What if Stanley was transfem and only Ford knew about it (vaguely) when they were kids in the form of Stan asking hypotheticals when they were growing up. What if Stan grew up always thinking about it in the back of his mind. What if Stan only started to actually think about it when he got kicked out because he couldn’t afford to cut his hair. What if he started to style his hair like his Ma. What if she started wearing hoops like her Ma. What if she made plenty new identities with her new look and ignored anyone who would question it (Not like she knew anyone to ask but still). What if she kept her name. What if the years on the road were simultaneously the worst and best years of her life because of the obvious and because it was the first time she was unapologetically herself.

What if she was in a motel and got a postcard from the brother she hasn’t dared say a word to on payphones. What if she still drove 20 hours to help him, damn the last time they saw each other. What if she hesitated a bit longer on the door before biting the bullet. What if everything was okay because Ford was so incredibly surprised and curiosity overrided his paranoia.

What if they lived together for a little while getting to know each other again. What if they fought all the time because Ford was still paranoid and put of options. What if they fought this time because they talked, really talked. What if Stan said that she was going to stay by him anyways despite what happened. What if Ford was trying to send Stan away to for once in his life protect her too. What if they still fought. What if everything that happened still happened.

What if Stan could still deepen her voice if she wanted to. What if Stan still really looked like Ford. What if Stan still took Fords name. What if he cut his hair for the first time in years and stopped taking estrogen to attend a funeral that he orchestrated. What if he still spent 30 years in a house that isn’t his looking like a person he hasn’t seen in the longest time.

What if he fixes the portal and its on by sheer trust alone from a grand-niece that loves him so much. What if instead of a punch to the jaw, its a tight hug with tears.

What if instead of accusations, it was,

I find it kind of stupid how 'half full' vs 'half empty' is framed as an optimist/pessimist thing. If it starts full and gets halfway drained, it's half empty. If it starts empty and gets halfway filled, it's half full. If you don't know the starting state it's both simultaneously.

There's wholesome ships and there's toxic ships, but I'd like to coin 'sodium chloride ships', where the individuals involved are both horrible and dangerous people, but somehow being together renders them surprisingly well-adjusted (if a little salty).
