Things that happened in the Official Transformers RPG's lore 2: Crossover Boogaloo

Since I've got both the crossover and BW books, and even finished them, and also the last post blew up for no reason, it's time for a sequel with some revisions.

Beast Wars book is more-or-less straightforward add-on for beast modes, Dinobots, and the crossover book is also a straightforward module focused on gameplay with the notable exception of the fact that Pretenders are here for some reason. Well, to the points!

Things that are kinda-sorta canon: Earthspark (Nightshade is an extant person), RID15 (Alchemor crash is an event, Simacore is a person), Animated (Sari also exists), ROTF (same with Alice) and Go-Bots (Zod is a Titan).

RPG lore treats Dark Energon and Angolmois as interchangeable, and therefore refers to all Angolmois items from Japanese Beast Wars as Dark Energon. This is odd, as the book later directly references the manga which established quite firmly that Angolmois is a separate thing.

Mindwipe is invited to scientific conferences.

Sky-Byte is a Maximal, or at least formally listed among them.

Thunderhowl is once again Captain America, hates swarming enemies, and he is either speaks to Onyx Prime in his diary, or Leo Prime (Lio Convoy), mentioned in the rulebook before, is a proper formal Prime who leads the Maximals.

No mention is made of Rattrap's Decepticon allegiance from the past books, but he is apparently a spy by speciality.

Botanica is a triffid.

Paddles, the dinobot, uses they/them pronouns. It's unclear if it's deliberate or not.

The notable odd Threat Level: Optimus Primal the average starship captain by himself is 22, which is more than Starscream's 21. Dinobot is 7, basic BW Megatron is 10, Botanica is 12. Abominus is 15, less then the previously the most weak combiner Ruination's 16, making Abominus a very lame combiner. But the crown is taken by basic Quickstrike, with 1. Yes, 1.

Everyone still have languages listed, and Cybertronix exist as apparently another Cybertronian language, but the only people who know it are the Vehicon generals, Silverbolt and Botanica. But this is not the most notable language-related thing, as Waspinator and Terrorsaur both know English for some reason.

Cube, apparently, is one of Cybertron's greatest exports, and there are alien adaptations of the sport around (presumably, for people who cannot become a car at command).

Decepticons are a legitimate monarchy, and the title of Emperor Of Destruction is a genuine title, because Duke Of Destruction is a Genuine Noble Title

It's more of an observable gameplay oddity, but "EMT Crash Course" perk is universal for humans and Cybertronians. It affects specifically organic medicine, Cybertronians are healed by mechanical aptitude, so you can trust (some) giant robots with your first aid kit!

The BW rulebook has a passing preoccupation with alternate realities - and Uprising even gets it's owl blurb - and therefore has a character sheet for a Intelligent Scientist Grimlock, among others.

Maximals tend to choose for their altmode mammals, birds and fish.

And now, the answers to a couple of questions, because I saw the tags, and some corrections.

@nanzyn & @shadowboxmind : Yeah, the threat level sometimes seem completely random (Stunticons look really lowballed). I think I'll write down all the tables together later for this bizarre power scale.

@theropodtheroblogs : No, Jazz is still also the head of Spec Ops. Prowl is a military strategist, and just a guy now, I guess.

@libermachinae : The original wording for the local Prowlastator seem to imply Prowl kind of happened upon Devastator? The exact words are "when needed" and "been able", so jury's out. He is apparently not a part of Devastator anymore at the time Termagax's lecture, which happens at Autobot City after the local analogue of Headmasters saga and may or may not bear relation to the local counterpart of Combiner Wars.

Now, the corrections: points 4 and 9 from the main post aren't exactly true. The who-is-who list features Alpha Trion, and while some people like Bulkhead are specifically are the Ark crewmember, there's also a mention of "Arcee's Resistance", but not what is it or where it's located, so do what you want. And Tracks while isn't strictly speaking a triple-changer, he is randomly mentioned in such a manner it could be inferred so (and this is his only mention in-text). Technically, the same is the case with Botanica's triffidness here - she has apparently interchangeable stats with Flytrap, whose most notable trait is that he's a triffid. I apologize for any confusion caused.

I really appreciate the PTSD representation of Kabru Dungeon Meshi because very often traumatized characters end up leaning heavily into the "flight" portion of "fight or flight" but the reality is, many of us get pissed off when we're scared, or have the urge to hit back when we're triggered. It's easy to understand why: a scared person is easy to empathize with. An angry person--a violent person--is less so.

I have PTSD and it's taken a long time for me to get comfortable with the anger that wells up when I'm afraid. Like Kabru, when I get triggered, there's an immediate wash of, I'm going to fucking kill them.

Like Kabru, I never act on this impulse. It's just there in my brain, trying to take control, so it can protect me.

When Kabru is triggered and thinks, desperately, Maybe I should kill him! in order to avoid eating monsters, the scene is played for laughs. But under the inherent comedy of the moment (which I can recognize even if I can't make myself laugh along) is the reality that Kabru is deeply traumatized and is trying to manage his emotions so he doesn't endanger his relationships. For Kabru, a character built to maneuver with ease around the social interactions of humanoids (using the DnD term here), his past is not just a justification for his desire to close the dungeon; it's not just a way to create tension with Laios; it's not just an avenue for him to connect with the Canaries. Kabru's past and his lack of coping with it actively sabotages his relationships and even puts him at renewed risk, just like real PTSD! And I just think that's neat! sob.

when I was buying my gambeson, I decided to check out the deal of the day section and found one that was my perfect size for much cheaper

I initially thought it was going to be more muted colors and I could just sorta subtly be supporting my local basketball team's colors. When it shipped I realized it was very bright blue and yellow. so now I'm very boldly supporting my local basketball team. Go golden state warriors!!

the added patch turned out to not to be the Warriors's logo, a dragon, another hema place, or anything else I expected to be. it turned out to be a name tag. a name tag that says JEREMY on it. my name is not Jeremy. the people at my club know this. so for me, someone not named Jeremy, who has never in their life supported a basketball team before, to show up in a bright blue and yellow gambeson emboldened with the name JEREMY on it, was a sight. Jeremy has now become his own identity that I simply use on occasion. I would say he has since become a bit of an icon in our group.

in HEMA (aka historical european fencing), much of the sport is done with fencing masks on, so identifying your clubmates during sparring or tourneys is just based on gear. you know, what color their jacket and pants are, what patches they have on it, how is their mask painted. If someone borrows someone else's jacket it's legitimately jarring, like having someone with an entirely different body type and way of moving stealing your friend's face.

Once i read about historical fishermen in the north sea and how they each had a specific hat pattern that their buddies would use to identity them while they were bundled up. It was so much part of their identity that they were often buried wearing those hats. The gear is like your name, a visual identifier of YOU when you do not have a face.

anyway, back when I was buying gear i got my pants in ELECTRIC blue. I figured i was gonna get a black or grey jacket. but HEMA gear is kind of expensive because it's all custom- or handmade, so instead of spending $400 on a new jacket I picked up one secondhand for like 20. Except the only jacket that fit me was bright, SCARLET red. And I already had my expensive, new, custom, BLUE pants. I look like a damn rocket pop or like, a mixed Icee. I was like, shit! I should switch my jacket before i become the rocket pop guy!!!

Long story short, not only am I now the rocket pop guy, the color scheme has bled into my entire wardrobe. Every-fucking-thing I own is red and blue. I look like a french revolutionary. I'm trying to puzzle out what I like and don't like about Tumblr's interface. 🤔 As much as I enjoy what it is, there are certain itches it doesn't scratch.

What I Like About Tumblr's Functionality:

- Blocking is excellent and encouraged and easy

- Moves fast

- Refreshing the dash is a satisfying wave of new posts that were made as I was reading everything else

- Get to sneak and snoop around the tags and comments on people's posts

- Get to start completely new chains of conversation by picking up from a particular part of the reblog chain

- Get to preserve the original message by reblogging it for posterity

- Melting pot of all of my interests on a single dash

- Filtering lets me keep my mutuals' interests from overwhelming me 😝

- I like that I'm interacting with people I've actively chosen to follow, because it puts a virtual face to a name rather than having me wander faceless crowds of users

- Blocking someone instantly gets that current post off my dash, too

- Can sorta prune back to certain parts of a chain to cut out parts that I don't like

- I like the video player 🤷🏽‍♀️

- I like getting an activity feed that shows me when someone replies to me, so I can reply to them too

What I Don't Like About Tumblr's Functionality:

- Blocking someone doesn't keep every single mention of them out of my sight. If someone reblogs them, or from them, I see their name again.

- Doesn't encourage long-form reading into a single topic (kinda why I want to bring forums back)

- Some folks can pick up from a particular part of the reblog chain and run wild with it, even if there are corrections made later

- Can't correct an old post that someone else has reblogged (I wouldn't mind a way to have a "This post has been changed since it was part of this chain" setting that I could flip on, which would that let you go to that particular post and see the new version of it)

- If someone doesn't tag something, I can't filter it (I'd love a way to suggest tags for OP, so the community can collectively tag it for filtering purposes thereafter)

- Can't hide a post I hate without blocking the OP :/

- Can't block an OP if the account was already deactivated :/

- Can't prune back to certain parts of a reblog chain if the part that I want to prune back to has its account deactivated

- Video player and galleries are on a fuckin' hair trigger of swiping down to the next 'related' video that I did not want to see, which restarts me at the beginning of the video or gallery

- Video player sucks at pausing

3 - Tsukihi Araragi. I made a sorta short post about her a few days ago that goes over a lot that I like about her, but to sum it up here...she's just such a fun character to see on screen with all of her varied designs with each arc. It makes for great visuals, and a good indicator of what point in time an arc takes place in when the series gets funny with it's chronology! Her straightforwardness as a character is such a huge strength that helps her stand out too, given how many layers you typically have to observe and peel back for other characters in this series. And her bluntness in conversation serves an amazing double purpose as both a tool for comedy, and for pushing forward other characters around her like Koyomi and Nadeko.

2 - Shinobu Oshino. It was actually really hard to decide this one, if only because there's SO many characters that I love to death. But I think Shinobu fits this spot perfectly. I really wasn't all that impressed with her in Bakemonogatari in the sense that like. I KNEW she was popular but didn't see why watching the series back as a teen. Also her hat was stupid and i'm glad she stopped wearing it. But unlike when I was a teen, Kizumonogatari was out, and my group decided to watch in Book Order...and then it clicked Oh. I see why Shinobu is so popular now. It made me understand just how big of a deal her choosing to speak again in Nisemonogatari was. And with Meme departing from the story, I think having her take his place as the Apparition Encyclopedia was a GREAT decision, not only because of her physical bond to Koyomi allowing her to appear whenever, it also gives us her AMAZING dynamic with him too. I genuinely love what a like....Scooby Doo problem solving duo they've become by the point of the story i'm at now. And as Onimonogatari taught me, there's STILL so much more of her to learn about. Also her laugh is cute. Ka-ka-ka!

1 - Tsubasa Hanekawa. Given my current icon, banner and...I dunno, HALF of my monogatari reblog tag, is this a surprise? I wanna write a whole entire post dedicated to her someday once I finish the whole series and read the novel versions too, but Hanekawa is just...okay, to try and keep it short. She's easily one of the most dynamic characters in the entire cast. As soon as Bake episode 1 starts, you already know that her and Koyomi have a history together, we know something was up with her and the story just, teases it all through Bake until it comes to a head in Tsubasa Cat. Kizu pulls the camera back to see how her friendship with and love for Koyomi began (and they're SO fun and sweet becoming friends with each other the whole arc), Nise shows that she's...SAYING she's changed, even though we know she really hasn't, before NekoBlack helps us establish the Full Picture of who Hanekawa is, and finally showing her FINALLY learning and growing for REAL in NekoWhite. I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't mention Black Hanekawa as well, for being a hilarious charatcter in her own right, and adding in a special degree of personal relatability to me personally in how i've experienced things in my life. She's just...I have so much more to say but she's just REALLY special to me is all.

And i'd like to give special mentions to Kaiki Deishuu and Sengoku Nadeko. I have no doubt that Nadeko is gonna be a top fiver by the end, but I wanna see the Conclusion of her main arc since Otorimonogatari is really only the beginning of it. And Kaiki is just a really fun character to think on with his faker philosophy, and he's a delight whenever he shows up just doing mundane things like eating donuts or being a weird uncle for Kanbaru.

As for my favorite OPs, this should go quicker i'd say...

3 - Platinum Disco. It's...It's Platinum Disco. It and Renai Ciruclation are like THE Monogatari songs right? At least they were when I was a teen. It's peppy, it's upbeat, it's got some fun clashing lyrics, the visuals are so iconic that the series itself memed on it, it's...it's Platinum Disco. You know?

2 - Mousou Express. For a song that I heard for the first time...lemme check...FIVE days ago? It shot up insanely high on my list. I feel kinda bad mentioning Renai Circulation twice in a row without it actually being one of the answers, but the way that Mousou Express just...flips Renai Circulation on it's head, both in the lyrics being far more openly possessive and obsessive than the cutesywootsie lyrics of the original, and the visuals quite literally being made up mostly in part of Renai's visuals in reverse...it sets up the turn Naedko's character is going to be taking AMAZINGLY, even before her spiral fully begins partway through the arc (from Our PoV anyway). Kanahana's singing is also just...top notch.

1 - Chocolate Insomnia. Given my current icon, banner, half of my monogatari reblog tag and...my answer above, is this much of a surprise? Much in the same way that Mousou Express is an amazing indicator of the direction Naedko's character would be going, Chocolate Insomnia is SUCH an amazing indicator of not only where Hanekawa will being going in the arc, but an amazing look back on how far she's COME since the beginning of the story. Opening with a heartfelt apology, before literally singing about the realizations she's come to by this point in the story, set to a FAR more openly hopeful and cheerful sounding song compared to her other two openings it's...it's just a masterpiece of a song. I love it so much.

And special mentions to Marshmallow Justice just being a really fun opening with REALLY good vocals from Eri Kitamura. And to White Lies for just being one of the most GORGEOUS openings visually. Absolute treat for the eyes to go with the more subdued song and vocals.

hiii anon!! sure thing. i mean, this topic of infantilsation of asian men is quite a complex one bc at surface level, its sorta like, "well what's the big deal in a white person calling a man of colour a baby and treating him like one?" but. there is. and its not a new phenomena either. and being asian myself, i sometimes just .. feel so sorry for asian men when it comes to this.

op's post was, i'm guessing, relating to asian male actors in the cdrama industry. i'd extend that out to male kpop idols too, bc i've seen a Tonne of that happen with them too. this idea of "he's a Baby" and "he can Do No Wrong" and "i Need to protect him!!". like. i understand if that's how a white person may feel towards asian male characters in tv and film, i get that. but towards asian men irl? no, there's really no need for that. they're a grown male adult, they know what they're doing. and it does not help that these grown asian men have to "act cute" and "do aegyo" for fanservice purposes (and you gotta understand that is Very Specific to asian people as a whole tbh), which only further pushes infantilising them/us as a whole, even when they themselves do not wanna do that. but the minute a grown adult asian man wants to be sexy and act his age, its ... too scandalous. biggest example? wonho.

and that then further reiterates my point i made in the tags: that the masses of white people are attracted and drawn to A Certain Type of asian men. they can't be too built and muscular and they can't be too brown or dark skinned and they're iffy about facial hair on them. they have to look "squeaky clean" and "petite" with just enough muscle. and then when these asian men do things that are gnc, which - fyi, has existed in the asian culture for centuries and centuries - white people Lose It. if a skinny looking, lighter skinned asian man decides to wear make up and jewelry and paint their nails and dress in a more feminine/gnc manner, then white people lose it and find that sexy and go on about Genvy. but if a broader, muscular asian man that's darker skinned and has facial hair decides to do that, its unacceptable bc it doesn't Look Right on them. do you see what i mean? they're both asian, so why does it Look Right on one but not the other?

and this isnt even all of it. but yeah, i hope it makes things a little more clearer!

My two cents on the OUAT s7 thing: Lady Tremaine was the old fairy tale version of Rapunzel at the most. Closest we ever got to a Tangledesque Rapunzel that I saw was Alice Jones, daughter of a Hook and Gothel and her sorta Flynn Rider was Robin, daughter of Zelena and Robin Hood, and it was more in line with their old way of doing things, that sort of tilt your head and you'll see a connection. I couldn't even connect Tremaine to Tangled if I tried.

Yeah, I know. And I don't really care. XD OUAT effed itself over for me when it decided that Zelena didn't need to stay dead and to drag a real-world person (Walt Disney) through their shenanigans by naming him as the first Author. Just like... what the actual-- I was so done. Done. I stopped caring about the show in that instant. It was convoluted enough as it was, but bringing a character who I already considered really OP and unlikable back from the dead to continue being bitchy to people just trying to get their convoluted lives in order was too much.

A few years back, when I saw OUAT flooding the Tangled-related tags, I just rolled my eyes.
