Other than the blatant sexism of it, I think part of why it bothers me so much that Valka was reduced to 'Mother figure' in the third movie because I've always felt that despite their efforts, Hiccup will probably never genuinely see Valka as a mother figure since she didn't actually raise him and he's an adult by the time they meet. Like yes, of course he knows she's his mom but they don't have that kind of relationship and likely never will.

I've always thought this based on a few things, mostly when she apologizes and says "can you give me another chance" because all Hiccup does in response is smile sadly, he never verbally forgives her (that I can remember) so she immediately starts going on about how she can teach him about dragons and that's what connects them, but very little else because they don't actually know each other (And it's so sad because you can tell Valka's trying so hard, she loves Hiccup and he loves her but no amount of talking about dragons will make up for two decades of absence).

The other main thing that I think about with this is that cut footage from when Valka was still planned to be the antagonist, where Hiccup says: "fine! I guess I kinda like the idea of having a mom, alright?" Despite being scrapped, it ties in well with how excited he was for them to all be a family again when Stoick shows up because that excitement is definitely based on the very unrealistic, idealized version of what a 'complete' family is, what Hiccup didn't get to grow up with but probably fantasized about having.

I think the way circumstances kind of forced Hiccup and Valka together could've been really interesting to explore, them mourning Stoick together, exchanging stories about him, Hiccup actually getting to know her outside of the very surface level 'expert dragon lady'. I think Gobber could've really helped with this, bridging the gap between them since he actually knew Valka and has known Hiccup for his entire life (and has experience doing this exact thing with Hiccup and Stoick years ago).

The single year between httyd2 and thw would definitely not have been long enough for it, but I think after a while Hiccup and Valka could be good friends. But they'll never be as close as they could've been and they both know that.

there are not enough words to describe how much mithrun means to me. there is something wonderful about a character who has to rediscover themselves after having their sense of identity stripped away from them except for one thing that they have for their reason to keep going.

as someone who was in a similar position, mithrun's journey means a lot to me. someone who acted on a desire that, at least in the short term, provided some semblance of direction but would inevitably burn out in the long run. desiring revenge wasn't sustainable, yet it was the only thing that kept mithrun going. because that was all he had left of his identity.

but in the end, when mithrun realized that he wanted to do something else? that he wanted to live? i cried so hard.

Um. Hi. I follow you on th, extremely obsessed with the weird psycho-sexual shit you’ve been doing with Rock and Breaker.. ESPECIALLY whoever the blond Rock is obsessed with is. That dynamic is so…. Rips my hair out. Also big fan of how transparently Breaker is like.. such an awful person. Big big fan. Like genuinely. If I may.. I love being able to see that many things in Breaker’s life have caused him to be uncomfortable with sexuality especially involving him and I love the way he fails to articulate that kindly and how it clashes with Rock who’s been taught that sexuality is The way to Give to your partner, and this becomes accentuated with his next partner. Being so sexually rejected previously adds to how much he enjoys masochism now. You’re doing insane and awesome things with your ocs. So so so so sorry if this is a weird ask I’m just. Such a fan

YAY (I really need to post these guys here as well...) I've been really enamored with this ask. You caught onto the core of these characters without hearing any of the 1000 conversations I've had about them... Come off of anon so we can kiss.

I LOVEEE writing interactions between characters that just fucking suck or otherwise have something really strange up with them.

Once I figure out how I want to present them, I will be discussing these characters more in depth here... though there are some things I do not want to directly post to my primary blog here LOL.

I got left alone with OCs too long and made an AU of an AU. And started caring wayyy too much about all of their interpersonal relationships and also divorce and now they live in Houston.

Rock and Fauzi eventually get married and have a beautiful home together. And Breaker is there also. It's really funny.
