Here's a snippet of something I started writing yesterday. It hit me out of nowhere, and once I came out of the fugue state, I discovered I'd written 4,000 words.

The premise: Buck is in the middle of making room for his stuff in Tommy's closet when he finds an old phone hidden in a shoebox. Unexpectedly, it starts ringing.

"Sorry, but I don't negotiate with terrorists," Tommy says, then chucks the hornworm into the bucket by his feet. It lands inside with a muted thunk. There must be a bunch more of the little bastards in there.

"USA! USA!" Buck chants, pumping a fist into the air as he gets closer.

Cracking up, Tommy dashes the back of his gloved hand across his forehead. All it does is smear dirt and make him look rugged and disgustingly sexy. Buck wants to lick every drop of sweat from his body. 

"Done already? Please tell me I got to keep at least three hangers."

"Is there a henley shortage coming that the rest of us aren't ready for? Jesus." Buck holds up the Nike box and says. "I, uh, found this. Or it found me? It started ringing out of nowhere and scared the living shit out of me."

The moment Tommy claps eyes on it, something fascinating happens. Every muscle in his body visibly tenses, like a wave that starts at his jaw and washes its way down, leaving quiet devastation in its wake. In a single almost fluid motion, he straightens up from his lean and folds his hands at the small of his back. Shoulders back, chin up, feet apart. Parade rest. 

Buck's eyebrows hit his hairline. "Tommy?"

"It started ringing." It's not a question or even an accusation. Tommy says it like a simple statement of fact, his voice is flat as a board, the edges sharp enough to draw blood. "It just... started ringing."

"I, uh, yeah?" Buck holds out the box to him, jostling the phone inside, but Tommy doesn't move to take it. 

In fact, Tommy does nothing. Tommy says nothing. Buck has to squint to confirm that he's even breathing. 

After the most terrifyingly silent thirty seconds of Buck's life, Tommy shifts his gaze from Buck to, oddly enough, the sky.

"Did you answer it?"

"No, of course not!" Just because they're on rock solid ground now doesn't mean there aren't still fault lines beneath the surface. He at least thought he knew most of them. "I-I wouldn't, I swear. I just let it ring."

Tommy's nostrils flare. If his lips were any thinner, they'd probably disappear. 

"Um, I'm sorry. I know you said I could have free rein, but I didn't mean..." He has no idea how to end that sentence. He didn't mean to do what? Dig up something that Tommy obviously tried to bury? Make room for himself in Tommy's closet? Make room for himself in Tommy's life in the first place? 

A moment passes, and then the statue that was once his boyfriend shivers back to life. Tommy closes his eyes, exhales, and steps forward to take the box from Buck's trembling hands, tucking it under his arm. He wraps the other around Buck's waist and draws him close for a kiss. Buck pushes into it gratefully.

"Sorry," Tommy says against his mouth, then pecks it again before drawing back. "Sorry, I'm being an asshole. Get that look off your face, you did nothing wrong, okay? I was just... surprised to see it. I forgot it was even in there."

"What is it?" Buck mentally slaps himself. "I mean, I know it's a phone, but who was on the other end of it?"

Tommy doesn't answer right away. Instead he looks up at the sky again for a long moment, a strange smile quirking at the corners of his mouth. When he looks back at Buck, his pupils have shrunken to pinpricks. "Think of it like, uh, an old war injury acting up. It's nothing for you to worry about."

"Is it something for you to worry about?"

the clock ticks steadily in the empty library. you sit, hunched over your laptop with a grimace, reaching out to grip your cup of coffee and take a long sip.

you hated taking linguistics.

this class was the bane of your existence, and you couldn’t seem to figure anything out, you didn’t know how socio-economic status influenced language usage. you hardly knew what socio economic meant.

as you click through your plethora of tabs, you see one tab you opened (in your hour of increasing desperation). “hire a private tutor! call this number ___”

seeing as you had money to spare, and 4 days until midterms started, you decided to hire him.

‘park seonghwa, linguistics tutor!’

just what you needed.

you click your laptop off, checking the time on your phone.

1:23am.

you decide it’s time to pack up and get home, you needed the sleep, seeing as you had a session tomorrow.

you walk into the crowded library seeing people everywhere. your breath hitches as you see a man approaching you. is he ever on campus, you’ve never seen him before.

“hi! are you… Y/N?” the kind man asks.

you stood absolutely frozen.

god was he sexy.

the way his glasses sat prettily on his nose, how plump and pink his lips were, how much his silver hair complimented his eyes. oh and the rings on his fingers, god.

“if you’re not.. i can jus-“

“no no no! i’m sorry, so sorry. i-i am Y/N. are you…”

“park seonghwa! nice to meet you!” he says, outstretching a hand

you grip it tightly, shaking his hand.

god the way his fingers wrapped around yours.. you wished they were around your throat. but you quickly shake yourself out of your thoughts.

“i set up for us over here, come on” he says in a tone that makes your heart flutter. you follow him hesitantly, not knowing what to expect.

and to your shock, he’s got a couple of water bottles and snacks for you both to share.

“take a seat” he says, sitting in the seat opposite of yours.

“let’s get started, shall we? what are you struggling with?” seonghwa says, his slender fingers twirling and clicking the pen.

your eyes fly to his fingers again. the sleek designs carved into the chunky silver rings immediately catching your attention.

“well.. i’m having problems with uhm.. just abstract concepts..” you say, your eyes slowly trailing up his face.

“ahh. that’s quite easy. look, to grasp abstract concepts.. you should start with puzzles, okay? anything for visualization.” he says, reaching over you to write something on the empty loose leaf paper that sat infront of you.

the scent of his cologne.. god it was intoxicating. your eyes follow his slender fingers as he draws out a model for you.

“alright. so what you wanna do is..”

after a few hours of tutoring, you seem to finally grasp the concept. nodding and asking (dumb) questions. seonghwa decides to end the session.

“alright. i think you should be good, one last question though. what are the core components of a language?” he asks, eyes boring into yours.

you shift in your seat.. “i think.. i only remember uhm.. phonology..?”

“come on, y/n-ah. 4 more, you can do it.” he says in a low and unusually sultry tone.

your face heats up, though seonghwa doesn’t seem to notice.

“phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics.. uhm.. and pragmatics?” you blurt, feeling intensely overwhelmed

“atta girl. you got it.” seonghwa says, rubbing your hand softly. “alright, that’s our session.” he says, starting to pack up his stuff.

you sigh softly, packing up your stuff as well.

“c-can i.. schedule a session for tomorrow?” you ask seonghwa nervously

“i’ll be quite busy tomorrow, you’ll have to come to my apartment pretty late, i’ll send you the address.” he says, bidding you goodbye.

as you lay in bed that night, your thoughts dart back to him. god.. seonghwa. the way his fingers twirled that pen around, the way his voice sounded when he praised you..

“atta girl. you got it”

before you could even realize what was happening, your hands drifted down your thighs, lazily running a finger over your (now dampened) panties. his words replayed in your mind, constant scenarios flashing through your head

your fingers rubbed at your oversensitive clit, your head falling to the side as you let out soft moans. you wished that these were his fingers, rubbing you so gently.

you didn’t even know how long it took you to cum, whimpers of his name as you finished.

god you felt so embarrassed. cumming to a guy you hardly knew?

you decided to just let it be, turning over and quickly falling asleep.

the tips of your ears redden as you walk through the snow. the freezing cold snowflakes hitting your face. why would you wear a skirt in winter?

you find his apartment, room 1117 . you knock on the door, hoping he’d answer soon. this cold was biting you.

the door soon slips open. “sorry to keep you waiting” seonghwa says in his soft tone, his eyes dancing over your form before looking back up.

you couldn’t lie and say yours didn’t too. the way his grey sweatpants defined his slender waist. the way his baggy top outlined his figure in the light.

“come on in” he says. you quickly slip your shoes off before walking into his apartment. “i’ll get that for you.” the older says, removing your coat kindly for you. “thank you.” you say softly

“it’s no problem, really.” he says. “follow me”

seonghwa‘s study is just around the corner, two burgundy rolling chairs sit next to eachother at the clear desk. “you can take a seat” seonghwa says with his honey voice.

“wanna get started?” seonghwa asks and you nod.

“alright, that’s the 4 hour mark. let’s take a little break, shall we?” seonghwa says, his slender fingers tracing the spine of the textbook infront of you, his rings clinking together softly.

you nod, your face heating up slightly. “need anything?” seonghwa asks. “uhm.. no not really.. thanks though”

seonghwa smiles at you. “hungry?” he asks, grabbing a tiny clear box of blueberries from a grocery bag on the side of the desk

“just a little bit” you reply, shifting in your seat. “well, have some of these” seonghwa says, handing you the clear, plastic box. “i’ve heard blueberries help with knowledge retention.” seonghwa says matter-of-factly.

“that sounds like bullshit” you say, a slight teasing smile on your face as you pop one into your mouth.

“well we can test the theory.” seonghwa chimes. you pop another one into your mouth, noticing seonghwa scooting his chair tantalizingly close to yours.

“are those blueberries good?” he asks.

“delicious.” you say happily.

“i think i’ll try a couple, too.” seonghwa says before his lips crash onto yours

of course you didn’t expect that, but it was just as you imagined. his soft, plush lips on yours. god it was euphoric.

to your dismay, he pulls away after a bit, licking his lips off to savor that blueberry flavoring. “they’re quite delicious aren’t they?” seonghwa comments. a slight smile on his face

your face is on fire, trying to soothe the heat in your cheeks with a few more of those cold blueberries. “uhm s-seong-“

“come on baby, like you didn’t want it? i saw how you eye’d me up and down when i opened the door.” seonghwa purrs, his voice a low whisper.

“i know you’ve been thinking about me.”

your lips crash back together in a fiery dance of passion, his hands roam your torso and his slender fingers begin to unbutton your shirt.

seonghwa pulls away after a bit, hands frantically unbuttoning your shirt as you see the growing hardness in his pants.

“s-seonghwa..” you stutter, but you don’t stop him, or pull away. “hm darling? do you not want this?” he asks, (and you don’t answer) his hands tugging your shirt off your shoulders, revealing a red, lacy bra. “fuck.” seonghwa groans, his cold, ringed fingers slipping underneath your bra, pinching and twisting at your nipples.

your eyes widen, a soft moan escaping your slightly parted lips. “h-hwa..” you start, but his slender fingers sliding in between your legs cause you to lose your train of thought.

he takes no time to slide your panties to the side and slip a digit in between your folds. you bite back a moan as he slips his finger deeper, the cold silver rings causing your walls to flutter.

“s-seonghwa!” you moan, gripping the arm of the chair as he slides another finger in, pushing them in and out at an unrelenting pace.

the echoing study room is filled with wet sounds, and you and seonghwa’s groans.

“yeah, you like that baby?” seonghwa asks, his tone a sickly sweet hint of faux sweetness. his fingers quicken, causing you to moan loudly, throwing your head back.

“guess i’ll take that as a yes.”

before you know it, he’s sloppily bending you over the clear desk, unbuckling his pants as he lifts your skirt up, a light spank coming down on the supple skin.

you felt dirty.

as seonghwa slid his tip across your folds, slightly slipping it in, causing you to let out a shocked groan.

as seonghwa slides into you, aside from your shared groans, it goes silent.

“you take cock like this all the time?”

your eyes widen, you didn’t expect his words to make you feel some way, but they did.

but seonghwa doesn’t stop there.

“didn’t know miss ‘top of her class’ was such a cockslut. and with your tutor?” seonghwa lets out a dry laugh before starting to thrust into you.

you let out a harsh yelp, his thrusts causing the desk your torso lies on to buck against the wall, causing a sharp banging sound.

“f-fuck. god!” seonghwa moans from behind you, already feeling close to the edge.

you felt nothing but pure bliss.

your eyes shut as seonghwa’s thrusts grow unrelenting, his fingers knotting in your hair. “f-fuck. you’re so t-tight” seonghwa says, his hips stuttering.

seonghwa’s grip on your waist tightens as your knees buckle, a choked but pleasured sob coming out of you as you reach your climax.

seonghwa followed not too far behind, burying himself deep as he shoots his load into you.

he pulls out quickly, sitting down on one of the rolling chairs. you follow suit, his load spilling out of you onto the chair.

“you think you’ve learned the material?” seonghwa says, his beautiful silver hair a mess on his sweat streamed forehead.

“definitely. might need one more session though.”

[Start ID. A redraw of the official icons of the ten named slugcats from Rain World, arranged in two rows: Survivor, Monk, Hunter, Nightcat, and Gourmand in the first, Artificer, Rivulet, Spearmaster, Saint and Enot/Inv in the second. Each is drawn in roughly the same pose as in the original art and fitted with speculative interpretations of their biology, and the second image is a “dead” version of this. For example, all ten have slug-like rhinophores in place of ears, cuttlefish-like colorful eyes with strangely-shaped pupils, cephalopod-like beak "teeth", expressive barbels or oral tentacles at the corners of mouths, spiny radulas, and the frilly mantle fringes of sea slugs, though otherwise their faces are squishy, simple and mammalian-shaped.

Cream-colored Survivor and yellow Monk both share triangular, bicolored spots matching their eyes (which are tan and brown, and two shades of blue, respectively), small, bumpy fringes, and relatively neutral looks on their faces. Defensive-looking Hunter is mostly a dull orange-pink, though their blobby fringe is a more violent red and their back is purple and marred with lumps. Nightcat is navy blue and flecked with dots of yellow and teal, their rolled rhinophores are a lighter blue, and their shading fractures into stars in some places. Gourmand is almost uniformly tan, their wide, very ruffly white mantle fringe bordered by a spray of white spots, and their beak sticks out from either corner of their smile. Primarily red Artificer, snarling, has yellow markings of multiple sorts, a prominent yellow dewlap and their characteristic dark scar taking out a chunk of its face. Rivulet is a darker blue than usual, with long barbels, red gills and rings, countershading, and a cheerful expression, sticking out their radula. Spearmaster is purple with orange accents, eyes and spots, a large fringe and spines down their back. Saint’s green caryophyllidia are marked by small, yellow diamonds, and their long, thin radula extends far below them. Enot is decorated with mottled red stripes, blue patches, yellow stars, and an uneven and almost cartoonish imitation of blush, though generally the same deep blue as Nightcat, a passive or almost slightly smug look on their face and their rolled rhinophores out to either side.

In the second image, nine of the slugcats’ eyes are crossed out, indicating that these are death icons. They look fairly the same, with mostly expression differences. Survivor is caught in the beginning of a threat display, a karma flower sprouts from Monk’s side, Hunter is burdened with overgrowing, purple and blue rot, Nightcat’s rhinophores are pinned back, and Gourmand looks mildly disheartened. For the final row, Artificer bites its radula between small plumes of smoke, Rivulet drops their expression, Spearmaster looks very startled, Saint looks almost entirely the same besides half-open eyes and their markings greater in number, and Enot grins confusedly. Design notes and shout-outs under cut! :]

The following people are some of those who’ve inspired my designs most since I started this eight months ago (or just inspired me to get a little weirder with slugcat biology), among many others for sure, and I thank them for it–but this is simply to bring attention to artists I find cool, and in no way an obligation to interact or anything :]

Survivor: Surprisingly the hardest to pin down the colors for, since nothing with its sibling's palette seemed to match up right (I did have to add in a little blue somewhere for Monk, the beginning of making it clear how much I’m simply going based off of vibes for the colors of scug innards). I consider them, Monk and Gourmand to be part of the same gene pool of slugcats, and even possibly the same colony even if the latter isn't really related, so took a bit of Gourmand's coloring and fit them in with their inspiration: Goniobranchus verrieri. They serve as a bit of an introduction to my ideas of scug traits (i find it really fun how many people have thought to add so many silly sluglike fixtures of biology completely independent of me, buuut here I’m mostly talking about species variation), and like in-game they’re pretty average! They, Monk and Hunter have a couple scars sourced from a piece of Joar's concept art that I'm failing to find, those across the bridge of the nose, under the eyes, and across the rhinophores, respectively, and my Survivor interpretation features many on the back of the neck, as a result of survived lizard bites.

Monk: Their coloring is primarily based off the fact that I associate them with blue fruits, honestly, a bit because I was compelled to establish a familiarity with Rivulet, and lastly inspired by the spots of Goniobranchus kuniei (and geminus, less important to me as one of my characters is a kuniei instead, but more fitting). Between the yellow + blue and the circular marking in the center of their face, they’re meant to bear a little resemblance to an iterator that shares similarities with the characterization I’ve given them, and similar coding of her sibling can be seen on Survivor’s markings around the eyes. As both a “default” slugcat and one whose campaign I haven’t played, though, I can’t say I have much more to point out about em.

Hunter: The whole rot thing made for a really fun time drawing them, and while the color change on their back is a result of this, it’s also an excuse to relate them to Babakina festiva, arguably my favorite sea slug (mostly for sentimental purposes). And to Spearmaster, a fellow messenger slugcat, and it serves as a gradient between Hunter’s pink and the “traditional” color of Rot seen in the DLLs. Aside from their affliction, they’d actually be the plainest in terms of design, as they don’t have any patterns or quirks of body type, just the red + purple and strange lumps + possible malnutrition. I can’t remember if NSH had created them in particular or just...caught + released or something, but it probably wouldn’t be strange for a lab-grown slugcat to be simple like that.

Gourmand: Like the two above, they’re rather plain in terms of coloring and adaptation, and like the two above, I find that fun. I decided it would be nice to avert the “all slugcats being of the same body type, and Gourmand’s out of place as the exception” thing by just...adding more fat to all of them, really. I did want to emphasize their sheer bulk even so, both fat and muscular (not like I couldn’t have still gone further with it, of course, but slugcat anatomy can be a little obfuscating sometimes, and they were intended to look rather plush considering personal size headcanons and therefore the lack of proper gravity), and the thick and flounced mantle looked like a good addition, as per their sea slug Glossodoris hikuerensis. Unlike Survivor and Monk, I didn’t attempt to hold their resemblance to any particular other character (which means a little less to balance out the “default gene pool” thing), so those are all the design notes I have for em.

Artificer: The second slugcat I’ve ever played, or finished the campaign of, my favorite for at least a long time, and the first thing I did was give them yellow accents, the shape of which have troubled me slightly (not quite like the spots or stripes of the others). They’re both a little more appealing and more explosive-looking to me, and considering how early on I played Arti, actually present in some of my older art. It does give them a little resemblance to Saint (completely intentional, two slugcats with strange relations to karma), as well as the fact that its radula is green for familiarity with one of its children (at some point it was going to have all-green markings, even!). I’m generous with their scars, partly because it was fun to overemphasize the one on their face and partly because it does seem like a reckless slugcat, on top of the dangers of its explosive abilities–I’ll probably just keep adding more forever. Mostly-red sea slugs aren’t too common, but Hexabranchus sanguineus works for sure. The ridged, yellow dewlap can expand for combustion purposes, or something along those lines. Arti’s where I began experimenting with a lot of the mildly-offkilter features seen in my interpretation of slugcats, as they’ve once again been a favorite from the start.

Rivulet: I've obviously given other slugcats spots, deeply enjoy the bubbly-soda markings of other peoples' slugcats, and thought seal riv would be cute. Despite not too closely resembling it, they've been government-assigned Hypselodoris bennetti, for color reasons and for a couple sentimental ones. Originally, the colors of every scug were meant to match up with the custom colors I gave them at the beginning of their campaigns, (though Arti, Gourm and Spearmy are the only three who actually apply here, since I've only played through half the slugcats: I gave arti the yellow as mentioned above, gourm brown eyes and spearmy light pink spears, furthered by the outskirts pearl accompanying me and that palette all the way to moon. Tolerance training for eternity in hell cause I already knew about the maroon pearl quest). I initially gave them the colors of the bi flag for fun... but with the limited palette of this image, I was left without pink for a while and decided to see how they'd look in red. I then realized how they now wonderfully matched Moon, and besides, red's a sort of camouflage in deep water! As a side-note, the difference between their eyes and those of others always bothered me a little for anatomical purposes, and the cephalopod eyes were probably influenced by this!

Spearmaster: Inspired as much as possible by @notyourfunnyman ’s wonderful spearmy: designed in a way that helps it fit in with scavengers, at least between the long sensory tentacles, big ruff, back spines and slightly thin/distended anatomy, a form of defensive mimicry. I always had annulate rhinophores in mind, for a little diversity sure, but mostly because the shape reminds me of radio antennae and communication towers (seems fitting for the comms array and being a messenger slugcat)! I started searching for a real-life slug to give them just by looking up their rhinophore shape...and was met immediately and coincidentally with annulate-topped nudibranchs that fit them more perfectly than I could've imagined: Flabellina and surrounding clades, I think Paraflabellina ischitana works very nicely. The orange was completely unplanned, but there wasn’t a place for light pink among the other slugcats’ palettes, and importantly it likens them to both Hunter and Seven Red Suns a little more.

Saint: I am very much a non-furred slugcat enjoyer, with respect to those who aren’t, so figuring out the only visibly furred slugcat was an interesting challenge. I’ve decided that they likely have other, milder adaptations for help in the cold, mainly just more efficient fat storage, and what looks vaguely like fur is instead a bunch of tubercles (called caryophillia, for the second reminder out of three). Their inspiration doesn’t have these, however, Miamira sinuata’s numerous yellow and blue spots (not to mention...whatever’s going on with that shape) and general effect of being the only really green nudibranch I could find were probably perfect for a strange green echo. Not pictured, but their beak-teeth are tiny and flat to make a surface for grinding soft food against with the lack of a functioning radula, which is tipped with a specialized spiny “grapple-hook” for better traction/grip (not to mention the numerous little teeth running down the whole thing).

(Best part of hiding this under a readmore means edits will be seen by all reblogs, I'm mostly sure, because I completely forgot to mention! The spots on their forehead are simple eyes. Their camera eyes appear closed in-game, I like to believe their complex eyesight is rather poor anyways or otherwise reason that they aren't seeing out of those, and while this was far from her REASON for attunement with the world, it does help compensate for mainly viewing it through a canvas of simple light and dark. This, and the fact that their swapped-out "fur" is not only to commit to a lack of hairs but contributes to sensory input!)

Nightcat/Enot: I guess you could say I found the “these two are technically the same person” compelling. (E.g. similar colors, both very strange and enigmatic, and Enot/Inv/Sofanthiel’s remark during the dating sim about getting removed from Arena Mode.) I doubt they’re the only two slugcats in their body, considering humans with DID tend to have more than a few (and I find it very funny that a slugcat bearing resemblance to Nightcat appears in Gourmand’s ending. They’re allowed in the colony and Enot isn’t </3), and I have to credit @faelingdraws ’s art for being what convinced me on it! Their design inspirations come down to trying to balance a few different ideas: making the patterns and palettes of both look oddly similar (special mention to the stars, since those are fun to draw), basing them off of Felimare sechurana and juliae respectively, using blocks of color with the same placement as in Enot’s official art, and specifically making Enot look...biologically reasonable and imperfect, whilst also clearly trying to imitate human displays of emotion (what with...the eyes and blush on that one piece of official art).

Mini Silverborn Countdown

If you’ve been around for a few years, you’ve seen me vaguely mention a “Silverborn Countdown Challenge” several times. It’s been delayed and changed as many times as the book itself, lol.

If anyone wants sort of a low-stakes, very chill and spaced out version of this ye olde never tackled challenge to complete in the next year before Silverborn, I propose what I’m doing:

I need to redraw this comic strip its so damn wholesome. I started reading the Morbius comic books originally I just wanna observe the man’s fashion sense, BUT I ended up loving him even more lmao.Now he’s my fav character ever in the Marvel franchise.

I drew MCU Jack Russell here, he’s literally too pure for this world and I love Gael’s portrayal of him.

Not ever drawing the Jared Leto version, I hate the 2022 film version with a burning passion
