepared with care fit the favorite category.

Last song played: The Land Unknown (Hollow Heart Verses) by Landon Blood. This is the intro music for Season 2 episodes of the podcast Old Gods of Appalachia.

Dream Trip: Retracing my maternal grandfather’s journey by bicycle from Calais to Marseilles to Bordeaux and then by train to Paris and Le Havre.  This was in 1905 when he was 21 years old.  He kept a journal of his adventure.  It’s a fascinating look into another time, and his writing is not half-bad! He later graduated from law school and became a practicing attorney.

Last thing I Googled: Recipe for Jewish-style beef brisket in the Instant Pot. A change from my usual goyishe pot roast.

An estimate of how many physical books I own: Hundreds of them, of course. Mostly local books.

Favorite author: Tolkien and Jacqueline Carey.

A popular book I've never read and never intend to read: A Song of Ice and Fire Series. While I like the premise, I'm not interested in it. Also the fandom makes me want to stay away from the books. Too many bad takes and fandom wank. Sorry Martin.

A popular book I thought was just meh: Sarah J Maas books. My irl friends like her books but it's a no for me. It's typical YA so no longer fits my taste. I don't typically consume YA books anymore unless it comes from local fantasy authors (and more because I want to support them, no matter the writing quality) or the exceptionally good ones.

Longest book I own: Since I'm currently away from hometown (so, away from my bookshelf) I don't know the actual longest book I own. If I remember correctly, it's Nibiru, an Indonesian fantasy novel.

Longest series I own all the books to: Vandaria Saga, Indonesian fantasy series. 11 books. The story is not the best but pretty solid and I've committed to support local fantasy authors so I wanted to collect all the books. They are fricking hard to find.

Prettiest book I own: Some Tolkien's books with illustrations, so Children of Húrin, Beren and Lúthien, and The Fall of Gondolin. There's also Fantasy Fiesta, Indonesian fantasy short story anthology books. The cover is pretty.

A book or series I wish more people knew about: Kushiel Series and The Sundering Series by Jacqueline Carey, Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.

Book I'm reading now: Currently rereading Kushiel Series (the Phèdre's trilogy one) because the main antagonist there (Melisande) is the biggest inspiration for my oc Valamorne's personality and mannerisms. I want to study her, why she works as a character.

Books that's been on my TBR list for a while but still haven't got around to it: I want to read Captive Prince! (Haha I blame @awesome-bluehair-universe for regularly posting awesome fanarts about that book) but I need to finish my reread first. Also gothic horror novels. I've heard good things about the genre that may suit my taste but I don't know which one to read first. The list is daunting. Then books by Mercedes Lackey that someone recommended some time ago. Then Malazan Series. I've read the first book but since it's a lot, I read shorter series first.

Do you have any books in a language other than english: Of course. I'm Indonesian so I have lots of Indonesian books.

And lastly, paperback, hardcover, or ebook: I like the feeling of owning and holding a physical book, so either paperback or hardcover. But since my house is small so it's not possible to have too many physical books, ebook is fine too.
