Sagt ihm, er soll auf der Lichtung stehen / Thymian ist da und auch Rosmarin / Mit Kraft zwischen Ufer und Wellen bestehen / Nur so kann er seine Liebste sehen...

The Lana Del Rey / Mitski / Fiona Apple girlies would go fucking insane for Portishead. Not quite visceral - but a quiet intensity to it instead, something subtle and sultry bereft near entirely of strings; an eerie sort of flair to it that I enjoy sinking into. you might, too, if you’ll let yourself!
at least, relief
a mother’s son has left me sheer
the shores i seek
are crimson tastes divine
can’t make myself heard
no matter how hard i scream
oh, sensation
sin, slave of sensation
Biscuit
covered by the blind belief
that fantasies of sinful screens
bear the facts, assume the dye
end the vows, no need to lie, enjoy
take a ride, take a shot now
‘cause nobody loves me; it’s true
not like you do
Sour times
you don’t get somethin’ for nothing
mm, gotta try a little harder
it could be sweet
like a long forgotten dream
It Could Be Sweet

YALL i'm back on my lyricism bullshit ->note: i have not watched the full musical, nor listened to it, so this is just my interpretation of the one song
We Become We: Journey to Bethlehem
right off the bat, Joseph takes the lead in the song [0:10] -> this isn't super important right now, BUT IT WILL COME UP AGAIN -> what really draws my attention is the words themselves
"No longer known as just you and me" and then a little later "Stuck here forever"
it makes sense, this an arranged marriage, they don't really know each other. they're testing out the waters. He's of course, a little hesitant
BUT, then Mary's part comes up [0:30] and she doesn't get solo vocals like Joseph does UNTIL [0:50] where she sings:
"It's a step of faith we have to take sometimes" his voice is cuts right back before she even finishes the final word "If I'm with you, I can take it."
that hesitance from the beginning is GONE. Joseph is full heartedly into this marriage now, so much so that Mary's own trepidation is pretty much ignored [given the time period, that makes sense]
"But if we are one, what happens to you and I?" "If I'm with you, I will make it."
again, Joseph's vocals immediately overpower hers [1:00]. Mary's voice, as she wonders what's going to happen to their individuality- to her individuality as she becomes his wife- is softened as she sustains "I" and as Joseph sings "I will make it"
not "we will make it"
at [1:15] they've tied the knot, they're singing and dancing together and Mary seems to be coming to terms and being happy with this marriage. Her vocals are louder, more harmonized with his instead of just supporting -> and then there's these lines:
"No choice in the matter." obviously, they're both still a little iffy "I could never choose to love another" "Maybe one day I can learn to love you, too."
Joseph doesn't sing we because they're both still unsure -> they're literally asking each other "can we become we"
can we do this together; he's asking her if she'll do this with him and she's asking him if it'll truly be "we"
if they'll truly be a partnership
THIS SONG IS SO GOOD PEOPLE OML -> lmk know your thoughts on all this!! :D and if there's another song you want me to do, feel free to tell me!

Hello, do you think is possible that we will get a FITF live album? Louis and the band sound so good on tour.
they doooo! I love Steve's arrangements and additions to the songs so much! Honestly I have no idea; on the one hand it seems like Louis might be more focused on moving towards new stuff, like we are still in FITF mode but by the time it came out he had had it forever and now he's well into LT3 and probably feeling more excited about those new songs and sounds; on the other hand he is very good at working the industry stuff and all the angles and it's basically free money, right? He has said FITF was a further step towards the sound he wants most rather than the finish line, so it's possible that as happened with Walls as he works more on the new one he is getting less enthused about sharing the old stuff; but I think adding Steve's arrangements and just moving away from some of the songs seems to have lessened that this time around, so maybe that isn't a factor. Here's the thing though: the only way it would happen or make sense I think would be if it was recorded pretty recently, like one of the UK shows; the show was still being tweaked and gelled and cooking until then. But if they wanted to make vinyl (and surely they would? fancy double vinyl of live albums is SUCH a thing), that is very very long process of waiting around these days. First you have to get lacquers made (this is the physical thing that the recording is cut into that all the records are duplicates of- if you want quality it has to be more or less handmade by an artisan) but one of the two places left in the world that made those burnt to the ground in 2020 so there's a super long wait time on that. Then it just has to get made; but there are basically ten large scale factories left (again, in the WORLD) that press records so that also has a very long wait time... so it would take forever and the thing is I think we're getting LT3 in the late fall/ early winter (I bet he's using this month to finish it up so it can begin this lengthy process). So I kind of don't think so, like I guess they could do a CD/ cassette/ digital only in late spring and make so much money, and it would be fun, but who knows. Either way, I just hope Louis has Steve do some production work on LT3, I like his sounds and ideas a lot, and that he keeps him around to do his tours forever!

finally branching out from practising basic scales and chords to learn a first song, "let your hair hang down", since the intro's a very easy progression and it's fun hehe

Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe (1967)
"And Papa said to Mama, as he passed around the black-eyed peas:
'Well, Billie Joe never had a lick of sense; pass the biscuits, please.
There's five more acres in the lower forty I got to plow'
And Mama said it was a shame about Billie Joe, anyhow.
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billie Joe McAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"
[...]
"Mama said to me, 'Child, what's happened to your appetite?
I've been cookin' all morning, and you haven't touched a single bite.
That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday - oh, by the way
He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge
And she and Billie Joe was throwin' something off the Tallahatchie Bridge'"
#favourite lyrics#bobbie gentry#ode to billie joe#1967#jimmie haskell#ode to billy joe#<- as this fairly regularly gets styled‚ tho Billie is correct and the spelling that appeared on the label originally#i overuse the term but i really think it's unavoidable here: this song is an absolute masterpiece of narrative songwriting#Gentry's ambition had only really been to work as a lyricist; she recorded this as part of her first demo‚ singing the songs herself#because it was cheaper than hiring a singer for the sessions. the demo grabbed the attention of Kelly Gordon at Capitol‚ who signed Gentry#and got to work producing her first album. the centre point of the album‚ and her first single‚ was to be Mississippi Delta; there wasn't#much interest in the Southern gothic tinged tale of secrets and 'unconscious cruelty' (as Gentry dubbed it) of Ode‚ and it was regarded#with little interest by Gordon (when arranger Haskell asked him what instruments he should add to Gentry's stripped down vocal and guitar l#the producer replied curtly that it didn't matter because nobody would ever hear it). Ode was assigned as b side to Mississippi Delta as#almost an afterthought‚ but this was the era in which US radio djs frequently chose which side of a single they wanted to play and the#unanimous decision was Ode; here was something special‚ a dark and tantalising mystery of a song obscured by the humdrum idle conversation#of an unthinking family. it ignited a kind of obsessive curiosity among listeners‚ desperate to find out what exactly the unnamed singer#and Billie Joe were throwing off the bridge‚ why did Billie Joe take his own life‚ why do the singer's gamily clearly not know about#their obvious relationship? Gentry‚ for her own part‚ resisted all attempts to glean further information about the actions of her song's#protagonist. she rightly tried to steer interested parties back towards what is arguably the real horror of the song‚ that unconscious#cruelty; a family that can eat and chatter and squabble even as they discuss the suicide of a boy they've known all their lives‚ even as#the clearly affected girlfriend of the boy (their own sister and daughter) sits in dumbstruck silence‚ unable to articulate her feelings#the original cut of the song ran more than 7 minutes and had to be mercilessly hacked down to fit a 45 single suitable length. no one had#expected much of anything from the song but it was to catapult Gentry to almost instant stardom; the forthcoming album was retitled after#the song that was now its focus; Ode went on to top the Billboard Hot 100‚ won a clutch of grammys and ended up selling more than 3 million#copies worldwide. Gentry had captured the imagination of a nation and beyond‚ but her success was tempered by legal challenges (from#producers demanding greater royalties) and a general dissatisfaction with her newfound stardom: it would last a little more than a decade#and include her own tv shows‚ more awards and smash hit singles; then just as suddenly as she'd shot to fame‚ Bobbie retreated from it#retiring from both the business and from public life. she hasn't made a public appearance since the early 80s‚ nor does she grant interview#but so what? if she's happy? i hope she's happy. she left us enough great music to enjoy. let her have her peace and quiet
